9-1-1.
What's your emergency?
Welcome back to That Weewoo Show, apodcast where we watch and discuss
episodes of the A B C show, 9-1-1.
(00:22):
I'm Ellen.
I'm Alice.
And I'm Bex.
Thanks to everyone who'sbeen listening so far.
Um, we are in season four now.
We have a very special shout outthis week to people who have been
buying things from our Redbubble.
We have a Redbubble shop, um, that Alicehas been putting things on, and it has
some stickers and some other things thatyou can buy from there with our logo.
(00:45):
And with "for the drama" on, and uh,some people have been buying them.
So thank you.
Especially Keira.
We know that you are the onlyone who's actually owned up to
buying some of them, so thank you.
Thank you.
I mean, I have a hoodieand you two have mugs.
So
yes, there's lots of things there thathave our, our bits and pieces on it.
So if you want, if you'd likesome, um, we'll put a link to
(01:07):
the Redbubble shop in the notes.
The, um, the only problem with thehoodie is that I wore it out to dinner
the other night because it was coldand it was with like my parents and my
parents' friends and mom was telling herfriends that, um, like, "oh, it's like
for a podcast and you should listen."
And they asked for the link and Iwas just like, please don't listen.
No, please don't like this.
This is a terrible idea.
(01:28):
I regret everything.
Well, um, hello Alice's mom's friends.
If you're listening,
if you have any questions about the Omegaverse, Alice will be happy to explain it.
Oh God, please no.
Known these people sinceI was in kindergarten.
(01:48):
Let's, let's bring it backto the actual show then.
Um, before we get stuck into episode two.
Alice, do you wanna tellus what happened last time?
Yeah, so last week on 9-1-1, the118 rescued commuters stuck in a
bus, suspended in a high-rise andAthena return to work right in
time to get caught in a landslide.
(02:08):
Uh, in this episode we are goingto discuss the second episode of
season four, which is kind of thepart two of last week's episode,
uh, because it is the continuation.
Last week we had the HollywoodReservoir Dam break, which caused
the bus to go through the buildingand also caused the landslide.
(02:31):
Well, actually then the microquakes caused the dam to break, and
the micro quakes also caused thelandslide, but it's all connected.
Um.
So the summary for the episode, which first aired in January 25th,
2021, says, in the aftermath ofthe dam break, massive mudslides
(02:54):
wreak havoc throughout Los Angeles.
Even the summary says that they'reconnected as Athena fights to save
herself and an agoraphobic woman afterher house collapses, Bobby, Hen and
Eddie rush to save hikers endangeredby the falling of the Hollywood sign.
Meanwhile, Buck and Chimney mustrescue a group of pregnant women
trapped in a submerged house
(03:16):
Out of context that sounds so strange.
Which one?
In context it's so strange.
The pregnant women trappedin the submerged house?
Yeah, yeah.
Makes it sound like it'ssubmerged under water.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Rather than that, it just gotcompletely covered over by mud.
But trigger warnings for this episodeinclude claustrophobia, specifically
(03:40):
the threat of being buried alive.
Um, childbirth in the field, flashbacks toassault, depictions of grief, references
to kidnapping, a natural disaster, themicro quakes causing the mudslide and the
landslide causing multiple fatalities, men sinking in quicksand slash mud.
(04:02):
Um, mental illness, including orspecifically agoraphobia and depression
and pregnant women and babies at threat.
I think the pregnant women and babiesat threat are meant to be combined.
Not just that pregnant women is atrigger, although that could also be a
trigger in and of itself for some people.
(04:23):
I'm triggered by pregnant women.
Pregnant women are triggered bythemselves a lot of the time I think
my brother, when my brother wasyounger, um, like when he was doing his
internship, he worked with someone who waspregnant for the first time in his life.
Mm-hmm.
And he was so terrified that he'slike, oh, like what if I make
her mad on a day that the baby'slike growing ears or something?
(04:45):
And I'm like, I don'tthink that's how it works.
Like, I don't think stressing herone day is going to break the baby.
Oh, that's so cute though.
Oh look, he's fine now.
He is almost 30 and like has friendsthat have kids, but like, when
he was like 17, he was like, ohmy God, I'm gonna break the baby.
Like, it's okay.
(05:05):
Uh, so we start with some newsfootage of the floods through
the Hollywood Hills and the newsanchors explains what's happening.
So just in case we hadn't justwatched the previous episode.
Lots of water rushing down.
It's, it's interesting watching aseries that was intended to be aired and
(05:30):
watched weekly as a, as a, in one sessionbingeable series, because they do do the,
oh, we have to remind the, the audiencewhat happened in the last episode.
Like, Hmm, you really don't, weliterally just watched the last episode.
And it's, it's also like, oh, wehave to te like show people who may
have missed last week's what went on.
(05:51):
Yeah.
I mean, in nowadays it's not thatso much because it's easy to, to
catch up or a lot easier to catch up.
Um,
yeah, like these days inAmerica, it's on Hulu.
Hulu the next day orthat night or something.
Yeah.
So
yeah, like 20, 25 years ago there wasno way to watch the previous episode.
You just.
(06:11):
If you hadn't recorded it on your VCR.
Yeah.
Um, then you just missed it.
Which is why like you watch, ohmy god, Friends is the worst.
I know that it was necessary at thetime, but when they do their clip shows.
Yeah.
And it's just an episode oflike previous clips and it's
like, I know I just watched it.
But then you remember that back in theearly thousands and nineties, like they
(06:33):
couldn't just go and watch highlights.
So they made an episode of highlights.
Yes.
Supernatural is terrible for it as well.
Yeah.
Like shows like basically every scenethat happened in the last episode.
Yeah.
Before you get to the new stuff.
But anyway, yes, we are gettingan explanation of what happened.
So at the moment they don't know how highthe death count is, um, but the emergency
(06:54):
workers are searching for people and
spread very thin.
You know, the, the Hollywood Hills areais extremely dangerous and unstable.
This is before the quake hasstarted, because the Hollywood
sign is still in place.
Um, although we're not gettingthe two hours before the dam burst
in this episode, we are, however, getting once again slightly on
(07:17):
the nose, um, musical cues because
slightly on the nose?
Um, we're gonna get, uh, an excellentsong by Carole King called "I
Feel the Earth Move" in an episodewhich involves micro quakes.
Um, I mean, it, it's not up there.
I think we're gonna have to make a listat some point, at some point in the
series and let's talk about like the, thetop five what is the most inappropriate
(07:40):
musical cue this show has used.
And I think that one might be
Inappropriate or brilliant?
Yeah, I think this episodehad two of them too.
I might be wrong, but I feel likeit had two terrible needle drops.
Well, we'll continue and we'll find out.
But this is definitely one of them.
Um,
Definitely one of them.
(08:01):
So we are up on Mount Lee where theHollywood sign is still in place.
Um, and we have a group of young peoplegoing on a hike, uh, which is not
advisable because we do get a lingeringshot on a "no access to the Hollywood
sign" sign that they're walking towards.
(08:22):
And two of them arenot having a good time.
So the, these two guys are twins.
Um, and I'm looking atgoing, are they twins?
And actually are twins.
Are they twins?
It's just like they're, theylook so similar except different.
I just thought they were friends.
They're twins.
No, they're twins.
Yeah.
Seriously?
Like the actors are twins.
Yeah.
(08:43):
What?
And they played roommates?
No, they're, aren't theybrothers who live together?
They live together, but Iassumed they were roommates.
Housemates, yeah.
Well, when I found out that theywere actually brothers, I just
headcanoned in that they were,
hang on.
Everyone's doing a quick search.
I've got it open.
No, I've got it open at the moment.
(09:03):
Hang on.
I'm just waiting for thebloody IMDB to load again.
Come on phone.
You can do it.
Um, Dylan and Caleb are played by reallife brothers, Shane and Garrett Coffey.
Okay, there you go.
I just assumed that they were roommates.
Yeah.
Did not pick up any familial represent.
You didn't you didn't thinkthat they looked similar
(09:24):
Nope, not at all!
No, because
oh my god,
'Cause, um, Dylan's got like the, the,um, like the nerd thing going and, and
Caleb's got like the, the football, allAmerican football jock sort of thing.
Nope.
Did not tweak.
Okay.
At all.
Not
I picked them straight away somehow.
(09:44):
They're not twins though,because one's born, um.
Maybe, I don't know.
I did pick up on that, the factthat there are three people in this
storyline, and yet we only have twonames, because once again, nobody
thought to name the female character.
Oh,
classic.
Really?
Really.
(10:05):
And it pissed me off because theymanaged to drop in Caleb's name and
they managed to drop in Dylan's name.
They could very easily havedropped in the girlfriend's name.
Did not bother to do it.
Huh.
So, unfortunately, for our listeners, she is just gonna be girlfriend
because according to my rule that, you know, I imposed myself, um, I,
(10:26):
I can't name a character unless theyget named somehow in the episode.
Yeah.
Okay.
Okay.
Looks like they're not twins.
It just says sibling.
Caleb is the one who is.
So going out with the girl, obviously.
Yes.
And he is like, has convinced theothers to come on this hike with him
(10:46):
and the others are not into it at all.
No.
And his girlfriend is like, "I'mnot dressed to scale anything.
I thought we were just going for awalk." And he's like, "Come on, it's
not that steep." And they're having abit of an argument about how the, he
always springs stuff on her and, andnever, you know, consults with her first
to which Dylan is in the background.
(11:07):
Just nodding in agreeance.
And then we get into a bit of an argybargey and we realize that things
might not all be sunshine and rosesbetween the friend group because, um,
apparently not only does Caleb liketo spring things on his girlfriend,
he likes to spring things on Dylantoo, including moving said girlfriend
(11:28):
in with them during the pandemicwithout consulting with Dylan first
and the girl girlfriend, ohGod, I can't call her that.
I don't even know what her name is.
But girlfriend,
Because she doesn't have a name.
That's the point.
We, she doesn't have a name.
It's girlfriend.
We can, we can give her a name.
What's the actress's name?
Does anyone have the wiki still open?
Um, yeah, I've got the Wiki still open.
Hang on.
(11:49):
I think it's Katie.
Katie?
No, that, that's Katie is the nameof the girl of the actual character,
which pisses me off.
Which means Katie
Her name is Jaylen,
which means that somewhere in a scriptthey cast her and said "We have named
her Katie." They just did not think toimpart that information to the audience.
What the fuck?
Please tell me that a man wrote thisotherwise I'm gonna get very angry.
(12:10):
No, Lindsay, what the hell?
Oh no.
I was totally gonna be on board withlike misogyny if this was a man, like
typical male writer, forgetting to namethe female characters, but Lindsay.
Um, all right, well I guess we can.
So I guess you can, youguys can call her Katie.
(12:34):
Apparently that was her name.
Even though Lindsay forgot toput it in the fucking script
for someone to say the name.
Well, Katie is, um, a, a hurt by this.
She thought that Dylan liked havingher around, that she called them.
She said no, "You said we werethe Quaranteam," which is so cute.
(12:59):
Yeah,
while they've been arguing, they'vefinally made it up to the Hollywood sign
and they've, Dylan notices that thereare a lot of helicopters flying around.
And we do, we get a shot.
There is a LAPD helicopter and several, they're either fire or search and rescue.
I'm not entirely sure, but there area lot of helicopters concentrated
(13:21):
in this region, um, which Calebjust brushes off and says, "it's
LA, there's always helicopters."
I mean, yes, but probably not thismany around a dam, but you know,
not this many in this specific area.
Uh, so they decide that they'regoing to take their selfies to prove
that they were up at Hollywood sign, and just as they do, the ground
(13:42):
starts rumbling underneath them.
What's that?
They feel the earth move.
They feel the earth move under their,
under their feet?
Yeah.
Oh my God.
It's not the sky tumbling down
No, we've had that episode already.
It's, it's the H
Yes.
The, the H and the O's start tumbling downand, um, they hightail it out of there.
(14:08):
It was very interesting the waythat they shot, the way that
the letters were falling down.
