Welcome to Time Added on the podcast that rewinds the clock
to the golden age of Premier League football in the 90s.
That was like live at the BBC, kind of like Live Aid trying.
To be all professional, look at that how we going Woody.
Very well mate, very well, and I'm very, very happy to be doing
another time added on episode because we've got an absolute
(00:34):
beauty of an episode for you guys today, haven't we?
Haven't we just Yes. Well, let's welcome our guests,
shall we say, Gaz. How you doing, mate?
Welcome. Well, thanks for thanks for
having me on. Oh no, the pleasure is all ours,
mate. We've do.
You know what? I think Premier League in the
90s was heavily influenced, particularly in the early stages
(00:57):
around Norwich City. Jonesy, would you agree?
Yeah, yeah, absolutely. The early years.
Yeah, what's better than than having a Norwich City fan on?
I am looking forward to this one.
So if you don't know, Gaz, who'sInstagram is Norwich man cave
mania, mate, you've got some awesome stuff on there.
I tell you. I had a snooped before, yeah.
Gaz, want to talk to us a bit about your memorabilia?
(01:19):
Yes. So my, I've got, I've got loads
of stuff. One of the things that I
couldn't bring into this becauseit's it's elsewhere is my
original seats from Cara Rd. Yeah.
All right, so you sent me a picture of this, didn't you?
Yeah, when I was a junior Canaryand I used to go with my mum and
(01:41):
yeah, we had season tickets nextto each other and when they
knocked the Old South stand down, they then sold the seats
to, they gave priority to the people who had season tickets,
right, 10 LB a seat. Oh.
Yeah, far out. I'd have bought the whole S
stand but. That is my grotto piece, but I
(02:07):
haven't got it with me now, but I've got some other some other
lovely bits that I'm I'm really happy to show off.
How long have you been there a season ticket holder?
Are you still one now or? Still one now, Yeah, I I think
my first season ticket was about9192.
Which is. And I've had it all the way.
(02:30):
I I went over to America and didnearly two months, two years
work in America. So I didn't have it then, but
then came back and restarted it again.
And now, yeah, never going to let it go no matter where.
But that's the thing, even when we're in League One and then ARC
days, we were still selling out Cara Rd.
And. Now the way this to get a ticket
(02:51):
is is massive. So it's just one of them things
that I'm never going to let go of and I've got an 8 year old
son now. So when the time comes that I
can no longer go, this is. Wicked and that though, mate is
exactly why we do these kind of pods because and particularly
fan focused ones yeah because everybody's got a story
(03:12):
everybody's got a reason for being a fan of that club and the
fact that Norwich City have had such heritage in the Premier
League, let alone Football League history.
It's a great story and I'm I'm really looking forward to this
episode because obviously I knowyour obsession with 90s
football. So how did I mean, if we're
(03:35):
looking at, obviously we know you're Norwich fan in terms of
90s football, Yeah. Can you kind of just talk to us
what that kind of meant to you? I mean, I mean my favourite
every year, obviously taking outmarriage kid.
Yeah. 96 Yeah Zero 96. Everyone says that, yeah, that's
(03:58):
my favourite year as well. Something about that, yeah.
I left school in 98 so 2 years previous 1996.
The only worry I had in my life was homework and that was it.
Bills, nothing. Come on the other day.
And it's like no matter what youtalk about, as soon as you
(04:19):
mention a goal or you hear the first few bars of a song, you
can go straight back to a moment.
Like my hairs are sticking up onend now just thinking about it.
Like, yeah, well, I was just talking with my mate the other
day at work and we were talking about Michael Owen wearing the
all white England kit straight and scoring that goal against
(04:41):
Argentina straight away. I was like, I know where we
were. We were in that pub.
We were sitting on the window sill.
We were next to the fruit machine.
We watched that goal. It's just it's just memories and
it's it's incredible. And and the 90s itself was the
music, the culture, the the way of life, everything, the
football, it just football and music.
(05:03):
You can't get 2 better things than that.
That's like I was, I was in the car the other day when my son
and Chamberwamma came on and I was like, mate 1997.
I mean, my son's only six. I was like, I was like, this is
what? Dad had turned it right up
trying to blow his ears out, butyeah, no, yeah, it's yeah.
The music. The music, yeah.
(05:25):
Good memories, Absolutely. Obviously now, like with Oasis
getting back together, obviouslythat was the music musicians at
the time. But now.
Obviously they're back to you, but I've never got a ticket.
But every day either at work or at home I'm blasting out of
ASIC. The other day my sudden comes up
and was like, Danny Jay, what you doing?
(05:45):
Oh, that's right, you slide away.
Just the tilt. He scored, yeah, he scored last
season and just ran over becausehe went I'm a rock'n'roll.
Brilliant. Love it.
I think that's the thing though,isn't it?
You've got so much association to it.
And like you said, it's the goosebumps on the arm.
(06:06):
It's the where were you when when all this happened?
And obviously so you're a 96 then.
Was or 96 was your kind of pinnacle moment.
But if we take it back to a Norwich fan, then what was your
kind of peak 90s moment for being Norwich?
So obviously we were in the first ever Premier League season
(06:28):
and the season before we finished 18th, so we just
avoided relegation and then we entered into this glitzy new.
Super League. In which we're destined to get.
Delegated. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You're a favourite. It's one of the favourites to go
down, wasn't he? Yeah, and at Christmas I think
we were eight points clear at the top.
(06:50):
And it's, that's Nosebleed territory, that isn't it?
I mean Crokey. Isn't it?
And I mean we had the season before we had Robert Fleck and
we sold him for I think it was acouple of million and we bought
in Mark Robbins for about 800,000 and it's like.
Yeah. The Man United sub, it's like
(07:10):
so, So yes, So we, we, we shouldn't have done very good in
that season and we ended up finishing third.
We should have won it. We should, we really should have
won it, which is a scary thing to say as a, as a Norwich fan.
But we really, I suppose it's Leicester, Leicester, the
equivalent of Leicester, isn't it?
But we should have. It was just, I mean.
That April wasn't it. It just seemed to go downhill in
(07:33):
the start of April. Wasn't.
It, well, we, we said this though, Jonesy, didn't we, in
terms of the title charge episode.
And we spoke about Norwich briefly on the odds of how they
were going to do in the first season.
And it is that final charge, isn't it?
It's that March, April period that your team either picks up
(07:54):
momentum and piles on or runs out of gas.
Yeah, and unfortunately for Norwich, in that season, it
obviously happened that way. But I mean, what an incredible
finish though. I'll.
Take third moment and like all last lot at school, just
(08:14):
absolutely buzzing around. It was, it was incredible,
absolutely. Because it's a weird season.
I mean, they scored 61 goals butconceded 65.
Yeah, we, I think we're still the O the the OP team to finish
in the top something with a minus difference.
It's it was a mad season becauselike you lost when you lost
(08:35):
games, you lost. I mean, you lost like 512 was
it, Tottenham 7 was it? This game's black.
Yeah, yeah, like a mad, crazy season, but yeah.
It's the equivalent of being very Spursy.
Norwich. Norwich.
What was your Can you remember much about the 9293 season as a
(08:59):
season ticket holder? Was there much of a difference
compared to Football League football for you as a fan?
