9-1-1.
What's your emergency?
Welcome back to That Weewoo Show, apodcast where we watch and discuss
episodes of the A B C show, 9-1-1.
(00:23):
I'm Bex,
I'm Alice.
And I'm Ellen.
Thank you to everyone who has listenedto our episodes so far, who have shared
our social media posts and have ratedus on Spotify and Apple Podcasts, or
Spotify and Apple Podcasts and YouTubeand wherever it is else that you are
listening to us, we do appreciate it.
(00:45):
We haven't done this for a while.
Uh, we mentioned in the last episodethat we had, uh, some of us had
some deadlines that prevented usfrom, um, getting episodes out.
So, apologies in advance for this episode.
I'm not sure how long it's gonna takeus to get back into the swing of it.
Um, we may be a little bit punchy, sojust be warned for whatever comes next.
(01:15):
Um, but before we get into whatevercomes next, Alice, would you like to tell
us what happened in the last episode?
Uh, so last week on 9-1-1, Eddie lostit at his son's charming teacher, Anna,
after Christopher was injured tryingto ride a classmate's skateboard.
That was a run on sentence and a half, andJosh from dispatch was assaulted during
(01:35):
what was supposed to be a first date.
Poor Josh.
So in this episode, we're gonna bediscussing season three, episode 13,
which is called "Pinned", which firstaired on the 30th of March in 2020.
And the official summary says thatthe 118 responds to accidents at a
bowling alley and a home renovation.
(01:58):
So we, yeah, there is a AthenaPursues a car thief in the summary,
but that was cut from the episode.
Another one of those.
So we'll just skip right over that andgo to Bobby and Michael, take Harry
camping and chimney and Maddie rush intoaction when their romantic dinner date.
Takes a wild turn.
I just realized.
So "Pinned" aired five years agotoday from when we're recording.
(02:24):
Oh, it's the 30th.
Oh my goodness.
Because it's currently the 30th of March.
So five years ago today this episodeaired we're, we're actually up to date.
We have caught, we're right onschedule now, but five years ago.
Geez, that feels likea really long time ago.
Yeah.
Right?
So yeah, we better just mentionthat there are some triggers
(02:44):
for this episode as usual.
Um, or as bex likes to call them, traumas.
Um, we've got theaccidental nail gun injury.
We have discussion of cancerand possible parental death.
We have gore, plenty of bloodand a compound fracture and
(03:04):
the threat of gun violence.
So we're, first up, we've got thisbowling alley trauma, no, injury.
I'm pretty sure traumais a good word for it.
I don't think anybody'sgetting out of this lightly.
No, no.
It's pretty gruesome.
(03:25):
I love the, um, these people who workin this bowling alley are like the
perfect encapsulation of like thepeople who work at these kind of places.
Like you've got this olderlady who is, um, just trying
to get stuff done in the place.
Like she's, she sounds tired and kind oflike she's over it and the young guy is.
(03:47):
You know, really excited about everything.
He's like, I'm gonna be,I'm management material.
And then the other guy who works forthem is just like the teenager who's
looking at his phone all the time.
So it, I thought the characterizationwas like very, I, I don't wanna
say stereotypical, but it was, youknow Right, right on the money for
(04:07):
Yeah, we, we've all hadthose coworkers in retail.
Yes.
Yes.
So the 9-1-1 Wiki would like us to knowthat the actor that plays Garrett, in
this episode was in the Christmas episodea few weeks ago, and he was the, do you
remember the first scene with the womantrying to get the, the dancing duck toy?
(04:31):
And she like, runs up to the firstemployee that she can find and
she's like, "I need this duck."
And he's just like, "It's overthere." Apparently that was the same
actor that was so, um, yeah, he's,
oh, that was, yeah.
Jesse, not Garrett.
Yeah.
So he is been typecast.
He must have done a really good job ofjust looking like he didn't give a shit.
(04:55):
Um, I have just like summarized theentire beginning of this scene, but,
um, we can say that Garrett is, he'sdone everything that, that, that
Arlene, who's the, the manager hasasked for before she even asked for it.
And apparently Jesse, who'sthe, the guy who doesn't give
a shit is the owner's son.
(05:18):
Uh, sister's son.
It's, it's a family.
Oh, her sister?
Yeah.
Okay.
That's right.
It's family connections.
He's a Nepo baby.
So Jesse comes over and says that oneof the lane five is down and he doesn't,
he doesn't wanna go and fix it, soArlene is gonna go and fix it, and
Garrett is supposed to be going home.
(05:39):
So.
Jesse is looking after the, the desk orwhatever, but he's not paying attention.
And some girls come up and say thattheir scoring system isn't working,
so they're gonna go on lane on lanefive and he's just like, whatever.
Just, eh.
So this is so gross.
So Ali Arlene's in the back of the, um,
(06:02):
hang on, hang on.
We have to acknowledge
we have to mention the song first.
Yeah.
We have to acknowledge theSupernatural connection with this.
Oh yeah.
I forgot that
episode.
And this scene in particular becauseas Arlene goes back to fix lane five.
Um, we get a montage of how the, um, thepin setter of how a pin setter works.
(06:24):
So we see somebody bowl a frame,we see the machine come down, pick
up this, the remaining pins cyclethrough the old pins, return the
ball through the ball return system.
And the music that's playing through thisscene is "Feel it Still" by Portugal,
the Man, which, if you are coming to usfrom the Supernatural fandom, and I think
(06:45):
specifically the dusti side of the fandom.
I don't know how widely across thefandom this is known, but there is
a very famous video fan edit, um,set to Portugal The Man's "Feel it
Still", um, called the technical, the,the true actual name for it is "Dean
(07:06):
Winchester Rebel Just for Kicks".
But I think everybody justknows it as "the clicky edit".
Yeah, it's the clicky edit to the point,
to the point where if I type supernaturalclicky edit into YouTube, this is
the first video that it gives me.
Yeah.
I don't know if it's as widelyknown as it, it might be widely
known in our like circle, but
(07:29):
No, it's, it's in like Tumblr quiz.
It's in like, um, yeah.
Quizzes and stuff.
Like how deep in the Supernaturalfandom you are, and it's like, how many
times have you watched the clicky edit?
Yeah.
No, I recently, I shared it with someonethis week after watching this episode, and
they did, they had never seen it before.
I'm like, how, how have you not seen this?
Like, it's like the, the Tom Hollandumbrella thing that you, you, if
(07:54):
you see it, you have to share it.
You have to watch it five times
You have to watch it.
Yeah.
You have to watch it twice.
Yes.
And then share it once.
It just, the laws of clicky.
The clicks and everything.
It just scratches yourbrain just the right way.
It's,
so, the, the law for the clicky edit, for those of you who haven't, um,
encountered it before is as soon as youhear Portugal, the man out in the wild,
you immediately have to either watchthe clicky edit or you have to like
(08:16):
share it somebody going like, I heardthe song now you gotta watch the edit.
Yeah.
It's like, um, there's a really goodDestiel edit to "Bat Outta Hell".
And it's one of my favorite edits.
It's just done so well, it's likefully their story from start to finish.
Yes.
Um, set to "Bat Outta Hell".
Doesn't it go for like the whole song too?
Like it's,
it's literally the whole song.
(08:37):
It's like an eight minute edit.
It's amazing.
And it, um, for a while, "Bat OuttaHell" was on my work playlist.
Like, it was like on, like,I don't set the playlist.
It's like a um, head office setplaylist and "Bat Outta Hell" was on it.
And so.
Like every couple days when it had reloopthe playlist, I'd be like, oh, rules and
(08:58):
have to post the Bat Outta Hell edit.
Um, but I'd also be like, oh, I just haveto go on a break and I'd have to sit there
and watch eight minutes of this edit.
Oh.
Because it's just, it's so good.
And then it was taken offYouTube and I was so sad.
I literally found the creator onTumblr and messaged her and they, um,
got back and like sent me the edit.
(09:19):
So it's on my phone now.
It's not on, it's not on anymore?
It came back.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
Yeah.
I haven't watched it for a long time.
Now you're gonna have to send it to me
I haven't watched it in ages, but yeah,
rules are rules.
The other thing that is notablespecifically for 9-1-1 purposes is
(09:40):
that obviously the song came on aswe were, as I was watching it for,
uh, the purposes of writing notes.
So I immediately had to go and watchthe edit and it was, it's taken me this
long to click that the actor who playsEli in 9-1-1 was also in Supernatural.
Yeah?
Yeah.
(10:02):
Who does he play in Supernatural?
It's one of those things I don't... He'sone of the hunters at Asa Fox's funeral.
So it's like it's, he'sonly in a couple of scenes.
He, one episode, but I don't know, maybeI haven't watched Supernatural enough
since I've started watching 9-1-1 too.
Have picked or I haven'twatched that season.
'cause that was like the Mary Winchesterseason, so not, not a favorite.
(10:24):
Um, yeah.
But yeah,
we know it just from clicky,
but yes.
So "Feel it Still" is playing.
We see how a pin set works.
Um, and Arlene basically climbs into thepin setter from the back rooms to try
(10:46):
and clear a pin that has been jammed.
Yeah.
Which is why she told Jessie to puta sign up and not let anybody use
lane five, because as the girls bowlof frame and the pin setter moves to
reset their pins with Arlene's armhalfway stuck inside the machine,
(11:10):
she's got a split second to go Oh shit.
Before the machine starts tomove with her arm inside it.
Yeah.
It's gross.
Ouch.
Yeah, I am I am actually verysurprised that it did just did
not take her arm off completely.
Yeah.
I thought when, okay, so after her armgets crushed and you can kind of see that,
(11:34):
and the girl who is about to bowl again, she picks up a ball that's come through
the machine and it's covered in bloodand she's got blood all over her hands.
Mm-hmm.
And I was fully expecting like the ballreturn to come up with Arlene's hand.
Oh.
I was like, no.
Got cut completely off andjust came through the system.
(11:54):
But no, they didn't quite go that far.
I mean, that would be cool, but Idon't think that that's 9-1-1 shtick.
No.
Maybe on Supernatural.
They might have done that.
Definitely.
on Supernatural.
Yeah.
Yeah, they would.
Yeah.
Yeah, for sure.
But anyway, there's some quality screaminggoing on here, like Arlene screams
and then the girl with the, with the,the blood all over her hands screams.
(12:17):
Mm-hmm.
Apparently she call, when she calls 9-1-1,she calls 9-1-1 with her bloody hands and
says "The bowling balls are bleeding."
I mean, she probably reported itto Jesse, who was just like, okay,
yeah.
It's like, I don't, what doyou want me to do about it?
Because when the 118 arrive, Bobbystrides right up to the counter and
(12:40):
goes, "Hey, are you in charge here?"And Jesse just goes, "I guess."
Oh dear.
Can't get good help these days.
Apart from the guy who just left, excepthe hasn't left because, uh, Garrett
races up and says, "Thank God you'rehere. This way." And then he just takes
(13:00):
them off and he explains everythingabout what had happened, even though
he wasn't supposed to be there anymore.
But he knows,
yeah, he is in control.
And
he shut off the power, which is good.
Arlene is still screaming whenthey come around to find her.
Yeah.
I have a feeling that Garrett just sawthe girls screaming and the ball bleeding
(13:21):
and put two and two together and.
Hasn't actually gone backaround maybe to find Arlene yet.
So she's still calling for help thinkingthat nobody has, nobody has heard her.
Nobody is coming.
Yeah.
Well, I mean maybe the, thegirls like no one tweaked that
where the blood was coming from.
Like I,
oh, probably nobodydid except for Garrett.
(13:42):
Garrett's gone, oh, lanefive, blood, shit, Arlene.
Yeah,
maybe he was out in the parking lotand saw the, the 118 roll up and then
raced inside to see what was happening.
Who knows.
But the good thing is that he ison the case and the 118 are on
the case and Buck is on the case.
(14:03):
Buck is on the case.
They're all standing around on topof the machine to work out how try,
like, she's got a compound fracture.
So there is actually, like, youcan, at one point you can see
like bone sticking out of her.
It's extremely gruesome.
Whereas Chimney says her, um, herarm is like a ba, a wet bag of rocks.
(14:24):
Yeah.