It remember, God, I don't even wanna puta like year reference on this, but do you
remember when they, Hollywood went throughthis phase of all movies were made in 3D.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Uh, the way that they filmed the Hcoming down reminded me of like, horror
(14:32):
movies that were shot in 3D the way
it was like coming right out the camera?
The, like, it was designed that wewere meant to be sitting there with
like, the 3D projector or something.
So it was gonna come outof the screen towards us.
Okay.
I don't wanna make you feel old,but that was like around 2009.
Yeah,
I was gonna say early two thousands.
Yeah.
(14:52):
It's very specifically like FinalDestination four or something.
That's literally what I googled,was Final Destination 3D,
I was like, oh, what's the name ofthat movie I saw that was really Yep.
Final Destination.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's the one where it's a race trackand like the, the cars are flinging
(15:13):
off the track into the stadium.
Yeah.
And the other one, um, and where the girlgets like suction cupped or the guy gets
suction cupped to the bottom of the pool.
Oh, and then it like explodesout towards the screen.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, okay.
Well, the first, the first movie Iwent to see in 3D was How To Train Your
Dragon, and it was amazing and I loved it.
(15:35):
And it's my favorite.
That's so, so much more G ratedand Bex and I are just like, yeah.
Remember when we hadblood sprayed on our face?
Okay, so this, I mean,obviously it's television.
It was not designed for 3D.
That's just what it reminded me of.
Um, How To Train Your Dragonwas also 2010, so yeah.
(15:57):
Around the same era.
Oh,
yep.
But that was like two years ago, right?
Yeah.
Yeah.
At least.
Like it's gotta be two years ago.
Five at most.
Unfortunately, 2020 was five years ago.
So
What's, what's interesting about oncewe've seen the Hollywood sign, like come
(16:19):
flying at us through the screen as ifit's trying decapitate us, is that we also
get a shot of, as a segue to continue thestory of Sylvia's house from the back.
So the last episode, we saw itfrom street level and, and we
watched it disappear from the curb.
This time we get to see the back of it,and no wonder the fucking thing collapsed.
(16:41):
It's built on stilts onthe side of the cliff.
Yeah.
It's one of those like fancy houses thatis juttered right out from the cliff.
Yeah.
Like as it was collapsing atthe end of the last episode, I'm
pretty sure we saw the back of it.
I was expecting it to be like, but it, it protrudes right out.
Like she's got a pool or somethingin the back of it as well.
(17:03):
So.
It's, it's quite, I mean,
um, it's an earthquake prone area.
Yeah.
More fun GTA facts, because I knowyou guys love hearing about GTA five.
Um, but in one of the early missions, you actually like attach a, um, like
attach a rope to one of those houses, like the stilts to one of those houses
(17:25):
and pull down the whole back of it.
Oh,
oh yeah.
It's fun.
And then as you're driving past, you see like, like as the story
progresses, you see like constructioncrew starting to fix it up.
It's really cool.
Um, also when I first this, um, Iwas at like, once the Hollywood sign
fell down, I was like, ah, actuallysurprised it took until season four
(17:48):
for them to break the Hollywood sign.
Yes.
Considering it's a majorlandmark of the city.
Yeah.
Probably took them that longto get permission to do it.
So yeah, we're in the,um, the "Ollywood" Hills.
And there's a wide shot ofSylvia's house down the hill and
we go inside and Athena is okay.
(18:11):
She is coughing, but shemanages to pull herself up.
Um, Sylvia's also, okay, like Athena asksif she's all right and she says No, but as
Athena says "Me either, but we're alive."
Yeah.
If she's not hurt yet, shelooks okay in my, yeah.
Sylvia's, "This is whyI don't leave the house.
Bad things happen," and Athena'slike, "This bad thing happened
(18:33):
while you were in the house." Like,
yeah.
That argument no longer,um, holds any weight.
Yeah.
This is funny 'cause she, uh,Athena asked her if she has a cell
phone and Sylvia says she doesn't.
But then Athena says that sheleft her phone in her car and
she lost her radio in the fall.
(18:53):
But she finds it again a bitlater because she radios dispatch.
Yeah, she does find it.
Yeah.
She finds it while she'sclimbing back up later.
Does that mean that Sylvia, like Sylvia works from home?
We establish that.
Does that mean that she'sexclusively used a landline?
She doesn't have a smartphone at all.
I guess so.
(19:14):
Yeah.
A smartphone and a desktop computer.
Oh my God.
Well, she hasn't beenoutside for seven years,
but, but you don't use the, youdon't internet use a smartphone
to, you know, talk, it's likegames and, and stuff like that.
She's got a computer for that.
It's like looking up IMDB.
What else do you do with it?
Yeah, so, yes, so they're, they areincommunicado with the outside world.
(19:36):
There is, um, they can see sunlight comingthrough, uh, a hole in the side of the
house, which is now their roof I guess.
And Athena says that there aregonna be plenty copters in the sky.
They just have to climbout and signal for help.
Yeah.
Easy, right?
(19:56):
So they start climbing.
Yes.
Um, we find the 118 ata mobile command center.
Uh, it's not just the 118 there though.
There's a bunch of different housesthere and someone, we don't know
what their name is, but there's alady who is the commander type thing.
(20:17):
Right?
Coordinator or something.
Yeah.
Once again, according to the Wikipedia, she has a name, but uh, it's never
used in conversation and I never got agood enough look at either her turnout
or if she has a badge on somewhere.
So I don't know what her name is.
I've just been calling her the BattalionLeader 'cause that's what she is.
I don't know why she's specificallya battalion leader, but that's
(20:39):
what it says on her helmet.
So that's what we're going with.
Sure, why not.
And she's briefing Bobby and Hen,and the only reason I know it's
Bobby and Hen is that Bobby'sgot "captain" on his helmet and
they've got the masks on.
Hen's the only Black person on the 118.
So
Right,
(21:00):
because yeah, they've got face maskson, got face masks and helmets.
All you can see is their eyes.
They've got the niceface mask with like the,
the branding,
the LAFD branding on 'em.
Yeah.
So she tells Bobby about, um,they've only got two casualties so
far, but they're gonna find more.
But the LAPD was evacuatingpeople when the hill came down.
(21:23):
So they're a bit concerned aboutwhat happened with Athena because...
actually did they know thatAthena's out there at this stage?
Maybe that's later.
I think they must do at some point.
There was a scene between Bobby and Maywhere May was expressing her concern
that she had not heard from Athena.
And I think last,
I'm pretty sure it was last week.
(21:43):
Last, yeah, so last week.
Yeah, it was last week.
May was like, "Oh, like mum's outthere doing things," and Bobby's
like, "Yeah, she's working.
Leave her alone." So they do know.
Bobby doesn't know that Athena's trapped.
No, but they do know.
They do know that she'sout on the streets and
Yes.
So they, the look between he and Bobby islike, oh, Athena is out here somewhere.
(22:03):
But the battalion leader obviouslyhas not been caught up on the gossip
that like the captain, the 118and police sergeants, they're like
married, so she doesn't realize thatshe's like slightly put a foot in it.
Yeah.
Um, but yeah, so Bobby does ask ifany officers have checked in with
mobile command and the battalionleader says, not that they've seen.
(22:26):
So Bobby is like keeping Athena in theback of his mind, but he has to work.
So she tells them that theollywood sign is falling down.
Um, there was some hikers in thearea and, and Chim says, "Guess
they should have bought a vowel,"Because all the letters are falling
down and Hen just looks at him.
(22:49):
But they, like Bobby tells Hen andEddie to come with him to the sign
and Chim and Buck have to staythere and search for survivors.
And Hen tells him that that'spunishment for his bad jokes.
And he's like, "no, they're dad jokes."
No, it's just bad.
To remind us that he's gonna be a dad.
Yeah.
So he's like,
just in case we forgot.
"I'm getting in the habit early, I knowI'm gonna be a terrible father." And
(23:11):
it's just like, oh, what Chim you arenot, your jokes are bad, but I'm sure
jokes are terrible.
Um, but yeah, it's, it's interestingthat this episode, they have
Chimney and Buck working together.
Yeah.
I'm assuming
changing it up.
It's because they want oneparamedic on each team.
(23:31):
Yeah, that would make sense.
But yeah, it was justan interesting change.
'cause usually we seeBuck and Eddie doing stuff
While the 118 get to work ,wego back, uh, not go back because
we haven't been there yet.
Um, we go to dispatch, um, whereeveryone else is frantically
working, answering phone calls.
But Maddie and May are just standingwatching television, um, where the
(23:54):
Channel eight news helicopter isflying over the, the Ollywood Hills
and Mount Lee and they show footageof a patrol car that got caught in the
mudslide, which May points out, justso happens to be Athena's patrol car.
And when Maddie questions her like, "areyou sure?" I'm like, Maddie, it says 7
(24:18):
2 7 on top of the car you have calledAthena over the radio enough times,
surely you remember her call sign, um,May says, "Well, I may have like hacked
into the system to find like her location.
So yes, I know that mymother was in that area.
Um, can we like radioher to try to find her?"
And Maddie's like, "Hmm.
(24:39):
We would normally wait for the officersto call in for us," and May gives her
like pouty face, puppy dog eyes, and sheimmediately folds and says, "All right,
we'll make an exception this one time."
As this episode progresses,Maddie is just getting like more
and more done with May's shit.
Like, she's like, "okay, fine,"
(25:01):
It's good training
We'll do it this time.
Um, so she calls, yeah, theydo radio, uh, for Athena and
asks her what is her status,
but of course,
but they don't hear anything.
We've, we've learned earlier that Athenahas lost her radio, so she can't answer.
And May just pouting a little bitand, and tells Maddie and the audience
(25:26):
that, um, you know, she's not evensupposed to be out in the field.
She's on desk duty.
And Maddie's like, "well, youknow what, on my first day
there was a 7.1 earthquake."
Yeah.
So stop your whinging.
Yeah, if I can survivethat, you can handle this.
Um, she does it a little bit nicer away.
She's like " I will give you the sameadvice that Josh gave me on that day.
(25:48):
They, we all have peoplewe love out there.
The best thing that we can dofor them is our job." Yeah.
And then she just immediately dismissesMay and starts picking up calls.
May's like, okay, fine.
Well, yeah, she's busy.
Uh, and, and May does then tryto call Athena on, on a phone.
But you see, Athena doesn'tanswer that either, so.
(26:10):
Yep.
Uh, so Chim and Buck are likewalking into the, up into the hills.
It's all muddy underfoot.
Seems like a risky kind of thingto do, walking up a mudslide, but
they've gotta try and find peoplewho are buried in their houses.
Yeah.
So they're calling for people.
(26:31):
Um, they find someone, but theydidn't make it so they mark
the location and keep moving.
Then Chimney hears something, he hearsthe sound of a baby crying, but it's
a, it's like a weird echoey kind ofsound of a baby crying and they end up
(26:51):
finding, not a baby, but a baby monitor, which I don't know how the hell the
baby monitor ended up where it ends up.
Yeah.
Where, how did it get outside.
Yeah.
How it end up outta the house.
Like it, and it's not even
like it got flung out the window somehow?
Plus it's not even like next to the housebecause then they have to go searching
for the house that it's connected to.
So it's not like it got flung outthe window, it got flung out the
(27:13):
window and taken like halfway downthe mountain or something, um,
and then ended up on top of the debris.
Yes.
But that becomes the questionlike, yes, there's the baby
monitor, so where's the baby?
Where's the baby?
Yeah.
Um, so yeah, for the drama, there'sa magical baby monitor, but they
don't know where the baby is
(27:33):
with incredible range.
Like it's still
the most top of theline baby monitor ever.
The, it's still pickingup like the transmitter.
Uh, but that's it.
We get like, so there's thebaby monitor, where's the baby?
And then boom, commercial.
Like my phone doesn't even workif I'm in like a parking garage.
But sure, the babymonitor works under mud.
(27:55):
It's fine.
I mean, I don't think mud isquite as dense as concrete.
Well, the top of the house they find isactually sticking outta the mud, isn't it?
Like the roof is stickingout so it's not under mud.
But the transmitters like stilldown... anyway for the drama,
like this entire episode.
Yeah, it does.