Massive it was, it was. I've gone again.
Carry on mate, this is it. Like I don't miss that as well.
Oh yes, yeah, I've got two of them.
(09:20):
I don't know where I'll put the other one, but.
For the listeners, Gaz has just held up, by the way, the Merlin
sticker album, What season was it, Gaz?
It was 94. Yeah, they're the best 1 I
think. Like the one I've got is is
signed? Oh no way, signed like Chris
(09:46):
Sutton there. Look at that.
Like. Mike, we could have used you for
the sticker book episode. Yeah, come on, we we need guys
back on. Let's do a poll.
Josie. For you, this is a good one, I
think because the following season I was actually lucky to
(10:11):
be mascot for Norwich. I was only a couple in there,
Steve Nickel, Nigel Clough, unbelievable wow for Norwich
against Liverpool and I took my sticker book and they.
So you had the full egg and Crest kit as a kid whilst
(10:31):
Liverpool were in that kit. Still got it, got the shorts.
OK, here we go right? This is dangerous, guys.
Buckle yourselves in for an episode here.
This is absolutely filth, right? So Jonesy quickly, sorry, I know
(10:51):
you've been a mascot, but just talk to me about Caro Road 9293.
Just very briefly mate, Sorry, I'm just sidewinded a little bit
so. Basically this, this is the the
pinnacle of what how I remember it because you see someone like
Andy Grey. Yeah.
So obviously used to have like St and Gravesy, which was
(11:13):
amazing, but it was just like like that and then all of a
sudden you're throwing cheerleaders and pyrotech and
the every part just the I can take a picture of the sky advert
of having one player from each club.
Yeah, I. Think there was a lion in it or
something as well and it's just all of a sudden you're going
(11:37):
you're like trundling along to Cow Road now it's like you've
got a buzz in your step, it's like.
Wicked. Just a.
Complete change around. Did they have all of like the
half time entertainment and stuff at Cow Rd like the
cheerleaders and all of the pyrotechnics and stuff?
Just because we're stuck out on the bump of England, it doesn't
(11:59):
mean that we don't get stuff like that.
Yeah. Did you have fireworks in
Norwich? We had this Was it the sky
strikers and things like that, the dancers, everything.
Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, be.
Wicked. Yeah, so that was sitting with
my mum and and watching the the cheerleaders as a.
Yeah, yeah, hide it behind your sticker album.
(12:24):
Oh yes. What a time, right?
I digress, Jonesy. Sorry.
Tell us how today's going to work, mate.
Explain to Gaz. Yeah.
So we're just going to go oversee is it 5-5 kind of topics
we're going to touch on? I think the first one.
Let's get onto it. Hey, Brooke, players, player,
(12:47):
players, up to you, mate. What have you got?
I mean, you can't really look past Jeremy Goss, yes.
And he was, he was at Norwich for over 10 years as well, which
was, you know, that's pure and far between now.
And he he was just he the, the season of the Premier League and
(13:13):
obviously a couple after that. That was his pinnacle of, of
being a Norwich player and he's just an amazing, amazing player.
I actually, I pumped into him a couple of, I think it was winter
time. He was helping do a show at, at
(13:34):
Norwich and he brought along some of his old shirts and other
bits, but he also brought along his old boots.
These were the old Nike Tiempo. Oh yes, they were the they were
the actual boots that he scored that volley against Bayern
(13:55):
Munich in. So let me stop you there. 2
seconds, I said to James the offair.
I've had a match magazine delivered this week, this one
right? And it's October's issue in
1993. And I open it up prepping for
this episode today. Then we have the Goss Cairo
road, right, carry on. And it's got a picture of his
(14:18):
volley against Bayern Munich. There you go.
And obviously I don't think. Yeah.
And I don't think at the time asa football fan, and I don't
think I realised how big this was.
I mean, Jeremy Goss score in andin terms of this victory in
Europe, I mean, incredible. But yeah, those boots must have
(14:39):
looked insane. The.
The the best thing that I found out about he bought them and
they were all in a in a box case, right?
I think I was I was one of the first people to talk to him
because he kind of appeared fromnowhere.
His his stuff was on display, but no one knew if he was
coming. And then he came one of my mates
like Tesla Goss. He's over there just like, it's
(15:01):
that way. I make them boots are in.
They're just incredible. What are they?
And he was like, well, they're obviously the boots that I wore
against Bayern Munich. Hey, that's and he was like,
come on, let's out, let's get them out.
I was like no, no, no, no, no, no.
No. How much do you want for them?
Yeah. Come on, let's get them out.
Open the box. He was passing them to me.
(15:22):
And the most incredible thing about that, these people now,
these people, these players nowadays, wear a pair of boots,
throw them away, wear their boots, throw away.
He had them boots. I can't remember if he said two
or three seasons. Wow.
What after? That them boots swear I'm
getting rid of you Two or three years.
(15:45):
That's incredible. It was just like, unbelievable.
You touched the boot that Goss scored against Munich.
These handheld them. That's incredible.
Yeah, OK, Right. So Jeremy Goss, OK, so he's
already on your list. Have you got anybody else or is
(16:07):
he just the is he, is he God within Norwich or?
He's probably, he's probably in the during the 90s.
He's the best one, yeah. Yeah, OK.
I mean, if we talk about a few more other players, James, have
you got a couple of players thatyou want to mention?
Yeah, obviously before he's transferred.
Chris Sutton, yeah. Yeah.
(16:28):
Roy Fox as well. It was always, I was always a
Roy Fox fan. Mad Roy Fox fan just now lived
in Suffolk so Oh OK, not a fan. He was a but if you think about
(16:51):
it, he was a player that becauseagain, we've discussed this
briefly, I think in terms of like the likes of Kanchowskis,
Limpa gigs. He's a breed of footballer that
doesn't really exist anymore. And he kind of, he found his
kind of feet at Norwich, didn't he in the 90s because he took
off, didn't he? Yeah, literally.
(17:13):
He took off. He was rapid and but yeah, was
incredible. And you had that partnership of
of Fox and Sutton which? Yeah.
You know, Sutton's obviously a afairly tall guy and and rule Fox
is just a nippy winger and it's the whole classic.
Get the ball out to it and run down the line, ping it in and on
(17:34):
your head, son. It was a classic thing and it it
was almost route one down the side, but it it was so
effective. I mean, I've got another one
here, Jonesy. So I'm going to talk about the
villain from the Ghostbusters movie, Brian Gunn.
(17:55):
He always used to scare me everytime I saw him on the pitch
because I can't remember what his hair looked like in terms of
his sort of like, comb over or whatever he had, but he just
didn't look like a footballer. But what a goalkeeper, Yeah.
Yeah, what a goalie. Yeah.
He was huge. Yeah, I remember the hairstyle.
(18:19):
Remember the kids. Oh yeah.
He was again a great servant to the club wasn't he, in terms of
like the amount of years he was there?
Yeah, he still is as well and obviously up until this season
his son played for Norwich. Angus Gunn.
Yes, of course. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And he's got a room named after him, hasn't he, at Norwich?
(18:41):
Is that right? The gun room or something?
Which I find incredible. And then he went into management
and yeah. Yeah, I remember that.
That didn't work, sadly. Yeah, I.
