(00:32):
Hello and welcome back to that 90s Premier League podcast
episode 15. Let me introduce to you my
esteemed Co host. He drinks a whiskey drink, he
drinks a vodka drink and he drinks a lager drink.
It's Jonesy. How are you mate?
At the moment. He's drinking a Guinness.

(00:52):
If you'd have told me that, I'd include that into my intro.
How you doing? Good mate, Good, Good.
How you been? All right.
I'm, I'm very well mate, yes, I,I really do look forward to
every week when we record these because we get such good topics,
don't we mate? Absolutely yes.
Do you want to tell our beautiful listeners what our

(01:13):
what our topic is this week? Yeah, so welcome to that 90s
World Cup podcast where we're going to look at the World Cup
98 kits. France 98, do you think this
was, if we're talking, well, there was only what, 2 World
Cups in the 90s, wasn't there? So do you think this was the
best one? Just point out there early.

(01:35):
It's the one I probably had morekind of interest in.
I remember in 94, I think it wasin primary school in 94, but
yeah, high school. Well, yeah, this is this is 1
definitely I was into to the point that I remember the games
I'm having time off school because some of the games were
in like 1:00. Yeah, you were.

(01:59):
You were in UK though at that point right?
98? Yeah, watching them on ITV.
So we did have like a few lunchtime games, didn't they?
Because it was like the early group stages when there was, oh,
you know, there's nothing betterthan three games a day, is
there? Yeah, because like looking into
it, I mean England, the coverageof England versus Tunisia on

(02:22):
Monday, whatever 15th of June, that coverage started at 1:00,
so. Right in school, yeah, so.
I've got to go to have a day off.
And then your next game, the coverage started at 3 or 4 and
then the other one was at 7. Yeah.
Boot. Off the North East End as the
Coronation Street. I remember watching it, mate,
the school, the game, and it wasbrilliant.

(02:43):
But yeah, what a time to be alive.
Yeah, absolutely. So this is probably the most
anticipated World Cup from our listeners because we've had
quite a few people say, oh, well, we should be doing France
98. Can't wait till you do France
98. What about France 98?
We listened. We heard you.

(03:04):
So, Jonesy, tell us how today's episode is going to go, mate.
So we're going to go through each group and rate the kids,
aren't we? What I did realise when we were,
when we were doing this as well,I thought it was 24 teams.
So I thought it was like World Cup in 94.
So putting this together was 32 teams.

(03:25):
I was just like, made a week offwork, yeah.
Don't worry listeners, we're notgoing to do the qualifying
rounds as well. It is just the tournament.
What do? You think about what Wales are
now, I haven't, but yeah, so there's a lot to go through.
I'm excited, yeah, because there's a lot of quality and
there'll be a stage where I'll point out what kits I've sold,

(03:48):
as you see. Yeah, Woody, what I wore, what
are you wearing? Because I'm wearing a black
T-shirt in mourning of not having any World Cup.
Oh no, I've I've gone. I'm in full reggae boys today.
If any of you are listening on Spotify, I have the Jamaica 1998
home shirt made by Kappa, and behind me I have the South

(04:11):
Africa 1998 shirt also made by Kappa.
Two beautifully artistic shirts I would say, and I think we'll
go into that in a bit more detail later on, but in terms of
icon status, I think every WorldCup has one in terms of the
shirt that stands out. Would you say this was one of

(04:32):
them? Absolutely, yeah, Kappa nailed
it, I think. I mean, we're getting too far
away. We haven't got through that,
but. Yeah.
Yeah, good shirts mate. Thank you.
I've got, sorry, I've got a bit of merch.
Got my. It's not so my McDonald's French
98 cup. It's the one with so that's got
like Footix. I had to ask you what his name

(04:55):
was. I keep forgetting Footix on the
front right? What else do you got mate?
FIFA have led me the World Cup. It looks.
Heavy mate, it is heavy. You could use it as a weapon and
it was. But how did he?
How did he get knocked unconscious?

(05:16):
The World Cup. Yeah, I've had this for like
I've nearly 20 years I reckon. Jonesy, this is like as a must
have for any collector, I think.Yeah, I mean, look at that.
That actually looks like the real 1.
It does tell you what when they lifted up as well, put a bit
damage on the shoulders far out. It's heavy.

(05:36):
Yeah, especially little Didier Duchamp.
I mean, that must have killed him.
Right, yeah, we've got, we've got all the books as hell,
haven't we? Yeah, so you've got the official
magazine there, right? Yeah.
So I've I've I've got the Francenow, Yeah.
And this one is a couch potatoesguide to the World Cup, which

(05:58):
was done by match match of the. Day, match of the day, yeah,
stuff like that. Which has got everything from
the teams to then how they say goal, how they say offside, how
to sing along to their national anthems and their favourite TV
dinner dishes. Yeah, mine's boring.
Mine's just got like just the the stats history, that's it.

(06:20):
But again though, well, yeah, itis.
But I mean, like, when it comes to the World Cup and stuff,
there's nothing better than having the classic schedule of
knowing when the games are goingto start, cheeky wall chart, and
then having this next year with your drink and then going right,
who's next, Paraguay versus Bulgaria.
OK. Is it turning the TV channels as

(06:41):
well? No, it tells you kind of the top
teams of in the country, the best ever player, the actual
words to their national anthem. So you could sing the Paraguayan
national anthem. Yeah.
And just just highlights of their kits and players.
So yeah, it's really cool actually.
Cool. Yeah.

(07:02):
Right eBay. EBay Purchase.
This was do you know what? Actually this was a extra gift
from a really lovely person on Vintage.
I bought a stack of shoot and match magazines from them and I
got that as an extra gift with aEuro 96.1 and I thought that is
unbelievable. So I feel.
Like I'm Vista now on Vintage because we don't have it in

(07:23):
Australia. I know, I know, it's a goldmine,
mate, it really is. But yeah, I think because we had
such wonderful feedback with ourPremier League kit review and as
it's the summer, there's not much to talk about football wise
at the moment in June, is there Jonesy?
No, no. So, you know, let's delve into

(07:45):
the wonderful world of France 98, shall we?
Excellent. Do you want to get into State of
the Week? Yes.
All right. OK, my France 98 start of the
week. So there were 171 goals scored
within the tournament and scoredby 112 players.

(08:09):
However, there were six own goals and those players were
Georgie Bachev from Bulgaria. I hope my pronunciation is
correct. Yousef Chippo?
Do you remember Yousef Chippo played for Coventry?
Yeah, for Morocco, Tommy Boyd for Scotland.
Now, I believe. Was that in the opening game of

(08:31):
the tournament against Brazil? Maybe.
Could you score an own goal? Pierre Issa for South Africa,
Zubi Zareta for Spain. Which is the goalkeeper, Is that
right? Yeah, yeah, OK.
Bit of an odd one. And then Mihailovich for
Yugoslavia. So yeah, 171 goals scored.

(08:54):
That's actually pretty good, to be fair.
But the top goal scorer of the tournament was Davosuka with
six. Still love Davosuka.
Yeah, brilliant player. Yeah, brilliant player.
He came alive in that tournament.
Sure did. All right, go, let's get onto
it. All right.
So before that, we're going to have a look at the the key

(09:16):
manufacturers, the key suppliers, sorry, Football Kit
Archive, which I reckon is the best place to find everything.
Yeah, they had, they had a little a cool chart on there
which I've borrowed. Yeah.
So you can see. So they had 12 kit suppliers for
the World Cup, dominated by Adidas, Nike, Puma, Reebok,

(09:38):
Amber only had three teams. You think back then Premier
League, how much they dominated in the early stages of the
Premier League, Just three, justthree countries, yeah.
And ASICS just one team. Yeah, I mean, I can remember Sir
Umbro was Norway, England can't remember the third of Scotland

(09:59):
of. Course it is.
Scotland. Yeah, yeah.
But again, the templates of these ones, which we'll go on to
discuss are quite stainy though, aren't they?
I think is this where the manufacturers started to kind of
do the kind of same sort of templates for kids?
You think think Puma. I think Puma are kind of guilty

(10:19):
of that. Yeah, I think Nike, but yeah.
Nike as well. Yeah, we.
Will certainly have a look at that.
That's very interesting though mate.
That's right. So obviously there's more teams
in this one. So there's only 8 kit suppliers
at the 1994 World Cup. Yeah, I think the popularity of
kits so started to rise, didn't it?
I think people started to be able to get access to more kits

(10:42):
internationally as well as nationally.
So yeah, it's a bit of a goldmine this one, isn't it
really? I mean 12 different suppliers.
There we go. All right, let's go to Group A.
So we're going to go in Group stages and positions as well.
Brazil, see one Group A, so we're starting with Brazil.

