Breanna Gunn is a messaging and funnel specialist, working with business owners and entrepreneurs to create messaging and processes that inspire loyalty, momentum and action that leverages trust, authenticity, and profitability.

Brea uses her more than 20 years of experience with customer service and marketing to uncover the gaps in messaging that lead to lower conversions and plugs them through customised systems, structures and processes that are bolstered by copy that converts.

Join us as we discuss how the words we use in our messaging matter and why building relationships should be our main focus.

In this episode, we talk about:

(00:28):
businesses you're buying from, then this is the show for you.
So Hello, and welcome to thisepisode of The Angel Rated Show.
I'm Angela Bryant and with metoday, I have Breanna Gunn.
Breanna Gunn is a messaging andfunnel specialist working with
business owners andentrepreneurs to create

(00:49):
messaging and processes thatinspire loyalty, momentum and
action that leverages trust, authenticity and profitability,
which sounds like something wecould all need in this world. So
Breanna, welcome to the show.
You want to just start by Yeah, lovely to have you here. Just
let us know. Tell us a bit moreabout who you are.

Breanna Gunn (01:11):
Sure. So it's nice to meet everyone here that's
listening to the podcast. I'mBrea Gunn of Breanna Gunn
Enterprises. I'm a businessstrategist and content marketer.
And I found that the words weuse and the language that we use
is far more important thananything else in our marketing.
And so I'm really passionateabout helping the language that

(01:35):
you put out into the world bethe best it can be and helps to
build the relationship and dothe heavy lifting of getting
those people in the door in yourworld so that you can turn them
into clients.

Angela Bryant (01:48):
Sounds fab. So tell us about your story. Tell
us how your business came aboutand why you started.

Breanna Gunn (01:55):
That's a fun story. Um, so I actually went to
school for pre law, I wasplanning on getting my my law
degree and I was going to be anattorney and I went to work for
a law firm while he was inschool and realized very quickly
that attorneys don't do thedigging and the fun stuff, they
don't get the bad guy, they justfiled paperwork. And that didn't

(02:16):
sound fun to me. I wanted to bethe one doing the research and
writing the writing thedocuments and doing all of the
heavy the heavy lifting. And soI scrapped the idea to go to law
school, and then I got pregnant.
And I realized very quickly thatthe stress of working at a
law firm was not something thawas going to coincide well wit
, with a new family. And I sowas I was like, I'll take mat

(02:38):
rnity leave. And then I'll figre it out. And my mom found an
rticle in real simple, had a webite called hire by mom. And I w
nt on there and found a gig woring for a baby sleep site and
a wedding site. And I stated doing content and copy for
them and checking email and jusanything they wanted. I sai

(02:58):
yes. Because I didn't know whaI didn't know. And I didn't I w
nted to make myself invluable. And so I kept saying yes
when they asked, and we lauched multiple programs tog
ther and made them lots and lotof money. And I had so much fun
that I wanted to do more of tha. So I expanded my business to
nclude launching and more copwriting launch copy. And I'v

(03:22):
been doing it ever since.

Angela Bryant (03:29):
And your background was in sales. Was it
before that I think I read.

Breanna Gunn (03:33):
Yeah, before that I actually sold cars and cell
phones and coffee, and all kindsof things. And sales sucks my
sucks my energy. It's one ofthose things I'm good at, but
it's exhausting. I'm sure youhave those skills where you're
like I can, I can totally dothis, but I'm going to need a
nap. And that was sales for meis is you know, it was it was I

(03:58):
was very, very good. I couldtotally you know, I could still
I could put you in a car, youdidn't want to drive home and
you'd be thrilled with it. And,but it was exhausting. And it
was it was very humbling torealize that even though I was
so good at it, it kind of woreme down. And so now I get to
focus on sales that help peopleand I get to help people help my

(04:20):
clients and the people that arein my world create better
language. So the sales processis more organic and easier and
less stressful.

Angela Bryant (04:31):
Yes, definitely the same skills but used in a
very different way. Yes, yeah, that can be really helpful. So
tell us a bit more about sort ofthat why you sort of said about
how you started your business, but what's the sort of passion
behind it? What's your What doyou really want to create with
your business?

