Today's topic understanding themetaverse and how parents can
help Gen Alpha navigate withfaith.
Before we start, I want toremind you that there's good and
bad in everything we do.
One of the greatest gifts fromGod is the freedom to choose our

With that in mind, I'm askingyou to listen with an open heart
when we talk about themetaverse.
We won't always be around toguide our kids, so it's
important we teach them how tomake good choices and have
strong faith.
We don't have to be scared ofthings like technology.
Remember fear doesn't come fromGod.
Let's dive in.

What exactly is the metaverse?
That is a question that manypeople are constantly asking,
especially parents now thesedays, so I'm going to simplify
this as easy as possible.
That way, you have a betterunderstanding of what it is
exactly.
The metaverse is essentially avirtual universe, an expansive

network of 3D virtual worldsfocused on social connection.
It's like the internet broughtto life or stepping inside a
computer game, where you caninteract with environments and
other people in real time.
Instead of browsing websites,you're walking around in digital
spaces, attending virtualconcerts, exploring virtual
cities and meeting up withfriends who could be on the
other side of the world, allthrough a digital avatar that

represents you.
Those experiences can beaccessed through various devices
like VR headsets, computers andsmartphones, offering a more
immersive way of experiencingdigital content.
It's a blend of multipleelements of technology virtual
reality, augmented reality andvideo, where users live within a
virtual universe.
Companies like Meta, google,microsoft and countless startups

are pouring billions into themetaverse infrastructure, aiming
to create an immersive digitalexperience that rival the
physical world.
The market size and growthpotential of the metaverse are
staggering.
According to a report byBloomberg Intelligence, the
metaverse could represent an 800billion market in present day,
2024.
Other analysts project evenmore optimistic figures,

suggesting that the totaleconomic input could reach into
the trillions as theinfrastructure, platforms and
technologies mature.
These investments reflect astrong belief in the metaverse
potential to revolutionize howwe work, play, socialize and
learn.
As a father, I feel that it'simportant to talk about this
alpha generation, because a lotof us parents don't realize that

our children are born instantlyinto a digital world, not
realizing that they didn't havecertain things as we were
growing up, and this particulargeneration, which is born from
2010 to 2025, are the first togrow up entirely within the 21st
century, immersed in a digitalworld from the earliest moments

characterized by their digitalorigins, this generation
interacts with technology in anintuitive and seamless manner.
Unlike any of theirpredecessors, they are expected
to be the most technologicalfluent generation, having been
exposed to smartphones, tabletsand the internet from a very
young age.
Diversity is another hallmarkof this alpha generation.
They are growing up in a worldthat is more connected and

multicultural than ever before.
Early projections suggest thatthey will be the most racially
and ethnically diversegeneration in history.
Globally, the alpha generationis massive.
The United Nations datasuggests that there are
approximately 2.8 million alphasborn worldwide every week.
By the time the last of thealpha generation is born in 2025
, they will number nearly 2billion, making up a significant

portion of the globalpopulation.
Their preferences, behaviorsand values will shape the future
trends in technology adoption,digital content consumption,
education, and even in politicaland cultural landscapes.
The alphas are set to inherit aworld where the lines between
the physical and digital haveincreasingly blurred, calling
for a future where digitalfluency is not just avatacious,
but essential.

Understanding the uniquecharacteristics of the alpha
generation is crucial foreducators, policymakers,
technologists and businessmakers as they prepare for a
world that seamlessly blendreality with digital innovation.
Now, when it comes totechnological components of the
metaverse, there are only twocomponents of the metaverse that
I want you to familiarizeyourself with, which is one.
Virtual reality, known as VR,is a cornerstone of the

metaverse, providing immersiveexperiences that transport users
into virtual environments.
Vr headsets allow for a levelof immersion that blurs the
lines between physical anddigital worlds, too.
Augmented reality, or AR,overlays digital information
into the real world and can beaccessed through smartphones,
glasses and other devices.
It enriches physical realitywith virtual elements, bridging

the gap between the two worlds.
Now, when it comes to biblicalprinciples, engaging with the
Metaverse from a Christianperspective involves navigating
these spaces in a way thataligns with biblical teachings
and values.
The Bible, while written longbefore the digital age, offers
timeless principles that canguide our interactions within
any virtual environment.
I want to share some thingsthat may open your mind in

regards to the Metaverse.
Colossians 3-2 Set your mindson things above, not on earthly
things.
This verse reminds Christiansto focus on eternal values and
virtues even when engaging withthe transient and often
distracting digital world.
In the context of the Metaverse, this could mean participating
in activities that embracegenuine communities and avoiding

