(00:02):
Good morning, everybody. Oh, I'm so happy.
You know why I'm happy? Because I think I finally got
this figured out and it I shouldhave figured it out earlier, but
I didn't know. You see, Wi-Fi is a bit of a
mystery for most people, including myself.
I am my own Technical Support representative and it's always
just worked the Wi-Fi anyway, sowe've been having some laggy
(00:22):
issues and here is the reason why.
My Mac mini, which sits directlybeside my MacBook Pro, decided
to go 2.4 gigahertz instead of five gigahertz, meaning there
was a maximum 10. Anyway, it went slow.
That was the source, my friend. And, and, and you can, if you
have a Mac, do this, press the option key and click on the
(00:45):
Wi-Fi 3 little lines in your menu bar.
I don't know what the heck that icon is called.
We'll call it the Wi-Fi icon because that's what it is.
So if you, if you hold the, the option key and click on that,
you get diagnostics. I had no idea.
And it tells you what you're, you're connected to.
And sure enough, I'm now connected to five gigahertz,
(01:06):
which actually was the next level of of if you, I had to log
in to my, my, my, my, what should I call it?
My my router from Rogers and I had to figure out how to split
my blended Wi-Fi SSID into a 2.4gigahertz and A5 gigahertz so I
(01:27):
could choose to Only Connect to the other one and avoid having
these issues again. So if all went well, it is
incredibly, incredibly, incredibly high chances that we
won't have laggy, weird video audio issues today.
So I'm very happy to hear or or or hope, very happy to hope for
(01:49):
success today. My name is Sean Shapiro, I'm a
former police officer, talks to you about Traffic Safety,
traffic law and police stuff. I am your your spirit guide to
the Highway Traffic Act. I am here to make your life
easier, to reduce the chances ofyou getting caught doing stuff
and things you shouldn't be doing because you didn't know
better. I want you to know better.
I want you to know all the rules.
You make your own decisions. At the end of the day, I can't
make you do something, but I cancertainly help you find the
(02:11):
right answers in your search forawesomeness.
I will take a moment just to thank my magical sponsors at
Diamond and Diamond Lawyers. They are Canada's largest
personal injury law firm. That's a big title for a big
agency, for a big law firm and also the folks at the Barrett
Legal, they do wills and, and they do tax law and they do all
(02:35):
sorts of other stuff and they are all awesome at their craft.
I have all sorts of friends thatI want to shout out to, but
these are the guys that make sure I can keep doing what I'm
doing here to help you and I thanked them for it.
If if you got questions about Traffic Safety, traffic law and
police stuff, I am your guy. So drop them in the comments.
We're currently on 9 platforms. Yes, we are on X LinkedIn,
(02:59):
TikTok, Instagram, we're on Facebook, we're on Kik, we're on
Rumble, we're on Twitch. I think that's all of them.
If there's more, say hello from where we're at.
Yeah. Good morning, Sean.
Coming in from Julie Massey, whosays, oddly enough, good
morning, Sean, I think I changedthe order of operations there
(03:19):
show. Hey, there we go.
And and Julia is, is is Julie the Julie from a reporting
center 'cause I got questions about reporting center.
Somebody sent me a message this morning that I need to get
answered and maybe there's some new things to talk about.
If, if yeah. And then Brandon says good
morning, Sean and all from Orangeville.
I'm hosting a lunch in the firstrespond.
Oh, for the first responders in Dufferin County.
(03:41):
Hope you all have an awesome day.
And he goes on to say when a chef retires, he gets more busy
apparently. Well, when a cop retires from
policing, yes, we get busy too. It's amazing how much time or
how much time you give to different projects when you are
in control of your time. And that's one of the reasons I
I left policing is to be able tohave more control over my time,
(04:03):
to be able to give it to family and family is the most important
thing out there. Whether you love them like them
occasionally get tired of them they're they're they're awesome
and that you want to appreciate them when they're around.
So that's the thing. If you're watching on Tiktok,
please do me the solid of tapping your finger on the
screen so your fingers go numb. It really does help more bring
(04:23):
more people to the party. The more people to the party,
the more questions you never thought to ask because you know
what you know and you know usually that you know what you
don't know, but you don't know what you don't know.
And that's what happens when youbring party people from other
places to, to chat about stuff and things.
They ask questions that you may not have thought about.
Stephen Bell coming in with a hi, good morning, Sean, good
(04:43):
morning to you, Steven. Steven's out in the London area.
But let's get into some TikTok questions 'cause I see them
there. I also thought I saw, oh, and I
saw Insure with Duchent. I don't know if I present, I
probably didn't present you pronounce your name properly.
But here's the question, will weget a ticket for using a mobile
phone in a coffee driveway? Depends on the province you're
(05:06):
in. In the province of Ontario, it
is not unlawful to utilize your phone and drive through because
the charge for distracted driving applies specifically to
driving on the road. Now, if that doesn't and
although paved, the roadway doesnot include the the the drive
through at McDonald's or any other establishment.
(05:26):
And I appreciate you clarifying that it's Ontario.
I am in Ontario and my specialtyis the Ontario Highway Traffic
Act. But we can look stuff up for
other jurisdictions. Now, if you are in British
Columbia or or in Alberta, they may charge you there for
distracted driving. That's a possibility, although I
don't understand why. It makes no sense.
(05:46):
It just doesn't make any sense. I don't know any copy would lay
that charge personally. I'm sure there are some that are
out there. Now, I've talked about this in
the past. I've had police officers who
watch the show in the comments and in the DMS afterwards say,
but I could charge them for careless, couldn't I?
