Christ.
Across our entire nation.
To teach them your commands, toshow them a little bit of you,
Father, and your son JesusChrist.
Forgive us when we fail.
(02:36):
And bring us all home to you,Father, and your Son Jesus
Christ in your timing.
And God, my words here, in yourSon's name we pray.
Amen.
Have you made time for Godtoday?
Have you made time to read hisword?
(02:56):
Have you made time to pray?
To listen to him, to talk tohim.
And if you're married, have youmade time for your spouse?
Do they know that they are yourtop priority each day, second
only to God and Jesus Christ?
I got two little vignettes toadd in here.
The first is something thatpopped in my head, and it
(03:20):
applies to faith and marriage, but I was really thinking about
it in terms of marriage.
Kobe Bryant, if you're familiarwith him, is a pretty phenomenal
basketball player.
Passed away a few years ago.
But in an interview one time, hewas talking about the fact that
I think the interviewer wasasking him, you know, how did
(03:44):
you get so good relative toother people over the same
amount of time?
And he said, Well, it was reallyjust numbers.
It's just math.
I just spent more time on acourt, you know, and I did that
on purpose.
He said, I thought about that.
You know, everybody else was onthe court for an hour and a
half, two days a week, maybethree days a week.
(04:06):
He said, I'm on the courtplaying basketball, talking
about even junior high and highor high school, I mean, uh, you
know, I'm on the court for anhour and a half playing
basketball every single day.
And he said, so you start towiden that gap uh year after
year, to the point where at somepoint it becomes you can't close
it anymore with your own peers,at least.
(04:27):
But it was just a numbers game.
You know, Elon Musk says thesame thing about the population
collapse.
He said, it's just numbers,folks.
It's it's not, there's nothingemotional about it.
We just have certain countriesaround the world that have put
themselves in a situationnumerically that they just they
can't recover from.
(04:47):
We're going toward populationcollapse.
I don't think we look at our ourfaith and our marriage like that
enough, folks.
If you're putting all this timeinto TV, sports, social media,
(05:08):
uh workouts, whatever it is.
And you're putting a fraction ofthat time into God and Jesus
Christ, most importantly.
But but again, I was reallythinking about marriage the
other day, and you're notputting that time into your
marriage, then when yourmarriage falls apart and it's
broken and dysfunctional, youreally don't have anybody to
(05:30):
blame but yourself, and it'sjust a numbers game.
Well, you didn't give any timeto your spouse.
You didn't make them thepriority.
You you made your phone, TikTok,YouTube, uh, Instagram, Netflix,
Amazon Prime, whatever.
You you made that the priority, your workouts, going walking,
(05:50):
running, uh, sports, watchinghours and hours of sports, you
made those things yourpriorities.
That's what you put your timeinto.
That's where whatever benefityou're gonna get, it's it's
gonna come out of those, not outof your spouse, not out of your
faith.
The other is a comment, and Iwon't embarrass the person, uh,
(06:12):
but uh a man that I have apretty good opinion of actually
sent me this, uh, talking aboutthe Charlie Kirk Memorial.
It is delightful irony, perfectChrist-inspired irony, that what
amounted to a supersized revivalmeeting in Arizona was
(06:34):
galvanized in speech by multiplepastors, it is true, but more
exceptionally, as far as themasses were concerned, by some
of the leading nationalRepublican politicians.
Only Christ could haveorchestrated the unbelievable
fact that the courage to speakout boldly would not come from
professional Christians, butfrom a slain layman, through the
(06:58):
mouths of professionalChristians and more
unbelievably, politicians.
It shouldn't surprise us,because his closest friends
deserted him.
But I bet a dollar to a donut,Jesus Christ is walking around
heaven, puzzling the heavenlyhost because he is breaking into
(07:20):
seemingly unwarranted smiles thelast few days.
D.
S.
Lewis in Mere Christianitytalked about the fact and I wish
I had the quote in front of meand I don't, but he said, you
know, we don't need playwrightsand lawyers and doctors and
(07:41):
teachers, police officers,plumbers.
Um we don't need pastors andpriests who are those things,
right?
We don't need pastors andpriests who are playwrights, uh
actors, plumbers, electricians,teachers, lawyers, doctors.
He said what we need is we needpeople in those professions that
(08:07):
are Christian.
We need playwrights who areChristian.
We need doctors who areChristian, we need lawyers,
teachers, electricians, farmers, ranchers who are Christian.
And and this quote that I justread to you from this gentleman,
(08:28):
uh it really it struck me thatway.
Charlie Kirk wasn't a pastor ora priest.
And I'm not saying we don't needpastors or priests, folks.
We do.
I I think we just forget that wehave a responsibility as
Christians to do our job whilebeing a Christian.
(08:52):
Right?