Breanna Gunn (04:49):
That's a hard question. So I don't have a big
overarching why at least I don'tthink I do my Why is so that I
can be home with my kids. Sothat I can help more people and
so that I can go to Disney Worldwhenever I want. For lack of to
be completely honest, I don'thave this big esoteric, you
know, my Why is I want to help amillion Nope, I really just want

(05:13):
to improve the lives of thepeople that I touch, and be able
to spend time with my kids.

Angela Bryant (05:18):
But even that, I mean, that's enough and
improving the lives of thepeople that you work with is a
great thing to want to createwith your business. So I assume
that that probably also answersthe question about whether you
have a sort of vision for yourbusiness at where you want it to
head. I assume it is it is thatis it? Would it be fair to say
that that's more? Keeping it? Idon't know, you answer it.

Breanna Gunn (05:38):
So I think that I think that what keeps me going
is I love my clients, I love thepeople I work with, I love
seeing their transformation, Ijust had a client who launched
and it was a it was a rockylaunch launches right now are
doing very weird things there.
People have always waited untilthe last minute, but they're
waiting until like the 19th houror the 23rd hour to enroll, you

(06:00):
know, we had we were like, youknow, we have one enrollment and
then nothing for a week. Andthen we got three enrollments
and then nothing for a week. Andthen, you know, and it's but we
ended up with 15 people and twomore who wanted in late, which,
you know, those numbers soundsmall to people. But when you're
talking about a program, that's,you know, three to $5,000 a pop,

(06:20):
that's not anything to sneezeat. And it's it's seeing the
process and figuring out how tomake it more efficient, how to
replicate it in a way that'sless work for the whole team,
and how to leverage themessaging and the marketing
that's going out to the world sothat people don't want to wait

(06:40):
to the last minute they want toget in sooner they want to come
in and hang out. And that'sreally what drives me is it's
almost like solving a puzzle, like you have all of the edge
pieces. And some of the middlesput together. But you have to
figure out where all the otherpieces fit so that it all works
well like, like a puzzle. I hopethat made sense,

Angela Bryant (07:04):
Mmm It does. And I love puzzles. So that makes
perfect sense. In terms of Iknow you're obviously very
focused on is sort of close tohome issues to you, are there
any issues in the bigger, widerworld that you're passionate
about things that you would wantto support in the future or that
you do support?

Breanna Gunn (07:25):
I do, I do a lot, I donate a lot of money to
women's shelters, I was it'ssomething I talk about very
often, I was in a really badmarriage. And she was very
abusive, and I thankfully had aplace to go, my parents were
incredibly supportive, they gotme out. But there are so many
people out there who don't havethat support. And so I'm very

(07:47):
passionate about donating money, time, clothing, you know, all of
our baby items went to the localbattered women's shelter.
Because a lot of times when youleave a situation like that you
don't have anything and it's notsafe for you to go back and get
it. So that's something that'sreally it's a huge, a huge

(08:08):
passion of mine, you know, I'dlike to donate more and more
money and more of me. So as Iscale my business, that's,
that's, uh, you know, I'm, I'mall for building wells in
countries that don't have waterand building churches and
schools, but I want to affectmore change closer to home.
Because those are the peoplethat I see every day, you know,
you never know walking down thestreet who's going home to a

(08:30):
shelter and not to a house or anapartment. So that's, that's
what I like to support.

Angela Bryant (08:37):
Absolutely. And I think it's really interesting
for me personally, when I'mlooking at, you know, which
business to buy from, and ifyou've got a range of different
people offering similarservices, really understanding a
bit more about what drives themand where your money's going.
And what it's being used tosupport is, is something that's
important to me just tounderstand what people are, you
know, what drives people andwhat's important to them. So

(08:58):
thank you for sharing that. Iknow. Yeah. You said it's not
something you talk about thatoften. So that's very kind of
you to share that. Yeah. And isthere is there anything Tell us
a bit more about almost yourpersonal values. So how do you
run your life? What are your youknow, what's your big worldview?
And you go about living?

