Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello, all of my wonderful friends out there.
Welcome back to TeachingMastery Academy.
I'm your host, francesca, andtoday we're going to be looking
at one of the most commonstruggles I hear from course
creators.
It's figuring out how to turnall your incredible expertise
into a single, focused courseidea.
Easier said than done.

(00:21):
Does this sound familiar to you?
You've got years of experience, loads of knowledge and a deep
passion for what you do, butwhen it comes to narrowing all
that down into one single courseidea, you feel totally stuck.
Maybe your brain is buzzingwith 15 or even 20 different

(00:41):
ideas, or maybe you're worriedabout picking the wrong idea,
one that doesn't sell orresonate with your audience.
Either way, you're not alone,my friend, but here's the truth
a course that tries to do toomuch ends up doing nothing at
all.
So I really wanted to look atthis in depth today.
So by the end of this episode, you will have a step-by-step

(01:04):
framework to narrow down yourideas, to validate the one
that's most likely to sell andthen finally define a
transformation that resonatesdeeply with your audience.
So grab your notebook, pouryourself a coffee or a tea no
judgment and let's turn thatoverwhelming expertise into a
crystal clear course ideaoverwhelming expertise into a

(01:27):
crystal clear course idea.
You've got this and I'm here toguide you every step of the way
.
So let's start by addressing theelephant in the room.
Why is it so hard to narrowdown a course idea when you have
so much experience?
Here's the thing the more youknow, the harder it can be to
focus, and I like to call thisthe curse of expertise.
You've spent years masteringyour craft, solving problems and

(01:50):
achieving results, but nowyou're so far along in your
journey that it's hard toremember what it felt like to be
a beginner, and I suppose, as ateacher, you learn to do this
naturally anyway.
But if you've never taughtbefore, or if you are very
experienced in your niche butyou've never had to explain it

(02:13):
to a way to somebody that'snever encountered your knowledge
before, then it can be hard.
You can forget an oversight andsometimes the most small
details that seem the mostobvious to you are the biggest
breakthroughs to somebody else.
So, going back to the curse ofexpertise, there are three

(02:33):
mistakes that you can make.
You can feel like you need toteach everything because you
want to provide value and you'renot sure where you need to
refine and where you need tonarrow down.
So you end up justover-teaching or just teaching
everything that you know, or youworry that leaving something
out will mean your course isn'tcomplete.
So there is that fear thatyou're not giving value.

(02:54):
And then, finally, youovercomplicate the process,
you're trying to pack too muchinto one offer and it just means
that people switch off, theyget bored, they get confused,
they get overwhelmed.
And the truth is that youraudience doesn't need everything
you know.
They just need one clear, actionable path that solves a

(03:17):
specific problem.
Remember, you have got time inyour hands.
You can create future courseson different parts of your
expertise and knowledge.
You don't have to put it all inone go Now.
The second reason why it's sohard to narrow down a course
idea when you have so muchexpertise is that fear creeps in
, fear of choosing the wrongidea.

(03:39):
And let's talk about fear for aminute.
A lot of course creators getstuck because they're terrified
of picking the wrong idea.
You might be thinking what ifno one buys this course?
Or what if my audience doesn'tresonate with this idea?
Or what if I invest all thistime and energy into the wrong
topic?
But here's what I want you toknow, choosing a course idea

(04:00):
isn't a life or death decision.
It's a process of testing, refining and learning, and the
framework we're about to diveinto will help you validate your
idea before you commit tocreating a full course.
The reason you feel overwhelmedisn't that you have too many
ideas.
It's that you don't have aclear process for narrowing them
down, and when you follow astep-by-step framework, you'll

(04:24):
move from confusion toconfidence and you'll be ready
to take action.
So let's get to the good stuffthe framework.
We've talked a lot about whyoverwhelm happens, so now let's
look at the framework, and thisis the process I recommend to
every course creator who feelsoverwhelmed by their ideas, and
it's broken into four steps.