How broken the bones are.
Lovely visual.
And if it, so yeah, if they justrelease the whole thing, you
know, it's, she's gonna be worse.
Yeah.
Bobby asks, um, how torelease the pin setter.
'cause obviously it's liftedhalfway up and stopped and so they
(14:44):
wanted to probably come back down.
So there is a little winchy thingthat you can put into a part up
the front and you can manuallylift it and lower it as necessary.
Um,
the, the part that they had that like, does that, it looks exactly like the thing
that raises and lowers my outdoor blind.
(15:04):
Yeah.
Oh, it's just a little winchy thing.
It's literally just, yeah.
Pretty standard issue.
Um, but then the issue yes, is theycould lower it, but then what are they
gonna do once they get it lowered?
Because they can't get her armout of the pin setter because
it's, it's a wet bag of rocks.
Yeah.
She needs to hold her arm in place.
(15:25):
Yeah.
Which is when Buck comes up with thesomewhat brilliant idea to use the pin
setter framework itself as the splint.
Yeah.
Buck's not just a pretty face,
not in this one anyway.
In some episodes he very muchis just a pretty face and
the, the audience stand in.
But in this one he gets touse his brains a little bit.
(15:46):
Yeah.
He, he has the brain cell episode.
It's very exciting.
But then they go on and get a welderor whatever you call that thing.
I guess it's a welder?
Yeah.
It's a stick welder.
Yes.
And I dunno, does a welder do welding.
I, I'm not a tool person.
Um, they like Buck is the one withall of the eye protection and gear
(16:09):
on and the rest of them are juststanding around looking at it.
Yeah.
Don't look directly at a welder.
They don't even give Arlene, any eye protection or anything.
They just start welding like rightnext to her arm, which is not ideal.
No.
They should have at least thrown one oftheir turnout coats over her or something
to give her a little bit of protection.
(16:31):
Yeah, I mean, there's sparksflying all over the place.
You just have to look away from them.
But yeah,
anyway, for the drama,um, they cut her out.
Yes.
And she sounds like she's in somuch pain when they pick up the
metal part that's around her arm.
But they do manage to push her out.
(16:51):
They get her onto a gurney with her metalthing and push her out of the alley.
And for once Buck actually knowssomething pop culturey because as they
push Arlene out of the bowling alleytowards the front doors, he does his
best, um, German accent, which, you know,it's his best, but it's still not good.
(17:14):
Um.
And mangles a quote from the Terminatorsaying like, "living tissue under a
metal endoskeleton." And I was just sohappy for him that he actually had a
movie reference for once because the,
yeah, this what happens when hehangs out with Chim, apparently
the Buckleys know nothingabout pop culture.
(17:36):
I don't think they wereallowed a television,
probably not.
And then Eddie, of course, has to stompall over him and tell him that he's
getting the quote wrong, which yes, he is.
But at least he recognized that thequote in some form was applicable Yeah.
To this situation.
Just let him have it Edmundo.
(17:57):
And the look that Buckgives him is like, dude,
to the point where Buck, yeah.
Buck's just starts, um, sulking.
Like he can't just let me enjoy the win.
And then Dad has to turn aroundjust like pacify the situation
with like your "Good job, Buck."
Have a cookie.
And then, and Bobby also says, that saysto Garrett, um, yeah, Garrett a good job.
(18:23):
"Good job Buck, you too, Garrett." And um,Arlene then tells Garrett that, I don't
know if they've given her some pain reliefby now, but she doesn't sound like she,
oh God, I hope so.
She lost a lot of blood, so who knows.
Um, and then Garrett's like, "No, no, I'llgive everyone a coupon for another visit."
And Arlene says, "You arein charge, Manager." Yes.
(18:46):
And he's like, ah,
very savvy.
Yay.
First, first order of business.
And then he, he turns around andhe looks straight at Jesse and
then he just goes, "You're fired."
And I love the way the actor does this'cause he like snap and points at Jesse.
He's like, you're fired.
And then.
Turns away with like, this pleasedgrin on his face and walks away
(19:09):
and Jesse's just left there.
Like, huh?
Yeah.
So we didn't actually get the episodetitle said in this scene, but it's very
No, but she was very pinned.
Yeah.
She was pinned like bya literal pin setter.
So I think it counts.
Mm-hmm.
Yes.
I didn't make that connection at the time.
(19:33):
Okay.
We're going to Michael's place.
Mm-hmm.
Where Hen was is visiting.
I did not notice this, that Nia was there.
Why is Nia there?
Because Karen would be at work, sosomebody's gotta look after the baby.
They also just likeforgot about it last week.
(19:55):
So they're just like, shit.
No, I have, I'm having a feelingthat, um, Hen came over to
Michael's and Nia was fussing.
It must have been like nap time.
So she's just like, "Can I puther down for her nap here?"
Yeah.
Okay.
Maybe she'd hoped that she'd fallasleep in the car on the ride over
or something and it didn't work out.
She was just like, just let me puther down and then we can catch up and
(20:17):
do whatever it is we needed to do.
It's fine.
They just wanted us all toremember that Nia exists.
Yeah.
Basically it was, it was avery clever way of just, yeah.
Remember guys that he Hen andKaren are fostering a child.
This is the child.
Yes.
But it wasn't like shoving it down ourthroat or, or having a, a big, it was just
this little tiny snippet of there's a baby
(20:37):
and Hen's trying to forceMichael to drink some green tea.
But even though he says he does,he's not a green tea kind of guy.
But Hen's, like "Apparently theEGCG in green tea can boost the
effectiveness of the temozolomide."I've probably pronounced that
(20:58):
totally wrong, but I don't care.
So apparently the, it can make the chemodrugs work better on the brain tumor.
Thank you for explaining that, Michael.
But he does drink it and um, youknow, it's not that terrible.
So Hen has apparently comeover to give Michael her tent.
(21:22):
Did not take Hen for the campingtype, but she has a tent that she's
willing to give to Michael becausehis got lost somewhere in the move.
Not sure how you lose a tentin the move, but anyway.
Well, I would assume that if it's not athis place, it would still be at Athena's.
Yeah.
Maybe Michael's not talkingto Athena right now.
(21:44):
So Athena's just like, yeah, Ifound his fucking tent, but go
give him yours because I'm mad athim and maybe he'll listen to you.
I,
I don't know.
It's a good, it's a niceway to set up the, the duals
back and forth that we have.
'cause we hadn't have a conversationabout why Michael needs the
tent, um, happening from both.
Michael and Hen and then alsofrom Athena and Bobby and it kind
(22:08):
of cuts backwards and forwards.
So they are, um, Michaeland Harry are going camping.
'cause apparently that's traditioneven though, and we cut to the Athena
residents where Athena and Bobby arecarrying groceries into the house.
(22:28):
Um, even though Athena says thatit's foolish because he's got a brain
tumor, he shouldn't be going camping.
Yeah.
And just then May comes in and shewas really happy about something, but
then when she hears about the camping, she stops being happy basically.
Yeah.
He's like, wait, they'restill going camping.
(22:50):
Like he has a brain tumor, butBobby is gonna go along too.
And we go back to Michael'sand he's saying Bobby is an
EMT, but he's not a doctor.
And.
Yeah.
But Michael is reassuring her saying,I still need to go on this trip.
Yeah.
So the first time I watched this episode,I absolutely thought that something awful
(23:12):
was gonna happen to Michael while camping.
Yeah.
They, they're set sort ofsetting it up for that.
And, and Michael does say that he'staken him every year and they need
to make sure this time is memorable, just in case there isn't another time.
And we go back to the Athena Houseand May says that it's all her fault.
(23:35):
And Athena and Bobby are both like, "no,it's not your fault at all," you know?
And then Bobby said, "you know, we,we said we'd support him when he
decided not to have the surgery." AndAthena's like, "No, you said that.
I haven't given up on the idea ofknocking some sense into him." So,
and then after that May sort ofgoes, "oh, by the way, I got into
USC." And so then they're excited, except May isn't, she just leaves.
(24:02):
Poor thing.
She was so excited about thatand she was so looked, so excited
to share that news and that thatmoment has now been ruined for her.
So from the Bathena residence,we go to the Han residence,
I'm assuming later that night.
Who knows timeline wise, but it's nighttime.
(24:23):
Um, and Chim has emerged from hisbedroom to get a drink from the, the
fridge when he hears noises from theliving room slash Albert's bedroom.
And he goes over to turn thelamp on and a half undressed
woman pops up from the couch.
(24:43):
Yeah.
To Chimney's shock.
"You are not Albert!"
that's not Albert.
And then Albert pops upand he's also half naked.
I like how Albert's nowstarted calling him Chimney.
That's great.
I love that.
So obviously they told himwhy Howard is called Chimney.
(25:04):
Well, I don't know ifthey told him, but, but,
or he did just seeeverybody else doing it.
So he is just,
yeah, everyone else is calling him that.
Yeah, I think so.
Yeah.
Um, so Megan is the, the half undressedwoman is just as surprised to see Chimney
as Chimney is to see her, because shedidn't know that Albert had a roommate.
(25:24):
I'm like, lady, she, you were about tohave sex with him on the couch, don't
you think if that was his apartment, you would've gone to his bedroom?
I mean, maybe
I, I'm glad that Megan gets a name
in this episode.
We find out quite a bitabout Megan in this episode.
I'm very, we do, I'mvery pleased with that.
(25:46):
She's only in it for five minutes, but you know, we do get some details.
So she scurries off to get dressedin the bathroom and the, the
brothers have a bit of a standoff.
I did love in the comments that you referto this sort of scene as Albert 1.0.
Well, yeah.
I mean, it sounds like he's been sleepingaround a bit since he arrived, according
(26:10):
to Chim, after, after Megan leaves.
Yeah.
And last week's episode he was on a date.
Yeah.
But yeah, Chim describes her as a RandoClub girl and you know, then she comes
in and goes, "Oh, I'm actually workingon a PhD in Applied Mathematics."
No, no, no, no.
It's even better because Chim goes like,"You brought some Rando Club girl to my
(26:33):
home?" And Albert's like, "Bro, did younot see how hot Rando Club girl was?"
So Albert doesn't even rememberher name at this point.
And so then she emerges and goes, "um,Rando Club girl is actually working on
a PhD in Applied Mathematics." To whichChimney very gallantly says, "I apologize,
Doctor, I wasn't trying to disparage you.
(26:55):
I was trying to disparage him."
Yeah.
She does accept their apology andthen leaves and Albert's like,
"oh, I wish I'd gotten her number,"
Dude.
But the point of this scene is not so muchAlbert's slutting it up in Los Angeles,
(27:16):
but that Chim is no longer slutting it up.
Um, in fact, he's not slutting it at all.
He's having very boring, vanilla, monogamous sex maybe
once a week with Maddie,
I, I laughed so much.
And Albert is horrified.
Yeah.
(27:36):
Albert's like, oh yeah,Maddie's a good friend to you.
Um, and Chim goes, she'sa lot more than a friend.
And Albert goes, is she, because I see thefriendship, but I don't see the passion.
Do you guys even have sex?
And Chim's like, of course we have sex.
We had sex... three nights ago...,
and then he has to and think about it.
Yeah.
And Albert's like, "I didn'tnotice," and Chim's like, "You
(27:58):
weren't supposed to notice!"
like, sorry for not having sexin the middle of the lounge room.
Like,
like not everyone doesit on the couch, Albert
No, but I guess have a bedroom.
But, um, Albert, Albert is expecting, like, if, if the ignition between
the two of them, the passion would beso loud that it, like sounds, would
(28:20):
be echoing throughout the apartment,
maybe they went to wherever Maddie lives.
It's very respectful, very quiet,
probably missionary position,
Very demure?
Who knows?
(28:41):
But yeah, Albert didn't mean tooffend Chim and said, as long as
Chim's happy, then he's happy for him.
And Chim's just like, "well, I'm,I'm happy of, of course I'm happy."
Like, are you,
he doesn't sound very sure.
Tell Albert or are you trying totell yourself that you're happy?
Yeah.
He doesn't seem too convinced.
And I was like, no, we can't haverelationship drama between those two.
(29:05):
They're so cute.
Madney, my beloved.