And I'm you could, you could absolutely charge for careless
if the driving was in fact careless.
(06:06):
But if you were just getting coffee, I think you'd have a
hard time getting a conviction. Thus don't waste time.
There you go. Let's move on to the TikTok
because we have Turk Turk who has a two-part question here.
I have a question so in a fated fatal collision.
Let's try this again have a question.
So in a fatal collision someone days I think they meant someone
(06:30):
dies, but they hit and run. Wow wow wow.
I don't think I so there's a fatal collision.
Thus someone has no longer is nolonger with us.
How do you say that without triggering TikTok and they die?
What do they do? What do you mean they hit and
run and they die? I, I, I, they've asked me three
Times Now. So you struck someone, you
(06:50):
killed them and they, and, and then you ran away.
And you're asking me as the person who ran away or you're
the, you're asking on behalf of the family.
Like what's the context of the question?
Because you don't make sense. I'm not picking up what you're
putting down. Obviously police investigate and
put the case together and find out who'd done it because oddly
enough, there's things called cameras all over the place.
Yep. It's amazing how much
(07:11):
information I was involved. And I talk about this particular
case all the time because I was a scene photographer, not the
primary investigator. But a, a woman was crossing the
street from church to this bus stop and she, it was a rainy day
and she ran across the street and she was in the wrong, but
she got hit by a car and that car ran away.
Well, we did find that car and we did charge the driver.
And that's what happens. You, you get caught.
(07:34):
Tim Vusten says it's only illegal if you get caught.
No, it's illegal because it's illegal.
And if you get caught, you actually feel the wrath of that
law coming down on you. Sadie Lane's show dog says if I
got a speed camera ticket in Quebec but live in Ontario, will
it affect my credit slash Ontario license.
So automated enforcement camerasand I believe this is the same
(07:55):
in Quebec as it is or it was in Ontario.
They go against your your license plate, not your driver's
license. So it wouldn't affect your
driver's license, but it could affect your credit because
they'd come after you for payment and it may prevent you
from renewing your license plates.
That is it. That is all.
Obviously, if you've done it, you should take responsibility
or choose to dispute it and thenit's up to you what happens or
(08:19):
it's up to them or it's the process that determines.
So it's a thing. Hey, if you're watching and
you're not familiar with the show, I go live twice a week.
Used to do it five days a week, but I go twice a week now.
Answering your trafficking police questions for at least an
hour. And because I can't do it
tonight, which is my normal time, I'm doing it right here,
right now. If you've got questions about
trafficking police stuff and things, my name is Sean Shapiro,
(08:41):
a former police officer, and I'mhere to help you now.
I also want to bring to your attention the fact that I have
created a newsletter, a mailing list of sorts.
If you go to where, where I'll put up a link.
That's what we'll do. If you go to this mailing list,
you can sign up, you can sign on, and then I'll take traffic
and, and traffic law and TrafficSafety related news and put it
(09:02):
in your inbox on a regular basis.
I can't say that I'm going to doit every day.
I would very much like to do it every day, but it's unclear as
to whether or not I will have sufficient things to share every
day. So in a moment, I'll put up a
screen. Hopefully we don't completely
mess up the, the, the system. This this could, this could mess
(09:23):
up the system. OK, let's do it.
Newsletter. I'm going to do this right now
on the stream because I'm because I'm going to newsletter.
I should have prepared for this,but I didn't.
And so now everyone has to wait. What I'll come back to it a SEC.
It, it is something that I hope does good things.
I also want to be able to share with you any deals that I get.
(09:47):
If I someone who reaches out andsays, hey, we want to give your
listeners a bonus, I want to be able to share that with you in a
way that's actually going to getthe information to you.
So yeah, I, I haven't even integrated it to my website yet,
but I did send out the first episode or I guess it's not
episode, it's the edition, 1st edition.
I did that yesterday and tested it out and it's all working and
(10:10):
it's way too much information. I use a company called Beehive.
And if you're looking for a way to do it yourself, you can, you
can use Beehive too. It is, it is free for your first
2500 subscribers, I guess is what it's called.
Come on, Beehive, I'm in the wrong browser.
Anyway, I'll put it up on the screen in a little bit.
Let's go back to questions in the meantime, because that's the
(10:33):
priority. close that window right there.
OK, so we got how do people get off an impaired driver's charge?
That is a a Mad Max question andthe the answer is there.
There's no magic to it. I mean, there are people who
(10:56):
will absolutely go and spend 30,000 plus dollars on a defense
and try and waste the court's time.
And it may work for them and it may not.
But it's it's really a a situation where you hire a good
lawyer, you might have luck. And it's sad because people do
(11:19):
tend to have pretty good luck when they spend money on a
lawyer. Try scanning that, that, that
code I put up on the screen. It should work.
I'm going to test it out myself.Or right now.
I'm going to do it right now. Did it work?
Did it work? Did it work?
Yeah, it did. Cool.
Subscribe to get the ATAATTC Aska Traffic Cop newsletter.
(11:42):
Oh, I don't want TikTok jumped up.
All right. I'm glad that that's out of the
way. If it works, it should actually
flash on screen. If anyone uses it, try try the
link, see what happens. Someone subscribe, make sure it
works. All right, back to your
question, it's really sad. A lot of people will actually,
depending on the situation, evenplead it down to careless
driving, which I think is horrible.
