(00:00):
Welcome to the alley D show.
I'm going to start today'sepisode off with a question.
And I want you to really thinkabout this question when I ask
it.
But.
Okay.
Are there times where you feellike your momentum is stopped
because you are trying to chaseperfection?
(00:21):
So, what I mean by this is somany times as entrepreneurs, as
business owners, store owners, brand owners, all the things.
We can really slow down ourprogress, our movement forward.
Because we.
Are waiting for perfection.
The perfect time to.
(00:41):
Launch.
The perfect time to createcontent.
The perfect time to send out theemail.
The perfect time to buy moreproduct, whatever the case may
be.
And what happens is when we'rewaiting for perfection to come
along and.
You know, strike.
We ended up waiting forever.
(01:01):
Because 99% of the time, wedon't reach perfection.
So, what I wanna talk abouttoday is how is perfection
showing up in your life andwhere is it slowing down the
growth of your business?
And I'm going to hit you withthis quote.
From, I'm going to quote myself,I guess we're saying here.
But I was thinking about thislast week and I was thinking
(01:23):
about perfection and how I cansee it seep into so many clients
and so many students, and justso many store owner, friends
that I have in general and howeven in conversations in daily
life when it's like, okay, I,yeah, I just, I hope it's going
to be perfect.
And I just want to go wait, stop.
We don't, we don't need to shootfor perfection.
(01:44):
So I want to, let me tell youthe quote first, and then I'll
tell you how we need to shiftour mindset towards what I'm
talking about in this quote.
So when I kind of came up with,as I was listening, listening
and thinking about this is don'truin greatness.
By trying to be perfect.
Because our ultimate goal, Ibelieve is greatness.
(02:05):
It's to be great.
It's not to be perfect.
It's not perfection because thatis unattainable.
And that is almost impossible.
So how can we show up everysingle day?
And work our butts off.
And try to get perfection.
And we don't reach it.
What's going to happen is we'regoing to feel really burnt out.
(02:27):
We're going to feel like, man, Ijust, I want everything to be
perfect.
I'm showing up every single day.
I'm I'm posting.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
Perfect.
But, but the reality is, is wecan't really get to perfection.
But what we can strive for isgreatness.
So again, don't ruin greatnessby trying to be perfect.
(02:49):
When you try to be perfect, youruin your momentum.
We get so caught up trying tomake every little thing flawless
that we stop moving forwardaltogether because sometimes we
just get paralyzed.
Not knowing what to do.
Because we're never reallyactually reaching quote unquote
perfection.
(03:09):
Okay.
It's the ultimate progressblocker.
Okay.
So perfection is the ultimateprogress blockers.
So I don't want you to get stuckin that mindset.
So here's the truth.
Greatness.
Doesn't come from being perfect.
You can create greatness withoutever.
Being perfect.
(03:30):
You know what, you know, how youdo create greatness though.
It's from showing up.
Taking messy action.
Learning as you go.
So we can't put so much pressureon ourselves.
Two.
I try to be perfect all thetime.
Do you feel like this?
Do you feel like, gosh, I amthat person where I just feel
like I'm always like trying totweak it, make it a little bit
(03:53):
better, make it a little bitbetter instead of just going,
like, let me just put this outthere and see what happens.
Messy action.
Right?
This is taking messy action.
Can we just put this out there?
See what happens.
There'll be able to tell fromputting whatever this thing is
that you're trying to create andbe perfect.
Just by putting it out there, you're going to get feedback.
(04:13):
That's going to make it 10 timesbetter.
So the next time you do thething.
It's going to be great.
perfect is not a goal.
I don't ever try to make thingsperfect in my business.
I've certainly not created.
This million dollar companybased on trying to be perfect.
I've actually definitely mademore mistakes.
(04:35):
Than I have wins.
But that's what, when you moveforward without perfection,
that's what you get to receive.
You get to receive feedback, youget to receive more knowledge.
You get to receive anotherchance.
At creating or launching orwhatever it is you're doing,
doing it again.
(04:56):
Because if you think, okay, thisis perfect.
And you go and it fails.
Like where are you supposed togo from?
Perfect.
Right.
There's nowhere else to go.
It's not attainable.
So there's always some kind ofimperfection.
And what I want you to know isimperfection is.
Perfectly.
Okay.
(05:17):
All right.
So one time I'm allowing you touse the word.
Perfect.
Imperfection.
It's fine.
Imperfection is perfectly okay.
And as long as you're continuingto move forward and learning
from things that may be werequote, unquote imperfect.
This is going to allow you tocreate greatness.
(05:39):
So don't ruin your greatness bytrying to be perfect.
If you're holding yourself backfrom making a big move.
Building your mega businessbecause you're not ready or it's
not perfect.
I want you to remind yourself ofthis one thing.
Progress beats perfection.
(06:00):
Every single time.
There's a lot of, like, if youhad a highlighter and you could
highlight the words coming outof my mouth, I would want you to
highlight these few things.
Okay.
Progress beats perfection everytime.
Because progress.
Is actually how you buildgreatness.
(06:21):
You put it out there.
You take risks, you make moves.
You take chances.
This is what being anentrepreneur is all about.
It's not about perfection.
And if, if you're aperfectionist.
You gotta let go of some of thatcontrol.
Because that's not going to getyou anywhere in your business.
In fact, perfectionism.
(06:41):
Blocks your progress, right?
It's what I said in thebeginning.
Perfection is the ultimateprogress blocker.
And progress beats perfectionevery single time.
So it's like a equals B and Bequals C, then a equals C.
Right.
So what I want you to doinstead.
Today.
(07:01):
I want you to just kind ofnotice you guys know.
I love giving you my littleactions today.
I want you to notice where areyou hindering your progress by
wanting things to be quoteunquote.
Perfect.
Instead of just hitting thepublish button instead of just
recording the content, insteadof just not having the perfect
background or not having theperfect hook or not having the
(07:23):
perfect whatever, fill in theblank.
Where are you not even doing thething?
We're publishing the content orsending the email.
Or being bold or authentic orunique, or where are you not
doing that?
Because you don't quite thinkit's perfect yet.
So this is your full permissionin today's podcast.
(07:45):
Pay attention to that.
And then what I want you to doinstead of aiming for
perfection, I want you to aimfor great.
And it great.
Is all depends on where you arein your journey.
So great for me is going to bedifferent than great for you.
It's all incremental.
(08:06):
So what I want you to look atyour own business and go.
I want to aim for greatness forme.
And every day, show up aimingfor greatness and not
perfection.
And watch how fricking far youcan go.
Okay, so promise me this on thisbeautiful day.
You're letting go of pain.
(08:27):
Perfect.
You're understanding thatprogress.
Is better than perfection.
And you're understanding thatyou are not going to ruin your
greatness by trying to beperfect.
Okay.
Having an amazing day.
We'll talk tomorrow.