(04:44):
So step one is to brain dumpyour expertise, get it all out
on paper or get it all out onthe computer or wherever you
record your notes and basicallybrainstorm, and you can.
This is where tools likeChatGPT or some of one of those
other AI tools become apps, become really useful, because
you can put in a whole lot ofconversation prompts about your

(05:07):
interests, your expertise, whatyou're good at, what you're not
good at, what you're interestedin, what you're not interested
in, and they can really help yourefine and develop your next
course idea.
So that's step one is braindump your expertise.
Step two is to identify youraudience's biggest pain points
and and once again you can putthis into chat, gpt or you can

(05:28):
ask one of those ai apps tofeedback some suggested pain
points based on step one.
So you're going to say step one, to recap, was to brain dump
your expertise.
Step two is to identify theanswer's biggest pain points.
What are they?
They struggling with the most?
Step three you need to validateyour idea.
Now this is where you need togo out and test it.

(05:49):
You need to see if people areclicking on your posts on social
media.
You need to enter into chatroom, see if anybody is
interested in what you'retalking about.
So you really need to validateand it's also the part where you
would do a beta test run so youmight launch your product idea

(06:09):
see if you get any feedback onit, see if you've got anybody
that's willing to sign up formaybe a discounted price or some
sort of other additional bonus, some incentive for them to be
part of the beta round.
And then from that you reallywant to hone down into step four
, which is define thetransformation.
So this is the key toeverything.

(06:31):
The transformation is yourpromise, your sales.
That's what you are promisingyour audience that they will
receive or transform into by theend of your course the
transformation promise.
So let's break each step down ina little bit more detail for
you, so you sort of see how thisframework works together.
So step one we talked aboutbrain dumping, your expertise.

(06:54):
So this step is all aboutclearing the mental clutter.
When you've got too many ideasswimming around in your head,
the best thing you can do is getthem out on paper, and here's
how to do it.
So step one is to grab anotebook or a whiteboard or a
digital tool like Notion orTrello, set a timer for 15 to 20
minutes and then write downeverything you know how to teach

(07:14):
, no matter how big or small, and you can do this using an AI
tool as well that we just talkedabout.
So, for example, let's sayyou're a nutrition coach and
your brain dump might includemeal planning for busy
professionals, understandingmacronutrients, breaking sugar
addiction, preparing healthysnacks for kids, strategies for

(07:36):
eating out without derailingyour goals, and notice how, as
you brainstorm, the ideas varyin scope, and that's normal.
Don't worry about organising orprioritising them, yet just
focus on getting them out ofyour head.
And here's a pro tip for you ifyou're struggling to come up
with ideas, think about thequestions people ask you most
often.

(07:56):
What do friends or clients orfollowers come to you for advice
on?
And if you are not able to tapinto that, what are people
talking about the most in thechat rooms and on social media
in your niche?
Are you part of any groups, community groups on social media
?
Are you on threads?
What are some common threadsthat people are talking about?

(08:17):
Really, think about thequestions that people might ask
you or are asking each otherwithin your niche right now.
So that's step one.
Step two is to identify youraudience's biggest pain points.
So now that you've got a listof ideas, it's time to narrow
them down by focusing on whatyour audience really needs.
And here's the truth asuccessful course isn't about

(08:38):
what you teach.
It's about what your audiencewants to learn.
So we need to identify painpoints.
We need to listen to youraudience.
So pay attention to thequestions and the frustrations
they share on social media or inforums or during consultations.
Are there reoccurring themes inthe feedback you get, and we
need to ask directly.
So create a poll or a surveyand ask your audience what's

(09:02):
your biggest challenge when itcomes to your topic or your
niche.
So, for example, if you're afitness coach, you might notice
that your audience often saysthings like I don't have time to
work out, or I don't know whereto start, or I feel overwhelmed
by all the conflicting adviceout there.
These pain points give youvaluable insight into what your
course should focus on, and, instead of creating a broad

(09:24):
fitness course, you might narrowit down to say how to build a
15-minute daily workout routinefor busy professionals,
something like that.
So we're getting specific.
We're getting really, reallyniched down and specific.
Now step three we want tovalidate your idea.
So step three, in the framework, is all about validation.
Validation is the secret saucethat separates successful

(09:47):
courses from flops.
It's the process of making sureyour idea resonates with your
audience before you invest timeand energy into creating.
And I've got three ways thatyou can validate your idea.
So step one the first way is toask your audience.
Use a poll or a survey orInstagram story question to test
multiple ideas.