Breanna Gunn (09:17):
You know, I try really hard to live by the
golden rule and do unto others.
I actually had a quotecompetitor, who she's another
copywriter, she's a reallyskilled copywriter. She has a
team and she was looking foradditional copywriters for her
team and I happen to have twocopywriters who are looking for
work on my team, like I'm one oftheir clients and they're

(09:39):
looking for additional clients.
So I messaged her I'm like ifyou're still looking for
copywriters, I have somefantastic people and she
couldn't believe that I wouldshare my secret weapon with her
and I don't believe incompetition. I think there's
enough room for everybody. And,you know, I would not be I
wouldn't be able to live withmyself. If I knew my favorite

(10:01):
people in the world, the peoplethat I depend on that I rely on
are looking for clients, and Ididn't help them. And so I try
very hard to approach everysales call every getting to know
you call, as if there's a way Ican serve. Even if that's not
hiring me, even if that's notworking with me, it's it's very

(10:24):
much about service and servingothers and making sure that the
people in my community, thepeople that I am surrounded
with, have the ability to growand scale their businesses as
well, because there's enoughthere's enough business out
there for everybody. And it'sjust finding the right people.
And so I think on a largerscale, I think more of us need

(10:44):
to have that attitude of, youknow, spreading it around.

Angela Bryant (10:51):
Yeah, I completely agree. There's, I
think we all come at this fromthis mindset of competition in
the past, or especially fromcorporate backgrounds, or
different places, whereas itfeels like there's so much more
collaborative collaboration andcommunity that we can work with.
And that will benefit everyone.

Breanna Gunn (11:09):
I'd like your site, you know, Angel Rated,
it's such a great like youcould, there's, you do so much
good by having all of thoseresources in one place. Because,
you know, you can find thetestimonials, you can find the
pricing, you can find all thethings you need right there. And
it's such a good resource, andthere's nothing else like it out
there.

Angela Bryant (11:30):
Thank you. You're welcome. So you What message
would you like to impart topeople about copywriting about
how they, you know, write whatthey're working on? And how they
share their message? What wouldyou like people to sort of go
away with in terms of how youwork?

Breanna Gunn (11:47):
That's a really good question. So if your copy
is something you're strugglingwith, find a good copywriter.
Even if it's not me, go findsomeone you jive with that feels
good and align with your voice.
and talk to them, they may notbe a good fit, but they will
probably have some suggestionsfor you if they're worth their
weight, that can help youimprove your writing. And always
right from the heart. If you'regoing to do your own copy, make

(12:11):
sure it's authentic, make sureit's it's really going to
resonate with the people thatyou want to impact and stop
worrying so much about makingthe sale worry more about
building the relationshipbecause their relationship will
drive the sale. Because at theend of the day, friends, buy
from friends. And if you makemore friends, you make more
money.

Angela Bryant (12:31):
Great advice.
Great advice. We were talkingjust before we hit record around
that sort of relationshipbuilding. And that's obviously
something that's deeplyimportant to you about how
people build community and buildrelationships with the people
around them with clients withpotential clients with, you
know, everyone they work with,is there anything else you want
to add about that?

Breanna Gunn (12:52):
You know, I think that we need to get away from
trying to from worrying aboutwhere our next sale is going to
come from. And start worryingmore about the impact that we
have on the people around us.
Because if we worried more aboutthe impact that we have, and
leaving the world a better placethan we found it, we would be so
much happier.

