Fox Sports Radio Gambler.
Speaker 2 (00:06):
Fox Sports Radio in Philly is the Gambler coming to
you live from Chikey's and Pete's in Marlton, New Jersey.
Every Monday Night. It's the All Pro Philly Players Show.
Now Here are your hosts, Gerald Colton, then Eagles inside Him,
Dave Spidero, Hello everybody.
Speaker 3 (00:28):
And video and de bluffim is chicking of Peeks in Marlton,
New Jersey and the All Pro Philly Players Show. We
have another glorious victory Monday in the Delaware Valley. We
beat the Dallas Cowboys, and god normally Dallas.
Speaker 1 (00:43):
We feel so good and it always feels good.
Speaker 3 (00:45):
I'm not minimizing it, but they were they they're no
punch back in them. As you dominated again, the Philadelphia
Eagles moved the seven to two first place in the division,
second best record in the conference, were almost tied for
the first if Detroit's game had.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Held up last night, and head.
Speaker 3 (01:00):
Into a Thursday clash with division rival Washington Commanders. Great
day to be a Philadelphia Eagle fan in Philadelphia.
Speaker 1 (01:07):
Great day to be a chicken sweets at Walton.
Speaker 3 (01:09):
And I am so thrilled to be here with my
co host Dave Spadeia, Welcome back from Dallas, Dave.
Speaker 4 (01:14):
Thanks Gerald. You know, it's really weird, like it usually
you feel a sense of euphoria for twenty four hours
after a game, after a win, and that's not the
case this time. Because it's such a quick turnaround to
Thursday night and the Washington Commanders very satisfying victory on Sunday,
complete domination. You still get the sense that this team
didn't play its best, best, best game, which is really exciting,
(01:35):
and still thirty four to six over the Dallas Cowboys,
who absolutely suck. I mean, the Eagles made them look
so bad and we want to talk about it with
our guests here, but like it gives you an indication
of just how good this football team can be when
everything goes well, and a lot of things went well.
The defense has just been lights out, great stops in
the red zone. Yesterday I gave a shout out special teams.
(01:58):
I thought that, you know, of the things that Dallas says,
They've got a dynamic return man who had a couple
of big kickoff returns, but in the punt game nothing
and one of the guys, the guy next to us,
is a huge reason for that. But this team, like
you just see it growing and growing and growing and
like not letting any set back hold it back. And
everyone knows their role, striving for more, pushing the guy
(02:22):
in front of them. It's a wonderful thing to see
how the Philadelphia Eagles have rebounded and really move forward
after too and two start.
Speaker 1 (02:29):
Well, it's been a great hour. No wait, hold on
a second.
Speaker 3 (02:32):
I agree with everything you're saying, and I am so excited,
especially since it just feels like it's getting better every week.
So without further ado, I got to introduce our guest
and I'm so thrilled to be here. You know, it
is so hard in the NFL to have a road
game into Dallas Land in early wee hours of the morning,
have a Thursday night coming up and still show up
at Chicky's and pizza a mon so and well, thank
(02:53):
you so much so introducing And he came here last
year and everybody loved them, and he's back again this
year and we're so to have them. And it's been
an interesting year since last year. So we'll get to that.
But by way of London, Ontario, people probably picked that's England,
but it's in Canada, University of Illinois, the fighting line
I who are enjoying a very nice season in a
(03:14):
big ten A third round pick of the Phildelp Eagles
in twenty twenty three, number twenty one.
Speaker 1 (03:20):
Sydney Brown.
Speaker 3 (03:24):
Wa.
Speaker 4 (03:27):
Yeah, it's quite the introduction.
Speaker 3 (03:29):
Hello Sydney, and welcome. We thank you so much for coming.
I mean that sincerely. Obviously it's a very short week
as you take the field again and I guess what
is it seventy to two?
Speaker 4 (03:38):
So when the Eagles I've calculated ninety one and a
half hours we landed at about like twelve forty five
last night. Is an eight to fifteen start on Thursday.
That's like ninety one and a half hours. It's crazy.
How quick? How does your body feel? How do you
get back? Give us some tips?
Speaker 5 (03:53):
Yeah, I mean it's a quick turnaround, you know.
Speaker 6 (03:56):
The you know, Sarianne's gonna do a good job of
taking care of us this week, making sure that probably
most of it's gonna be walked through. Yeah, making sure
that we're getting the mental reps and everything. But we
hadn't we started today. We had a lift early this morning,
got in you know, trying to meet with the coaches,
get a watch over, go over and take get over
some keys. And I mean it's it's gonna be a
quick start, so you don't really have that Monday, Tuesday
ease into the week and you know, work the Sunday.
Speaker 5 (04:18):
I mean, you're you're straight to.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
Work, Sidney. What what is the well, first of all,
the feeling that you have this team has after such
a convincing win on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys. Five
straight wins for the Eagles, a seven and two record,
what's it feel like to be rolling?
Speaker 6 (04:33):
I mean, I think it's we're taking a week by
week and I think that's been the mindset since week one.
Speaker 5 (04:38):
You know, you can't let the starter.
Speaker 6 (04:40):
I mean it's easy to look at the start and
be like this season might be a little flaky, but no,
I mean we we've just been taken a week by week,
focusing on what we can and no dominating.
Speaker 5 (04:49):
And I think, you know, Dallas. Give it to Dallas.
I don't think they're a bad.
Speaker 6 (04:52):
Football team, but I think it shows how good we
are as a football team right now. And you know,
week to week, we just keep getting better and better.
And I think when we start, when you start playing complimentary.
But all the way we are right now on all phases,
you know, with the defense being able to you know,
bounce back from a quick tone over by oh and
stop them in the red zone and you know, force
a force a field goal. I mean, those are moments
you can't even value the big time.
Speaker 3 (05:13):
It's a big time and Sonny, you're not that new
to this town anymore, even though it's relatively short.
Speaker 1 (05:18):
But I'm sure it feels like.
Speaker 3 (05:20):
You've been here a little bit of a while, especially
he's rehabbing stuff like that that you did.
Speaker 1 (05:23):
And we'll get into that. But the Dallas Eagles.
Speaker 3 (05:26):
Robbery is pretty intense here and and and the build
up always is big. But this team was punchless and
so bad that Michael Parsons, who's actually got more Philadelphia
connection than he does the Dallas connection and Penn State
guy and he's always had sixer games in the first
round and stuff like that.
Speaker 1 (05:40):
I mean, he threw his own coach under the bus
in a big way.
Speaker 3 (05:43):
I don't know if you heard the quotes, no, but
but he said he said things to the effect that
that he wants to win for the guys that have
been there a long time.
Speaker 1 (05:54):
I mean, they have a great guard. He's probably closer time,
and I want to win for them.
Speaker 3 (05:58):
Uh. And these guys work harder and do more than
Mike McCarney ever does. It's like you guys, you guys
beat them into the ground and took their hearts out.
Speaker 5 (06:07):
It's crazy.
Speaker 6 (06:08):
I mean, like we're lucky to have the backing that
we do with Seraani, you know, Jeffrey Laurie and then
Howie Rose. Mean you know what I mean that they're
doing great job bringing the right guys in, you know,
providing us with everything that we need to be successful.
So you know, I'm lucky to reflect on that and
not have the same situation that he's looking at.
Speaker 3 (06:23):
Well, you're talking about some stuff that that we will
also get into, and that is the unity of this organization,
no matter what the criticism is from the outside. You
guys are real good at tuning that out and rightfully so,
and especially in a tough media town like Philadelphia, we're
the easiest media there is and we're not really media,
but it's it really is something about watching the togetherness
(06:45):
of your team and dealing with adversity and how other
teams don't deal with it as well, and that's the
true test of what it makes a team a winner.