(12:03):
I really think people need to beheld accountable and that's
something that there should be no, there should be no way of
getting out of it unless you're innocent and then you wouldn't
have been charged really in the 1st place.
Now, if you are paying attentionto the news and an an article
that I'm including in today's follow up newsletter publishing
this, it is a article that Doug Ford is talking about making the
(12:30):
the, the children or the OR at least the Child Support the
responsibility of the person whowas impaired behind the wheel,
which is something they do in the States and I think it's an
awesome idea. So Can you imagine this?
A drunk driver kills someone whotakes care of the children.
You do, drunk driver, it's goingto become your responsibility.
Now, Doug Ford and I didn't see eye to eye on automatic traffic
(12:53):
or automatic speed enforcement. Automated speed enforcement.
I'm a big fan. He is not, and he scrapped the
thing. I think it's a horrible mistake,
but this is something I can get behind.
I like the idea of the folks whodestroy lives and families being
held accountable financially in addition to everything else
because that's exactly what should happen.
OK, Brandon, Brandon the rocks. I think that's the name.
(13:21):
When you have a two person EV lane, are transports allowed to
use the passing lane on a three lane highway?
No, a left lane and and a it's not called an EV lane.
It's it's called a what's it what is it called now?
Oh, come on. It's the diamond lane.
It's the the house. I can't believe it's like the
word was just removed from my brain instantly.
(13:43):
What's going on here? It's the the rideshare.
What the heck is the Oh, come on, someone put it in the chat.
I can't believe it. You know, the words just
disappear occasionally. Well, that's what just happened
to me. So the deal is that you that
you, you can't use it. That doesn't allow you to, to
then use that lane. So HOV, thank you.
High occupancy vehicle lane. Nobody actually put it in the
(14:05):
chat, but I remembered because that happened.
Trickle down memory usage is a thing.
It eventually trickles through all the cobwebs in the noggin.
So yeah, no, the the the transports are not allowed to
use the second lane because it'snot the second lane.
It's still the left lane. The HOV lane is a separate lane
and does not count. OK, we've got Turk says they
(14:29):
repeating the same question. OK, power followed the host.
That's me. Thank you so much.
If you're watching on TikTok, ifyou're watching anywhere, please
like follow, share. It really does help us out.
And if you are not currently using the Youtubes, it's an
awesome way to get our content and you can get all the archives
of every episode. This is this is actually the
94th episode this year. So I call it season 3, which is
(14:53):
kind of season 3 is is a is a blend, but it is the 94th
episode. That means a minimum of 94 hours
this year have gone into live streaming, but I know it's
longer because very rarely do I actually stop at one hour.
I did 2 hours. I think it was last Wednesday
or, or on the 5th was two hours because I just was editing the
(15:16):
the clips and republishing it asa podcast.
And then yesterday was an hour and 40 minutes.
So yeah, that's easily double that.
OK, Tex has a question. Terry has a question.
Terry, there is a lot of discussion in the town I live
about U turns at traffic light intersections.
(15:37):
OK, what is the the discussion about as to whether or not it's
legal? Well, if there's no sign
prohibiting it, then you can legally make it AU turn at a
traffic light, assuming you havea a a green light.
A lot of people making U turns on red lights, which I do not
understand how anyone believes that that is legal.
It's not. If you're entering the
intersection on a red, you're proceeding before green and
(15:59):
possibly going to get a big ticket.
But it's it's just not a safe practice.
U turns in general are a bad idea in my opinion.
Now if you're in a small town with one horse, it really may
not interfere with anybody's movement.
So the safety factor may not be there.
But you do have to be on a greenand it has to be no turns
prohibited. OK text says can you tell me to
(16:21):
go to what? I don't get it.
He says can you tell me to go tobed but as a disappointed cop
it's being two days now I I don't get a text.
Thoughts on hit and run incidentwhere the guy changed his plate?
I I'm not familiar with this particular case.
Are you suggesting that someone had a hit and run collision
(16:42):
where they had a spare set of plates and did a James Bond
switchy swatchy right after the incident occurred?
Or went in and changed it with the ministry?
Because your plates are your plates and even if you change
them, we know who you are. However, it does prevent or make
it harder to spot the plates on the road when we're looking for
you and it does take more investigations.
So I, I, it maybe there are stolen plates and they're
(17:04):
switching because that happens alot.
Tell me more. Maybe send me a link to the to
the article. I'd love to, to read more about
that. Turk says someone is speeding
and hit my car ran. Oh, got it.
Now I'm understanding Turk's questions because it was not
clear originally. So someone was involved in a hit
and run with their car and then ran away and eventually had had
(17:28):
a head on collision with an SUV where the driver was had died.
OK, what do you want to know about that?
Like there's two collisions. Your collision was a hit and
run. Their collision was a fatal
collision, the two separate collisions part of a, of a, of
a, of a larger investigation. But I don't understand your
(17:49):
question. Like you've given me the
information that that's happened.
What do you want to know about it?
All right, moving along and we'll come back to you and oh,
thanks for the gifts we got. Lodge who?
I think it's Lodge who gave somegive some coins and diamonds.
I appreciate it. Any any monies that come into
the channel go to the Canadian organization for better Traffic
(18:09):
Safety and Education and not-for-profit that I created
when I left the Toronto police link on screen.
That's a thing. And if you're out, if you're
watching, you don't already follow.
Please do because I am here to help and I want to make sure
that you see the content And I also, you know, I appreciate
that the numbers go up. It says that what we're doing is
worthy of continuation. I question whether or not, you
(18:30):
know, if I stop doing this, would anyone care?
