De fleste opfatter spildevand som et ildelugtende og værdiløst affaldsstof. Men hvert toiletbesøg kan faktisk afsløre masse informationer om vores vaner, hvis man analyserer vores afføring nøje.
Institut for Retsmedicin har siden 2024 benyttet en metode, der gør det muligt ud fra prøver af få milliliter spildevand at afgøre, hvilke rusmidler borgerne i Aarhus, København, Esbjerg, Odense, Aalborg og Næstved indtager. Analyserne anslår også, hvor stort det samlede forbrug er, og her kommer kokain ind på en førsteplads blandt de centralstimulerende rusmidler. København er den by, hvor borgerne - i gennemsnit - oftest sniffer en bane kokain eller sluger en MDMA-pille. Til gengæld ligger hovedstaden i bund, når det handler om indtagelse af opioider. Her er de mindre byer, Esbjerg og Næstved, i front.
