(00:01):
This is simply stunning. Hello and welcome to another
bumper size edition of that 90s Premier League podcast.

(00:21):
Summer edition for you. Winter edition for me, isn't it?
But we're here to talk about preseason, aren't we?
How are you mate? Yeah, very well mate, yeah, it's
it's a bit odd isn't it? Like you're in like the winter
season, I'm in the summer season.
I suppose it doesn't does it feel like pre season to you when
you're living in cold climate? I.
Think all year is pre season forme mate.
We're so far removed from football.

(00:43):
The Premier League like 6 monthslater.
Oh mate, even like I was discussing with some of the
other day, they like the A league has the longest preseason
in world football like. Can't be dealing with that.
I think it finished in. When did it finish?
March and it's back in October or something like that, I don't
know. Yeah, I think like the the whole
painful thing of preseason is the weight.

(01:05):
Like it's good you see the players go back to train and
you're like, thank God for that, some football on the telly and
then you will watch anything related to football just to fill
that void over the. Summer, like you've had it, like
obviously it's a bit better whenyou have international
tournaments. Like you've had the Women's
World Cup, you had the, what wasit?

(01:27):
FIFA Club World Cup of the Universe, what the, or something
like that as well. Yeah, yeah.
Didn't watch that so. That was like 1 long episode of
Glee. Like it was so over the top.
It was. Ridiculous.
I got I got a free, I got a freetrial for that, for the channel,
for that thing. And I think I watched one game
and I was just like cancel. Yeah, I'm not.

(01:48):
Yeah, I'm not interested. Yeah I watched Juventus against
oh if it might have been a Moroccan side, I can't remember
their name but watched it and itwas like watching paint dry.
So yeah, pre season. Bring it back, bring back the
season. This is a good fire starter of
an episode mate. What episode are we on now?
2000, No 19. 2000 I wish I'd be well good episode 19 remember

(02:16):
the. First one.
Yeah, because I remember, I remember talking to you about
it, though, when we sat down andwe were like, right, Should we
do half an hour? Should we do 40 minutes?
We're still talking. No change.
You go fast, you go fast. Yeah.
And here we are. Here we are.
So yeah, we're going to touch onpre season friendlies, aren't
we? It's another one where like, we

(02:39):
go away, do our research and it's just down the rabbit hole,
isn't it? And you just kind of go, go.
I've got to stop here because this is getting out of control.
Yeah, picked out the best, Yeah, basically once we've got
programmes over, haven't we? Yeah, and also, we would be in
danger of doing that 90s preseason podcast if we carried
on with all of our research because it is such a rabbit

(03:00):
hole. But it's so awesome because I
don't know about you, James, butwhenever I do my research,
right, so I have my McDonald's coffee, I have my little, I have
my clipboard, right? I have my iPad, peace and quiet.
I'm writing down all of my stuff.
And then I then go Jonesy vote no, this one.
And I sound like Homer Simpson, like laugh or whatever.

(03:23):
But yeah, it is good. It is good, mate.
And and thank you, by the way, to a lot of the listeners who
have been sending us feedback onthe episodes saying I'm
listening to on holiday, I'm on the holiday bed.
I'm listening to your podcast because I know Gaz has obviously
roped his dad into the Norwich time added on episode.

(03:45):
And did you know what his dad said about the Norwich episode?
What did he say? He went to the San Sierra
obviously, didn't he, to watch Norwich in the Milan for the
away from cup. So he bought back a scarf and
things for guys because obviously guys didn't go.
But not only did he bring it back, he swapped it with an in

(04:06):
the Milan fan at the San Sierra. He gave them Norwich.
So somewhere some Milan residenthas a Norwich City scarf or
pendant in their house. How cool is that?
That's cool, I like that. Yeah, well, that was nice.
That was heartwarming. So thanks guys.
But yeah, over to you, Jonesy. What are we doing, mate?

(04:27):
What are we doing? Yeah.
So we're just going to go through a couple of tournaments
that way. Just touch on, yeah, pretty much
what we've researched and yeah, just talk all things pre season,
our memories, games we went to things like that only.
Were you? Was Minnie Jonesy a fan of
preseason? Did you go to many personally?

(04:49):
Not many. I mean, I guess we can get on to
what what I wore, what I'm wearing.
So I'm wearing a re release Colwyn Bay FC.
I think it's 9293. Yeah, Heim shirt looks.
Very wet pammy. Yeah, was originally Umbro, but

(05:09):
obviously I haven't got the Umbro, but that's all right.
Show me the sleeves. It's yeah.
Do you know like a Oh, that's. A good sleeve.
Yeah, sorry, reason I'm wearing this is just, yeah, back in
1995, I think, August 95, young Jonesy saw in the local
newspaper that Liverpool were coming to town, got excited.

(05:32):
Oh, can't wait. So the date was actually August
the 8th. 1995 was your. Enthusiasm a bit more than what
you've just said then. Yes, I know, but then I was
pretty clued on to obviously getting into football and then
you see Liverpool, Liverpool 11.Oh, hang on.
Yeah, you know what I mean. Yeah, I hate that phrase.

(05:57):
And I'm like Liverpool 11. I must be a misprint in the
newspaper. Went on to Teletexton and things
because you could look for pre season friendlies back then and
then. So I was like, yeah, Liverpool
11. OK, cool.
So I went down. Yeah.
Apparently it's from research. 700 people attended the game
area's park because an alien Rd.This wasn't ready.
The Liverpool side featured players like Tony Warner, Phil

(06:19):
Chanak, Lee Jones, a young JamieCarragher.
Oh, wow. Yeah.
So the game was 11 apparently, says Lee Trundle.
But I don't remember Lee Trundle.
I don't know if he was in the Liverpool Youths side or
something, but you know on the call website it says Lee Trundle
was there. So yeah, Neil Rigby scored for
Colin Bay and Phil Channock equalised for Liverpool.
So yeah. So yeah, who was who was at the

(06:41):
helm at Liverpool at that point?Roy Evans.
Roy Evans? Yeah.
Was he there? No.
Can you remember reserve team? No.
See, this is it's just a mashed up resume.
Yeah, I just don't get this at all, mate, because right, I'm
like you whenever I used to watch Sky Sports News and the
ticker sort of tape at the bottom and it'd be like
preseason friendly and it would be like Cole is.

(07:02):
How do you pronounce it? Sorry, Cole.
Win Bay. Carl Win Bay, Yeah.
Carl Win Bay versus Liverpool and you'd be like, Oh my God,
like, I can't believe it. Like, like Jurgen Klopp's going
to be in Cole. Win Bay.
They're like, no, it's a Liverpool 11 and it will be the
youth team manager and the selection of children that go
along for the game. Yes, go to give minutes.

(07:26):
But they can play like 2 games in a day, can't they say 1
Liverpool team could be playing like PSV away somewhere?
Yeah, like Singapore and then the Liverpool 11 will be playing
in Colwyn Bay. And I just.
I find that odd, but there you go.
Yeah, a good day out, though. Preseason.
Preseason. What are you wearing?
I've gone Tangerine Dream this week.