(19:03):
Mean find someone like that. I think we got them from
Bournemouth and it's like who? Yeah, yeah.
What was your first four goals in one Premiership game as well?
Yeah, I got that against Everton, wasn't it?
Yeah, yeah. He was just.
He was just. Did you have a poster boy at
(19:27):
Norwich? As in like, were you, Was it,
was it Goss? Yeah, it was.
Yeah. I think every kind of kid does,
don't they? Not Ian Crook.
Not Ian Crook. The bus of it there maybe?
(19:50):
Scored one free kick or something?
Yeah, obviously Ian Crook come over because obviously maybe in
Australia. I remember him when he was
manager of Sydney for a little bit.
Yeah, he was great, he was greatand he doesn't look like
footballer as well, so take yourhat off to him.
I'm not being funny. I think Norwich was probably,
there's a few actually. I mean Ipswich had a few, I mean
(20:12):
like John Walk. A lot of the footballers in the
90s, we've said this before, didn't look like footballers,
but they were men and they played like men and they were
just such a good, like good side.
Up until unfortunately your kindof demise in 9495.
I mean you were still a team that challenged the big teams.
(20:33):
You always gave a good game, didn't you?
Yeah. I mean just knowing that I was
coming on today, I was just looking back at my memory and
the records as well. And it either it kind of go sort
of 85 to 95 and then you don't want to don't want to remember
(20:56):
anything until about 2003. We, we went down to League 1 and
I think it was like the Endsleigh League One or
whatever. And it's sort of that there
really was like we all had season tickets and it was like,
what should we do this Saturday?Should we go and watch Norwich
(21:16):
or should we, I don't know, play?
Play Dodge. Yeah, I.
Mean it's just like it was not agood time then.
Yeah. And I guess that's sort of
behind the scenes things as wellwith the old chairman Robert
Chase that we all wanted out of.Course, I remember that, yeah.
(21:40):
And we, we had, we ended up getting Martin O'Neill as
manager sort of in about 90, I think it was 9596.
There was a clash there with with O'Neill and Chase and
Martin O'Neill wanted to sign Dean Windas and there was
(22:00):
something, I don't know if it was down to wages or the price
tag itself. And there was something that
they clashed with and O'Neill went I'm gone, I'm done.
If you're not letting me manage the team, I'm done.
So he then left, which was like, which was a shame is Mark.
Obviously we know what Martin O'Neill is and as a player and
(22:21):
going into management I think wegot him from Wickham and they he
brought them up. Yeah, so it was.
Like there was a slight buzz that we've got this guy and he
used to play for Norwich as well.
And it was like, right, OK, we need to, we need to be behind
this guy. And if the above him are not
behind him, it's yeah. It was sure, wasn't it from
(22:41):
June, June till December. Yeah, I think he got about 25
games or something. Yeah, 20 games, 19 drew 7, lost
four. Yeah, geez.
That's not a bad record either, is it?
I mean. Straight to so he left on the
17th and 21st. He signed for Leicester.
How you going? Right.
Yeah. What could have been as well
accurate? And then I think a few years
(23:04):
after, didn't Leicester win? Yeah.
Like. A cup, didn't he?
Yeah. Because that was it was. 949495
though Gaz, I mean, you lost Rule Fox.
You lost a cuckoo gun, Sutton Goss Robbins.
(23:24):
Wow, they gone unbelievable. I mean, it's like.
A lot gone. Norwich at the minute, like
we've lost border signs. In all fairness, I would I would
have took him to Porto. I'm glad he's gone.
Yeah. But we've got Josh Sargent, who
I think we may lose, but that's it at the minute.
(23:49):
And we've brought in replacements.
And I'm so, so positive for thisseason, which is, you know,
unlike me in the past few seasons.
But what you know, you can get away with losing one or two.
But like, you've just listed Fox.
Yeah, yeah, criminal. And you're bringing, Yeah.
You're trying to replace them with, you know, people like
(24:12):
Ariak and Bai. Oh, yes, yeah.
Darren Edie. I know Darren Edie is a well,
but John Lutham, John, I love John Newsome.
Yeah. Yeah.
But it was like it was replacements that that were not
replacements. Yeah, yeah, I see what you mean.
(24:32):
I see what you mean. OK.
Well Jonesy, have you? Have you got any more players
mate before we we move on? No, I think that's it.
That's on my list. What's coming up next then,
mate? All right, let's get on to it.
Favourite match? Oh.
Let's get this over and done with.
What is it mate? I'm sure we can all guess.
(24:56):
No surprises. What is it?
I have not got one. I'm going to go quick.
So in no particular order. Actually there is a particular
order. We'll leave the best class, but
first game of the 9293 season away at Arsenal.
Like I say, we finished 18th theday the season before.
(25:18):
Yeah, minutes. We're two nil down.
It's like people are leaving. Here we go.
Bring on Mark Robbins, Bosch, two goals, Dave Phillips, Royal
Fox and you walk away winning 4/2 at Highbridge.
Yeah. Yeah, I, I, I watched the game
this morning, not the whole 90 minutes.
I watched the highlights of thatparticular game.
(25:40):
And Mark Robbins is 4th at Highbury to Chip David Seaman.
Yeah, just so tired about it. It's just like.
Yeah. I mean, yeah, sorry.
Carry on. That was a great start.
Yeah. And then obviously the next
three is VTS Arnhem into Milan, Bayern Munich.
(26:00):
No it shouldn't. You see these live.
Sorry. Did you see these live?
The European games at Cara Rd. I think I went to Bayern Munich
at home. I come in for the Bayern Munich
or Milan. I think it was Bayern Munich.
Right. Yeah, but my dad.
Went to Milan away. I remember him coming back.
(26:24):
He he walked back a bit. I.
Never. I never sit down.
And he bought a shirt back. It's bleeding.
Why? Oh.
Yeah. Of course that happened even
back then, but. Yeah, but it was just, I waited
(26:47):
up for him to come home and it was just he came over all this.
Ah, brilliant. Oh, look at that.
So but yeah, obviously we crashed out in against them but
beat Thess Iron and that was like playing pre season
friendly. We brushed them aside and.
I don't see that one mentioned at all really.
(27:08):
That game? I mean no, but.
Then you look at their team there.
Philip Koku. Good day.
Yeah. Raymond van der Howe.
Wow. Yeah, who?
Else, but yeah, so they had themand then obviously we had Bayern
Munich in the next game. Yes.
Still the only British team thatbeat Bayern Munich at the
(27:33):
Olympic Stadium. Yeah, yeah.
I mean I. This is one of my This is one of
my little prides the programme from Tell.
You what? I love those programmes from
back then like the German. But at the bottom, it's signed
(27:53):
by Franz Beckenbaum. This is, yeah, this is
disgraceful behaviour, Gaz. This is I.
Think he was Hemming or something to do with the club, I
can't remember. But yeah, that's that's the
game. Yeah.
There was his, his volley and I mean, it's just, it's just, it
(28:17):
was just such an incredible time, such an even even like the
newspapers jumping on it like printing badges out from in
areas in Europe. Yeah.
So that that game I remember like I got into football around
that season and the contrast in like European football, like how
(28:37):
different it looked like so dark, like the stands, the
stadiums. It was like what?
Yeah. But yeah, great memories.