(11:04):
Yeah, there you go. What do you think about these?
I used to love it when Brazil used to wear their blue kit
because I was always so bored ofthem wearing their home kit all
the time because no one else really had their colours.
So whenever I saw them in their blue kit I was like oh wow that
looks amazing. And this one did not disappoint.
I think the the the whole kit itself.

(11:26):
So I'm talking blue shorts with the thick white stripe down the
side, the white socks with the middle, blue stripe around the
middle. I'm picturing our nine Ronaldo
in this. Kit Yes, yes.
And even when they went to kind of put their blue socks with
their blue shorts, it just looked glorious, this kit in the

(11:49):
flesh. And I think the players just
wore it perfectly. Yeah.
Great memories of these two. Yeah, I think my favourite
Brazil kids, actually, just the memories of it.
Yeah, yeah. I mean it was the cardinal.
On the back, yeah. Yeah, and Cesar Sampaio's kind
of opening header and stuff against Scotland and yeah, it

(12:11):
was beautiful. Kit.
I'm thumbing up for both to be honest.
Yeah, me, me too mate. Thumbs up.
Thumbs up, yeah. We always have good starts,
don't we? All right.
Oh, so no way. So, yeah, reached the round of
16. So yeah.
So I'm second in the group. What do you think?

(12:34):
I I like I'm a fan of these ones.
Both. I think that's you a fan of
both. Yeah, that way.
Shit's very similar to the Manchester United one of the
Manchester. Is in there?
I'd never thought of that before.
I always remember when I saw Ollie gonna sell Sharon there
and I was like, jeez. Yeah, Is he bored?

(12:56):
But any of these could be used as a united shit, no?
Yeah, Do you know what, the onlything I find very kind of busy
about this shirt is the fact they've got the Norwegian kind
of FA badge on one side, the Norge badge, and then they've
got the flag on the other. And then it's kind of sandwiched
between Umbro and it all just looks quite cluttered on the top

(13:18):
of the shirt. What do you reckon if they did a
central if they got rid of one? I just had a central badge below
that Umbro. Yeah, I mean, the Norwegian flag
is probably 1 of, I mean, thanksfor asking.
It was one of my favourite flagsof all time, if we're talking
geography. But I think it wouldn't have

(13:41):
looked right if that Norwegian flag was in the middle.
So you'd have to stick to the kind of Norwegian emblem on the
left I think if it was to go central.
However mate, it still works because let's think just
underneath Umbro for this. They had the numbers, didn't
they? Yes, of course.
Yeah, I'm a big so I love them. Yeah, a big fan of both.

(14:04):
Thumbs up. Thumbs up for me.
This is easy. Yeah, I think we might be able
to go all the way to 2002 Maya, this right.
Yeah, what have we got here? Morocco.
See. Now you've got 2 good examples
here mate, because you've got one with a number and one
without. Yeah, yeah.

(14:25):
Go on, talk to me. Some of the Puma kits in this
World Cup. I'm a fan of this one.
Not really, no. It's.
I don't know. It's something's missing.
I don't. Yeah, I don't.
Just don't do it for me to be honest.
What about yourself? Yeah, it's a classic kind of

(14:49):
template kit, isn't it really? I mean, it's great.
They've made the World Cup. A thing that kind of concerns me
a little bit is the stripe across the middle of the chest,
and then you've got the badge onthe left of Puma and it just
looks it. Does weird.
Could they have used Shepherd Shepherd Wednesday template?

(15:10):
They could have. And you know what?
There was so many good Puma templates around that kind of
period anyway. Weren't there?
That's what I was thinking. It's just yes, I.
Don't know. No, I mean I love the colour
green for their home shirt. However, didn't Morocco kind of
traditionally have red for theirhome shirt?
Because haven't they been in World Cup since where their home

(15:31):
shirts have been burgundy red? Yeah, you're right.
So I'm a little bit confused as to because weren't they in
Russia 2018 maybe or something but their kids were different.
I do like the shade of green so if I were to choose one it would
be the home shirt, but it is very Bulgaria this one.

(15:51):
Yeah, I'm going so thumbs down. Yeah, let's do it.
Sorry, Moroccans. Excellent.
Does this podcast reach anyone in Morocco?
Do you reckon? Are we going to get any hate
mail? Next one Scotland.

(16:14):
I've got a lot of time in Scotland.
I like that you're. Only 6 ones Did you like?
Yeah, yeah. What was there a way in the Iran
only 6? Was it that 10?
Did they wear away? I think so have to look.
They're they're kits. So I find just their shade of

(16:37):
blue in their kits. I love it.
The fact that this was obviouslyworn on the opening day of the
tournament with the Red Sox, John Collins, Colin Hendry,
Tommy Boyd, McAllister. Yeah, it's a thumbs up for me
for both, I think, because I just think it's a classic

(17:00):
Scottish kit. They've got the centre badge
with the Umbro right on this oneand the Away looked great.
And I think as well, actually a kit collectors comment on this,
the name set and the numbers on the Away are incredible on that
kit because they're like red with a Navy blue trim, aren't
they? Yes, Yeah, yeah, they've.
More the other way around. Yeah.

(17:20):
So for your 96, which I will share later, it was like white
and it had like purple, blue kind of shapes like error kind
of shaping down there. Oh.
No. No.
I didn't know that. Yeah, I'll show us another one.
But yeah, yeah, yeah. Very different than what they

(17:41):
had. Cool.
So we're going thumbs up. Thumbs up for both, mate.
Yeah, I mean, do you have anything you can stay on
Scottish kits? I like them.
I like them both. Yeah, as I said, I was a fan of
the Euro 96 ones and I think, yeah, they did a good job.
Yeah, they're EUR 96 home shirts, their best shirt of all
time. Yeah, I agree.
Yeah. All right, let's slide over to

(18:06):
Italy. What are you thinking, mate?
But he reached the quarterfinals.
Young Woody every football tournament.
Always loved an Italian kit. The the Italian players always
looks amazing in it. I was going to.
Say look very suave. And yeah, they just always get

(18:28):
it right. This shirt is class.
The whole kit is class for both. However, yeah, the only thing I
don't like is the kind of metallic shiny element to this
shirt. Yeah, you can see that one on
the the lighting on the home shirt there.
Yeah, I mean, and and also as far as kits go, like if you look

(18:55):
at the away that could quite easily be a shirt that they wear
on the coach for like polo shirt.
Yeah, it just looks a bit tennisbe at the time.
So it's not the the most creative or inventive, but
again, I think they kind of won us over with how the players

(19:15):
wore it and the sort of the trimon the socks and the shorts, in
my opinion. So yeah, yeah.
What do you think? How do you think it looks in
long sleeves? So I found a long sleeve picture
to put on there. I don't like it.
Yeah. I don't like long.
Yeah. I don't know why A.
Polo shirt thing again, don't you?
Kind of, I don't. Know.
Yeah, because because there's nothing on the detail of the

(19:38):
sleeve, is there? No, it's just straight.
Yeah, straight. Yeah, see that doesn't do it for
me. A short sleeve is better, but.
What are you thinking? It's hard this one, isn't it?
Yeah, I'm just, I'm putting thumbs up because I can remember
like Christian Vieri and Donodoni and yeah.
Yeah, I remember Zola, Zola. Yeah, yeah.

(20:01):
Come on. Yeah.
Well done. You scraped through Italy.
All right, All right. Sorry, I'm not sure about.
Obviously for this tournament they couldn't have the Reebok
on. Yeah.
Yeah, but so the way one, I'm not sure if it was if it's just

(20:23):
a standard away, not the World Cup 1, but I know the the home
one I've put up there is the World Cup one.
They couldn't have the the Reebok logo in there, could
they? I completely forgot about that.
Yeah. So they reached around a 16
coming second in the group. I like them.
They're, I mean, they're iconic on how they look.