(28:15):
It doesn't matter.
Sorry.
Um, yeah, so we go back to the,
the Ollywood Hills,
Ollywood Ills um,
where like tour guide Bobby istalking about the history of
the Hollywood Hills because,
oh my God, literally this is like, it'slike Buck info dumping, but it's Bobby
and it's just like, oh, you are his dad,
(28:38):
because God bless him, when Bobbyfirst arrived in LA he did all
the touristy things because hewanted to know more about the area.
So he took a tour of the HollywoodHills and he found it very informative.
Um, yeah, so apparently this isn't thefirst time the Hollywood sign has fallen.
Legend has it back in the day, agroundskeeper got drunk and crashed
his car into it and knocked down the H.
(29:00):
I don't know how you'd crash your carinto it, isn't it on the side of a
Yes.
Like a steep hill.
Yes.
I'm maybe the car would like, there's like a dirt track around it.
So, yeah.
Um, I dunno, I guess hewas doing the dirt track.
If I'd cared enough, Iwould've looked that up.
I to like fact check Bobby, but I didn't.
So we'll just go with
it.
We'll just believe him for the time.
(29:21):
We believe Bobby
for the drama we believe him.
In Bobby we believe,
Honestly my knowledge of the Hollywoodsign comes again from GTA, um, and
yeah, there's like a track to it.
And my favorite part is...
Have you ever driven your car into it?
That there's, yes.
Um, there's, it doesn't fall.
I'm very disappointed.
Um, my favorite thing is that there'slike a big sign on the letters that
(29:44):
are like, no hiking in this area'cause you're not actually allowed
to go up to the Hollywood sign.
Um, and then there's always hikers becausethey didn't actually code out the ability.
Or maybe there just arealways hikers up there.
Maybe despite the signs.
Despite, despite the signs.
Um, but yeah, I've climbed the, I'm tryingto remember what it's actually called in,
(30:07):
um, actually maybe in Bobby Nash wecannot trust because Wikipedia has a lot
of information about what has happenedto the sign since it was erected in the
twenties, and none of them include beingknocked over by a ground keeper in a car.
Oh.
So I think Bobby was had.
(30:29):
Wow.
Mm-hmm.
Either that or the 9-1-1 Universe isdoing its parallel thing where other
stuff happens that we don't get.
Apparently in the seventies, the Obroke in half and became Hullywood sign
Hullywood.
(30:51):
Yeah.
Um, the thing I like about this sceneis that, um, they can't find the sign
to start with, like the H They Yes.
They, they've hiked it all overthe hills and they're like.
"We should be able to see it. It's a giantH," and then they, they eventually stumble
on it and the, the, the hikers are there.
And then when Bobby calls for like, reinforcements and they're like,
(31:14):
"is there any landmarks in thearea?" And he is like, oh yeah,
Funnily enough...
like, Bobby, you couldn't find, youcouldn't find this H a moment ago.
Like, I assume it'll bemore visible from the air,
but yes, I was gonna say...
Oh, wow.
So the Hollywood sign wasoriginally erected in 1923 as
a temporary advertisement for alocal real estate development.
(31:34):
Oh, wow.
And
it originally said "Hollywoodland." oh.
And then in 1949, they removed the "land".
Right.
Then it was replaced, like the letterswere replaced with steel in 1978.
Well, thank you random facts Buck.
Um, well, no, not thank you Random factsBuck, because it was Random facts Bobby.
(31:56):
And it was,
it was random facts, Bobby.
Incorrect Random facts.
Yeah.
Bobby's useless.
Um, apparently, sorry, Bobby.
Poor Bobby.
He's trying,
But yes, they finally find the H andCaleb and his girlfriend are on the
ladder attached to the back of the H,and poor Dylan is waist deep in mud.
(32:19):
Hang on.
The letter H was destroyed inearly 1944, but they blamed winds.
Yeah.
Alright.
It doesn't matter.
No, I'm really investedin this Hollywood sign now
We're believing Bobby.
Okay?
Bobby calls for a, a, a supplydrop of plywood so they can
(32:39):
get Dylan out of the mud
and they can get the other two down off.
Yeah.
So we go back to the chaos twins.
Um, Chim is, they're trying to work outhow they're gonna find this baby and he's
like the, it's gotta be nearby, right?
And Buck's.
Like "why, why can't, it'd be goodif we could like ping it, like
(33:01):
find my phone type thing." AndChim doesn't think that's a thing.
Pretty sure it is actually.
But yeah, Buck says that it should be,
it should be.
Um, Buck says it should be.
And Chim's like, "Well, maybe you'llinvent it for when I misplace my kid,
you know what's gonna happen. I use,I lose my phone at least three times
a week." And it's just like, what?
But that's not gonna work if it'sthe transmitter, because unless
(33:24):
you're like strapping the transmitterto the kid, you just find the
transmitter and not the child.
In this situation,
unless you're gonna like put a,like an NFC tag like under your
child's skin or something so thatyou can, you know, ping your baby.
Don't give people ideas,
but like attach the air tag to it.
(33:47):
Yes, I was thinking morepermanently, but that's just me.
Um, but thankfully they don't have todo anything like that because as Chimney
goes to call for backup they realize thatthe radios radio frequency interferes
with the frequency that the baby monitoris working on and they get feedback.
(34:12):
So then Buck has the idea thatif they just follow the feedback,
they'll find the transmitter.
So they just have to keeptransmitting over radio.
Yeah.
Find my baby.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Which he, I mean he thought outside thebox, it seems stupid, but it actually
(34:32):
turned out to be a very good idea.
Buck absolutely has thebrain cell this episode.
It's 'cause he is separated from Eddie.
Like the further he gets from Eddie, the more his brain cell becomes normal.
Um, he's got the brain cell andhe's got the judgment this episode.
Yes.
Uh, because as they start searchingfor the, um, the baby, um, Chimney
(34:57):
notes that on the, through the,the radio, they only heard a baby.
They didn't hear an adult.
So he immediately jumps to worstcase scenario that the baby is now
an orphan and Buck calls him on it.
He's like, "you really are just, you really always do go worst case
scenario, don't you?" And Chim's like,"Are you judging me?" And Buck's?
(35:18):
Like, "Yes, you know, I am judging youbecause you're having a kid with my
sister, but you're living on my couchbecause of this whole doom and gloom
over the pandemic that you've got goingon. Like the worst case scenario."
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like I, it, it's pretty clear thatBuck's sick of Chim being on his couch.
He does sound pretty fed up, doesn't he?
(35:38):
Yeah.
Like it's like when you've got thatfriend that like overstays their
welcome and it's just like, yep, cool.
I actually have errands to run.
Please leave.
Is it like, is it, it could be thatBuck wants Chim off his couch, but
it could also be that Buck justwants Chim back with Maddie because
like he's gonna be a father and afather should be with Maddie and
(36:01):
Yeah, he knows that Maddie's missing him,
he's trying to keep the family together.
I'm sure Maddie as well, like Maddie'shis sister and so I'm sure Maddie's
been texting him just like, why thefuck is he still go at your house?
Buck's like, I don't fucking know.
He won't fucking leave.
I don't know what youwant me to do, Maddie.
So Buck's probably had it from all sides.
Like he just wants Chim togo back to his pregnant life.
(36:21):
I mean we, I meangirlfriend and deal with it.
We know that Buck has thisreally big thing about families.
So as far from his perspective,it looks like that there's a
family that Chim is sort of very, very deliberately keeping apart.
He's like, no, that I'm nothaving that, that is not on.
You are even, you're making a familygo be with your fucking family.
(36:43):
Yeah.
Yeah.
But Chim's like convinced that hewill be a bad, he'll be a crappy
dad over video conferencing.
No, it's so sad.
Um, if the world never goes backto, to normal and, uh, Buck's
like, "you're gonna be a greatdad. What are you talking about?"
That's, it's such a sad line wherehe says, you know, that he'll be a
(37:06):
crappy dad over video conferencing.
That's actually somethingthat I have experience with.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And he thinks just because his dadwas shitty, that he is gonna be, he's,
he's destined to be a shitty dad too.
Like, but that's why you go, you gooverboard in the other direction.
You don't just resignyourself to your fate.
Yeah.
And Buck reminds him that he takes careof total strangers every single day.
(37:30):
Um, but then they're interruptedby the feedback going and we get
possibly the greatest interaction...
I love this
in the history of the show.
Yeah.
So they find,
I just laughed so hard.
They find the house that they assume isgoing to be where the baby is, and it's
a, um, a flat roof that is up to the, like gutters in mud and they cannot see
(37:56):
any way of getting into the house except,
So Chimney goes, "How do we get inside?"And Buck just goes, "Chimney." Chimney's
like, "What?" And Buck's like "What?"
It's just the way that Bucklooks at him, like he's.
Like he doesn't understandwhat he is saying.
"What? No, there's a chimney."
(38:18):
Yeah, there is a chimney.
Oh, the chimney
there was saying these are called Chimney.
We can go through the chimney.
It's an excellent acting.
Excellent Oliver Acting Oices.
Oh, it's fantastic.
The greatest thing.
Yeah.
Then we go back to Athena, whois still stuck in a house and
(38:40):
is still climbing up the house.
But their luck changes becauseAthena finds her radio and
thankfully it is still working.
It
still worked and didn't get crushed.
I'm assuming It also didn't get like, locked onto the broadcast option.
So like nobody has been forced tolisten to her climb through this
(39:01):
house for God knows how long.
Uh, so she is able to,uh, radio into dispatch.
I love that Maddie's like, "What'syour location?" And Athena's like,
"Well, it was 1415 Ledgewood drive,but I don't know where we've landed."
Maddie's like, yeah, I'm pretty sure thataddress has moved since the last time.
(39:27):
But your con, your patrolcar is still there.
May rushes over to listen in becausesomehow... oh no, she, she must have
hear Maddie speaking about like,
yeah, she hears the call sign
727 L30, so yeah.
Yep.
She rushes over to listen in.
Athena asks for a lift out.
Um, Maddie tells her that thereare units in the area, but the mud
(39:50):
is slowing them down, that they'llget to her as soon as they can.
And that's not good enough for May.
She's like, "Can't you put a rush on it?
Tell them that there's an officerin distress or something,"
and Maddie just points at thescreen and said like, "I did."
Yep.
I already did.
Like Maddie knows how to do her job.
She's good.
But then we get anotheraftershock slash micro quake.
(40:12):
And this one, everyone does hear overthe radio because while the house is
shaking and Athena's being flung around, she keeps her finger on the radio.
She's really good at that.
Yeah.
Or maybe it's still broken from before.
Actually, no, that waslike six months ago.
So surely
you would've hoped it fixed.
It's a different radio then.
(40:33):
So they hear rumbling, they hear Sylvia screaming.
Um, and then it's just silence.
And May's having a panic.
May is freaking out.
Yeah.
Poor May.
Maddie would've just gone like, this is not the worst that
I've heard over the radio.
All right, so the hikers are stillhanging onto the, the H that's sticking
(40:54):
outta the ground, but, and they, thekid is still in, um, stuck in the
mud too, and they're trying to tellhim not to move because he's getting.
You know, sucked down.
Yeah.
But other firefighters have arrivedand they are laying plywood around,
which allows Caleb and his girlfriendto get down off the, uh, unstable
H and it also allows the 118 toget a little bit closer to Dylan.
(41:17):
Yep.
The mud is gonna start toconstrict, restrict his lungs.
He is gonna have trouble breathing, but he's gonna be all right.
Although Dylan's like, "I'm gonnadie!" He's sort of panicking.
Everyone else is like, no,it's gonna be all right.
Just calm, calm down.
And his brother and the girlfriend or hisroommate, whatever, um, no, he, he does
(41:40):
say " Me and Caleb are roommates." Theydon't even say that they're brothers, even
though they look exactly alike anyway.
No, you just, you just immediatelyjumped on the brother bandwagon.
We're all out here with just roommates
anyway.
Caleb and the girlfriend arelike, not at all sympathetic.
They're like, "just shutup and stop moving."
(42:00):
Um,
yeah, Dylan's like beenmoaning like, oh, wo is me.
