Speaker 1 (00:00):
You can think of it as preparing yourself to not
miss your potential, becauseyou're protecting you from
energy leaks and from stagnantenergy and you're creating a
situation where your window ofexcitement grows and that helps
condition your brain away fromthe resistance.
Hello, my loves, and welcome tothe Purposeful Lifestyle

(00:25):
Development Podcast, where wediscuss all things thought, work
and manifestation but we useneuroscience and the study of
the brain to do so.
I'm your host, tessa Spizak.
I'm a board certifiedpractitioner, master life and
health coach and seasonedexecutive speaker.
If you're ready to create yourhighest value lifestyle and turn
your dream life into a reality, you're in the right place.

(00:46):
Let's get right into today'sepisode.
Hello, hello, my loves, andwelcome into the Purposeful
Lifestyle Development Podcast.
I hope you are feeling amazingtoday, however, and wherever you
are listening in from Today, ipersonally am feeling so ignited
.
I've said this before when thedays fell this way, but

(01:08):
something about my brain is Ilove when the first of the month
falls on a Monday.
Something about it is supermotivating for me.
It's like a fresh start, fresheverything.
I don't know.
I just feel like I'm reallydriven to have a really
productive day, and this morningtoday is Sunday that I'm

(01:28):
recording.
I got up really early and I gotso much done Just one thing
after the other, super, superfast, and it really feels like I
got more done already than Iusually get done in a whole day.
And I was feeling supermotivated to start the month
with a very nothing to do list.

(01:50):
What many big projects on my todo list?
or at least nothing that wasweighing me down mentally or
energetically.
And I think the reason that Igot this big burst of motivation
is because I was reminded by agal I was coaching with and
working with of the concept ofthe mental drain that we can put

(02:13):
ourselves under when we let ourenergy be leached by all the
things that we are putting onthe back burner, and this is
something I know I need toremind myself of too.
So, especially for any of myperfectionists listening in,
maybe, executive functioningstruggling friends, adhd

(02:34):
entrepreneurs, that group thisis something that we all need to
keep in front of mind as well.
So I really want to explorethat today And this is the theme
of my month moving forward, andI'm sure that if you make it
the theme of yours too, over thenext 30 days, you will find
yourself completely reignitedand feeling the feeling of

(02:57):
alignment And in truetransparency.
Like I said, this is somethingthat I do have to remind myself
of from time to time when itstarts to slip.
It can sometimes take megetting to a struggle, burnout
kind of brain thoughts that Idon't know what to do, era
before I realize this once again.

(03:18):
So to avoid that, here is areminder again for our community
here and for me, and thisreminder is if you want momentum
, you have to get going.
A mantra that I remind you ofregularly is that action begets
momentum.
So if you are searching forflow and for ease and creativity

(03:40):
and inspiration, you have toget moving.
You have to be moving towardssomething that you want or are
passionate about creating.
There's a theory that I totallybelieve that humans are happiest
when they're moving towards agoal.
The truth is is that happinesscomes more from moving towards

(04:02):
what you want, even in thehappiness that you get from
receiving it or achieving it inso many situations, because it
allows your psyche to havesomething to anticipate.
It creates more serotonin inthe brain which allows you to
feel more joy about it.
It's really cool to think about, actually, and I pulled a quote

(04:23):
for you here.
That says the consensus basedon the psychology of action and
personal goals clearly indicatesthat the successful pursuit of
meaningful goals plays animportant role in the
development and maintenance ofour psychological well-being, to
the extent that when we'remaking progress towards our

(04:44):
goals, we're happier emotionallyand more satisfied with our
lives.
And I want you to pair thisinformation with another thought
.
When we're not moving in thedirection of the things that we
want, we're not doing what weknow we should be doing to move
towards our purpose, it startsto create stagnant energy within

(05:05):
you.
It starts to really zap yourmotivation and drive to even do
those things.
So herein lies the beginning ofa vicious cycle.
We talk about the cycles a lothow to break a chain in that
link, and this is definitely one, because it can create a
situation where our stagnantenergy starts to actually take