Speaker 5 (06:52):
Yeah, one hundred percent.
Speaker 6 (06:53):
I think I think one thing that we preach more
than anything is connecting and we see a week to week,
you know, we work on it every single day at practice.
Speaker 5 (07:01):
We work, we work our butts off.
Speaker 6 (07:03):
I mean, we're doing everything the right way, and I
think we can say that I'm you're good, I mean
said worse. I mean, like every single week we keep
building trust and respect with the coaches and vice versus.
So we just got to keep going. And obviously I
don't think any of us are satisfied. I don't think
we really realize what we're doing right now. We're just
(07:24):
kind of taking a one week at a time and
making sure that we're gonna keep marching, keep stacking, you know.
Speaker 4 (07:28):
For you, Sydney, I mean, look, the key to the
turnaround here is obviously when you became when you got
off the uh pup physically unable to perform and started
practicing and got back to it another key piece to
the team. It has been a really wonderful thing to
see you get more and more and more integrated and
get get back after the ACL injury. But as you
kind of you know, the first four games very tough
(07:49):
for you walking, But like, what did you see from
the football team in those first two games? Just was
it just an inconsistency with the team, Was it just
trying to figure out who it was?
Speaker 6 (08:00):
Like?
Speaker 4 (08:00):
How do you kind of compare those four games in
these last five games. Yeah, I think we're just focusing
too much on the outside.
Speaker 6 (08:07):
And I think what you see now is like we're
just we believe what's inside the building. You know, we're
blocking out the outside noise and just we're just doing
what we're supposed to do. You know, everybody believes that.
We don't want to be seven and two, we want
to do.
Speaker 5 (08:17):
Some special shit.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
Yeah you know what I mean, Well that was.
Speaker 1 (08:22):
You got to put that.
Speaker 5 (08:24):
But I mean, it's not about being seven and two.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
You know, we're going for the end year, but we're
not focused on We're just focused on one game at
the time.
Speaker 3 (08:31):
Dave, you touched it on this in your in your
opening remarks and city this is what it seems from
the outside. Now, this is I guess your second year
is a Philadelphia Eagle, which is a short time in
life but a long time in the NFL years, it's
like these are like dog years really and so but
but from my perspective, you had a team that went
to the super Bowl in twenty twenty two that you joined.
(08:53):
You got off to a ten and one start last year,
and I want to compare last year's and this year's
feeling in a moment, but everything went fell to pieces
kind of similar time that you got hurt.
Speaker 1 (09:03):
I don't know if there's a correlation, but you know,
you know. But then this year, Howie.
Speaker 3 (09:10):
Roseman, you point him out, and the organization went out
and got some guys, and that you were having so
many players contribute so much and really their first year
as a player for the Philadelphi Eagles or as a starter,
and like guy like Nikobe Dean, but you go out
and get the Kobe's been fabulous, Zach Bond and the
(09:30):
rookies in the corners of Cooper and Mitchell of course,
and a whole bunch of other guys. It's just been
so many guys who stepped in and filled in for
a team. And it seems like wherever the holes were
that maybe caused the slide at the end of last
year and not you guys to fulfill what your goals
are seem to have been corrected, and then some with
a team that really looks like it's just coming.
Speaker 1 (09:50):
Together, which would explain maybe a slow.
Speaker 3 (09:51):
Start as guys are playing a first row to new coordinators,
a whole bunch of other stuff.
Speaker 5 (09:55):
Yeah, no doubt, I think.
Speaker 6 (09:56):
I mean, you add some amazing pieces and then you
bring in some amazing coaches as well, and you you
kind of combine the two a woman, and you get
the result that we have right now. You know, our
coaches work harder than you know, anybody that I've ever seen.
So you know, they're in that building longer than anybody.
You know, the first one's in, last to leave. I
think that's kind of their mentality. And you know it's
been it's been preaching results and you're seeing that on
(10:17):
the weekend right now. So you know, we're lucky to
have that group of men in there.
Speaker 4 (10:20):
Is what Vic Fangio defensive coordinators is asking the defensive
backs safety nickelback in particular, to do different significantly than
what last year's defensive responsibilities were.
Speaker 5 (10:33):
I mean, it's very similar. Not to get in the
scheme or anything.
Speaker 6 (10:38):
Yeah, it's very similar, but it's there's only different defenses. Different, no,
for sure, very similar, but different. You know, it's coached
a lot differently different techniques. So I mean they're doing
a great job, you know. You see you see the
young guys out there balling right now, and the entire
secondary of the linebackers, you know, Zach Bond with two turnovers.
Speaker 5 (10:55):
Five five takeaways in total.
Speaker 6 (10:56):
I mean those are numbers that you can't even Yeah,
it's insane. So I mean, as you see week to week,
we just keep getting better and better.
Speaker 5 (11:04):
And yeah, that's just.
Speaker 4 (11:06):
And the great thing is it is it has been
a turnover on the defense really since it's twenty twenty
two Super Bowl team. Like you look, and Slay is
still there in the secondary. CJ is a young, younger veteran,
but like it's you, it's Blanket Ship, it's Tristan, it's
the two rookies, it's who else. I guess Rogers is
(11:27):
new to the team but not new to the league.
It's Eli, it's if I experienced, But there's such a
turnover there at linebacker. It's Nakobe in his third year,
it's Bond in his first year here, and I think
it's fourth or fifth year in the league. Up front,
you're getting played from young guys Like this defense, Gerald
has well defense we're talking.
Speaker 1 (11:46):
About on the other side, guys.
Speaker 4 (11:49):
Yeah, but it is a defensive is it is a
defensive turnaround, and it's good drafting, it's good quality additions.
That how he has been very creative identifying that Zach Bond,
who played very little in New Orleans, could come in
here and fit a great role and thrive in Vic's
(12:09):
defense in Philly. Like that's and that you that you
have confidence in Nikobe and that you draft Jeremiah to
back up Nikobe and to be like it's just it's
all really impressive because you don't see that in many
teams in the NFL, where you can turn over the
roster and still have success. Gerald, I couldn't agree with you.
(12:31):
He's focused on him right now.
Speaker 1 (12:32):
He did but well as he should be.
Speaker 4 (12:35):
As he should be.
Speaker 3 (12:35):
But so I want to take it back a year
and we got off to you know, folowing up a
Super Bowl to ten in one season. It's your rookie year,
so you have no comparison. You're probably feeling pretty good
about it. I was feeling good about it. A lot
of people in the Delaware Valley weren't and things then
went bad. So but this season is building more than
starting good and invading. This one seems like it's going
(12:56):
the opposite direction. Talk to me about the different feeling about.
Speaker 5 (13:00):
This year is filled up the eels versus last year's.
Speaker 6 (13:02):
I mean, I think there's a confidence and a swagger
that we got right now that's just been infectious game
to game, and I think as you just look at
it from week to week, we just keep getting better
and better, you know, to fixing the mistakes, making sure
that we're not being repeat defenders. And again, I mean
we're getting pushed by the coaches every single week and
you know they're putting us in the right situation to
(13:23):
make those plays.
Speaker 5 (13:23):
And again like you can't you can't be.
Speaker 6 (13:27):
I mean, we we got the experience on the field,
but when you bring the confidence in, that swagger and
the intensity out there, I mean, it's it's a whole
other game.
Speaker 5 (13:34):
I think that's what were lack of it. And by
the way, this is not even close to being done yet.
