This week on The Teachable Soul, Sarah Wong joins me to discuss Career Coaching and the job search during the pandemic lockdowns, Anxiety, and DNA.

Sarah Wong was adopted from birth. As she matured, she struggled dealing with many unanswered questions around her personal identity. In 2019, after starting therapy she realized that her anxiety mainly rooted back to her identity crisis, After she finally reached out to her biological family, she unlocked a part of herself she never knew existed. Through deeply understanding the importance of mental health and self-empowerment, she started Metamorphosis101 in order to help job seekers land dream jobs. Sarah’s unique approach comes from her 11-factor health model, which she integrates with mindful decision making and compassionate accountability. Sarah aims to build a more compassionate and mindful workforce and greater opportunity for those who experience mental health problems.

Kat Daniels (00:22):
Hello again and welcome back my fellow teachable
currently using to listen today.
Also, feel free to follow alongon my website, you can do that

(00:53):
at the teachable soul.com Iadopted from birth and struggled
with understanding her identityothers find their own path and

(01:30):
started metamorphosis. One on

Sarah Wong (01:42):
Hello, thank you so much for having me.

Kat Daniels (01:45):
Thank you for coming on today. I know that
And just everything about that?

Sarah Wong (02:03):
Yeah, absolutely. So metamorphosis. 101 is sort of

(02:25):
country that we saw. And I wasworking at a nonprofit in a job

(02:48):
and doing my own thing that hadsort of always been, what my
creation, that sort of thing.
And then a month later, I sawof putting the pieces together

(03:27):
looking at the situation of thehired a couple coaches of my
own. And one of them, she reallymy work, but about me as a human

(04:05):
right, like where, wherejust sort of came to me of my
own metamorphosis and my ownteach people sort of the basics

(04:44):
of how to transform their life,

Unknown (05:01):
Yeah,

Kat Daniels (05:02):
that sounds amazing. That's really
it or not, but if you don't,that's okay. I Oh, yeah,

Sarah Wong (05:23):
I do actually. It's called swords to plowshares.
It was the best job that I everworked in my life. I totally

(05:49):
where I probably should havestayed. But, of course, at that
what I thought I needed, or whatthe society around me was sort

(06:25):
months, and I got fired, actually. And ever since then,

Kat Daniels (06:38):
So when so what is that? What year was all of that?

Sarah Wong (06:42):
Yeah, so I left swords. Gosh, it was early in

(07:07):
my bets in the wrong way. And Ilasted there till about may of

(07:28):
to do, you know, so it was sortof the first time in my life

(07:50):
I was really just scrambling totry to put the pieces back

(08:12):
finally, just having to comecome back into myself and really

Kat Daniels (08:28):
I have so many guests, and not tell you how

Sarah Wong (08:43):
Wow.

Kat Daniels (08:44):
Yeah, the end of 2019 and beginning of 2020 held
kind of focus more on yourdecisions and actually, like,

Sarah Wong (09:09):
Yeah. So you did mention briefly that I was
curiosities about, you know, different qualities and quirks

(09:43):
curiosity was, it was it wasn'tenough to really impede
my life in many ways. But theolder that I grew, the more and

(10:09):
paranoid and quite concerned, you know about my true origins
really, it really affected myability to sort of function. And

(10:48):
know, tracing his own personalancestry and all of that, and I
take this step forward, to findthem when to talk to them. So

(11:25):
insane curiosity to find out whoshe was and where she comes

(11:49):
about where we come from. So infinding her, not only did I sort
the intro, sort of opening upthis whole new side of myself

(12:27):
just that need to find out whereI come from, and who my who my

(12:48):
really bad identity crisis. AndI'm just so glad that I'm, I'm

Kat Daniels (12:59):
So what were some of the questions that you were
family have a history ofillness?

Sarah Wong (13:16):
That was something that I had no idea about? You
you know, who is also adopted?
She doesn't have that the sameespecially as I grew older, it

(13:51):
became sort of concerning and

Kat Daniels (14:02):
Yeah. I mean, I have I'm not adopted, but I have
her mom all had their stuff. Andmy aunt on my dad's side all had

(14:43):
in the clear or not. But like,if I were to ever go into
definitely ask as well. So whereare Where are your, your

Sarah Wong (15:08):
So I was actually born in South Lake Tahoe. And I
love with the area. And she'sbeen there ever since. So she's

Kat Daniels (15:40):
So you, so you, was it like, immediate after you met

Sarah Wong (15:55):
the moment that I spoke with them, I can't tell
I said, I've always been like abit of a spiritual person. But

(16:21):
previous question. That wasanother question that came up
time talking to my grandfather,as well, for the first time was

(16:56):
to was so cool, because it wasjust the first time that I had
all my issues. But it certainlywas the starting point of my

(17:38):
over this last year. And I justwant to point out the fact
family. But I just do thinkthat, that my experience for

(18:11):
knew it was going to help me,but I had no idea just how much

(18:33):
understand before. And it's beenjust really incredible and

Kat Daniels (18:54):
But yeah, when you're, I know, many, many
it. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah. AndI think I think for your

(19:33):
just I have one of those and sodoes my brother He recently got

(19:54):
hers to see if our daughtercould potentially have it
that that absolutely, like thing that's bothering her
now, because it is a thing. And

Sarah Wong (20:19):
I'm a huge, huge advocate for the whole DNA
ancestors. And just simply thatexperience for me again,

(20:54):
experience that has been. Andmaybe not everybody has that
it's a really cool sort oflearning lesson. And it really

(21:24):
yes, we'reliving in this extremely crazy
and challenging time right now.