Caleb's like, "you're acting like I forcedyou to come out here. I was just trying
to be nice and include you in like, likethird wheel allow you to be the third
wheel on our date." The girlfriends, Ithink she's getting a little bit upset at
the way Caleb, I mean the way he's acting.
(42:21):
I could believe thatthey'd be brothers though.
The animosity between the two of them.
Um, yeah
and she's like, she's sort of explainingto Bobby that they're all roommates
and Dylan comes back with, "No, meand Caleb are roommates. You came
over for dinner and never left."
And Hen's face is just funny.
(42:44):
Like we get a full zoomin on Hen and like.
Aisha's eye acting is amazing likethat because she's wearing a mask.
Yeah, yeah.
You just go, whoa.
Yeah.
Everybody has to put all of their, um,acting into their eyebrows and their eyes
and they're all doing a really good job.
So, yes.
(43:04):
So Dylan is freaking out.
The more he freaks out, thedeeper he sinks into the mud.
Um, but they can't just yank himout, um, because as he said, it
him out, they'll rip him in half.
It'll rip him in half because his likebottom half will continue to be stuck in
the mud and the top half will come out.
And despite what I said earlier about,it's trying to be like a 3D horror
(43:27):
movie, I don't think that that's what9-1-1 is going for at this stage.
So they need something to go into the mudto support him so they can pull him out.
Nothing on the trucks, nothing oftheir tools are going to suffice.
So they start cannibalizingthe H of the Hollywood sign.
(43:51):
Yeah.
They just start cutting it up andit's like, oh, I feel like that
should be like some sort of sacredthing, even though I know it's not,
but it's already broken
and it's already broken, but it just feels wrong.
I'm sure they'll be making a new one.
Like,
and as you've just discovered, likeit's only what, 40 years old, so
it's already been replaced once.
Yeah.
It just feels wrong.
(44:11):
Like, like why are cutting it up?
So the kid's rapidly is rapidlysinking into the mud, but they, they
still have time to like go and grabthe tools, then start hacking into
the sign and then cut the sign apartso they can get something back to
him without him sinking any further.
I'm, I'm assuming that the saw was inthe pack that they brought with them.
(44:32):
Like they would've just hadtheir backpacks, it had all of
their just in case tools, so
Oh, well I hope no one went runningback down the hillside to get them.
Or up the hillside.
I don't know what directionthey've come from.
Were they up or down?
Doesn't matter.
Across the hillside?
I dunno.
Because, because that's not thedrama we need to be focusing on.
We need to be focusing on the lovetriangle because Dylan decides
(44:52):
that now is the perfect time whilethe mud is constricting his chest.
He can't get the mud off his chest, so heis gonna get other things off his chest,
um, including that he is in love withhis roommate slash brother's girlfriend.
And her reaction is just, "I loveyou too, bud. Go quaranteam!"
(45:18):
She doesn't like,
no, I'm in love with you.
I'm in love with you.
And it's like, um, let's know,
Hen's just loving this.
She's like, oh, the plot thickens.
The girlfriend is very confusedbecause she's like, but you've
been a total jerk to me.
And I'm thinking, oh, it'svery much Love Actually.
Like that whole plot with, um,like the best friend anyway.
(45:43):
Yeah.
He is like, "I've been a jerk to youbecause it has been killing me. Having
to live under the same roof as youwith you two kissing and canoodling."
Ah, I'm sure I read afic in this vein once.
And
for
some reason Hen wants Bobby tohurry up the rescue operation.
I, I would be more wantingjust to sit back and see what
(46:04):
happens with these three.
Tell me more.
Yes.
Um, but they, they do finally get the,the ladder that was on the back of the
H, they cut it free so they can comeand stick it into the mud behind Dylan.
Yeah.
Dylan's being very dramatic.
(46:24):
Yes.
He's like, "I, I just, I didn't wanna diewithout telling you," any, and even as.
Eddie and Bobby are trying to save him.
He's still flailing around and Eddieis like telling him to stop moving
or he's gonna make things worse.
So the girlfriend decides that the bestthing to do would be to tell Dylan that
she loves him too and that he needsto listen to the firefighters and keep
(46:50):
fighting and not give up because she loveshim and she needs him to live for her.
Yeah.
And Caleb's standing therelike going, what the fuck?
But it works.
Yeah.
Like they manage to lever him out somehow.
Oh my god.
Caleb though just bugged me in thisbecause like obviously she's doing
(47:12):
it to get him to calm the fuck down.
And he's like,
At, at no point did I believe...
it's like, okay, calm down Caleb.
That she was saying it becauseshe was actually in love with him.
She was very clearly just saying like, Iam just saying this to get you to do what
they, you need to do to get out of this.
(47:32):
Yeah.
Or if you are going to die
Well clearly melodrama lives, melodrama runs in the family because
they're both as bad as each other.
So, so they get, they get Dylanout, um, and Dylan's like, "Oh
my God, it's, it's working.
I'm gonna live.
And Caleb's like, yeah, great.
Now I'm gonna kill you."
(47:56):
See?
Brothers.
Like, it's so ridiculous.
Um, so then we cut to like, when Dylan's out, Caleb's out.
Who are we out?
Um, Dylan's out
when Dylan's out.
The girlfriend's like trying to apologize.
She's like, "I'm so sorry.
Like, I just", and she's, and Caleb'slike, "oh, so you're in love with Dylan?"
(48:16):
She's like, "I thought he was gonna die.
Um, I was moved by his passion.
I thought I should say it back." AndDylan's like, "oh, so you didn't mean
it?" And Caleb's like, well, you were surequick to say it, or the other way around.
I don't know which is which anymore.
I'm pretty sure Caleb was like saying tohis girlfriend, oh, so you didn't mean it.
And Dylan's like, well, she was prettyquick to say it back to me, like just
(48:39):
needling him that little bit more.
But yeah, it's just ridiculous.
Like, your, your friend almost died.
It was clearly to try andcalm him the fuck down.
Yes.
But fragile masculinity and all of that.
Oh, clearly.
Hmm.
Anyway, they're all mad at each other.
Thankfully a helicopter arrives,um, which is there to whisk
(49:02):
them back down to safety.
Um, the girlfriend sort of looks at Henand goes, "Can I like, take the next
helicopter out of here?" Hen's like, "No.
Go Quaranteam."
Go quaranteam!.
She has no sympathy for this woman.
Zero.
And so that ended that stupid storyline,
(49:26):
which was like entertainingbut incredibly stupid.
Um, and we are gonna go back toBuck and Chimney, where Buck is
preparing to, uh, lower Chimneythrough the chimney into the house.
Yeah.
There's like a bunch of otherfirefighters around here too.
Yeah.
They called for backup.
I'm assuming they got that back up.
(49:46):
We too, get this line, which makes mebelieve that we are never, ever, ever
finding out where the name Chimneycomes from because as he's being lowered
into the chimney, um, Chimney says toBuck, uh, "In the future, if anybody
asks, this is how I got my name."
(50:09):
Yeah.
Like, okay, fine.
I guess that's what we're going with this.
So this is, this is less bad thanthe real reason he got his nickname,
apparently.
I mean, all he is doing is goingdown a chimney, so I don't know.
I don't think we'll ever find out either.
No, that's what i's saying too.
It's too much of a thing now.
They're thrown, they've thrownthat line in and that is like,
(50:32):
yeah, we are never gonna tell you.
If you wanna know why this is why, becausehe went down a chimney that one time.
Yeah,
yeah,
yeah.
Uh, but it works.
He manages to get into the house, whichseems to be in relatively good shape
except for the fact that, you know,it's like under several feet of mud.
(50:53):
Yeah, it's under a load of mud,but there's still light in there.
There's also a skylight andit's like you couldn't have
gone in through the skylight?
But No, but he can see theskylight from underneath.
I don't think they couldsee it from on top.
So it was completely covered with mud.
'cause then I think they haveto dig it out later on so
that they can go through it.
Oh, okay.
Because chimney sort of looksat it and you can see him
(51:14):
making notes of like points.
Yeah, he
points at it
Ah, skylight.
We can use that.
'cause they're not getting the babyup through the chimney I guess.
I mean, not with that attitude.
It's a very wide chimney though.
It's could definitely fita Santa through there.
Chimney.
Chimney's a very small man.
It's fine.
Apparently.
Imagine like imagine Buck, not so muchseason four Buck, but imagine season eight
(51:37):
Buck trying to get through the chimney.
Oh good lord.
Nope.
He'd get like an, he'd get likean ankle in, be like, Nope.
Yeah.
He wouldn't even get one thigh through.
Oh God, no.
Oh, don't make me cutout all the thirst again.
We're not please, we're not fatshaming, the man is built like a
(52:01):
brick shit house in season eight.
'cause he has been working onhis body and we appreciate every
second that he has put into it.
Oh yeah.
Yes.
Especially considering
Gone is twinky Buck.
Especially considering hedid it on a vegan diet.
Like damn.
Yeah, he's a very impressive man.
I would climb him like a tree.
(52:22):
Um, anyway,
There she
goes
again,
Chimney finds a woman inside the house.
Um, she has blood on her face,um, and she's quite clearly dead.
And chimney kind of clocks her ashe assumes that that's the mother.
(52:43):
He is like, okay, mysuspicions were correct.
The mother has died.
The baby is an orphan.
Now let's go and try and find the baby.
Um, yeah, which is suspiciously quiet.
Or a baby that was crying so much earlier.
Yeah.
And still like perfectlyswaddled and everything.
Yes.
'cause he finds a bassinetand baby is perfectly swaddled
(53:07):
and asleep in its bassinet.
Then he wakes it up because he's like,oh shit, is it dead or is it sleeping?
Um, but it wakes up and we get likebaby cooing version three sound file.
Oh my God.
Literally it's the, like, it'sthe baby cooing noise, but
(53:29):
it's, and i's just like, oh.
So they, they spent all their moneydestroying the Hollywood sign and
no money for like new baby coing
and, and making like a a, a gener like AIbaby, because it doesn't look like a real
baby
AI didn't exist then.
This is 2020.
What are you talking?
2021. What are you talking about?
They
still had visual effects.
This is just generic baby cooing, but it's not even like, this is
(53:51):
a teeny tiny, like newborn baby.
And that's that size babydoes not make that noise yet.
No.
Um, it's bad.
It's like the stupid kids laughing.
Yes.
Um, thing and they put itin Star Wars Phantom Menace.
And I want to scratch my brainout every time I hear it.
Yeah.
Does make
(54:11):
I know exactly what you mean.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I hate that too.
Uh, anyway, so Chim
radios back up to Buck.
Says that he's found the baby.
He's found the mother.
Um, and just as they're about to startworking to get Chimney and the baby out
of the house, suddenly, I'm assumingthat because they heard Chimney talking.
(54:36):
A woman starts screaming and Chimcontinues searching the house and finds
a, a, a door that not only is shut, but it has been like padlocked with
the giant secure lock from the outside.
Yeah.
And then the woman's like,"Help we're locked in!" As
if we didn't see the padlock.
(54:56):
Like, no, no shit woman.
But it's not a very secure padlockbecause it takes Chimney, like one
strike with his ax to break it open.
Um,
no Chimney's, just avery strong firefighter.
I just find it very ironic thatwe've had two episodes back to
back where padlocks are broken by
being smashed?
Yeah.
It's like, oh, okay.
(55:18):
So I, I question the, uh, the structuralintegrity of padlocks coming out of Los
Angeles at the, at this like timeframe.
Yes.
Um, but he, yes, hesmashes open the padlock.
He gets the door open and discoversa young woman in a nightgown
who is immediately franticallyasking him about the baby.
(55:38):
Not just the baby, her baby.
Yes.
Yes.
Because apparently, because this is the mother.
Takes Chim a little bit toput two and two together.
I think he's just shockedat seeing the room of women.
Yes.
Because not only is this young woman inthe room, there are also three other,
three other young women, and the roomis full of like cribs and baby shit.
(56:02):
And the, um, the mother is telling himthat Carol, the owner of the house,
tricked her into giving up her baby.
So Chim's worked out that Carol wasthe one who locked them in and took
the baby, but she didn't make it.