Thankfully it didn't, didn't turn outto be too much relationship drama.
Okay.
Camping, camping time.
I'm just remembering I have to post thisepisode next week when I am camping.
Oh.
Oh, no.
So while, while everyone's listeningto this, I will be camping.
(29:26):
Will you be planting a tree?
No.
No.
I will not.
I will be sitting on the beach.
Oh, that's just, that's avery different type of camping
anyway.
Yes.
There's nice weather at this camping trip.
It does look like it's nice weather.
We're um, we are drivingtowards said camping trip.
(29:47):
It's Michael driving.
Bobby's riding shotgun.
Harry in the tree, in the backseat.
'cause apparently the main point point,Harry, the Harry, Harry and the tree.
'cause apparently the, the main pointof this, um, camping trip is that
Harry and Michael are working to, um,repopulate the forest one tree at a time.
(30:08):
Yep.
Single handedly.
One tree at a time.
Um, once a year.
Yeah.
Michael Bobby asks, "Why the tree?" Andit's really cute because Michael starts to
tell the story and then Harry immediatelypicks up the thread and runs with it.
He's heard this story so many timeshe could tell it in his sleep.
(30:30):
So the, the story was that there, there was a fire in the forest.
Most of the trees burnt downand Harry's grandfather promised
that they would all grow back.
And so they go up.
So he and Michael wouldgo up and plant a tree.
And then when Grandpa Grant passed,Harry and Michael kept up the tradition
(30:57):
and Harry's very cute because hesays now Bobby gets to do it too.
But as I said, Michael was driving, but he's not doing so well.
He's like, he's,
yeah, he's got pain in his hands and
something's going on with his hands.
He looks like his head'shurting a little bit.
So he asks if Bobby can take over drivingand Bobby looks a little bit concerned.
(31:20):
I think one of the, the side effects ofthe chemo is, uh, like neuropathy, nerve
pain in your, in your fingers and stuff.
So, or numbness sometimes.
Yeah, they mentioned numbness later.
Bobby says later on that youdon't, you think you're hiding it.
Something about numb hands.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So yeah, that's probably,
(31:41):
so he asked Bobby to take over.
Driving, but I think Bobbytakes that a little bit further.
Yeah.
So Bobby's taken leave.
While he's going camping.
The rest of the 118 are on shift.
Um, 'cause it's still a work day for them.
Um,
they're having therapy session inthe, in the, in the locker room.
We have Eddie, Hen and Chim gettingdressed in the locker room and Yes.
(32:05):
It's Chimney's therapy session.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thank God Buck was not involved in this.
I have a feeling that Chimney wouldprobably not wanted to discuss his sex
life with Buck's sister in front of Buck.
Yeah, exactly.
There's a reason Buck was not in theroom when they had this conversation.
(32:27):
Yeah.
Like, do you reckon Chimney was just like,"oh, Buck, can you go get me a left-handed
screwdriver from the storage closet?"
I don't know.
Or maybe he's just like.
Looking at everybody and telepathicallytelling them to be like super slow getting
dressed, so Buck gets ready super fastand they're all sort of lingering behind.
(32:47):
And as soon as he leaves, they're like, right.
I gotta tell you about whatAlbert said to me the other night,
which is apparently that things withhim are, Maddie are great, but they're
not exactly lighting the world on fire.
And then Chim says he reallycares about her, and he describes
(33:09):
that as the dreaded C word.
But she says, "I really care about goodarch support. But that's not how you
feel about your significant other, Chim."
And Chim's like, I care about hermore than my, more than my shoes.
Yeah.
Eddie goes straight to the point andjust goes, "Do you love her?" And Chim
goes, "yeah." "And does she love you?"But Chim says it's unclear because.
(33:31):
Chim feels like she does, butneither of them have actually
said the exact words out loud.
Which hen finds a little bit, shefinds that interesting because
they've been together for like a year.
It's not a year because, um, Chim knowsexactly how long they've been together.
They've been dating for 10months and three weeks, and he
could probably tell you the daysand hours and minutes as well,
(33:54):
which is kind of cute.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And "So you've beentogether for like a year."
Yeah.
But Chim is, he's being very respectful.
Chim 2.0 is being very respectful.
He's letting Maddie take it slow, especially after everything that they've
been through with, you know, Doug,
(34:18):
you know, getting stabbed, almost dying, all of that.
They've been through so much.
Although, although apparentlyaccording to Hen, glaciers move
faster than Chim and Maddie.
Mm. But Chim helpfully says "they're alsomelting, so maybe fiery is overrated."
(34:38):
And that's when Buck turns, turns up.
So they have a new interim captain, justas Chim said he wasn't gonna do it again.
Um, so interim Captain Reynoldswants everyone to do a lineup
before the shift starts.
Who's Reynolds?
Do we know who Reynolds is?
I don't think we've ever met Reynolds.
(34:59):
Cool.
So,
I mean, the only other, the onlyother captain we've met was Gerrard
and I weren't gonna bring him back.
Yeah.
So I, all I can think's Bert Reynolds, and it's not Bert Reynolds, so
it's not Burt Reynolds,
um, but anyway, before they leave, Eddiestops Chim and says, "Hey, I get taking
things slow, but tomorrow isn't promisedto anyone. So if you love her, tell her."
(35:24):
And if anyone knows that it's Eddie,
it would be him.
Poor Eddie.
Poor Shannon.
Justice for Shannon.
Hashtag Justice for Shannon.
Alright, so while the 118 go do theirlineup, um, we're gonna cut back to
(35:46):
the Bathena residence where Athena isattempting to make up for the lackluster
response they had to May's announcementthat she got the big envelope from USC.
She's gone to Starbucks.
By bringing her Starbucks.
It was very interesting that it wasquite clearly a Starbucks cup, but they
never actually fully showed the logo.
(36:09):
No, you just see the edges of it,
which I didn't, don't, don't understandwhat was going on there because I
think if Starbucks were like sponsoringthe episode, they would wanna have
the logo sort of fully facing.
Or if it was one of those, we can'tshow Starbucks because we don't have
permission and the license to use it.
They wouldn't.
(36:30):
Be letting the logo be shown at all.
So I don't know what's going on withlike the half on, half off logo,
but it is quite clearly Starbucks.
Maybe they didn't know if they'dgot the deal yet, so they just
were one foot out the door.
Then you just, you just uselike ordinary coffee cups.
Who knows?
Yeah.
But anyway, it's um, it's one ofthose frothy ones that May likes, made
(36:53):
it entirely out of milk and sugar.
So she's got coffee, looks like shegot some pastries as well to go with
the coffee and they have a nail, anextra nail appointment 'cause they
have like a standing one month, once a month appointment with Tammy.
But they're going again todayto get their nails done.
And then Athena is going to takeher for lunch over the burger place,
(37:16):
which just so happens to be by USC,which May was really excited about the
coffee and the pastries and the nails.
Uh, except now she realizesthat it's just Athena trying to
sway her decision towards USC.
So yeah, she's like, "oh no, there's,I'm not trying to sway it. There are
a lot of colleges you still haven'theard from," but she wouldn't mind
(37:38):
if May followed in her footsteps.
But she, she says she's veryproud of May and they're gonna
celebrate the first acceptanceletter, whether May likes it or not.
Yeah.
'cause that's a big dealgetting into college.
Yeah.
And she says that, she goes, "okay, but after lunch, can we go to the mall?
(37:59):
We can celebrate with some new clothes?"And Athena's like, "if you say yes to
USE, I'm buy you a whole new wardrobe."But yeah, she hasn't told Michael yet
about it, but, um, you know, he'll beback soon, Athena says, you have time.
Still have time.
But then we cut to the campsiteand Michael's not doing so well.
(38:23):
Um.
They've set up the tents.
There's a little fold out picnic table.
Michael is trying to bring an eskyfrom the vehicle and he's struggling
and to the point where he doesn'teven get it all the way to the table.
He like stops three quartersof the way there, drops it, and
then sits down on it immediately.
(38:45):
We have to call, like, call it acooler though, because no one knows
what an esky is outside of Australia.
Yeah, fine.
And they
call it something different.
They call it somethingdifferent in New Zealand too.
I'm
chili box
what it is?
Chilly bin!
Chilly bin!
Thank you.
Apologies.
(39:05):
Shout out to our Kiwi friends.
To kiwis.
Love you.
Love you.
Kiwis.
The, uh, the, the cool food receptacle.
Um, so he's,
yeah, so the cooler.
Yeah, the cooler.
Um, so he's absolutely wiped.
All he wants to do is take a break.
Harry, who's been like in the carfor hours and is ready and raring to
(39:30):
go, wants to start scouting out forthe perfect place to plant the tree.
And Michael's like, "No, I need you togive us, I need you, I need to rest. Okay.
Just gimme a few minutes to lie down."
And Harry's like, "No, butwe always go straight away.
We always pick a spot when we first gethere, it's tradition." Um, so Michael's
(39:55):
like, "No, I just give me an hour." Andso Bobby tries to play, tries to mediate.
He's like, okay.
'cause Michael's gone to lie down.
Harry's getting upset becausehe's realizing that things
are not okay with his dad.
(40:16):
Yeah.
So Harry says that Michael saidthat he'd be fine for a year and
it's only been a month and there'slike, he's already struggling.
So Harry's freaking.
Bobby tries to consolehim, like, "it's fine.
We can pick a spot in the morning."And Harry's like, "but no, we always
do it when we first get here."Like kids are not good with change,
(40:36):
especially when stuff is like, thisis the way things are supposed to go.
So Bobby goes, "okay, cool.
Why don't we do this?
You and I will go find some spots.
When we come back, we'll show them toMichael, we'll take photos, we'll mark
him on the map, and then once he's had hislie down, we can go back out and we can
(40:57):
plant the tree." And that cheers Harry up.
And so they go off and do that.
So while they go and do that, we're goingto our next emergency of the episode.
Apparently the writers used up allof their, uh, like character world
building on Megan, because none of thesecharacters have names in this scene.
(41:21):
Um, yeah.
So they, I am going to refer to themsimply as Dad and Daughter, because
we don't know what their names, that'swho they're, so it turns out we are
in a, a nice little house somewherein la which the, um, the daughter has
(41:41):
bought with assistance from her parents.
Um, but her dad is helping her remodel it.
She has returned from Home Depotwith supplies and we can see
that the house is covered in likedrop cloths and painters tape.
And there is a, um, a woodenframe for an interior wall
(42:06):
halfway between the kitchen and.
I'm guessing what would bethe living room main room.
Yeah.
For some reason she does notlike open plan in the house.
Oh no, I'm with her.
Oh really?
I'm 100% with her.
Yeah.
I hate,
oh, see, I hate not having open plan.
See, the reason that thereason the daughter gives,
(42:28):
I hate having walls everywhere.
Yeah.
I hate the walls.
No.
So like the daughter gives the reason, which is the reason that I hate open plan,
is that she needs something to hide theview of the dirty dishes from the couch.
I hate the fact that my kitchen, like I'm sitting couch adjacent in my
(42:48):
living room and I can stretch out myarm and I can touch my kitchen bench.
Right.
Which means that when I'm sitting inthe, in the living room, I can see
my kitchen and I can see how filthyit is if I haven't done the dishes.
Um, it also means that all thesmells from the kitchen grow straight
through everywhere in the housebecause I can't close the kitchen off.
(43:10):
Yeah.
Okay.
Yes.
In my issue, like I, my old house wassemi open, but the kitchen and the lounge
room were on opposite ends of the house.
And so, and 'cause it was such asmall house, like all the smells still
traveled, but if, like, if peoplewere over, or even when I didn't live
alone and had like a partner, if theywere watching TV in the lounge room or
(43:33):
like playing games in the lounge roomor doing anything in the lounge room
and I wanted to cook dinner, I had togo to the opposite end of the house.
And so like, I was alwaysaway from everything.
Um, so it did my head in becauselike, even like getting like drinks
or snacks for anyone, I'd haveto go all the way away and then
miss like all the conversation.
Right.
See, that actually sounds likea really good thing for me.
(43:55):
No, fucking hated it.
Interesting.
Um, but I love house plans.
Mom designs this, the reason ourhouse, like the house, their house.
