Language and content thatisn't appropriate for some.
Listener discretion is advised.
Welcome, nothingers, to theAll About Nothing podcast.
This is episode number 275.
I am Barrett Gruber, joined byMr. Zach King over here, as well
as Brock from the Myrtle BeachBoardwalk Comic Con.
(02:27):
Totally had a brain fart.
It's, it's a lot to remember.
Brock, please don't.
But it's not, it's not MyrtleBeach Boardwalk Comic Con.
It's just Boardwalk Comic Con.
It's actually easier becauseit's only three words.
All right, Boardwalk Comic Con.
I'm going to write that down.
All right.
All right, so look, real quickbefore we get into the episode and
we talk about why Brock's herewith us, just want to let everybody
(02:49):
know the total abortion banprotest is going to be happening
on October 1st.
That's this Wednesday at9:30am People are being asked to
show up at the gressetbuilding, room 130.
It's where the Senate convenesfor their, for their, their stuff.
So Wednesday, October 1st,total abortion ban.
Everybody that can show up,please do.
(03:10):
They are.
They are looking for people tospeak on behalf of.
Well, both sides, but mostlywe're looking for people to speak
on behalf of shutting thisbill down.
So if you can do that verymuch, appreciate it.
Again, 9:30am Room 130 of theGresit Building.
It's right behind the StateHouse here in South Carolina.
So just want to make sureeverybody knows about that.
(03:30):
Also, the second half of thisepisode is going to be me with Mr.
O' Sean McClendon, who, who ofcourse is the, the, the, the brains.
I say the brains, but thecreative physical part of the Casey
West Columbia JC's hall of Horrors.
We had an interview.
The force.
(03:51):
Yeah, he is.
He and I walk through with thelights on the, the entire haunting
attraction and he gives us abreakdown of, of how the characters
and the story all work together.
It was a really fun event andglad that I was able to do that with
him.
So that'll be the second halfof that episode.
And having got a sneak peek of it.
(04:14):
Truly fucking scary.
Well, wooden walking the, thehaunt with the lights on and getting
kind of the in depth about thecharacters and who's going to jump
out and all that stuff.
Would that kind of spoil it alittle bit?
I mean, wouldn't you be like.
Or do they mix it up?
Do they have different pathsor like that would just seem like
(04:35):
a behind the scenes would belike kind of like spoiler.
You sound like a communist.
So they have a load.
They have a.
They have a load of actors andthings like that.
So they do switch things up asthey go through the.
Even just going through the night.
So you could go through thehaunt two times in.
No, in two different nightsand it would be different.
(04:57):
And then they have the pitchBlack Knight.
Nope.
No, that.
Well, they can have that allthey want.
Brock's gonna go through theHaunt zero times.
I do not pay.
I do nothing podcast.
What if.
What if we put a.
What if we put a microphone onyou and the three of us walk through?
Yeah.
Do you know he's considering it.
(05:17):
Well, are you gonna hitdaughter levels of screaming octaves?
Is that what's going to happen?
Okay.
Just your proposal, Barrett.
And by the way, you're anasshole for doing this.
Just proposing this haselevated my blood pressure 20 points.
That's like watching aFacebook video, somebody jumping
off a building.
(05:37):
And the POV, like the.
The.
The GoPro, they're jumping offlike that.
Or.
Or watching somebody ride aroller coaster in the front.
And like, I just.
That just.
That just drives me.
Oof.
Real, real quick.
I might have.
I might have an episode.
Real quick.
We've got the direct.
The.
The Secretary of Health andHuman Services on standby.
(05:58):
Real quick.
RFK Jr. What do you thinkabout his elevated heartbeat?
All right.
He's.
He's suggesting less Tylenol.
Less Tylenol.
Okay, I'm gonna need some.

My.
My heart rate's still coming down.
Would you like some.
I can give you some music orsomething like that.
We can.
We can.
No.
(07:02):
Little meditation.
Little.
No.
In about.
In about 45 minutes, I'll.
I'll jump into Smackdown.
So that'll.
That'll get me fired up forall the good reasons.
Okay.
Not having me run around likea little at a Hall of horrors or
whatever.
He would not.
I'm telling you, that's.
It's a hell of a thought, butit's probably not a good idea for
me.
(07:23):
Well, I had an idea.
Before we jump into theboardwalk, can we revisit 2025 Soda
City?
If you want, we can.
We could.
We could do.
We could do a.
We could do a short recap.
Yeah, sure, sure.
I absolutely loved all the guests.
One of my favorites being John Heater.
(07:43):
That dude had us laughing, like, from take one.
Yeah, I. I knew John wasfunny, but how funny he was was just
the best.
Do you.
Yeah.
What's.
Do you think he'sintentionally funny?
Because it feels like it comesoff so naturally that, you know,
he's just.
He's just so cynical and soit's, it's, it's.
(08:07):
It's almost like he'sdisconnected so much.
But everything he says is areflection of, like, what he's observed,
and it's.
It.
And, and, and for a second, itmakes you think, like, you have to
go.
Like, he, he said, you know, you asked him what he thought of
Columbia.
He was like, I like their sportswear.
Fucking just hilarious.
He made me so quick with that.
I was like, fuck.
(08:30):
Got it.
What were you saying, Brock?
I was.
I was gonna say that you.
If you talk to him or have theopportunity to meet him, you would
think that he is doing a bitor being in character.
But I think that's just how he talks.
I think that's his normal mannerisms.
And, you know, obviouslyeverybody knows him from Napoleon
(08:50):
Dynamite.
Outside of that, I think he had.
There's a couple other movieshe was in that I have not watched.
He had a brand new one withBilly Zane where he's Marlon Brandon.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
They were talking aboutbuilding a hotel on.
On a beach or something.
Yeah.
Little clip for that.
And it took me a minute tolike, oh, that's.
That's John.
But yeah, he's.
You would think that he's like either.
(09:10):
Either in character orsomething like that, and he's not.
I think he's just.
Just kind of.
Just kind of weird like that.
Like quirky, but it's so.
Yeah, quirky.
I, I don't.
He doesn't strike me as weird, but quirky, not weird in a bad way.
It's just like, you know, it'sjust kind of like you're like, what
are you doing?
He's like, he's just, justtalking normal or whatever, you know.
Like I drove him back to theairport at like 5:30 in the morning,
(09:33):
Monday morning and he was justChatty Patty the whole way there.
And you're just talking to himand not about anything in particular,
just about stuff in general.
Yeah.
And he's just, it's just like,wow, I'm talking to like a grown
up version of Napoleon.
Yeah.
Well, I'll tell you a funnystory, which I don't believe I shared
on a previous episode.
My wife loves him and all hislike, all of his movies and like.
(09:58):
Are we talking Hall Pass loves him?
No, not that, not to that level.
He's still Napoleon Dynamite.
Sorry John, but he, he, he, wehad the interview and I said my,
my wife really like loves yourmovies and she wants to meet you,
but she is just a coward andwon't do it.
(10:20):
I tried to bring her over acouple times and he's like, oh well
she wants to meet me, that's fine.
And I was like, yeah, she'sjust scared so you know, go, be gentle.
And he goes, I'd love to scareyour wife.
Bring her over.
I brought her over.
And he instantly goes, this isyour wife.
She's not as near as ugly asyou said she was.
Oh, she's just.
(10:44):
Instantly, just had the jokesand you just see him doing that like
that kind of just interactionwith every guest that came to his
table.
It was, he was, gave them anexperience on top of, you know, autographs.
And all that I have.
So, so I, I, I talked about itin, in our, in our episode after
the, the con where we, we, wedid the, I think I talked about with
(11:07):
some other people or maybesome other podcasts that I did.
But one of the things that Igenuinely enjoyed was also getting
to, to talk to Randy Quaid andyou know, like, like I, I, over the
course of, of Saturday Iprobably spent a good hour, maybe
an hour and a half like at histable when he didn't have anybody
(11:28):
around just talking to himabout like movies and people he'd
worked with and, and like whatwere some of his favorite, you know,
favorite projects that heworked on and the people that he
worked with and things like that.
Genuinely, he and his entirelike entourage were just lovely.
Like they were very friendly.
It was a very, I had genuinelya good time talking to him.
(11:50):
And then, and then I see avideo of him driving in his car on,
on, on, I guess his socialMedia basically bitching about how
Jimmy Kimmel never should havecome back on television and that
he's obscene and it's absurdthat they would give in and let Jimmy
Kimmel come back and all thisother stuff.
