Speaker 1 (00:01):
Introduction to
energy medicine.
So I wanted to cover energymedicine and some of the healing
modalities that are in energymedicine.
So this part of the talk isgoing to be just a sweeping
introduction of different energyhealing modalities.
If you're interested in Reiki, you should also know a little
(00:22):
bit about these other healingmodalities and the way it works.
In this world is a lot of timesyou might find out that you are
called to one of these otherhealing modalities, or you even
feel a call to combine one ofthese with your healing practice
.
So let me share my screen so wecan see the slides.
(00:43):
Perfect, so an introduction toenergy medicine.
So the first type of energymedicine that I started with
(01:04):
which is one that we discussfairly frequently with me on the
podcast and I'm an activepractitioner is Reiki.
Reiki is one of many healingmodalities which can fall under
the umbrella of energy medicinecomplementary therapies.
Reiki is the gentle energyhealing in which we channel
universal healing life forceinto a recipient.
(01:27):
It's guided by a specific setof principles, but what we love
about Reiki is gentle, it's notinvasive.
It can be used to heal mental, emotional blocks, spiritual
blocks, and Reiki can be learnedby anyone at any point in their
life, or you can receive Reikifrom a practitioner and in the
(01:50):
handout that you'll receive and,of course, if you're not here,
I'll be sending it by email I'llhave some links to a particular
organization that gives a nicelist of various complementary
medicines and practitioners thatoffer these.
In the energy medicine world, again, there are multiple types
(02:28):
of healing modalities.
One that there's a very popularbook on I believe I've got it
included in the reading listthat's going to come with this
talk is Quantum Touch.
Quantum Touch is one thathospital organizations and some
corporate organizations haveactually started to use, and
quantum touch is similar toReiki.
(02:51):
I'm not a practitioner ofquantum touch, I've only read
about it.
The training is somewhatsimilar and somewhat similar as
far as channeling energy andusing intention.
The origins of it are differentfrom Reiki, but it's one that
many have taken to as a form ofenergy medicine that's got
benefits as far as pain relief, reducing inflammation and
(03:15):
overall well-being, and again, Ithink I've got it included in
the reading list that I createdof books that I recommend to my
clients.
I highly recommend where youcan learn more about quantum
touch.
Qigong is definitely one of myfavorites.
So Qigong, which is a branch oftraditional Chinese medicine,
(03:39):
or TCM, is the origins of Qigong.
It is actually considered to bemore of a martial art in its
origin, except, rather thanbeing used in defense, it's
actually used to move yourenergy.
So Qigong is something that youlearn as part of a personal
(04:03):
practice.
You learn from a Qi Gong master, someone who studied it for
years and years, and they teachyou how to use posture, movement
, breath to tap into and moveyour own energy.
A Qi Gong practice usuallylooks like a session or a class
(04:26):
and the movements themselves arebased in traditional Chinese
medicine.
So it's a lot more leaning onthings like acupressure points
and meridians and you focus onany imbalance in your body and
you might perform one or aseries of Qigong movements to
help move that energy.
(04:47):
I have taken Qigong classes andI found that as a Reiki healer
and even in my medical worldwhen I'm seeing patients, qigong
is just awesome because you getto move energy, you use your
breath and when I've taken livecourses, a lot of times they
invoke sound.
You use different sounds andyou try to move the chest and
(05:11):
move the belly and use thatvibration to get your energy
kind of wiggled and unstuck inplace.
Qigong, like a lot of theseenergy healing modalities, also
involves some meditation.
It's just one of my favoritesand something that in the last
(05:32):
couple of years, I've started touse before I have clients and
after I have clients and onmyself.
With Qigong, when you get intothe practice enough, it's a nice
exercise because you really getyour muscles moving and it
feels you learn it.
It's a healing energy healingmodality that you can use on
yourself.
(05:52):
You practice on yourself andI'm always.
I just love anything that youcan do at home, on your own or
wherever you need to be.
Of course, having a guide or ateacher is perfect, but you
don't have to.
Once you start you haveresources or learning it, you
can be practicing on yourself.
It's similar to Tai Chi.
I often forget to tell peoplethat it's very similar to the
(06:14):
practice of Tai Chi.
Many Qigong practices can beperformed seated, and so for my
patients that have mobilityissues, it's something that I'll
frequently recommend, because aseated Qigong practice can be
great for relieving pain, boosting energy, but can be
performed safely if you've gotbalance or movement issues.
(06:43):
In the energy medicine world, crystals and sound healing are
very important energy medicinemodalities.
Crystals can be used to amplifyenergy or to shift energy, and
how are they used depends onyour personal practice, budget,
of course, what you're wantingto accomplish, and then of
(07:05):
course you can there areaccomplish.