(07:47):
May. I'm paying homage to my
Sheffield Wednesday preseason with the oh, right, we use this
over so many seasons. I would say this is 96 to 98
away. Yeah.
King, The King. I like it.
Very thermal, very thick. It's kind of like your nan's

(08:07):
jumper from Marks and Spencer's that doesn't have sleeves.
It's very nice you like this kitthough, right?
I do, yeah. Is that the one they re released
a few years ago like. A last season, yeah.
Last season's away kit, yeah. So it's very similar.
Obviously the granddad collars quite nice on this one.
But yeah, I think it was just because my fond memories of this

(08:28):
kit was kind of marked Pembridgein the middle of the park for
Sheffield Wednesday. And he always used to wear
absolutely massive football shirts because obviously back
then I think the kit man kind ofgave everyone excel and just
told them to shut up and get on with it.
Yeah. Which is what a lot of match
warns you'll find to be excels and what have you.
But yeah, I wasn't a big fan of it as a as a kid, but it's kind

(08:50):
of grown on me slowly. Excellent.
All right, let's try to get on to Stat of the Week.
Yeah, let's do it, Let's do it. What have we got?
I always mute my mic every time that glorious music comes on

(09:12):
because I kind of want to sing along to it.
But I'm always doing that, by the way, every week.
But I need to tell you this, when that music comes on, I'm
always going. Next episode I'm going to
unmute. Right, nice spat of the week.
We are talking preseason friendlies, which normally are

(09:34):
at the end of no Well, you'll have the end of the previous
season or just before the new season, right Jonesy?
Yes, correct. What about mid season
tournaments though? Jonesy?
Did you know these existed? Because I didn't and I shocked
myself. So I found, having fallen down

(09:58):
the rabbit hole we were talking earlier, the Ferrucci Trophy,
which was the in the Milan sponsor in 1993.
Yes, yes. Do you recall they had a mid
season tournament at White Hart Lane with Tottenham and Real
Madrid? Yes, is this.

(10:20):
I don't want to spoil your step, but yeah, go on.
So it wasn't, I wouldn't say midseason, but I, I had to Fact
Check this because I thought didthe 9293 season really end
before April? I thought it can't of because
they always tend to go to May, don't they?
And it did so on the 27th of April 1993.

(10:43):
Tottenham Hotspur into Milan andReal Madrid played a three round
Robin tournament. The matches consisted of 45
minutes each. I was going to say it was in the
4545 minute games. Yeah, what is the point?
Yeah, extra time and penalties if it was a draw.

(11:04):
And yeah, I mean, that was played on the 27th of April.
So I looked and I checked and I thought, OK, so why would
Tottenham be doing that? And I checked Arsenal's season
calendar and they were going allthe way because obviously they
they had the FA Cup run, they had the Cup Winners Cup run,
etcetera. So I presume it was just filling

(11:27):
a gap and keeping players fresh.Real Madrid won because they won
both games. But you had players like
Zamorano up front for Real Madrid.
You have, there were some incredible players.
But I mean, I've got some clips and just after I do this that
hopefully will put some picturesup of the programme.
But it did exist. That's my start of the week.

(11:49):
Lovely, lovely, enjoyed that one.
Yeah, it's all right. Made me made me laugh though
all. Right.
Yeah, I that was another one. I think while I was doing the
research, I was just like, yeah,I can't, I can't add this.
I'm we're going to be, we're going to be here all night
talking. So I think that one.
But I remember, yeah, I rememberI came across that one.

(12:11):
But yeah, it's an interesting. I remember hearing about it or
an article a few years back or something about it at 45
minutes. And I was just like, what's the
point? Yeah, and also like that, that
season was pretty intense anyway, the first season in the
Premier League, so it was 22 teams.
So it wasn't a shortened season. So I don't know why they did it,
but they also had a preseason friendly shortly after that

(12:34):
against Real Zaragosa in Spain. So I'm kind of thinking like,
who does this but it? Was like when I think we
mentioned it one episode when Liverpool played that the
Amsterdam tournament, like January, the seven aside
tournament or something in January.
Yeah, Like it doesn't. Yeah, Yeah, I don't.

(12:54):
If I was a player back then, I mean, I don't think even like
now, I mean, what 97 you say? So players didn't even have,
they were just starting to come into the science and nutrition
kind of phase of football. So I mean they must have been
blowing out of their asses in January that they're pre season
friendly as well as the rest of the season.

(13:16):
Makes no sense. Does it right?
All right, all right. Do you want to get into some
tournament chat? All right, Makita.
Look, look at those badges mate, first of all.
I know I had to dig around to I wanted to put the correct
badges, so I figured listeners that they are just kind of where
we've been transported into likea graphic of the tournament.

(13:41):
It's beautiful, by the way. I love these graphics, mate, and
a lot of people like these graphics, so yeah.
So Steve Jobs of podcast. 1990 Sorry if so, was the where we
got it? Was Arsenal, Real Sociedad,
Sampdoria and Aston Villa and this was the Wembley

(14:02):
International Makita tournament?Did you have that programme?
No, you do though, don't you? Yeah, I think we were talking
about the drill advertisement onthe background.
Yeah, Makita drills, Yeah, I mean, they're great.
I mean, other drill company and manufacturers are still
available. I think our good friend Marcel,

(14:23):
though, works for Makita, doesn't he?
In Germany now? Oh yeah.
So yeah, we could have given a bit of a fact about drills and
see if you would all still stay on the pod listing.
But yeah, so I got the programme.
Look at that. Beautiful.
Yeah. Scott, who's on the front?
That's Winterburn, isn't it? Nigel Winterburn, I'm sure who

(14:45):
the real associated player is, you know, no reality.
Yeah. Behind it.
And David Platt. Yeah, I love that.
Like, obviously I share a lot ofadvertisements on Instagram.
There you go look at that one. Michael Thomas Adidas and they
have a weird. Link, though, for plaque,
because he played for three of the four teams, didn't he?
Yeah, there's Platt. Who's Arrows.

(15:07):
Oh yeah. But cracking like, as I said,
like Arsenal featured, you know,David Seaman, Tony Adams, Nigel
Winterman, Lee Dixon, Steve Bold, you know, Paul Merson,
Michael Thomas, Kevin Campbell and this Limpa, Alan Smith.
Were they? They were champions that season,

(15:30):
weren't they? Arsenal I.
Think they were when they're yet.
Right. So Aston Villa were what?
Whereas I always want to know the link of why these teams turn
up for a light. Preaching tournament?
Yeah, well, let's say Astonvillehad Nigel Spink, favourite of
the pod, Gordon Cowans, Tony Daly, David Platt, Paul McGrath,

(15:52):
Tony Kaskarino and Santori had players like, you know, go and
look at Peluca, Lombardo, Mancini, Bialy and yeah.
I mean, come on, that just Sam Doria's team there for mom.
The only player I think I recognise from Rio socially that

(16:13):
is John Aldridge. John Aldridge play.
Oh, of course he did. Yeah.
Oh wow. Go.
But I'll tell you what, for you programme nuts out there, get
this one look. It's so detailed on the players.
Yeah. Like we were talking before, we
recorded like some of the stuff in these programmes.
If you're a programme nut, it's Andy Linnegan in an arch.