Speaker 4 (13:37):
Like I think one thing we have to do is
pull back a little bit on the on the accolades
because they're really nine games into the season, right and
there's a huge game on Thursday night, And I think
that what Sydney is saying is the right mentality is
to go game play to play game to game, day
to day like it is. There's the the mission is
far from accomplished. Is that kind of I think?
Speaker 6 (13:58):
I think the worst thing you can do is get
too far ahead or start, you know, wishing that you
could have done something in the past.
Speaker 5 (14:04):
That's just about what you can do in the moment
right now.
Speaker 6 (14:06):
And that's again, that's that's that's when tomorrow, it's Tuesday.
Speaker 5 (14:09):
We gotta focus and make sure.
Speaker 6 (14:11):
We're being the best version ourselves on Tuesday and then
on Wednesday, and then damn we play on Thursday.
Speaker 5 (14:15):
So you know, we gotta we gotta keep building like that.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
And I'm not holding anything against you one way the
other in the answer, do you even know who you're
playing the following week?
Speaker 1 (14:22):
Are you just so focused on this week?
Speaker 3 (14:25):
And I got to be honest, And that's day that's
that is keeping the matter that's right in front of
you as the focus and worrying about that when Thursday
comes and hopefully you'll have a great another great win
and be able to take a few days off and
then and then you can relax and start preparing. But
so so as we look at what happened yesterday, and
(14:45):
you don't see many philadelph Eagle annihilations of the Cowboys
in downs.
Speaker 1 (14:49):
It had been like seventy years since, say.
Speaker 4 (14:51):
Since twenty seventeen, since the Eagles had won in downs.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
Weren't even born yet the Cowboys were.
Speaker 4 (14:55):
The Cowboys were seventeen and one in their last eighteen
home games against NFCUS to Pons. So no matter what
they rent that they weren't good teams all. I mean,
they were like they just playing in Dallas is something
that really works for the Cowboys.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
So how about you guys, as the Philadelphiagles go down there,
and I know everywhere you go there's green in the stands,
and you hear those Philadelphia fans. By the end of
the game, it had to be all Philadelphia fans in
the building, straight Philly fans.
Speaker 5 (15:20):
But I mean, at the end of the day, who
cares about statistics.
Speaker 6 (15:22):
If they were seventeen and whatever back in you know,
nineteen whatever, that doesn't matter.
Speaker 1 (15:27):
Yesterday they were walked in four. Yeah, they were zero
to one.
Speaker 3 (15:30):
Yesterday, and that's all that matters, and you were wanted
out going back.
Speaker 4 (15:33):
So Gerald, you're you're sitting in there, what were your
expectations as a fan watching the game? You know how
the rest of the day went. Eagles, Cowboys backup quarterback?
What are you thinking as a fan getting ready for
that game? Here's the problem I have in my view
of the Phildelphi Eagles. I always think they're going to win.
Speaker 3 (15:51):
And I mean that there hasn't been a time that
you've taken the field as a team in a long
time where I didn't we do, and so I always
feel good and look at the game just outside objectively,
there's no way I felt that team could play with you. Now,
it's an NFL game and anything can happen, and we
see bad teams be good teams all the time, so
you wanted to see it. But Dave, I went in
(16:12):
supremely confident, and even when things didn't go particularly great
early on, I still knew that you weren't going to
lose to the team. At least that's how it fell
from the outside eye. When I say I knew, I
mean I didn't really know. But by the same time
and that's what it felt like, and it looked like
that's what it felt like to you guys as a team.
Speaker 6 (16:29):
For sure, Snap by snap, play by play. I mean,
it's not always going to go your way. It's all
about how you respond.
Speaker 3 (16:34):
There's one point on that day before that I was
pretty true and well that is that both a strange
sport in that you've got these three different units and
the offense, defense, and special teams. Obviously right now you're
playing a big part of the special teams as well
as the defense. Sometimes there can be a separation of
the two.
Speaker 1 (16:52):
I've seen it with clubs.
Speaker 3 (16:53):
I've been in lockeros, I've been as sidelines where the
offensive defense a kind of at each other's so when
one is dominating, one's not. Now aparrently, Jalen hurts only
offensive end.
Speaker 1 (17:02):
You're a team leader walked down.
Speaker 3 (17:04):
After the offense didn't maybe play its part early on
and said, hey, we got you appreciated.
Speaker 1 (17:08):
I don't know exactly what the words were, but were
you there?
Speaker 3 (17:11):
And Jay will do that, and that to me is
what real leadership and bringing a team together is about,
for sure.
Speaker 6 (17:16):
I mean, and he's he's the one. I mean, he's
he's the one that speaks to us before every game.
He's the one that kind of has those moments. But
you know, he's somebody.
Speaker 5 (17:23):
That he's got that I mean, what do you call it, or.
Speaker 4 (17:26):
To him, he's got that swagger, that swagger to speaking.
Speaker 5 (17:31):
The ra that's something like that he's gonna have. He
means action. It's not. It's not like he's just saying that.
He means action every single time.
Speaker 4 (17:37):
So and it all turned around a fun like you're
watching you're on the side offensive if you look at
the sideline, and I know you're not.
Speaker 5 (17:45):
You're focus on the players on the field when you're
watching the game.
Speaker 6 (17:47):
But if you see the sideline, you see everybody up,
I mean even the defensive guys watching the offense making
sure that we're supporting. I mean, everybody's everybody's tuned in,
everybody is excited for one another.
Speaker 5 (17:58):
And there's no anem obviously too.
Speaker 1 (18:00):
So compare for me if you can, and I don't.
Speaker 3 (18:02):
I'm not taking any shots at twenty twenty three Philadelphias,
But is there a different feeling around this team?
Speaker 1 (18:10):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (18:10):
One hundred percent.
Speaker 4 (18:11):
No, one hundred percent.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
And again, I just I think it's just weak to
week and I keep saying this year, I mean.
Speaker 6 (18:18):
Like will be very proud if he's listening. We just
keep getting better and better and the confidence keeps building.
And that's what it's about.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
I think it's just a young vibe, like a young, energetic,
having fun vibe. Not that they didn't have that fun
vibe last year, but like when you come off with
Super Bowl, you play so much football, you're so crushed
emotionally after losing the Super Bowl, it takes some time.
Even when we were winning last year, guys were talking
about like, yeah we won, like but we weren't didn't
play well. Yeah we won, but nobody's saying that.
Speaker 5 (18:48):
This year.
Speaker 4 (18:49):
Everybody's just like, let's go win. And as as Sidney
was talking about, the core value of connection is so
strong with Nick competing accountability fundamentals football, like you, this
football team gets better and better in all of those
in all of those areas. And Dave, if you.
Speaker 3 (19:05):
Look at the history of the Phildelphi Eagles, I mean,
what has happened is historic. It's been since I think
nineteen forty nine, that was Dave's freshman year in high school.
Speaker 4 (19:14):
But Gerald Advisor.
Speaker 3 (19:19):
The Eagles won back to back championships, Say forty eight
and forty nine, just give me a little history.
Speaker 1 (19:24):
And I think it was forty nine.
Speaker 3 (19:26):
Since Eagles have had three straight twenty plus point victories
on the road, it just doesn't happen one time, let
alone happened three straight times. It's just so rare to
watch a game where the starters are pulled out for
the fourth quarter and all those things, and that is
a that's that's an attitude and an execution. To me,
that's a little bit different than just winning by one point.
(19:47):
Even though we always come on here and we believe.
Speaker 1 (19:49):
This very much. There's no ugly victories. A win is
a win. But it's really.
Speaker 3 (19:53):
Special what you guys are doing to your opponents, especially
on the road.
Speaker 5 (19:56):
I appreciate that.