And you can still, I've watched the the highlights of that while
ago. They still got them on YouTube
of that game like incredible. And again I see the players for
(28:59):
for buying were were World Cup World Cup players.
Yeah, it's a name 1 low farm Attias.
It's like no low farm Attias against bloody Jeremy Goss.
Yeah. I mean, I love gossip a bit, but
that's a no brainer. Yeah, but I think as a big
(29:20):
memory for me was when I was a kid, I I watched Match of the
Day or a version of Match of theDay before going to school and
it was Norwich against in the Milan at Cairo Road.
And I can remember having my serial watching it and thinking
like this isn't a Premier Leaguegame.
Like what is this? And it was like UEFA Cup.
(29:40):
Yeah, it's side and it wasn't it.
Yeah, it just felt weird. But I what I didn't realise was
kind of like you kind of held out against in the Milan in both
games because Bergkamp scored inthe 80th minute and the 88th in
both ties. So you gave a good go in the
Milan? Yeah, yeah, we did.
(30:01):
But it you know, it's it just wasn't to be.
Was this you're riding that of beaten by Munich?
I think in the Milan were that one step better.
But like you say, we were holding our own and then yeah,
yeah, why? That was incredible.
(30:22):
Because they had Walter Zenger in goal, they had Skilacci who
came on the Vimyank, Bergkamp. They had an incredible team.
Yeah, unbelievable. So right.
You've said Arsenal away at Highbury, you've said the Munich
game. What else have we got?
The last one was when I was mascot this.
(30:45):
Oh, memories, eh? Yeah, so at this or the season
just finished, my boy was mascotfor Norwich against Sheffield
Wednesday. Yeah.
I think you actually beat us. Yeah, you did.
Because he was, end of it. But.
Were you, were you, were you mascot for Wednesday on that
game? Would he?
(31:07):
No, they didn't have shorts big enough so I couldn't go out with
them. But he when he there was 11
mascots and you have to mascot. So it kind of takes this
nowadays the whole buzz of beinga mascot is is kind of gone
(31:27):
because you have to you actuallyphysically pay to be a mascot.
But back then it was because I was a junior Canary.
You your name got put in a hat and it got pulled out.
Oh. Wow.
OK. And I think it was only about
two weeks before the game, they pull it out and tell you what
you've got. And I remember about a month
(31:49):
before they did it, I, I used tohave really bad asthma and I got
really ill and I was suffering with pneumonia.
And I got a phone call or my mumgot a phone call from Norwich
City and they were like, just tolet you know, Gaz's have been
picked out to be mascot for Norwich against Liverpool.
Fuck me. I've never honestly, if ever, if
(32:12):
ever you're real, you up and sayyou're going to be mascot.
Jesus Christ was. I've never recovered so quickly
all my life. It must have been like the build
up to the Rocky Five fight like you do the old sit ups and the
punch bags. And so, yeah, so I was mascot
and it was, it was going to Liverpool on.
(32:36):
I've got the programme in a little frame there.
Oh, those programmes. I love those programmes back
then. I've got, I mean, I've got a big
pile of programmes. Can I collect them?
Yeah, on the 5th of February 94,so do.
You remember much about it, likemeeting players and stuff.
They get I've gone again the whole day.
(32:57):
I mean I remember in the morningI went out and played football
on the road with roommates, fellover, smashed all my knee up and
I've got a stupid plaster on my leg.
So I've I'm the whole day. I think.
The week before, Graham Soonis got sacked from Liverpool and
they replaced him with Roy Evans.
Right. Oh, OK.
Yeah. So, yeah, turn up, meet all the
(33:20):
players, you know, go into the dressing rooms, da, da, da, have
your pictures taken with everyone, everywhere.
And then they were, they said, I, I said is there any chance I
could go in the Liverpool dressing room?
And they said, let me just ask. And this woman went, I think you
might be in luck because if it was Graham soon as they'd tell
you to fuck off if you're a little bored.
(33:45):
Yeah, because it was Roy Evans. Both the doors were open.
I'm in. And it was John Barnes, David
James, Steve Nickel, Nigel Clare, all of them.
And like I said to you, he's allsigned it.
I was going to say yeah. In there with the.
In there with the album, yeah. It was brilliant.
It was, it was so good, so good.And.
(34:08):
And then the game was Tutu. Yeah.
And yeah, it was just brilliant. But then there's a special story
that goes with that. So obviously, Woody, you know,
I'm a big Corinthian collector. Yeah, I do.
He's the figure of Dermot Gallagher, the referee.
Yeah. Is that signed?
(34:29):
So in 2000 at Villa Park he was a special guest and he signed
them all. So I went down to Villa Park
with my dad and saw Dermot Gallagher and I went up.
Now can you sign this yet please?
Brilliant. And I just went, I met you as
I've met you before. And he went, all right, OK.
(34:53):
And I went, yeah, I was mascot for Norwich.
And he went, wait, I went 1994. He went February the 5th, 1994,
two, two. I sent Ryan Gunn off and I was
like, mate, that was, oh, how doyou remember that?
Did he tell you you had a plaster on your knee as well?
That's brilliant. Wow.
(35:14):
I like, I just stood there was like, that was six years ago and
you just told me the score that you sent someone off and the
date. It was unbelievable.
Jeez. Wow.
I mean, when you run into the the dressing room, were they all
suited and booted or were they in their kits ready to go?
How does it work with this sort of stuff?
Massages and music, yeah. Right.
(35:39):
Blue with the yellow screw on lid of Lucas Aid.
I mean other quarter bottles just like that, yeah.
And you're in full kit at this moment as well, right?
Full kit with me Reebok Classicson and the and the stupid fuzzy
(36:01):
hair. That's so you obviously know
Andrew Flack, right from Yeah. So I got, I sent him a picture
of me when I was mascot on the pitch.
So on the pitch there was Ian Rush, John Polston, Dermot
Gallagher and me and the pitcher.
And I said to him, what's the chance of you doing repaints?
(36:23):
And he went, well, I'll go one better and do remodels.
So he done Dermot Gallagher in the.
Oh wow. For refs kit.
That is incredible. And then Ian Rush.
Look at that. Brilliant.
(36:45):
So that's an Ian Rush head on someone else's body.
Right, OK. Like.
With the repainted kit. Oh, look at that.
And then that's never ball kit as well, by the way.
John Polston look at. That detail.
Actually Steve Pops from West Ham.
I was going to say, did they even have a figure of Polston?
(37:08):
No, there was no Norwich playersever made.
Well, it's unbelievable. And he's got the the pose of
their arms beyond their back as well.
And then on top of that, you know what the you know, remember
the micro stars? Yeah, the small.
What? What do we got?
He got the gun that was covered.John Hartson added some hair and
(37:30):
paid me. That is brilliant.
That is so good. 2 Captains. Me referee all lined up.
I think, I think that's sometimes better than a
photograph because you've got like that kind of model of it.
That is incredible, Andy. That's unbelievable.
(37:51):
If you're listening, mate, talk to me just a little bit about
because I love all this sort of stuff, this fly on the wall like
bits of Premier League. What was it like?
Walk because I've never been a mascot.
What was it like walking out of the tunnel like Premier League,
bit of like Liverpool, Norwich, What was it like?
Can you remember? It was mad.
