Are you brave enough to set a goal that scares you?

Imagine a goal so intimidating yet enticing that it fuels your daily actions, habits, and discipline. That's what a BHAG, or Big, Hairy, Audacious Goal, is all about. Dive into the adrenaline and excitement of such challenges! We're sharing our favorite five BHAGs to inspire you to leap into faith.

Let's explore the muddy fun of a mud run or the grit it takes to conquer the Tough Mudder, an 18-20-kilometer obstacle course designed to test your mental strength and physical stamina. Embrace the blend of fitness and philanthropy by participating in a fitness event for charity. This episode invites you to rally around your ambitious vision, declare your commitment, hold yourself accountable, and ultimately win.

Speaker 1 (00:02):
Get big, hairy, audacious goal Now.
If you aren't ready to makethis commitment to yourself,
stop listening to them.
But if you are, listen on,friend.
We all need goals.
I don't believe they define whowe are, but they certainly say
a lot about our character.
Do you fumble through life andits challenges or do you take
control of your opportunitiesand set your sights on things

(00:24):
outside of your grasp?
I believe you to be the latter.
It's that one thing you'vealways wanted to do.
You know that one thing thatyou always tell yourself one day
, I'm going to go do that.
And what's holding you backfrom going for it?
It's time to get going.
I urge my clients to get a bagBHAG, which stands for big,

(00:49):
hairy, audacious goal.
This is a term popularized byJim Collins and Jerry Porras in
their bestselling book Still toLast Successful Habits of
Visionary Companies.
They describe a bag as a hugeand powerful vision that an
entire organization can rallyaround.
I believe bags aren't just forcompanies, but for individuals

(01:10):
too.
That's why I urge my clients toset their sights on a huge
challenge at least three to sixmonths up.
Committing yourself to thiskind of goal can work as your
why in the short term.
Doing this is awesome for anumber of reasons.
Number one practicality.
It keeps you focused on thedaily habits you need to adopt
and the steps you need to taketo make sure you arrive at your

(01:32):
destination.
Number two accountability.
Declaring your commitment isgreat for helping you stick to
it.
And number three discipline.
In challenging situations, wehave two choices Either give up
or push through and conquer.
You like to win.
I know you do.
It's part of being human.

(01:53):
Over the years, I've used thefollowing bags to help my
clients challenge themselves.
Here's my list of five big, hairy, audacious goals you want
to own?
Number one my first 5K.
Now, I'm not a huge fan ofrunning Heck, my nickname is
Moose because I run like one butI do get out for a few runs

(02:14):
each year.
Color runs are a great place tostart.
Why not check one out?
How about a 5K mud run?
Number two take the fun of a 5Kto a team obstacle course and
the mud Mud runs have becomewidely popular.
A great example is the SpartanRace.
Just check out Spartancom.
You might also want to checkout my blog, diamondwellcom, for
some cool videos and articleson mud runs to see if this is

(02:37):
something to put your fitnessgoal list this year.
Do it on your own or, betteryet, recruit a few friends and
get after it together.
Number three a mini-traff one.
Hey, I'm not saying you shouldregister for an iron, but I know
if you were to commit toparticipating in a mini-try six
months out, you'd be ready byrace day.
It consists of a 750 meter, sothat's a half mile swim, 20k, 12

(03:01):
mile bike ride, as well as a 5Kor 3.1 mile run.
Now, don't be intimidated, itwill be over before you know it,
and six months is plenty oftime to prep for this type of
event, no matter your fitnesslevel.
Number four a great cause.
What better motivation than tocommit to a fitness event for
charity?
I've been involved with theGrind for Kids charity for four

(03:23):
years actually going on five, almost six soon which gets my
team hiking the Grouse Grind, and this is a 2.9 kilometer
trail straight up GrouseMountain in my home city of
Vancouver, and we do this allsummer.
During the summer season, theevent raises money for the
British Columbia Chinlun'shospital Awesomeness.
What local charities can yousupport by participating in a

(03:47):
fitness event?
Maybe you could make a fitnessevent around a charity that you
love and work with them tocreate something really cool.
Check one out.
You know, literally commit andfeel even more awesome for
getting healthy and fit.
And number five, and this one'sclose to my heart Tough Mudder.
This one is near and dear.
Tough Mudder is a challenging18 to 20 kilometer, so that's

(04:09):
about 10 to 12 miles.
Four obstacle course designedto test mental strength and
physical grit.
Having the opportunity to leada team our team was called I
Want my Mudder.
Over the last few years, I canhonestly say that it's a life
changing event.
No teammate is ever left behind.
So don't wait.
What's your big, hairy, audacious fitness goal going to
