This edition of the KTBS political podcast “The APP—Arklatex People and Politics” features an extended conversation with U.S. Secretary of Education Linda McMahon and Louisiana State Supt. of Education Cade Brumley.
KTBS was selected as one of just two television stations in Louisiana to conduct one-on-one interviews with the secretary.
McMahon chose Louisiana to begin her 50-state tour of America entitled: “Returning Education to the States.” One of the main reasons was the big leap Louisiana students made in recent test scores—jumping from near the bottom to 32nd nationally, with fourth grade reading moving from 50th in 2019 to 16th in 2024.
That’s a big improvement, and McMahon wanted to find out what was happening in Louisiana that led to that big leap. The conversation with her and Brumley proved to be quite enlightening.