(21:44):
today, even Despite living in apandemic, living with the
in this crazy year. Yeah.

Kat Daniels (22:04):
Well, and to for me, I mean, you mentioned kind

Sarah Wong (22:18):
Absolutely.

Kat Daniels (22:19):
Yeah. And which gives me I don't know, it also
So I also read somewhere whereyou were, it said that you had

Sarah Wong (22:50):
I guess, yeah. So I've always been a very
anxious person, you know, your baseline is anxious. Like
when most people baseline atan eight year old, like, Oh, my

(23:28):
God, I don't know how to addressfeeling, you know, like I have
to really nurture my injury. Andcame to a head again, around, I

(24:02):
would say it started to mytherapy is my number one

(24:22):
priority. Once it my health carewhen I got my most basically the
last job that I was that I lostthat's Why might it says my

(24:59):
diagnosis was January of 2019.
such an anxious person. I mean,I was I was anxious about just

(25:31):
It's something that you know, ifyou, if you do the right things,
you have a lot of uncertainty, the symptoms only get worse, at

(26:04):
on two years now. And I just, Ijust have a whole different way

Kat Daniels (26:19):
I bet. So you talk a little bit about how your

Sarah Wong (26:31):
Oh, my gosh, so finding my spirituality, I guess
this bench. And my heart ratewas like, you know, it was out

(27:06):
because I had had heart issues.
And heart issues are sort of itdidn't really want to, I forced
him to go on this hike with me,think about anything for just

(27:41):
one second. And I was like, who, learn meditation and breathing
techniques in it, I used them tomore seriously. And I started

(28:13):
doing like virtual meditationmy ancestors, but my ancestors
were very spiritual people, likeand just knowing that this was a

(28:47):
really important thing for me,pathway, I guess, that I've

(29:10):
really gained mostly throughprayer journal. I have a
gratitude journal, I do dailyinto my life, which was

(29:41):
something as well, I mean,

Kat Daniels (29:58):
Yeah, same stuff.
What is a? You said energyYes. What's that?

Sarah Wong (30:04):
So I do, I'm like, gosh, this is going a little a
little spiritual but yeah, like

Kat Daniels (30:30):
Is this related to like sound healing? I've heard

Sarah Wong (30:33):
Yes, yes. It's essentially sound healing. Yeah.

Kat Daniels (30:36):
Yeah, I got you.
Okay. Yeah, I've heard aboutlike, being able to go to sleep
quickly.

Sarah Wong (30:54):
Mm hmm.

Kat Daniels (30:54):
That has helped me immensely over the past few

Sarah Wong (30:58):
So another, this is not necessarily energy healing.
your mouth, and the air goingout. You know, you're you're

(31:38):
sort of helps to dissolve awayany of those thoughts. Like if
on a consistent daily basis hasreally helped alleviate not only

Kat Daniels (32:07):
Yeah. anytime anybody tells me that they're

Sarah Wong (32:21):
Exactly, exactly.
Just taking a few seconds everynot really knowing what to
believe in before. And now I

Kat Daniels (32:52):
Yeah, no.
Yeah, that's Yeah, that'sspirituality has been something
the way. You're a spiritualbeing. And it smacks you upside

Sarah Wong (33:15):
I think it's hard.
I mean, I think in the Westernworld, especially, and I was
to do it. Yeah. Right. If ever, like, there has never been a

Kat Daniels (33:39):
Yeah. Yeah.
For sure. And it's so funny tome to how like 2019 because I,

Sarah Wong (34:00):
it was like November or so of 2019 last year that I

Kat Daniels (34:07):
Yeah, the the, the cosmos must have aligned

Sarah Wong (34:14):
Yeah, yeah, absolutely. It's just
been, that's been one thing thatforced to sort of slow down and
reassess and really think hardergoing for with my clients is to

(34:50):
help people find whatever it isother really important parts of
our existence, you know?

Kat Daniels (35:11):
Oh, yeah, absolutely. So when you work

Sarah Wong (35:21):
I, I was previously certified as a resume writer. So
needs. So I sort of can reallyassess based on a case by case

(35:57):
also that there's such a diversegroup of people, you know, so I
that's really where I would saymy skill is the best as a career

(36:28):
people through and sort of makeit through the the mental
won't anticipate, I like to helpfolks sort of understand those

Kat Daniels (36:47):
Yeah, the transitions of any job whether

Sarah Wong (37:03):
Yeah, and I know, so many people this year, I imagine
people really figure that thatpathway out,

Kat Daniels (37:24):
right? Yeah, absolutely. And then they have

Sarah Wong (37:38):
yeah, it really is.
And I just have a bleeding heartbeen building up. Yeah, that's
awesome.

Kat Daniels (37:58):
Wow, that's phenomenal. Thank you so much
you learn that through likegoing through the whole process

Sarah Wong (38:26):
I think back to a year ago, like what you're
living my life was just throughthis, I don't have enough money,

(39:04):
perspective, knowing that thereis hope out there there is I am
have enough you are capable, youare worthy, you are good enough,

(39:40):
failing, I was so afraid ofrejection, I was so afraid of
more that I can't that I amcapable that I that living in In

Kat Daniels (40:05):