(20:47):
Yeah, again, is this Reebok was Reebok have?
Let's have a look to Reebok havea Oh no.
Is there any? No.
Is it 3? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
We'll see the others where they go through, but.
Yeah, I'm thinking then I don't,I don't know.
I just a lot of these kits at the moment don't actually

(21:09):
associate to the countries very well if that makes any sense.
OK. I like I'm doing thumbs up to
the home more than the away. Yeah, I think I'm going.
Thumbs up home. Thumbs down away.
What's your opinion? Yeah, I just, I find that that

(21:30):
homeshare good, good memories ofthat home shirt.
I always liked it. Salas and Zamorano wouldn't it
that sort of time. Yeah, that's what I was
thinking. That game against England?
A friendly, wasn't it? Oh yeah, I think it was, wasn't
it? Yeah, the game.

(21:50):
Yeah. Excellent.
All right, excellent. Let's move on.
Another Puma, Austria. See, I like those.
I had the home the home shirt. Yeah, reached the group stage.
Obviously didn't do too well in this one.
Yeah. What do you think?
Again, this shirt was very shiny.

(22:12):
The home shirt was almost like, it wasn't like a white, it was
like a kind of, it almost had that kind of foily kind of look
to it and I don't. Different from.
Other Pumas, yeah, it was just alike this is where where we
spoke right at the beginning of the pod.
We said about templates and it'sstarting to look a bit samey and

(22:34):
just a bit kind of straight laced.
I think this is a classic example because Austrian kit.
Going through the other Puma ones, Yeah, you're back.
You're spot on. I like that.
Home 1. Yeah, the home one's OK.
I mean, memories of this Kit. Have you got anything?

(22:55):
Tony Pollster and whatnot? I was thinking Tony Pollster.
I just remember watching when orwatch that 98.
I just liked the Austrian home shit.
Do you know what I'm summing down for both?
That's all right. There you go.
I'm going to go. Thumbs up, home.

(23:16):
Thumbs down and away. Yeah, yeah, Excellent.
All right, camera. There we go.
Another Puma. They're in the same group as
well. Let me just have a look.
Same colour. Same.
Yeah, same. Oh man.
Welcome to the template, yeah? Oh my God.

(23:38):
I like porn. I think Cameroon, they do OK in
the 90s, I think they do OK and kids.
If I'm honest, I think Cameroon have a very unique identity when
it comes to football kits in anytournament they're in, I think
they always stand out no matter what.
One, if it's African nations World Cups, they do very well in

(24:01):
terms of having that kind of uniqueness.
So I think the home shirt with this one, particularly Patrick
and Bomber Riggle Bear song, great players wore this kit and
I think this kit because this one had red shorts, yellow
socks, didn't it? I think colour.

(24:24):
Scheme happy going back, yeah. Colour scheme looks good on the
home. Yeah, I think if I'd apply the
would I wear it test, I'd wear the home, I wouldn't wear it
anyway. But the away mate is very
Australian esque isn't it? Kind of, yeah, same colour.
Does that would that work for you if that was an Australian
home shirt? Oh, let me just start doing my

(24:49):
graphic design again mate. And here's what I had earlier,
yeah. I don't know, because like I was
saying, obviously Australia around that time.
Yeah. What was that kit around that
time? So the one that didn't qualify
for the world that Was is this one.
Oh, that's a beautiful shirt. But theirs is the kind of yeah,
they've got the green and the black as well.

(25:12):
What's the so tell the Spotify listeners what your what?
What sort of template is that? Yeah.
So it's an Adidas. It's a different Adidas
template, I think. Yeah, like with the colour and
things like that, you don't really see.
Not at all. So I think this is the 9798 big
badge. With up a big grey shirt we do.

(25:32):
Yeah, they continued that. Obviously.
I'll show you. I had that.
I bought the lighter shirt and Iknew the first thing you said is
that's a big batch. Yeah.
So yeah. Yeah.
All right. Well.
I think I prefer the Adidas. Yeah, I think I'm going.

(25:53):
Thumbs up home. Thumbs down away.
Yeah, same mate, same excellent girl.
OK, let's move on to Group C France winners.
Oh. What have you done here with the
long sleeve French shot here, Jamesy?
I am just kind of mixing it up. Yeah, you're, no, you're making

(26:15):
me see these from a very different perspective.
You know what, when I was looking, I was like, yeah, let's
let's kind of mix them up. If I can find a long sleeve for
one of like, because most of theshirts have the same template,
don't they? Like, yeah, yeah.
So if you could find a long sleeve version.
So for YouTube viewers, yeah, yeah, you can see kind of the
pattern I'm going through. Yeah, not on all of them, but

(26:38):
when I could find them. So yeah, yeah.
Iconic, isn't it? So if we talk players first that
wore this shirt, so the home shirt particularly with long
sleeve, are we talking Trezor, Gay Henri?
Sedan, yeah. Zidan, I'm going to shock you

(26:59):
here. I like the home shirt, so it's a
thumbs up for me. However, in short sleeve,
because for some reason that long I know like the Adidas trim
on the shoulders is probably going to go all the way down,
isn't it? I think it does, yeah.
And, and this is a, a previous kind of template that France

(27:21):
have had before kind of the Platini era, haven't they, with
the kind of red thick stripe across the chest with the
little. Good call out.
I just don't like the home either way, sorry.
I just think they could have just gone without the the.
Strike to agree with you. I prefer the home, the away

(27:42):
doesn't really do much for me. I think because the red stripe
across the chest is so bold and stands out, I think the blue one
on the away just looks like they've covered up a sponsor.
Yeah, yeah, it. Does you know what I mean?
Yeah. If they'd have just had that as
plain white and a centralised number that was blue, I think

(28:03):
that would look beautiful with the collar and just the
detailing on the sleeve and the cuff.
I think the. Name sets as well.
Their name sets were great. They were, weren't they?
Yeah. So I think I know.
Yeah, I reckon if it's just a plain, get rid of that blue at
the red, just make it a plain white, work a number on there.
I think Adidas kind of, I think that's quite synonymous with a

(28:27):
lot of French kits actually in that time because they focus so
much on the home share being so stand out and kind of
expressive. I think they kind of lost
themselves for ideas for the away and just kind of went,
yeah, just replicated the changeof colours.
I think they could have done a lot more with that you
personally. All right, so I'm going to go

(28:48):
thumbs up home, thumbs down away.
What are you going? Yeah, I agree with you there,
mate. Yeah, yeah.
Wonder what French listeners think emailing.
Yeah, let's know. Yeah, I'm sure we're going to
get a lot of shots fired for this one.
All right, Denmark. So they reached a quarter
finals. Hummel, what are you thinking?

(29:09):
Have you got this one? No, but they are absolutely
glorious, those two. The only thing that gives me the
football shirt ick is the the numbers so high up under the
chin. Yeah, because if you're stick
tofting, and he was a little, hewas a little boxy midfield

(29:31):
player with a great big square head, you probably wouldn't have
seen his number. So.
I guess it's because of the the,the logo, the centralised Danish
kind of badge. I don't know, maybe they just
didn't want to cover that up. I just, I thought the Danish
players again, right? I know I'm swooning a bit on

(29:51):
this podcast, but the Italians look good in the kits, the
Danish always look good in theirkit.
Don't they do? Yeah, absolutely, until it gets
to stick tofting. And Thomas Gravison knew a
little bit, but it just works. It's don't they Hummel Hummel do
well for Denmark. Don't they?
Yeah, they really do. They really do.

(30:12):
They went through a weird spell when they were Adidas, but then
they went back to Hummel, didn'tthey?
They saw the light. So.
Yeah, what do you? Think, mate.
Yeah, yeah. To grease up.
Yeah, Excellent. All right, there you go.
What have you got there mate? So I am holding the 98 South

(30:33):
African home share which is incredibly busy.
Great colour schemes though, because we've got white, gold,
green and black on them. Someone's.
Changed the contrast on that oneof one there because it's.
Very, Yeah. There's purely the gold does it?
Not really. I mean it's it is very again.

(30:54):
It's a shiny shirt mate. What's France 98 was Chinese.
Shining through, mate. Shining through, Yeah.
I mean, it's a very classic kindof shirt or the Benny McCarthy
and whatnot. And it's got the a nice little
touch actually, because France 98 was quite a hot World Cup,

(31:14):
wasn't it? In terms of temperature, right?
Yeah, I remember it being sunny.Right, yeah, So they've got the
kind of aerated underarm and under sleeve on this.
So I play. It's a very sensible shirt.
I would have loved to have seen them in that way though.
That way I've I've don't think I've ever seen for sale.