(38:12):
It was mad. Like I said, when when my boy
did it, there was 11 of them. So one was a goalkeeper, 1 was a
captain and then the other nine don't know who you're walking
out with. You're letting you.
Yeah, oh man. And a.
Player takes your arm and you walk off.
With no personal element is there?
I'm out with the captain and I came out with John Paulston and,
(38:33):
you know, you think you have a laugh with your mates, say,
shall I fall over for a laugh? And it's like, no, don't be a
twat. Like most important moment of
your life as a kid. Hear the music And it's like,
it's just like the Coliseum. It's like, Oh my God.
(38:54):
Yeah. My, my dad was sitting next to
me, granddad and my mum was overthe other side and you run out,
you run out onto the pitch and you kick the ball around with
the players and have all your photos taken and then you go
into one of the goals and take apenalty against Brian Gunn in.
In all fairness, the next time II have a bump into him, I am
(39:16):
going to say to him, you let everybody's bowling apart from
mine. You ruined my experience.
You can't believe it. I couldn't believe.
It but mate, I I still have I I still have talked about on the
other episodes of Neville southpaw.
A charity shootout wouldn't let any kids score save mine pay a
(39:40):
fiver to take a penalty and he was on his knees as well.
He just, he was just like save, save, save, save.
Yeah, it's what made them the Colossus goalkeeper as they are
today, isn't it? So.
Gaz was that game on Match of the Day?
Have you been able to find anything on that?
It was on Match of the Day, and I think you literally see me
like that. Gone.
(40:00):
Yeah, I'm sorry, remember. Like that, you watch old, you
watch old Match of the Day and you see them all come out
tunnel, don't you? And yeah, things run out.
So I was just wondering, yeah, if there's any footage.
Yeah, OK. I'd have to.
I'd have to. I remember, I think it was John
Barnes, punch me in the stomach, which, you know, fair play.
(40:23):
The size of me when I was a kid,I'd a punch that was well.
That is brilliant. I love that where that I've,
I've, I've fallen down a nostalgic tunnel here.
So where are we now where we've done memorable players,
memorable matches? Are there any more matches Gaz?
No, no. It's definitely. 96 to 2001.
(40:50):
All right, let's get on to the next one.
Favourite kits? We love this one, don't we
Woody? Where we go, We love kit talk.
We do Jones, Ian, Let's just talk about what we're wearing
today. So guys, what are you wearing,
mate? Because you've already shown us
this beautiful ensemble, but show it, show the viewers.
What are we 9 about 9495? Yeah, Mitre.
(41:15):
Oh, get the badge in. Those.
I mean, I've got some. Get the badge.
Badges. There's something different,
there's something so special by having badges.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Unbelievable and.
The fonts as well look at 802080. 1080.
(41:35):
So is that your, I mean, becauseI've got the same one on as you
today. We we didn't discuss wardrobes.
So we've had a little bit of a malfunction.
But at the same time we look part of the squad mate, which I
really like. So 9495 kit.
What do you think of this particular kit in terms of
Norwich kind of history and stuff?
(41:56):
This one we're wearing. Yeah.
I mean, there wasn't sort of much thought into it.
No, you're going from going fromthe previous.
From the the egg and Cray, the scrambled egg, the bird shit,
whatever you want to call it to this.
Bird shit. Obviously got the it's got the
(42:20):
badges embossed in it. Well, this is what I noticed
before we went on Air Mate is that it's almost like the mitre
arrows look a little bit bruisedBanana Y, don't they?
Yeah. And then there is the badge as
well. Yeah, so we've got the.
And yeah, the mitre taping on the sleeve, though, is just
glorious, isn't it? Yeah, it is, but obviously
(42:47):
wiping sweat. Bit of a cut eyebrow.
Eyebrows. But obviously Norwich's kit this
season just released. I haven't got it yet.
I'll wait for the away kit, the third kit, the 18th kit or
whatever to come out. Yeah, but kind of they're done a
little odd to this kit. So yeah, I was.
(43:07):
When I saw the new release, I was just like, that's a
throwback. It's a strange throwback
considering. Yeah.
I mean, what happened in that inthat 9495 season?
These favourite shirts and then turn around but the one that
released this season, it's an absolute beauty.
It goes back to 94. It's amazing do.
You think what you want to do? Yeah.
(43:27):
Do you think this will see a resurgence then in the vintage
market because of the new one this season, do you reckon?
Yeah, yeah, because that pony, we were sponsored by Pony in the
late 90s. Yeah.
That now I think it's a certain amount of years, 30 years, is it
or something? 30 years, 50 years of pony.
(43:50):
So they've started to re releasethe shirts.
Yeah. I think Tottenham had done it as
well because they were sponsoredby Pony.
Yeah, yeah, a few teams have done it, haven't they?
Yeah, a lot of the pony, yeah. I don't understand it.
I realised what pony stood for. What's that?
No. Pride of New York, OH.
(44:14):
Why didn't I know that? That's weird.
That is, I never know unless I've read something wrong and
I've read it by mistake. But.
We might. I think we've just got a first
here for the the Premier League podcast.
Jamie, we now know what Pony stands for.
Thanks, Gaz. There.
You go. I mean talking about I mean you
(44:35):
got to say your was your first kits around the the ASICS 1989
ones is that we was they're yourfirst there we.
Go don't. Don't pull out an ASICS kit
guys. Pull that.
Pull that one out as well from your.
Boy, there you go. Yeah, and your mate?
Dirts. Yeah, well done, Jake.
Beautiful shirt. Oh yes.
(44:57):
Always. Am I to a Tim Sherwood?
That one? Yes.
Is that Tim Sherwood? Yeah.
So that's my that was my first ever shirt.
Wait. Did you have Culverhouse playing
for you that era as well? Was that a bit before him?
It might have been about. Yeah, I think it was, yeah.
(45:18):
Yeah, because that's a beautiful.
You had that kit for how many seasons?
Probably about. I think it was about 88. 92 So
yeah, about three seasons I think.
You rivalled Barcelona with their maber.
This was my first shirt, which is very.
Shirt first one though. Because the away was just white
(45:40):
with. White with green.
Green Yeah, yeah. Which is my favourite ever shirt
but I don't know. OK but this is mine from 1990
say yeah. Which is worrying because I'm
now 42 and I can still fit in it.
So it was like a night evening as a kid.
(46:02):
Yeah. Give us a little bit of a closed
up on this one, guys. Put it to the screen.
May I want to see the detail? Let's let's talk a bit of care.
Yeah. Have you ever?
Have you ever? Tried to remake that one at all
or? But whenever the all the rumour
mill comes out of, oh, this season's kit, everyone is like
(46:23):
this, this. Yeah, it's a strange one,
considering that this season's is a yeah throwback to the
relegation kit. Yeah.
Yeah, which is doesn't strange. Yeah, you would think that would
give that one a go. Yeah.
But alongside this I also have look at that the very short
(46:49):
shorts. They remind me of my PE shorts.
Like if you forgot your kit, go in the bottom of like the little
bit and rummage around the lost and found.
Oh my word. Wow.
Love the yellow and white. Yeah, yeah.
So that's the full kit you've got there.
(47:10):
That's incredible. From 1990.
Right. Do what's as well.