(12:10):
And as the camera pans down, which I can only assume his wife
was in control of, when thecamera pans down towards the floorboard
of the truck he's driving, there's an open box of milk bone
dog food.
And in my head, I'm thinking,Randy Quaid's eating milk bone dog
food.
This might be.
(12:31):
This might legitimately bewhat's happening.
So.
But genuinely very sweet man.
I enjoyed.
I enjoy.
I enjoyed the time that I got.
To speak with him.
It was.
It was very.
He probably would say it's areal nice surprise, Clark.
But yeah, I.
20, 25.
Do we.
Do we have any totals on.
On participation, liketickets, I guess, people that showed
(12:54):
up?
I mean, we're.
We.
We felt like there was aslight pullback from the prior year
as far as attendance.
Well, I know.
I mean, I know, but thatdoesn't necessarily mean that it
isn't the case.
The, you know, the show was successful.
(13:15):
We had a good time, everybody.
I didn't.
Haven't gotten any negative feedback.
Well, I take that back.
There was one little bit ofnegative feedback that.
That we can remedy moving forward.
Some people want us to producecosplay contest trophies for the
winners.
Okay, message received.
We can do that.
In fact, we'll get.
I know a really nice, nicelady that does custom trophy work,
(13:38):
does a really good job.
So next year we will havetrophies for all the winners.
I don't know if there will befirst, second, and third.
I don't.
I'll have to figure out howthey did it.
But nevertheless, there willbe trophies next year in addition
to prizes and whatever else wecan wrangle up.
So other than that, I think, you know, the, you know, we always.
(14:02):
We always talk to our vendors,we always talk to our artists.
We always talk to our guests.
I think every guest from thequades to like John and Katie and
all the voice actors, they allhad a lovely time, was the feedback
that I got.
They all said that everybody'svery, very nice.
They liked.
A lot of people commented onthe fact that there's greenery in
(14:24):
and around the town.
Yeah, they're not used to that.
Yeah, yeah.
A lot of them are from Texas,so they.
Did they talk about the factthat they're freeze downtown and
a lot of green.
One of those things.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So the Weather.
The weather actually turnedout to be very nice.
It was a great weekend for the event.
I didn't hear anybody complainabout parking this year.
(14:45):
That's usually one of thecomplaints that we get.
Didn't hear about that at all.
Overall, you know, the event was.
The event was.
It was good.
It was really good.
We're looking forward to year 11.
Yeah, we.
I love the pinball setup, bythe way too.
They had the.
Oh, yeah, that was really good.
It was the first time I got togo down there since the first time
that we did it.
And yeah, seeing like the Dand D pinball set up and all of.
(15:11):
Yeah, we, we have to give.
I don't know if you've got agong or a cymbal or some sort of
soundboard image or not image.
Soundboard noise.
There you go.
Yeah, the bell.
We have to give that to MarcoPinball because Emoto Marco not related
to the company.
Kim and the crew out therejust did an amazing, amazing job
(15:32):
with that setup this year.
I mean, they killed it.
They absolutely killed it.
And that's.
And that's been one of thethings that we continue to work on.
We, we constantly want to finda way to add value to the attendees
that are coming.
And you know, I think thisyear, since it's either.
I think this is the third yearthat we've kind of had that and the
setup has kind of gotten alittle bit better every year.
(15:54):
People are starting to realizethat there's more to the event.
And we tell them explore thewhole building, but I don't think
they get it.
Like, come down, do what they got.
To take the bar Uber U turn.
Yeah.
You know, they come down theescalator that works and is non sabotaged.
And they're supposed to hookaround, hook around and go back behind
(16:15):
it and keep going.
Right.
So.
But you know, once you getdown the moving escalator, it's not
just an exhibit hall.
The exhibit hall is great.
You've got vendors, you got,you got, you know, you got artists.
They're all unique.
But, you know, walk backbehind the working escalator and
go back down the hall becausethen, you know, we've got our video
game.
We got, we got all the vintageretro video games.
(16:36):
You got all the pinball.
We had pinball on the hole.
They had the tournament in thehallway so you could actually watch
people compete.
Like, it was just, it was justa really good setup and everything
just kind of worked and it flowed.
And I think people are finallystarting to get the idea that there's
more to the show than meetinga celebrity or going and buying a
fake sword or a comic book.
(16:56):
Yeah, I'll tell you this, too.
Sorry, Barrett, let me justinterrupt real quick.
These Gen Z kids, they don'tget the pinball etiquette.
All right?
You put your quarters on the machine.
When their turn's done, it'syour turn.
Yeah, but there are noquarters at my show.
It's all free Play.
I know.
50 cents on a principal.
(17:19):
Well, I, Maybe they can call dibs.
I don't, I don't know if.
Does that still apply?
Dibs.
He said, skibidi your mama andthen ran away.
I don't know.
This guy's not full of Riz.
I got no Riz.
You're right.
I got no Riz.
One of the.
But I was going to speak, soone of the things that I was going
to say, you know, the factthat there was concern about the
(17:39):
escalator failing because ofthe number of people that were, Were
coming in and going down.
I, I, I asked one of the, oneof the Commence convention, you know,
staff, I said, has this everbeen an issue before?
Never once.
So I feel like that speaks atleast to, you know, a, the potential
(18:00):
size of the audience and theparticipation that was there.
Well, well, I can tell youthat when we first opened up, I have
never seen so few people come in.
Really.
It was, it was, it was a, itwas a, it was a crawl.
Yes.
And we just, we had to make acouple of changes.
And it was just, I mean, theline was, the line was.
(18:20):
If I, I think I poked my headout there once or so, it was down
to the Colonial Life arena andthen looping back up.
So there probably was 2500maybe people or 3000 people in line.
Yeah.
And it was like that for along time till we decided, okay,
we got to figure out something.
And then we, then we startedmoving that line.
So, you know, I don't.
(18:43):
Last year we didn't have thisproblem, and I feel like there was
in 24.
I felt like there was morepeople over the course of two days.
But, you know, I definitelythink that this, this Saturday of
this year was, Certainly was at.
It was as busy, if not busierthan last year's Saturday.
So that's a good thing.
We just gotta, we gotta figureout, we gotta get them, figure out
a way to get people to come tothe event after they leave church,
(19:07):
because that's what John toldthem, to go to church and then come
to the event.
So we gotta figure out a way to.
To.
To transition them from churchpop culture.
We could.
We could maybe.
Maybe we could do a rapturesign up.
Listen, something like that.
They show up, they get rapture.
They get added to theimmediate rapture list or something
like that.
I don't know.
Yeah.
(19:27):
All right, let's talk aboutBoardwalk Comic Con, because that
is taking place this weekendin Myrtle Beach.
You have two of my favoritepeople there, too.
October 3rd and 4th.
Who are your two favorite people?
Fourth and fifth.
Fourth and fifth.
I'm sorry, what did I say?
Third and fourth.
Yeah.
Fourth and fifth.
Fourth.
Matthew Wood.
Matthew Wood.
And our boy, Sam Witwer.
(19:49):
Yeah, Sam Witwer is going tobe there.
I'll tell you this.
When I was looking at theguest list, Amanda Detmer is one
of those ones that I have, youknow, because she was in Drop Dead
Gorgeous.
That feels very.
She's so rooted in nostalgia,at least for our age group is.
Well, you were really old, Barrett.
Sorry.
(20:10):
Fun fact.
Fun fact.
This is her very first event.
No shit.
No way.
That's.
That's kind of crazy.
I.
Very first event.
I would have had to havebelieved that she would have done
stuff because.
I mean, well, I mean, she diedin Final Destination, so we.
We've.
We've brought her back.
(20:30):
So.
Look, she's still good.
Yeah, we dug her up.
Look at us.
Look at us playing along.
Well, you know what?
I'm gonna.
I'm gonna go ahead and let hersign the first boob when I get there.
I am.
There you go.
But, yeah, so Amanda Dettmeris gonna be there.
Got Sam Witwer.
We got the.
(20:51):
Well, the Sam Witwer andMatthew Wood combination, because
I'm assuming they don't.
They don't travel separately.
Like, they must only do stuff together.
They have the same rep, sothey probably get kind of pitched
together.
That's fair.
That's fair.
Sam said in the video, Brock, that he would break his NDAs, and
(21:11):
I'm.
Holding it to it.
He did.
He did he?
Absolutely.
He said.
He said.