So he's feeling less bad about that now.
(56:24):
I, I do like that line.
So, uh, no one's injured, butone of the women was screaming
because she's in labor.
And so Chim radios up to Buck toask him for more reinforcements.
Because he's about to deliver a baby.
And so here's where we startgetting the parallel storylines.
(56:48):
So we are going to jump back to, uh, nolonger 4 1 55 Ledgewood Drive, um, where
after the last micro quake, Sylvia hasnow become trapped under giant, I don't
know if it's concrete or marble, or she'sstuck under something incredibly heavy.
(57:10):
Yeah, it looks like it's a bit of likeMDF or something, but she can't lift it.
Athena is, Athena Is Athena'sacting like it's heavy?
Like it's a s slub of marble?
Um, yeah.
So like, it might be MDF, but theacting is it, and, and the, the
(57:31):
dialogue is that it's crushing Sylvia.
Like, she can still breed, but it hurts.
Um, so we're all going to suspendour disbelief and pretend that they,
it is something incredibly heavy.
I don't know.
I don't know what it is, but it, yeah,it doesn't look heavy, but it's heavy.
Yeah, it looks like a slab ofconcrete, but I don't know why
there's a slab of concrete.
Maybe it's the top of herdining table, so who knows?
I don't know.
But Athena can't even move it.
(57:51):
Like she tries to moveit, but she can't even,
yeah, it's heavy.
Pick it up.
So, um, she calls in to dispatchto ask like, we need an ETA.
Like, what the hell guys?
We need to get outta here.
So May is still there, like panicking.
Yeah.
Um, Athena tries to hurry Maddie up.
(58:15):
She's like, you need toget units here quicker.
The structure has shifted.
Uh, we've slid further down.
We might not have much time.
And Sylvia contributes to theconversation by telling Athena to go
and save herself, at which point Maydives for the transmitter button and
tells Athena to listen to the victimand get out of there before they
(58:39):
both die and oh, is Athena pissed.
Oh, Athena's pissed.
Maddie's pissed.
Like, it's, we get,
they're all done now.
Athena gets that, like that specialmum voice where it's like you'd almost
prefer her to be yelling at you.
But she's gone very low and she's gonevery quiet and she's gone, "Dispatch,
(59:02):
I appreciate your concern, but I have ajob to do and I am doing it. If you want
to help get the rescue down here now."
Maddie's just like, yep, yep.
May is in trouble.
We are getting re rescue's onthe way Sergeant, she like goes
super formal, um, disconnects thecall and kicks May off the floor.
(59:22):
She's done?
Yep.
Go
take a break.
And May's like, "I have to go take abreak? You're pulling me from the floor?"
I'm like, yep, ma'am.
After what you just pulled.
Yep.
She's lucky.
She lets you come back on later thatshe didn't immediately go to Sue and say
that it is not appropriate for you tobe working the calls when your mother
(59:42):
is possibly gonna be on the other line.
Uh, so then we're back at the baby house
while they're trying to getorganized night has fallen.
Yes.
So now it's dark.
Bobby has worked out that fromwhat the women were saying, there
was an illegal adoption ring.
Um, they got coerced to giveup the babies, but he's telling
(01:00:05):
the, what did you call her?
A batal?
Battalion leader?
Battalion leader, yeah.
Yeah.
He's, he's briefing the battalion leaderabout what's going on in the baby house.
Um, apparently there werefour women down there.
One of them is in active labor.
They are clearing the roof now forextraction and the battalion leader's
like, "Great. While your guys are doingthat, um, I need to talk to you about
(01:00:30):
something else 'cause I've been updated ona situation that involves you apparently."
Oh yeah.
So while she talks to Bobby, uh, therest of the 118 are working on the house
and they have, Buck says they've dugthe sky, they've dug the skylight out.
So they are going tolower him into the house.
(01:00:53):
He's gonna get the women, put themin the harness, send them back up.
Eddie and Hen will assist from up top.
So they, he smashes the skylight open.
Um, heads down, he takes themedics bag that Hen has given him
to Chim, where Chim is with, uh,the woman who is in active labor.
(01:01:15):
Her name is Amber.
She gets a name, thankfully.
Oh good.
And he's going to deliver her baby.
While Chim gets well, Buck getseverybody else out of the house.
Amber is freaking out because she doesn'twanna have the kid down here alone.
She, they have a little heart to heartwhile she's like screaming in agony,
basically, because, you know, Chimasks about the father and Amber says
(01:01:39):
that he doesn't know he's, he wasn't agood guy and she didn't have anybody.
So there's lots of people who've beenabandoned in this episode, aren't there?
Um, lots of people whoare alone, would you say?
Alone?
Alone.
Together?
Alone, but together withother people apparently.
But Chim kind of connects with herand we, this is the whole point
(01:02:03):
for this particular storyline, isthat, um, Amber is kind of kicking
herself for believing that trustingCarol was her best option and Chim's
telling her that she was just scared.
And that people don't always make the bestdecisions when they're operating out fear.
And I hope you are looking in amirror when you say that Chim, because
(01:02:25):
Yeah.
He must have had a little lightbulb moment here because Yes.
Yeah.
So while Chimney, and here's wherelike talking about the parallel
storylines, while Chimney is workingwith Amber to help Amber give birth,
um, Athena is working with Sylvia toget Sylvia out of where she has been
trapped, almost like she's tryingto give Sylvia her rebirth moment.
(01:02:50):
So Athena is trying to find something thatshe can use as a lever to like wedge under
the incredibly dense piece of MDF and um,
lift it off Sylvia, so she could get out.
Yes.
We are not, "We're in this togetherand neither one of us is dying.
Not here, not today." Sylvia'slike, "Okay. If you say so."
(01:03:14):
I will, I will give, um, Lindsay props.
She can't name a female characterapparently, but even though the episode is
called "Alone Together", and the theme of,especially with Amber and Chim and with
Athena and Sylvia, it's about all thesepeople who are alone, um, coming together.
(01:03:39):
Nobody actually says thewords "alone together".
Yeah, no one actually says it.
Yeah, that's true.
In the same sentence.
So there's a theme.
It's a very strong theme, butit's not like name dropped.
Um, just going back to the girlfriendthat didn't have a name quickly when
like it, because it's just hit melike a good two minutes ago and I was
(01:03:59):
just like, oh, hopefully there's asegue to like to bring it back soon.
Um, so you know how we find outthrough IMDB that her name's Katie.
I was just like, whydoes that sound familiar?
Like yeah, it seems like her name.
And I literally like controlledf the document and I'm just
like, no, she's not called it.
It just hit me that it's because Kate isthe name of the last love triangle thing
(01:04:20):
that I watched, which was the Supernaturalfucking werewolf found camera thing.
Oh,
same fucking situation.
And her name's also Kate.
So apparently Kates are justsucked into love triangles?
Yeah, so look out Kate, if your boyfriendhas a best friend or a roommate.
Wait, wait, what's the name ofthe character in Love, Actually?
Like, what's KeiraKnightley's character's name?
(01:04:45):
Because if that's, if that's fucking Kate.
It's Julie.
Okay, it's Juliet.
All right.
K-Juliet?
Uh, so yes.
Um, this is a, a bigshout out to all Kates.
Be careful if you have a boyfriendwho has a best friend slash roommate,
slash brother,
he's probably in love with thatbecause he's probably in love with you.
(01:05:07):
Um, also you may turn into a werewolf.
A werewolf.
Um,
Soz.
Amber's
gonna have a baby though.
Yeah, there's a baby being born.
Um, Chimney's like "Yeah. I've heard90% of just being a good parent is
just showing up." He hasn't evenfucking seen his baby bump, but Sure.
(01:05:27):
Which just makes the rest of thisconversation even more painful, because
he does tell Amber that, you know, hisgirlfriend is pregnant with his baby,
and she's like, " You're so lucky.
I wish that I'd had someone therewith me for all of the firsts.
Like they've gone to the ultrasoundsand being there when the baby
started moving and the kicking andjust being able to reach out and
(01:05:50):
have someone take my hand." Oh.
And Chimney's like, like, oh my God.
She's like, it was so lonely.
And he's like, oh fuck.
I left her with fucking Albert who hasthe emotional capacity of a teaspoon.
Like,
oh no, that's Albert's.
No, Albert's more.
I love Albert.
But would she have like forcedAlbert to go along to the, to
(01:06:13):
the, the, um, appointments?
Well, back in Co. If it was during COVID,
it was COVID.
Like she would've been on her own anyway.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Aw.
But definitely the, like the baby kickingbecause Chim has had to experience...
like Albert's being able to see andfeel the baby kicking, but Chimney's
just had to experience it over Zoom.
Yeah.
So yeah, just like to reallylike do the parallels of
(01:06:35):
Amber and Chim in this moment.
Um, but yeah, so we transitionfrom Amber like groaning through
the contraction, um, to Athenagroaning as she tries to free Sylvia.
So Athena's trying togive birth to Sylvia?
Sylvia's also talkingabout kids for some reason.
Yeah,
I think she's, she might've like,she must've heard May and May very
(01:07:00):
clearly did say over the radio mom.
So yeah, she's gone like, okay,so you're like your daughter.
You have a daughter.
Um, but yeah, this is wherewe get Sylvia's backstory.
'cause Athena goes, "You think youdeserve to die alone in the dark just
because you lived your whole life alone?"
And Sylvia goes, "I deserve it.
'cause I never should havesurvived in the first place.
It was a car accident.
(01:07:20):
I was driving, my sister was inthe passenger seat, another ca car
came outta nowhere and I survived.
And my sister didn't.
Afterwards, everyone told me I shouldjust get back out there and move on with
my life, but without my sister in theworld, I just wanted to be in it less.
And eventually I juststopped going out it all."
And Athena is like, oh, this is, thisis starting to strike a chord as well.
(01:07:43):
And Sylvia is like, "I'm sure you haveno idea what I'm talking about, uh,
because you are not a weak person."
And Athena's, we get a littlebit of a flashback to, um, to why
Athena might be sympathizing withSylvia in this situation, being
the attack on her by Jeffrey.
Um, and she confesses that 'causeshe told Sylvia that she wasn't meant
(01:08:06):
to be back at work at this point.
Um, Sylvia thought thatshe had been injured.
Um.
And she says that the injury was becauseI was attacked and that she has never
felt more weak and she blames herselffor the attack and for being injured.
(01:08:27):
Um, she, she feels guilty the sameway that Sylvia feels guilty, and
she must have been getting some kindof therapy because she tells Sylvia
like, she can't internalize thismessage, but she can give it to Sylvia.
That the guilt, the blame doesn't help.
(01:08:49):
It only serves to isolate you and that.
Sylvia needs to push through the fear andthe pain and come out on the other side.
Uh, just like Amber needs topush and breathe so that her baby
can come out on the other side.
And you think I'm making this up,but No, because we go from that line
(01:09:13):
where Athena is telling her to pushthrough the pain, to Chimney telling
Amber to breathe through the pain.
Yeah.
Like it's not at all subtle.
Um, I do, it cracks me up inTV shows when they've got like
someone in active labor and then aparamedics like, cool, I'll help.
And because all they do is standlike they can't do anything.
(01:09:34):
Women deliver their own babies.
All you're there for is to cut, likecut and clamp the cord to counter.
So he's just having a deep, he is justhaving a deep and meaningful with this
poor woman while she's having a baby.
Like, not only that, but he'shaving this deep and meaningful
while staring at her vagina.
Well, well, that's like Jesus Christ.
(01:09:55):
Like, oh my God.
Poor thing.
But yes, like women know how, like women have been giving
birth for like millions of years.
Just leave her alone.
Stop guilt tripping.
Like stop, um, trauma dumping on her.
He can't leave her alone becauseshe can't do it by herself.
And Chim is, is is here.
He's right here.
Like I know that it has to be Chim forthe storyline because, you know, as
(01:10:18):
Amber's going through it, it's likeit's helping Chim to resolve his issues.
But Buck's been the one that's donethe field deliveries before he went
much better off down in this scenario.
And he's the one that loves babies.