(16:38):
Look, there you go. Andy Linnegan.
Yes, new signing. So yeah, going on to that.
Sorry. First game was Sam Doria against
Rio Sociedad. Sam Doria win 353 on pens and
there we go. Let me just get that up.
Arsenal will be Aston Villa 2 nil.
Yeah. Then it was a third place prior
for Rio, Sociedad beat Aston Villa and then Sam Doria the

(17:02):
Arsenal in the final. It's a glorious long ball and
Siemens having to come out here to intercept against the Mancini
and suddenly the same it gets clear, yes, how's that for a
cool? Piece of play.
I'm going to say that Sampdoria feature a lot in these
tournaments. Yeah.

(17:22):
I mean, are we talking because they were probably the most
prolific side in Italy at that point?
I mean, were they dominating Syria?
I think. So yeah, so I've only gone from
1990, but the Makita tournament actually started in 1988.
Wow. The first one at Wembley was
Arsenal, Tottenham, AC Milan andBayern Munich.
Core. What?
Belter. Belter indeed.

(17:44):
Yeah, Arsenal won that one. Arsenal beat Bayern Munich in
the final three nil to Alan Smith and Lee Dixon.
But again, that was before the the 89 as well, so they were.
Yeah, then the 89, even this one, the 89 was Arsenal,
Liverpool, FC Porto and Dynamo Kiev.
Arsenal won that one as well, Beat Liverpool in the final.

(18:04):
Steve. Bold wow girl Steve, that's not
that line up. But I mean, yeah, to still go
and see those because I don't know about you, but pre seasons
were always a great opportunity to see a a new signing in the
kit. Do you know what I mean?

(18:25):
They rushed his paperwork through just so that he could
feature in the Makita tournament.
Be like, Oh my God, Andy Lindigan's arrived.
Blimey, look like Lindigan. Feast your eyes on Lindigan.
Wow. Imagine some of the kits on the
show were there as well. I mean we said you know one of
them. It was advertising one of the

(18:47):
Arsenal new shirts and said comeon, even that Aston Villa
Hummel. Yeah, that's a beautiful kit,
isn't it? Yeah, beautiful.
Yeah. All right, let's let's move
along to 91. Yeah.
So that's have you got the programme for that one?
Nope, I'm I. Found mine on the floor.

(19:07):
Yep. So that featured Arsenal.
So this one is actually a Highbury.
So it's the first one at Highbury.
So it's Arsenal, West Ham, Sampdoria and Parathon Icos.
Again, who is picking these? So the first game Santori beat
West Ham 6/1. I should hope so too.

(19:30):
I mean my word, no offence any of you whammers out there, but
like Sam Dori and West Ham's arewit.
Oh, that's, that's the picture, Jane Z.
Well, I was going through the the the actual thing earlier
that that's the one I showed you.
Oh yeah. So that's the West Ham kit.

(19:51):
So they had that the. West Ham.
Booked her like BAC windows kit.Oh, what I've got is, yeah, Tony
Adams with reality on there. So in that West Ham, and that's
some doing West Ham. So player Buso scored four
Cherizo, Cherizo, I'm I'm sure someone will correct me.
And Lombardo scored in that one.The bald eagle.

(20:11):
Yeah, correct. And then Arsenal beat
Parathilacos one nil. Yeah.
David Roy Castle. Good old Rocky, yeah.
And then in 3rd place playoff, these third place ones, you'd be
pissed. You're like, why am I wasting my
time? Most of them go to penalties.
So Parath and Icos beat. So they drew a West Ham 11 and

(20:33):
then they went to three, two on Pens and then the final some
Dory beat Arsenal 32 on Pens to win that one.
There you go. And in that game, Paul Merson,
18th minute, then Bialy, 69th minute.
It's really amazing as well. All right, yeah.
All right, let's move on to 92. All right, so 92 was the first

(20:54):
one away from London, so this one is at Ellen Rd.
Yeah, so this is the video that we put up, didn't we?
With David Batty going a bit loopy against the Sampdoria
players. Right.
Yes, OK, right. So I now know where we are.
So first of all mate, have you, have you got the wonderful four
word from from Gary on the frontof your magazine programme, the

(21:19):
managing Director of Makita? So you've got a word from Gary
Boracawa, Managing Director of Makita.
Yeah. The It's incredible so.
Here we go. So it's got we have great
pleasure and welcome Naughton, Forest, Stuttgart and our good

(21:39):
friends have Doria. So some Doria have been in every
tournament. Yeah, they must.
Have had they must have done, invested in some, they must
have. Something else must be going on
there. Gary's been putting some
strings. Yes.
So yeah. Oh, look at these drills.

(22:00):
Here's what a world class striker looks like.
Graham White, sour and precision.
Yeah, this, this, this sort of, except Northern Forest and
Boria, Leeds and Stuttgart. So Arsenal had enough on that.
We're not doing this anymore. Yeah, yeah, we said though,
didn't we, when we, we pointed out, didn't we, about the

(22:21):
gaffers on show? Yeah, I mean, and you and you
put it down this one as well, didn't you?
The one from the 91 one with theAli's in an Arsenal shirt
something. Yeah, you see?
Yeah. So from the previous year.
Yeah, look at that. I mean, have you seen Sargent
Pepper in the background though behind Palliuka in that picture?

(22:44):
I didn't notice. That's Ray Finkel.
You know, one on the floor as well.
Ray Finkel made the squad for Sam Doria.
That's reason, yeah. We never knew where he was.
OK, so so this one. Sam Doria beat Notting for his
two nil in the first game. Yeah, Lombardo again.
He scores in everyone. Doesn't he, Lombardo?

(23:04):
Yeah, brilliant. Where are we Des?
Walker was there. Yeah.
Super Dez was playing for Sam Doria.
So yeah, so Leeds beat Stuttgartas well.
David Roy Castle who scored in the previous year scores for the
Leeds. So he liked the tournament and
then you've got where we got. So Stuttgart, Beatnam, Forest in

(23:26):
the where we got in the 3rd place playoff and then Santorio
went again. Yeah.
Free drills for everyone. Yeah, so they beat Leeds in the
final. A great through pass by Roberto
Mancini to new signing Vladimir Yugovich just 5 minutes from
half time was enough for the Italians to win the trophy for
the third successive year. Drills.

(23:49):
Just trying to get up through customs on the way home.
You've all got diamond cut drills.
What's going on? It's like the scene from Die
Hard 3 when they're trying to break into the vault.
Yes. So most of these tournaments
were played between the end of July, August.
Yeah. Before the seasons have started,
yeah. But look at some of the managers

(24:11):
and the players though. So firstly we said managers.
So not only was there Brian Clough, there was Venior and
Ericsson, Howard Wilkinson and we didn't recognise the
Stuttgart manager. But player wise, mate, I mean
you've got, like I said, there'sWalker, but you've got Palliuka,
you've got Piazza and then you've got Guido Brudovald.