He said he'll tell you something.
I don't know what he's goingto tell you, but.
Hey, I thought you were goingto say something.
Sorry, I paused.
I was just going to say SeanLegacy is going to be there.
I love Sean.
I.
You know, he came to.
He came to Soda City, and heis so much fun.
He really is so much fun.
(21:32):
He started to beat me up.
Yeah.
Did you see the video?
I talked.
I had Sean come in andthreaten Zach while he was sitting
at the table.
He should have, like, donelike giving you an AA or something
through the table.
He, he, he threatened me, butI gave him the WWDE energy back and
he didn't want to get body slammed.
So.
Yeah, Sean, Sean Legacy,Jackson Drake, those were, those
(21:55):
were two of the highlights forme because that was a really good
interview.
Being able to sit down withthe two of them, you know, in character,
but also out of character, like the, the back and forth between
them because, you know, they're clearly enemies.
But like Jackson Drake, youhave to go back and listen to the
episode or watch the episodewith the interview in it.
But Jackson talked.
(22:16):
I asked him, like, what wasthe worst injury they'd ever had.
And Jackson talks about how hegot hit by a car.
And he's talking about.
He said he, he lost his hatand he went out in the intersection
to get his hat.
Next thing he knows, he's endover end and he wakes up, you know,
like, but.
And Sean's just dying.
Dies laughing at Jacksontelling this story.
(22:38):
And at first I was like, jackson, this guy, this kid's gonna
get his feelings hurt, you know.
But they both rolled with it.
It was, it was such a good time.
And then Sean Legacy sittingon the judge pant judging panel with
a me and I for the cosplaycontest was.
Sean was fantastic because, like, the things that he would, that
(23:01):
come, would come out of hismouth as, as he was doing the judging
and looking at these costumes,he's like, he's like, that's a great
looking costume.
I don't know what the that is,but that's a great looking costume,
you.
Know.
And then, and then like theyhad posters with, you know, from
the con that they gave out toall the participants.
And Sean, out of nowhere islike, hey, I'm on those posters.
(23:25):
Anybody wants, I'll sign them.
Everybody walked over there tohave him sign it.
Oh, that's awesome.
He sat there and signed everysingle one.
Every single kid that walked over.
Yeah, he's.
He's a genuinely nice guy.
Like, I.
It was, it was, it was ourpleasure to have them.
The guy who, who work, workswith him and gets him to some of
these events.
Grady, I've known Grady for years.
(23:47):
Grady promotes a show at theJamil Temple.
I think it's the Columbiacomic and anime show.
Little quick, little shout outfor that show.
You know, super nice guy.
Yep, there we go.
And you know, Sean andJackson, if nobody, if you've never
heard of them, go to YouTubeand just type in Sean Legacy or Jackson
Drake.
It's exactly how it sounds,how it's spelled.
(24:09):
And it, if you go and watchsome of their matches and stuff,
like, yeah, these guys, Imean, they are legit.
Like, Jackson, I think iswhat, like 22 or 23 when he's 22,
and Sean's like 28 or 29.
So they're not old by anystretch of the imagination.
And you know, WWE for, I'm notspoiling anything because I don't
(24:29):
know.
But you know, around Februaryor March of every year, they do their
annual cuts and they chop offsome old talent that's kind of fading
and they promote some newtalent for two reasons.
One, the people that they cutare older and two, they get out of
the burden of their contractsand they can hire people that are
younger for and cheaper.
(24:50):
And those guys, they will beon either Friday Night Smackdown,
which starts in 29 minutes, orthey will be on Monday Night Raw.
So, I mean, at some pointwe're going to, we're going to be
able to say yes, we've had WWESuperstars at our show.
The problem is you can't getcurrent WWE Superstars at your show
because they are on lock.
(25:11):
Like, you cannot catch them.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, they're, Slaughter wason lock and he hasn't done anything
for a minute.
Yeah, we had him.
We, we had him.
Like you said, you know, atthis past Coastal and he's in the
Legends program, but he,they're able to do that once you
kind of are no longer in anactive roster, you can get them.
But yeah, anybody that'sactive, like, you can't, like you
(25:31):
can't touch a Cody Rhodes oryou can't touch, you know, any of
those guys.
I mean, you can't see John Cena.
Yeah, I met, well, so John.
But, you know, I met the Rockone time and I did touch him.
But John Cena, though, is as,as nice as a guy as he is.
(25:52):
I think that, that, you know, eventually, I don't know, his movie
career and Peacemaker and, youknow, it's, it's, I, I, I gotta believe
one day maybe he'll be, he'llbe one of those ones that'll start
making the tours, but, youknow, he is, he still ranks in the
top five for the Make a Wishfoundation as far as, like, celebrities
(26:14):
that, that will sit down.
He's number one.
Is he?
Is he, he's number one right now.
So, like, between him andwho's the Matrix guy, what's his
name?
Keanu Reeves?
The two of them are two of the most.
The.
They are.
They are so heavily evolved, involved with Make a Wish, and I
love that they do that, because if you were just to look
(26:35):
at Keanu Reeves, you'd belike, that dude's unapproachable.
But he is.
He and John Cena are two ofthe sweetest, nicest people I think,
that that could ever possiblybe entertainers.
I wish I was quick enough.
When you said, who's theMatrix guy?
I was like, Hugo Weaving.
Way off.
I don't.
He's in there.
He's Agent.
He's Agent Smith.
He's Agent Smith.
(26:55):
But I. I don't.
I don't know about hisparticipation in Making the world.
He's the Lord of the Rings guy.
Lord Elrond.
Lord Elrond.
Yeah.
So Boardwalk comic con isOctober 4th and 5th at the Myrtle.
Myrtle Beach Convention Center.
How did.
How did this all come about, Brock?
Like, what was.
What was the decision to havea con in Myrtle Beach?
(27:17):
Well, you know, one thing thatwe're always looking to do is find
underserved markets.
Yeah, just like any business.
I mean, we're a business.
You know, we're looking.
We're looking to increase our.
And get additional exposure, increase our portfolio, whatever
you want to call it.
So we're always looking for opportunities.
And Myrtle beach is a marketthat has historically been underserved.
(27:38):
They've had a couple of consdown there that just didn't quite
stick.
Not that there was anythingwrong with them.
I just don't think they hadthe firepower behind them that would
really give them the abilityto last long term.
I mean, do it.
I mean, promoting or creatinga show is not like trying to put
(28:00):
a rocket on Mars.
It's not complicated, youknow, but being able to do it successfully
and blend everything together, that is a little more challenging.
There's a lot of logistical challenges.
And so Steve and I talkedabout it, and he reached out to them,
and the city was veryinterested in hearing what we had
to say.
And so we had somerepresentatives come up to the 2024
(28:22):
Soda City Comic Con.
A lady from the CVB, and itjust blew her away.
And they were like, yes, wewant something like this in Myrtle
Beach.
And they especially likeevents during the off season.
And technically, the offseason is after.
What's the 30th of September.
(28:44):
Was that Labor Day?
Labor Day, yep, it's afterLabor Day.
And the season kicks offMemorial Day.
So between those two dates, which everybody confuses, at least
I do Labor Day, Memorial Day,which is which.
That's their peak season.
So anything after isconsidered off peak.
And they're always looking forthings to go off peak.
(29:04):
So we're like, okay, we thinkwe can do this.
Do I think it was maybe alittle foolish to do it six weeks
after Soda City?
Maybe.
We'll see.
But I'll say this, itwouldn't, it wouldn't be an inaugural
event without a hurricanebearing down our necks.
Yeah.
Oh, and that is true.
Yeah.
Well, yeah, but I think we'regoing to, I think we're going to
get bailed out on this one.
Yeah.
You think so?
Yeah, I think the likelihood.
(29:25):
Can you call my wife and makeher confident that that's what's
going to happen?
Because, well, I mean, I cantell her that I've gotten a message
from the Department ofHomeland Security and they are not
letting Humberto into thecountry, so he's not allowed in.
That's a really funny, butreally kind of a bad joke.
That's a joke and I love it.
Lucky it's not a dog becauseshe would grab a gun and kill it.
(29:47):
Yeah.
So he, he's out.
He's going out to sea.
And the other one, they, they're predicting may form into
a hurricane or a tropicalstorm, maybe Category one might hit
Charleston and come up through.
Come up through our neck ofthe woods, through Columbia, maybe
not.
Maybe they're talking aboutsome dry air that could stall it.