(05:26):
over and begins to really holdyou back even more from the
things that you want.
I want you to think about itthis way If you've been here a
while or you've been coachingwith me, then you know something
that I'm big about is neverbreaking promises to yourself.
That's definitely my most tough, loviest thing that I will get

(05:48):
onto you for is if you promiseyourself you'll do something and
then you don't do it, youcreate a situation where your
brain thinks that you lie to you.
This is something that willcompletely zap your energy.
It absolutely will bring yourconfidence and the confidence
you have in yourself down, andit'll start to replace

(06:10):
excitement with anxiety around.
Whatever the subject is,whatever thing you want to do in
And overall, you're able topour less into the other things
that you're doing.
If you don't pour into you, youhave nothing to pour into others
.
If you're not pouring anythinggood into yourself, what do you
think will be pouring out?

(06:30):
And why is this?
This is because if you'reputting something off and you're
putting something on the backburner or on this never-ending
to-do list somewhere near thebottom, thinking to yourself oh
you know, i'll get to thiseventually, this does sit in
your thoughts, even just alittle, even when you're not
actively thinking about it.

(06:50):
This thing that's on the to-dolist is diverting attention from
all the other things that we'redoing now.
That's why sometimes thosethings that would help us more,
or even help us the most, if wegot it done, it becomes the
hardest thing to do.
We put them off too long andthe excitement around it has

(07:12):
turned anxious.
We've lost any good energy thatwas attached to it.
And I want you to think of itthis way You really do save your
energy by getting things done, and getting them done sooner
than later.
I'm going to ask you somethingHave you ever heard the concept
of activation energy?

(07:32):
It's this idea that when you getan idea, it activates something
inside of you.
But if you put it off and youleave it for later, it starts to
kill that momentum, starts tokill that drive.
If you need creativity and youneed brain power for it, the
longer you wait, the more thatdrains.
And there's this great, greatbook called Big Magic.

(07:56):
It was written by ElizabethGilbert and she writes in her
book about this perspective thatideas are completely their own
entity.
If you don't act on theexcitement or the motivation
behind an idea when you have it,then she says that idea will
just leave you.
If you don't use an idea whenit comes to you, she believes

(08:19):
that it even has the potentialto move on to someone else.
And this concept is really, really interesting.
I definitely suggest, if youwant to, it's a great read.
You should definitely pick thisup If it's something you're
thinking about reading you'veheard it before.
I'm going to tell you go ahead, skip the next 30 seconds
because I'm going to get alittle spoiler if you haven't.

(08:40):
But in any case, in her bookshe's talking about this
incredibly niche idea that shehad for another book.
It was incredibly niche, shesaid.
It was about a middle-agedspinster from Minnesota who fell
in love with her married boss.
She gets involved in a foolishbusiness scheme down in the

(09:01):
Amazon jungle A bunch of moneyand a person goes missing and
the character is sent down thereto sort things out.
It's a love story And she putit off and put it off And when
she finally went to write it sherealized the worst thing had
happened.
She lost her passion.
It was gone.
The desire and the drive andthe will to write it just went

(09:25):
away.
And years later she made a newfriend And one day she's out to
lunch with this new friend andthe new friend, the woman, told
her that she was writing a book.
Of course this interested herand she asked what it was about.
And wouldn't you believe it?
The same dang, super specificidea.
Literally, it was about theexact same thing.

(09:47):
So this is what compelled herto write Big Magic and explore
the thought that ideas aresomething that can literally
come to you and leave you if youdon't give it enough attention
Really cool way to look at it.
I like that perspective, but Ican attest to this in some sense
.
You have no idea how many notesI have in my notes app.