Um, when they did the renovation, she designed it so that the kitchen
would be in the middle so thatyou wouldn't miss out on things.
It's big enough so that like when wehave Christmas or whatever here, um,
(44:17):
like there can be people in the kitchenand you are not elbowing people.
Right.
And so like, mum will be cooking andI'll just be sitting in the kitchen
chatting to her and I'm not in the way.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Whereas in like the little pokeykitchen, someone goes in the
kitchen and you're like, cool.
Now I can't open any of the drawers.
'cause you are in the way.
Yeah.
This is why I used to love playingSims, because designing like, this
(44:41):
is still what I do when I playMinecraft, I build houses, but um.
Designing
I still play Sims,
yeah, I was about to say Alice.
Oh, my, my daughter plays Sims now.
Designing houses is, is so much fun.
But, um, I, I must be likemildly claustrophobic I guess.
'cause I really hate small rooms.
Like Yeah.
(45:02):
Um, unfortunately most modernhouses these days have like pokey
little rooms, but, give me an openplan, high ceiling and I love it.
That's what I like.
So,
Sound off in the comments.
Are you team open plan orare you team closed plan?
Let us know what yourliving preferences are like,
(45:23):
I think it varies quite a bit.
Ba like from country to country as well.
Like a, a lot of, um,
yeah.
American houses are totallydifferent to our houses.
Yeah.
And European houses tend to havesmall rooms that you can close
all the doors to save on heatingand all that kind of thing.
Yeah.
So, depends on climate too.
Anyway, this house back in LA...
(45:43):
They're adding, they're adding a frame.
They're adding a wall.
They're, they're adding a wall, which, um, the father is teaching his
daughter how to, how to build a wall,um, which apparently involves the
use of, I'm gonna call it a nail gun.
I know that he, that theirfather is going to get mad at me
(46:05):
because it's a framing nailer.
Um, oh, I'm calling it Chekhov's Nail Gun.
Um, because he picks up the, the nailgun and he is showing his daughter how
to use it to secure the, um, the studs.
He is ironically, very concerned withhis daughter's safety and will not
(46:29):
let her a pick up the gun until shehas eye protection and gloves on,
and gets very angry at her when sheaccidentally points the gun at him.
It says that she needs to treatthe nail gun as she would an
actual gun and never pointed atanything you don't intend to shoot.
(46:50):
And I was watching this with like, through between my fingers going,
someone is getting a nail in themat some point during the scene.
Hence Chekhov's Nail Gun.
Exactly.
Um, so he guides her to put it upin the middle of the stud and they,
they get it in and she fires thenail and it goes in and they're
(47:12):
so excited that they got it right.
But the next time she tries to dotheir next nail, it doesn't work.
She's clicking with the triggerand nothing is happening.
So naturally, Dad starts pokingat it, points it towards himself.
Oh my,
my entire body clenched.
(47:33):
Yeah.
As soon as he started fucking aroundwith it, my entire body clenched.
It's like those videos when it's likethat prank where that they have, I
think it probably tricks back to likeCharlie Brown or something where you've
got a garden hose and somebody, somefurther down the line sort of bends
(47:54):
the garden hose in half and the otherperson trying to use the hose to water
something and they look down, they lookdown on, yeah, the nozzle of the hose.
Like where's the water?
And the other person releasesit and all of a sudden they get
shot in the face with water.
It was like that except it's a nail gun.
Yeah.
And but it's essentially the same thing.
And instead of his face, it's his heart.
(48:16):
Yeah.
Yes.
So he ends up with a nail inthe chest and they just sort of
stare at each other for a moment.
Which you are like, that's valid.
Yeah.
And she's like, dad, and he'slike, uh, you better call 9-1-1.
And then he just like totally just.
(48:37):
Death drop backwards,
lumberjack falls over sackof potatoes onto the ground.
Um, yes, Maddie takes the nine oneone call and the daughter tries to
tell Maddie that it was a pin nailer, and dad said, this is where he says
it's a framing from the background, even though he's shot on the ground.
(49:00):
Well, first of all, she tells Maddie thather dad has shot himself in the heart.
And so Maddie is like getting veryconcerned that there is a weapon
on the scene, and she's tryingto get more information about the
potential dangerous weapon thatthe team are going to encounter
just when we get the fun.
She's also singing BonJovi for some reason.
No, that was me.
(49:21):
Uh, for those of you who are out thereand listening to land, I was typing
the notes and I'm go and it says, andI quote, the gun is pointing straight
his chest, and of course the tri triggermechanism unjammed at this point.
And the dad gets shot through the heartand then my brain just went on the
Bon Jovi track and it's, the rest ofthe notes are, "and you're to blame,
darling you give love a bad name."
Yeah.
(49:41):
Mm-hmm.
So yeah, the daughter says, "Help, please. My dad shot himself in the heart and you
are to blame Maddie, you give love a badname." Um, but she gives the address.
Um, but it was a nail gun.
It got stuck.
He was working on it and it went off.
So the 118 get dispatched.
For some reason it appears that Eddieis running point on this call because
(50:06):
he's the first one on the scene.
Um, he's the one that doesall the radioing through to
dispatch and the hospitals.
Um.
I don't understand why, but
where's, where's Reynolds?
Apparently Eddie's in charge today.
Yeah, exactly.
Where is Reynolds?
Maybe
we don't know who Reynolds is.
It's fine.
Maybe when Reynolds is in charge,he's like the captain does not need
(50:28):
to go out on every single call.
Yeah.
You guys got this,
got this.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You guys are fine.
It's just, I'm gonna go play cards.
It's just interestingthat it's, it's Eddie.
I mean, Chim would have seniority, but obviously he's gone.
Interim Captain Han has retired, which then Hen has next seniority.
Even Buck has more seniority than Eddie.
(50:50):
So why is Eddie the one in charge?
I am not complaining.
I love a man in charge, but it'sjust an interesting thing to note
Eddie sort of saying, "Is that thingstill on?" And the daughter was too
afraid to touch it so she doesn't know.
So they take care of that and thenHen ask the dad how he's feeling,
Buck goes, "I'll secure the weapon."
Yeah.
(51:11):
Hen asks the dad how he's feelingand Dad goes "Like an idiot."
So there is a risk that the needlehas punctured the heart, of course,
which has, which is creating afluid buildup around the heart.
So they need to get him to hospital.
Um, so they get him on a gurney, they get him out of the house.
(51:31):
Um, the daughter is still talkingto her dad as they push him out.
She wants to know what hospital they'retaking him to so that she can follow.
She's gonna get her mother first and thenthey're gonna meet him at the hospital.
And I love that her dad is like, "Donot tell your mother what happened."
And the daughter's like, "You've gota nail sticking out of your chest.
(51:52):
I'm pretty sure she'sgonna figure it out."
And the daughter is just kept, keepstrying to tell her dad that she loves him.
Like, "I love you. I love you." And he'sjust more concerned about the fact that
his wife is going to tear him a new one.
If the nail doesn't kill him, then she's gonna finish this.
(52:12):
Exactly.
And he, they drive off before hesays, I love you back to his daughter.
Yeah.
And then when they're in theambulance on the way Chim's sort
of attaching leads to him just tomake sure his heart's still okay.
And he says, "Oh, damn it.
(52:34):
I didn't say I love youback to my daughter.
What if it's the last time I speak toher?" And Chim's like, "Don't worry,
you'll have chances to tell her later."
And he looks really, youknow, a bit disturbed by this.
Yeah.
It's very interesting that the, sothe main theme of this episode is
people being pinned or being pinned.
So you've got, um, you know, Arlenegetting pinned by the pin setter.
(52:56):
You've got this guy beingpinned by the pin nailer.
Uh, but the underlying theme isalso people thinking they have
more time and maybe they don't.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
And then Hen notices that the dad'sheartbeat is, like, his pulse is
kind of flattening out a little bit.
And she asks whether the leads arecorrect and Chim's like, of course I did.
(53:21):
But they realize he's about to
bitch You questioningmy abilities right now?
Yeah.
Like, how dare you?
What the fuck, Hen?
I thought we were friends.
He's about to basically go into arrest, sothey're gonna have to start compressions
and they get, you know, he does a fewcompressions and then all of a sudden all
this blood starts just spurting out of,out of where the nail is in his chest.
(53:46):
So much blood.
"I think I'm making thehole in his heart bigger!"
I love how calm Hen is in this situation.
'cause Chim's absolutely freaking outand she's just like, "Eh, they'll fix it
at the hospital assuming he's not dead."
Yeah.
That's one of those situations where
it's very matter of fact
where the, it, like you mightbe causing damage, but damaged
(54:09):
is better than not dead.
So Chim just has to keepdoing the compressions.
Um, there's, it works,
there's so much blood flowing out of him.
There's so much blood.
As soon as the, like heart startsbeating it sprays Chim in the face.
Um, so I'm, which watchingthis while eating dinner.
(54:31):
And I'm eating a sausage rollfor dinner, which I don't think
they have those in America.
It's literally just like sausagemince, um, surrounded in like pastry.
And I've covered this thingin tomato sauce, like ketchup.
Mm-hmm.
I love all the translations we'rehaving to do in this episode.
(54:52):
I know like sausage roll with like tomatosauce is such a like Aussie thing, but
Yes.
Um, anyway, it's covered in tomatosauce and then all this blood is just
spurting and then they get to theum, like they get to the hospital.
(55:13):
Can we just, we have aside segue side quest.
This part, I know we've got some medicallyadjacent or medically inclined listeners.
Can anyone please tell me whetherChim would have any, whether Chim
and Hen would go through any medicalrepercussions from being coated in blood?
(55:36):
Because Chim literallygets sprayed in the face.
Yeah.
I assume they would
considering the number of bloodborne theyshould, viruses and infections, um, can,
I would've thought that they would'vebeen wearing masks in the ambulance to
protect themselves at some point, or, or
This is pre covid, masks didn't exist, Bex
(55:57):
In the medical field, they bloody well did
No Bex They didn't exist.
Yes, they did.
I'm being a dick.
But even then, I, I should have,I would've thought that they
would be slightly more concernedabout the fact that he just got
sprayed with blood in the face.
Yeah.
I mean, you guarantee they'd begoing to wash off as soon as they
(56:19):
got to the hospital or back to the,
and I just kept thinking that itshould have been treated the same way
it's like a, a needle stick injury.
Yes.
So they should be like testingthe dad as well when he gets Yeah.
To the hospital to test, like, to makesure that he's clear of things and then,
and then testing them to makesure that they haven't contracted
(56:40):
anything as well, I guess.
Yeah.
Like I just watched the episode of Houseliterally like two days ago, um, where
they're treating a patient who's HIVpositive and he starts coughing up blood
and gets Cameron in the face and she hasto go through like all the things where
she has to get tested like every month.
Um, and then like every six months and hasto go on the antivirals and everything.
(57:03):
Yeah.
Okay.
And then she gets highand sleeps with Chase.
But anyway, um,
Spoilers!,
but like they, they knew thathe had HIV, so like they went
into the thing straight away.
Yeah.
Anyway, that's just somethingthat I've, I've always.
I thought that everyone was just alittle bit too blase about the fact
(57:25):
that these two end up looking likethey've just escaped from Carrie's
prom and nobody's freaking out.
The engine truck arrives 'causethey've followed the ambulance.
And Eddie and Buck are just chattingas they like walk to the ambulance
and they're, and Eddie goes, "oh,you hungry? You wanna grab a bite?"
And Buck's like, "yeah, definitely. Ihaven't had a proper meal since Bobby
(57:45):
left." And that's when they openedthe door to the ambulance and Chim and
he literally just covered in blood.
Yeah.
I wanna know what happened between likehim getting his heartbeat back and...
I'm gonna say that...
arriving at the hospital...
every
time it his heart beatit would spray more.
Yeah.
Every time his heartbeat itwould've sprayed blood, yeah.
(58:05):
But can't, can't they like, youknow, stop it from doing that?
Unless they stick their hand in the chestand cover like, and hold the hole closed.
No, no, no, no.
Ellen's got a point becauseshouldn't they have secured the um.
The nail, like wrapped it in bandagesor just like secured in place?