OK, so no me a league, what elsein terms of like the other kits
(47:30):
that you've got? Then give us a little bit of a
show and tell from your other favourites then mate.
Is that your favourite kit? That one.
That is your favourite. That's your favourite one?
OK. Yeah, yeah.
No, no, it's not. No, that's my all right.
That's my third favourite kit. Oh, OK.
Yeah, wow, that's dropped from your favourite to 3rd.
(47:53):
Because my head's just just spunaround.
I do the same thing with my kitsas well.
Yeah. What else have we got mate?
2nd favourite. Yeah.
The away. Right, OK.
No, the away version. That is the Navy blue.
That's Oh, no. That one, yes, OK.
(48:14):
Yeah, that's pretty decent, isn't it?
What? Would you call that like?
Tartan. Nice.
Yeah, the annoying. Thing is my 3 favourite shirts
one's the a six, number two is blue and my favourite my
favourite is blue. What was the whole kit of that
(48:37):
for that away kit you had just aminute ago?
The tartan kind of colour? What was the shorts and socks of
that? White shorts and blue socks.
Oh what weird combo. Yeah.
I think we spoke about it on that when we did the 9293 Kits
episode. Did did Norwich actually wear
(48:58):
their away kits much? The thing like when you think
about it, it's only Watford and potentially Wolves and Oxford.
They're the only real. Clubs.
Yeah, yeah. So I mean, we could could have
just had one kit and then when we played them just say should
we wear our training kit or should we wear bibs, skins?
(49:19):
Because I think that is it, the 90, the Ribera one, the 92 to
94, the away one, the purple with a purple slit.
I think we give that a thumbs down, didn't we Woody?
We did that one, yeah. Oh, I know the signatures are.
Look at that. That Stein by the whole squad.
Oh. Mike Walker, you can see.
(49:39):
You're just pulling all this out, guys, as though this is
like, oh, oh, yeah. And by the way, I've got another
one of these. Like this is incredible.
Look at that. Is that the grail?
That's no my seats are the grail.
Seats are the grail. Yep.
(50:00):
But then this I met Jeremy Goss and he signed it for me and it's
just. Was that the same evening you
sniffed his boots or? This.
That was a stalker day, actually.
I would love to get my hands on that shirt, but that shirt is so
expensive. So I sort of like, yeah.
(50:22):
Yeah, it's. Out of my price range, that
shirt. Yeah.
Yeah, so this one is my favourite and it's a lot of a
lot of Norwich fans favourite. That's why the wafer, the wafer
on the badge above the badge, isn't it?
Yeah, OK, Yeah, cool. Look at that.
That is lush than that. So we wore this against Vitas
(50:43):
Arnhem and then I think we wore it against someone like Torquay
in the cup maybe, or something like that.
I think we, we, that's the only time we ever wore.
It of course because Vitas Arnhem are black and yellow,
aren't they? Vitas Arnhem.
A little nod to Andrew Flack again.
(51:04):
Oh, is that koku? Yeah.
This is unreal. Yeah, so cool.
He did Flackers did me a Matthias as well.
Yeah, it is incredible because it's a great way of living
through, like it's having them custom and repainted the
(51:26):
memories attached to that figure.
It beats a photo. Oh, sharp woody, Sharp woody.
Look at the screen. Is that a koku?
Right. Who would?
Who's a repaint from a Wimbledonkit?
And then Chris Sutton, who's a repaint from a Blackburn kit,
(51:47):
Bull Fox, who's a repaint of a Tottenham kit?
And then Mike Walker. Like who's a 3D?
Oh. Wow.
Someone 3D printed that and Flackers repainted the whole
lot. And then one of the other boys
in the Corinthian. Correct.
(52:08):
Wow. Corinthian collectors club on
Facebook. No plug made a made a box.
I don't know this chap's name unfortunately, so forgive me if
you're listening, but this is the Wolves fan, isn't he?
Tim Griffiths. Tim Griffiths, OK, what
unbelievable talent, by the way.Corinthians as a kid and I was,
(52:29):
you know, so far gone and only recently obviously doing the pod
and, you know, things like that, joining groups and stuff.
The the amount of talent and Corinthian, I had no idea the
repaints, the remodels. It's amazing what these some
people can do. Yeah, shout out something
because yeah, that works. In yeah, I don't want to do
(52:51):
Disney here, but I was shown a whole new world at that Essex
Football fair. It was unbelievable.
And you know what? I now talk nothing but blister
packs thanks to gas and colleagues.
Right? Oh my God, we've taken such a
side one. But what a glorious night step
we've taken. Where are we Jonesy?
Bring me back to life mate. So.
(53:11):
I just wanted to talk to her. I don't know if you know gas.
So when you went from Pioneer in99, you went from 99 two
thousand. You went to Alexander, right?
Alexandra, remember. Oh, Oh yeah, yeah.
Who are they? No, no, because I was doing some
research, right? So this remember the kit they
brought out with No. So you went for pony and then
(53:33):
you've got the next season. Nothing.
I love that kit though. Yeah, it's like a score draw.
Yeah. So you've got the pony, Who's
that 99 two thousand season? You've got no manufacturer.
I don't know. You're looking at archive tell
you what it was, what was going on.
(53:53):
It was. It was done was designed
designed by someone called BruceOldfield.
Yeah, that's why I was trying todo some research, like after
Pony. I couldn't because there's not,
there's no manufacturer, is there?
No, that's very true. Yeah, and that's what I thought
about that away shirt. Yeah, look, there's nothing but
(54:14):
what I couldn't going back to that photo I'll put up.
So you had Pony that season and then the next season it's just
like a score drawer. No manufacturer, same kit,
Alexandra. Like it's weird.
Yeah. No, to be honest, I never, never
even clicked because yeah, yeah. How good does that look in long
(54:36):
sleeve by the way? That white kit, the blue like.
We love. We love long sleeves.
From an ipbridge kit. Any kit in long sleeve?
It's true I. Feel what he's like with
Sheffield United, don't you? Yeah, very much so.
I mean, you, you did something incredibly wrong on the 9293 kit
reveal and you blended a Sheffield United kit into a
(54:58):
Sheffield Wednesday kit, which is unforgivable.
Jamesy, just we're going to remember that.
What's your just before hang on Jamie, I'm so sorry mate.
I just want to know I've I'm nerding out here.
What's your what's your worst kit for Norwich in the 90s?
(55:20):
Be honest. It could be a goalkeeper kit, It
could be an away kit or 1/3. Probably this.
Coleman's. Just.
Yeah, it it's yeah. This is nice but but just not
meaningful. Yeah, OK, very perfectly put,
(55:43):
not. I don't know.
Do kits need to be complicated? Not really.
Thank you. Have you got that mitre?
Is the 9697 away the red mitre one?
Did you ever have that one with like the that one?
What are your thoughts? On that one.
I loved it. Yeah.
(56:04):
Yeah, I've got, I've got the full kit of this.
I've got the shorts and T-shirts.
Yeah, it's nice and. I'll remember because my
birthday is August the 17th, so it's always around the first
game of the season. Oh nice, so that was my birthday
present every year was which was.
Like kit release, but yeah. Yeah, and I remember getting
(56:27):
this and I put the full kit on and me and mum went to the
chroma on the down on the on thecoast.
