Hey there, we're Shannon + Gerry Arner, a minimalist couple driven by intentional living + adventure. Burned out from the 24/7 grind of running our business, we traded the hustle + bustle for something more meaningful. We parted ways with most of our belongings + moved to the coast. Listen along as we chat about life's challenges, share inspiring stories, + help you live with more intention + with less physical + mental clutter. Each episode is a step toward doing + being just a little bit better, for ourselves + the world around us. Life's an adventure after all! Come join us for the ride!
We used to treat Sundays like a warm-up lap for the workweek: laundry, inbox checks, meal prep, to-do lists. It felt productive, but underneath it all was anxiety disguised as ambition. Somewhere along the way, rest became something we had to earn.
It takes work to unlearn hustle culture, so we are sharing some of the habits we have created to live more slowly and rid ourselves of the hustle culture mentality.

Wellness has become a marketing buzzword. It’s wrapped in expensive gadgets, glowing bottles, and morning routines that feel more like part-time jobs than self-care.
We’ve spent years simplifying our routines, and it’s taught us something we wish we had learned sooner: feeling good doesn’t have to cost a dime.

Reaching 200 episodes of The Arner Adventures Podcast feels surreal. When we started, we had no idea where this journey would take us. We've shared stories from our travels, the highs and lows of leaving behind a 24/7 business, and the ways we've redefined success on our own terms.
This milestone isn't about looking back, though. It is about what's next. If there is one thing that defines us, it is choosing adventure...
Life is not just about big vacations or perfectly staged moments. The fundamental shift in how we experience our days often comes from slowing down enough to make ordinary tasks feel meaningful.
That is where the idea of romanticizing your life comes in. It is not about adding more to your plate. It is about seeing the beauty in what is already there, even in chores.

When Gerry first joked on the podcast about doing a whole episode about our toaster oven/air fryer, I (Shannon) rolled my eyes.
Who dedicates an entire conversation to one kitchen appliance? Well, apparently we do, because here we are.
The truth is, this little gadget has become one of the most used items in our home. It fits our lifestyle in a way we didn't expect, and since Gerry is such a big fan, it's time we give it the ...
Adventure has a reputation for being loud, fast, and filled with constant activity. People often picture bustling streets, guided tours, or adrenaline-pumping excursions.
What we have learned, though, is that adventure does not always require noise or movement. Some of the most meaningful experiences come when you step into silence and allow yourself to notice what is already happening around you. We dive into the power of silence o...
Travel and adventure are often portrayed as something that requires a considerable budget, but we have found that some of our best memories didn’t cost us a thing.
Whether we are at home in Beaufort or exploring new streets elsewhere, the experiences that stick with us the most are often the ones we stumble upon for free.
Living intentionally means recognizing that adventure is less about money and more about mindset.

You may not know exactly what the pull is, but often, you feel the sign. The sign is that something has to change. There are times in life when you cannot continue on the same path. We’ve been there.
Life doesn’t always hand you a giant flashing sign that says, “Time for a reset.”
It can be a creeping feeling you can’t quite put your finger on. It can also be a catastrophic mental or physical health issue. Again, we know this well.Th...
It's easy to romanticize the idea of escaping.
Book the flight, leave the stress behind, and start fresh in a new place. But what happens when escaping becomes more than a vacation?
What if it becomes the way we cope with everyday life?
This question has been on our minds because our own significant lifestyle change was, in many ways, an escape from our previous lives.

Cruises have always had a reputation that swings from dreamy to disastrous.
For some, it’s the ultimate vacation: unlimited food, sparkling blue water, and a floating city that takes you from one tropical port to the next.
For others, cruises are associated with headlines like the infamous “Poop Cruise,” which recently appeared on Netflix, or haunting stories like the disappearance of Amy Bradley.
With such extreme narratives, it can ...

When we decided to downsize our lives, we weren’t just talking about square footage or closet space.
We were peeling back years of shoulds, pressure, and “normal” that didn’t feel like ours.
Somewhere along the way, what we thought were needs turned out to be noise, loud, stressful, expensive noise.
We're sharing what we thought were needs, but looking at it with a different lens, we now know they were not, in hopes that you can e...

For more than 30 years The River Cafe in London, has been the home-from-home of artists, architects, designers, actors, collectors, writers, activists, and politicians. Michael Caine, Glenn Close, JJ Abrams, Steve McQueen, Victoria and David Beckham, and Lily Allen, are just some of the people who love to call The River Cafe home. On River Cafe Table 4, Rogers sits down with her customers—who have become friends—to talk about food memories. Table 4 explores how food impacts every aspect of our lives. “Foods is politics, food is cultural, food is how you express love, food is about your heritage, it defines who you and who you want to be,” says Rogers. Each week, Rogers invites her guest to reminisce about family suppers and first dates, what they cook, how they eat when performing, the restaurants they choose, and what food they seek when they need comfort. And to punctuate each episode of Table 4, guests such as Ralph Fiennes, Emily Blunt, and Alfonso Cuarón, read their favourite recipe from one of the best-selling River Cafe cookbooks. Table 4 itself, is situated near The River Cafe’s open kitchen, close to the bright pink wood-fired oven and next to the glossy yellow pass, where Ruthie oversees the restaurant. You are invited to take a seat at this intimate table and join the conversation.