(10:11):
The little things that I hadjotted down that I thought in
the time were my most profoundideas, great symbols to share
and to coach on, great storiesto tell.
But since I didn't really doanything about it in the time, i
didn't really write it out allthe way.
When I knew it well, theexcitement went away, it was

(10:33):
gone And then for some of them Iwent back and read and I didn't
even understand it, like thevisuals I got that I was going
to use for that lesson for thatday I don't even understand the
profound way that I had itbefore because I didn't act on
it.
So I say all of this to say thatwhen you get your things done,

(10:56):
the important things to you done, not only does it free up your
overall energy, but Sometimes, when you don't use the energy
behind the action that you wantto take.
You won't be able to for anumber of different reasons, and
I want to give you my mostimportant point here.
Here's what I need you to knowand really just take away from

(11:17):
this whole conversation Notdoing what you know you need to
do, not doing the thing, thatyou're procrastinating on,
continuing to not do it createsresistance, and resistance is
that inner force that zaps ourenergy and absolutely blocks our
creativity.
I want you to think ofresistance as the opposite of

(11:39):
motivation and of creativity.
It's something that can reallysneak into our headspace.
It disguises itself as ourvoice of reason, but tells us
all the reasons why we shouldn'tdo the thing.
It tells us don't do it now.
It tells us there's alwaystomorrow, we're not ready yet,
that we don't feel right or thetiming isn't perfect.

(12:00):
Resistance is when our bestintentions for ourselves are
overshadowed by our fears, ourdoubts, our insecurities and our
limiting beliefs.
But here's the thing Resistanceis only powerful and it only
has power if you allow it to.
It helps so so much when werecognize it for what it truly

(12:22):
is.
When we recognize resistancefor what it truly is, it's
nothing more than an illusion ora mental fallacy that stands
between us and the life that wedesire.
Because resistance thrives, myfriends, on inaction, on our
unwillingness to face the thingsthat come up when we're

(12:42):
pursuing our passions, thethings that feel too hard or new
or challenging or scary.
And the longer we letresistance win and we let it
hold us back just put thesethings on the back of the to-do
list the harder it becomes forour brain to break free from it.
The resistance becomes muchmore familiar to us, more so

(13:05):
than tapping into our momentum, tapping into our flow and
getting things done.
But here's the thing When wechoose to confront our
resistance head on, this iswhere we start to find our
untapped energy, our creativity, that really golden nugget that
is within all of us, where wecreate that flow.

(13:27):
I want you to imagine a lifewhere you wake up every day
You're feeling energized, you'refeeling inspired and ready to
tackle the things that are mostimportant to you.
Imagine that sense offulfillment and really feel it
as it washes over you whenyou're taking the bold and the
unfamiliar steps towards yourdreams.
Instead of just sitting stillin resistance, waiting for the

(13:51):
right day or the right time, orjust putting it off into an
undescribed one day, start apursuit of excellence that makes
sense to you.
Every time I hear that word, itgives me a little bit of chills
, but I want you to think aboutyour personal pursuit of
excellence, and that doesn'tmean doing every single thing a

(14:13):
thousand percent of the time, but it's doing things that make
the most sense to you and notgetting stuck in a resisted
place.
Because here's the thing, myfriends, we are all capable of
achieving our own greatness andour own excellence.
We have the capacity to tap intoour potential for achieving
exactly what we want.

(14:33):
And how is that?
It starts with our choice, achoice to embrace, maybe,
temporary confusion ordiscomfort, but to confront our
fears head on and to take action, even when you don't know the
exact path yet, because that'sokay.
Every step we take towards thelifestyle that we desire for
ourselves, it's a victory, andyou have to think of it as such.

(14:56):
You have to let your brain knowthat this is good, this is the
direction that we want, this issafe and this is what we want.
To be familiar.
Every time we do that, it's astep away from our limits and
it's a step away from the thingsthat create resistance within
us, and it's a step towards thelife we know we deserve.
It's towards the creation ofour dreams, the manifestations

(15:20):
of our talents and thefulfillment of the purpose and
what we really desire.
Remember you are stronger thananything that holds you back,
and remember this as you take onyour week and you take on this
month Absolutely all of my loveto every single one of you.
I cannot wait to hear exactlywhere this reminder takes you.

(15:43):
But all right, my loves, that'swhere I'll leave us today.
I want to thank you so much forjoining in on this conversation
with me, and each week, everyMonday, we're going to be
posting a new episode, going alittle bit deeper into the
conversation, of what you can doto train your brain on purpose
to really allow for thelifestyle that you want to live.

(16:03):
Until next time, my loves.
In the meantime, here's to yourhealth and your happiness.