Yeah, and I. Aged the sea wall and I plucked
all of it back to memories. Did it.
As soon as I think of this kit, I remember being in Chroma
thinking she's going to kill me.Not not being funny mate, but
(56:51):
all of your big Norwich moments of like wearing a kit, going as
a mascot, you've always done something daft beforehand.
Is there a trend coming on here or?
Right? Well that's awesome.
What's next mate? All right, favourite goal?
(57:12):
Favourite goal? There's there's three goals and
they're by one person. Simple as that.
Jeremy. Yeah, Jeremy.
Goss, there's a quick one. Is, is, is the Rocket against
Leeds one of them? Yeah, yeah.
Oh, do I remember this one. Making Boa's goal.
(57:35):
Yes. Better than that.
Yeah. Better than your Boa.
I was looking at some Goss goals.
I think that was that was Fox again, weren't it?
Fox nipping down the left, pinging it in.
Yeah, yeah. Goss turns up out of nowhere and
just hits it. Yeah.
So yes, favourite goal you've got Bayern Munich volley.
(57:56):
Yeah. Got the Leeds volley and then
you've also got Jonesy. I'm sorry Jeremy got in the last
game. Yeah, I knew that was Calvin.
At the cop, yes. And I've watched it, all right.
And I sat there. What the fuck?
(58:18):
What is David Jackie done through his hair first?
He's got like this big red sweepcoming down.
Oh. Goodness.
Then I forgot but it's I can picture the programme as well,
the programme of the ticket stub, the cops last stand.
And then one of my friends actually gave me this photo the
other day which I love. I just need to work out how to
(58:40):
display it. Wow.
Goodness me. What?
That is good for. And, and straight away what,
what I, what I noticed is like, oh, I know that professional
footballers, but you've got Don Hutchinson, Ronnie Whelan, Rob
(59:03):
Jones, Julie Dicks I love, but they're not like stand out
names. No, it's a weird transition
that. But then if you look above the
goal, just the fans. So for the listeners, Gazza's
holding up a poster of the last match at the the original cop.
(59:29):
Look at. That.
So you're going to get that framed?
Yeah. I'll get that framed, yeah.
Yeah, what a. What a rightly so, rightly so.
Brilliant, just just brilliant. And yeah, Norwich beat Liverpool
One now what? A what that to spoil?
One of the most iconic, yeah, soLiam Crooks free Ian Crooks free
(59:54):
kick doesn't feature at all against Forest then, can it?
Beautiful technique. The Curve and Andy Grey
commentary, I mean, yeah. I guess I'm too.
Goss blindsided. You're, you are a goth super fan
and I'm absolutely loving it mate.
(01:00:15):
I'm not going to lie, it is brilliant, right?
James? Do you, do you have a goal in
mind other than it was at the Leeds goal?
Yeah, the Leeds goal, that's what I remember.
And when you brought up the one against Liverpool as well.
Yeah. Yeah, shit.
Time to be a Liverpool fan, I tell you.
I know. Woof.
Disappointment. All right, OK, let's get on to
(01:00:37):
the last one, my 5 aside. Oh, that's interesting.
What have you got mate? There's only one goalkeeper
because during the 90s we had Brian Go Who?
Is a Judas? Yeah, of course, yes.
(01:01:00):
Robert Green, that's the only goalkeepers.
How was Rob Green late 90s Was he?
Green was about 99, so right in the.
End right, OK. So in goal, Brian Gunn, Brian
Gunn, he's got nowhere. You don't care.
(01:01:21):
Yes, Yep, excellent. When he used to run out, so he
used to run out, he used to run out and all the and then soon.
So we've got obviously 2 ends. One's the River End, one's the
Barclay end. The Barclay end is where all the
noise is. And we always used to run to the
Barclay and the fans would see him oh, all the way along, run
(01:01:46):
all the way along. So he's bad down.
Oh, run up and go ahead of the crossbar.
What a legend and. Then and then turn round, pull
his shorts out of his ass. Every time people if people
start sitting there going what how many times he'd pull his
(01:02:11):
pants out of his ass. Oh, I love it.
Wicked, right? Easy goalie then.
What else? Who've we got?
There's only one defender, whichthat was probably the hardest
bit because I wanted like all midfielders, but you can't so
oh. You can, this is your fiver side
(01:02:32):
mate. I'm a defender myself, so you've
got to have one in there. Fine, fine.
Doubt that. Yeah.
Mark Bowen. Just yeah, I forget Bowen.
Yeah. I can't remember how many
appearances he had, but yeah, mega, he was brilliant.
Really, really good player. Not a centre back, but so good
(01:02:59):
on the ball, tackling, releasingit.
Brilliant, Such a brilliant, yeah.
Really did like him. I think he set up one of the
goals for you in Europe as well.I think it was his gross yeah.
Goss volley maybe? Yeah, Yeah, I remember.
Welsh legend. Welsh legend, yes, I think.
Is he something to do with Walesnow?
(01:03:20):
Do you like this just? He's what is he now?
Or is he? Is he hovering around with Mark
Hughes somewhere? No.
In June he joined Forest Green Rovers as director of football
with Savage. It's still the Welsh connection
then. Yeah, he was at.
(01:03:40):
He left Reading because he was head of football operations in
Reading. Reading left in 20 last year.
And yeah, he's joined Forest Green as director of football.
There you go. OK, so Brian Gunn, Bowen.
Bowen. Yep.
Jeremy Goss I'm as we just move on next one because I've creamed
all over hooker back lot so yeah.
(01:04:08):
Wow. All right, here we go next.
That's the that's the title for the episode, by the way.
Over Jeremy Goss. I'll have to take the explicit
box when I'm uploading. Yeah.
Oh, sorry. I've got a there.
(01:04:30):
Carry on. 80 royal fox and Darren 80 and I went down and
he. Yeah.
Just I'm wearing his shirt. Versatile player as well.
He's he was a star player and he's still, he's still heavily
involved in the club now. Which, yeah.
We love and yeah. But think about five sides.
(01:04:51):
You need someone that could do abit of both, just in case.
Bowen's flagging. So yeah, good shout, good shout.
And Chris Sutton up top. Was there any other contest
about top? Up top was who do I have F and a
cuckoo. Oh F and a cuckoo.
(01:05:12):
We've got any Subs. Are these, are these your Subs
or or you're just who you're thinking about?
I can give you my 12 Subs. Right, You're allowed five Subs,
right? I'm.
Going to make these into graphics mate.
Or no, both. OK, right.
(01:05:34):
You're allowed 12 for Jonesy. No, you're allowed three Subs
and we you can pick an assistantmanager, which is what we did
Jonesy, right. Or was that just me picking big
wrong? I think it was your shoe, wasn't
it? No, I was just a bit greedy.
I think I just wanted sole control, didn't I?
Yeah. So on control, where do we go?
(01:05:56):
I'm going to pick, I'm going to pick out.
I'm going to go outside. The whole thing seems to be
between 9294 that I've spoken about and could the rest.
It was a bit dark. So my Subs will be outside of
the 9294. That's cool.
We'll go, OK. So my first sub up top will be
Big Ewan Roberts. Oh yes.
Take your teeth out. Welsh legend.
(01:06:19):
What? I'll tell you what one of the
nicest, nicest guys you'll ever meet in your life.