Angela Bryant (13:15):
Great advice, sometimes that you just
mentioned leaving the world abetter place than you found it
what other other principles orbeliefs or things that you live
your life by or things that makeyou angry? What what's sort of
your triggers in your broaderworldview,

Breanna Gunn (13:29):
I get really frustrated by people who are
adamant that my system works foreveryone, because that's a lie.
I am not for everyone. There isno person on the planet that is
literally for everyone. Stoptrying to serve everyone serve
the people who actually want tohear what you have to say and
screw the rest for lack of abetter term. But stop stop

(13:54):
promoting yourself as if you'reGod's answer to the world
because you're not I there arepeople out there that I don't
jive with there are peoplelistening this podcast are like,
Oh my god, she's so full ofherself. And they don't want to
hear anything more from me. Andthat's completely fine. You're
not my people. And that's okay.
And I wish you well, the peoplewho resonate will reach out and
connect with me and we will havea great conversation. And
sometimes it takes more than oneconversation to create a client

(14:17):
or curate that relationship. Andyou know, don't throw the baby
out with the bathwater. I thinkso many people are like, Oh,
well, they're not going to payme I'm moving on. You never know
where your next client is goingto come from. You never know
where your next great idea orcollaboration is going to come
from. So curating relationshipsreally matters. And it's what
allows you to scale yourbusiness rapidly because like, I

(14:39):
never would have met you if Ihadn't come across you in that
podcast group and found AngelRated and been like floored by
what you're doing. And it's justso cool. But there was there's
literally no reason for us tocross paths otherwise, but you
took the time and I took thetime to actually curate a
relationship and here we are,you know what I'm getting to

(15:00):
reach people I wouldn't havereached if I hadn't met you. But
if I had blown you off and beenlike, Oh, that's not for me, we
wouldn't be here. And so I thinkbeing open to new experiences
and being open to allowing helpin is, is the fastest way to get
to where you want to go.

Angela Bryant (15:18):
It's that idea.
You just never know wheresomething's going to lead. And
you just saying yes to thatopportunity. And as you said,
allowing, allowing people inallowing things in building
those nurturing thoserelationships, really, you just
never know what's going to comewith it? Or who's listening who
you're going to find?

Breanna Gunn (15:34):
Yeah, you know, I had a conversation earlier this
morning with a gal who I was notplanning on pitching at all. And
we were both in a very similarspace. Turns out, she's only
been in business for six months, and she's looking for someone to
help her find clients. Andthat's one of the services I
provide. And so we ended up wehad to stop the call. But she

(15:57):
was like, Can I book anotheranother 30 minutes on your
calendar, because I really wantto talk about what working with
you would look like, totallyunexpected. But it was because I
offered her like real advice. Dothis instead of what you're
doing and see what happens andcome back to me and let me know
when she's like, I can't believeyou're telling you this for
free. And I'm like, why wouldn'tdie? You know, you never know.

Angela Bryant (16:17):
You do never know. That's Yeah, great point.
So before we start thinkingabout wrapping up, I just want
to you know, a few morequestions just to find out a bit
more about you, you on yourwebsite. I was having a look
through some of the info aboutyou. And it talked about roller
derby, Now in the UK that mans nothing to me. I'm pictu
ing roller skates. Yes. Am I onthe right line? Okay, well,

(16:40):
what's the derby part of it? Telme more.

Breanna Gunn (16:44):
So if you pict re like, like horse racing,
ut with people on a circular trck that chase each other and try
to score points.

Angela Bryant (16:54):
Okay sounds dange ous. and mad.

Breanna Gunn (16:56):
Yeah, basically, like rugby on skates on a track.

Angela Bryant (17:00):
Amazing. And this is something you do now all that
you used to do.

Breanna Gunn (17:03):
I have not actually played since the
pandemic, I probably I like Iwas telling my husband the other
day, I think that means I'mofficially retired from playing
derby. But I just bought a pairof new skates for skating
outside with my kids. And I willforever be a huge supporter of
roller derby. I think it's afantastic outlet for women and
men. It's a great community ofpeople I have I've met people

(17:25):
from all different countries andstates and just the most
fantastic and supportive humansyou've ever met. Also very scary
if you happen to be in theirway.

Angela Bryant (17:39):
I love it. I love finding out about different
things on different sides of theAtlantic. And yeah, what do you
do for fun? That's brilliant. Sodo you want to start with a wrap
up and just tell listeners moreabout where they can find you
what you offer and what yourbusiness and services are?

Breanna Gunn (17:56):
Absolutely. So if you are looking for me, you can