(31:35):
I was going to say I've never seen one for sale.
Did they ever wear that? I've never seen him wear it.
To be honest. I can't even remember it until I
was putting this together. I was like, oh.
Yeah, I mean, that's, that's like if that was like a real
Batiste away shirt in the Spanish league, that'd be ideal,

(31:56):
wouldn't it? They both work for me, Jonesy,
personally. I just think the style of them
is class really. Yeah, I'd love to own over them.
Yeah, I'll take bike, I'll take bike.
Yeah, you take sold. Yeah, two thumbs, 2 thumbs.
Look. At that, the green thumb fades

(32:19):
into goes well with the kid. Let's have a shirt with a big
thumbs up. Excellent.
All right. Do you remember South Africa at
the World Cup though mate, before we move on, do you
remember them? Do you remember their kind of
because did they leave much of Aof a mark in the World Cup?
I just remember the kids, to be honest.

(32:39):
It's just. The kit isn't it?
Let me just go. So play 3 drew 2 lost one.
So they lost against France, 3 nil drew against Denmark and
then drew against Saudi Arabia, which was our next one, which I
think would just be a thumbs down because I couldn't even

(33:00):
find a picture of the away. Look at that.
It's just a it's just a computergenerated picture you'd wear.
Yeah, rubbish. Both of these look like they're
the sort of ones that you see hanging up in like newsagents,
like on the on the beach in Spain, like the little cheek

(33:20):
knock off ones. You're like, is that legit?
Is that actually a Saudi Arabianshirt?
Because they look absolutely grim.
Yeah, yeah. What is even on there mate on
that? Is it palm trees on the by the
badge? I don't know.
They could have put more effort and I guess, yeah, I don't know.

(33:41):
What's the brand shirt? Shamo, shamo.
Oh, shamo. Yeah.
Shamo, Yeah. Can they make anything else?
I don't know. I mean.
I don't want to offend, I mean. No, I mean.
I think, I think we've got listeners in Saudi Arabia.
But they so absolutely, they hadan awful shirt in this France 98

(34:02):
both home and away. However, they went to Korea,
Japan, didn't they in 2002. And because they were in
Germany's group, I believe. And they had a beautiful Adidas
template in that tournament, which was the classic kind of
fade under the arms. These, however, just look cheap.

(34:25):
And it's like they just like, but they were like you're in the
World Cup. Come on, like, put a bit of
effort in. You're representing your country
at the World Cup. You don't want your team to walk
out in that there. Yeah, you're.
Right about the 2002 ones, the Adidas.
The green was amazing. Yeah.

(34:47):
All right. Well, I'm going to go thumbs
down for both. Sorry, yes.
Yeah, sorry, mates. All right, let's go to Group D.
There we go. Now we go.
Now we're talking do you want todo a green and white shirt?
This is how you do it. Jones, do you start on this one?
Because I am just absolutely glorifying over this home shirt

(35:12):
dribbling. Dribbling, mate.
Now that now. Both iconic.
Yeah, I love them both. I'd love to invite them.
I just like Kanu to rebo W Icotcha.
Like who else would they have had in the Nigerian team at that
time? Was Amicacci Amicacci there?

(35:33):
Would he have been there? Great players.
They did, yeah. I'm just trying to have a.
Look all I say. Maybe.
All I say, yeah, he scored against, he scored against
Spain, I think with that own goal for the Spanish keeper you
were talking about. Beautiful kit though, that
colour green as well works really well.
It's that lovely, delightful Quality Street green.

(35:55):
You know I'm talking about the little triangle.
That's it. I mean Nigeria, just even the
present day, I mean, I've got a couple of them, you know, just
as soon as they come out, you go.
I got to get them. Well, that's the thing, and this
is what I said to you about Cameroon, mate, is that they
have created an identity for their country through their kit.
Absolutely. Yeah, everybody knows a Nigerian
kit and everyone looks out for it every tournament because they

(36:18):
put in the effort. Yeah, I think Knight nailed this
the. 100% thumbs up both and even in long sleeve that looks
good. Yeah, serious.
There's another long sleeve I put in there.
Excellent. All right.
Reebok, Paraguay. I like the always better than I

(36:39):
am. Yeah, I mean the the goalkeeper
kit for this one, if I remember rightly was about her because I
remember Jose Sheila there kind of right, right in the theme
tune, singing the theme tune allthe time for Paraguay, Carlos
Acuna. Who else would I have had?
I remember. But I I get the my only

(37:03):
criticism of the home share, andI've said this before on
previous pods, is I am bored with block stripes.
Yeah. I don't like the fact that
there's only like two or three. If you're going to have stripes,
give me a bit more, you know, not just the one in the middle
and then the sleeves. It just looks a bit lazy.

(37:24):
Yeah. Chris thinking around then,
wasn't it? I mean, Reebok took, Reebok took
over Liverpool, they had Aston Villa.
Is that my eyes right or is thata tassel as well on the home
show Is that is that have they got tassels on the home show or
is that white like trim underneath the buttons?
It looks like a tassel from whatI can see.
Oh yeah, of their flag is. That what it is.

(37:47):
Yeah, yeah. Have to look into that more
detail. Yeah.
So you've got your buttons, and they've got the flag underneath
there. The blue numbering as well
doesn't look right on the red. Now the sign isn't there.
Yeah, it's, and this is Reebok, mate, right?
Reebok. Wow, so they like covered South

(38:10):
America then for the World Cup, the home shirts.
OK, but even I find that pretty boring, if I'm honest.
I'm thumbing down for both. Yeah.
I mean mate, if you if you want me away, if you want a green
thumb the away. Yeah, I'm going to go green
thumb the way I like that way. Yeah, smart.
Fair enough. Smart.
Yeah, yeah, Smart all. Right here we go into next

(38:34):
Spain. Stop it, stop it.
Not a good stop for them. Group stage.
But but you know, as of late, I'm glad that I'm going to have
a little rant here, right? OK.
As of late, Spain have really dirtied the home shirts in my

(38:56):
opinion, because they've not included enough Navy blue.
And I'm talking a dark Navy bluelike this, right?
Because they've toyed with the idea on a few of the shirts.
And I know it started to come back slowly over time, but EUR
96, France 98 are probably the two best Spanish shirts that

(39:19):
they've had because of how Oh, and USA not only four actually.
So that kind of three toured about because they've got such a
richness in the blue that complements that deep red and it
looks class because any then gold or yellowy trims and detail
on that kit just are like the icing on the cake.

(39:41):
I love them. I love them guys.
They're amazing. The away shirt on that one is
brilliant because I remember Raul scoring he arrow, you know?
I like how they've got the same, they've kept the same kind of
collar colour for the home and away.
But there's such a good balance between the involvement of red
and yellow on the away and then vice versa on the home.

(40:02):
Yeah. What do you think, mate?
I've I've had a little there. No no, I love to collect these.
Were these on a re release? Did they ever do a re release?
Not. Sure. 6 I think ones.
I had the home shirt and the collar was was thick.
But yeah, again, I'd like to. I'd own any of these.

(40:26):
And if you had numbers and name sets and sleeve patches on
there, I mean, you're on to a winner.
Beautiful. How can it be?
What would you would your mind still if they had them in a long
sleeve? Would you still have the same?
Feeling. Yeah, no, yeah.
Thanks for asking me that question.
That's very considerate of you. The the reason why I think the

(40:47):
home shirt would look good with the sleeve is because of the the
detailing in the blue underneathbecause it's almost like a fades
up, doesn't it like with the trim, the lines yeah, So I think
that would look brilliant in long sleeve.
I'll. Have to find a long sleeve
picture to put up. Yeah, I love them both.
Yeah, two beautiful shirts. They're my 2 front runners of
the World Cup so far. Oh, OK, just just.

(41:08):
Going to say it just. To say excellent, 2 thumbs up,
double thumbs. Double thumbs.
Excellent. All right.
Hello Austria, Cameroon and Morocco.
Uncle. This is going to be Uncle Poker.

