Speaker 1 (00:28):
And welcome to
technology tap.
I'm Professor Jay Rod.
In this episode let's talkabout free and paid comp tier
classes.
Let's get into it.
Welcome to technology tap.
(01:06):
For those who don't know me, myname is Professor Jay Rod and
I'm Professor of cybersecurityand I created this podcast about
almost four years ago to talkall stuff about comp tier.
So I'm very big into helpingstudents pass their A plus
network plus security, plusseries of exams.
Alright, so this is gonna be ashort one today, guys, because I
(01:28):
have news.
I have a couple oforganizations contact me because
of this podcast and tick tock.
Right, I'm on tick tock now, guys, at Professor Jay Rod and
hit the like button, for then Ican go live and they all and
they wanted me to kind of likeannounce it that they are doing
(01:54):
classes.
Now, some of them are free, some of them are not free.
I'm gonna go over.
I'm not gonna mention the, theschool.
You know you can email me atProfessor Jay Rod, jr od, at
gmailcom, and I can get moreinto detail, but there is one
(02:14):
school that's offering a wholeyear of a cybersecurity course.
That means you take a wholebunch of classes I think 123456,
1010 classes, but it's a wholeyear, whole calendar year.
Now that could be free or pay, depending on your income, so
(02:38):
that you got a.
You know it all depends on yourincome, has nothing to do with
me, all depends on your income.
That's in New York City andthat is not zoom, that's in
person.
You got to go in there inperson.
I have another one, again in NewYork City, that it could be
(03:00):
free, again depending on your, your financial status, if it's.
But that one is zoom, that onecould.
That's zoom right.
That one's done on totallyonline.
So if you want you can go tothat one.
And then I have another one.
I think this one doesn't startinto May.
It's paid and free, dependagain depending on how much
(03:28):
money you make.
This one is in person, is andit's in Westchester County.
So for my people up there, theBronx area, westchester County,
this one might be better for youthan you know going down to the
city, and that one does a plus,a plus.
They will do a class where it'sa plus network plus, security,
(03:50):
plus.
The second one is just a plus.
So the first one is a wholecybersecurity course for a year.
The second one is just a plusnine weeks, six hours a week.
And the third one is could be aplus network, plus security
plus.
I think it's 40 hours each one.
(04:11):
So if you are interested, pleaseemail me at professor J rod J R
O D at gmailcom and in thesubject put come to a class and
in the body of the message tellme which one are you interested
in.
Are you interested in the fullyear cyber security program?
(04:33):
Are you interested in the nineweek a plus class?
Are you interested in thetrifecta right a plus?
There were plus security plus.
Also, if you can tell me, youknow if you could pay or not pay
right, I don't know how much.
Again, I don't want to say howmuch it is on here.
I think I know how much it is.
I don't want to stay on here.
(04:54):
Email me, I can tell you howmuch.
And it's taught by greatinstructors, you know, and it's
all geared for you to.
You know, get your, you know acouple of certificates, those
certifications along the way andyou can continue.
You, you know your growth fromthere.
There's a great opportunity.
Guys, you know, the one issuethat I have with free stuff is
(05:20):
that people don't like to takeadvantage of it.
They don't.
I've had.
I've taught a lot of classesthat were you know that they
were for free.
You know based on so, you knowgrant or something.
You know somebody got a grand, decided, hey, I want to spend my
money doing this.
And they reach out to me theysay, hey, can you teach this a
plus class?
Right, you know all thesepeople.
(05:41):
They're getting it for free.
And what happens?
They stop showing up.
Right, they stop showing upbecause it's hard.
These classes are not easy guys.
So if your commitment level isnot there, please don't email me
.
Right, I only want seriouspeople who are willing to put in
the work.
There's a lot of people outthere who who want to change
(06:05):
their career and want to changetheir life, but they don't want
to take it serious.
Right, this is work.
Right, going just getting youra plus, it's work, it's a
commitment.
You have to be able you knowyou have to be able to put in
the work, to put in thecommitment.
If you're not gonna do it,please don't email me.
(06:28):
Right, if you're not gonna beable to take the time to do six
hours a week Plus, read, right, cuz you know it's not just
showing up to class.
You got to do more, right.
If you cannot do that for nineweeks, show that consistency for
nine weeks.
Please don't email me andremember the summer is coming
(06:48):
right.
And then you know, you know, Ithink we get a lot of schools,
get a lot of enrollment.
These type of schools get a lotof enrollment in January
because people, you know, theyNew year, new me kind of thing,
and then it kind of wanes, youknow, towards the middle of the
year.
But you know, let's, let's dothis, let's get you certified
(07:11):
this year, let's make 2024 theyear that you finally do it.
Change your career, get a newjob, get a job that makes more
money, make your family proud, make yourself proud, elevate
yourself, educate yourself right, because that's how we're gonna
do it, by education and, andyou know, learning our way.
I wish I had my come tears forfree.
You know, I had to take a bootcamp, had to pay my own money to
(07:36):
get a boot camp for a plus, andI took the boot camp four days,
10 am To 6 pm, monday throughThursday, and that Saturday I
took both exams in past.
So because I went home, youknow, the class ended at 6.
I got home by 7.
Study to midnight.
(07:58):
I did that.