Speaker 6 (19:57):
Yeah, I mean it's it's been I mean, yesterday was domination.
But I don't think anybody satisfied with the performance.
Speaker 5 (20:02):
I think we're just gonna keep building.
Speaker 6 (20:04):
And then, I mean you look at the you look
at our guys going, you know who's filling in for
those I mean, I guess you could call a garbage time,
but you know they didn't forget that. What I mean,
like it wasn't like the really dropped off, you know
what I mean. You know, we finish out the game.
It's not like Dallas went down and scuored on our defense.
You know, we took care of business business and did
what we needed to do. And I think that just
(20:26):
shows that it's it's I mean, if if someone does
go down, I mean, the next man's ready to go
just at that same level.
Speaker 4 (20:31):
Hey, you had eight rep late. Were they your first
defensive reps since you've come back? No?
Speaker 5 (20:36):
I mean so I went in there a little bit
against New York New York first week?
Speaker 1 (20:41):
How did how is it?
Speaker 4 (20:42):
A couple of feelings? Like how like I don't know
if you guys watched film today or did the grades
yesterday or whatever, Like, how did you feel is it?
Are you? Do you feel like you're back where you
were better than where you were in the position. Certainly
in special teams, you're you and Keiley are killing it
as gunners. How about from a from the safety position?
Speaker 5 (21:01):
Yeah, I mean, like we we got we got two
safeties are now plays some really good football.
Speaker 6 (21:05):
So you know, I'm just right now, I'm just focused
on being the you know, the best third safety I
can be to you know, help back them up in
any way, be their biggest supporters and knows all my
role for what it is, and obviously got a lot
of respect for what they do and the leadership that
they bring.
Speaker 5 (21:17):
But you know, I uh yeah, I mean my role
is what it is, you know what I mean?
Speaker 4 (21:21):
But from you fit like just big, big instinctually and
absolutely I think.
Speaker 6 (21:25):
I mean I haven't played football in a while, but
I do think if if I'm out there, I mean
I feel great, I really do.
Speaker 5 (21:30):
I really do think if I if.
Speaker 6 (21:31):
If the opportunity comes in, that situation comes, I mean,
I'll be ready for whatever it is. So you know,
I prepare every week like I am starting and uh again,
I just I'm I'm ready for whatever.
Speaker 4 (21:42):
And this team, as you said, like the when the
reserves come in, there is no drop off, and you
see it at so many positions. Left tackle Fred Johnson,
Tyler Stein, right guard say Johan Dotson making plays with
a wide receiver gain Well and Shipley making plays at
running back position, on the defensive side of the ball, cornerback.
(22:03):
All the way through these these the reserves are in
position and making plays, and that is the sign of
a team that has been well drafted, well developed, and
really really well coached and working together in the scheme.
I mean, I think this team is really on the
way up. Well, Dave, I a tough game on Thursday, Man,
I respect the Washington's done.
Speaker 3 (22:24):
And they look great and they but for a really
you know, a couple of crazy plays at the end
of that game would be coming in here at eight
and two.
Speaker 1 (22:33):
But instead they're seven to three.
Speaker 3 (22:34):
We don't mind that for sure. I mean, listen, we
got a couple things against them. First of all, they're
in your division to Washington Commanders. Think where the Redskins.
For years, this has always been a rivalry, and of
course that any NFC East game is. But they're also
owned by Josh Harris.
Speaker 1 (22:48):
Do you know that you know who that is?
Speaker 5 (22:50):
Owns the Sexes?
Speaker 1 (22:50):
Correct, and it bothers the heck out of me.
Speaker 3 (22:52):
You went and bought our rivals and the New Jersey
Devils and the Washington Commanders.
Speaker 1 (22:56):
So let's go.
Speaker 3 (22:56):
Let's go stick it to Josh Harrison. I'm not happy
with the job because the Sixers owner either so.
Speaker 4 (23:03):
Much he cares one bit that Gerald Coulton's upset that
you know what if he.
Speaker 3 (23:08):
If he's listening right now, he pulled overbody, give a
you know what it's you know, I want to I
want to echo something Dave said and then and then
we'll take a break. But one of the just so
so those listening in case they don't know, you suffered
an A C L tear on that awful turf at
(23:29):
met Life Stadium last year against the Giants.
Speaker 1 (23:32):
Now you're shaking your head. Yes, did the turf have
something to do with it?
Speaker 6 (23:36):
I mean, I want to say so, yeah. I mean,
I mean I played on turf all my life, and
I did. I used to think the ACL was like
the genetic thing and like it was never going to
be me, and then it happened.
Speaker 5 (23:47):
I'm like, oh my god, I couldn't believe it.
Speaker 6 (23:49):
But again, I mean I think, I think there's definitely
some work that could be done. But again, it just
it happened on that specific day for a reason, and
it was.
Speaker 1 (23:57):
My situation and it used to be. I mean, listen,
back in the day of David and I high school days.
Speaker 4 (24:03):
It was a crazy.
Speaker 3 (24:05):
Because because I know, I know you're so sensitive to it,
and that's what I got embrace that, I got the
gray hair. It is what it is.
Speaker 1 (24:14):
Nothing I can do, but you could shave it.
Speaker 4 (24:17):
Look look way, younger, Is that what you do?
Speaker 3 (24:22):
Those long locks? You give up anyway? I guess I
could diet too, but that's not me anyway. It used
to be clear any then it became a calendar year
at least, and you were back obviously within ten months
even sooner, but ready to play back on the NFL
field in ten months. But what I've heard from all athletes,
you go through that stuff, maybe the hardest thing is
(24:43):
the mental to really trust your knee and go out
there and can I do this again?
Speaker 1 (24:48):
How much was that and has that been a part
of it for you?
Speaker 5 (24:51):
Absolutely?
Speaker 4 (24:52):
I think.
Speaker 6 (24:52):
I think the one thing that you know, everybody gets
mistaken for is like you think it's gonna come back
and it's going to feel exactly like it did before,
so you For me, it was just getting used to
what the new new like, then what minutity feels like. Right,
It's not gonna feel great.
Speaker 5 (25:05):
It's not gonna be you.
Speaker 6 (25:06):
Know what I mean, But you gotta you gotta be
able to go out there and test it out and
trust that it's strong enough that the graft healed all
the way through. And again for me, it's every week
I start getting more comfortable with it. And I mean
we're we're still talking where we about ten months out now.
But again it's crazy, it's weak to week. You you
kinda you kinda you feel a little bit better. I mean,
(25:27):
I took off the brace, so I'm not wearing that
clunky thing on the field anymore.
Speaker 5 (25:30):
So I'm opening up there. But again, you just gotta
you gotta trust it.
Speaker 6 (25:33):
You gotta break that barrier and understand that what the
new new is what then what the new field is
on that knee.
Speaker 4 (25:40):
Well, Sidney came out of his rehab and he's like,
I leep and crushed this. I crushed this and and
like even from the very start with such a positive attitude,
and given his background, we understand why all of that
is why Sydney Brown is sitting here today. Great football player,
great young man, super bright present and even brighter future.
Let's talk about it after the break, Gerald, because Sidney's
(26:03):
one of my favorite guys that have ever encountered in
my thirty years with the Philadelphia Eagles, and I really
appreciate it.
Speaker 1 (26:08):
And you know, you know how strong that is. By
the way thirty years.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
In thirty years, I mean there's over a thousand players,
maybe more since you've been there.
Speaker 1 (26:15):
And to say, one of his all time favorites, it's.
Speaker 4 (26:18):
But none of the mad a high school picture like
that he broke out, he.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
Broke out his barried van, a little look from his
high school. Is that a cave etching or was that
actually photography?