Unbelief. Yeah, OK.
Seems it. And back when, back when we
signed him, I remember you couldgo up to the training ground
colony and you could go and watch him train.
And the, the day we signed him, he was, he'd been unveiled and
(01:06:39):
he was training the next day. So I said to dad, I was like,
please take me up there. We'll go and watch him get some
autograph that and we went up there and someone passed this
ball to Uran Roberts and he controlled it and he went to
pass it and as he went to pass it he fell on the ball and it
was like, Oh my, just spent like£1,000,000 on this guy from
Wolves and he terrible. Yeah.
(01:07:03):
All I had in my head was that vision of this gazer with no all
in over the ball. But then absolute legend and
yeah, he, yeah. And such a nice bloke.
My dad does walking football andhe does it up at an area called
(01:07:25):
The Nest, which is with like theNorwich community.
And Ewan Roberts came up, I think it was last year, the year
before, and he wanted to just sort of join in and, and do it.
And dad told me he was coming. So I went up with a shirt to get
him to signing. Just like he was, he was over
the moon to be involved in like walking football.
(01:07:48):
Yeah, that was that was that wasalmost as good as seeing my son
run out on Carroll Rd last season was to see my dad play
walking football with Ewan Roberts.
He was like. Love that.
Yeah, love it. OK, right.
He's on the bench then. Go on, Ewan.
Second one, Woody, I'm sorry butI'm not sure if I am sorry or
(01:08:09):
not, I can't remember how. Carl Bradshaw.
OK. Was it when?
Yeah, Yeah, he was. Yeah.
Mate, I have never, apart from like Stuart Pierce and Julian
Dicks, I have never been so scared to watch a footballer.
He was psycho, he was crazy. Yeah.
(01:08:33):
Teenage he did not back down from anything and he and that's
what I love. I love tackles, I love going, I
love, I love taking my wiping myboy out when playing in the
garden, I love playing vets football, I love watching and
that's what football is. Yeah.
All's there to be won. You got to go and win it of.
(01:08:55):
Course it is. Jesus Christ, he used to scare
me. But all right, so he's your
like, reserve then when things are a bit over, you're checking
on Bradshaw. Yeah, yeah.
It's a bit of a strong bench you've got here at the moment.
Because I'm scared. What more Craig?
(01:09:17):
Who's that? Sorry.
Craig Fleming. Oh, OK.
Craig Fleming. We signed him from Oldham.
Yeah. And he, I can't remember where
it was, but it's 97 I think. And yeah, we, we'd signed him.
He was brilliant. He ended up linking up.
(01:09:37):
We had Fleming and Malky Mackay at centre back.
Yeah. That was the year we got to the
playoffs and then didn't make itand then ended up going on.
But yeah, they were brilliant parts.
But anyway, we signed him and hewas brilliant.
He was solid, a solid centre back and he obviously had
Premier League experience as well and he took no shit again.
(01:09:59):
He was he, he ended up getting atestimonial at Norwich because
he'd been there for 10 years obviously.
And but he was just brilliant. He was, yeah, a nice guy, a
scary guy, a proper centre back would just go in for any
tackles. Love it.
And I can't, I think it was about 10 years ago, me and one
(01:10:20):
of my best mates who actually lives in Ipswich, All his mates
were Ipswich fans and all my mates are Norwich fans.
And on his stag do I went and I was the only Norwich person
there. So I was like giving it all a
big and that and we turned roundand pissed up we said why don't
we have a football match? You bring a load of Ipswich
(01:10:41):
players, Ipswich fans, I'll bring a load of Norwich fans.
Yeah brilliant. So we ended up hiring Kara Rd
out and we put a charity game out.
We raised money for Great OrmondSt and Canterbury Search.
I think we got about just under 5 grand.
We raised wow. What we did is we had he got
Ipswich kits, I got Norwich kitsand we played at Kara Rd
Brilliant. And I said, why don't we try and
(01:11:03):
get some ex players? So he went yeah, my mate Tom,
yeah, brilliant. So he ended up getting Fabian
Willness. Yes.
And I ended up my boss is my boss's sister was best friends
with Craig Fleming's wife or something like that.
So I managed to get in contact with Craig Fleming and I got in,
(01:11:25):
but in the build up in the I wasringing him and I was like hi
Craig. Yeah, just just want to double
check that you're you're you're still all right to play in this
charity game. He was like, I might have to
give it a miss. I was like, oh, you're kidding
me, really. I went the other team, they've
got Fabian Wellness and he went, they've got who?
(01:11:47):
I went Fabian Wellness. He went, right.
I'm going to go sharpen me fucking studs up now.
Oh, wow. So he was like, yes.
And then on the match day, Fabian Willness pulled out and
Craig Flemington. I've never seen anyone turn.
(01:12:08):
It was like a vets football gamewhen we turn up and it's like
we're hanging out of our arse. Fleming turned up right and he
come up and he went are you guys?
And yeah, he went right. Just to let you know, I've got
arthritis in me back, my left knees playing up and I'm hanging
out of my arse. So you're probably only getting
about 3 minutes out of me. I went, no way you're starting
(01:12:30):
mate, you're the one that's going to run this.
I've put them in centric field, right?
Have you ever played with professional footballers?
No, no, no. Oh.
My God, it don't even, it don't matter if they're 70 years old
when they get the ball, it's just like, it's just.
There's a difference. 40 yards, short passage, turning it, turn
(01:12:51):
it, it was unbelievable. Absolutely and he was knackered,
absolutely knackered at the end of it.
But it was just what an experience to play on Carroll Rd
with Craig Fleming, and so he's going in my team as well.
Well, a worthy addition mate. Are you are you going to pick a
coach or are you going to do what Jones is doing and go for
(01:13:12):
glory all on your own? Gary Megson.
No, can't. You're going.
You're going rogue. Megson was there twice as well.
(01:13:33):
That's bad, isn't it? Yeah, that's what I mean.
Mike Walker there. No one else is there.
Mike Walker. OK, fine.
Love it. Because he came back terrible.
Mike Walker, there we go. From the born in same from the
same area of Wales as me. Colin Bay.
(01:13:54):
Mike Walker. There's a distinct link between
Norwich and Wales today I've gathered.
Wow, OK, right. And finally, what was your kit
of choice that your team are going to wear for the Fiver
side? It's got to be the egg and
Crest. The egg and Crest.
Yeah, good choice. I'm glad you've chosen that one,
mate, because that's the best one.
(01:14:15):
Yeah. Wicked happy with that, Jamie.
Ecstatic, love it, I really enjoyed it.
Yeah, wicked, right. Obviously for the viewers from
YouTube, you were you are going to see this line up for the
fiver side, Gaz. That was absolutely tremendous,
mate. And I feel like I'm a little bit
more closer to Norwich as a football team thanks to you.
(01:14:38):
And even I've relived some beautiful moments through your
passion and everything for the club and just your memories,
mate. So thank you so much, really
enjoyed it. I took up a lot of time but once
I get go can't stop. Yeah, yeah, the the listeners.

beautiful stuff in your in your man cave and and everything that
we want to talk about. 90s isn'tit Jamesy?
Yeah, yeah. Absolutely.
So that was time added on Norwich City FC.