We're we're not maybe it wouldbe better to say it this way.
We don't need to be a teacherwho happens to be a Christian.
We need to be a Christian whohappens to teach.
(09:16):
But not in the professionalsense, right?
At any rate, I'm probablymucking this all up, but
hopefully y'all got a littlesomething out of it.
We're gonna go into the Bibleverses uh for today.
So the marriage verse for todaycomes out of Mark chapter ten,
(09:39):
verses five through nine.
But Jesus said to them, Becauseof your hardness of heart, he
wrote you this commandment.
But from the beginning ofcreation God made them male and
female.
For this reason a man shallleave his father and mother, and
the two shall become one flesh,so they are no longer two but
one flesh.
What therefore God has joinedtogether, let no man separate.
(10:02):
We don't make enough of the oneflesh, folks, the fact that
we're supposed to bind and bondto our spouse to cleave and
cling to our spouse above allelse every day.
Those are not weak words.
Those are not transitory words, they are extremely strong words
(10:23):
and language from God and JesusChrist.
Other Bible verses for todaywe're gonna Titus chapter 3,
verses 1 through 15.
Remind the believers to submitto the government and its
officers.
They should be obedient, alwaysready to do what is good.
They must not slander anyone andmust avoid quarreling.
(10:45):
Instead, they should be gentleand show true humility to
everyone.
Once we too were foolish anddisobedient.
We were misled and became slavesto many lusts and pleasures.
Our lives were full of evil andenvy and we hated each other.
But when God our Savior revealedhis kindness and love, he saved
us, not because of the righteousthings we had done, but because
(11:09):
of his mercy.
He washed away our sins, givingus a new birth and new life
through the Holy Spirit.
He generously poured out theSpirit upon us through Jesus
Christ our Savior.
Because of his grace, he made usright in his sight and gave us
confidence that we will inheriteternal life.
This is a trustworthy saying, and I want you to insist on
(11:32):
these things so that all whotrust in God will devote
themselves to doing good.
These teachings are good andbeneficial for everyone.
Do not get involved in foolishdiscussions about spiritual
pedigrees or quarrels and fightsabout obedience to Jewish laws.
These things are useless and awaste of time.
If people are causing divisionsamong you, give a first and
(11:54):
second warning.
After that, have nothing more todo with them.
For people like that have turnedaway from the truth and their
own sins condemn them.
I am planning to send eitherArtemis or Tychus to you as soon
as one of them arrives.
Do your best to meet me atNicopolis, for I have decided to
(12:15):
stay there for the winter.
Do everything you can to helpZenus the lawyer and Apollos
with their trip.
See that they are giveneverything they need.
Our people must learn to do goodby meeting the urgent needs of
others.
Then they will not beunproductive.
Everybody here sends greetings.
Please give my greetings to thebelievers, all who love us.
(12:38):
May God's grace be with you all.
Psalm one hundred verses onethrough five, a psalm of
thanksgiving.
Shout with joy to the Lord, allthe earth, worship the Lord with
gladness, come before himsinging with joy, acknowledge
that the Lord is God.
He made us and we are his.
(12:58):
We are his people, the sheep ofhis pasture.
Enter his gates withthanksgiving, go into his courts
with praise, give thanks to himand praise his name, for the
Lord is good.
His unfailing love continuesforever, and his faithfulness
continues to each generation.
Proverbs 26, verse 18 through19.
(13:22):
Just as damaging as a madmanshooting a deadly weapon is
someone who lies to a friend andthen says, I was only joking.
You go back to Titus, the thingthat jumps out there is to be
ready to do good, right?
That you look at verses fourthrough seven that he saved us,
(13:43):
not because we're so righteous, folks, but because of his mercy,
God's mercy.
And because of his grace and thefact that he's made us right in
his sight because of JesusChrist, we have confidence that
we will inherit eternal lifewith him, right?
But Titus 3, they talk, he talksa couple times here.
(14:04):
Don't get involved in foolishdiscussions, quarrels, right?
And do good and devote yourselfto doing good.
How many of us, if we reallydevoted ourselves?
It's kind of like the pastorI've talked about here before.
He was an Air Force captain, Ibelieve.
He was a preacher at one of thechurches we went to years ago in
my life and I.
(14:24):
And one of the things he talkedabout, excuse me, was in
marriage.
What would it be like if everyday we got up trying to outdo
the other one in loving eachother, right?
What if we got up every day andthat was our focus was doing
good to those around us?
And not quarreling.
How much would that change ourmarriages, our families, our
(14:47):
nation, our communities, ourchurches?
How many of us love quarrelingtoo much?
How many of us aren't nearenough concerned about pleasing
our spouse, doing good to thosearound us?