Speaker 4 (26:36):
That's a good one, Gerald, I'll give you credit on
that one.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
But anyway, listen, we've only just begun, even though we
will be back, and we have only just begun with
Sidney Brown. We've been tracing yesterday and the feeling of
this Philadelphia Eagles team. We're gonna take a look back
just how you got here. We did it last time
you hear, but just it's a story worth retelling. And
then a look ahead, of course to Thursday nights and
(27:00):
you're listening to the All Pro Philly Players Show. Dave
Spadaro and Gerald called him with our special guest, Sidney
Brown or Fox Sports to Gambler.
Speaker 2 (27:08):
Spreads totals and all the prop that's in the twins,
it's the Gambler.
Speaker 1 (27:24):
Gosh, look that.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Welcome back to chickens and feet to the All Pro
Philly Players show. We are live from Chickens and Pizza, Marlton,
New Jersey, as we are every Monday. Got to give
a shout out to Pete Cherokee and his fine staff here.
They do such a great job hosting us and they
are the place where the players go, like our guest
Sidney Brown and the rest of the Eagles. It is
just a fabulous place to come for both food, drink, watch,
(27:53):
sport events.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
Has a Monday night game tonight and good ones.
Speaker 4 (27:57):
So Miami with Tua in the lineup against the Rams
now the Rams, Sydney can cover your ears here. We
play the Rams in two weeks. Good team, good offense.
This stretch of games here Washington Rams Ravens really challenging
for the Eagles.
Speaker 3 (28:12):
We're only worried about Thursday night in the Washington communities.
But you're right and a good chance to check out,
you know, the the upcoming competition and Miami has had
an interesting season and that they had high hopes going
into the season.
Speaker 4 (28:24):
Tool gets hurt and bamed there. He's amazing, right, Sidney's
we're up there watching Kelsey. Do see one of the
things I'll.
Speaker 3 (28:30):
Tell you Sidney's point to the to the TV screen
here and showing Jason Kelsey.
Speaker 4 (28:36):
One of the things about Sydney that's really impressive is
like he he immediately came to Philly and he got it,
and it's a very He's got a very natural way
about him that indeed to people, to fans, to everyone,
and there's not a lot of players who do that.
And like Jason had that six round draft pick, has
always been nice to people, always been big in the community,
(28:57):
never said no when the organization leaned on him for
things as Sidney does. And that's and happen to be
a six time Pro Bowl player, All Pro That stuff
comes back to you, man, and Sydney gets that. And
I wonder city, like, as we can talk about you,
where does that come from? Is it something you've had
to work on? You know, what are your feelings about
being an NFL player? You just truly appreciate life and
(29:19):
the good things you have going on.
Speaker 6 (29:20):
I mean, I mean obviously blessed by opportunity, how to
how to I mean my family obviously it was like
my rock bring me up. But I mean it took
everybody to get us here, you know, our billet family
out in Brandon, Florida.
Speaker 3 (29:34):
You know what, I will go slower on that because
because it's so it's so worthwhile. Start with your mother
and then explain what a bill it is and what
that person did for you for those who don't know
your story.
Speaker 6 (29:44):
Yeah, I mean, so to kind of backtrack on that,
like for those of you who watched it, the YouTube
videos about fifteen minutes that the NFL network did on
my brother, very worthwhile. Yeah, no, if you have a second,
I think it's it's inspiring in some eyes, you know,
and so they know.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
Also your twin brother is just starting running back for
Cincinnati Bengals, so you played a few weeks back.
Speaker 5 (30:01):
And we'll get into that too, because that's got sweet.
Speaker 6 (30:04):
But yeah, no, I mean obviously had a single mother
who had us when she when she was about eighteen
years old. Our father figure was there a little bit,
but you know, we really got that with my uncle
and my grandfather and they were really like our father
figure growing up. And you know, my grandma was really
our rock and made sure that she we were in
sports and doing stuff, and you know, doing stuff athletic
(30:25):
not got so we're at home playing video games, you know,
out on the street doing some messed up stuff, but.
Speaker 5 (30:31):
Didn't have a lot, but we were very thankful for
what we had.
Speaker 6 (30:33):
And you know, when we were about twelve years old,
my mom got really sick after having my sister, which
led to her having an autoimmune disease, and it kind
of did a toll and her. You know what I mean,
You see this woman with all this life, and I
mean she had everything, had a great job, you know,
going to we felt like she had everything, and just
seeing that kind of sucked away from her suck. But
you know, for four years she kind of battled that,
(30:55):
and then we were when we were sixteen, you know,
everything kind of fumbled and you know, we were living
out homeless shelter, kind of bouncing around school to school,
from house to house, trying to figure out a spot.
But you know, specifically being in that homeless shelter, an
opportunity open for us to go to Brandon, Florida, and uh,
you know, a family opened up their arms and you know,
allowed us to come in and ye know, honestly, from
(31:15):
there the rest.
Speaker 5 (31:15):
Is history, you know what I mean. You go from
you know, you know, go from.
Speaker 6 (31:20):
You know, just just your understanding of what success is
and what it takes to get there, and uh, totally
being flipped and understanding that you know, these two that
that we can do it, and you know, talking about
probably not even graduating high school, if not college, you know,
to being a high school graduate from a really prestigious
high school and then you know, graduating college and no
(31:40):
obviously being selected in the third round by the Philadelphia
Eagles and kind of having everything follow through. But you know,
we just just the just the the change of events
and everything that happened, and like the last ten years
for my brother and I just kind of flipped our
entire entire life, and you know, now we're able to
provide for our family and kind of get back to
what they sacrifice for us.
Speaker 4 (31:58):
Since Sydney writes down as a I don't know if
the whiteboard and everyone on the way out of his
home writes down goals, and he told me a story
about how in his before his last year Illinois, wrote
down three goals. Be a top five safety in the
class you remember, be a first team All Big Ten,
and then be a third round draft pick in the NFL.
(32:19):
All three of them came true. You wrote, out of
what age before a senior year.
Speaker 6 (32:23):
Yeah, before my senior year, so just in my last
year in college, and its manifested. I think that's just
what my brother and I believed, and we believe in
each other, and obviously that relationship that I share with him,
and you know how competitive we are with one another.
Speaker 5 (32:35):
I think that obviously bread a lot.
Speaker 6 (32:36):
But you know, you know, two kids from Canada who
you know, almost work I graduated high school, made it through,
and we're just doing We're supposed to do, nothing more,
nothing less, and I think the best is yet to come.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
So the today's and so few people from Canada making
the jump from Canada to the NFL is meteoric. People
don't understand that. And there is a Canyan Football League,
but it's a very different game. And I'm an agent,
and I just got contacted last week by real nice
mother reaching out to me on behalf of her son
who's playing college football up there, and says, I believe
(33:10):
he can be an offensive line in the NFL. So
I said, we'll send me, you know, send me some
bio two hundred and sixty five pounds.
Speaker 4 (33:17):
People don't.
Speaker 5 (33:19):
People just don't six to one oh. People just don't
understand what it takes to be in the national ball No, no,
it's a totally different game.
Speaker 4 (33:27):
I got to be honest.
Speaker 5 (33:29):
I'm not saying that there is a talent there. There's
definitely talent.
Speaker 6 (33:32):
It's just you know, there's not a lot of people
that have done it, you know what I mean, have
been to the NFL, who have had high level coaching
in the n C and double A or high school
leaving you know, so you know, it's hard for people
to really grasp what it's like and understand what it
takes to get there. So yeah, I think my brother
and I have a mission, you know, especially when we're
done playing and just even now, to inspire young Canadians
(33:52):
that want.