Well, they did before they left
look probably, but for thedrama, for the, or the drama.
(58:27):
For
the drama.
I was looking, I had to, whenthey arrived at the, um, at
the hospital, I had to rewind.
I love how mad Ellenis about this episode.
No, I was, I look, there's,I just one to let it go.
Yeah.
But no, I, when they arrivedat the hospital, I'm looking
at 'em covered in blood.
I had to rewind to see what it waslike before they arrived, because
(58:48):
all that, all that we see, likeeven after his heart starts spraying
everywhere, Hen is completely clean.
It's just, yeah.
Chim has this a, a blood splatter, like from the first five minutes
of Supernatural on his face.
And, um, then they arriveat the, at the hospital and
they're just completely covered.
Yeah,
covered in blood
and it's not just them, it'sthe inside of the rig as well.
(59:09):
Like the walls are covered in blood,
so everything's covered in blood.
Um, the ambulance is coveredin blood Chimney's covered
in blood, covered in blood.
My sausage roll is covered intomato sauce and Buck goes, "and
I just lost my appetite." Yeah.
And I'm just like, yep.
I, yep.
(59:29):
So I just looked sadly down at my sausageroll, sent a photo to, to Ellen and
Bex and then kept eating after a while.
But, um, but while Buck's lost hisappetite, Chim says that he's found
his, and he, with his bloody gloves.
And I'm not saying bloody becauseI'm Australian and I swear they are
literally still covered with blood.
(59:51):
He pulls out his personalmobile phone, starts tapping at
the screen and then lifts it.
That's a, hang on guys, that'sa cell phone just so you,
oh, good lord.
Yes.
He pulls out his cell phone.
I would've assumed that that onewould've been understandable within
the context of the situation.
Um, pulls at his cell phone, startstapping at it with his bloody,
(01:00:13):
once again, literally bloody fingerand lifts it to his bloody face.
Again, literally bloody face.
And I'm looking and going, Chim, could youhave not at least cleared up the biohazard
before you picked up your personal phone?
Yes, take your gloves off!,
but no.
He's apparently in the mood.
He is ready to go.
Um, because when Buck asks where heis going, he is going to ask Buck's
(01:00:36):
sister out on a proper date so hecan tell her that he loves her.
Oh.
Um, and Eddie's just, "We missed alot, huh?" And Yeah, apparently so.
Well, Eddie.
Eddie, you already knew that he'dloved her, but now, now you know
that Chim gets turned on by havingblood in his face, so, okay.
(01:00:58):
Okay.
Maybe the sex is not asvanilla as I thought it was.
Oh my God.
Chimney Han having a bloodkink was not on my bingo card.
Oh my God.
Just the visuals.
I don't wanna think too hard about it.
(01:01:20):
Oh, I am, I'm quiteenjoying that actually.
I mean, he knows what he wants.
Was it just the blood?
Was it the squirting of the blood?
Oh, oh no.
Anyway, go away from the blood.
(01:01:41):
Let's go camping.
Where there is nothing kinkygoing on at all the camp site.
Well, no.
'cause there's a child
it's very calm.
It's very calm.
It's calm until, until they get backand Michael gets cross with them.
So Bobby and Harry have been walkingand they found some spots that
(01:02:03):
are potential tree planting spots.
Then he finds out from Harrythat his grandfather actually
died before he was born.
But, Michael showed him whathis, his father had taught him.
So
Michael has woken from his napand he is grumpy like a bear.
(01:02:23):
Uh,
He mad.
So pissed that they went andwent hiking and went, found
spots for the trees without him.
Yeah, they were just supposedto sit quietly at the table
and not move for an hour.
Pretty much.
Yeah, I think so
(01:02:44):
This is the problem with, um, havingdifferent ideas of what tradition
involves, I guess because Harry saidthat they, they needed to go right
away, but I mean, Michael, the wholepoint of it was that they went together.
So,
but then, I'm jumping around a bit, butlater on, um, Michael says that the whole
(01:03:07):
point of Bobby coming to the camping tripwas so that he can learn everything about
this so he can continue the tradition.
Look, Michael has a brain tumor,he doesn't have to be rational.
Yeah,
true.
I guess.
I mean, it's, it's probably like he,he did not expect to, Michael didn't
(01:03:28):
expect Bobby to take over quite so soon.
But I mean, this is thepoint of Bobby being there.
As far as Michael is concerned, thisis, this is good that he's going
out and he's doing this stuff withHarry because he's possibly gonna
be having to do that in the future.
But yeah, I think it, it's pissedMichael off 'cause he's having to
face his mortality and what it lookslike if he's not going to be there.
(01:03:49):
Yeah.
But, um, so he's readyto rumble with Bobby.
Harry gets annoyed and stomps off to thecar and is like, he doesn't wanna even
be here anymore, just wants to go home.
Michael's ruined it,
but Bobby actually does tell him off.
He's like, "Look, uh, he's terrified.
(01:04:11):
You think you're hiding howyou're feeling, but you're not.
He's, he can see it and he.
It's making it all real." AndMichael's like, "I'm the one
fighting for my life here."
But, um, I don't know.
This whole argument is like, I know thatMichael is not feeling well and he's
trying to make everything as normal aspossible, but Bobby is like trying to
(01:04:33):
make out that everyone else has a lifeand you are making it hard for everybody.
And it's like, oh guys, seriously, like no one is in the right here.
Like, everyone's doing everything wrong.
Apparently, according to each of them.
Like, you know, nothinganyone does is correct.
Yes.
According to Bobby, Michael isnot being sick the right way.
(01:04:58):
Yeah.
How dare he?
He said, "we're all trying to supportyou, but you keep pushing us away."
And it's like, but he'snot pushing them away.
He's trying to bring Bobbyinto his traditions and stuff.
Like, you know, it's,it's very contradictory.
Yeah.
Anyway, so Bobby tellsMichael that May got into USC.
Yeah.
(01:05:18):
Way to go, Mike?
Uh, way to go, Bobby, that's,
yeah.
That's just, that's a bit unfair.
Yeah.
Um, and that May blames herselffor Michael not having the surgery.
Um, and Michael says that it has nothingto do with her, and Bobby's like "Her
father might be dying. How does that nothave everything to do with her? And with
(01:05:38):
Harry and with Athena?" But Michael sayshe's not trying to push anyone away.
He's trying to take step back, steps back so that they can learn
how to be a family when he's gone.
And then he storms up in a huff.
So you've got Harry in one direction,Bobby in the other, uh, Michael in
(01:05:59):
the other direction, and Bobby'ssort of left in the middle going
like, what the fuck do I do now?
Yeah.
I think the weird part is like theyhaven't, they say earlier that they
haven't spoken to him for a fewdays, I think May says that earlier.
Yeah, but, and he says like he's beentrying to take a step back and you
get the sense that he has been, butwe, we only ever see them together.
(01:06:19):
Like whenever we see a, we go toAthena's place, Michael's there.
So to us it doesn't feel likehe's taking any steps back.
He's just always there.
Like he's just talking to Henone day instead of Athena.
Yeah.
I,
yeah.
Perhaps we needed a few more episodesbetween epi, between Michael's
sightings in order to fully getthe, the sense of him pulling away.
(01:06:43):
Yeah.
I mean, in a, in an 18 episodeseason, when they're trying to wrap
up whatever arc is going on in thisseason, I'm guessing they don't
really have the luxury of havingextra episodes where he is not around.
But
that's okay.
We will deal with it.
Alright, dispatch time.
Dispatch time.
Uh, Maddie's finished her shift.
(01:07:05):
She's getting ready to leave and.
Josh also is getting ready to leave.
Um, and I will note that Josh still looksterrible, like not as bad as he did.
Wow.
Ouch.
After the last episode, this show, for the most part, does a really
good job of continuity of injuries.
(01:07:27):
Like we probably gave them shit alittle bit about the placement and the
coloring of Chimney's forehead scarafter he got the rebar through his head.
Yeah.
He's, he's still just got likea little cross on his head,
but they, they still remember,oh, this person has an injury.
We need to keep including that and thenwe need to like, reduce it over time.
It's not just gonnasuddenly disappear one day.
(01:07:49):
So it's been
like Supernatural.
So it's been a while.
I don't know how long it's been betweenJosh getting attacked and now, but
he's still got bruises on his face.
The, his injuries are still evident.
So, you know, kudos to makeupand continuity for taking that
(01:08:09):
into consideration when they gotBrian back on for this episode.
Maddie looks like she's about toleave for the day, and Josh asks
her if she's got big plans, andMaddie looks kind of terrified.
Um, she's like, Chim said thathe is taking me out for dinner
and there's something that hehas to tell me face to face.
(01:08:29):
And Josh catches him right away.
Can't wait.
Yeah.
And says, "Oh, you don't think he's..."and then Maddie says, "breaking up with
me?" So we, she's jumped to a conclusion,
but if he is, yeah, he's picked avery expensive restaurant to do it in.
Mm-hmm.
So Josh is like, "oh, it mustbe good news then." Yeah.
Maddie's like I, "he sounded serious. And Chimney never sounds serious."
(01:08:53):
He does sound serious some of the time.
Well.
Does he Sometimes, but probablyin situations where it's
warranted that he'd be serious.
But Maddie doesn't thinkthat a dinner date Yeah.
Dinner date is not warrant being serious.
So she's,
she doesn't see him at workwhen he's being serious.
Yeah.
Uh, so she's questioning everything.
(01:09:13):
She's got the what ifs and Joshimmediately nips that in the bud.
He's like "Uhuh.
No, no.
What ifs don't be the person whoimmediately assumes the worst of anyone.
That's my job.
Remember?" So we get a littlebit of a, um, an update on Josh.
He's doing okay, but he'sstill a little skittish.
Um, I love the foreshadowing this line.
(01:09:35):
'cause it sounds like a
yes.
I didn't pick up on this the first time.
It sounds like a complete just throwawayline because he says "Yesterday I
was convinced I saw Greg or whateverhis actual name was outside this
building." And you think it's just, oh.
Josh is like jumping at shadows.
He's seeing him everywhere.
'cause then he also goes on and says,"I also saw him at my chiropractor."
But considering how this episode ends,it is a distinct possibility that
(01:09:59):
Greg, or whatever his name was, wasactually outside the dispatch building.
Yeah.
Maddie is of course very familiarwith the jumping at shadows phase,
um, because she's been through it withDoug and she tells him that it'll pass.
It's fine, Josh, I'm sure youwon't see him anytime soon.
No, he's completely out of your life.
(01:10:21):
At work.
Yeah.
Uh, so she goes home or she goeshome to get changed, I'm guessing?
She leaves dispatch.
Um,
we, one of the, we don't, wedon't actually know if she's
got a house, so she leaves.
It's fine.
I mean, she could be just beliving in the back of her car.
Who knows at this point.
All we know is that she,
she's living in one ofthe rooms at dispatch.
(01:10:45):
Um, we did get this little throwaway scenewhere, um, the guy who at this point I
was still calling Mr. You Have Power.
Um, apparently his name is Jamal.
So.
Um, Jamal comes in, um, andJosh is like, "why, why, why?
What are you still doing here?
Aren't you going home?" And Jamal'slike, "No, I'm pulling an extra shift."
(01:11:07):
Yeah.
Josh is just like, "Whyis no one going home?"
I think he's also upset becauseapparently Jamal must be like his go-to
for karaoke and with Jamal still workingand Maddie on a hot date, nobody's
gonna be able to do karaoke with him.
Yeah.
Oh, poor Josh.
He's having the, the worst week.
(01:11:28):
Yeah, but he wants all thejuicy details in the morning.
Maddie's like, okay,
but considering what we've just learnedabout Chimney, it could be very juicy.
Oh no.
Hashtag Chimney Han has a blood kink.
Terrible.
All right.
(01:11:48):
So apparently, um, neither Athenanor the 118 are actually working
this week much because they'reall just visiting each other.
Um, Hen is now visitingAthena and having a drink.
It, it might be, I was about tosay it might be after work, but
(01:12:08):
no, their shifts are 24 hours,so Hen should still be at work.
If the writers had any, anyinterest in like actually
paying attention to shift times.
No.
