(00:45):
Get ready to be inspired andempowered.
In our previous episode, weexplored the concepts of courage
within the classroom anddiscovered ways to empower
students to embrace their owncourage.
In this episode, let's explorethe significance of being
courageous as you pursue yourentrepreneurial dream, while
(01:06):
staying dedicated to your roleas a teacher.
Pursuing entrepreneurship as ateacher is in a walk-in in the
park by any means, but it's ajourney that can unlock your
true potential and bring a senseof purpose and fulfillment.
So let's jump in.
As a teacher, you are alreadyjuggling multiple
responsibilities and tasks on adaily basis, from preparing
(01:30):
lesson plans to gradingassignments, attending meetings
and conferences and managingclassroom dynamics.
Your plate is constantly fullTrust, that I know.
So why would anyone want thestress of starting their own
business on top of all of that?
Well, the answer is simplebecause it's worth it.
(01:50):
Being an entrepreneur allowsyou to follow your passions and
turn them into a tangiblereality, with monetary benefits.
It gives you the freedom tocreate something unique and make
a positive impact in the world, and, as a teacher who is used
to inspiring and empoweringothers, this can be an
(02:10):
incredibly fulfilling experience.
So how do we summon the courageto pursue our entrepreneurial
dreams while balancing thedemands of being a teacher?
First and foremost, it'simportant to understand that
being an entrepreneur and ateacher go hand in hand.
Both roles require passion, dedication and the ability to
(02:33):
adapt to different challenges.
As teachers, we are alreadyequipped with many of the skills
necessary for entrepreneurship,such as communication,
organization, project management, problem solving, even
mediation at this point, especially if you are a teacher
in middle school.
But when it comes to pursuingour own ventures, fear can often
(02:58):
hold us back.
We may worry about taking risksor failing in front of our
students and colleagues.
However, it's important thatcourage is not the absence of
fear, but rather the willingnessto face it head on, and believe
I have had those feelings atsome point throughout my journey
(03:19):
as a teacher with a side hustle.
One key way to some encourage isby setting clear goals for your
entrepreneurial venture.
This will give you directionand motivation as you work
towards creating somethingmeaningful and impactful.
As teachers, we know the powerof setting goals for our
students and can apply that samemindset to our own endeavors.
(03:41):
Additionally, building a strongsupport system is crucial for
any entrepreneurial journey.
This can include fellowteachers who understand the
unique challenges we face asside hustlers, as well as
mentors or coaches who can offerguidance, support and advice,
(04:02):
surrounding ourselves withpositive and supportive
individuals who have started aside hustle have navigated the
ropes of both teaching and sidehustling, become an invaluable
asset of information and support, especially when facing
self-doubt or imposter syndrome.
Another thing being open-mindedand willing to learn new skills
(04:23):
is essential for success as anentrepreneur.
This could include developingskills in marketing and branding
, understanding businessfinancials or learning about the
legal aspects of running acompany.
These were all skills I learnedwhen I started my side hustle
as a virtual assistant socialmedia manager, pinterest manager
(04:44):
podcasso and more.
I've gone through severaliterations of my side hustle
business, and here we are.
By continuously expanding ourknowledge and skillset, we can
position ourselves to besuccessful in the highly
competitive market ofentrepreneurship.
It's important to have a clearvision and purpose when you're
(05:06):
embarking on this venture.
As teachers, we're passionateabout education and making a
positive impact on students'lives.
Keeping this purpose at theforefront of our business
decisions can help guide ustowards creating products and
services that align with ourvalues and goals.
Everything that you use in theclassroom from your talents,
(05:28):
your gifts, your abilities youare taking now to your side
hustle, to your entrepreneurialventure.
On a practical note, entrepreneurship provides an
opportunity for teachers todiversify income streams.
In a world where budget cuts arecommon, pursuing
entrepreneurship can be a way tosupplement income and ensure
(05:49):
financial stability.
The price of living hasincreased everywhere, yet
district budgets barely want toincrease teacher salaries.
I'm facing that myself withinmy own district.
Having income from a sidehustle is the one thing that you
can actually control.
Don't get me wrong.
Entrepreneurship is not justabout starting a business or
(06:10):
making money.
It's a mindset that encouragesindividuals to step out of their
comfort zone, take on newchallenges and think creatively.
This applies to teachers aswell.
Embracing an entrepreneurialspirit can have many benefits
for educators.
So I'm sure you're thinking sohow do I add a side hustle to my
(06:32):
teaching life?
The first step is to identifyyour passions and strengths.
What unique skills or knowledgedo you possess that can be
translated into a side business?
Maybe you're particularlyskilled at creating engaging
lesson plans, or a talentedwordsmith, or have a knack for
(06:53):
organizing or managing events.
These could all be potentialareas to explore.
Next, consider the needs ofyour target audience.
Who are you trying to reachwith your side hustle?
Is it other teachers lookingfor resources?
Is it parents seeking tutoringservices, or a student in need
of additional support?
Is it something online based, like supporting bloggers or
(07:16):
influencers, or even startingyour own podcast or starting
your own blog?
Understanding your audience'spain points and interests can
help guide the direction of yourside business.
Once you have identified yourniche and target audience, it's
time to create a game plan.
This includes setting cleargoals and objectives,
(07:40):
determining a budget and pricingstrategy and establishing a
marketing plan to reach yourtarget audience.
But don't forget about thelegal side of things, depending
on the nature of your sidebusiness, you may need to
register with your localgovernment or obtain necessary
licenses or permits.
It's always better to do yourresearch and ensure that you are
(08:03):
operating legally to avoid anypotential issues down the line.
Another important aspect isnetworking.
It is key when it comes tostarting a successful side
hustle.
Understanding how to reach outto potential clients and other
professionals in related fieldsfor support and collaborations
(08:23):
is instrumental.
Building a strong network cannot only provide valuable
resources and advice, but alsospread the word about your
services.
And finally, don't be afraid tostart small.
You may have big dreams foryour side business, but it's
important to start withmanageable goals and slowly grow
(08:45):
from there.
This will not only help youdevelop a solid foundation for
your business, but also allowsyou to balance it with your
current teaching job and all ofits demands.
Remember, starting a sidehustle while teaching can be a
challenging but rewardingjourney.
With determination, strategicplanning and a strong support
(09:06):
system, you can turn yourpassion into profit while making
a positive impact.
So why wait?
Start brainstorming your ideasand take that first step towards
building your own successfulside hustle.
Today, I want to leave you withthis final thought Courage.
Lets us step out of our comfortzones, take on new challenges
(09:29):
and think creatively.
It's about acknowledging fearsand doubts, but not letting them
hold you back from pursuingyour dreams.

bravery, the ability to takerisks and embrace failures as a
learning opportunity.