virtual experiences that couldlead to negative spiritual or
moral outcomes.
Philippians 4-8.
Finally, brothers and sisters,whatever is true, whatever is
noble, whatever is right,whatever is pure, whatever is
lovely, whatever is admirable,if anything is excellent or
praiseworthy, think about suchthings.
Applying this principle todigital engagement encouraged

believers to consume and createcontent that uplifts, educates
and reflect the goodness of God.
Digital Stewardship Christiansare called to be stewards of
everything God has given them,including their presence in
digital spaces.
This involves using technologyand digital platforms in a
responsible and meaningful waysthat contribute to a positive

matter in the communities thatthey are a part of, and being
mindful of the time andresources invested into virtual
environments, community andFellowship.
The New Testament emphasizesthe importance of fellowship and
community among believersHebrews 10-24-25.
And let us consider how we mayspur one another on toward love
and good deeds, not giving upmeeting together as somewhere in

a habit of doing, butencouraging one another, and all
the more as you see the dayapproaching In the Metaverse,
this could translate to creatingand participating in virtual
spaces that encourage spiritualgrowth, offer support and foster
connections that reflectChrist's love and teachings.
Evangelism and DiscipleshipDigital worlds offer new
opportunities for evangelism anddiscipleship, allowing

Christians to share their faithand disciple others across the
world.
As the CEO of one of the topdesign studios in the world that
built virtual worlds, and as aparent raising Gen Alpha
children, I wanted to know themetaverse's impact on our
children's digital habits andmental health.
According to a report by thePew Research Center, the
majority of teenagers in theUnited States are almost
constantly online, with socialmedia being a significant part

of their daily interactions.
This constant connectivityraises questions about the
impact of digital environmentson their well-being.
The American PsychologicalAssociation, apa, has
highlighted concerns regardingscreen time and its association
with mental health issues inchildren and adolescents.
Studies suggest that theseexcessive use of digital devices

in social media can lead to anincreased feeling of loneliness,
anxiety and depression amongyoung people.
However, the APA alsorecognized that digital
platforms can offer valuableopportunities for learning and
social support when usedappropriately.
Furthermore, research indicatesthat the immersive technologies
like VR and AR, which arecentered to the metaverse, can

have both positive and negativeeffects on the children's
development.
On one hand, these technologiescan enhance engagement and
learning, providing uniqueexperiences that are not
possible in the physical world.
On the other hand, there areconcerns about potential overuse
, privacy issues and the impactof highly immersive digital
experiences on young minds.
I pulled some studies and pilotprojects that I want to share
with you all.

Psychology found that VR cansignificantly improve student
learning outcomes compared totraditional learning methods.
The study highlighted theability of VR to provide
immersive experiences thatenhance comprehension and
retention of complex subjects.

For example, an AR project in aEuropean school allows students

digital world or physical world,it is something that we must
instill into our children,especially as they start to
navigate these digital worlds.

significantly improve criticalthinking skills, enabling young

people to better understand andevaluate media messages and
their underlying values.
Let's look at how we can enableour children's critical
thinking and ethical decisionmaking.
Educate on media literacy.
Teach children to question andanalyze the content they consume
, including understanding thepurpose of the media,
distinguishing between fact andopinion and recognizing bias.
Encourage open dialogue.

Have regular discussions abouttheir online experiences,
encouraging them to share whatthey see, think and feel about
digital content they engage with.
Use scriptural guidance.
Integrate biblical principlesand discussions about digital
content, helping children toview media through the lens of
their faith, evaluating whataligns with their Christian
values and teachings.
Now let's talk about settinghealthy boundaries.

Establishing digital boundariesis essential for maintaining a
healthy balance between onlineand offline life.
Chaucer colleges and digitalwellness advocates stress the
importance of setting limits onscreen time, ensuring the
digital engagement is enrichingrather than detrimental.
Guidelines for establishingdigital boundaries Set clear
limits on the amount of timespent in digital environments,

encouraging engagement inoffline activities and
interactions.
Support quality content.
Encourage participation indigital spaces that offer
positive, uplifting content anddiscourage engagement with
content that conflicts withChristian values.
Create tech-free zones.
Establish areas and timeswithin the home where technology
is not permitted, such asduring meal times or in bedrooms

The role of parents intechnology cannot be overstated.
Studies have shown thatparental behavior significantly
impact children's digital habits.
A report by the Pew ResearchCenter indicates that children
are most likely to have abalanced approach to digital

in a disciplined and mindfulmanner.
Let's look at some strategiesfor parental modeling 1.

our engagement.
This discussion has highlighteda transformative potential of

However, it has alsounderscored the importance of
approaching this digitalfrontier with discernment
grounded in the principles andvalues of our faith.
The metaverse presents a newfrontier filled with

Yet, like any aspect of ourlife, it comes with challenges

Grounding our engagement in theChristian faith provides a
framework for making thoughtfuldecisions that reflect our