Well, clearly they've clocked off becauseChimney's going out for dinner tonight.
Maybe it's one of their like 48 off.
Yeah.
(01:12:29):
Yeah.
Like they are allowed out ofthe fire station occasionally.
Yeah.
Athena and Hen have a conversation aboutlike, you know, the camping trip and.
Hen asked how it's going and Athenasays, "oh, it's fine. At least that's
what Harry says." So obviously Harryhas actually called her at some point
and things must have simmered down alittle bit because Harry says it's fine.
(01:12:52):
I don't know how long theywere going camping for.
I'm gonna assume that this scene,'cause we get a scene later on where
Harry falls asleep talking to Athena.
So I'm gonna assume that those scenesare happening like one after the other.
Yeah.
So she's literally just talked to himand it's the same day as everything.
(01:13:15):
Yeah.
She's worried about him.
The fact that, you know, hemight have to lose his dad.
She'd never thought that she wouldhave to prepare him for that.
Not at 10 years old at least, but Hen tells her that, um,
you know, kids are resilient.
Like he'll, he'll get through it.
It's very heartfelt and uh, lovely.
(01:13:36):
Well, the thing is like, and thatHen reminds Athena is that Athena's
a cop who risks her life every day.
And so Michael has had to prepare themfor the day that she doesn't make it home.
Mm-hmm.
And Athena's like, oh no, butlike, this is looming over us.
And Hen's like, well, yeah.
(01:13:58):
How is that different to every other day?
I just kept thinking of that.
Was it the earthquake episode wherethey couldn't get in touch with Athena?
Yeah.
And like May and Harry were franticallywatching the news on their iPad
rather than helping Michael get theearthquake bags ready because they
were looking for, uh, for theirmother on the news just to reassure
(01:14:21):
themselves that she was still alive.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And then like May and her got like stuckin electrified water during the tsunami.
So May is very aware abouthow dangerous Athena's job is.
Oh God.
And then Harry had a gun pointedat him during a traffic stop.
They've been, they've beenthrough so much those kids.
(01:14:42):
They've been through so much.
Oh.
But yeah, Athena's Athena's worriedlike she was starting to prepare
for the loss of her parents, but shewasn't ready to say goodbye to Michael.
And she's afraid, and if he dies, she's afraid of what it'll do to May
(01:15:02):
and Harry and they need their father.
Yeah.
And Hen reassures her thatthey'll, they're tougher than we
give him credit for and they'll,whatever happens, they'll be okay.
Alright.
It's time for, and
yeah.
While Hannah and Bethe and Athena aredrinking wine on their patio, um, Maddie
and Chimney are on their date at theirvery expensive and revolving restaurant.
(01:15:26):
Yeah.
Except they're not in the revolving
bit,
but they're not revolving.
No, no.
Apparently there's an outsidetrack to this place that revolves
and they are stuck in the middlewhere it is not revolving,
which Maddie says it's fine.
Um, because she can people watch withoutstraining her neck because the people
are just going to move around her.
(01:15:47):
yeah, I mean, you still get thefeeling of revolving because the tables
next to you are revolving, I guess.
Yeah.
Yeah.
You are just yourself not revolving.
You just don't get to seeall the like 360 view.
Yeah.
And Chimney just dives right into thepoint of the, the, um, of the dinner date.
(01:16:07):
Like there's no, um, like carefullybroaching the subject, he just
immediately says, "I love you."
Oh, bless him.
And Maddie just stares at him
He's so cute.
He, he kind of realizes that he'sjust blurted it out and it's like,
I'm, I'm sorry, I didn't actuallymean to just blurt it out like that.
Um, but.
He does, and he doesn't wanna push, and hedoesn't wanna make Maddie uncomfortable,
(01:16:31):
but he has been uncomfortable becausehe has been wanting to tell her,
but he's been scared to tell her.
But now he's just told her.
It's, it's a, it's a very sweet mess.
Yes.
Yeah.
He's so nervous and like, he doesn't wannapressure her, but he needed to tell her.
(01:16:54):
And she doesn't have to say it back.
And then Maddie goes, "I'm notsure that I can." And his, like,
his little face just falls.
Oh, like Chimney baby.
She has a very good reason though.
It is like, she doesn't think thatshe can say the actual words, I love
you, because they were an automaticresponse to an immediate threat.
(01:17:19):
And you gotta put a pin in that sentence.
An automatic responseto an immediate threat.
Because that's important.
Um, but she does reassure Chimthat while she can't say the words,
it is how she feels about him.
Yeah.
So basically the wordshave lost meaning to her.
(01:17:39):
Um, but she does feelthat way towards him.
Um, and she feels happy and safe whenshe's with him and a million other
things that she can't explain right now.
But she feels all of that for Chim.
That're so sweet.
I love them so much.
Lovely.
(01:17:59):
And Chim just says, that's fine.
I will say it enough for the both of us.
Yeah, she's just adorable.
So cute.
And then Chim starts wafflingon about, um, there's other
things that he wants to discuss.
'cause you know, Maddie has been stayingover at his place pretty late sometimes.
Sometimes she's even staying the night.
Maddie is too busy,
(01:18:20):
so spicy.
Um, because over Chim's shoulder, the table moving in their direction
is a young man and a woman.
And the young man appearsto be, um, digging around
in his pocket for something.
And when he pulls it out from underneaththe table, it's a jewelry box.
(01:18:41):
And Maddie, just
so Chim goes, "I was thinking maybewe need to take the next step," to
which Maddie proposes, "Oh my God.
Public proposals make me squirm."
Yeah.
Because Shi has not noticed thatMaddie is not paying attention to him.
Um, and he's absolutely horrified.
Like, "no, no, Maddie, I'm notproposing to you." And she's like,
(01:19:02):
"wait, that's not what this is.
No, you, I know you're not proposingto me that guy over there is
proposing." Um, but actually he's not.
Um, because there's this,
it looks like he is, but
it looks like he is because thereis a little jewelry box right
about the right size of a ring box.
(01:19:22):
Um.
And everybody in the room apparentlythinks that he's about to propose
the woman that he's at the table withassumes that he's about to propose
and actually preemptively like, looks like she's about to say yes.
Um,
yeah.
So people around therestaurant are filming.
Yeah.
And this is where the guyrealizes made a terrible mistake.
(01:19:45):
There's this big thing where the,the date Wendy tries to take the box
out of his hands because he does notappear to be willing to hand it over.
It goes flying.
They end up under the table.
It's all very cute.
They emerge back outta the table.
She's got the ring box.
She opens it and she's like, "um, theanswer is... earrings. Are you serious?"
(01:20:10):
Because it's not a diamond ring.
It's a beautiful pair of diamond earrings.
Yeah.
Which he got her for herbirthday, which is next week.
At which point everybodyincluding Maddie is like, oh boy.
This just got, this took a dramaticturn that none of us expected.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, because yeah.
(01:20:30):
So they're starting to fight.
Uh, Wendy starts getting up and,
but she gets up on the wrongside of the fucking table.
Yeah.
Like she gets up towards the windowand as she's trying to get up the table
approaches like this big concrete pillar, which is part of the window, and she gets
(01:20:52):
crushed between the table and the pillar,
or she gets pinned betweenthe table and the pillar
she gets pinned.
Yes.
But yeah, so Larry goes, "Iwanted to surprise you." And
she goes, "I'm not surprised.
I am..." that's when she getssquished and then she goes "crushed."
Literally terrible, terrible puns.
Um, I feel like this.
(01:21:14):
Like I, I know it's for the dramaand whatever, but is this not some
kind of a safety hazard to havethe table so close to the wall?
It's such a safety hazard.
Uh, there's, there's so manythings in this episode that
just are for the absolute drama.
Like if she'd got up and stepped offto the side, she would've been fine.
(01:21:36):
Yeah.
Yeah.
The tables being bolted to thefloor, which we find out in a second.
They are.
That seems like a really big risk.
Yeah.
Like why are they bolted down?
The, the track is not going fast enoughthat they're gonna get flung off.
Yeah.
Um, but we, oh dear.
We go to commercial and we comeback and Chimney hears Wendy
(01:22:01):
screaming and dives into action.
Um, and this is when we discover,'cause he tries to move the table.
We discover that the tablehas been bolted to the floor.
So he.
For safety.
That's what the manager says, for safety.
Yes.
The manager says for safety.
So he disappears to find somethingthat, um, they can use to unbolt the
(01:22:22):
table because they can't, I think theymight have stopped the track, but they
can't make the track go backwards.
Yeah.
So they've stopped the rotation, but it, it only travels clockwise.
They can't make it go the other way.
Yeah.
Um, so they can't get her out without,
and the, and the manager, themanager is totally useless here.
(01:22:45):
It's like, would you not have some kindof procedure to like, I, I don't know.
Like she's, so stop thinking about it.
The manager's so calm too.
She's just like, "nah, Idon't need travels clockwise."
She's clearly Jessie's mom.
But I'm assuming that because.
Chim and Maddie immediatelyhave dived into action.
So Chim's been very proactive.
(01:23:05):
Maddie has called 9-1-1, like thequickest nine one one call in the world.
'cause she's, um,
well to be fair, sheis, she's a dispatcher.
Yeah.
So she would've been like, this is,
she hasn't stayed on the line.
She's like immediately just barked atprobably location and what's happened.
Ended the call and she's,and she's at Wendy's side.
So the manager we find, um, we findsout that you've got a former nurse
(01:23:26):
and a current paramedic on the scene.
And then she's probably like, okay, they've got it, her, her
entire contribution is taking theglassware and flatware off the table.
That's all she does.
Um, but yeah, it's awesome to see becauselike they haven't seen each other work
and we haven't seen them work together.
(01:23:48):
And it's really cool watching becauseyeah, Maddie's just like "former nurse",
Chim goes "current paramedic" and likethey both just spring into action.
So Maddie is keeping Wendy awake andalert and just asking her questions.
Um, chimney goes and grabs the fire ax,like, which, that's behind a glass thing.
(01:24:11):
It's fine.
He diagnoses her as having the ebroken a separated pelvic bone first
simply by touching her.
Yeah.
He, he uses the ax to leaveher the bolts out of the floor,
which makes Wendy screammore surely for her safety.
(01:24:32):
It would've been, it would've beenbetter to wait the five or so minutes
that it took for fire rescue toarrive and use the saw to cut the
table and lift it away from her.
It's because as he's wedging the, theacts under the table, the table is
rocking into Wendy, crushing her further.
Exacerbating her already,like horrific injuries.
(01:24:56):
Um, I don't know.
It's, I don't just, it just remindsme of when Buck and Abby rescue the
kid from the pool and as soon as theyget the kid out, the power gets cut
and like, everything's literally fine.
And they could've justwaited and kept the kid calm.
Oh.
But they were like,no, we need to do this.
I think I, I think every singletime Abby tries to do a rescue,
(01:25:17):
it's superfluous because immediatelysomebody is on the scene.
Oh, I still, she justwaited that get over second.
She would be fine.
I still can't get over her try like herdoing mouth to mouth on Buck when he was,
when he entire airway was obstructed.
And it's like, Abby, whatthe fuck are you doing?
His entire airway's obstructed.
And she's like, no, I'm gonna dorescue breaths, which will do nothing.
(01:25:40):
And then instead of just continuing CPR,I'm going to give him a tracheotomy.
Like what?
That was a wild episode.
Wild.
But anyway, they It works.
It works.
Yeah.
They get the, they getus around the table.
Um, they get her out fromthe table and get her down.
(01:26:01):
Chim further diagnoses arterial bleeding.
Look, at least that theydo show some bruising.
So there is like evidence ofbruising and bleeding under the skin.
Um, and I'm assuming that she's possiblyalso like the sensation, like her
abdomen feels... like it goes rigid.
(01:26:22):
I guess they wanted to get her out assoon as possible because if, because they
were worried about hemorrhaging and ifshe had started losing vitals, they can't
do anything while she's standing up.
Whereas if they have her lying down.
But isn't that lying down
isn't that the whole thing?
That if you've got like a crushinjury, the crush injury just
kind of like acts as a tourniquetjust holds everything in place.
And she,
no, the, if you've got a like yes, but no.
(01:26:43):
So crush injuries, thelonger that you stay crushed.