And then the Thanksgiving Psalm,Psalm 100, just makes me smile
because we're just a little bitcloser to November when we go
(15:09):
through all the Thanksgivingproclamations, and I'm excited
about that each year.
Medal of Honor for today,Charles Malone Betts, Lieutenant
Colonel, U.S.
Civil War, 15th PennsylvaniaCavalry, U.S.
Army, April 19, 1865,Greensboro, North Carolina.
(15:32):
With a force of but 75 men whileon a scouting expedition, by a
judicious disposition of hismen, surprised and captured an
entire battalion of the enemy'scavalry.
Accredited to Philadelphia,Pennsylvania, not awarded
posthumously, presented October10th, 1892.
Born August 9, 1838, BucksCounty, Pennsylvania, died
(15:56):
November 10th, 1905, Germantown,Pennsylvania.
Buried West Laurel HillCemetery, Woodlawn 22Tac 4,
Bala, C Y N Y, or N Wy D,Pennsylvania.
Charles Malone Beth, youdefinitely know there's more to
that story.
(16:16):
With 75 men capturing an entirebattalion of the Confederate
cavalry.
(16:40):
You have to see God's handpreserving the Union when you
really look at a lot of theselittle incidents.
Just like you have to see God'shand during the Revolutionary
War, during World War II, somany of these moments in the
history of our nation.
And that kind of goes back toJohn Adams' quote that we read
the other day, talking abouteven if we have all this
(17:02):
calamity yet to come in America,it will get rid of our vices and
our evils, some of them, right?
And it will increase our virtuebecause that's what affliction,
the furnace of affliction, does.
Charles Malone Betts.
Another name to remember.
(17:23):
So I've got a few real shortquotes that I think kind of all
go together here.
Otto Edward Leopold Bismarck wasthe Russian chancellor in the
1800s who united the Germanpeople.
February 6th, 1888.
Bismarck stated, We Germans fearGod, but nothing else in the
(17:46):
world.
President James Garfielddescribing the Chancellor.
I am struck with the fact thatBismarck, the great statesman of
Germany, probably the foremostman in Europe today, stated as
an unquestioned principle thatthe support, the defense, the
propagation of the Christiangospel is the central object of
(18:07):
the German government.
Hugo La Fayette Black, UnitedStates Supreme Court Justice in
1962.
Indeed, as late as the time ofthe Revolutionary War, there
were established churches in atleast eight of the 13 former
colonies and establishedreligions in at least four of
(18:29):
the other five.
And then a little story that Istumbled across, all of this
coming out of America's God andCountry Encyclopedia of
Quotations.
If you don't have this or theFounder's Bible by the Wall
Builder Association or thePatriots Bible edited by Dr.
Richard Lee, I highly recommenda hard copy of each of those.
This again is America's God andCountry Encyclopedia of
(18:52):
Quotations by William J.
Bedder.
As the continent moved closer tothe Revolutionary War, one of
the governors wrote to the Boardof Trade in England, if you ask
an American who is his master,he will tell you he has none,
(19:13):
nor any governor but JesusChrist.
And the committees ofcorrespondence that were so
crucial to the colonies in theRevolution spread the cry, no
King but King Jesus.
(19:34):
We have for sure forgotten wherewe started, folks, and where we
have to be.
One other real quick one.
Do I have time for this?
Yeah.
Telford Taylor talking about theword appease, right?
(19:56):
What does appease mean?
To pacify, to buy off anaggressor by concessions,
usually at the sacrifice ofprinciples.
Telford Taylor, talking aboutappeasement during the 1920s and
30s in Britain.
The word became a symbol of weakand myopic yielding when
resistance would be bolder andin the long run safer.
(20:18):
Folks, there's no appeasement ofpeople who follow leftism,
socialism, communism, Nazism,fascism, Islam.
You can't appease them enough.
The only reason that any ofthose people promote peace and
tolerance is as time to gainpower.
And once those ideologies gainpower, there is no more peace or
(20:42):
tolerance.
In the 1920s and 30s, Britainand France, there was no way
they could appease Hitlerenough, the dictators as a whole
enough.
They tried it.
It didn't work, and it won'twork today.
There's no amount ofappeasement.
Nothing you can offer followersof those, that bucket of isms or
(21:06):
Islam that will get them toleave you alone.
If you're looking for afamily-friendly middle-grade
fantasy series to read, I wouldhumbly recommend Countryside.
There's two books in the series, working on the third.
And if you enjoy it, if youwould share it with somebody
(21:27):
else and leave a reviewsomewhere, I would greatly
appreciate that.
God bless you all.
God bless your families.
God bless your marriages ifyou're married.
God bless America.
God bless your nation, whereveryou are around the world
listening.
We'll talk to you again realsoon, folks.
Looking forward to it.