(10:08):
So, for example, which coursewould you be most interested in
A, b or C.
That's a really simple, fast, easy way that you can start
testing some ideas.
Number two another way you canvalidate it is test with a mini
offer, so you could offer aworkshop or a webinar or a free
resource on your topic to gaugeinterest, to see what the uptake

(10:28):
is like.
And the third way that you canvalidate your idea is to check
the market.
Look at successful courses inyour niche.
What problems are they solving?
Release to media, sales pagesand their managers to see what
wording that they're using, andyou don't want to skip the step.
Step three validate your idea, even if you think your idea is a

(10:49):
winner.
Validation ensures that yourcourse aligns with what your
audience is willing to invest in.
And then, finally, step four weneed to define the
transformation.
And this is where the magichappens.
Once you've chosen your courseidea, you need to define the
transformation that it offers.
You need to ask yourself whereis my audience starting?
Where do they want to go?

(11:10):
What specific outcome will mycourse help them achieve?
So, for example, instead ofsaying this course teaches
Instagram marketing, you couldtry.
By the end of this course, you'll have a fully optimized
Instagram strategy that attractsyour ideal clients and
generates leads on autopilot.
That attracts your idealclients and generates leads on

(11:32):
autopilot Super clear, superspecific, and you have got a
very, very clear transformationas part of your sales line.
So a clear transformation makesyour course feel valuable, feel
actionable and it feels resultsdriven.
Now let's pause for a moment totalk about some common mistakes
that can really derail yourcourse creation journey.

(11:52):
I've got three mistakes thatare super common but we really
need to avoid, and the first oneis trying to cover too much.
Now, a course that tries toteach everything ends up
overwhelming your audience.
We talked about this briefly,so we really want to focus on
solving one clear problem.
It's so tempting to try and putas much into your course as

(12:14):
possible to show value, but inTeaching Ministry Academy, we
really teach you how to take oneclear, specific idea and make
sure that it's a premiumoffering.
You are teaching it in apremium way and that means that
you avoid this temptation tobasically throw everything into
your course and cross yourfingers and hope for the best.

(12:36):
So it's about the quality ofhow you teach this one specific
problem rather than just tryingto throw everything in.
It's quality over quantity.
Now the second problem.
The second common mistake toavoid is skipping the validation
step in this framework.
So you can't assume that youridea will sell without testing

(12:56):
it.
It's a risky move to do it thatway.
You really need to take time tovalidate your concept first.
And when I say time, it doesn'thave to be a long period of
time, it can just be over a week.
You might do an intensiveInstagram story run where every
day you're posting storiesaround the same idea topic and
you are running polls.
You are running questions.
You are making sure thatthey're interactive with your

(13:19):
audience to see what the uptakeis around your idea.
So really make sure that youvalidate your idea.
And the third common mistake isignoring the transformation
that you validate your idea.
And the third common mistake isignoring the transformation.
If your course doesn't promisea specific outcome, your
audience won't see the value.
You must have a transformationpromise in your sales line.
Now I thought I would inspireyou with a real-life story so

(13:43):
you can see how this frameworkworks.
And the story is about one ofmy students works.
And the story is about one ofmy students, a freelance
photographer, and thisphotographer wanted to create a
course, but she felt overwhelmedby all her expertise the posing
, the editing, the clientmanagement and more.
And so the breakthrough camewhen, after brainstorming and

(14:03):
validating, she realized heraudience's biggest pain point
was actually learning how tobook their first clients.
Isn't that funny, isn't thatinteresting?
So, out of all the differentareas of photography that she
knew about, she realized thather audience's biggest pain
point was learning how to booktheir first clients right at the
start, right at the very startof their photography journey.

(14:25):
And the result was that shelaunched a course called how to
Land your First ThreePhotography Clients in 30 Days,
and it was a huge success.
And I really love thattransformation promise how to
land your first threephotography clients in 30 days
Super specific, super niched andit was a huge success.

(14:46):
So here's what I want you to doafter this episode Schedule 20
minutes for a brain dump.
Then I want you to identifyyour audience's biggest pain
points.
Then I want you to validateyour course idea with a poll or
a mini offer, startexperimenting on social media
and then write a one sentencetransformation promise.
That's it.

(15:07):
Super simple, but so effective.
All right, that's a wrap ontoday's episode.
If you're ready to turn yourexpertise into a sellable course
idea.
Remember this Clarity is yoursuperpower.