Well, I, I hear from people on aregular basis that they do.
And I run into people all the time saying thank you.
I, I say thank you for watching, but they say thank you for the
content, which I really like. It's not because I need the
thank yous, but because it meansa lot that you care that the
content helps you. So many people who said, oh, I
got my license because of you or, you know, I'm a better
driver or I'm 60 being driving my whole life and I still learn
(18:50):
stuff from you, which is awesome.
OK we've got lost a friend in Toronto long ago hit and run
pedestrian to semi. Sorry Lash Yeah that that that's
all too often a situation we hear about because big trucks
are different games. You play different games with
with with trucks at least you you play a game where you're
(19:13):
going to lose. I've, I've been involved with
investigations involving many dump trucks making turns, big
rigs, they just can't see you. And pedestrians sort of treat
all intersections in all vehicles the same.
And you can't. You're, you're invisible in some
situations as a, as a pedestrian.
And I talk about cars and drivers a lot and the things
(19:33):
they can do, but pedestrians have a responsibility too,
because, and this pisses the, the pedestrians off, but Traffic
Safety is a shared responsibility.
We all have a part to play. And if you play it wrong, you
will lose just because the, the, the, the, what is it called?
The right of weight. I talked about it a lot when I
was a copper. The right of weight.
(19:54):
People say who has the right of way?
I'm the pedestrian. I have the right of way.
I go. You will lose because they have
the right of weight. And that means you're going to
get squished. And you likely end up when you
get squished. It is what it is.
Now, pedestrian groups hate thatI talk like that.
But it's still reality. And I believe in speaking about
reality as opposed to the fantasies that some prefer to
live in. That's OK.
(20:15):
We don't have to all agree. But again, sorry, Elijah, for
your loss of your friend that that's, that ain't easy.
In fact, it was a pedestrian killed by a dump truck.
So a cyclist or pedestrian. It was a person who was not
protected by a vehicle that diedas a result of a collision
during COVID. Where I was the IT was the first
time I was ever on camera with the Toronto police because my,
(20:35):
my Sergeant was was tongue tied. He's like, I, I can't get this,
this, this spiel, right? I was a camera guy, never
planned on being in front of thecamera.
And then my my partner tried it and her response, she didn't do
so good and so I did it and he'slike that's it, this is your new
job. And I started doing this on
camera stuff. I should go find that video.
First time reporting about a collision.
(20:57):
OK, sunset and so sunsets in water.
I live in Alberta and drive to Ontario.
What happens if I get a traffic violation?
You get a ticket. You have the option of taking it
to court. You have the option of paying it
or having a first appearance, just like any other ticket and
any other jurisdiction. If you pay it, if you're
convicted, the consequences are the same as if you've got a a
(21:18):
Burton ticket goes on your license.
We talk to each other that theseprovinces chat what was the
offense? That's what I want to know or
what what what are you expectingthe offense to be if it hasn't
happened yet? OK, need for speeds says took
the four O 7 toll road in August.
I'm from Nova Scotia but never received the bill yet.
Maybe they're taking their time, but I'm sure they're going to
(21:39):
send you their request for monies.
I was recently in the United States and driving on their toll
system generated a wonderful bill in the mail and it said if
you pay for it by a certain date, it's 5 bucks.
That's how much I had accrued. And I got the mail because of
the strike a week when it became10 bucks because they added a
late fee. I'm like yay, $10 American
(21:59):
instead of five. So that's a thing.
But I will say that I've now gotan app for the for the New York
tolls. So they're sending me a toll
thing of a blobber for the window, a transponder.
So I'm going to be all fancy like and not spend any extra
money. I'm just leaving 25 bucks
forever until I use it again. I just like I'm going to have to
(22:19):
drive to the states just so I can use my total money that's on
my account. It does save money.
So if you're someone who frequently goes to the States,
know that you can go and get theapp on your phone and order a
transponder. Tires.
Yeah. Let's talk about tires for a
second. I'm going to come back to your
questions in just a moment. But I I really do want to talk
about tires because they're important.
(22:40):
They're the only thing between you and the road or your vehicle
on the road. And people take for granted that
your tires are just doing stuff for you.
Well, they are, but they're doing less for you than you
think. If it's not the right tire for
the right season, All seasons are not really all seasons.
They're three seasons. They kind of suck in the winter.
I grew up on them. That's all I ever had on my
(23:01):
vehicles. We didn't know any better
because someone like me wasn't here going they're not good.
They're they're as good as you got.
And for many people, that was it.
Now we have all weathers and allweathers are actually all
seasons because they cover winter as well, which means they
have the tire. And I, I should get a graphic
for this, but the tire is split by compound across the width of
the tire. And you'll have a section that
(23:23):
looks one way in the section that you know, different,
slightly different tread patternand a slightly different
compound. You might be able to visually
see the difference. And it's the Swiss Army knife of
tires because it does everythingOK a little bit, but it's not
perfect. It's not the same as having a
dedicated tire. And think about it, if you
divide your tire width into fourparts and each one handles a
(23:45):
different season, why wouldn't you want the whole tire to be
good for your season? And that's what winter tires
are. And that's the season that
you're in Now. It's cold.
This morning when I woke up was -3 And the day is going to hover
around 0. That is perfect timing for
winter tires. And as my friend from
tirebutler.ca said, or is it tire butler.com?