(24:35):
It's. Kind of, yeah.
Are we his? Yeah, Cantina.
Cantina. Yep.
Gary Speed McAllister. Teddy Sheridan, Forrest, Stuart
Pearce, Roy Keane. Right.
Unbelievable. And yeah, that's a great
programme in it. And there we go, the league
champions were Admiral. There you go.

(24:58):
Yeah, there. You go.
Rub it in. Let's go on to IKEA
International Horn 1993. So this is at White Hart Lane.
This is a bit of an interesting 1.
So this featured Tottenham IX, Chelsea and Alexio.
Good Little Mix. I do know what though, I find it
a bit weird where they have two English clubs from like the same

(25:22):
area. Like you've got 2 London clubs
like come on, put a Scottish onein there or something.
Invoice Beltwick down. Mix it up.
Yeah. All right.
So Chelsea beat IX or they drew 1142 on pens.
I wonder if these games went to extra time or they should have.
They would have just went to straight to pens.

(25:42):
Yeah. You couldn't drag out an extra
time because I think you had to have two, two games on one day.
Well, yeah, I mean, I've I've done the modern day pre season
version. When I was younger, we used to
do the Emirates Cup, Arsenal when it when it first opened.
So I watched Arsenal, AC Milan, Arsenal, Rangers, Arsenal, Leon,
Arsenal, New York Red Bulls. Like they had some incredible

(26:05):
games, but they had to just, yeah, like squeeze them in in
that format. It was good.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah, this one.
And if you you went to any of these tournaments, please let us
know as well. I'd love to share the comments
was oh, just let us know anything like that because yeah,
I'm intrigued if it was a good day out.

(26:25):
So Chelsea beat RX42 and pens, Tottenham beat Lazio Gazza.
What year was that, 1983? Yeah, he would have been there,
wouldn't he? Yeah.
So yeah, yeah, Tottenham beat Lazio 3 two, third place playoff
Axe beat Lazio 2 nil and Chelseasmashed Tottenham in the final
four nil. Is that a final?

(26:47):
Like, that's nearly as bad as the recent Champions League
final scoreline, isn't it? Tony Cascarino's got a hat
trick. There you go.
Cascarino's on fire. Up here, Cascarino at the end of
it, four goals, another cracker and a.

(27:09):
Patrick for Cascarino. There we go, I think.
Oh, I got another one. Far out.
Sorry. Let's go to 94.
This is never ending tournament.I forgot about this one.
Another Makita. Yeah, I didn't even have a
programme for 95. Gary must have been splash in
the cash. Back to Highbury, Arsenal back
in the game, no Sampdoria, no Sampdoria, Chelsea again.

(27:33):
So Chelsea must be getting the drill bit.
Yeah. So Arsenal, Chelsea, Athletico,
Madrid and Napoli. So not yeah, good value.
This is played. Between 6:00 and. 7th of August
So Arsenal drew Athletico, nil nil.
Beat them 32 on pens. Napoli beat Chelsea 2 nil, 3rd

(27:53):
place Chelsea beat Athletica, Madrid one nil and in the final
Arsenal beat Napoli. That's quite close though to
like the actual start of the season, isn't it?
The 6th and 7th of August? Yeah, before.
That's probably like the latest one.
Yeah. Wow.
Cool. So Makita, there you go.

(28:14):
And that was the end of that then.
That's finished, Gary. Yeah, off or something.
Yeah, poor old guys. I mean like the the Makita
tournament then pretty much stood the test of time.
For quite the early 90s they didquite well.
Yeah, from 19/19/88 to 94. Yeah.
Were these televised? I.

(28:34):
Don't know I. Don't know either, I didn't say
anything about. Guess sorry because that Batty
clip we shared that. Must have been, mustn't it,
somewhere. Maybe on I reckon Sky.
Sky it doesn't say anything about the programme, but the
programmes are brilliant, aren'tthey?
Yeah, as I said, you like collecting programmes, get

(28:57):
these. Plenty of them it.
Doesn't say anything about it. Doesn't say anything about one.
All right. Cool.
Right. Yeah.
All right. Excellent.
All right, let's click on to theIbrox International Challenge
Trophy. There we go.
I've got the programmes for these as well.
I love these programmes. Yeah.
So is that what year is that 194?
94 So this is a banger Rangers Manchester United Sam Doria so

(29:22):
pissed off on the and went to the High Rocks and Newcastle
United. That's the hell of a group, that
one in there. I'll this one I remember the
clips this was showing on Sky but I remember seeing the
highlights on Must be like Sky Sports News because I was
fascinated because Newcastle. The clips are on YouTube and

(29:42):
I'll share them as well. Newcastle beat Manchester.
I had 65 on penalties and it wasweird seeing a Premier League
team have like a penalty shootout.
Back to the teenagers, it's Keith Gillespie, a 19 year old
young man from Northern Ireland. The Telegraph, that one.

(30:03):
So the check makes the same MarkClotigard who can win the tie
for Newcastle United, just signed from C on for £600,000,
45 caps for this country. The chance to win the match.
He's done it. Newcastle United are the

(30:27):
winners. Do you find it weird that pre
season friendlies now and even back then Premier League teams
play each other Jonesy? Yes, because what was recently
Tottenham against Arsenal, Yeah,come on.
It's like Arsenal. It's like a few years.
I would ask Liverpool play Man United in the States.

(30:49):
It's like, come on. I suppose it's a showcase for
those fans that maybe can't travel the world to go watch a
Premier League game, but still like the whole point of pre
season for me is testing yourself against another like
countries team. You know, it's a bit weird when
Newcastle United and Man United go to penalties at Holly Brocks.

(31:10):
Like what's going on? But all the clips of these games
is pretty good. Pretty good watch are on
YouTube. So yeah, Manchester I won,
Newcastle won, Newcastle won 65 on penalties I think who scored
for so Royal Fox scored for Newcastle that Eric Canton are.
So they've got the big plays in there.
Equalise Rangers 2 some glory offour.

(31:33):
There we go. There we go. 3rd place playoff
Rangers beat Manchester eyed Bella Britain one nil, David may
own goal and then the final Sam Doria beat Newcastle 31.
I will share the clip of becausethere's a clip of what Kevin
Keegan's wearing. I'll put it.

(31:55):
Off Oh my. It's you can tell he's on
holiday, right? But yeah, like a Hawaiian shirt.
Yeah, it's that kind of thing. Yeah.
So Lombardo scored two goals in that final and then we go to
Umbro International. Got anything on this one?
No, and I forget this one because I always get this mixed

(32:16):
up with the Umbro Cup with the International 1.
So was that the same era 96? No.
Yeah, 96, third and 4th of August.
So after you're in 96, isn't it?So is that so the Umbro
International, the Umbro Cup with Brazil, Sweden, Japan and
that? Was in 95 the.