And then of course, there aresome crystal healing therapists
that work with crystals.
Some people find that justholding a crystal in the palm of
their hand can have healingproperties to it.
Some people like to usecrystals placing them on various
parts of their bodies whilethey're in a meditation and then
(07:25):
sometimes just having a certaincrystal with you throughout
your day, having one you set onyour desk at work, for instance,
and programming that crystalfor a certain attention you know
to protect your energy, ormaybe to protect your energy
from the EMS from your device,is a good way to do that With
(07:47):
crystals.
You know that can become a moreexpensive modality because you
have to purchase the crystals.
The general recommendation isyou want to decide what you need
the crystal for when you shop, you want to use your intuition.
So if you're shopping a placethat allows, you do want to try
to touch or handle the crystals, see how you feel with it,
(08:10):
preferably if you can work withsomeone who's knowledgeable
about crystals and how they areso that they can advise you.
And really, with crystals, lessis better.
So the temptation is you try tocollect as many and as many as
possible, but having a fewcrystals that really help you in
your practice or your personalhealing practice really is very
(08:33):
wise.
In Oklahoma City, terrastone isa shop that sells high quality
crystals and the owner is soknowledgeable and she's so
patient and so kind.
And the owner is soknowledgeable and she's so
patient and so kind.
She's one of my favorite go-toresources her shop itself and
then just her, because she canreally guide you on crystals to
work with, to help with yourenergy, so that you can really
(08:56):
focus that.
Sound healing is one of theoriginal and best energy healing
practices ever out there.
So sound healing is using thevibrations of sound, which can
either be through music orthrough devices bells, gongs,
singing bowls but you're usingthe vibration of the sound.
(09:20):
Sound is a form of energy.
It's a wave, just like any formof energy.
But different sounds can beused to heal different parts of
the body or heal all of it.
I do use sound healing in myReiki practice when I'm working
with my clients.
Some people actually go tosound healing sessions.
My Reiki colleague, baileyBruce, offers some sound healing
(09:42):
sessions.
I think she's got one evencoming up here in October in
Oklahoma City where she invokesthe use of.
I know she uses drums andvarious sounds and I've gone to
her myself.
She's used them.
But sound, if you canexperience it live, sound
healing can be just plugging inyour headphones, playing a
healing track on your device andthe sound hitting your eardrums
(10:04):
and entering your brainwave ofcourse is very therapeutic and
of course we know that sound canalso be not therapeutic,
depending on what you'relistening to.
But sound and of course it canbe something that's free If
you've got music or sounds thatyou know are healing or have
that intention behind them, that's something you can play
for yourself at bedtime duringyour meditation.
(10:26):
I use some sounds that I playin the background when I'm
working at the clinic to helpwith my vibration so that if I'm
feeling myself gettingoverwhelmed I can just turn the
track up, take a few breaths, release the stress and move on
(10:55):
on.
Aromatherapy can be a form ofenergy medicine.
We know that aromatherapy worksthrough our nose, through our
olfactory nerve and thearomatherapy.
There's, of course, thousandsof blends and types, but what
ends up happening is the smelltravels to our brain and messes
with our brain chemistry in agood way, so that it can help
reduce stress, anxiety, boostmood, promote relaxation, pain
(11:16):
relief, a number of things.
And then, of course, aromatherapy can be used or
applied topically to the body.
With aromatherapy, the onething I like to advise my
patients, even remind myself, isthat aromatherapy really is
best when it can be usedaromatically, so just with smell
.
(11:36):
When you're getting intoessential oils, it itself can
also become rather expensive, but if you keep in mind that
aromatherapy or essential oilsare highly concentrated
compounds that came from a plantorigin, so they're designed to
be used sparingly.
So it typically with anyessential oil blend or if it's
(11:57):
in a bottle, one drop probablywill work.
And aromatherapy if you have towork like in a cubicle setting,
one way you can use it is onedrop on a piece of tissue where
it's just close, where you cansmell it.
If you're needing an energyboost, that's a good way to use
citrus oils.
Or one drop of eucalyptus juston your pulse points, like on
(12:17):
your wrist, and then you smellit, if you're not wanting the
scent to travel, but if you wantthe scent to travel.
Of course, using differs, andthere's a ton of diffusers.
Some of them are justspecialized stones that you put
the essential oil on in it.
In the handout that I'veincluded and it'll go out with
the email that I send out I'llhave a link to a company that I
recommend, which you've probablyheard of as doTERRA, and in
(12:39):
that link I think it takes youto a way that you can get
started with doTERRA and getsome of the savings.
Think about the membership withdoTERRA.
Doterra is one that I usepersonally.
I do use it in my professionalpractice with my own clients,
just because I know that thesafety and the sourcing of it's
good.