So like, you know how he saidthat the skylight was dug out?
Yeah, he dug that out with his bare hands.
He's like "What, pregnant ladies? Letme at the babies! Let me at the babies!"
(01:10:45):
Bobby wasn't there to hold himback this time, so he just dug
on right, right on through.
Well, while Amber is saying that shecan't do this, Chim tells her that
she doesn't have to do it by herself.
She's not alone.
They are in this together.
Oh.
So we do get a alone together.
No, I'm paraphrasing.
Just not in the same sentence.
She says, "I can't do this by myself."And Chim says, "You don't have to.
(01:11:09):
We are in this together." So no,we don't get the words "alone
together", but we get the sentiment.
Yeah.
So then we cut back to Sylvia, who's literally just lying
there like, oh no, it hurts.
Ow.
Um, 'cause she can't do anything.
She's under a thing.
Um, and Athena is like, "You can do it,lift and push, push through the pain,
push." And then we go back to Chimwho's like, "Push Amber, push." It's
(01:11:30):
like, oh my God, what is happening?
Um, so everyone pushes.
It's a whole thing.
Um, Sylvia's free, the baby's crying.
It's a girl.
Um, it's perfect.
Only the only reason I will acceptthis scene is the music that they
play during this scene, um, which is abeautiful, um, piano and strings piece
(01:11:56):
called "Experience" by, and I did notlook up how to say this guy's name.
Um,
Ludovico Einaudi.
There we go.
We'll go with that.
Um, it's gorgeous.
Thanks, our classical music correspondent,
it was, um, trending.
It was trending on TikTok for a while.
If you, if you, I'm sure that if youhaven't watched the episode yet, you'll
(01:12:18):
get to this part and you go like, ohyeah, I remember that piece of music.
It's beautiful.
It's, it's like heart stirring and itvery much fits, um, the, the emotions
of all of these people giving birthand rebirth and being alone together
and coming through to the other side.
Mm-hmm.
(01:12:38):
And Chim asked her howshe's how she's feeling.
And Amber says "Like I'm ready to get thehell outta here," looking, sounding very
perky for someone who just had a baby.
Yeah.
But yeah, who was ready togive up two seconds ago.
Yeah.
So she's ready to get out of there.
And Sylvia is also ready to getout of her situation with Athena.
(01:13:01):
Yeah.
Well it's, it's not over yet.
'cause they got to, they haveto climb out of the house first.
They, she still has to climb.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's not over.
We're like half, well, not quitehalfway through the episode.
We're two thirds of the episode
there's still, yeah, there's still more.
There's still a lot.
So while all this is happening,May is sulking in the conference
(01:13:22):
room, and I don't understand whyshe's in the conference room and
not like sulking in the break room
because she was grounded.
But would,
she's not allowed to evenspeak to the other dispatchers
because the con
Go stare at the wall.
But the conference room is like.
We remember the setup of like dispatch, the conference room is at the end of
(01:13:42):
like the row of um, stations and it'sall glass walls so everyone can see her
sitting in there and she can see everyonelooking at her through the glass walls.
I mean, ma'am, go hide.
What is it with the showand the glass walls?
I don't know.
Apparently all officespaces have glass walls
(01:14:03):
and change rooms, yeah.
In America.
I'm sure it's just easier forshooting 'cause you can just
shoot through them, but yeah.
Yeah.
Um, so Maddie goes in to,
Maddie gives her a pep talk,
which she doesn't deserve.
Ouch.
Well she just says like, Mayapologizes and she says she was
(01:14:26):
just trying to save her mom.
That's not an apology.
Um, Maddie says, "You only made thesituation worse." Which is like, ow.
Geez, Maddie.
But yeah,
it's true
when they're, they're, they're someoneelse's lifeline when they're on
the call and "we don't get to panicno matter who is on the other end
(01:14:48):
of the line." And so May promisesher that it won't happen again.
And so Maddie lets her come back out therebecause apparently it's still very busy.
Yeah,
well, yeah it would be.
So, bodies on the floor.
Let's go.
So we cut back to the babyhouse where Amber has been
successfully lifted to the surface.
(01:15:09):
Um, Hen and Eddie are walking her toa gurney so they can get her into an
ambulance, take her to the hospital, make sure she and baby are okay.
When one of the other women that was inthe house with her comes rushing over
to her and Amber is shocked to see herbecause she thought that they would
have taken her to the hospital by now.
(01:15:29):
Um.
And she tells Amber that shecouldn't leave without her.
So Amber, it looks like Amberdoesn't have family, doesn't have a
boyfriend, but she's got a friend,so she's not going to be alone.
Oh, that's good.
It can have a littletraumatized mother's group.
Yeah, I reckon that's, that's gonnabe an interesting mother's group.
(01:15:53):
How did you guys meet?
Like you said, mother's group, atleast in Australia, mother's groups
are just a bunch of mothers thathave babies all around the same time.
The hospital?
Yeah, the hospital just puts you together.
Um, whereas this mothers group hospital, the council or this, these mothers are
gonna be like, oh, so how did you meet?
Oh, like we were all like kidnappedand our babies trafficked from us.
(01:16:15):
Um,
yeah.
And then we got rescued frommudslide together, like good times.
Um, so while.
Somebody else takes care ofAmber, the 118 rally around Chim.
Um, check in on him, check, see howhe's going after doing very little.
(01:16:39):
Um, which he cops too.
He says, you know, it was, he does, you know, "The practice run was great.
In all fairness.
I didn't have to do a lot.
I just had to kind of catch."
Um, yes,
Buck talks it up, though, Buck'slike, yeah, "He doesn't need a
practice run. He's gonna be agreat dad to a baby Buckley."
Which then I find a reallyinteresting transition.
It's like they're talking aboutdads and then Chim's next word
(01:17:01):
is like, "Hey, where's Bobby?"
Yeah, where's dad?
Speaking of dads, where's ours?
He wonders if Bobby's like got sickof it and kicked off early and Hen's
like, "no, no, he's still working."Um, 'cause he is now up in one of
those helicopters looking for his wife.
(01:17:21):
Yeah, he's busy.
Poor Bobby.
He's just, she's just gone back to work.
And she's already in the shit.
Yeah, he's looks very worried, but,um, they're trying to like, find her
by just shining like a spotlight at theground, which seems like kind of futile.
(01:17:41):
'cause it's only a very small light thatgets flashed around trying to find people.
But anyway, Athena and Sylvia can hearthe helicopter, um, and they, they get
all the way up to the surface and theylike wave around the, the flashlight,
but they, they fly, they've helicopterflies right over and they don't see them.
(01:18:01):
But Athena sees something just overthere and has a bright idea, literally,
because her car has also somehowmanaged to stay with the house as it
fell down the mountain and she's ableto, it's not, not buried in, in enough
mud to, you know, not let her openthe door or lean in an open window.
(01:18:24):
Yeah.
Somehow she manages to turn the lights on.
How, um, aren't they,
I don't know,
Aren't they connected to the engine?
Like, don't you needto turn the engine on?
I would've thought.
Apparently not.
Apparently.
It's a magical police car.
So where are the keys?
It's just a switch.
Yeah.
Magic.
She left them in the car.
Yeah, she, I mean, she probablyhad them in her pocket.
I guess.
Where is this electricity coming from?
(01:18:45):
But also how did she, likeit was buried under anyway
for the drama.
Um, it's very,
for the drama,
it's very dramatic.
It's a very, it's a very effectivemethod of getting your husband's
attention, is turning on your lightsand standing on top of your police car.
Yeah.
And she just looks so relieved.
It's a really, it's a beautiful shotactually of her standing there with her
(01:19:05):
arms up, like looking super relieved.
Is that when the spotlight hits her andshe's like, bathed in a heavenly glow?
Yes.
Yeah,
because it, because, yeah, it works.
Bobby can't see the, the torchlight, but he can see the, the
blue, the red, red and blue light.
So he turns the helicopteraround and they find her.
(01:19:26):
The first time I watched this, I was like, like, she's on, she's in the helicopter
and on the, on the radio to dispatch.
And I'm like, did they justleave Sylvia like behind?
Because I didn't notice.
Bobby watched.
Athena immediately like,forgets about Sylvia.
We don't need Sylvia anymore.
'cause as soon as the helicopterlands and Bobby gets out, Athena's
(01:19:48):
just like, "Oh, I wasn't expecting tosee you, Captain." And Bobby's like,
"Well, I heard you needed a ride."
Yeah.
And then we, we neverspeak to Sylvia again
And Sylvia's just standingthere just like I what?
No one's here for.
Yep.
Cool.
That's fine.
You guys just make out inthe back of a helicopter.
This is fine.
But when I went, wentback and watched it again.
To be fair he wasn't looking for Sylvia
Yeah, Sylvia was in the helicopter.
(01:20:09):
They did rescue her as well, so, you know.
That's fine.
So they did remember?
Okay, good.
No, because like Bobby was in thehelicopter specifically to find Athena.
Everybody else was there to rescueanybody else that needed rescuing.
Yeah.
Anyway, that it's all over now.
Everyone's fine.
So a Athena calls into dispatchto like update dispatch.
(01:20:31):
'cause in this show, remember we keepdispatch informed, um, especially
when your daughter is dispatch.
And, um, and Maddie rewards May for herbad behavior by allowing her to take,
allowing,
I just had two puppy schoolclasses this morning and now
you're just sounding like me.
(01:20:53):
Um, rewards their behavior.
Yeah.
Don't, don't let the puppies go neareach other and play when they're, like,
when they're bouncing towards each other.
Make sure they're calm first, because otherwise you're just
rewarding the bad behavior.
Um, but May proves thatshe can be professional.
She, um, because she, she acknowledgesAthena's check-in and just simply
(01:21:16):
says that, "I'm glad to hearthat you're okay." And Athena
professional as always just says,"I'm glad to hear you too, dispatch,"
she actually says, "Thanks for comingto get me." And Bobby very surprised.
Just says "Always."
Yeah, like that.
That's my job.
Yeah.
That's literally what I do.
(01:21:37):
Aw, it's cute.
He is very cute
So they share the hearteyes for a little bit.
Yeah.
While Sylvie's in the background going...
They're making out in the back ofthe helicopter and like bumping
into poor Sylvia who's just like,
she's like, I left myhouse for this bullshit?
Like, seriously?
Can somebody please takeme back to my house?
I prefer to be in there right now.
(01:21:59):
Yeah.
I don't care that it's muddy and vertical.
I would like my house back.
Oh, poor Sylvia.
Poor Sylvia.
Eventually Athena, um, gets home, although is this the same night?
Is this another night?
I, everything's a bit timey-whimey here.
We don't get the, the time update.
I think this was,
(01:22:19):
I think it must be the day because they'retalking about what happened that day.
So Michael, Bobby, andHarry are all there,
but May is also there.
May's there too.
And it looks like Bobby wasthere before Athena got there.
Maybe Athena had to godo a debrief because she,
I don't know.
Anyway,
got slid down a mountainin the line of duty.
(01:22:41):
I don't know.
So Athena walks in,
maybe she went to makesure Sylvia got a hotel.
Athena walks in and is surprisedto see everybody in her backyard,
including her ex-husband, who, Idon't know why that's a surprise.
'cause you know, he's always,I suppose he's not always
there now because it's COVID.
No, he hasn't been,
no, because of COVID.
Yeah.
He hasn't seen him in a while.
(01:23:01):
COVID's finished now apparently so.
But he brought Harry in.
He brought Harry, soshe gets to see her kid.
Um, and they wanted to celebrateher first day back at work.
Um, which Athena saysit's a lovely surprise.
Um, Michael kind of counters and says,"Well, it turns out you were the, the one
with the surprise, you know, so much fordesk duty," and Athena's like, "I was on a
(01:23:25):
desk and then the desk almost fell on me.
So that kind of counts as desk duty."
Yeah.
I always had a deskfull on my head, which.
Uh, so May goes into the kitchen toget the salads because whatever the
menfolk are grilling is almost done.
And Athena follows Mayinto the kitchen and Okay.
It is the same night, buthow late are they eating?
(01:23:48):
Yes.
Yeah.
Right night.