(41:31):
This is going to be quick, mate. It's a unanimous thumbs up
because they're absolutely tremendous.
No, no, they're they're horrendous.
They're just so boring. Sorry like you.
Yeah, I think I only like the the Austria one to be honest.
Yeah, rubbish. Would you on these, right, that
looked so close to the Austrian home and away that I would

(41:55):
probably go to adjust my TV set thinking that my TV had got a
bit green from the black. They're that close, aren't they?
Yeah. I mean, if you blur your eyes at
the screen, anyone, If you're watching this on YouTube, you
could pretty much say that's Austria, right?
Yeah. Because it's a dark green.
Yeah, you're right. Yeah, Yeah.
And and also that kit in USA 94 both home and away were probably

(42:21):
the standout kits who did. They have Adidas.
Bad Adidas, they had the stripeson under the rib cage, didn't
they? And then they had the red away
and the storage calf, leche calf, you know.
So this is a bit of a let down Ithink, yeah.
Massively. Yeah, rubbish.
All right, where we going? Thumbs down.
Thumbs down, get them off. Well, that that red goes, the

(42:42):
thumb goes with it. Yeah, you know, there you go.
That's what's well, actually putthem on again.
They work. Don't you have a team?
Had a sponsor? Just a thumbs down.
Yeah. All right.
Sponsored by that 90s Premier League podcast.
That's it. All right, group, Group A.

(43:05):
Hubba hubba, hubba hubba. Semi finals.
All right, so I had the Heimer. Sold it, pissed off now.
Get it off. Let it out.
Come on, get it out. I.
Don't know why and even that away that away I think is it's
one of my favourites. It's beautiful, isn't it?

(43:26):
I see that away shirt a few times on eBay and I'm kind of
like, do I pull the trigger? Do I pull the trigger pull?
The trigger. I wonder how many people have
literally turned down the volumeon their Spotify.
Dennis Birkham. Say it again, it Dennis.

(43:47):
No, it only works when you stay at three times.
You're Dennis Durkamp. Dennis Beerkamp.
Dennis Beerkamp. Beautiful.
Yeah, I need to. My hero.
Yeah, I need to get these shirtsin my collection somehow.
Swoon. Look, I've got they're brand new
with tags as well. You see, I've left the tags on.

(44:08):
Oh, that's. Dirty.
Do you know I do I even love even more about this kit was the
socks, because the home socks were orange with black like a
thick black tape around the middle, like the Brazil and the
Italy, but they had a little black, a little white trim
around the top of them. And Oh my God, that whole kit

(44:30):
just looked incredible, like beautiful shirt.
I mean, even probably I would have worked with black shorts,
but the white shorts, orange box.
Unbelievable. I think these we talk about
front runners. I think these are my front
runners. Can we give like 2 thumbs up for
these ones? Yeah, Double, double, double
level. Yeah, There you go.

(44:54):
Excellent. All right, Who wants it next?
I can't remember. Let's have a look.
Hey, Mexico. Oh, what earth is going on here?
All right. Not a fan.
Are. You not a fan?
Are you saying not a fan? Mixed.
I don't know. Oh.

(45:14):
Jonesy. I know they're iconic shirts.
You know they you see them on Aliexpress remade and all that
stuff, but. Yeah, that's the only thing that
grinds my gears. It's I.
Think it'd be hard to get an actual original because you see
them around so many fakes. Yeah, I like the home.

(45:37):
I don't know, never really want.Oh man, you've, no, you've
really dampened my bonfire with these two, mate.
Oh, what? What don't you like about them?
I don't know, I think it's just too busy.
Too busy. OK, I love I've always loved
with Mexico kits the green whitered yes, a combination has

(46:00):
always looked lush. I love the traditional kind of
tribal print on this kit becauseit you're you're right for us to
look at these shirts now on the screen.
It does look a bit busy however. You put them on a player.

(46:20):
Yeah, it. Just it blends a bit more.
It's a bit more of a secret ingredient.
I don't know what it is. I'm I'm I'm thumb up for both.
All right. You got time out for both, OK.
What is the brand of this jerk though mate?
ABBA Sport. ABA Sport.

(46:40):
And what what is that in the middle of the away show?
Is it the word Mexico? Just as Mexico, yeah.
Not fan of that. Somebody said I didn't have it
on the home, just see a way on this.
One, yeah. I mean, it's like they kind of
thought, yeah, it's a Mexican shirt, Trust us, it's on the
shirt. It's in the middle.
All right. Next.
Did you? Sorry, did.
You give them thumbs, Did you thumbs down for them all?

(47:03):
Right, thumbs up for the home, thumb down for the way.
Sorry to our Mexican fans. Yeah, I won't be travelling
there anytime soon anyway. What?
What brand is these delightful truffles?
Belgium. Theodora is.
That Theodora. Yeah.

(47:27):
Sheffield Wednesday went Theodora in the sort of late 90s
early 2000s and it kind. Of looks, yeah.
I had Theodora boots around this.
This. Yeah, Theodora is always a good
brand. Can I, can I shock you here,
Jonesy I I just think Belgian kicks.

(47:48):
Oh God, I'm going to offend a lot of people here.
I just think they're so boring. What present day or just or or?
Present day, they've made amends.
I mean, since they introduced Tintin into my life with that
kit, I mean, you know, beautiful, but mid 90s, I mean,

(48:10):
we're talking, I think this is where they went through a dry
spell. So if we think 98 on because EUR
2000, their kit was dull. I think they even had did they
have like they had a weird kit in between that as well.

(48:31):
And I don't know if they did they qualify for World Cup 2002.
They might have done. I know they had that classic
total 90 template. Did they ever have that?
They did because they had a black away.
They did go through a dull spell, in my opinion.
And I think this just looks a little bit until they got to

(48:52):
that golden generation era. Yeah, I just, I kind of feel
like this one is like they're looking through.
Like, do you remember Sunday league used to have like the pro
* catalogue and used to kind of pick 11 of this kit for your
team on a Sunday league? I think that's what the Belgians
did. Yeah, like the flag, you can see
the flag on the on the collar, on on the sleeves and on the

(49:15):
bottom there because of the red.Yeah, but it works on the away,
but obviously it doesn't really work.
But yeah, I don't know. No, I'm not really.
I can't even remember these kids, to be honest.
That's that's. It's a bit meh, yeah.
I'm going to go thumbs down because until I put this
together I couldn't even remember.

(49:37):
I mean don't don't don't let I'mdefinitely thumbs down for these
things but don't let my opinion sway yours mate.
If you like the home. No, no, no, no.
It's done. Don't I?
It's OK. It's to put.
Would I ever buy it? Would I buy a test?
I probably wouldn't buy any of them.
So that's what I'm going through.
No, no, no. OK Oh, hello South Korea Nike

(50:01):
beauty. Lovely.
Yeah, Yeah. Home shirts.
Beautiful. Well, just so far, Nike have
delivered beautiful shirts. Well, what have you seen so far?
We've seen Holland, Nigeria, Brazil, S South Brazil.
Yeah. It's hell.
Yeah. Yeah.
Oh my God. Here we go.

(50:22):
Yeah. Thumbs up for both these.
I can't remember the teams. I can't remember Korea much
though in this tournament. So you got the group stage, so
let's just have a look. Who was in that group?
Netherlands, Mexico, Belgium, South Korea They got batted 5
nil by by Netherlands Netherlands team Koku over Mars,

(50:44):
Bergkamp and Hoydunk. Robert Reisiger, David Seidel.
Yeah, not a great World Cup fromthe bet.
Tell you what, great kids. I love them.
Yeah, beautiful. Yeah, beautiful.
Double thumbs up. I mean, I'm just looking at
their kits they've had before aswell.
I know if you can see that on myscreen, but do you remember that
one? Oh who?

(51:06):
Would they like that's their qualifying kit?
That was Nike as well. Oh.
OK. Jeez.
No, I think this one. Yeah, I like this one.
All right. Excellent Group F.
Yeah. Deutschland.

(51:27):
What are you thinking? Beautiful.
Beautiful. Yeah.
And it does. Nailed fight.
I love both of them. I even love that colour green
for the away. Like yeah, yeah, the home shirt
I can remember was just like, because I had both again.
I've sold so many France 98 shirts.

(51:49):
It's disgusting. I'm ashamed of myself.
I I sold the, I sold the home. I don't know why.
A few German shirts, to be honest.
Yeah, I mean again mate, I just,I'm not a massive fan of the
under the collar Adidas and the German badge to the side.

(52:12):
I kind of want it centred a bit more.
But then again, if you lowered the badge underneath the three
German colour stripes on the chest, I think it would probably
look odd with the numbering as well, wouldn't it?
Yeah, so I had to, Yeah, yeah, massive thumbs up.