(24:07):
Am I giving, am I even like likegiving him props and not even
giving him the right website? I'm not a sponsor or he's not a
sponsor, but I am a friend and Ido like his stuff and I do use
this stuff. Let's see here come on wakey
wakey Bluetooth keyboard. I hate this keyboard.
I love this keyboard and I hate this keyboard.
I might just turn it into a wired keyboard because I hate
the lag of turning it on and waiting for it to to
(24:30):
itstirebutler.com and I'm I'm going to plug them just because
I I think they're they're worthyof your time and that is all Is
this going to work? Can I share the screen?
Hey, that's my face that's beingcovered.
Hang on a second, go on the other side.
There we go. So tire butler.com there we go.
(24:50):
They send a this itty bitty truck.
I don't know if that dude actually works.
I've never met them, but they send this truck to your house.
They they change your tires while you wait like or 9 while
you wait, while you're busy doing stuff at home.
You can be in the toilet and they're changing your tires.
You can be working from your Home Office and they're changing
your tires. And as my friend says, Jack
(25:10):
Jack's my friend, he says they don't they, they, they do tire
stuff. But were they what they really
do is, is, is sell you time because they you could be at
work, you could be at play you you're not spending three hours
in a tire shop waiting. And that's what I like.
So the fact that they come to you, I think this is the best
thing since sliced bread. Yes, just saying free plug to my
(25:30):
buddy. OK, moving back to to stuff.
Get the right tires for the right job.
That's that's the whole point ofmy whole thing about tires.
And yes, it's not too late. Just do it.
OK moving line scow wag Turk anddon't cry.
Thanks for the follows. My tiny home life.
(25:50):
I'm really interested in this tiny home stuff.
I've been watching really cool videos on TikTok.
You create stuff. I want to watch videos about
your tiny home. OK, how do you feel about all
the blackout tinting going on everywhere?
Really. Seems dangerous.
Or seems really dangerous. Yeah, it is.
In fact, when you black out the tint or you tint the vehicle to
the point where it's where, as they say, it's murdered out.
I think it looks awesome and it's totally illegal.
(26:11):
You cannot black out your vehicle.
You have to be able to see in asa police officer, as a member of
the public, for safety. You have to be able to see in
and see out. A window is for transmitting
light, not blocking light. This isn't, you know, there's no
reasonable expectation of privacy in your vehicle in the
1st place. Now the the windows directly
behind the driver, the rear windows, the rear passenger or
(26:32):
the back, you can, you can paintthat solid with a roller if you
want, but the windows directly left and right of the driver and
the windshield have regulations. Now the windshield in Ontario
cannot be tinted at all. Nothing.
Not even a tint strip across thetop.
And that changed as a 2017. So if your vehicle was
manufactured in 2017, you can't have nothing on your windshield.
Nothing. If it's the windows left and
(26:53):
right of the driver, you can have up to 30% light blockage.
That is not what most people call 30% tint because they would
some the numbers are all skewed. If you say 30% tint, some people
think 30% of light is getting through.
Some people think 30% of light blockage.
Well, the numbers in terms of the law are talking about
blockage because you need to have 30%.
(27:14):
You can have no more than 30% light blockage because you have
to have 70% VLT or visible lighttransmission that's not that
dark. If you have legal tint, I can
see you and I can see you while you're digging for gold.
Your finger died, you know, in your nose until the the knuckle.
But you know, you do you. If if you're going to pick your
nose, just be bold and do it. Don't worry about tint, but
(27:36):
that's another story. 5% tint people think, oh I'm only
tinting 5%, No, that's 95% blockage in most situations,
only allowing 5% visible light transmission.
Totally illegal. If that were the case and I was
on the road and I pulled you over, I would pull your license
plates and charge you for driving an unsafe motor vehicle
in addition to the charge of obscure the interior of your
(27:56):
motor vehicle. There you go.
That's what I would do and that's what many officers do on
the regular. It is totally dangerous and it's
not just about officer safety. I'm all for officer safety, but
people try and make fun of cops and say they want to see in so
they can see the drugs I'm smoking, the phone I'm typing
on, or the gun that's on my passenger seat.
That's a good reason not to tintyour windows because it does up
(28:18):
the anxiety level of the officerwho's investigating you because
now the unknown in the car is a serious risk to their safety,
which means it's at risk to yoursafety.
But that's not what I'm talking about.
What I'm talking about is the non verbal communication.
That's when I'm looking at you and you're looking at me and you
know I'm looking at you and you know I'm not looking at you.
Now that's non verbal, right? When I look at a pedestrian
(28:39):
who's crossing the street and they look at me and we have that
moment where we go, do I know you?
Are you going to run me over? That's the moment, right?
Non verbal communication. It's an important thing.
So yeah, it's totally unsafe andwe're going to move on because
I've gotten way too deep down the rabbit hole on this
particular thing. And by the way, thanks to Akilah
Draconis, we we met up last weekat the IKEA and he gave me a
patch, which is in my jacket andnot yet mounted to my jacket,
(29:01):
but it will be at some point mounted somewhere.
And it is the rabbit hole patch that he bought for me.
And I appreciate it. It was, it's a very kind gift
that he meant to give me months ago that we just haven't been
able to connect in the same airspace, literally.
OK, moving on and thank you Tracy for acknowledging Turk for
spamming for what she was doing, trying to know stuff.
(29:21):
RT jokes one says why are there not more roundabouts when they
are proven to reduce congestion? You, you have, you have really,
really opened up a can of worms for me.
My name is Shawn Shapiro, I'm a former police officer who talks
about Traffic Safety, traffic law and police stuff.