Speaker 5 (33:54):
To do it that they can do it.
Speaker 4 (33:55):
When you play young, when you play, when you when
you played when you were young, you know the rest. Yeah, yeah,
I actually know a lot of that. I love that
national anthem. When you played as a kid, like you
play Canadian rules and then you had to transition to
American football les.
Speaker 6 (34:10):
Yeah, so listen, it's kind of whack. We play on
a Canadian field, so you know how that you know that, Yeah,
the end zone is twenty yards. Yeah, but you play
American rules, So so you play not the three times
so I mean scrap that. I mean, you play four
down football with Canadian rules, so you're able to you know,
pund out the back of.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
The end zone and get points and do all the
wild It doesn't change the running the basics running, you know, tackling, catching, blocking, right, Yeah, well,
I mean if you look I mean, I don't know
if you look at the I mean as a dB,
this is why I look at but you see the
wide receivers, they can know whatever they want.
Speaker 6 (34:47):
Emotion you can have, you can you can run back.
You have everybody running a motion at the same time
at the line of scrimmage. You can run straight to
the It makes sense.
Speaker 1 (34:54):
Can you imagine had his speed?
Speaker 3 (34:56):
But I also did on that note of kicking out
of the end zone, I watched game this year where
there's a missfield going a Thaie game right.
Speaker 1 (35:02):
At the end, but it went out of the end zone.
Speaker 3 (35:05):
So they start selling because they won by one point
on a missed field.
Speaker 5 (35:09):
It doesn't even make sense.
Speaker 4 (35:11):
That that's an American but that is who invented Canadian football,
And like was it before American football? Like why are
the rules? So why don't they just a dance?
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Actually, that's a great question. That's something I don't have
the answer to it. But I don't understand why. I mean,
why three downs? You think about an offensive?
Speaker 3 (35:30):
No offense to your great country, which I really do love.
I'm a big hockey fan and spend a lot of
time there. But my guess is a couple of drunk
guys around a bar and in Canada throwing down the bats.
Speaker 5 (35:43):
Blue actually labats is from the whole town you like.
Speaker 1 (35:46):
A little love La, the hometown of I didn't know that.
Speaker 4 (35:50):
When did it click?
Speaker 6 (35:51):
So he?
Speaker 4 (35:51):
When did it all click? When did you think? Really like?
You and Chase? Were you both equally great players all
along the way? I mean, I mean yeah, I mean
we're both very good at what we did, but I
mean we weren't. We weren't really great football players until
we were exposed to the American game.
Speaker 5 (36:08):
Honestly, until we're not.
Speaker 6 (36:11):
I don't want to call you so we're we're good
football players, work going to be great and always striving
to be better than what we are.
Speaker 4 (36:17):
But you're in the NFL, You're you're great. But yeah,
we're gonna get there. All of a suddenly, looking at
an environment where you're you're exposed.
Speaker 6 (36:26):
I'll be honest, Like my my first time being in
the States watching watching the football game. I mean I'm
not playing the biggest and baddest football. I mean I'm
playing I'm playing high school.
Speaker 4 (36:35):
Football, you know what I mean.
Speaker 5 (36:36):
But I'm watching that and the hits, the guys running
around the field. I'm like, oh my.
Speaker 4 (36:40):
God, private school football football. Now we made it out
of it. We made it up.
Speaker 6 (36:49):
But I mean I was watching that like, I don't
know if we're gonna make it, but I mean we
we always believed in what we did and I don't
think we've really ever had another option.
Speaker 5 (36:57):
There was no plan B.
Speaker 1 (36:59):
It was alway.
Speaker 5 (37:00):
It was always we were gonna make it. It was
always and we were we were delusional.
Speaker 6 (37:03):
I mean we were we were delusional, Like we were
always delusional about success. We were always delusion all about
our goals and it's all I mean, we're still delusionable
what we want to do. But so it's it's again,
and we made it happen.
Speaker 3 (37:15):
So the odds against what you accomplished are astronomical and
and I can't understand you, but you made a come
Trio and the whiteboard and all the things.
Speaker 5 (37:24):
It shows that anyone can make their dream come trill.
Speaker 3 (37:27):
But but I want to talk to you about being
a twin and and an identical twin of I'm sure
he's your best friend as well and going through this
upbringing together. I guess he's not your best friend when
you played the Cincinnti Bengals, but otherwise, at least at
least during those sixty minutes. But how because you guys
have the same DNA completely and I've seen him and
you know it's idemic, we looked a little bit of like,
(37:48):
so how did you separate positions? Where you became a
d back he became a running back? Was it just
you want to tackle him and he had the ball?
And how did that happen?
Speaker 6 (37:56):
That's a great story. So, I mean I was actually
the running back first, I was tote in the rock.
Speaker 5 (38:00):
He was the safety.
Speaker 6 (38:00):
He actually played defensive line when we were younger, And
there was a summer that I mean, I just I
ended up sitting out because I didn't really want to play,
and he ended up taking over the running back position
and then it went from there. So you know, my
mom's always always she always wanted us to compete against
each other, but she never wanted us competing with the
same position.
Speaker 5 (38:18):
So you know, when he went to running back, I
went to.
Speaker 6 (38:20):
Receiver, played a little bit of dB, and then as
I went through high school, played.
Speaker 5 (38:24):
Both and then obviously safety and college.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
And just one thing about your mother before Dave. Dave
chimes in, and that is your mother did beat that illness,
right for sure.
Speaker 5 (38:33):
I mean, it is something she's got to deal with.
She's still you know, it's it's something she's dealing. It's her.
Speaker 6 (38:37):
She she doesn't want anybody feeling bad for her. She's
still dealing with it a little bit, but she is
in much better position now than she was in the past.
Speaker 1 (38:43):
And she is the real hero of this story.
Speaker 4 (38:46):
She's amazing.
Speaker 6 (38:47):
I mean, there's there's a lot of people you could
call here on this story, like my grandma. I mean,
she was She played a big role in making sure
that you know, we had our things and you know,
our clothes on our back and book bags and cleats
to play and gloves. So but yeah, I mean my mom,
my mom, My mom did an amazing job. She she
(39:07):
sacrificed a lot, she let go of a lot to
make this dream happen for both my brother and I
will be forever grateful. You know, there's there's I don't
even know if I'll ever be able to repair, so
you don't have to you already, I mean like you'll
never be.
Speaker 5 (39:21):
Able to repair for what she did. So I mean,
it's it's it's amazing.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
I love her.
Speaker 5 (39:25):
I love her with everything.
Speaker 4 (39:26):
Sidney. The safety position, let's talk about it. What is
it required to be great? What are the physical skills,
what are the mental skills? What are the biggest challenges
that you face on a daily basis playing this this
hybrid position that has changed so much over the course
of time in the NFL. Yeah, I mean I think
you you got to be instinctual.
Speaker 6 (39:45):
One.
Speaker 5 (39:45):
I think you gotta have the instincts to be able
to react to what you see.
Speaker 6 (39:48):
And then, obviously, I think more than anything, I think
you got to understand what you're doing because you're you're
really like, in a lot.
Speaker 5 (39:54):
Of ways, the quarterback of the of the defense.
Speaker 6 (39:57):
So you gotta get guys aligne make sure that you
understand the entire scheme and where you can fit because
a lot of the time, you know, if somebody's missing
their gap.
Speaker 5 (40:03):
You got to make them right when you kind of
fill down in the box.
Speaker 6 (40:05):
So I mean, you want to talk about you got
to be a jack of all tradzy, I'll be able
to play come down and play in the box as
the linebacker, and then be able to play in the
post and sometimes cover like a corner in the slot.