Who knows?
There's some Fujihawa orsomething where they merge together
(30:09):
and then go dance out the laughing.
All of that was very close.
You're.
But you're right, you'reessentially what the, the, the, the,
the storm that we're expectinghere in the Carolinas is likely going
to come on shore Mondaysomewhere between Charleston and
Myrtle beach.
Projected right now, by thetime this episode comes out, could
(30:29):
be 100% wrong.
It could be going out to sea.
But it's, it's going to be arain event.
It's going to be prettytorrential rains, mostly for, for
the Midlands up towardsAsheville, North Carolina, probably
some on the beach, but I thinkfor the most part that dry air that
you're talking about isprobably going to feed in there.
It's.
No, we should have done, weshould have gotten Weatherman Brad
on here.
Gabe.
We should have gottenWeatherman Gabe on here.
(30:50):
Oh, yeah, Gabe.
Yeah, Gabe will be there, too.
So maybe, maybe Gabe can talka little bit about it on Saturday.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Let me tell you all what just happened.
Yeah, exactly.
I say grab your cosplay, grabyour surfboard.
Either way, you're going tohave fun.
Yeah, exactly.
The layout for the, for theconvention center here in Myrtle
beach is, is, is differentfrom many of the convention centers
(31:10):
that we've, we've been at before.
Yep.
This is basically a large open floor.
But based on, based on the mapthat I've seen, it looks like you
all have figured out how tomake it work very well.
It looks like between stagesand pinball and the vintage video
games and the VR.
VR, yeah, it lays out very well.
(31:32):
Well, is it Silver City coming?
No, no, no, not this year.
Yeah, I need to call Peter.
He called me the other week.
I need to call him back.
No, you know, we.
Peter and Sonny.
Who's Sunny?
Sonny's his sister.
Oh, I never knew her name.
(31:53):
Don't wear that.
Edit that.
Okay, I'll take that out.
Clip that 32,9.
You can leave it in.
No, Sonny.
Yeah, Sonny and Peter.
Absolutely.
You ought to mute it when it goes.
I didn't know her name.
Like mute that, you know, like that.
Yeah, but, but so, so thebeautiful thing about this facility.
(32:17):
Well, number one is thelargest facility we've ever taken.
It's 100,800 square feet.
1,00 comma, 8,00.
Yep.
There's three big salons andthere's no columns.
So it's just one big ass roomis for lack of a better word.
And so, yeah, it took a littlewhile to kind of figure out.
We went through, I wentthrough probably nine iterations
(32:37):
of a floor plan back and forthwith the decorator before I finally
got it to where I feltcomfortable with it.
But here's the great thingabout this.
So next year you guys arecoming down for the full weekend
because we're, we'redefinitely going to have one next
year.
And if you don't, I'm going tobeat the shit out of you the next
time I see you.
So you gotta come next year.
We've got like a hundred.
We probably have £150 on Brockbetween the two of us.
(32:58):
So it's a, it's an interesting threat.
Feels isolate.
Yeah, but.
Yeah, but the guy who's thesmaller guy never fights fair.
Oh, I don't fight fair either.
I make everybody cry.
Anyway.
Okay, moving on.
Well, what's the wrestling term?
You hold a grown man down andthere's not a goddamn thing you can
do about it.
I'll put you out.
(33:18):
I'll tag in Sean.
So this is quickly.
This is like a foot Shorterthan me, right?
Yeah, but he.
But I think he could take you.
He also asked me, please don'tpunch me in the face.
So I was.
He did.
He.
He said, the face is the money maker.
That's he.
He appreciates no blows to the face.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But he might take you toSuplex City.
(33:39):
I'm not looking.
I'm not looking to be physical.
I'm just gonna.
I know.
I know a date and a time.
I'm gonna go meet him and belike, brock said a lot of shit, and
I'm here to.
He's like, what?
I'm like, get ready.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, I'm.
I'm.
I'm not worried.
I'm not worried about you andSean tussling and tangling, but the
beautiful thing.
Two guys just doing this knowwhat's going on.
(34:00):
Well, I'm gonna whip out mycamera and film it, because I'll
watch you get your ass kicked.
What if I didn't?
What if I, like, really just, like, crushed?
I think there would be a lawsuit.
I feel like there'd be a lawsuit.
And not just from Sean Legacy, but.
Also from Worldwide as his newtag team partner.
Well, you may add, Zach mightget a contract.
He might get signed on the spot.
There you go.
(34:20):
He's like, I tried.
And I was like, I know youdid, Lord.
Yeah.
So here's the.
Here's the great thing aboutthis facility.
So they've got a big exhibithall, which we've just talked about,
and the Sheraton Myrtle beachis attached to the convention center.
So there's a ballroom withmultiple breakout rooms that is also
attached.
So there's plenty of room toexpand this show.
(34:43):
And one thing that we reallylike about it is that we feel over
time, this can become adestination event in the fall for
the Southeast.
Yeah.
Because, I mean, you.
Do you really have to sell the beach?
No, not really.
It's the beach.
It's not going to be super hot.
It's not going to be super expensive.
(35:05):
And so a lot of people have little.
Like, we've got people, volunteers from Colombia that are
like, hey, my daughter and Iare going to come down there and
we're going to make a weekendtrip out of it.
So I think that there's goingto be a lot of people that come in
and come to the event.
And they're like, yeah, wetold you.
One of the.
One of my selling points forthe vendors were.
Was, you know what?
Come down, make some money.
(35:28):
Take a small.
Take a short little.
You Know, kind of end of theseason vacation and write the whole
thing off.
I mean, it's a relatively warm.
Oh, yeah, provided it's warm, but it.
Won'T be 100 degrees.
Now.
The water temperature, though, the water temperature still going
to be warm enough.
You could go into the beachand if you're.
Maybe if you're an oceanperson, I'll.
Tell you, this October beachis swimmable compared to April beach
(35:49):
in Myrtle Beach.
That's true.
So fair enough.
That's true.
I'm not the biggest beach guy,so I'm a.
More of a mountains cool, cooler weather than the beach.
But.
But I do think that there's alot of opportunity to grow this show.
I think there's a lot ofopportunity to.
To for this show.
Actually, of the three shows,to ultimately become the biggest
and the most attended of thethree, just because this facility's
(36:12):
bigger than anything.
And again, I mean, like Isaid, you don't have to sell the
beach.
Yeah, come to the beach for a weekend.
Come to con for a weekend.
Come to the beach.
It's, you know, how we.
Vendors.
How are we looking with vendors?
Do we sell out on vendors?
Oh, we're sold out.
We're sold out.
Fantastic.
So there's, There are a ton ofvendor spaces at this place.
(36:32):
I bought so much good vendorstuff this time, too.
So I know you're having thesame plug to go through.
I love it.
I.
There's actually a lot of.
There's a lot of newer vendorsthat are coming to the show that,
that haven't been to the other shows.
And it, it has, it has.
All it has to do with is thatwe have more space so we can bring
in some more vendors.
And, you know, I feel like wepriced it.
(36:54):
We priced it accordingly.
We heard a lot of people say,we told them how much it was.
They were like, is that fortwo booths for the whole weekend?
And I'm like, yeah.
They're like, oh, that's cheap.
I'm like, well, you're welcometo pay me more.
Nobody ever does.
Never mind.
Let me.
This is just in.
Yeah, yeah.
So that's how it works withour advertising too.
Yeah.
(37:15):
Pay me more.
Yeah, you're welcome to pay more.
No, it has never happened inthe history of business.
You can pay more now.
I'm good.
So, you know, we've got roomto grow.
We've got room to expand.
You know, if anybody, if anyof your listeners decide to come
to the beach, if they'llmention this podcast, we'll give
them $5 off their tickets.
I'll just do that.
So, yeah, if they come down, they'll get $5 off.
(37:36):
I'll tell my staff to do that.
That won't be an issue.
And I just.
I just think that there.
I think there's a lot of goodthings that can develop in Myrtle
Beach.
The city is behind us.
Their CVB is behind us.
The hotel sold out on Saturday night.
It probably will also be soldout on Friday night, but I'll deviate.
(37:56):
Justin Newerly, or whateverhis name is, did you know that Myrtle
beach has more hotel roomsthan Las Vegas?
I did.
Well, now, if you didn't know, now you know.
And it's true.
A lot of people don't realizethat, but there are more hotel rooms
in Myrtle beach than there arein Las Vegas.
Between.