(52:32):
I mean were. You a fan of?
Were you the fan of the Euro 96 shirts?
Yeah. Beautiful.
Yeah, yeah. Beautiful.
What was the away for EUR 96 that was Oh, that was the same
colour green, but with the. Yeah, yeah.
Stripes under the chest, isn't it?
I mean the far out. I mean World Cup 1994.
Oh, jeez. Don't.

(52:53):
Don't, Transy. Don't.
Yeah. Germany, we love you.
Yeah, we do. There you go.
Excellent. It should leave a Deutschland.
There you go. I'll be.
That's for GSPSD all. Right.
Oh, what have we got? What?

(53:17):
Yugoslavia? Yeah.
Another added S Oh, is that the same template as?
Hold on, let's go back. Yeah.
The away, definitely. Yeah, yeah.
PED dragged me out of it. Sinisa Mihailovich Savo Milos
positions. Oh God, this kit looked lovely

(53:39):
because this was again, I love adeep blue like a real Navy blue.
Like it's such a smart. Colour.
I love the numbers as well for the namesake.
Yeah, yeah, because this shirt, the home shirt had white shorts,
red socks, didn't it? Which was very French.
But obviously I think they've banged it out of the park for

(54:02):
these two. I think they're both beautiful
shirts. I'm a fan of both of them.
Yeah, I think I remember watching Yugoslavia when the
plan was back then, even then. They're just like cracking your
shirts. Yeah, great shirts.
All right, there you go. Two things up.
Yeah, excellent. All right.
Never hand humour. Boom.

(54:25):
It's just Puma. Yes, you're having a shocker.
Wow. They they really are.
But that's not even anywhere close to Cameroon or what on the
earth is going on. Bob, just have a look in the
back and see if you can only spell templates.
And the club the the country have also asked if you can put

(54:46):
the name of their country in bold across the top.
So you're doing. Cheap.
No. Nasty.
Why haven't they got the badge? I don't know.
I was thinking that when I've put this together, do I put the,
do I put the country? Badger just put Iran.
Did they have they, did they beat America in in France 98 or

(55:09):
did they draw? Because I remember they were
they, didn't they? Because there was a big song and
dance about that game I can remember.
You must say I had a shocker in that night.
They did, yeah. They're horrendous shirts though
mate. Just trying to think, yeah,
it's, I don't know what they're thinking.

(55:31):
Yeah, trash. They just literally go like,
you're like your nan's been on holiday in Turkey and she's
brought you back the favourite shirt from the local, the local
city she stayed in. It's like Iran.
Oh yeah, they could have. Done so much.
Horrible. Yeah.
What could have been, eh? Again, you're in the World Cup.

(55:53):
When was the last time Iran qualified for a World Cup?
I'd love to. I'd have to go back and have a
look what other that other shirts were like, yeah, putting
this. I forgot all about this one.
When I was putting this together, I was just like, oh.
Yeah, if you were like from the Iranian Football Association,
you were walking around Puma HQ before the World Cup.
Like Australia, Austria looks OKand Cameroons is all right and

(56:18):
because someone's going to sign is that?
Ours. Someone's going to sign off on
this. That's the properties shirt.
Someone has to sign off. All right, OK, let's go USA.
Oh, I had that white shirt. Sold it.
Did you? Yeah, I had the third shirt and
it was probably one of the worstshirts I've ever owned.

(56:38):
Which was the light blue version.
Oh yes, I remember that. But it was like a gross light
blue. It was like, I can't even
describe it mate but those shirts were like so thick.
Yes, I remember the yeah, the away.
I like the home shirt. Yeah.
Do you think out of all the Nikechoice we've seen so far, this

(57:02):
is not the best? Or what are you thinking?
Again though mate, we've we've come so far right?
USA 94 USA 94 created two of themost iconic American shirts of
all time for football shirt collectors but also well cut

(57:23):
history in my opinion in terms of how they looked right.
They just fell so short. This just again just tells me
like Pete Sampras or Andre Agassi design these.
Yes. Do you know what I mean?
You've seen it. Wimbledon, Yeah.
Yeah, they're warning like the US Open and stuff.

(57:43):
It's like it just looks so boring.
They don't look like USA kits. They're missing, isn't it?
I I did like the away. What are you thinking?
I'm thinking maybe I don't know they could have done more for
that home. So I'm going to go thumbs down,
thumbs down home, thumbs up awaybecause I actually like that.

(58:04):
I don't know why I sold it, but yeah, I don't know.
What are you thinking the? The badge deserves better.
I like the badge. I like the colour schemes.
I like the Blues, the Reds, the whites.
I like that. Both of them.
Thumbs down. OK, you go.
Yeah, not good. You go OK, Group G, Romania.

(58:30):
The blonde boys of Romania. That's it.
Bromania Adidas, what are you thinking?
As a whole kit, I love this because the shorts look great
and the socks look great. It was a very kind of like
aesthetically pleasing kit because it had the the kind of
stripes around the socks and thekind of thick banding on the

(58:51):
side of the shorts, so it lookedgreat from a whole piece.
What are you thinking? Dan Petrescu.
Yeah, Haji. Well, these were in England's
group, weren't they? Yeah, they were.
Yeah, they were the away shirts.Nice.
Yeah. Yeah, I mean, I've always I've

(59:12):
always liked the away shirt home.
Yeah, sorry, but yeah, I don't know if I'm the would I buy it
test. I'd probably I don't know.
Would I buy it? I don't know if I'd buy it.
By Yeah, probably by the away, Idon't know.
I like the away more than I likethe home, but Romanian kits have
always looked nice. And again, I keep comparing and

(59:33):
I shouldn't do, I keep comparingtheir kit to USA 94 and how much
the shirts evolved over time andhow the templates for Canes, You
know, there's such daylight between them, isn't there?
Do we need to do a USA 94 episode?
I think we do mate, because I'm just going there too much at the
moment. I think it'd be good if you did,

(59:54):
especially I say we yeah, comparing this year, I have
memories of US 94. I could be wrong because I had
probably going where I put stufftogether and see look at the
kids. But yeah, I think I have better
memories of US 94 kids. Yeah, it just seems.
I think, I think both of these are going to get a thumbs up

(01:00:18):
from me only because of the whole kit and that's what I'm
going to base it on. OK, I'm going to go thumbs down.
I could have easily done that, yeah.
Yeah, OK. Next, England.

(01:00:43):
They were OK, the Euro 96 kids. I was just.
About to say the Euro 96 ones, Ilike that away.
I don't know. I mean, there's so many memories
of that hit moments, but I wouldnever really blown away by it,
to be honest. I don't know.
We covered the torn Wah though, didn't we?

(01:01:05):
In one of our episodes with the unbroke cup and stuff, and we
said about Alan Shearer wearing the away shirt, didn't we?
And it just looked a bit, you know, I think I.
Could have done better looked yeah, they said Julian flag all
the way down yeah stripes. I mean doesn't look better in
long slave or? Again, it just wouldn't.

(01:01:28):
It wouldn't make a difference. I think because of the stripes.
It looks OK. I liked the home kit because I'm
associating memories to this kit.
I can remember. This was like a proper
devastating World Cup for me from an England perspective for
the Argentinian game and the name sets look great on the kit.

(01:01:50):
So I'm going to go thumbs up forboth.
OK. Because I think they got it
right with the badge centralisedand the Umbro, yeah, I think
they still are iconic in my mind.
It's just there's a little bit of, there's more memories than
design to this one, yeah. Yeah, you talk about memories,

(01:02:14):
the home I've always wanted to own.
I've never owned the home shirt, even as a kid.
Yeah. So I wanted it.
So I'm going to go thumbs up, thumbs up, thumbs down.
I respect that. I wasn't blown away.
I mean, I think I like the you're a 96 away, which was like
the grey was it? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think I
preferred that one. Yeah, It wasn't wasn't for me.

(01:02:39):
All right, back to Reebok, Columbia.
I'm not a fan. I don't know, just hollow shirt
something you'd. Yeah.
I'm more of a fan of the away. I am it does it.
I'm more a fan of the away than I am the home.
They look cheap. They do.

(01:03:00):
Yeah, they do. Oh God.
What was Colombia's Euro World Cup 94?
I mean, I could probably see. They were they on bro?
Were they on bro? I can't remember but I'm just
thinking but. That was the that was the
shocking when they did the one all draw with USA wasn't it?