(32:38):
Year before, right? OK.
Yes, yeah. OK, OK.
And one of my favourite covers as well.
Look at that for a cover. Yeah, that's a beauty.
The badges look good. So this was at the This is at
the City Ground, Nottingham 3rd and 4th of August 1996.
I love this one because you see clips of them like wearing their
new kits, like Forest is wearinga new away.

(33:02):
I think you've got that yellow. Yeah, beautiful, beautiful.
I think again go just on that. On that note, the another
magical part of pre season is seeing not only the new signing
standing up, but secondly you then wearing your new kit for
the season look. At this look at that look new

(33:22):
look for this new season. Give me give me a zoom in on
that James. Easy.
You know, so you so pretty much advertising Umbro.
Yeah. And that was the first time I
think I saw that Manchester United shirt as well.
Yeah. Yeah, yeah.
Cool. All right.
So. Yeah, so 70 fires Norton Forest,

(33:43):
Neil, Chelsea. Neil.
Chelsea win 3 full 3 on pens. IAX beat Manchester United.
Yeah. I don't know if we actually have
the scores for this 121 third place playoff.
Manchester United beat Norton Forest 31 and Chelsea won it
beat IAX, the invincible IAX. Yeah.
Chelsea have quite a successful pre season tournament didn't

(34:06):
they? Yeah, they won the last Makita
one, didn't they, at the White Hart Lane?
See it all right, and let's justgo into 9797 was at I like this
one as well. There you go.
IX Chelsea. Weird combo of tea.
IX Newcastle were Newcastle wereAdidas.

(34:26):
Yeah, I was going to say like what is that about?
Because they must have had otherUmbro teams.
I reckon that was the last with last minute withdrawal from Man
United. Fergie was.
Fine in there, look how happy they look.
The Umbro Keepy Uppy Challenge. With a loo roll like COVID or

(34:47):
where was this held? Goodison Park.
Oh, Goodison Park. Blessed Goodison Park.
That's it. Good teams, good RX team.
So yeah, Chelsea drew with Newcastle but the win on pens it
seems to be every game went to penalties or most tournaments. 3
one of pens. Everton beat IAX one nil.

(35:08):
Wow, who give us some players ofwho feature for IAX mate?
Yeah, let me go there, Frank. The ball.
But the ball where I was here. Hold on.
Let me find it. Penny McCarty.
Oh, wow. Little man.
Michael yet? Loudrop.
Donny Blind. Yeah, good team.

(35:29):
Great team Kanu. Yeah, no.
Edwin, Vanessa, your mate Sibon,do you play for Wednesday?
You did? Yeah, Gerald, Below, Chezza.
There we go and Everton featuredplayers like There We Go, Tony
Grant, Paul Jard, Gareth Valery,Bill Barrett, Michael Branch,

(35:54):
Duncan Ferguson. You've named probably the most
unpopular Everton 5 to start with.
I'm joking. My mate, My mate Nevison there.
Gary Speed, Graham Stewart, David Unsworth, Dave Watson.
Yeah, there we. Go Was this that was 96?
Sorry, was it that one? No 97. 97 Yeah, Newcastle

(36:17):
Shearer Yeah, Newcastle had a good team.
I was going to say Everton one riding high at that point.
That was an FA Cup year before, was it?
No, yeah, that was 95. Yeah, Chelsea, Adzola Wise, The
Alley Boyett, Petrisku LaBeouf, Mark Hughes, Dean Mateo Goth.
Yeah. Tell you what, that team not

(36:40):
he's very impressive. All right, let's get down to
this. So Chelsea won it 31.
Everton there, you. Go wow.
OK, we have a mixed bag, that one.
Still fun. None of that.
Yeah. All right.
Do you want to just touch on anything else into Toto?
Into Toto. Yeah, well, you reminded me
earlier, didn't you, that Sheffield Wednesday briefly

(37:01):
flirted with the wonderful worldof Into Toto Cups.
Because the ruling of Inter Totowas that you had to.
Was it? If you won the FA Cup, you
qualified. Is that how it works?
I don't know because I found an article and it says we're not
entirely sure how it's decided how Premier League, which
Premier League clubs will end upin the competition.

(37:24):
Yeah, because I remember Sheffield.
He's a scars, didn't you? Yeah, so it featured Spurs,
Sheffield Wednesday and Wimbledon.
So Spurs fit a 7th, Wimbledon 9th and Wednesday 13th and all
the other clubs that finished outside the oil places were able
to get the summer off. So let's go.
So 95 this was. There we go.

(37:46):
I've gone back to TT9P football C pod.
There you go. Oh, wow.
All right. All right, so Sheffield
Wednesday, Group One, I'm not going to pronounce some of these
teams, but yeah, Wednesday came second.
So Wednesday gave it a go apparently.

(38:08):
Yeah, you know, looking at that, they've got Mark Bright, Chris
Waddle, Petrescu, they've got full, full strength team.
So they actually did all right, came to centre, but that's where
it gets to Spurs. Spurs, David, please Farmiani
that one here we. Go.
It was the one where here you gowith Alan Pardew playing for

(38:29):
Spurs. There you go.
Oh my God, that literally looks like a dad turning up playing,
doesn't it? That does not look right.
It was 34 there. No, Yeah.
Just. Sharing Alan Padre playing for
Tottenham in the Intertitle Cup.Has that bloke got like a really

(38:49):
bad mullet as well in that picture behind him?
Like, Oh my word. So this was Tottenham against
Cologne, where Tottenham were beaten 8 nil.
Why they really They weren't parted in the group.
Yeah, and then Group 10, Wimbledon as well, who
apparently didn't field a full strength side as well, hence

(39:12):
they were Wimbledon and Tottenham were banned from
European competition the following season, so they didn't
want to be in good. Yeah, and I'll just go to that.
Tottenham. There we go.
Oh, if we can get it from the Tottenham game.
There you go. Look 8 nil.
Because if my mate Chris turns out for Sheffield, watch
Sheffield Wednesday. Like, come on, Like you got to
put a side out. And yeah, tiny pollster scoring,

(39:37):
getting two goals in that game. Pollster does what poster does,
you know, Yeah. So apparently they just didn't
want to be in, you know, and they just had to, they got
forced, but. There's an incentive winning the
Inner Toto Cup, right? And that's what I thought.
I thought that didn't, I guess the money for Europe wasn't
appealing. I don't know.

(39:57):
But Wimbledon and Tottenham justdid not want to be in it and
they, yeah, obviously got and all right.
What else have we got? Well, so we've had a few
suggestions as to other tournaments, haven't we?
So, Rich, Leeds fan, listener ofthe pod, mentioned the Carlsberg

(40:19):
tournament, Jamesy and you as a Liverpool fan, yeah, you
remember this one? Is that the one we beat?
Leeds, I think. Yeah.
So this one was July 1998 and itwas hosted by Saint Patrick's
Athletic FC in Dublin. So the teams that played in this
tournament were Saint Patrick, obviously Leeds, Lazio and

(40:43):
Liverpool. And some of the priors on show
for that tournament were Pavel Nedved, Dejan Dankovic, Patrick
Berger, Lee Boea rather be so they had some great players turn
up for this one. So that was really cool.
But they also had that the season before as well, which I
did a bit of a deep dive. They did it in 97 as well.