But she was the, it would've been what,
it's fine, shh.
Five minutes?
For the drama.
I know it's for the drama, but Ellenhas, Ellen has reignited my cynicism.
I love the Madney team member.
The, the Madney teamworkis just giving me life.
(01:27:03):
Just let them be heroes.
They, they, I let them turn each otheron with their, with Chim's blood kink
With their competency.
They do work so well together consideringthey have never worked together before.
They do act like a well-oiledteam out of the field.
Yeah, it's great.
Yeah.
(01:27:23):
They get Wendy on the ground.
They do a splint with a tablecloth,
which is wrong, but, okay.
Shh.
It's fine.
Um, for the drama, um, Wendy andLarry make up and Larry decides he is
proposing by saying, "I'm asking now."
That's not even a proposal, but Sure.
Um, and then we cut to the lobby wherethe paramedics are getting him out
(01:27:46):
and Wendy, the idiot, says yes.
Yeah.
I dunno why Wendy says Yeah.
Anyway,
I dunno why
she's delirious from blood loss.
It's fine.
Um,
she hasn't lost any blood though
internally.
She's bleeding internally.
Okay.
I mean, Ellen's like, that's whereall the blood's supposed to be.
It's not blood loss as inthe blood is like leaving.
(01:28:07):
It's like the blood is not currentlycirculating throughout her body.
So she's still suffering fromblood loss even though because
it's not going to her heart.
It's like going places it shouldnot be going and it's staying there.
Okay.
But I, I, I'll defer toyour superior knowledge.
Um,
oh my superior knowledge of likeabsolutely no medical training?
(01:28:29):
Like I don't even play a doctor on tv.
Yeah.
So anyway, the, theparamedics fuck Wendy off.
Maddie laughs about public proposals.
And then Chim's like, "Uh, you know, that wasn't a proposal by the way.
Me, not them." Maddie's like "it wasn't?"And then she's like, "wait, were you gonna
ask me to move in with you?" And Chimneygoes, "I was gonna offer you a drawer."
(01:28:55):
Which considering, whatwas he about to say?
Hang on, I gotta go back upand finish that sentence of
his, 'cause he's saying, um,
he says something about youum, leaving clothes at...
"There are a few things I wantedto discuss. You stay over pretty
late. Sometimes you even stay thenight and I was thinking that maybe
we need to take the next step andgive I will give you a drawer."
Yeah.
(01:29:18):
Yeah.
He doesn't wanna rush into anything, okay.
After 10 months and three weeks.
So goddamn romantic
I hope it was a big drawer and not one ofthose small ones at the top of the bureau.
Anyway, Maddie, um, Chimney sortof changes the topic and he's,
he starts to get a little flirty.
(01:29:39):
He says that he finds the kicking assand saving lives side of Maddie very hot.
And Maddie's like, you too.
Good with your hands.
Very precise.
I was like, oh, I'm allabout precision, baby.
So they lean in to have a littlesmoochy smooch, and the manager's
(01:30:00):
just like, "thanks guys!"They're just like, what the fuck?
Who are you?
And where did you come from?
The, the bitch face that Maddie gives heris just amazing, like time and place lady.
It's like, I have not hadsex in like four days.
I think I've lost counthow long it's been.
(01:30:23):
Just leave us alone.
To be fair.
To be fair, the manager probablystarted off as a waitress, and we
all know that as soon as you haveyour mouth full, that's when they
come and ask how everything's going.
So she's just fallingback on her training.
But she does offer them anything.
Anything she can do forthem, just let her know.
(01:30:45):
And they go when Maddiegets the ooh, anything,
which turns out to bea suite in the hotel.
So they can get away from their roommate.
Yeah, so they get a big suite and takeadvantage of the mini bar and each other.
(01:31:06):
Because hashtag Chimney has a blood kink.
Well he, yeah.
Now
Apparently internal bleeding also counts.
Yeah, I was gonna say he's now got acompetency kink as well because they're
about to, you know, get hot and heavyafter telling each other that they
liked the way their hands worked.
So,
um, let's go camping again.
(01:31:31):
We're gonna cut to the morning after, but we are gonna give those two a
little bit of time to sort of... oh,
give them some privacy.
Oh no, sorry.
It's not the morning after.
We're still that night.
So this is the, when Athena was saying "Italked to Harry", this is the end of that.
So we've jumped back intime slightly because,
(01:31:51):
oh yeah.
Michael comes out from the tent.
Bobby is sitting by the fireand he asks Michael, is Harry
still on the phone with Athena?
Michael said he fell asleephalfway through the conversation.
Oh, that's cute.
Yeah.
I don't think my ten, my, uh.
Sorry, she's not 10 anymore, butI don't think she would've fallen
asleep halfway through a conversationwhen she was standing either.
(01:32:13):
But that's very cute that he did.
It doesn't say much for Athena'sconversational skills that
Harry falls asleep so quickly.
Um, so they have a littleheart to heart by fire.
So then May and I get our nailsdone, and then we went to that
burger place and Harry's just like,
and then we went to the mall andwe started off at this shop and
(01:32:35):
May bought this and yeah, he's out.
Yeah,
Bobby and Michael have a littleheart to heart about, um, like
Michael's saying that he'stalking about how his father died.
So he died before they could tellanyone that Athena was pregnant.
He, it was a stroke.
(01:32:55):
Uh, so he died suddenly.
And Michael goes on to tell he, he'sin a bit of an oversharing mood.
I think he was telling him all abouthow, when they found out that they were
having a boy and he wanted to be excited, but he could only think about his father
and how his son would never know him.
(01:33:16):
Athena had all the answers andBobby's like, oh yeah, she does.
But they decided to name, uh, theirson Harry, after his grandfather,
and they would talk about him, andHarry would know his grandfather
without ever having met him.
And Bobby assures him that he, he does, hetalks about "The way he talks about your
(01:33:37):
father. You've kept him alive for Harry."
So apparently that was the wholepoint of Bobby coming on this trip
because Michael wants Bobby to keepMichael alive for Harry, the way that
he was able to keep his father awaybecause May has had him for 18 years.
So she will remember him, but he isworried because Harry is just a boy
(01:34:02):
that unless somebody constantly keepsbringing Michael up and remembering
and reminding Harry that all ofhis memories of Michael will fade.
Yeah.
Like Michael knows thatlike videos exist, right?
(01:34:23):
Yeah.
When I was watching this, I was sortof, I kept thinking that it's a lot
for Michael to be putting on Bobby.
Like Bobby is his ex-wife's new husband.
Like I know that they're nowbesties apparently, but like.
Bobby doesn't even knowMichael all that well.
Although apparently they spend a lotof time together now, so maybe he does
(01:34:46):
Bobby trying to keep the memory alive.
Just like, oh yeah.
Remember when your mum wasmarried to that gay guy?
Yeah.
I don't know.
It is
just a good times.
Um, it's a, it's a really nicesentiment, like I see where they're
going with this, but is is, is thisthe right person to ask to do that?
Like
Yeah.
Like maybe talk to Athena about it.
Yeah.
Who actually knows Michael and like
(01:35:07):
has all of those memories.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But
yeah, you're right.
He should be doing video journals.
Yeah.
There's a lot of ways that he couldbe doing this rather than just putting
it all on his, uh, wife's new husband.
Yeah.
Anyway.
Yeah, it's a weird writing choice.
Um, but it is, it is anice scene like they do,
(01:35:29):
it's a, it's a really nicesort of male bonding to male
characters, male friendship scene.
It just, yes.
Like why?
It's just a weird choice.
Yeah.
Okay.
So now we're going to the morning after.
Uh, yes.
They've had a very lovely romanticnight in their hotel room.
Chim's just coming out of the bathroomwrapped in a towel, so I'm assuming,
(01:35:51):
oh, maybe they've been cleaning up.
So yeah, I'm assuming he had a shower.
We just take a moment to, uh, toappreciate Kenneth Choi because like,
oh, right?
Damn, dude.
Uh, they ordered breakfast room servicewith candles because they never got around
to having a candle like dinner last night.
So I assume they ate something, butthey got interrupted by crush injuries,
(01:36:15):
I I'm not gonna go there,I'm not gonna go there.
Bex, no!
Um, they, they're gonna havea candlelight breakfast.
I'm not really sure why we needed to seethat scene except for the thirst trapping.
Except that it was cute.
Yeah.
And the thirst yeah, andthe Kenny thirst trap.
Yeah.
We wanted Kenny out of a, out of a shirt.
(01:36:36):
Yeah.
Yeah.
We all always appreciate Kenny outta a
shirt.
That's fine.
Yeah.
Back at the campsite, Bobby's on thephone with Athena who is at work.
Um, and according to Bobby it went well.
They communed with nature.
They planted a tree and theyate smores under the stars.
I'm down with the smores part.
(01:36:57):
I don't know about the rest of it.
I mean, planting treesis good for the planet.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm not sure if they always, dependingon where you're camping, I guess,
um, appreciate you just plantingrandom trees around the place.
Yeah.
Like are they planting something that'slike species and state appropriate?
(01:37:18):
It looked kinda like a pine tree.
It looked a pine tree.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Or some kind of,
but do they want pine trees inthat particular part of the forest?
They'll go back in at Christmastime and be like, where the
fuck did our pine trees go?
Maybe that's where Athena'sChristmas trees are coming from.
Michael is just like planting them atthe beginning of the year and then coming
back in December to um, to harvest them.
Oh geez.
(01:37:39):
How fast do pine trees grow?
They grow reasonably fast, but um,
but like the previous year's one,so he is got like a year for it
to grow and establish and thenhe cuts and they don't want it
to get too big.
Otherwise I won't fit it in the house.
Don't tell Harry, God.
Not like Chris's Christmas tree wherehe wants the like really big one.
(01:38:00):
Which is so big that Eddiecouldn't even fit it in the house.
Yeah.
Uh, well, but apparently they'regonna come home soon, so.
Okay.
Thanks for letting us know.
Guys and
Michael and Harry appear to havereconciled because they, uh,
Michael gives him a hug before asthey're packing the car back up.
So yeah, they're, they're little, likethey're little just tying loose end.
(01:38:23):
Tying up loose ends scenes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I'm sure nothing drastic will happen inthe next 10, five minutes of the show.
Yeah.
It's just the end, right?
Yeah.
Um, so we go back to, uh, Chimney's house.
Albert was worried about him, butChim says that it was none of,
none of his business where he was
(01:38:45):
Albert's up making coffee when Chim sortof lets himself in and tries to sneak in.
And Can I say how unfair it isthat men get away with doing the
walk of shame because it doesnot look like a walk of shame?
Yeah,
because he's in a suit, like he's gothis jacket over his shoulder, so he is
in like suit pants with a suit shirt.
(01:39:05):
It does not look like that hedidn't come home last night.
It looks like he's justdressed very professionally.
Yeah, because like they don't have thesmeared makeup, they don't have the,
like, slept in, like the slept in hairdoesn't look too bad when, when you run a,
but I mean, even if...
he's not carrying his shoes,
didn't have the chance to shower, you're clearly wearing evening clothing
at like 6:00 AM in the morning.
Yeah.
(01:39:25):
So even if you look put together, it'squite clear that you are not supposed
to be wearing those clothes right now.
Mm-hmm.
But Chim gets away with it.
Although Albert's like, you know,"Where have you been? He was so
worried about you." Um, Chim juststeals his cup of coffee and says
like, "None of your business. But foryour, for your information, I took
(01:39:47):
Maggie Maddie out and things ignited."
He looks so smug.
Uh, Maddie.
Um, and speaking ofsmug, Maddie is at work.
Oh.
She's in such a good mood.
Yes she is.
Can you blame her?
She bounces into the room.
She's like, yeah, I got some.
(01:40:10):
Josh immediately makes a bee lineto her and is like, "how did it go?
I need all the details." And Maddie'slike, "well, there was a pelvic splint
involved." Josh is like, "Ooh, kinky."
Like Josh, you have no idea.
Hashtag Chimney Han has a blood kink.
(01:40:32):
But, um, Maddie does note that there, because as she walks in, before Josh
gets to her, there is an LAPD officeron the dispatch floor that she kind
of gives a nod of acknowledgement to.