(01:03:22):
And their guy got shot the price.
It was. Scoring the own goal.
Yeah, so that looked quick, I think.
Oh, the umbrella. Yeah, I like it.
Yeah, and that's got like the badge, like Jacquard print on
it, hasn't it? Yeah, absolutely.
Yeah. See again going from that.

(01:03:43):
That's a downgrade. How can I forget that Colombia
one? Oh yeah, People like Brazil's
and kind of template the collar and things like that.
But yeah, now going from what they had at World Cup 94 to this
Nah, downgrade. Yeah, yeah, I agree.

(01:04:04):
Yeah, sponsored by Thumbs Down. Yeah, yeah, thanks.
Which improves the share Tunisia.
Oh, hello Lotto, what are you thinking?
There's something I quite like about that shirt, Jamesy.
I know they are way more than the home.

(01:04:26):
See Lotto for me Wales. I like the Lotto Wales shirts so
always had to. Think did Wales have Lotto in
that period? 98 I think because Bobby Gold
wasn't, He was doing his business.
I think so. See.

(01:04:48):
Yeah, to go back. I quite like that.
I mean, they're quite busy, but I think they still work.
Yeah, yeah, I'm, I'm going to do.
Thumbs up, Wales could have thataway.
Yeah. I'm like a whales page on there.
Yeah, yeah, let's do it. Thumbs up for both.

(01:05:09):
Let's. Go to a quick look at Wales.
Why don't you, Nizia? Well done.
Thanks for the three points. Group H Oh.
Don't cry for me, Argentina. I know I shouldn't like these
shirts and that away shirt makesme angry.

(01:05:31):
I like them both. Yeah, yeah, I reckon it added us
to the great. Job Do you know who really
annoyed me in the World Cup thatyear?
Was Ariel Ortega, and he was good.
He annoyed me. Yes.
They had such a good team. Busy.
Yeah, just bad. Such a good side there, didn't

(01:05:52):
they? And I think, yeah, because they
had what, bass they were up front.
Simeoni Veron. Yeah.
Crespo. A young Crespo.
Yeah, yeah, they. Ortega, Ayala, Javier Zanetti.
They beat they beat Jamaica 5 nil, didn't they?

(01:06:12):
They had a very good side, yes. Yeah, that home shirt is, I
think, probably one of their best home shirts of all time.
Yeah. OK, thumbs up for both they they
are very classy. Yeah, yeah.
I would buy. I would.
I would quite happily. What do you think?

(01:06:35):
Yeah, I'm doing the same. Iconic, I think I would say for
the wrong reasons for England fans.
What about the design perspective though?
From a kit collector's point of view, what do you like?
Yeah. So I like, I actually like how
the three stripes on the Homeworks on the sleeve.
Yeah, because if you took that kind of black away, you know,

(01:06:56):
like the black trim down there and just left it, I don't know,
I think it adds a little bit to it.
Yeah, the collar looked great onthat one.
Yeah, you got the three stripes. They're doing well with the
three stripes on the collar, thesleeves.
Yeah, I like it anyway as well. Yeah, they're done well.
Very similar to the Yugoslavian home, the away of.

(01:07:16):
Course, Yeah. Yeah, you're spot on.
Yeah, good colour though. I like it there.
You go, Yeah, thumbs up, thumbs up.
Yeah, excellent. All right, Lotto, just pointing
out there right, This group. What are we now group HI think I
think it's my favourite of shirts.

(01:07:39):
I like this. Do you like this one?
Croatia or Croatia? Semi final.
I've got that one. I've got the home shirt.
Yeah, and for some reason, I don't know, it's not arrogance,
guys, but I forgot I had it. It's in my piles somewhere.
Hey, that's my line. It's annoying because now I say

(01:07:59):
I'm kind of thinking, but yeah, you're right.
Because this is Argentina, Jamaica, Japan, Croatia.
Oh, Japan. Oh my.
God, that's what I'm saying. I mean, we haven't got there
yet. But this is a shark collector's
dream group. This is this is my favourite,
favourite group. I think both shirts are
incredible. Look at that away.
Yeah, that's how you've done. Well, do you think the

(01:08:22):
difference between that Tunisia one?
Let's just have a look. Yeah.
So they're kind of, yeah, completely different.
Massively different. Yeah, put a lot more effort I
think into oh that that Tunisia 1 is busy.
Yeah. But this is yeah, I liked how

(01:08:44):
they did with the with the home.Yeah.
Just that red, not all, yeah, yeah, just I wonder, I'd love to
speak to a designer. Just think, you know what, let's
just do half or not even that little quarter, just.
Nice isn't? It yeah it works.

(01:09:05):
That, yeah, I really like it, yeah.
How do you reckon if they just, if they did that red, that
pattern all the way through, do you think, would you still like
it? Yeah, I mean that was their
you're an only 6 kit, wasn't it?The actual home share of that.
So just kind of shortened it andI think there's not.

(01:09:25):
The thing with Croatia kits is there isn't really much you can
do. With.
Croatia kits because of their chequered history and kit colour
and whatnot. So I suppose you have to vary a
little bit and add a bit more white or a bit more red or more
checkers. So I think this one is a lovely

(01:09:45):
because it's probably just enough checker on the home shirt
to make it look like a home shirt.
Yeah, because after this they goto Nike.
Yeah, both lovely shirts, both thumbs up for me.
Yeah, that's what I was saying. It's one of my favourite groups,
I think. Look at that right next,

(01:10:07):
Jamaica. I've got it on.
Do we need to speak about it's just going straight thumbs?
You could mate. Kappa, I mean with the South
African one as well. Like they, they, they got it
right, didn't they? They did they.
They really did the home and thethe away looks great.

(01:10:30):
I mean, the only thing I'm goingto say about the away shirt,
right, is if it was a black collar as opposed to yellow?
OK. That's the only thing that I can
probably go do. You know what?
It's that. But that's nitpicking because I
think both those shirts are glorious.

(01:10:51):
Yeah, I'm going. Thumbs up.
Excellent. Look at that.
Have you ever seen the DOA1 for sale?
Nope. No, not at all the same.
Yeah. All right, let's go to Japan
ASICS. Oh, Japan.
Japan. Japan, another one who have They

(01:11:11):
do well in the kit department, don't.
They I just, yeah, I just don't think they have ever had a bad
kit ever. No.
In any tournament. Was this the?
One where they went to Adidas. Was it before?
They they went to Adidas in Korea, Japan, didn't they?
Yeah, there was something. Let me just have a look.

(01:11:32):
There was some. Didn't they have the same
pattern? Yes, they did.
No. No, it wasn't.
It was before that wasn't it? That was.
Before that, yeah. Puma.
Yeah, you're right. Puma also, they had this time,
yeah, to in 1996, they had this same.
It was a different shirt, obviously, but they kept the

(01:11:53):
same kind of flame thing kind ofgoing through.
Yeah, because that's the one that we mentioned was weird at
the Umbro Cup, wasn't it? Yes, yeah, yes, of course LDS.
LDS had the Umbro Cup. Yeah.
The I mean, we, we don't mentionthe goalkeeper kit in this
tournament, do we? The flames greatest one of the

(01:12:14):
greatest goalkeeper kits of all time.
Yes, absolutely. Ethics.
Didn't mess around with goalkeeper kits mate.
They're just phenomenal, both those kits, aren't they?
They just work. Wow.
Thumbs up for both Japan. I adore you.
Right? Your kits are incredible.
We love you. We love you.
I'd love to own that shirt, Yeah, but if I'd love to own

(01:12:35):
most of them, actually, apart from Saudi Arabia.
And it's funny though how that, and it's funny though how the
kit itself though, is just made brilliant with the flame on the
sleeve and that's it. Yeah.
It's not busy, it's not too much, it's just the flame.
Beautiful. Yeah, absolutely.

(01:12:57):
Oh, just staring at it. Glorious.
He's a big Essex fan. Yeah.
Love it. All right, so your front runner
was. Who are you going for?
I think I went for the Netherlands, didn't I?
Spain. Spain.
Yeah, Yeah, Spain were yours. But I completely forgot Japan.
I completely forgot Holland. I completely forgot Croatia.