How many Las Vegas fit withinthe Myrtle beach strip?
Two.
(38:16):
You can fit two.
You can fit two Las Vegases inside.
Inside of Myrtle Beach.
Inside the Myrtle beach proper.
Myrtle Beach City.
That not include north.
I don't think people know that.
I. I don't think peoplerealize just how small Las Vegas
is, because once you get.
Once you get off the Strip, you.
You.
You basically stumble intowhat is.
(38:37):
Neighborhoods that don't have grass.
Like, that's only known as Reno.
Yep.
Well, Reno's a little.
Reno's a little further to thewest and north.
Yeah.
You stumble into the desert.
Yeah, exactly.
Not saying Las Vegas isn't beautiful.
It absolutely is.
And I have had a tremendoustime in Las Vegas.
And the desert is what, backcountry?
We got to get the hell out of here.
That's right.
That's right.
(38:58):
Okay, so hard sell real quick, everybody.
Make sure if you can, this isthe weekend to go and visit Myrtle
beach and.
And get your tickets at the.
You can get the tickets at the gate.
You mentioned the podcast.
You get $5 off.
Brock has said it here.
He's going to make that happen.
Oh, that's easy.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's easy.
That's easy.
(39:19):
Brock might come to us, belike, no one got $5 off that.
Hey, that's.
That's.
That's on them.
That's.
Well, we'll.
We'll.
I'll make sure.
I'll make.
Well, I'll make sure thatthere are some definite.
Definitely some numbers thatshow up that take advantage of that.
We'll.
We'll.
Dad.
Yeah, exactly.
(39:41):
So make sure you check it out.
October 4th and 5th at theMyrtle Beach Convention center in
Myrtle Beach, South Carolina,is the boardwalk Comic Con.
First ever Boardwalk Comic Con.
With many more to come.
So, Brock, really appreciateyou coming on the show to talk about
that with us real quick.
We're going to take a shortbreak and then send it over to me
(40:03):
over at the hall of Horrors atthe KC West Columbia jcs.
Oh, we're gonna.
We're gonna make Brock.
Brock's gonna go.
Going to get Brock to go.
I can do him one better.
Go.
Leave.
We're going to get Brock to go.
So I want to thank Brock for.
Being on the show.
We're going to head over to.
We're going to head over toOshan and me myself at the.
(40:23):
All of Horrors.
Oh, Sean, your chin is over here.
We actually have a bunch ofthose that we got from Transworld.
Oh, that's not going to fit on anybody.
Oh, it's warm in here.
Is it warm in here because thebodies just collect and they still
give off that radiant heat.
Sure, we'll go with that.
(40:43):
The other side maybe.
Okay.
Yeah.
I had a girl last night thatwas in here doing all of our webbing.
Kind of give that.
That old spooky feel.
Yeah.
Slide the clothes aside.
Actually, she's one of myfavorite pieces too.
How heavy that door is.
Get some.
That's got some push to it.
(41:04):
It's actually one of myfavorite pieces too.
Yeah.
One that Jimmy worked reallyhard on a few years ago.
What's her name?
We call her Black Jessica.
Black Jessica?
Yes.
Not because of any, like, specific reason other than, like,
Black is dark and spooky andJessica's just a cool name.
Okay.
Yeah, she's kind of like ourhaunt deity.
Anytime that things go wrongin the haunt, we're just kind of
(41:25):
like, hey, Black Jessica, please, please do what you got to
do.
Make things right.
And I promise you it's gonnasound crazy, but every single time
whatever we need done happens, she's missing a hand.
Or is there a gimp hand?
There is that.
I think it's just the.
The whole, like, gimp missing aspect.
But she ties well in with thetheme this season.
And like I said, we've had herfor the last.
(41:45):
This is her third.
Third year in.
In.
In being everything that weneed here.
So.
All right.
We are here again at the KCWest Columbia JC's hall of Horrors.
We're here with Oshan.
He's going to give us a littlewalk through and a description of
some of the rooms, maybe tellus some stories about maybe what
the inspiration was or wherewe're at in the story.
Not to give a whole lot away, but you'll be able to see things
(42:08):
in this video that you wouldnot be able to see during your actual
walkthrough of the locationhere on Walter Street.
Right.
Walt 3.
Walter Price.
Walter Price.
So we're going to do that.
So what room is this?
This would just be kind of our shrine.
This poor unfortunate woman is.
She's.
She's full of wax candlesburned all over her.
(42:31):
Think of it kind of like a.
A monument to terror, in a sense.
Black Jessica.
She has.
She has a lot going on.
Who did that?
She didn't come dressed, so.
She didn't come dressed.
Actually, again, Jimmy, one ofour favorite, no longer with us hot
(42:52):
comp builders.
He's in Florida, but weactually live casted this from one
of our actors.
So this is one of the kidsthat are here, Dylan.
That's his face.
I know this is dressed as awoman, but this was a life cast of
his actual face, his actualhands underneath the dress.
Like the feet are all tied upbecause we didn't need the feet this
year.
This year.
So gruesome.
(43:13):
You gotta look at this.
Look at what the feet havebeen done.
I forgot what we actually madethis for initially, but we just needed
a body and we needed it to beexactly like this.
Ended up putting hair on her, covering her with a bunch of wax,
melting the wax all over her, binding her arms, and adding a little
blood here and there.
But yes, those gruesome feetthat customers will never see underneath
(43:36):
that dress.
So we're talking about Dylan, right?
Dylan.
No, no, not a little Dylan.
A different Dylan.
This is of still small statureDylan, but yeah, not that Dylan.
Your favorite.
My favorite, favorite Dylan ofall time, Bob Dylan.
You're out.
Little Dylan, you're in.
Okay, that's great.
All right, well, we'll move onto the next room.
(43:56):
And obviously this is.
This is clearly one of therooms that has gotten the most structural
things done.
We have seen what, two years.
This is, will be the thirdyear that we've had because this
was the outside of thefarmhouse previously.
So what role does this playthis season?
So like I said before in aprevious podcast, if anyone listen,
(44:18):
then Shelby, she didn't wantto get rid of this house.
And I agreed with her becausethis house took me.
Well, it didn't take as longas, you know, you would think it
would have taken because it'skind of just the shell of a house.
The frame not.
I mean, I built it pretty.
Pretty.
I don't have any construction background.
It's just kind of all we're here.
We do the things that we knowhow to do.
Yeah.
So I just kind of laid tapeout on the ground.
You can probably still see alittle bit of the tape, but just
(44:41):
kind of framed out the outlineof what, you know, I wanted the walls
to be.
Took some scrap.
Two by fours.
Took a bunch of osb, ripped itinto sheets, overlapped it.
We ended up having thesewindows from his house.
The local.
What are they, like a charity?
Sort of.
Yeah, we go there for a lot ofstuff if.
If we can get secondhandthings because they always have cool
(45:02):
stuff like doors, windows, things that we don't want to pay
full price for.
Right.
And we can get a bunch of themsuper cheap.
So.
Yep.
So this was the farmhouse forthe last two years, but then with
this year's theme of being thefuneral home, we wanted to give it
one more run.
It's going to be a funeralhome this year and it is my pride
and joy.
So I'm glad that she made thedecision not to tear it down because
(45:22):
it probably would have hurt.
And if I could pick it up andtake it outside.
Unfortunately, it's not builtmodularly, so when it's time for
it to go, it's.
Probably axes and saws and.
Yeah, we might be able to getit apart in pieces, but I would love
for it to be outside and like, continue it, but it wouldn't survive
in the outdoor element.
So just, just so you know, this is the year you have to come
if you want to see thisbecause the likelihood is it will
(45:46):
not be here next year.
Probably not.
New things, new scares.
We actually thought about thatthe other night.
New stuff for next year already.
So.
Okay.
It's already starting.
We're not even done with this season.
We open in what, a week andtwo days and we're already on to
the next year.
So the, the.
The story this year is about.
It takes place with a funeral home.
It is the generational.
(46:08):
It's a generational funeralhome like that.
We're on the.
We're on the most recentiteration of this.
This family owning thisfuneral home.
I believe, according to thestory, he's the third generation
generational passed down nerve.
What do you call that?
Like a. Yeah, yeah.
Nepotism.
No, funeral home nepotism.
Nepo baby.
Yeah.
No.
So, yeah, it'll be the thirdper the story time that's been passed
(46:31):
down, but he's the one that'sstarting to, like, make it really
creepy and weird.