So yeah, I mean, I think if you've got all
three of those. But again, I think a better understanding instinctual,
smart respect the game for what it's about.
Speaker 5 (40:24):
I think I think that's how you become a great safety.
Speaker 6 (40:26):
And obviously you know have that have that physical, physical
aggression and want to to come down and make the
tackle and you know, just.
Speaker 5 (40:35):
Be relentless.
Speaker 4 (40:36):
Oh you break the huddle? What are you looking at
the entire offensive?
Speaker 6 (40:42):
I mean, so I think I think, I mean, you
look at the entire formation for what it is, but
you're really just looking at you know, because I mean
a lot of a lot of the time what these
offenses do is they they build different formations, but they're
doing a lot of the same things out of these formations.
Or they'll start in one formation, they motion to the
formation they're just trying to get to run a certain
route concepts. So I think if you just recognize, you know,
(41:02):
if that's three by one and two by two concepts,
and you know what potentially you could get off of splits,
and you know understanding if you know you read your
key and what kind of gap seam you're gonna get
in the run game. And I think, I think, I
think if you understand that as a whole and you
don't get too caught up in all the all the
window dressing and emotions like that, but just understand what
the picture is and can focus on that and just
(41:24):
react there and read your keys from there, I think
that's all time.
Speaker 4 (41:27):
How do you not cheat your eyes and watch to
peek into the backfield too much?
Speaker 6 (41:31):
I mean, I think it's it's pretty easy too. I
mean I think I find myself faulty of that a lot.
But I think you just gotta you don't want to overthink.
I think that's the biggest thing. That's what I kind
of appreciate to myself in college and even now I
write it down my notebook every day. You know, I
think therefore I miss I say that isn't like I
think therefore I miss opportunity. I miss what's in front
of me. I'm I'm I make a mistake because I
(41:53):
just I thought too much. So I just try and
I try and see a little and turn that into
a lot and just see what I need to see
and then react from there.
Speaker 5 (42:00):
Because I think that's going to bring into the ball.
Speaker 1 (42:02):
Before we take our last break.
Speaker 5 (42:05):
You actually have one highlight from the outside.
Speaker 1 (42:07):
Maybe every play is a highlight. I'm not minimizing it.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
But last week, tight game with Jacksonville, tighter than it
probably should have been, ended up with w again for
one of these five straight philadelph Eagles wins. But you
had a big play and talk about that forcing a
fumble and special teams. It really was a momentum changer.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (42:25):
I mean, listen, I feel like I could do that
every single play. I feel like I could come down
there make an impact every single time. So I mean,
you best bet when I'm running down as a gunner,
I'm looking to make a big time impack fit on
that returner. So there's just a matter of time. And
if they do decide to keep that ball, you know
you got two gunners like myself and the rest of
(42:45):
the punt Union coming down.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
To take your head off. So I mean, that's tremendous.
And we always talk about all three phases. The coaches
I know do and they all contribute, and your special
teams have been a big part of the success of
this team this year.
Speaker 1 (42:57):
I mean, you're great in all the face and it
takes all three face to win the football game.
Speaker 5 (43:00):
And we're doing a great job.
Speaker 6 (43:01):
We got a great punner, we got I mean, we
got some of the trio that we got right now
with you know, Brandon Jake and you know Rick Rotta.
Speaker 3 (43:08):
Everybody's going to the operation. It's insane, all right, But
I didn't want to go this way, but you mentioned it.
How hard is it to play guner in the NFL
where they're trying to beat you up the whole way
down the field, You're running at least forty to fifty
yards downfield, you're you don't know exactly where the ball is.
You got to hit somebody. And then the times where
(43:29):
you then have to turn around and play defense right
after the play's over. Yeah, I mean, it's it's a
quick turnaround. So, I mean, you're that's actually happened this
week when I got in at the end of the game.
Speaker 6 (43:38):
But I was You're winded, just trying to gather your
thoughts and be like, Okay, that's over.
Speaker 5 (43:44):
Okay, what do I need to focus on?
Speaker 4 (43:45):
Now?
Speaker 6 (43:46):
What do I got to see? But I mean it's
I love playing gunner. It's something that I kind of
embraced in college and you know, just that role. You know,
I get really crafty with it. But I also have
a great coach with Tyler Brown. He's doing a great
job coaching us up and making sure that we're getting
down the field.
Speaker 5 (44:00):
Then, I mean, you want to talk about so many.
Speaker 6 (44:01):
That's obsessed with special teams and obsessed with being just
a great gunner coach, special teams coach. That's that's Tyler
Brown and honestly our entire special teams around with Michael Clay.
Speaker 3 (44:12):
All Right, we are at Chicky's and Pete's in Marlton,
New Jersey. Do you know who comes from Wilton, New Jersey?
Speaker 4 (44:18):
The great Tyler Brown.
Speaker 1 (44:20):
Tyler Brown star at Cherokee. He's going Wylton, New Jersey.
Speaker 5 (44:24):
His father.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
One of the bathrooms was named after him. Yeah, just
for a good time. No, it's.
Speaker 6 (44:32):
Here.
Speaker 4 (44:32):
I'm sure he's not hung out here.
Speaker 6 (44:33):
Man.
Speaker 4 (44:33):
When he's not, when he's trying to be a good
golfer when he's trying, when he's you know, coming to
friends where he's coming.
Speaker 3 (44:39):
And his father was the mayor of this town, Marleton.
And he's a special teams at least kicking coach as
social special teams coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
Speaker 5 (44:46):
So he's royalty here.
Speaker 1 (44:49):
That's Marlton, New Jersey. Do you know what They don't
let their coaches talk like that.
Speaker 4 (44:55):
That's because they work all the time. I mean coaches
tier working right now.
Speaker 3 (44:59):
Yeah, But we love, we love Tyler Tooon. I'm glad
he's doing such a great job as a coach here.
And this guy's the limit for that guy, there's no
question about. So we are a Chicken Pizza Marlton, New
Jersey for the All Pro Philly Players Show. We are
with our special guest, Sydney Brown. We're gonna come back
and look forward to the watching and Commanders on Thursday,
Gerald Calton, Dave Berero, Sydney Brown.
Speaker 5 (45:18):
We'll be back on Fox Sports a gamy.
Speaker 1 (45:21):
You can wager on it. We're talking about it. It's
the Gambler.
Speaker 7 (45:30):
Welcome back to Chicken and Pizza in Morleton, New Jersey,
where you never know who is going to show up,
and we have Eagles safety in his second year, Special
Team the Extraordinary as well, Sidney Brown and Sydney.
Speaker 1 (45:43):
This hour has flown by, you.
Speaker 3 (45:45):
Know, so your second year in a row, join us,
and we hope you make it a habit because because
it's really great to have it.
Speaker 5 (45:49):
I appreciate this. This is awesome every time Gerald.
Speaker 3 (45:52):
Calton, Dave Sperdero's finishing his last bute of his Pepperoni pizza.
Speaker 1 (45:57):
The food, the food is so good. Here are you
taking anything home to Angela? I am okay good.
Speaker 4 (46:02):
She looks pizza in the morning. He's a very thin woman,
like an amazingly freakish, beautiful body and gorgeous in every way.
And she can she can. She doesn't put a pounce
and put an ounce on former Division one soccer player,
right Joel she was.
Speaker 3 (46:18):
She was spectacular in every way, but we definitely digressed here.
She just celebrated birthday. Progress, very very very true.
Speaker 1 (46:29):
Anyway, the city as we have this short week, just
describe it for us.