(01:13:21):
Oh goodness. Yeah.
How do you that's it, 32 teams done.
A very strong World Cup. I just think there were a couple
that were let down by their manufacturers and I think Puma
disappeared when it came to makeit Rans kit and I don't know
what happened there but. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
Yeah. But yeah, from a childhood, good

(01:13:43):
memories A. Lot of days of school,
Absolutely, yeah. I mean, yeah, I mean, you had to
get through Kilroy and can't cook, won't cook before, before
lunchtime, before you could get to.
Kilroy. Yeah, yeah.
Hurry up, Rob. Yeah.
Excellent. Yeah, there's Lynam.

(01:14:04):
Like, now, actually, would this have been Gary Limaker's first
World Cup? I know he had a bit more of a
dint, didn't he? But yeah, I can remember the
kind of theme tune for this, theWorld Cup, the kind of.
Yeah, like the weather was great, the teams were good, the
matchups were great. You know, I think it was a very
successful World Cup all round, if I'm honest.

(01:14:27):
Yeah, computer game was great. The sticker book was great.
Well, I shared that Instagram yesterday of the intro for the
World Cup 98 game, and yeah, jeez, Chumbawamba.
Excellent. All right, cool.
Let's get to let's get out of here.
All right then, we're back in the game.

(01:14:48):
Do you enjoy that one? Yeah, brilliant, brilliant.
Again, a very nostalgic trip forme because the World Cup was,
that was, I mean, I, I did remember a lot of USA 94, but I
think this World Cup in particular was a proper deep
dive for me. It was like, get the TV Guide,
get the sticker album. Like everything, I immersed

(01:15:09):
myself fully in this World Cup. Excellent.
All right. What's next, Jonesy?
I know how much you loved that game show last week.
I did. Yeah.
I did another one. All right, Yeah.
Let me just hit that music. Here we go.
TV's biggest game show it Jonesy's price is.

(01:15:43):
Right Jonesy's. Welcome to Jonesy's Price is
Right. Oh, dear.
Come on down. Nice to see you to see you nice.
All right, welcome. All right, this one is a quick
one. I'm knocked up as well, but.
Should I pretend to, like, run down some steps at that point?
Like, yeah. Nice.
If you want to just go do it, yeah, do it.
Come on down. All right, Good game, good game.

(01:16:07):
OK, so this one I've just got just literally 5 pieces of World
Cup 98 memorabilia. Yeah, yeah, it's literally I
don't know, I don't even think about it.
You just kind of got to get see how close you can get to the
price. Yeah, I'm on it.
Anything yeah, go anything you can guess you win.
The postage is pretty bad from over here so.

(01:16:30):
Yeah, you win virtually. So the first one is a World Cup
98 collector's fridge magnet. So these are off vintage.
Look how cute. That is, that'll take up your
whole fridge. That fridge magnet?
Look how big it is. Is that all one fridge magnet?
The portrait of it. No, no, no.
Just the God, yeah. Sorry, yeah, just the World Cup.

(01:16:53):
I was going to say. It's the Paul Ince.
Yeah. OK.
Just the graphics behind it. All right, So this is a vintage.
What are you thinking? How much?
How much do you think it's worth?
For Paul in Fridge Fridge I'm going to go 8 lbs.

(01:17:14):
It's £2. I would have masterfully over
purchased. My weight.
Would you get to some of them? It's being sold for two.
Would you take 8? All right, item number.
What? Is this do you remember?

(01:17:35):
Yeah. Do you remember them from the
Nesquik cereal? It was like it made no sense.
It didn't look like anything. They just whacked the France 98
thing on the back. I really do remember.
This yeah sorry it was a France so it's yeah Nestle 1998 nest
quick kicking football. I was like yeah, do you remember

(01:17:59):
digging deep into the nest quickserial to pull one of them Yeah
I mean yeah, you want some enemy.
What kits is that Brazil like? They haven't even.
Yeah, this is probably like the bit where it's supposed to be
like R9, but it looks nothing like it.
I'm like. No, Yeah, yeah, so do you.
Remember that now. Probably 20 previous owners.
It's not in the best condition. What do you think?

(01:18:20):
How much? How much I'm going to pay for
that? Oh my God, I'm going to pay
£1.50. It's £4 on Vincent 4.
Quid. Yes, that's worth more than a
Pauline's fridge magnet. Get out of town.

(01:18:40):
OK, next one. I've gone through the best stuff
here. OK, a World Cup 98 Hewlett
Packard sweatshirt. That is horrible, isn't it
Hewlett Packard as well? That is horrible.
And this is actually official merch as well, so I I have no
way. So the the it's a sweatshirt.

(01:19:02):
We're just World Cup 1998 and some kind of random drawing of
someone kicking a ball. It's not even, it hasn't even
got the official Yeah. Absolute clipart special, that
one isn't it? Yep.
So Hewlett Packard, who obviously probably one of the
sponsors, this is what they brought out as it might be like
a promo. Yeah.

(01:19:24):
I can buy a computer, get a sweatshirt.
I wouldn't even want to pay a fiver for that, but I know it's
probably I'm going to go a fiver.
Jonesy, are you serious £50? This is going for excellent mate
Gods. That doesn't even look like a

(01:19:46):
World Cup top. Oh.
I love the description this thismen's black Hewlett Packard
World Cup 1998 football sweatshirt is a vintage gem.
Course it is, and it's got and it's got one interested person
as well. One person likes it.
Oh God. OK, no, that's not good.

(01:20:07):
OK, all right, this one is a France 98 plug.
All right, so you're going to have to put out a stupid price
for this one because they reckoned it was a limited
edition, but I don't think so. I think it's just a box

(01:20:27):
standard, you know, number #2 or500 made or something.
I don't think so. So the description is new, not
box, never been used, so there'sno coffee stains in there.
You're going to have to gift. Give me the most stupidest
number I think. I'm going to say £25. 103.

(01:20:51):
That's. 93 and it says 2 watchesas well people 2 two people are
what a. £103.93 That is offensive, isn't it?
Yeah, all right. And the main prize.
Let's see the last one. The England squad.

(01:21:15):
Yeah, I've got it here. That's so cool.
Yeah. Brilliant. 5 as well.
Do you remember the final five? Nope.
What was that? So we say so.
Obviously they brought out the book and then they just added a
couple of five players. So you got and Paul Merson,
Robert Lee, Darren Anderson and Lesford and Crikey.

(01:21:35):
What do How did they? Did they come in like crisps,
those coins or not? I think it's a Sainsbury's.
It's a Sainsbury's book. Of course it was.
Yeah. Brilliant, love that.
All right, so this one you're going to have to put out the
most stupidest answer. Ever.

(01:21:55):
If it's less than the mug, then it's more than the mug.
We're we're done. More than the mug.
Yeah, 120. Keep going, No 150.
Keep going. Are you serious?
All right, this is on Vintage for £300.

(01:22:18):
The world has gone mental. And it has one Interested. £300
they're not even legal tender. Well, this is going on eBay.
I was going to stay you. You must literally be like 300.

(01:22:38):
Maybe you sold that for 200. Undercut that guy.
That's what you said, yeah. You, you've got a lot of love
for vintage, but deep dive, mate, Yeah, there's a lot of
Rongans out there. There are.
Massively. Yeah.
And whoever is selling that Hewlett Packard jumper for £50,
a shame on you. Excellent.

(01:23:01):
So that was the price is right. All right, let's get out of here
back in the. Room Yeah, I yeah, well, I was,
I was just thinking that I I generally love that game show,
but in the same sense, I just lose a lot of faith in the world
when you see those items being sold at those prices.
Not good. No, no.

(01:23:22):
I was just looking through. It's just like, Jesus, I talked
France 98 in and then I just started seeing some ridiculous
stuff and I was just like. Yeah, another rabbit hole to
fall down, but then again, you're like, what on Earth?
But that was France 98, mate. There we go.
There we go. Do you enjoy that?
Yeah. Loved it.
Into the kids. Yeah.
Yeah, I know. I still spam a break.

(01:23:44):
Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely.
I could have a phone now. Look, we do and I think what we
need to now obviously ask our listeners is what did you think
of France, Danny? I know it's not Premier League,
I know it's international, but if you want us to continue doing
these ones for kids because I think these kits ones do very
well. We've got obviously EUR 19, six

able to find a France 98 gem classic football shirts.

(01:25:34):
I mean, I had that they put thatthat Tintin Belgium shirt on
there. They did.
Yeah. Yeah.
I'm, I'm still waiting for that.Yeah, I might.