Monday, tuesday, wednesday,thursday.
That's 20 hours of studyingright there, right, 40 hours a
lecture, 20 hours of study.
Friday I study at least 10hours.
So that's 30 hours of studying,40 hours of 32, 32 hours of
lecture, 40 hours of.
Is that for 30 hours of study?
(08:19):
Got up Saturday morning, went tothe, the first one For the, a
plus.
When got lunch.
Came back to part two, you gota plus certified following week
for network Network plus.
Did the same thing to the class10 to 6 Went home study five
hours Right Friday.
Study for 10 hours.
Saturday took the exam past.
(08:43):
Was I mentally drained afterthat?
Absolutely, but I Did what Ihad to do.
That was my goal.
Right, my goal was to do that.
My goal was to get certifiedand I was able to do it.
If I could do it, you can do it.
You just gotta, you know, putaway the PlayStation,
playstation right.
Put away the Netflix.
(09:05):
Talk to your significant other, tell them listen.
This is what I'm trying to doand you know I may not spend
that much time with you thesenext couple of weeks because I'm
I'm trying to handle mybusiness, I'm trying to study.
I Right, that's what we need todo.
That's what you need to do.
It is so disheartening, sodisheartening when you're
teaching one of these classesthat's grant based, that the
(09:28):
student is taking it for free, and then you walk around the
classroom and the student, like, one of them is playing YouTube.
One of them is playing a game, like Because it's free right,
it's free, they're doing andeven paid courses.
I've seen, you know, I used towork at Lincoln Tech and I've
seen students.
You know the parents are payingfor this, or the parents got a
loan for them to go to schooland then you walk around and
(09:50):
they are on YouTube, you know, trying to see how to the, you
know how to get to the nextlevel of whatever game that
they're playing.
Right, take these classesseriously.
These are free classes, youknow it, and they're high
quality classes.
They're not just BS classes, you know.
It just burns me that studentsjust like come one day or two
(10:14):
days and they just want to goofoff the rest of the time.
It's a takes a little commitment.
You want to change your career?
That takes commitment.
You want to better yourself?
That takes commitment.
You have to Dig deep insideyourself and say, hey, I'm gonna
change.
This is what I want to do.
I'm gonna you know, for thenext nine weeks, or for the next
(10:35):
four weeks, or for the next sixweeks, I'm going to have this
kind of mindset and I'm gonna doit Right, and that's, that's
what you have to do, that's whatwe have to do.
That's you know, it's it's onlyfor ourselves that we're gonna
get it.
Talk to anybody who's in IT.
Right, they, these guys, study.
This is not.
They don't just wake up, rollout of bed and and, and you know
(10:58):
, they know all this stuff.
They have to study, you know.
And there's people that live, breathe this stuff.
I had a student once that hetook the CEH certified, the
hacker course with me, and Itold him because he, he lives in
briefs computer, you could seeit, he's a nerd.
And I told him the.
(11:21):
The exam is four hours.
If you finish fast, just hangout for, like, until you get
like the two and a half hour, three hour mark.
Right, just go over the now, don't go over the questions, but
just like, move the mouse everynow and then drift off into
space somewhere, because if youfinish too early they're gonna
flag you.
Finish an hour and a half, ofcourse they flag them.
(11:43):
They wouldn't give me acertificate.
You know they.
They claim that.
You know how.
You know he doesn't haveanything in his background.
He didn't graduate you knowwhat a college degree.
He doesn't work in IT, he wasjust starting.
He just wanted to getcertification to get a job.
So they made him take anothersir.
I think they made him take compto your security plus.
Once he got that, they gave himthe CH.
(12:07):
But you look at this guy, helives computers.
He lives computers.
And that's what you have to do.
You have to immerse yourself inthe topic For the time that
you're studying.
If not, you never gonna.
It's never gonna happen for you, no matter how much you you
want, because it it cannot weighthe desire you have.
(12:29):
So you have to keep whatever itis as motivating you To go into
that class, to set up in thatclass.
That has to motivate youThroughout all those weeks that
you're there, right, so whenyou're low you think about why
you there and that will kick youright, kick you in the butt.
I make you stay and straightout and you know, achieve your
(12:52):
goal.
I had one class that was free.
I had 20 started with 22 people.
At the end, it ended with eight, 14 people dropped out.
They just, you know variousreasons.
You know Some people have realproblem, social, emotional needs
.
Other people are just lazy, they don't want to do it.
I need too much, too much of acommitment.
(13:13):
Don't be like that.
All right, again, email me,professor J rod.
Jrod had gmailcom, put on thesubject line come to your class
and then put on the messagewhich one you are interested in
either the one-year cybersecurity, the nine week class, a
older, I think 40 weeks of Of40, is it 40 hours of a plus?
(13:40):
Never plus security plus.
So email me, looking forward toreading your emails.
And, yeah, then hopefully, youknow you decide to take these
classes and you know we makethat change.
Let's make 2020 for the yearthat we finally get a cop to you
.
Yeah, uh, certifications, because that's what we want,
(14:03):
right, guys?
This is gonna be the year.
I feel it.
I feel it.
Guys, this is gonna be the yearthat you, that you finally do
it and you finally get your youra plus network plus, security
plus, or whatever it is that youwant to take.
