Louie "Ski" Carr, the dynamic dancer who rose to fame on the iconic television show Soul Train, appears on The Able Show.
Carr is a cultural celebrity in the dance world. His signature style has influenced generations, earning him his well-known nickname, undeniable charisma, and dedication to the art of movement.
Hailing from Inglewood, CA, Carr is a classically trained actor who launched his career on the most influential television program in history, Soul Train. As one of Soul Train's standout performers, Carr helped shape the evolution of dance in pop culture, bringing energy and innovation to the show's iconic dance line.
Beyond his time on Soul Train, he has built a remarkable career as an actor, choreographer, and mentor, leaving an enduring impact on the entertainment industry. After honing his craft for seven years, Carr secured a diverse array of film and TV roles.
On The Able Show, Carr reflects on his journey from Soul Train to Hollywood, sharing behind-the-scenes stories, career highlights, and insights into the ever-evolving dance world. His appearance promises an inspiring and nostalgic experience for fans and aspiring artists. With his signature energy and passion, Carr will bring to life the iconic words of the late Don Cornelius, "Love, Peace, and Soul!"
Establishing an astounding fan base, including the general public and celebrity admirers, Carr went on to tour with multi-platinum R&B pop sensation New Edition as a dancer and mentor to the then-teen group. His passion for stage and film performance led Carr to seek new expressions for his powerful stage presence. After taking a day to "pray on it," his answers led him back to school, where he took every theater class offered at El Camino College.
Discovering that the world outside Inglewood and in theater lay only one fine playwright away, Carr continued training with world-renowned acting coach Milton Katselas, honing his craft for nearly seven years before Katselas' passing. Carr has played such wonderfully diverse roles as Walter Lee in A Raisin in the Sun, Crooks in Of Mice and Men, Big Julie in Guys and Dolls, Donald in You Can't Take It With You, and Cleante in Tartuffe.
Falling in love with the classics soon challenged Carr to endeavor Shakespeare, and he has enjoyed playing some of the bard's most significant roles. He has been seen as Theseus, in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Don John, in Much Ado About Nothing, and Petruchio, in Taming of the Shrew, all of which ultimately led to his playing the title role in Othello, a part Carr was made for.
Carr is also proud of starring in the award-winning, original production of Champion, written by Dave Paladino and directed by Tommy Hicks. This story, about a young man raised as a "dark Italian," only to discover his biological father is a dissolute and fading black man (played by Carr), is based on the true-life events of Mr. Paladino and was first featured on NPR's Award Winning Show. Champion opened to all-around rare views in Los Angeles, winning numerous prestigious awards, before touring North Carolina, Miami, Sacramento, and most notably, a celebrated off-Broadway production in New York.
Carr has added television and film to his credits, including appearing in some of the top shows of our time, including Chicago Fire, Blue Bloods, Agents of Sheild, Arrested Development, CSI: Miami, NCIS: Los Angeles, Two And A Half Men, Joker Rising, Take Out Girl, Belly 2: Millionaire Boyz Club, and Faster.
Since then, Carr has focused on film and television work; fans can find him in his role as Senor Cruz on the hit television series The Family Business.