So it was on the up and up inthe beginning but now he's keeping
people, saving the bodies, turning them all into creepy things.
Kind of like that prop that wesaw in the other room.
Yeah.
It's.
Again, this.
What.
What you all built here is.
Is.
Is such a cool thing that you.
When you walk in here, initially, I wouldn't think that
(46:53):
you'd walk into a room thathas the outside facade of an entire
building.
That is one thing that I cansay that I'm really proud of.
And we had our actor training,as you know, last night, and then
on that this previous Sunday, and everyone that came through that
never been in before, that wasone of the number one things that
they said was, wow.
We didn't realize that thisplace was big on the inside, like
(47:15):
looking at that building onthe outside.
So again, it's kind of that whole.
Making the most of what we have.
And we have huge ceilings onthe second half of the building.
So it was like, hey, go big orgo home.
Yeah, really good job.
Go bigger.
Go home.
So we're outside the funeral home.
Yes.
All right.
And the outside of the funeralhome, you're.
We kind of did, like, a woodskind of motif.
(47:36):
There's a cemetery beginningon the other side of these.
But Shelby and I took ourtime, made a bunch of trees again,
bringing the outdoors inside.
So.
So there are new trees here.
Yes.
So this is one of the onesfrom last year, the original that
I built.
And if you remember, there wasan actor pop.
That nobody would see coming through.
And especially in the dark, wehad the thunder and lightning going
(47:57):
in here.
Yeah.
So it kind of hit a lot of theimperfections that you obviously
get to see under the house lighting.
But when show lighting is on,you know, we've got Mac, our audio
engineer, he's added, youknow, the outdoor sounds of crickets
and howls and wind blowing.
And last year, like I said, the thunderstorm.
But then this season, in orderto expand the room a little more
showy, went ahead, tookinitiative, and recreated all the
(48:19):
same trees that I did lastyear along the path before they go
into the greenhouse.
That is.
That is such a good work.
Like, I wouldn't.
This isn't.
This isn't something that Iwould think of doing.
Yeah.
And it's one of those things.
This room, I guess you wouldprobably consider it cursed, in my
opinion.
And terms of trying to createsomething and think of what we could
add, that was different thisseason, for the life of me, we could
(48:41):
not figure out what to put inthis room.
And we were just like, youknow what?
Let's just expand the trees, row of trees, and then on the other
side, there's the open graveand, like I said, the grave digger
character and everything.
So it's.
I think we finally broken the curse.
How many hours does it take toconstruct an object like this?
Stuff like this is verytedious, just because it's got a
wooden framework on theinside, and then it's got the chicken
(49:03):
wire wrap, and then it's gotpaper on top of that, like the brown
butcher paper, and thenpainstakingly foamed the entire outside
to kind of give that wood, like, texture.
And then, you know, once youcome in with the camel netting and
then the faux leaves and mossand everything like that.
So, I mean, you're talkinghours specifically between, you know,
just a few people that we haveworking here at a given time.
(49:25):
I mean, it could be days longworth of a project.
That's such good work.
That's so cool.
What.
What type of trees are these?
I believe she said somethinglike it reminded her of red oaks,
but, I mean, they're obviouslynot as tall as those.
All right, so now we are intothe greenhouse.
Into the greenhouse.
This one of our other babiesthis season.
(49:46):
It's kind of gotten neglectedin the past in terms of we.
We just didn't fill up thespace as much as we wanted to with
just random junk things thatmake it feel more lived in.
Yeah.
So that was the goal this season.
We added the lawnmower in herebecause, if you remember, last season,
the lawnmower was out there infront of the house, right?
Yeah, it was the farmhouse.
But now that it's thegraveyard, we were like, well, we
(50:08):
can't get that out of the doorbecause it won't fit out of any of
the doors that we had accessto deconstruction without ripping
everything else down.
We were like, let's just pushit into the greenhouse.
So we end up tearing one ofthose walls off the greenhouse, actually,
to get it in here.
But then, yeah, we just.
Shelby spent a lot of time inhere filling it up with just everything
you could find, like tails, gas cans, all the plant life.
(50:31):
I mean, I'm sure we couldprobably add more before we open,
but.
Yeah, it's just littletrinkets on the shelf.
Our giant pumpkin guy up therewho is pneumatic.
Maybe this season I'll get himto work.
Okay.
The only reason I didn't useit last year was because I couldn't
get the audio as loud as Iwanted on it.
So you could hear the cylinderon It.
But his mouth moves and thenhe has this creepy, like, I'm the
(50:52):
Pumpkin King kind of, youknow, thing going on.
But because the character inthis room is kind of a pinup style
bug lady, then he.
He can take a back seat thisseason if he had to.
Okay, so the bug lady is oneof the creations left over from the
mortician's games that he's playing.
Yes, I think that.
(51:12):
And it's.
I can't wait to see it come together.
I'm right now trying to figureout how I can make the eyes for the
character just, you know, big buggy.
Like you can still see out ofit as the actor.
But I haven't figured that out yet.
But when I do, you know, mandibles on the face and everything.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
Her with her little like bugsprayer that says human side on the
outside of it.
Yeah.
And spraying at customers.
(51:35):
So that will kind of tie inwith the next little space that's
not quite done yet.
But we want to do a giant.
So hopefully you are seeing everything.
That's right.
So none of these plants are real.
Right.
And these plants are real.
We do have a habit of bringingthe outside in sometimes.
Yeah.
In that front room or in thegraveyard, you'll see like just shrubbery
(51:57):
and things that we've clippedin the yard that we bring in.
And it only lives for about, you know, a week or so and then it's
all good.
But I think that adds to thewhole, like, creepiness of it all.
You've got a little live.
You got a lot of dead.
So you gotta, you gotta bringsomebody into water.
That's.
Yeah, I get it.
That's tough.
I think maintenance is on ahiatus right now, so.
Well, you know, there havebeen cuts to usaid, so it is what
(52:17):
it is.
See, I think you could justput me at the ticket table and be
like, registered Republican,registered Democrat.
What are we doing?
Yes.
Once you pass away, you've gota job.
Oh, See, I totally wasthinking that this was going to be
difficult to walk through andI was going to get stabbed.
Everyone said.
Okay.
So when we had the actormeeting last night, they literally
walked past that one rightthere and they, they thought they
(52:38):
were hard and spiky, but.
Yeah, no, we made them out ofpool noodles, wrapped them in plastic,
then we heat gun the plasticso that it would kind of shrinky
dink style down onto the.
The pool noodles.
Yeah.
And then just hit them withdry brushes.
We got to touch a lot of thisstuff up.
But just because over, youknow, this has been the.
This will be the third seasonthat we're running it.
And they get a little wear andtear during the season.
(52:59):
Getting so close to them andtouching them and everything, so.
But that's.
That's hot.
Life.
Yeah.
Always repairing stuff.
Yeah.
I thought that I was gonnahave a difficult time with that.
We should probably make those sharper.
I mean, you need a break or anything?
Huh?
Okay.
It becomes.
You have those arms and.
Yeah.
Well, hello.
Yeah, he's new.
I just added him the othernight as well.
(53:19):
I don't know how I'm going totheme around him, but he's been kind
of chilling.
If you remember, he was on theoutside of the farmhouse.
Are you.
Well, his.
His fingers go straight.
You know those are Alex'shands, right?
Are they really?
They are.
We live casted those hands.
And then I life cast thatskull as well.
It was a cow skull that we.
And I just took some silicone, reverse molded it, threw some a B
(53:44):
foam into it.
The five pound weight I thinkit is.
And so it's soft, flexible foam.
And these are his hands.
We like casted those as well.
That's crazy.
And yeah, we, if we can do itourselves, we like to.
Can you explain the life casting?
Like what is the processinvolved in this?
Yes.
So I am deathly afraid ofpotentially getting my face done,
but I really would like itdone so that I could get into sculpting,
(54:07):
custom prosthetics andeverything for myself.
Yeah.
However, Dylan, him being brave.
If you remember that one cropin the front with the wax on it,
that is his face, his hands, his feet that are crunched up under
there.
But he was very patient with us.
It takes about probably anhour, an hour and a half maybe for
the complete process.
But basically you take lifecast silicone, which is skin safe,
(54:30):
and just leave two littleholes for his mouth so you can't
be claustrophobic when you do it.
Yeah.
And then we just cover.
Cover his head completely.
He bald cap his head and tieshair down and everything covers complete
head completely.
You know, painted up, I thinkto his elbows.