Speaker 3 (46:33):
You get off the plane last night, obviously, go home
tired and wake up and immediately hit the complex probably
this morning and we'll get their treatment.
Speaker 1 (46:40):
But when did you start watching film already? Today?
Speaker 6 (46:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (46:43):
I mean today?
Speaker 6 (46:44):
Obviously, I started last night on the plane home, h
just just to get an understanding of who we're going against.
Speaker 1 (46:50):
They used to play bray on those planes.
Speaker 3 (46:51):
Still, I don't know that's really datamata.
Speaker 6 (46:57):
So everybody's on that. I started last night in the
plane a little bit, just kind of get a feel.
And then obviously you can dive deeper in today, but
you know tomorrow is a big day for us that
you know, first and second down, probably dive into third
down as well, just because of the short week.
Speaker 1 (47:10):
But yeah, just it.
Speaker 5 (47:11):
They all is a fast It's a fast, fast turnaround.
Speaker 4 (47:14):
I guess the question is why have I'm not sure
we can answer right here, but why have the Washington
Commanders become such a good football team? I think a
legit football team. Watched the game yesterday. They gave the
Steelers every battle that they could handle. They were inches
short of keeping that game alive. What is it about
them that makes them so good? When you see what
you've seen from them?
Speaker 6 (47:33):
Yeah, well, I mean, first of all, I mean you
look at compared to what they were last year. It's
it's not even you can't even really compare to the
two teams. I think they've done a great job bringing
the right coaches in one. But obviously, I mean Jane Daniels.
Speaker 5 (47:45):
Is doing a great job offense. He's kind of operating
like a bet right now.
Speaker 6 (47:49):
You know, he's getting the ball downfield, getting the ball
down the field efficiently.
Speaker 5 (47:53):
I think that's the more important, more important point.
Speaker 4 (47:56):
Gosh, but confused, he's really really smart, like I really promiss.
Speaker 5 (48:01):
He's doing a good job.
Speaker 6 (48:02):
They're operating really well efficient and they're and they're making
big time splash plays, which is you know, making up
on both ends. And again I think they've got a
pretty good defense too, that's taking the ball away.
Speaker 5 (48:12):
So yeah, but you look at their their backs.
Speaker 6 (48:15):
Their backs have been pretty impressive with eight and obviously Ecklers,
So I mean it's it's it's been an impressive group.
Speaker 5 (48:20):
And then obviously the receivers as well, I mean.
Speaker 6 (48:23):
Former Eagle out there and well for them and zach
Ertz yeah, well, I mean not Oz's out there.
Speaker 4 (48:29):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I was here with the returning punts. Yes,
he's struggle a little bit yesterday, but so I wonder
if film make a change there because that's the way
the NFL is. But otherwise they've been doing really, really
well in the punt return game and as like it's
a slot receiver doing doing a nice job as well, right,
I mean, yeah, I always like those. Yeah, yeah, I
(48:49):
think he's a good player.
Speaker 5 (48:50):
No, I thought he'd I mean he's consistent, he's a
consistent guy.
Speaker 1 (48:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (48:55):
I'm still not used to calling them commanders, but anyway,
that game will call it quickly. You know what, It
was one thing, and I don't want to digress, and
I want to end on on the commander's noe. But
you played the Bengals a few weeks back, and your
brother's on the Bengals. First time you've ever played at
this kind of level against each other. I mean it's
the NFL and you only play that division basically once
every four years.
Speaker 1 (49:14):
What was it like playing your brother and what was
it like beating him?
Speaker 5 (49:18):
It was a cool moment.
Speaker 6 (49:20):
I think we both kind of reflect on it and
it's like that moment that we kind of come together
and put all together. But I don't think that really
happened for us, uh. I think we're just both striving
for more And it was cool though to see him
doing what he's doing on offense. He's doing a great
job with the Bengals, and you know, he's inspiring me
each and every day to kind of build and do
a bigger build my role here and do better things
on the field. So you know, I think I think
(49:42):
the cooler thing would be is.
Speaker 5 (49:44):
In the future when we're both you know, doing our
thing as you know, all pro players and super Bowl
against each other, you know what I mean each other?
Speaker 4 (49:51):
Is there like a grand bubble of like the ultimate
is it you guys going against each other in the
super Bowl?
Speaker 5 (49:57):
That'd be that'd be pretty damn cool. But I mean,
I think we're.
Speaker 6 (50:02):
The one thing with when you start attaining success is
just the celia always gets higher. So it's just it's
hard to really feel like you are successful. And I
think that was that was us reflecting on that moment.
I think that's really what it was.
Speaker 2 (50:14):
Like.
Speaker 4 (50:14):
It was like, okay, yeah, cool, but you know what's
next for us? But I do want to ask this question.
You strive for great, great, great, great gat You're never satisfied,
but you are enjoying the journey absolutely, Like Okay, I
love football.
Speaker 5 (50:28):
I love everything about it.
Speaker 6 (50:29):
But again, yeah, it's just I think I think I
am addicted to you know, scene result getting better week
to week, and just yeah, it's just it's honestly like
if I can't explain it, it's like it's.
Speaker 4 (50:41):
Like a drug.
Speaker 5 (50:41):
Man, it is like a drug, and I'm addicted to it.
Speaker 3 (50:44):
And listen, sitting next to you for an hour today,
an hour last year, you smile the whole time. Your
happiness and love of life and what you're doing right
now is very infectious and very obvious and and you
know Dave's point about enjoying what you're doing. It all
goes so fast, and so you want to enjoy every
second of this, in this in this great journey. But
how many Brown of the Brown family, in the in
(51:07):
the extended family were at that Cincinnati Eagles game.
Speaker 5 (51:09):
Oh my god, we had. We had about thirty people.
Speaker 6 (51:12):
That that's beautiful. Yeah, and we we we had everybody
we needed to do that. It was a special moment
for them. But again, only more to come in the future, right, Like, yeah,
I don't even know if we play the Bengals.
Speaker 4 (51:22):
Here every every four years against the team and then
every years back in Mark since so Davious Super Bowl.
Speaker 3 (51:31):
Uh, we've got three days now till the Washington Commanders
Big Division game, and that link's going to be jumping
on Thursday night.
Speaker 4 (51:39):
It salutes to service night. It's uh, there's gonna be
a little concert in the Pepsi Plaza before the game.
The fans are going to be riled up, ready to go.
This is a nationally televised game on Amazon and it's
for first place in the NFC East. It's going to be.
It's gonna be, as the kids say, Lizz Gerald, we
may not have ever heard that term, but it's.
Speaker 3 (51:56):
Going to be. And listen, it is Veterans Day. Shout
out to all the veterans. Thank you so much for
all you do. I'm very proud. My father was a
veteran of the Air Force and was in the Korean Conflict.
He's ninety two years old. He's done battling over at
Lionsgate where my mother and you told your story about
your mother, and my mother is my inspiration in a
(52:17):
lot of ways. Arlene Colton always giving us a listen,
and we got Angela, his lovely wife, always listen.
Speaker 1 (52:22):
We know we at least we got those people listening and.
Speaker 3 (52:26):
Hopefully a lot more because I got to tell you
so appreciative of you coming out after that late flight
in an early game on Thursday and just everything you
bring to the table. We are so we are such
big Sydney Brown fans. I look forward to a lot
of great moments.
Speaker 1 (52:40):
Ahey, absolutely, thank you so much.
Speaker 5 (52:42):
I appreciate you guys.
Speaker 4 (52:43):
Thanks man, appreciate it again.
Speaker 5 (52:44):
Chicking the feet where you never know who's going to
show off.
Speaker 3 (52:47):