This is like 10 30 at night by this point.
Like how quickly does nighttimefall in LA... Did we work out?
It's this September.
When does night fall in September?
In LA?
Yeah.
September.
Well, it must be getting like earlier, butbecause it's, it wouldn't be that early.
It's late.
Like it's summer's.
(01:24:09):
It's heading into autumn.
So,
so Athena says like, if we both had onehell of a day, and Athena assumes that
after going through what May has gonethrough, she's going to give up this
like hair brained scheme of having agap year and being a 9-1-1 dispatcher.
And.
(01:24:29):
May takes that as a bit of an insult.
Like, "You think I can't do thejob," and Athena's like, "no,
I, I know you can do the job.
I just don't know why you wanna dothe job because you were gonna go
to USC, you were gonna, you know, dopre-law, you're going, maybe journalism.
You had these plans and then allof a sudden..." May's like, "Yeah,
and then you got hurt, like Dadgot cancer, you got hurt, COVID
(01:24:53):
happened," and she couldn't handleAthena going back out on the street.
So she put herself in dispatch sothat she could protect her mother.
So that even...
So sunset for LA in September is aboutseven o'clock until it gets to like, the
(01:25:15):
very end of the month is like 20 to seven.
So if it's the end of September, isit the end or the start of September?
We don't know.
It's just some... like the songis 21st day of September, but
I don't know if that's actually
Oh, true.
Yeah.
We don't know if, um, so let's say it wasbetween six 30 and seven, that the sunset,
is that like it starts to set?
Or it's fully set?
so it must be pretty late.
(01:25:35):
So this is, yeah, this is starts to set.
Regardless, it's incrediblylate to be grilling.
It's late.
They've already been flyingaround in a helicopter in the
dark, so like, yeah, yeah.
It's late anyway.
Not too late to have dinner apparently.
Or to confess to your mother that youtook a job at dispatch so that she
would never have to be alone even whenshe's by herself in the patrol car.
(01:25:59):
Which is, it's a very admirable sentimentand like I can kind of understand why
they've, why, like why this, why this wasthe reason that May took the 9-1-1 job.
Hmm.
I don't think Athena'sterribly impressed by it.
No, not at all.
(01:26:19):
She doesn't seem very happy still.
But anyway.
Well, no, because May's not looking down.
She's an independent woman, you know, she's, she works
the patrol car by herself.
She doesn't need anyonewatching out, watching over her.
Least of all.
She doesn't need her like 18-year-olddaughter watching over her.
But then also there's the, youknow, she's the parent May as the
child, if anyone's gonna be watchinganyone, it would be Athena watching
(01:26:42):
May, not May watching a Athena.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
Anyway, so then we go to Chimney's house.
That Chimney's not living in.
That's the, yeah.
Maddie gets home,
it's
the wrong Han.
And Maddie's getting home and youget like the whole COVID thing where
(01:27:02):
she takes off her masks and washesher hands and then she sees, uh.
Like bags of clothes inthe middle of the floor.
And she's sort of scolding Albertfor leaving his stuff lying around.
She's like, "Albert!"
You can't just leave yourshit all over the floor.
Yeah.
She, she like yells at Albert, goes inthe bedroom and changes out of her work
(01:27:26):
clothes into like comfortable quotes.
Uh, when she comes back, it looks likethe bags are gone and, but it's not Albert
who left them there or cleaned them up.
It's the other Han brother,
which I have no idea whathe said in any this scene.
No, because he's standing there init, a tank top and gray sweatpants
(01:27:47):
and guns are out and words are justnot, not, not, not doing anything.
Yeah, so like, I'm sure that they hadsome sort of deep and meaningful, but
like Maddie's looking real cute in likeher comfy clothes and her like, her
like scruffy haircut and Chimney's outwith like his tank top with gray sweats.
And I like, no, no idea.
(01:28:09):
Alright, allow me to explain it to you.
Maddie says very cutely, "You arenot Albert." And Chim is surprised
at how pregnant she is because he'sonly seen her from like the boobs
up on, on a, on a zoom screen.
And so he hasn't noticed how big her bellyis getting, and now it's 3D it's huge.
(01:28:37):
So, um, so he, she asks him whathe's doing here and he says, "I'm
home. If you still want me here."
And she's like, yeah, yeah.
She's like, "But, but why now?" Andhe says, "I think maybe what needs to
change is me." And so he explains, sohow he's been worried about her and he
(01:28:59):
got scared and he ran and now they'regonna try to be scared together.
So yeah, he's moved back in again.
Yay.
Yay.
Okay.
You may resume your thirsting.
I just don't know how they expectus to concentrate when Kenneth Choi
is standing there looking like that.
(01:29:19):
I mean,
yeah, like he doesn't get the guns outoften and when he does it's like, oh,
like damn.
You kind of after you know, everythingwe, I'm sure we've said this before,
but you know, all the thirstingover like Ryan and Oliver, you kind
of forget that Kenneth is built.
Yeah, Kenneth just strolls in shirtlessoccasionally and we're just like, oh Hi!
(01:29:42):
No, the young ones like, you know, take all the attention but um, hello?
And I have no qualms overthirsting over Kenneth.
'cause I think he isactually age appropriate
and size appropriate too.
I think he's like within areasonable height distance of me.
(01:30:02):
So, yeah.
Well considering, um, JenniferLove Hewitt is my height exactly.
Then yes, he's veryheight appropriate for me.
Thank you.
Just double checking.
Yeah, he is 71.
Thank you.
Years old?
71?
No, he was born in 71.
Oh, okay.
Like wow, he looks great for his age,
(01:30:30):
like, wow.
Go Kenneth!
He's 53, which I
I am, I am sad to say thatis actually age appropriate.
I mean, back then he was like, what, 40 something seven?
(01:30:52):
Yeah.
Yeah.
It was a while ago.
Uh, anyway, let's, um,
Kenny, when you listen to this,
yeah.
If you're listening,
big props, huge props.
Buy a sticker
fan, big fan of your work, man
(01:31:12):
and your guns.
And by and by work we mean welike your arms and like chest...
back at Athena residence.
Um, 'cause we've still got someof this episode to get through.
Oh, what are we doing?
Michael?
Michael is helping Athena clear up,and Athena pretty much kicks him
(01:31:34):
out of her house and tells him togo home and take care of his man.
Um, and that she will, she says that,um, you know, David looks tired.
Um, so Michael should go home andtake care of himself and she'll
keep Harry like so that a, she can,you know, see her son in person.
Um, and so that, you know, the twomen can have some alone time together.
(01:31:58):
I don't think they're gonnabe getting much sleep though.
No,
it doesn't seem like that later.
And they do, they do address thefact that, that, um, it's been only a
short time since like David actuallymoved... like they only just met each
other and then they moved in together.
And
yeah, he's like, I, I know you thinkwe went COVID crazy with David moving
(01:32:20):
in so fast, but it just felt right.
They're like lesbians?
And as someone who moved, look, as a womanwho moved her girlfriend in during COVID.
Um, yeah, this, this hit me hard.
We weren't allowed to drivevery far, so it was just like,
eh, just come live with me.
It's fine.
(01:32:42):
Uh, we are a stereotype.
So, yeah.
So then, uh, Michael goes home.
He's working at his desk, eventhough it's like, it's gotta
be 1130 at pm at this point.
Yeah.
But David texts Michael to say thathe's just pulled into the garage.
So Michael starts the shower, puts out a laundry bag.
(01:33:04):
And then we cut to the Diazresidence.I forgot that we cut to Eddie
randomly.
Yeah.
We cut to the Diaz residencewhere it's so fucking late.
Chris should be asleep by now, but heand Eddie are hanging out on his bed
while Carla reads them a bedtime story.
Yeah.
(01:33:25):
'cause Chris is missing Carla.
And it is, it's a beautiful story.
I, it's called The Invisible String ofLove, and it's basically about love and
grief and um, connections to people.
And uh, Carla says that reading from thebook that "people who love each other
are always connected by an invisiblestring made of love." And I've just
(01:33:46):
got Taylor Swift playing in my head.
I was about to say.
Yeah.
How many of us is singingTaylor Swift right now?
Yeah.
Um, and Chris asks Carla if she hasan invisible string and she tells
him that he knows that she does, and it's connected right to him.
Even if Chris can't see it, Carlasays, well, you can see me anytime you
(01:34:11):
want on the computer because you andme, we are connected no matter what.
And then we go back to Michael'sapartment where David has walked up from
the parking garage still in his scrubs.
Not entirely sure that that's accurate, but I'm not just for the drama, it's fine.
(01:34:33):
And Michael is standing on the otherside of the kitchen island, uh, wearing
a mask, waiting for David to do his likepost COVID, uh, arrival routine, which
is he strips off, puts everything hewas wearing into the laundry bag, which
Michael, still wearing a mask, wearinggloves, then takes and tosses the entire
(01:34:54):
thing into the washing machine to beput through probably a very hot wash.
Um, and then he cooks dinner so that bythe time that David comes back out dinner
and wine is waiting for him on the table.
Yeah.
And it's so cute.
And Michael asked him how was the er?
And apparently it wasbetter than yesterday.
(01:35:15):
And he asked how dinner was at Athena'sand Michael says "She thinks you're
not getting enough sleep." And um,David gives like a, um, you know, like
a, I don't know how to describe itin a, in a, you know, audio format.
Um, he's like giving a Yeah, she would say, she would say
(01:35:36):
something like that, wouldn't she?
Yeah.
He doesn't look too impressed.
But yeah.
Maybe they're not gonna get much sleep.
But, um, the Diaz Diaz'sare getting enough sleep.
Because,
oh, that's so cute.
Carla's bedtime story
Poor Eddie, he's had a big day.
Carla's bedtime story hasnot only worked on Chris, but
it's worked on Eddie as well.
(01:35:57):
And he is curled up on thebed with Chris fast asleep.
It's so cute.
Carla continues to read and says, as theyslept, they started dreaming of all of
the invisible strings they had and all ofthe strings that their friends have and
their friends have until everyone in theworld was connected by invisible strings.
(01:36:19):
And she blows them a kissand says, goodnight boys.
Cute.
And it's very cute.
Yeah.
And then randomly, we're goingto someone who's not sleeping.
I'm assuming this mustbe the next morning.
'cause if they're doinglike online orientations.
Like in chronology, then this must belike 1:30 AM which just seems ridiculous.
(01:36:42):
May maybe she's doing it.
Um, like distance ed in Australia.
I dunno,
it must be the next day.
I hope not, because Nia is awake.
Yeah, it's gotta be the next morning.
True.
Yeah.
So we're at the, we're at the Wilson...
I don't know, kids wakeup at weird times, right?
Yeah.
Toddlers have weird sleepingschedules sometimes.
(01:37:05):
So we're at the, we're at the Wilsonresidence and um, Hen is getting ready
for, uh, orientation because she is,apparently she must have passed her MCATs.
She must have got into medicalschool and she is starting.
Um, and they make everyone's
so Karen like, she's like, "How do Ilook?" And Karen's like, "Like the sexy
(01:37:27):
doctor you are." And then Nia turnsup and it's like, can you guys stop?
Like there's a child present.
They're making this big deal aboutHen going off to orientation.
Nia gives Hen herstuffed unicorn for luck.
Oh, it's so cute.
"You borrow for luck."
It's so cute.
And like Hen's like, "I'm gonnaneed all the luck I can get and
(01:37:49):
a hug." And then she, you know, takes off for her long journey.
The two steps to her left tosit down at the kitchen table
because orientation is via zoom.
Like Karen hands her a bag
like I made you lunch, honey.
Like
It's weird.
(01:38:09):
It's hilarious.
So strange.
Cute.
Yeah.
They're just like, oh,what does your mommy do?
She's a sexy doctor.
It's like, what?
Karen?
Put it away.
Then we go to Buck's House.
This episode's another one ofthose ones that never ends.
Literally.
Yeah.
It's just more and more
(01:38:31):
we're once again onwhere Maddie is on Zoom.
'cause apparently thatis her life right now.
But she's not talking toChim through Zoom this time.
Um, she is talking to Albert.