We did.
And then same with up to abouthis shins on his feet.
Then once the silicone sets, which takes about 20 minutes or so,
(54:52):
20 to 30 minutes, we coverthat with plaster bandages.
Okay.
And those take about another15, 20 minutes or so there.
And he's all in this.
He's in this the entire time.
So we have to make sure we doit in an air conditioned area somewhere
that he's Comfortablesomewhere where Inhalated out.
Yeah, there's a smell.
I'm telling you, there is no smell.
Oh, okay.
That's good.
But I'm just always afraid ifI do it that, like, my nose will
(55:14):
stop up that day.
And then I'm just like stuckin this.
It terrifies me, but I reallywant to get it done at some point.
Your body sized caffeine, coughing.
That's.
You're done.
There you go.
But yeah, after that wholeprocess, we reverse it.
We take all the plaster off.
Now we have the hard shell of those.
I could probably show those toyou later.
But we have the hard shells of the.
The plaster, the insidesilicone mold at this point, now
(55:37):
the negative.
And then we put it all backtogether once it's taken off a Dylan.
And then we just run foam abexpanding foam expands about 15 times,
I think, the weight of that foam.
So it doesn't take a lot offoam, but it expands, you know, a
crazy amount.
And then you get pristine, like you.
Just crack it all off.
And then you take it all offin the reusable mold.
So we can make as many copiesas we want.
(55:59):
Yep.
That's cool.
That's very cool.
I remember this space.
Yes, yes, yes.
This is one of our, like, random.
So I really wanted again, utilizing the big, tall ceilings
that we have in this space.
I wanted this area to feel.
Make it kind of feel small.
So that was the whole idea ofthe taller structures.
This one being kind of amausoleum y crypt kind of feel.
(56:21):
Yeah, these are.
This is just one.
And so this is us recycling things.
This is one of those plasticthings from like Halloween Express,
the little busts or whatever.
Right, right.
And we just take.
I think it's.
What is it?
Sawdust.
And then we take latex paintjust because this was already hard.
And then that gives us thatkind of rocky, rocky texture.
(56:41):
But like on all this, this isall OSB cut into strips.
And then these are pump poolnoodles up here.
You can kind of see where it's fantastic.
So we just really make themost out of any material that we
can find.
And then this is drywall pastemixed with paint that turns into
what's called monster mud inour industry.
Okay.
And it dries rock hard, givesyou that weird texture if you really
(57:02):
need it to or you could smoothit out.
And that's what we used tocover everything that, you know,
we needed stone looking out here.
So.
And then this is just, honestly a mannequin, one of those
cheap wig heads.
We have a million of we had a.
What do you call these?
The little mannequins fromlike the window.
The store display mannequins.
I found some plants randomlyand then a dress.
(57:24):
Put all that stuff on her, sprayed her with the same mixture
that we do everything else tokind of harden things.
And then now we got a statue.
Then we have an actress thatstands in this exact spot and does
the same thing.
Kind of looks like my exwife's wedding dress a little bit.
Oh, her dress.
Different color.
But no, she doesn't.
I don't know.
This guy is new.
(57:44):
Are we.
Was he in.
Was he in here last year?
Was he.
Last year was his first year.
Okay.
Last year was his first year.
Was he turned on like this?
Okay.
I different turned on.
I don't know if the lightswere on, to be honest, because I
wasn't really a fan.
We ended up getting this supercheap again from Facebook Marketplace.
I think someone was prettymuch selling it at rock bottom prices.
So kind of fit the theme interms of being outside in the graveyard.
(58:07):
I'm not a fan of likeHalloween plasticky props.
But again, fill in the spaceit needed to do what it did.
I would probably go back inand like seam all of this stuff and
then probably even coat it inany type of like hardening material
that we have repainted.
But you got to admit, you allbenefit from the fact that it is
dark.
And the likelihood is thatsomeone's not going to be focused
(58:29):
on any of these.
They're not going to befocused on the fact that they can
see up that direction.
They're going to be looking atthe ground waiting for your.
Waiting for one of your actorsto jump out at them.
Correct.
And a lot of that is helped bythe lighting.
If you notice up here on thetop, a lot of our lighting is down
lighting.
Right.
It really keeps you fromseeing all the high ceilings.
Anything that we really don'twant you to see, we try and disguise
(58:50):
with the lighting.
So I'm pointing those lightsat something specific.
That's what we want you tofocus on.
So you're right.
A lot of this won't even beseen or if it is, I don't think it
takes away from the experience.
Agreed.
Yeah.
That's very cool.
That's very cool.
His jaw moves.
It does actually.
It does this full like it'smotion sensor.
So I don't think it's on right now.
But I mean it's on but I don'tknow how to activate it.
(59:13):
Yeah, I don't think I'VE everused it.
Fire department came throughhere, gave you.
All the all clear.
Yes, that is one of our.
It gets stressful every seasonbecause we know what we need to do
and they know what we need to do.
It's just a matter of doing it.
And you'd be surprised howmuch stuff undoes itself while you're
not here throughout the year.
(59:34):
But yeah, we're all good to go.
Next Friday we open at 7:30.
Okay.
All right.
Tickets available online.
Hall of Wars.
Yeah, perfect.
All right.
What is this?
One last thing.
I guess this is.
We redid her this year again, upcycling things if I'm going to
talk about it.
So.
Oh, we bought a pneumaticscissor mechanism that most people
(59:57):
won't see.
But the mechanism, it's ametal framed pneumatic cylinder.
It's got this prop attached tothe end of it.
It did not come with this prop.
This, if you remember, wasthis cheesy scream looking mask and
just like a little black robeand it just kind of like flung out
at people.
Yeah, yeah.
Really embarrassing to have, but it filled the space when we needed
it.
It makes an obnoxiousscreaming sound when, when I've got
(01:00:19):
everything plugged in.
It's missing a speaker rightnow, but makes an obnoxious screaming
sound when it comes out.
And it does one of these numbers.
But I upcycled just a. Wow.
I think this was from DollarGeneral or something like that.
It was a, it was an all whitemask, repainted it, added kind of
like grungy things, added aneyeball, got some hair from the wig
(01:00:41):
store.
99 cents a pack.
You cannot beat that with a stick.
And then just took some, somedrop cloth from, from Lowe's.
And then this is what you calljute netting.
So we love to use it everywhere.
We call it our little drippings.
Yeah, yeah.
So add jute netting, somehands and then, you know, I, I hot
glued all this together.
So this isn't even a complete outfit.
It's just kind of as I saw itas I was doing it.
(01:01:02):
Gluing everything, tacking it,making it look how I wanted it to
look.
And like I said, once you hitthat step pad that usually gets hidden,
she'll swing out at you and doone of these numbers.
She going to bang her headagainst the top probably.
Well, hey, adds effect.
All right.
Oh, this is a, this is a catacombs.
So this was a work in progresslast week.
(01:01:25):
Still is.
Okay, okay.
Still is.
But we're getting there.
We're getting there.
How much work does it becauseultimately describe what it is you
all are trying to do.
Because people know what acatacomb is.
Correct.
So we ended up again, HomeDepot being one of our favorite places.
Picked up one of these.
Use some of my favorite materials.
Again, drop cloth jutenetting, just to kind of give you
that weird, drippy, creepy, push past thing that, you know, people
(01:01:48):
don't really like to do intodark spaces specifically.
But when you go into thecatacombs, it's going to be full
of coffins, skeletons.
We've got an actor that cameon Sunday to the actor meeting, and
as soon as she saw this spacelast year, she was in the graveyard,
but she saw this space andshe's like, I have my look that I
want to do in there.
This is my spot.
So people are already callingdibs on.
It, but it's great.
(01:02:10):
Hopefully it turns out to beone of the better spots.
We kind of let it sit on theback burner last season, but this
season where we got some funstuff planned for it.
Okay, we're going to have alot of fog in here too.
Probably a lot of fog.
Just ordered fog because Ithink you reminded me the last time.
So literally, after we weredone with that interview, I was like,
shelby, you need to order fog.
So we got fog ordered.
A lot of it is on the way.
(01:02:30):
You all can thank Barrett Gruber.
You can follow me everywhereat Barrett Gruber.
What he said.
Oh, gosh.
Watch your head.
Okay.
All right.
I can see it.
I can see it.
So where's the actor.
Actor going to be?
Well, if I told you thatright, don't tell me.
No reason to come back.
Don't tell me.
