Black food is worldwide, but it's a big world, and culinary storytellers are making sure we have a front seat to the who/what/when/where and why! As publisher and editor-in-chief of Cuisine Noir, a media outlet focused on reporting and sharing stories that connect the African diaspora through food, drink and travel, James Beard Award winner V. Sheree Williams is creating a cultural repository of information to make sure our food history isn't forgotten!
On this week's episode, Kahja talks with Sheree about how her adventurous spirit led her to California, comparing the food scene in different cities, balancing security and side hustling, the throughline between food, travel, and sustainability, founding her non-profit (The Global Food and Drink Initiative), preserving the origin stories of global Black foodways, defining your own journey, and remembering your "why."
Recorded in Oakland, CA.