And as she's walking through, she'sseeing other LAPD officers on the
floor and she brings it up to Josh.
She's like, "There seems to be a,a rather large police presence here
today." And Josh is like, "It's thescheduled sit-alongs." So apparently
(01:40:56):
it, it's not just 9-1-1 dispatchesgoing out in the cars sometimes.
The officers come in and sitin with the dispatchers to
get sort of their perspective.
Um, yeah, totally normal event.
Um, apparently so.
Josh says that Maddieshould read the calendar.
Maddie says she doesn'thave to 'cause she has Josh.
(01:41:18):
Um, Jamal has not moved.
Like he's still in the kitchen,
apparently not
exactly where Maddie lefthim the night before.
So the night before when she's leavingand Josh is asking about karaoke.
Jamal was in the break room makingcoffee when she walks back in.
He's still behind the counterat the break room making coffee.
Yeah, like has he slept?
(01:41:38):
Like he said he picked up anextra shift, but oh my God,
I don't think it, because she says,"Have you been here all night?"
And he's like, "no. It just feels likeI was," so I think he's done like Yeah.
Till midnight or 1:00 AM has gone home.
Got maybe like two hourssleep and then he's come back.
Yeah.
Ugh.
So he's gonna be in likegreat shape for today's shift.
To be fair, like even in retail,I used to do open closes a lot.
(01:42:02):
Oh.
And so I'd do 10 hour shifts andthe amount of customers that would
be like, do you just live here?
And I'm like, yeah, I'vegot a dog bed out the back.
Yeah.
Um, but yeah, it absolutely justfeels like you live there sometimes.
Like you go home or awake forlike an hour, then go to bed,
and then you're back at the store
Yeah.
Before 8:00 AM and you're just like, what the fuck is this bullshit?
(01:42:22):
So as Maddie is putting her stuff away, she gets a call and it's chimp, he's
just checking in to make sure thatshe got out of the hotel uh, okay.
They didn't like try and, um,charge her for any, for the room
or the, the dinner or everything.
But no, it was fine.
Everything was 100% comped.
And she stays on the phone withChim as she leaves the break
(01:42:45):
room and heads to her station toclock in, um, which is important.
Because while she is talking to Chimon the phone, Sue comes up to behind
her and is talking to someone calledOfficer Brown and she's saying to
Officer Brown that I'm gonna haveyou ride along with Maddie today.
(01:43:07):
But Maddie's sitting at his station,Josh has come back to get more details
about that pelvic splint and hetakes one look at the so far unseen,
officer Brown and his face just drops.
He, if
not only does his face drop,he drops his whole coffee cup.
(01:43:28):
Yeah, he, his face drops.
If you could make actors like losethe blood out of their face, that's
what would've happened to Josh.
Oh yeah.
And then we, as the audience,we get a cut to Officer Brown
who says, "Hi handsome." Yeah.
And in case you didn't miss who OfficerBrown is, he then says, "Seen any good
(01:43:53):
movies lately?" And at this point, thepenny should have dropped from that line.
And from Josh's reaction, thatOfficer Brown is Greg, AKA Josh's
date who beat the crap out of himat the, uh, the outdoor cinema.
Yeah.
Yes.
And he pulls a, a gun, um,out from under his jacket.
(01:44:17):
And there's, and all of the LAPD officerswho are there, uh, are not in fact LAPD.
They're all bad guys.
They all have weapons.
And Maddie's still onthe phone at this point.
Yeah.
And Greg tells her that sheneeds to end the call carefully.
And Chim is.
(01:44:38):
You can hear Chim throughthe, up through the phone.
He's like going, "Maddie,Maddie, what's going on?
Where are you?
Did I lose you, Maddie?
What's going on?" And she veryclearly, very carefully says, "I love
you, Howie." And then ends the call.
Yep.
So not only does she say I loveyou, which she literally just said
the night before, she wouldn't besaying, she also called him Howie.
(01:45:03):
Because what did she say?
It's like an automatic responseto a threatening situation is what
triggers her to say, I love you.
And Yeah.
She, she doesn't call him Chim.
She calls him Howie.
And Chim's like just lookingat the phone going, what the,
what the fuck was that?
What was that?
And back at dispatch, uh, officeBrown, AKA Greg announces to
(01:45:25):
all of the dispatchers as all oftheir stations start to shut down.
And we hear the generators whine aseverything powers down that he or we
are taking control of this facility.
Yeah, "Don't move or you will be shot."
And he's got his little mini gunraised above his head as he says this,
just in case anybody really needs tohave the point like hammered home.
(01:45:50):
Yeah.
And that's how that episode ends.
We have a heist,
and I love that this ishow the episode ends.
And then Ellen, you went andimmediately watched the next episode.
'cause you couldn't wait a week.
Oh my God.
I had to
Yeah, you, yeah, you didn't even hesitate.
The thing is, if you are watching weekto week, this would be hell to wait for
a whole week until what's happening next.
(01:46:10):
But because we have all it all availablenow, um, I was like, screw this.
I'm going straight on
like Alice and I didn't even haveto say anything like, oh my God, if
you, you cannot wait until next week.
You're just like, I can't wait.
I'm just going straight.
No, I, I'm starting.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it's like a, an un unannounced,two-parter, although I guess
(01:46:32):
it doesn't really relate.
The, the, the episodes don't reallyrelate apart from this last five minutes.
So,
but yeah, watching thislive would've been wild.
Yeah.
Excellent cliffhanger.
And then not even watching it, um,live would've been hell, but then
they went on like a two week break.
(01:46:52):
Oh, did they?
'cause the next episode did, theydidn't air until the middle of April.
So just like in real life, that must been,
I swear they do it on purpose.
Must It must've been Easter.
Yeah.
They used, they used to do thiswith, um, with Supernatural as well.
Whenever they'd go on a break.
Yeah.
They'd have mini breaks.
They'd have like a cliffhangerepisode to keep you on tenter
hooks for like two to three weeks.
It's currently season eight.
(01:47:14):
They've just aired.
Was it 13?
Um,
eight.
Eight 13 has just aired.
Yes.
'cause 12 was "Holy Mother of God"?
Um, no, 12 was "Disconnected".
So 12 has just aired andthey're having a break.
Yeah.
Be, uh, for 15 or 16, one of the two.
(01:47:36):
So it's,
is it a, is it acliffhanger at the moment?
Well, we haven't got there yet.
Oh, okay.
There's another, yeah.
One.
Okay.
So obviously it's obviously it'sa part of the regular and sort of
network schedule that somewhere aroundmid-April you have a break, so, yeah.
So you've got "Ladies and gentlemenwe're taking over this facility."
We'll see you in like three weeks time.
Yeah.
Ah mean.
(01:47:59):
So from on the 13th of April in 2020when this first aired, um, the audience
got the taking of dispatch 9-1-1on, which is a play on, it's like
take the taking of Pelham somethingis, I think the movie title that
it's a rip off of taking of Pelham.
How do you spell that?
(01:48:20):
Pelham?
1, 2, 3. Yeah.
Right.
Which is the train.
Yeah.
Um, and the summary is,
which I've actually seen, butI remember nothing about it.
I haven't seen that one.
I know that there's original and thenI think Denzel Washington did a remake.
Yeah.
Denzel Washington and John Travolta.
That's as far as my knowledge goes.
(01:48:40):
Um, so the summary for "The Taking ofDispatch 9-1-1" is, um, very, is like
full of spoilers, lots of information.
Um, Maddie fears for herselfand her coworkers when the
call center is taken hostage.
What the call center was taken hostage?
I never would've guessed.
That's it.
That's all we got.
(01:49:00):
Yep.
Um, the triggers for the takingof dispatch 9-1-1 includes people
being taken hostage, funnily enough,um, workplace under threat of
shooting, uh, gun violence, threatsof violence, uh, a car accident and
(01:49:23):
just the generic cops being cops.
Athena is just a walking trigger.
Aw.
Yeah.
I'm trying to think of what tosay about this episode in general.
Like I feel like that I've torn it apart, like with trying to make sense of it.
(01:49:47):
I mean, it kind ofrolled along quite well.
There were a lot of really smallscenes, but they kind of had to
jump around because that's justthe way they've structured it.
But nothing happened inthis episode that it was
just, it was much, verymuch a filler episode.
It was a filler episode.
Yeah.
Which is funny because this week 9-1-1was also a bit of a bridging episode,
(01:50:10):
so it just must be I this time of the,
I like filler episodesand bridging episodes.
I think in today's, the way thateverything is for is designed with
streaming services, and it's like very, very short, like 10 episode seasons.
So you don't have the ability to havea fluff filler episode because you've
(01:50:33):
got limited time to tell the story.
Every episode is like, must see, because if you miss it, you're
going to miss out on so much.
So I like the fact that there's anepisode, like pinging like, eh, I don't
actually have to watch this one again.
Yeah, I can just go straight on.
I like filler, I like fillerslash fluff, fluff episodes.
One thing I hate from like older TVshows that I'm really glad they don't
(01:50:55):
do anymore is clip show episodes.
Oh, no.
See, I, I adore.
I adore some.
If they're done right, they're amazing.
One of my favorite TV showswas, um, Stargate SG1, and
their clip shows were so good.
What is a clip show?
(01:51:15):
It's where they play old clips fromthe te It could be, because back
in the day, the only time, like theonly way you could watch rewatch
things was if it replayed on tv.
So occasionally they'd dolike flashback episodes.
So if you've watched friends, it's likebefore Chandler proposed or when they
were writing their vows or whatever,
it was a really easy way for them topad a season back easy way because they
(01:51:39):
didn't have to shoot a whole heap of shit.
They could shoot like maybe,
yeah, they just went back in
five minutes of actual footageand then they would just fill
the rest of the episode withflashbacks from previous episodes.
So it was a cheap way toget a new episode out.
And it made sense back then because youcouldn't, you couldn't just rewatch stuff.
But now that you like, can binge stuff,it's like, I just fucking watched this.
(01:52:01):
I get it.
I don't need to watch it again.
It's very much a, a relic ofthe, like the 22 episode season.
Yeah.
My favorite show that did it though wascommunity, because they do a clip show
episode, but all the clips are brand new.
Like none of them actually happened.
So they're like, oh, rememberthat time we did this?
(01:52:22):
And then it flashes back tosomething that we never saw.
Right, yeah.
So, no, my, my favorite one fromStargate was they had, um, it was not
nothing to do with the actual show.
It was a guy who for some reasonwas connected to one of the
(01:52:43):
main characters, telepathically.
So everything the main characterwas doing this guy saw in his head.
So he was, he was a barber, so hewould be telling his customers the
stories that he was seeing in hishead, which were episodes from the
TV show in previous series, and they,
yeah, that's kind of cool.
The actor that they had doing thiswas the guy who does the voice,
and I've completely forgottenhis name of Homer Simpson.
(01:53:06):
Oh, um,
Hank Azaria?
No, no.
Hank Azaria was, um, Apu.
Homer
oh, sorry.
It's fuck, what's his name?
Um, he's in everything too.
And the, the really cool thing was that
Dan Castle... Dan Castellaneta.
(01:53:26):
Can't say that.
And it was a really cool thing because,
but yeah, he's in everything.
The, um, the main actor who, the characterwho he was connected to telepathically,
his favorite TV show was The Simpsons, andhis favorite character was Homer Simpson.
And the act, oh, the actor, thethemself playing that character loved
The Simpsons and loved Homer Simpsons.
(01:53:47):
So it was a nice little kind of Easteregg that they brought in the guy playing
Homer Simpson to play this character
That's really cool.
So they actually got to meet's.
So yeah, that's myfavorite clip show episode.
Yeah.
So if it's done right, sure.
Oh yeah, yeah.
But yeah, like friends is very muchjust like, oh, we need an episode here.
(01:54:07):
I mean, the filler episodes are where weget some, um, background character info.
So it's like bread and butter forFanfic, writers for ex, for instance.
Oh, absolutely.
Yeah.
Um, not necessarily anycharacter development, but just
random stuff about characters.
Yeah.
Like this one we learn all aboutMichael's dad and how Harry is
named after his grandfather.
(01:54:27):
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