You don't have to tell me.
You know I'm going to come back.
(01:02:51):
I think I absolutely know thatyou're going to come back.
Yeah, we popped the spring offthat door because we're going in
and out of it right now.
But that door will be nonaccessible to.
To people.
Well, it was moving on its owna second ago, so I didn't know.
Absolutely.
It's haunted.
It's haunted, Barrett.
But as they come into thecatacombs, we're working to bring
the ceiling down, you know, make it feel like a confined area.
Like I said, it's going tohave coffins everywhere, skeletons.
(01:03:14):
We've got last minute touchups paintings to do to bring it all
together, give us the finallook that we're looking for.
But we spend a lot of time inhere spray foaming everything that
you.
See, you know, just including herself.
Including herself.
I think she walked away fromthis probably.
Have you seen that meme ofthat lady that uses the spray foam
as hair stuff?
Yes, yes.
(01:03:34):
That was Shelby at the end ofthe night, and I was mad because
I didn't wear a glove onenight and got spray foam.
It does not come off.
It does not come off.
This is really cool.
And it feels like, you know,it feels like a catacomb.
Yeah.
We're implementing a lot ofsmall spaces this season, so, like,
as you go underneath thiscoffin, you'll have to duck underneath
(01:03:55):
as you go into the next hallway.
They're not up yet, but, youknow, airbags to give you that claustrophobic,
dim feeling.
I love this everything.
And then got a little coffinsurprise that I'm not going to spoil
on here.
Okay.
I'm really excited about it.
But I'll tell you off the.
Oh, all right.
I'll clue you guys in after I.
After I walk through.
After you walk through.
Hey, you can video your walk.
I'll let you do that once we open.
(01:04:17):
I need to get one of thoseseeing the dark cameras.
There you go.
Watch your head.
So this space is going to bewhere the bubbles are that you have
to walk through.
So those on the ground rightnow need to be installed.
But they are the airbags thatwe've had.
I think last season was thefirst season that we used them.
I hate them because they justfeel like germs to me and there's
(01:04:37):
no going around them.
So I'd be thinking about that now.
Even as we walk through everynight to give away cough drops and
water bottles and everything.
It's just squeezing intopeople's germs, their sweat, their.
Oh, yeah, you're welcome.
That's pleasant.
You're welcome.
So this is going to be one ofour pre finale rooms.
They were working on it.
You can probably still smellthe fresh, like, fresh stain as they
(01:04:57):
were staining the coffins andeverything last night.
We'll add a lot more foliagein here.
You know, we love bringingoutdoors in.
So bringing more tree kind ofthings, more netting, more of my.
Like I said, my drippies and everything.
And this will be.
Pardon our dust.
This will be one of our.
One of our finale rooms.
(01:05:18):
You've got that last littlehallway, but she's not done.
Okay.
There's a.
There's dead space behind there.
Dead space that will not bedead once.
Okay.
But I'm not going to spoil.
Okay.
Not going to spoil that.
All right.
I'm going to walk back.
I'm going to walk this direction.
Is it a push?
You can push.
Barrett, we dropped the ballon that.
(01:05:38):
You say I dropped the ball.
I just left it open for interpretation.
There you go.
All right.
So I know this thing, our drop panel.
We've got an actor that'swaiting on this, like, quite literally
just waiting to.
And I feel great for thisactor because they're going to be
in this space, is our space.
Like, out here.
This door will be closed, socustomers won't see that side.
(01:05:59):
But this person, they're goingto be in the air conditioning.
They're going to be, you know,a part of whatever's going on in
that front room while we're open.
So I feel like this.
If I was acting, this would bemy space.
This is.
If you want to come andvolunteer one night.
It's got your name on it.
Okay.
Makeup and everything.
I don't think we've ever done that.
Have we never done that?
No, we haven't done that yet.
No, we haven't done that yet.
We should try that one.
I had to hook a GoPro up orsomething right here.
(01:06:22):
Just to point down.
That would be amazing.
That would be fantastic.
Plan that.
Okay.
All right, we'll do that.
There's a lot of weekends in October.
Okay.
There's the average number ofweekends in October.
We just try and maximize thelittle weekends that we have.
So is this.
There isn't much left?
No, no, no.
I was about to say they'regoing to go down that hallway and
be out.
And then they go out of the exit.
(01:06:43):
They go out the exit.
Chainsaw, chainsaw, chainsaw.
Okay, all right.
Chainsaw is fun.
I can't.
I. I've tried not doingchainsaws before, and it does not
work.
Do you just.
People mutiny.
Because the last couple years, you've been on the administrative
or the.
The over.
Overwatch part of it.
When you see people exitingand there isn't a chainsaw, do you
(01:07:03):
immediately feel, like, thetingle in your fingers to.
So if it's an actor issuewhere the chainsaw doesn't go off,
yes, that's depressing.
But it happens sometimes thatthe chainsaws malfunction.
That's why we have a few ofthem on standby.
Now we've learned our lesson.
There have been nights wherewe've had to run out to Lowe's in
the middle of the night andjust go and grab a chainsaw, because
you cannot have a hauntedhouse without a chainsaw.
(01:07:24):
The one year that I triedbecause it wasn't on theme.
Customers.
Let me have it.
Dang.
Where's the chainsaw?
You have to have a chainsaw.
And you would think thatthat's overplayed and overdone, but
customers want a chainsaw.
Doesn't matter.
People do enjoy running fromsomebody with a chainsaw.
I personally hate chainsaws.
When I go to haunts, theyscare the crap out of me.
But, well.
Oh, Sean, I appreciate youwalking us through and doing this
(01:07:44):
with us again.
Absolutely.
You know, we'll schedule anight where we can potentially get
some talking with some of thepeople that come out, too.
So.
Cool.
Deal.
Be fun.
Thank you, sir.
Thank you.
All right, we're gonna headback to the studio.
All right.
I want to thank oshun at theKC West Columbia JC's hall of Horrors.
I want to also thank myselffor going out there and taking the
(01:08:05):
time to walk through that foryou all.
Don't forget, I do all of thisfor you, the audience.
If you come to my house,Barrett, I have a cross built my
yard, and I even put stairsthere so you could crawl up there.
I don't want to talk ill ofthe dead, but I'll just mention this
real quick.
(01:08:25):
One of the most absurd thingsthat I think I've seen in a while
was a church where a guy wasdragging the cross.
He was dressed as Jesus.
He was dragging the crossacross the stage.
It was on roller skates.
The cross was on a roller skate.
Pick it up.
Christ didn't have no antifriction devices.
(01:08:46):
Yeah.
So I want to remind everybodythat the Boardwalk Comic Con is taking
place this weekend, October4th and 5th, at the Myrtle Beach
Convention Center.
You want to go check that out?
You can get tickets at thedoor as well.
You can get tickets online.
Also want to remind everybodythat the total abortion ban protest
is going to be taking placeWednesday, October 1, at room 130
(01:09:07):
of the Gresitt Building, whichis directly adjacent to the State
House grounds.
I will be there.
If you see me, I will probablybe wearing, I don't know, an AAN
shirt that has Jesus on it.
And a thong.
Yeah, and a thong.
I promise I will wear a thong.
You heard it here first.
Heard it here first.
But.
(01:09:27):
Yeah.
So the.
But, Casey.
West Columbia JC's horrorHouse of Horrors opens up this weekend.
The Boardwalk Comic Con opensup this weekend.
It's gonna be a big weekendhere in South Carolina, so make sure
you check all of that out.

Oh, yeah.
Fantastic.
Yeah, Fantastic.
Lauren.
(01:10:28):
Lauren and Park.
Fantastic.
Yeah.
The.
The.
What is it?
Is it?
Sure.
Media.
They.
The.
They do these little intro.
This is.
This is actually something Iget kind of excited about, and I
hate everybody.
Everything and everyone.
So if I'm excited about it,people need to listen.
So what Laura, what Laurendoes for us, for a small nominal
(01:10:50):
fee, of course, is she willcreate these intro videos for the
panels, and she'll takesplices from different movie clips
or TV shows and kind of blendthem all together and create an intro.
And I'll tell you, they were.
She had one for every panelthis year.
Last year, we did it for some of.
Some of the bigger panels, notevery one of them.
(01:11:12):
This year, I said, we're goingto do it for every one of them.
And I'll tell you, if you're.
If your audience goes andlooks at any of them, go look at
the one for John Heater's panel.
It is.
The intro is fantastic.
