Speaker 1 (00:26):

(00:48):
first up on the list here isMiss Ellie, and right after the
next break, miss Ellie's goingto talk about what she's
passionate about on our StudentVoices podcast today.
So thanks for tuning in andwe'll catch you on the flip side
.
On the flip side, hey, we areback, mr Newton, here, episode
(01:11):
number five on Teacher Talk, student Voices, and our first
student, awesome young lady, miss Ellie, and Miss Ellie's
going to talk about what she'spassionate about.
So sit back, relax and let'slisten to Miss Ellie talk about
what she loves.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Hello everyone,
welcome to A Day in the Life of
an Athlete.
I'm Ellie Lowe, I'm 11 yearsold and I play soccer.
I'll be talking about thesoccer players, the sport itself
and the pay between women andmen.
First of all, I'd like to sayI'm very grateful and I want to
give a special shout out to thepeople who listen to my podcast.
First, I'll be talking aboutthe soccer players.
(01:48):
My first player I'd like totalk about is Alex Morgan.
You might have heard of her.
She's currently on Wave FC andis a forward.
A forward is a person on thefield that attacks the most and
is the highest person next tothe other opponent's goal.
The second player I'd like totalk about is Leonor Mercer.
He's currently on Inter Miamiand plays right wing and forward
.
Like Alex Morgan, he is veryflashy and likes to do lots of
(02:11):
skills in the game because helikes to show what he has
learned in practice.
My final player I'd like toshout out is to Savannah
McCroskey.
She is a forward and loves toscore goals, so she can help her
team win the game, so they canmaybe have a chance of coming in
first place.
Secondly, I'd like to talk aboutthe sport itself.
Soccer is a very unique sportbecause it involves your feet,
(02:34):
your head, your chest, yourthighs, etc.
Soccer, I feel, is very fun towatch and also play.
Soccer has rules, regulationsand style of play that is unlike
any other sport, so it isfunner to watch because it is
different.
Soccer goes way back to ancientGreece and Rome.
I feel this is cool because I'mGreek.
Finally, I'd like to talk aboutthe pay in soccer between women
(02:58):
and men.
In the soccer world, men getpaid more than women.
So in soccer the average wagefor a woman is between $75,000
and between $200,000.
Well, for men it's in the$400,000.
But the gap is getting closer,so that women will get paid as
much as men in soccer.
(03:18):
In my opinion, the way womenare getting paid more is that by
maybe 2042, things should beright and women and men should
get paid the same.
Today I talked about players, the sport itself and the pay
between women and men Again.
Speaker 1 (03:36):
I'm Ellie Lowe.
I'm a soccer player.
Speaker 2 (03:38):
Thanks for listening.
See you next time.
I'm so glad I could do this foryou all.
And bye.
Speaker 1 (03:46):
Wasn't she amazing,
holy cow.
We learned a lot about soccer, and I know a few years from now,
miss Ellie will be doing someawesome things in soccer.
So after next break, we'll haveanother awesome student in my
class sharing their voice onsomething that they're
passionate about.
We'll see in a bit.
Hey friends, it is Mr Newton.

They've done a great job and sotake it away, gentlemen.
Speaker 3 (04:36):
What's up sports fans
, I'm Jackson, I'm Zion and I'm
Grant.
Today we will be talking aboutthis week's games highlights.
So first we're going to go intobaseball.
Jackson, you want to start usoff?
Sure, I will be talking aboutthe game's highlights I had this
weekend.
(04:57):
The game that I had this weekfor rec was against the Astros,
I know right.
Anyway, we were at home, so webat.
Second, we let one of ourcatchers pitch, so the Astros
scored a couple of runs.
But when we went up to bat werallied up to six runs, but when
we got to the bottom of thelineup they all struck out.
When I went to shortstop with arunner on second, I covered.
(05:20):
Second, my friend Benny, whowas pitching, tried to go for a
pickoff.
I have getting the tag.
Fast forward to the fourthinning and a bunch of hard hits
came to shortstop and third, ona hard hit went up the middle
bounce and I got the play.
I got the ball and made theplay at first.
Fast forward to the bottom ofthe sixth inning.
(05:41):
I go up to bat with two outs, two sets go by and I get hit in
the elbow.
It stung really bad.
I go first, still second, stillthird and come in at fourth.
We sadly lost the game.
(06:04):
Zion, we'll be talking now.
Game goes.
Usually I head to my game andplay, I play center attacking,
mid in my games and, um, uh, Iscore now and then, but, um, so
I had a quote.
So one game there was a cornerkick.
Uh, I slid down on the ground,my foot managed to hit and I got
, and I scored a goal like thatand I have two favorite clubs,
(06:25):
it's the la galaxy and realmadrid.
Um, if there's one thing I haveto say for everyone, it'd just
be just have fun and just playthe game.
And next up we're going to goto Grant to talk about American
football.
So, to end our podcast today I'mgoing to talk about a game I
had recently.
I'm an 11-year-old fifth-gradefootball player for the Jets in
(06:46):
a single league.
I was playing the Colts and itwas a 0-0 ball game.
All the way up to right beforehalftime I was playing safety
and I let a wide receiver beatme deep and score a touchdown.
As safety I should have beenback deep, but I made a mistake.
We had been down 6-0 in thefourth quarter and the opposing
QB threw it deep and I caught itand I juked the QB and made it
(07:09):
all the way back to the house.
I was so thrilled and I wasreally glad that I did that and
because of that we were able towin the game.
Speaker 1 (07:24):
Remember, have fun
and this has been the Sword Zone
.
Wasn't that awesome?
That was so awesome, ladies andgentlemen.
So we're going to end episodenumber six, Student Voices, with
the gentlemen.
So well done.
We'll see you on episode numberseven.
Thanks.