Just a quick shout out to Diamond and Diamond lawyers.
They're one of the sponsors of the show.
(29:41):
Thank you to them. Canada's largest personal injury
lawyer, man, we're not, they're not physically large.
They're, they're companies, not one person who's just really
big. But, but let's talk about the,
the roundabouts that, that I, I have such a love hate
relationship with roundabouts. They're both safer and dangerous
all at the same time because when people don't know how to
(30:04):
use them, it's like playing chicken.
And I do play chicken with them.I, I, I, I err on the side of
you better know what you're doing because I have a dash Cam
and I'm, I'm going this way. So if you don't stop, we're
going to, we're going to meet inthe middle.
But that's because I can be an ass at times.
And I think that that is me educating them.
If I don't, if I don't yield to them when I have the right of
way, because I'm not required toyield to them, I think they,
(30:26):
they learn quickly that they have to stop.
And some of them look really panicked.
I should include some of the dash Cam footage of people doing
dumb stuff when I'm in a roundabout with them.
But the deal is that you, you, you have to yield to those who
are in the roundabout, which nobody seems to understand.
And some of these roundabouts that are designed for safety
have such high Bush tree and other growth that you cannot see
(30:46):
on the other side. Thus, you are traveling at a
speed which I know people say you have to get down to about 15
kilometers an hour. Well, I can tell you that that's
not accurate. And I will double down and say
with the removal of automated speed enforcement, you're going
to see people trying to go just how to see how fast they can go
in a roundabout and, and they'regoing way faster.
So then they find the pedestrianon the other side that they
(31:08):
didn't see because of the obstruction and they slam on the
brakes. This, this is, is, is not good.
That's what it is. It's not good.
So roundabouts really great in some areas.
They definitely reduce congestion in my neighborhood
has them. I, I kind of love the fact that
they, that they're there in the, when they're there when nobody
else is around because it means I don't have to do much.
(31:30):
But then there's the people who like you can get stuck at a
roundabout forever because if the people who are entering the
roundabout are, are tailgating, there's no gap.
Well, you're just a person yielding to the sea of people
crossing through. I don't know, I, I'm, I'm, I'm,
I'm iffy, I'm, I'm wishy washy. I don't know if I like it or
not. I definitely see some issues
(31:51):
when there's not a lot of knowledge surrounding them.
But enough of this backing out of the rabbit hole called
roundabouts. But you do get around faster in
general. OK, thanks to my tiny home life
and RT jokes and don't cry all who jumped in and even Johnny
who said carpooling. But thank you for the HIV lane
when I was lost at for words earlier, as well as Jess.
(32:14):
Oh, all you guys are awesome. OK, Don't cry.
Says you always have interestingtopics.
I have interesting topics because y'all bring up
interesting topics. I appreciate you all.
And that's why I asked for your participation.
If you've got questions, if you want to know stuff and things
about Traffic Safety, traffic law and police stuff, there are
no stupid questions other than the ones you don't share with
us. Because if you don't share with
(32:34):
us, we don't get the benefit of your of your needing to know
stuff. Yeah, the thing Tanisha coming
in from Kik says. Yo, what's up?
Can you please reply to me on chat instead of my mic because
her naughty cat broke her headphone sometimes.
I don't. I don't think that Tanisha is a
real person. I think that Tanisha is either a
(32:54):
scammer or a spammer. But what do you think?
You tell me. Yeah.
No, we're not playing that game.Stephen Bell says.
My hearing ads are, oh, my hearing aids are Bluetooth.
So when I drive, can I have my phone mounted and answer my
phone and still hear the emergency vehicle so that I can
pull over so they can go by me in a roundabout way?
(33:18):
We're talking about headphones, right?
Because let's face it, modern day hearing aids are headphones.
They're Bluetooth. You can you can connect them for
for transparency mode. You can connect them for
listening to music in your telephone.
I I think they're really, they're medical marvels.
My buddies who have new hearing aids are bionic people.
They can, they can focus the microphones to hear who they're
(33:40):
with and and ignore everybody else around them.
In a restaurant, they can hear better than I can because they
can get rid of the noise. But they're, they're definitely
could prevent you from hearing other things if you were busy
bopping along to music. And is that an issue?
Well, legally, no, because deaf people, absolutely deaf people
who have no hearing at all can legally drive.
You don't need to worry about that in Ontario.
(34:01):
It's not against law. And, and, and, and frankly, no
one's going to know if you have a hearing aid on if you're
listening to music for them. They're just not going to know
it. It may be the case.
They're not going to know. So in Alberta, in British
Columbia, you're not allowed to have two headphones on, from my
understanding, but you have two earphones on that are medical
devices. So it's it's, it's funny.
How would they prove it? I think it's a bit silly that
(34:25):
they even go after that, but that's another story.
The deal is that in Ontario, youcan cover both ears completely
with headphones and it's legal now.
Is that a disservice to you and others?
OK, ideally, being able to hear emergency vehicles is kind of
important, but that's where you have these these these these
things. Oh, hoes.
I think that's what they're called in Spanish.
(34:46):
I'm working on my Duolingo and the the deal is if you see the
flashing lights when you're regularly checking your mirrors,
you're going to see the police and fire and ambulance and move
over anyway. Yeah, it's a thing.
OK, Mike Fernandez 272 says hi. There's a street that has no
left hand turn between 3:00 and 6:00 PM, but people continually
ignore it. How can we change that?