So we've had a switcheroo.
She's, because Chim,
she's like, how, how do theuncles like living together?
And it's like, oh, that's so cute.
Uh, Albert's not really liking it.
(01:38:51):
'cause apparently Buck has a lot of rules.
Um, yeah, the rules being thatthey're gonna split chores evenly.
Um, and Chim's like, "yeahhate to break it to you.
Albert doesn't do chores." He'slike, "I contribute in other ways.
I make a great cup of coffee." AndMaddie's like, "I could attest to that."
Um, Buck just scolds her for, 'causeshe's not supposed to be drinking coffee.
(01:39:13):
But then, and Chimney, like Chimney hasnot only swapped sides of the camera,
he's swapped sides of the argument.
Because while,
yeah, he's like, no, no, no, no.
Sh sh sh
yeah.
He's like doing the, the, the cut itout gesture behind Maddie's back to,
uh, to tell Buck to stop the argument.
But, um, it's fine because Buckgets distracted by his phone.
(01:39:35):
Get like some,
yeah, his phone goes off,
his phone goes off.
He's like, "oh, I'm sorry. I've gotta go."And Maddie says, uh, as he is running up
the stairs to his bedroom, um, "Stop beingso secretive about your new lady friend.
I want to meet her." So he goes and hidesin his, you know, very open, no walls.
I'm sure that they can hear everythingthat's going on downstairs, locked
(01:39:58):
bedroom to have a FaceTime callwith a, um, a very much older woman.
Um, and I think for a secondwe're supposed to assume that he's
fallen back into like his olderhabits of picking up older women.
Um,
I just have to say, just quickly, the first time I watched this.
(01:40:19):
When Buck answered his tablet, becauseMaddie was like, stop being so secretive.
Um, the first time he answeredhis tablet, I half expected Eddie
to be on the other side of the
Oh yeah.
The brain rot is so real with you.
I don't think that'swhat the show intended.
I think they intended for youto think that this was his new
(01:40:40):
girlfriend, but, um, unless,
oh yeah.
But I was like, oh yeah, likeEddie is his new girlfriend.
It's fine.
But unless, um, Buck also has likesexy doctor fantasies, he, he calls
the woman, Dr. Copeland and immediatelystarts talking about their last session.
And we realize it's not his ladyfriend, it's his lady therapist.
(01:41:03):
'cause Buck has voluntarilystarted Zoom therapy.
Yeah.
And he's been thinking a lot aboutwhat she said about how he hides
his true feelings from others.
What does that mean, Buck?
That is, that is the weirdest.
The weirdest line.
What, what I relevance does that have toanything that happened in this episode?
(01:41:26):
Yeah, I, yeah,
yeah.
We'll, we'll come back to that later.
I like maybe because
Nope, it has no...
oh, I'm sorry I had to sneeze.
It has, maybe it doesn't make
I thought you were being dramatic.
Maybe because he was mad at Chimneyand just like pushed it down.
I don't know.
No, it doesn't make sense withinthe context of the episode at all.
(01:41:49):
No.
Like I that we'll have totalk about it later, but yeah,
it's just the weirdest line.
So while Buck is having therapyand I'm, I'm guessing Frank
didn't offer online telehealth,so he is going with Dr. Copeland.
Yeah, maybe not.
Maybe he didn't mesh with Frank enough.
(01:42:10):
I dunno.
Like, or maybe because Eddie'ssaying, Frankie's like, no,
I wanna see someone else
conflict of interest like his sister.
Yeah.
And his best friend is seeing thesame therapist is like, no, I can't
bitch about you about those two.
I need someone else anyway.
No.
So while he's doing that,we're gonna cut back to the,
uh, the Buckley Han residence.
So I guess if we're going by the namingconventions, it's the Madney residence.
(01:42:35):
Yeah.
There we go, the Madney residence
where, uh, zoom calls obviously ended,Maddie and Chim are cleaning up.
Maddie is heading to thekitchen with the coffee cups.
When she sort of stops and like makes anoise and like expression of discomfort
and pain crosses her face, Chimneyimmediately goes into panic mode.
(01:42:55):
Um, but it's nothing wrong.
It's just that, you know, Maddie'shad coffee and the like, mango
loves coffee and he's lettingMaddie know his appreciation
of the coffee and the caffeine.
Um.
But, but she's
baby's having some wiggles and kicks
or as Maddie says, babywants to say hello.
Yeah.
(01:43:16):
And I'm guessing this might bethe first time that, um, mango
is kicked in Chim's presence.
'cause he's like very sort of hesitantas he puts his hands on Maddie's belly
and says, "it's your dad. I'm here. Hi."Um, and then Mango ki kicks Chim back
(01:43:38):
and it's adorable.
Aw, it is adorable.
And then it's finally over.
That's the end.
Whew.
Um, so in terms of seasonopeners, it's pretty weak.
No.
I mean, nothing is gonna top the tsunami.
I didn't hate it at all,but it's very forgettable.
(01:44:00):
Like, I honestly forgotI was, I had to ask Bex.
I was like, what's the first episodeof season four, and she's like, the
mudslide, and I'm like, what mudslides
this particular episode, I, I didn'tenjoy as much as the first one.
I think.
Yeah.
Like it doesn't help that I reallydon't care about women giving birth.
Like I know that sounds horrible, but that's like, not why I watch
(01:44:23):
9-1-1 and it just keeps happeningand I'm just like, I don't care.
Like, yay, Chimney's, Chimney's helpinga woman that we'll never see again.
Like I'm the same, pregnancy andchildbirth is one of like my hard nos
when I'm reading books or consumingmedia, I, I don't want to read about that.
So yeah, like this is also why thisis not one of my favorite episodes.
(01:44:44):
Um, and it's just, it puts toomuch focus on other characters.
Like none of the main charactersare ever in any danger.
We have all this backstory about randomcharacters that we'll never see again.
Like Sylvia's in danger and it'sjust like, okay, I don't care.
Well, I think Athena is like in dangeradjacent 'cause she's in the house.
(01:45:06):
Yeah.
Like I worry the, the like, mostexciting part of the episode is when
the helicopter like goes away fromthem and it's just like, oh shit,
how are they gonna get the attention?
And then they find that andI'm just like, yeah, go Athena.
Smart thinking.
Um, but that's 'cause I also like, youknow, like the shipwreck and like lost in
forest, like airplane crash stories wherethe helicopter can't see them and they
(01:45:28):
like get a mirror to off them something.
But you are correct that like thelast couple of season openers, like
we had the earthquake where you hadHen trapped underneath the rubble.
You had the tsunami where you had buckand Chris, like right in the middle of it.
It's, the episodes are more impactfuland more um, or more interesting
(01:45:50):
as the audience when it is actuallyone of the 118 who is in danger.
Yeah.
Like Chim's in danger of gettinglike splat in the face by a fetus.
Oh.
But that's about it.
But even in, even in the first part,if we are saying this is a two part,
or even in the first part, nobody was, what did they do in the first part?
(01:46:14):
Shit.
What did they do in the first part?
They just went around and
Oh, the bus
rescued people.
Like they did the bus thing.
Oh, they, yeah, the bus.
And then they found the, thewoman in the, in the drain.
Bobby was in danger.
Bobby was in danger in the first part.
But did, uh, so there was thatmoment where it was just like, oh,
oh, like that, like that one second.
The explosion.
Yeah, that's it.
Like, I don't know.
One second.
Yeah, you're right.
(01:46:34):
There was no real danger for him.
But yeah, like the, like there was nopoint where Chim was like in the house
and the, like the house was startingto run out of oxygen or like it started
to cave in or anything like that.
Like he was just fine.
Yeah.
Nobody was,
The stakes were low.
The stakes were very low.
Stakes, were very low.
So yeah.
In terms of impactful season openers?
(01:46:56):
Not super impactful.
Um, possibly COVID.
Yeah, I've could have impacted that.
Yeah.
Maybe.
I dunno, it's just the story itself maybe.
Yeah.
But they might not have been like, you know, with the tsunami, they
all went to Mexico to film that.
Yeah.
Like it was a huge deal.
They didn't have thatopportunity with this.
(01:47:19):
But even the earthquakeepisode where you had Yeah.
You know, Buck and Eddie climbingup through the building and you had
a Hen trapped underneath that, thatwasn't in Mexico, as far as I'm aware.
Um, yeah, true.
It's possible to do an emergencywithout, you know, international flights.
(01:47:39):
Although it's not reallyinternational, is it?
They just had to hop over the border.
Yeah.
You can, can just do with atrain set in your backyard.
It's fine.
It, um, it just focused too much oncharacters that I didn't care about.
And we are never gonna see again.
Like the first one had a lotfocused on the bike rider lady.
Yeah.
And like, it would've been coolif one of them went down to rescue
(01:47:59):
her and it caved in on them andthey had to find it together.
Like they could have still given herher whole like freeing herself thing
if one of the 118 was like trapped.
And they were like, oh my God,you've gotta go break the lock.
And she's like, I can't do it.
And they're like, no, I'm here with you.
Yeah.
But instead she was just on her own.
And I'm like, I don't care.
Hmm.
No, I understand what you're saying.
(01:48:20):
Yeah.
Fair enough.
And like compared to the restof season four, it's very weak.
Well,
I have high hopes for therest of the season now.
After you've said this.
Well, I, I don't think the next one'sgoing to, um, impress you much just by
looking at what's happening next week,
What's happening next week?
Where we are told by the promo.
(01:48:43):
So I'm not even sure how muchof this is gonna be correct.
Um.
The 118 race to save a man under siegeby his high-tech smart home and a
yoga teacher who has lost her vision.
Athena hunts down a bank robberdisguised by COVID protocols.
Oh God.
That's right.
Um, meanwhile, Buck confides inMaddie doesn't say about what?
(01:49:06):
Um, Hen clashes with her antagonizingmedi Oh, for fuck's sake.
We're up to this storyline.
Okay.
Hen clashes with her antagonizingmedical school lab partner, and despite
this only being a ten second part ofthe episode, the members of the 118
crew prep for an out of state mission.
Oh, are we up to
(01:49:27):
We are up to the Lone star.
Um, we're up to the,the Lone Star crossover.
Yeah.
Okay.
Um, the first bit, that man under seige byhigh tech smart home is so funny though.
I, yeah.
Um, triggers for next week, um,include medical training, which
(01:49:48):
is going to involve cadavers, um,discussions of cancer, discussion of
bad parents, people fainting, whichI think is in connection with the
cadavers, if I remember correctly.
Um, discussions of the foster caresystem, stalking and, worms in eyes.
(01:50:11):
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah.
Also trigger warning for, um,for crossover episodes because
look, they're horrifying.
Well, I mean, it's, it's just like a,it's just like a, like a ten second
mention at the end of the episode.
And like we've said before, it doesn'tcrossover within the OG 9-1-1 universe,
(01:50:32):
so you could possibly just skip overthe fact that there's a crossover.
But because we love your, we'regonna sit through the crossover, um,
trigger warning for mentions of Texas
trigger warnings for Beck's.
Losing her fucking mind at Owen Strand.
I know Alice is gonna have to justexplain who everybody is in the episode.
(01:50:54):
It's gonna be so much fun.
But that's, that's theepisode after this one.
It's fine.
Yes.
We've still got this one.
And then we're go.
Yeah.
So next week, next week is going tobe episode three, "Future Tense".
Then we will take a quickroad trip down to Texas.
Um, and then we will comeback for episode four,
Right.
Yeah.
Um, tell us what you thoughtabout the season four opener.
(01:51:17):
Yeah.
Um, did you like it more than I did?
I don't think that would be hardbased on what you've already told us.
Like I didn't hate it.
It just like, it wasn't highstakes and so it was like, it
not rate the second it matter.
It would have worked as anormal midseason episode, but
yeah, if it was just in theseason, I would've really liked it.
(01:51:38):
But, for a season opener wherethey have set the standards so high
with the earthquake episode andthen with the tsunami episode, they
were unable to meet the standardthat they have set for themselves.
Yeah.
They've shot themselvesin the foot here really.
Oh, that would've beenmore interesting, I think.
All right.