(41:06):
Is this the one with PSV Celtic?Yeah, I watched that one on Sky.
Did you? Yeah, because it was 1 where
John Dale Tomlinson signed for Newcastle and he scored two
goals against and I was just like core the Tony have got a
hell of a player, bugger all, didn't he?

(41:26):
I mean, he wanted to have a goodcareer afterwards, but he just,
yeah, he was great in that tournament.
Yeah, so that was there's one there in 97 was Derry City,
Celtic, Newcastle and PSV. Newcastle won it, didn't they?
Yeah, they beat Derry because itwas a shock, because Derry beat
Celtic, didn't they? Yeah, Yeah, they did.

(41:47):
I mean, it's a good Little Mix. And again, you're seeing like
they actually took proper squadsover for this.
So none of this Colwyn Bay, Liverpool 11 malarkey, they
actually put the effort in like int went with Liverpool for the
98. So yeah, it was good.
And yeah, that was a great shout.
Carlsberg told my man, actually,I couldn't remember that one.

(42:09):
So yeah. Thanks, Rich.
Great sale. Yeah.
Excellent. All right, there we go.
Thing I collect as well. I don't know about you
testimonials. Yeah.
Yeah. Look at that.
I don't personally collect them myself, but they don't tend to
happen now, do they? Or do they?

(42:30):
No, no, I was thinking that, yeah.
I mean, you've got like this one, Paul McGrath, Aston Villa.
I was going to tell you, just replaced you, Paul McGrath on
the pod. Yeah, Astonville against
Birmingham, what a that would befiery, that.
Oh, what a testimony to pick. This is in 1995, may as well so

(42:54):
in the season or yeah yeah absolute brummy bloodbath
Stevens Evergrich against Coventry.
What good looking man. Great handling from Peugeot.
Best wizard? Home.
No, that's dreadful. So it was Coventry against Aston
Villa the 10th of August. This is just before the start of

(43:15):
the season 1991 four. I wonder if that money went
towards a nose job for a Gryzovich because he's had a
battered career, isn't he? Some of these ones like you've
got like advertising the fire extinguisher in there.
Yeah. What?
What's that for? What?
What on earth is that? For Premier fire for your Fire

(43:37):
Protection needs. This one's funny.
Best wishes to Steven Zurigridgefor his testimonial match from
David and Diane and all that Blundell House.
What the Hell's this picture? What's he getting?
It's a naked woman. Oh my word.
Sensing that for the pod, Yeah, wishes.
Yeah, sorry guys. Watch it after 9:00.

(43:58):
This is just full of adverts. Sorry, Steve, but look, it's
just getting hammered by Henry'sand Perry.
This is if this is going into Steve's pocket, let him have an
advert. Yeah, they're paying for it.
This is just full of yeah, like 2 little things of like for your
sky blue called club call. This is just, you know, free MO

(44:18):
T's. This is just a yeah, this is
just all right, cool. Dave Watson against Dave Watson
against Rangers. Yeah.
But you could fall down a rabbithole with adverts in these
programmes, like they're so good, aren't they so innocent?
That's before all of the big giants started, kind of like

(44:38):
Emirates and Qatar Airways. So the Dave, Dave Watson won
July 16th. Yeah.
So she's got family photos in there.
Nice. There you go.
Dave Watson as in Everton, Dave Watson.
Yeah, the captain. Yeah.
This is a good one. Lee Dixon.
This is 2000. I think I remember 2000
November. Is it Celtic?
No. Real Madrid.

(44:59):
Real Madrid. Wow.
This was yeah. Monday the November the 8th.
There you go, I. Want to know because I think
they pick. Don't know who they want to
play? Yeah, I guess so.
Is that other one so like the Francis Ben Ali 1?

(45:21):
You go look. Nice picture.
Oh nice, that's a bit weird. This one is a bit different to
the other ones because it's got Princess Benelli against a kind
of an 11, a mixed 11. If I can find it.
It was it was suis. So when was this?

(45:42):
Don't know date. Sorry, this was suis Saints
Graham Saints against Lori's dream team.
Oh. God, that must have been a hard
watch. Yeah, OK.
Sorry. What?
How do testimonials work? Is it the whole gate receipt
goes to Francis Banali, right? I guess so, yeah.

(46:05):
OK. So they're doing it as like a
thank. You.
But this one, you've got the youknow, the Southampton team, you
know Matt, Leticia, Ego Augusta, you know Dave Besson.
And then you've got the Dream Team.
Tim Flowers, Jeff Kenner, Mark Dennis, Jimmy Case, Neil
Ruddock, Mark Wright, Tommy Readington, Alan Shearer.
Do you know what I was going to say, Alan Shearer, because I

(46:25):
think I've seen the lineup for this one.
Yeah, Russell Almond, Kevin Moore, Barry Horn in dowry,
Richard Hall, Paul Allen, StuartRay and Neil Haney.
Dowry and Sheer are upfront there.
You go the lads and then just going to touch on as well,
there's a Leicester City 1, I don't know if you've seen it,

(46:48):
and it's the clips on YouTube and it's just all about Gaza.
So it's Steve Walsh's testimonial.
There's Chris Evans. TV's Chris Evans.
He scores a penalty or somethingcalled Gazza's in goal or
something. And it's just all about Gaza.
Gaza features in a lot of testimonials.
Paul Merson, Gaza. Yeah.

(47:09):
Dave. Dave, Boost Gaza.
And there's Ferdinand. Oh wow, what a weird picture.
Yeah, and then you've got Gaza playing for Newcastle against
Celtic. There's Reggie Blinker and a
Celtic. Yeah, good old Reg.
Yeah, and then it's just like just different.
You go just different players and different, you know?

(47:32):
Glenn Hoddle in an Arsenal shirt.
Oh, Glenn Hoddle. Yeah.
John Barnes in a Middlesbrough top against Rangers.
You go Steve Omanaman at West West Ham.
That doesn't look right, 1,000,000%.

(47:53):
How about this one? Phil Mitchell and an Arsenal
shirt. I have seen this one.
I forgot about that long sleeve.Bill get choice.
Yeah. And then it's just I've got this
one. Obviously.
Welsh legend Joey Jones passed away recently, found his
blessing, his testimonial. Wrexham against Liverpool 1993.

(48:14):
Mark Hughes in a Wrexham shirt. Yeah.
Great shirt. You go, great shirt.
There we go. And I found, remember you said
you went to the Sheffield Wednesday.
Genoa found the programme. Oh.
The red. The red in Genoa game.
Yeah, May the 7th, 1994. That looks very old.
It looks like I could have come up with that.