(35:07):
Well, Mike, the first thing to do is, is talk to if you're in
the city of Toronto 311, if you're talking to if you're.
That's one way to make sure the signing is sufficient.
If they're just ignoring the signage and it's not a
deficiency that they don't know, then talk to your local division
complaints coordinator. They there's a traffic
complaints guy or girl or personor uniform wearing individual
(35:31):
who who can take a complaint. But you can also do this online
with the Toronto police and mostpolice services across the
region or the the province will be able to take your complaint
online and then assign an officer, at least put it on
their radar so they can spend some enforcement time in that
area. It's the thing if you're not
seeing any change or if they say, Gee whiz, we can't do it,
(35:52):
maybe take the social media, maybe become an influencer and
say, hey, folks, this is dangerous.
This is illegal and maybe peoplewon't like you.
I say a lot of things that make people say you're not nice.
You're telling me, no, we don't like no, no is not nice.
But no is one of the nicest words you can say.
I was told that once about raising children and let's talk
about this, you know, drivers, some of them athletic children.
(36:12):
So that's how to get unfollowed quick.
OK, so my name is Sean Shapiro. I'm a former police officer who
talks about Traffic Safety, traffic, a lot of police stuff.
And if you want to know stuff and things, well, ask me and
we'll talk about it. Let's see, what do we got?
Oh, we have ants. Anch.
Anch. I think it's Anch.
And they want to know how they can prepare themselves.
(36:34):
Oh, by the way, Ben and Ben Anderson says good morning, Sean
from Belleville. Good morning and let's get back
down to the answer question. How can I prepare myself before
going to Academy so I can ace itin there?
You know, acing it is is you, you want to be on the top 25%
(36:54):
ideally if if you're with the Toronto police because you got a
pay bonus when you come back. You want to do the best you can
because you want to be the best you can.
But don't stress out about the numbers.
Passing is important. Stress out about the absorption
of information. Understanding it is better than
memorizing it and regurgitating it quickly.
You really want to understand itin a relatable way so you can
apply it properly. And that's not just the law.
(37:16):
It's everything that you're going to pick up there because
your life depends on it and so does everyone else's when you
get on the street. So be involved.
Be involved in class, ask questions.
Be the, be the, the what if guy.If you have to ask for extra
help, instructors, oddly enough, will give you the time of day
because they care about you too.I, I got to say, policing and
education are, are so intertwined and amazing.
(37:41):
Police officers who who get intothe roles of, of training are
special. They really are.
Take advantage of that of, of, of access to them.
Don't take advantage of them. Don't take advantage of the
access to them because they're awesome That and train
physically so you you you're fresh and sleep well and and and
do everything you got to do to be the best you can be.
(38:02):
What is poverty Bay West says question how far can someone
drive in the center turning lane?
Hopefully making their turn. Most go 50 meters plus.
I've cherished people in the past with misusing a center
lane. It's not intended for you to
drive beyond that of the paintedareas where the turning lane
begins. It's a multi use lane at that
point and you could be seeing all sorts of issues.
So I don't know if there's is a specific number, but the officer
(38:25):
would articulate what they observed and why they would lay
the charge and I would hope thatmore officers make that charge.
Now it's one thing to say the the turning lane is full, thus
the cars are now stacking in themulti use lane.
In that scenario I would say it's reasonable.
But if you're traveling past a kilometer worth of cars in order
to get to the front because you don't want to wait in traffic.
(38:47):
You are now misusing that centerlane as a Dr. thru lane.
And you are looking to get into a collision because the person
up ahead that you're passing or one of the 25 cars, they're
waiting to enter it at the appropriate entry point.
And if they decide to jump out and make their way down at a
reasonable spot whilst you are driving, you know, 25 kilometers
in traffic using that lane, well, you're in the wrong.
(39:08):
So I've gone down the rabbit hole a little bit on this.
Does that help? I, I think I've covered it, but
let me know that was on Instagram.
Looking over here storm games and vlogs coming in through on
YouTube. What's your tips for nude winter
drivers like me? This is this is, this is, this
(39:29):
is a good topic. Tips for when you're driving,
slow down, number one. First of all, prepare yourself.
It's going to take longer. So when you're in the mindset of
things are going to take longer, leave earlier, go slower.
Turns are kind of where most problems occur.
So slower is better, especially in turns.
(39:50):
Those are the big ones. Also pack the appropriate gear.
Big clunky winter boots. Not so good for being inside of
a car, really good for being outside of the car.
So bring both. I would wear driving shoes
whilst driving and switch to bigclunky boots while going into
knee deep stuff. I have my my giant winter boots
that usually live in the trunk because nine times out of 10
(40:11):
it's only when I'm clearing the snow that I want them and then I
want to bring them with me in case snow happens to fall again.
But while I'm driving. You don't want that pedal
confusion or the press with the giant foot pads of your big
outdoor boots and you end up getting multiple.
Pedals being depressed at the same time collisions happen
there too. Winter tires is great.
(40:31):
Winter tires are great. Use winter tires.
But what else can I tell you about it?
Clear the snow completely from your vehicle, top, bottom, front
side, license plates, lights, everything and and repeat that
when you are finished. What does Zach want to know?
If your department has take homevehicles, can an officer pull
(40:52):
you over going to or from work? Yes, because they're police
officers 24/7. They're always police officers.
When you get home, you don't take off that badge and stop
having the authority of a policeofficer.
You are responsible as a police now in your jurisdiction, the
laws of your state. And I'm assuming you're an
American just because take home cars is more an American thing
than it is a Canadian thing. Although we had that and we do
(41:15):
have police officers with take home vehicles.
