Bassin is a professional actress and author, known for her compelling portrayals of an array of interesting characters in film, TV, and stage. She starred in the film classic "Barfly" opposite Mickey Rourke and Faye Dunaway, directed by Barbet Schroeder, and appeared in Oliver Stone’s Emmy and Golden Globe winner "Indictment: The McMartin Trial,” as well as Clint Eastwood’s "J. Edgar" with Leonardo DiCaprio. Her numerous television performances include roles in David E. Kelley’s new series for Apple+TV, “Presumed Innocent” starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Ruth Negga, and Peter Sarsgaard, as well as “Shameless,” “How to Get Away with Murder,” “Ray Donovan,” “Major Crimes,” “Criminal Minds,” “Grey's Anatomy,” “E.R.,” “Crossing Jordan,” “American Dreams,” “Gideon's Crossing,” and “The Pretender” among others. Roberta is a long-time member of the Television Academy and other professional organizations, including Women in Film, Women in Theatre, Independent Films West, and First Stage, where she has produced, moderated, performed, and cast projects. Roberta Bassin is a graduate of UCLA and holds a California Lifetime Teaching Credential. She taught for the L.A. Unified School District in elementary and adult education and the Gifted Program in Shakespeare, Contemporary Acting, and Dance at Cal State L.A. She also enjoyed teaching the young actors program of the SAG Conservatory at AFI for eleven years. Roberta is an artist in watercolor and oils, and a dancer in ballet and jazz since the age of five. Music is also a significant part of her life; she has studied and performed on the violin, sung, and taken up the piano as an adult. Married with children, she is the proud mother of a son and daughter, both graduates of UCLA.