And in the essential oil arenathat can get kind of
(13:01):
questionable because there's somuch out there and I just kind
of want to lean on where I canget information about where this
came from and how they got it.
And the thing I like withdoTERRA is that they regularly
give us information about wherethis oil came from, how they
produced it, how it made its wayto your shelf, so that you can
feel good about it that it's notputting a drain more of a drain
(13:22):
on our planet.
In energy medicine, the healingcan take place in person,
working with a practitioner, whether it be Reiki, whether it
be quantum touch, whether it beacupuncture.
(13:43):
There are several healingmodalities where it can be done
at a distance.
During the pandemic, this wasso important and it ended up
being a way that I worked with anumber of clients is that
distance healing, the way youconnect just depends which is
sending that same healing, attention or therapeutic healing
(14:04):
.
But you're not, it's not, youknow, face to face.
This is a really importanthealing modality, whether it
take place with Reiki or justwith distance healing.
There are practitioners thatjust do intuitive or distance
healing.
Important way to work withpeople who are sick, under
quarantine, in ICU.
Distance healing is fantasticwith surgery, as long as the
(14:27):
recipient has given theirconsent and disclaimers and
everything.
Distance healing also can beused in different times.
So that gets a little bitwoo-woo but it's not locked into
the present time.
So if you're working withchildhood trauma or if you're
working with past life trauma, distance healing can actually be
(14:50):
used in the past and distancehealing can be used in the
future.
So if you have future worries, future issues, distance healing
can be used for that.
Metta meditation is loving, kindness meditation, and this is
(15:13):
an individual practice whereyou actually practice a specific
type of meditation, where youpractice loving.
And there's several notedauthors John Kabat-Zinn and
Sharon and I think I'veforgotten him, I think it's on
the reading list that really arewonderful educators on the meta
meditation, where you practiceself-love, then you practice
(15:34):
expanding that love to thosearound you and then expanding
that love to your community andthen to your world.
And I don't know.
I kind of think it's like ameditation practice that if we
could tap into a little bit morenow we'd have a more loving
world.
But the idea behind is that ifsome of us practice it, maybe
that loving vibe will reach therest of the planet somehow, and,
(15:58):
of course, with the benefits ofthese, just like with other
energy medicine, healingmodalities, non-invasive, safe,
protective loving.
And then there's a type oftherapy I recently learned about
.
I'm working on becoming acertified energy practitioner
and this is kind of whatstimulated me to talk about.
(16:19):
This is that I had to learnabout various healing modalities
beyond Reiki, and it's onecalled Shin Therapy that offers
healing, energy healing thatfocuses on trauma and emotional
balances, and then in thishandout as well, and it'll go
out with the email that I sendout, I'm going to include some
resources to learn a little bitmore about Reiki.
(16:42):
I have a book that you candownload where you can read it
and get introduced to the termsReiki 101.
And I think I've got included.
If it's not here, it's in theother handout on Reiki sessions.
If you're wanting to getstarted with that.
There are a few links that arehelpful here.
One is to a list of books thatI've created that I found
(17:04):
helpful and educational, so Ithought it'd be good to put them
together in a list.
My advice often to people isthat if you're getting started
in this world and you like toread, that's the perfect place
to start.
Just reading on these topics, taking that knowledge in at your
own pace, can be so therapeuticand a lot of times, whatever it
(17:25):
is that you might be seeking isright there just in a book.
So my reading list will beincluded.
I think it takes you a linkwhere you can download it.
And then the InternationalInstitutes of Complementary
Therapists.
This is a worldwideorganization that provides
insurance and benefits.
If you're looking for aspecific type of healing
modality, their website probablyhas it, so they have it, from
(17:49):
acupuncturists to psychics, tomediums, tarot card, reiki
healers.
Important thing is with theirwebsite.
These are insured businesses,so these are highly reputable
therapists, practitioners andbusinesses that you can trust.
So I did list their link tofind a practitioner and then
(18:10):
that link there takes you to thedoTERRA if you're wanting to
learn more, and that link doeslet you shop through the doTERRA
site without necessarily havingto sign up or fire up a
membership.
However, if you've beeninterested and want to sign up
as a doTERRA member, I will bemore than happy to help you out
Because, like I said, those oilshave been an important part of
(18:31):
my personal practice.
I work with them with clients,so if that's something that you
want to have on a regular basis, doterra is a great way and
saves you money, because ifyou're buying essential oils on
a regular basis, it actuallymakes much more sense to buy
them with doTERRA.
I love Pinterest and myPinterest link.
I pin some of my favorite pinsand, because I do play around in
(18:52):
that world, I have pins on alot of these energy healing
medicine techniques that aregood to check out, so I just put
Pinterest link there.