(48:35):
It looks like a 1950s programme,isn't it?
Yeah #4 Dan Petrescu. No, no clue.
Yeah. Dan Petrescu for Genoa.
No, no clue at all. After sending you this one.
That's brilliant. Yeah, so that I remember that
because it was absolutely like it was torrential rain and the

(48:56):
ball was moving really slowly. But they're great games when you
watch like that. But yeah, some great pre season
games. I saw it read in locally at the
time. Yeah, what was this one?
The West Ham. Yeah.
So that was the 27th of July 1996.
So for our football team locallywe had behind the scenes access

(49:19):
to this this pre season friendly.
So myself and my brother were stood at the entrance to the
tunnel of the pitch of Elm Park and the players used to walk
across the pitch from the entrance.
So read in at the time, it was Jimmy Quinn, Mickey Gooding,

(49:39):
Keith McPherson, like a lot of those sort of Michael Jilks
great players. Jimmy Quinn was as miserable as
anything and people whinged at him because he just walked past.
We were stood there with our autograph books, like and all
the players. And then all of a sudden Harry
Redknapp comes over with Frank Lampard's Beenia, right?

(50:00):
So he sees that we're a little bit miffed with Jimmy Quinn and
obviously the fact that he didn't do the signings and he
invited us in to the West Ham changing room at Elm Park and
you see all the claret blue kitsand stuff.
Obviously he didn't sort of likewalk us around it or anything.
But yeah, incredible gesture. And I can remember watching that
game because that was an absolute goal fest.

(50:22):
That game read into the three nil lead, right?
Oh, wow. It got to three to half time.
So goals, goals, goals. You have players like Paulo
Futre playing for West Ham, Julian Dicks.
I had a great turn out. It finished five free to read
him massive, but yeah a. Lot better than friendly.

(50:43):
I went to mate. Yeah, that was the one all and.
Yeah. What was the other one you sent
me? Here we go.
This one here. Having a bit of a hug there.
Who's that? Yeah, so this, so I saw a couple
reading that was that picture. There is Paolo De Canio having a

(51:04):
bit of a cuddle, shall we say, with Manchester City, which was
the friendly on the 23rd of July1998, hence why I'm wearing this
shirt today. That was at Main Road.
That was nil, nil. That was only played in front of
just over 2000 fans. Is that right?
Yeah, Main Road as well. Now a few weeks before.

(51:28):
Well actually it was a week before.
So I go and watch Sheffield Wednesday at Reading.
That's a huge spectacle for me. I mean that season was the, so
that was the first season I wentto Hillsborough.
So this would probably be the first game I saw Sheffield
Wednesday live on Park. We were wearing again this kit

(51:50):
pre pre season and we lost threenil to Reading who were
relegated to Division Two at season Bowl and we lost three
nil to them. So we didn't have a great pre
season. But I also saw Tottenham play at
Elm Park as well and that was like the likes of Jason Dazelle.
That was 3rd of August 1996. So I don't think I knew at the

(52:11):
time, like how big that was to see that type of player because
we're we're now obsessed with 90s football to have a time
machine and to go back and go, Oh my God, that's Julian Dicks.
Oh my God, that's like Sol Campbell and like Jason Dazelle
and Teddy Sheringham. And like it's incredible to

(52:33):
think that you were watching that type of football and just
seeing the pictures was such a like a trip down memory lane.
For any of you listeners, like Jonesy has said, if you can
remember, like your best pre season memory, if it's a lower
league club and a big Premier League side turn up there, what

(52:53):
was it like? Who did you watch?
What was the score? If you can remember, because
there have been some great examples, right?
Honestly, it was brilliant. I can remember it well.
Oh, I forgot this one. I found this is going into 2000s
territory, but did you ever hearabout the David Hurst
testimonial? No, I didn't.

(53:14):
It was the Owls. So this was in the October the
1st 2000. It was the Owls 93 side against
the Premier All Stars. Wow, but he'd have gone.
He was at Southampton. Yeah, I thought I haven't got
the. Why would we get him back?
But the premier All Stars featured Alan Shearer, Paul
Gasco and Andy Simpson, Ian Wright, John Barnes, Ian Rush,

(53:36):
Kenny, Doug Leash, John Beresford, Peter Beardsley, Tony
Derigo, Dave Watson, Mark Wright, Les Ferdinand, Andy
Townsend and Ian Snowden. Ian Snowden, mega stars.
Is that Hillsborough? That was at Hillsborough?
I think so, yeah. The Hell's 93 against the

(53:57):
Premier All Stars and you've gotlike a full, like, yeah.
Chris Woods, Kim Pressman, You've got the full, Yeah.
Was Waddle there? Yeah, Waddle's there.
Is Glynn Snowden related to Ian Snowden?
Must be. There you go.
So because, yeah, Glenn Snowden's at the bottom.
And so maybe he's got his brother, if they're related
brother. There you go, got a team.
Did my brother play? That is a great one that I'd

(54:22):
love to have seen that. Yeah, just man, I think the
programmes on eBay if you want to purchase that one.
Well, if you're talking about tournaments, say Jamesy, we've
we spoke about testimonials and preseason friendlies, but have
you heard of the Portsmouth Centenary Tournament?
No. Please enlighten me.
August 1998, Jamesy and the teams to celebrate the centenary

(54:47):
of Fratton Park. All right, you're at Portsmouth,
obviously, Genoa, Wimbledon and social.
I think if I pronounced that right, the French team, I mean,
I know it sounds like I've said so.
Sure. But yeah, that was over 2 days
of the weekend at Fram Park in August 1998 and social with the

(55:10):
tournament. Wow.
Yeah, OK. But I love it's just absolute
madness at how kind of pick and mix all of this is.
Like Portsmouth, who on? How do they even go about doing
it? I know what we're gonna do.
We'll invite Wimbledon down. Why?
Who? And then so sure.
Like, what on earth? Yeah.

(55:31):
About. They just put an advertisement
in like exchange about or just some like yeah.
Things wanted, Yeah, but yeah, they're brilliant.
I love it, love it, love it, love it.
All right. Do you want to do a quick prices
right? Here we go, TV's biggest game
show it. Joins ease.

(55:53):
Price is. Right.
Welcome, welcome. Good game.
Good game, good game, right? Two giant sees Price is right.
All right. This week I've gone annuals.
I know you like your football annuals.
Love an annual. Love, love, love an annual.

(56:17):
Good because I've mixed them up out of football and non football
because I thought last week you got that's an album.
I was I was a bit too good last.Week.
So these are just, yeah, bit of big of a mix of yeah, football
and just kind of a few other things I've found.
All right, let's get on to the first one.

(56:40):
OK, there you go. A quote of Wednesday, A New
History of Shepherd Wednesday book 1970 to 1995.
Sorry, we're going to say this one is between.
I have this. How do?
Yeah. All right.
Yeah, I. Was thinking it.
Is a good book. Yeah, it is a good.
Book all right. A bit long, a bit long.

(57:03):
Let's say just. Between 3 LB and 10 LB.
Go on. We're just.
OK, I'm going to go 6 I'm. Going to give you that because
it's 550. Thank you.
Thank you, Jamie. Yeah, welcome.
Oh my fuck, can I hit myself? Damn, it's stuck in the correct

(57:23):
ring. Next, a Blockbuster's annual
from 1989 feature name. Is football.
I told you it's a mix. It's a mix because I know you
like your books so. Hardly.
So I'm like, he's going to know some of these.
So I've gone to blockbusters. Can I have AP, please?

(57:44):
Bob, that kind of TV show. I don't know if you're watching
that. Yeah.
All right. So this is, I'm going to say the
same. So this is between 3 LB and 10
LB. I always wanted to know what's
inside this book. I'm going to go 6 LB again.
You know, I'm going to give you that 650.
I mean the 50 PS there. You go, there you go, pound,

(58:08):
there we go. All right, next big run a
different game, and it's a signed one as well.
Oh, wow, There you go. A football memoir by Ron
Atkinson. Don't have this one.
No, this is going to be silly money though, isn't it?
I'll say it's between 12:12 and 20.

(58:29):
Oh, not silly money. OK, I'm going to go for 17.
Yeah, it says 19 close. Wrong all.
Right, the next two are nothing football related, I just thought
it'd be funny. OK, A whole collection of

(58:49):
Neighbours annuals. Nape oh wow look at the hair on
this. Yeah, look at this from 1989 to
1994. So not being too 345, yeah, what
on earth can you get from a soapopera annual?
What on like what? A Kylie Minogue crossword.

(59:10):
Yeah, that's what I was. Wondering about that's.
What I was wondering, the blockbusters one, I guess it's
full of quizzes and stuff. I don't know.
I don't know, but it's. Just silly money, this one.
Is it so? Yeah.
So we're going to go, how shouldI price this one?
Let's do between 45 to 70. Pounds 45 to 70, lbs 60. 59.

(59:48):
Get in. I mean, that's absolutely
ridiculous. Is this your vintage?
This is mine. This is my book.
So I just took a photo earlier, but please buy them.
Please. Yeah.
Free shipping. All right.
And next one, I'm looking for expensive books, right?

(01:00:08):
Then obviously they're quite cheap, so this one took me a
while to find. This is a Gladiators 1997.
Did you? Get in.
I think, did I have that as a kid?
I might have done. Yeah.
OK, So this is from 1997 Gladiators or new gladiators or
new events. Shadow still.
I think Shadow was done for drugs, then he was gone.

(01:00:29):
All still there. They put the sticker over his
headler I think. So let's say this one is between
75 and 100 lbs. Not being funny though, but 97
when you got that for Christmas, that annual, that was probably
going to be what the best part of 12 quid £15?

(01:00:52):
Where's the markup with Gladiators now to take it to
that? Don't know, someone's just
obviously doesn't want to get rid of it and someone's said do
you got to put it up for sale, cool up.
So give me the price range againmate 75. 75 to let's say 75 to
182, I'm going to give you that.Get in 85 lbs.

(01:01:18):
I didn't spend an 85 lbs on an annual and you know what?
The password and everything's probably been filled in on that.
Yeah, like love, I've gone into the overdraft today.
Well, what have you done? Gladiator Annual from 1997.
Oh, all right, let's get out of here.
Did well there, Jamie. You did well.
You're getting good at this, aren't you?

(01:01:39):
I am. I'm trusting my instincts
because the last three times we've done this, I've tried too
hard. I'm going to go.
Back to football, right Big. I was getting like looking at
the football annuals, they're very cheap, 1 LB, two pounds, 3
lbs. So I was like, I've got to step
out the football realm and go inthrough Neighbours.
Yeah, Gladiators, because you can pick up.
Yeah, go on. I make it rain when it comes to

(01:02:02):
biannuals for football because they're literally like 1#2#3#
They're brilliant. And that's not good.
That book I. Was looking for a Chris 101,
couldn't find it. That's all right.
Do you know I'll share a quick vintage story I have currently
in my like list the vinyl of diamond lights.

(01:02:22):
Buy it. Don't really sell it mate,
you'll get snapped up. Buy it.
Yeah, it's £4.50 and you know, yeah, I mean it's got, it's
actually got a fold out poster of Glenn Hoddle and Chris Waddle
as well. You know, if you get that, you
have to put the poster up behindyou.
I understand 100%. It's going to turn into an

(01:02:43):
absolute shrine, Chris. I got a vinyl player somewhere.
I've got a vinyl player. Oh, cool.
Like a kind of exit song for thepop.
Yeah, yeah, brilliant. You've got to snap it up.
I think I will, mate. Now you've said it, You've got
me excited about Diamond Light. So yeah, well, that's preseason

(01:03:07):
Jamesy. That's it, That's it.
We're nearly there onto opening day, aren't we?
In whatever. It's getting closer, yeah.
What's our next episode going tobe on though, mate?
Can we? Can we reveal or should we keep
it a secret? Ah, we could share.
Go on. Sure, Bailey tell the world.

(01:03:31):
Yes. What are we doing?
What's the plan? Well, we thought obviously, as
it's going to be the anniversaryof the 9596 season, we are doing
a kit comparison episode. I came up with a title, 30 years
of shirt. Boom, that is very good.

(01:03:52):
We normally like get like to thestart of the episode.
What should we call this? 130 years of shirt?
Amazing. We're going to be thumbs up,
thumbs down shirts from the 9596and the this season.
What year are we in 2526? So we're not going to.
So we are going to stick to the programme of like the shirts of

(01:04:14):
the league table. So, for example, there will be
teams that aren't no longer in the Premier League, we are still
going to use their shirts to compare.
So we're sticking true, this is going to be exploiting.
We're looking forward to this one because we've had this in
the bag for a while now, haven'twe?
Yeah, yeah, and now, obviously, did you know Liverpool had just
released their shirt? Do they?

(01:04:36):
Is it in a vault, Jonesy? Oh goodness, mate.
Oh. We need to talk about this.
I'm not buying it. You're not right.
OK, well we will talk about it in depth, but.
Yeah. Bit mere in that.
Bit mere, but yeah, new kids, new season, So we're looking
forward to that one. Yeah.

(01:04:56):
OK. Yeah.
Excellent. So that's it.
Where can we find you? You can find me at Woody W 1988
Instagram only. Where can I find you, Jonesy?
Football dot Jonesy, I might be on other platforms as well.
Yeah, you. Are what your Twitter?

(01:05:19):

nudge. He does a few pouts on Snapchat
as well guys, so if you want to look at.

(01:05:39):
Yeah, birthday messages. Yeah.
Happy birthday from Woody. Yeah, how depressing would that
be for someone, like, podcast guy?
Who's that, Woody? Oh, how much?
I've only quid. Yeah, I did for 20P just for the
gig. I'll tell you what, I did get a
cameo from Chris Waddle not longago.

(01:06:02):
Oh, of course. Yeah, You remember that?
Yeah, I can remember. Like he was just talking about
like, the demise of Sheffield Wednesday because there's a
great dressing room. Really enjoyed it, Woody.
Great dressing room. I was like, yeah, talk to me,
Chris. Ask me about my birthday.
Disappointing. Anyway, I digressed.

(01:06:24):

at a charity shop the other day and I saw this.