But even in my personal vehicle. Can I pull you over in my
personal vehicle as a police officer?
Yeah. I mean, it's frowned upon.
It's not necessarily safe. But do I have the lawful
authority to stop you as a police officer?
I'm a police officer. Yeah.
In fact, if I was witnessing something happening, if I was
there was a crime occurring, notonly do I have the authority to
(41:38):
intervene, I have the responsibility to intervene.
And I could be on charges for failing to do my duty even if
I'm off duty. I said duty three Times Now.
OK, OK, Hope that helps. Oh, excellent.
Nicholas Rizzi has replaced the plutonium.
(41:58):
Replace the plutonium with pinball machine parts.
Excellent reference to an amazing, amazing movie.
A series, in fact. What's the crime for harvesting
plutonium? He beats me.
I have to go back to the future.OK, let's get back into some
other things. TikTok, because we've been
ignoring you for a few. Just a couple.
(42:22):
If you're watching on TikTok, please tap the screen so your
fingers go down. It really helps bring more
people to the party. The more people to the party, we
get more interesting questions and sometimes comments from
Nicholas Rizzi, who says plutonium in his questions or
comments or vague references to movies I've seen.
Don't cry says do you think people would support having
ignition interlocks if they had a reasonable BAC limit?
(42:45):
Oh, do they not support them nowlike 0 is is is where do you
mean for all vehicles? Oh interesting.
So for anyone who doesn't know what an ignition interlock
system is, If you've been convicted of impaired operation
and you want to get back on the road more quicker, like you can
apply for and pay for the installation.
(43:07):
If you're approved of an ignition interlock system, which
means you have a little breathalyzer device which you
have to blow and have zero bloodalcohol content in order to
start your vehicle. And randomly as you drive, it
beeps and says, put it in or we're shutting you down and you
have to blow again. Now, of course, people do lots
of different things to get away with driving while under the
(43:27):
influence. They say, hey, little Bobby, can
you come with me? I'm going to the store and I get
my smokes and can you just blow into this?
And that's not what you think. It's the machine to start the
car. Yeah, as sleazy as that may
sound, people do it. And, you know, they they, they,
they still get around. I I charge someone for driving a
rental car. They went to Mercedes to drop
off their car. They were on charges or had been
convicted of the the impaired driving stuff and they had their
(43:53):
they were driving a rental car with no BA, with no interlock
device. They required it.
So guess what? We impounded the car because
that's what happens. It was not good.
They were not happy. But do I think that every car
should have it? I think it's excessive.
I've never I I don't drink and drive.
I don't drink. I I don't want to have to blow
into a bloody device to turn my car on.
(44:14):
I think that would be excessive. But I think that it should be a
lower bar for, for like, if you've been convicted once, I
think you should be interlocked for life.
At that point, we no longer trust you.
Yeah, there we go. Oddly enough, some people don't
learn. OK, moving on interesting car I
never really thought about this, but I love I love that people
bring up stuff like that that I've never thought of and then I
(44:35):
think of it and then I go I now have an opinion which I will be
subject to change because I I will I will think more of it.
Storm games and vlogs is a dad joke for the end of stream when
we flagged that so I don't forget it if you got a dad joke.
We haven't done dad jokes in a couple days because you know
Kayla's being busy with with stuff and things so yeah let me
know and and Toronto's too. I see you he's got a question
(44:58):
and we'll we'll, we'll get you in just one second just one
second. If you're not already following
me, please do please like share and subscribe.
I, I never we're on 9 different platforms right now.
So wherever you're at, please dothat and please go and either
screen capture and then you. I didn't even know you could do
this. You can screen capture to our
(45:21):
codes and if you screen capture me now if you can go back and
scan the newsletter code in the top right is the top right hand
corner for you. Yeah, and that will take you to
the brand new just created QR code for, for scanning.
No, for newsletter. First issue I, I sent early in
(45:41):
the morning and, or actually late last night it was, it was
around midnight and I'm going todo a follow up this afternoon.
But I'm basically curating a list of interesting Traffic
Safety, traffic law and, and safety stuff along with any kind
of deal I can find you. If I can find something that's
interesting, I'll share it with you because I care and I can see
two people have already scanned it, but you can jump on that
too. Not spam.
(46:03):
I'm not going to send you garbage, but I will take Daily
News and send it. So you should hear from me at
most once a day, except for today on the launch where I'm
doing it twice and and then you know, it might be sporadic,
might be a few times a week. Anyway, we'll come back to that
eventually. That link will live on the the
website askatrafficcop.ca. OK, back to some stuff.
(46:25):
Should I fight a careless driving ticket?
I got? Were you driving carelessly?
What was the what happened stealth.
It's possible that you should ifyou're innocent.
And at very least I'll I'll tellyou this.
Careless driving has forever andever been the blanket charge
that coppers lay. Oh, you got into a collision?
Must have been careless. You might have been falling too
(46:46):
close there. There may have been a a lesser
offense that would have been appropriate, but coppers tend to
and have been instructed to by the courts lay that charge.
Now let me rephrase, because it's not the courts so much as
the prosecutors. I will tell you a story.
Once Upon a time, I charge someone for an appropriate
charge similar to that of followtoo close.
(47:07):
The prosecutor, who I did not like, and that's why I'm happy
to share this, told me you are making work for me.
You should charge careless. That way I can negotiate away
the charge of careless to the charge of follow too close or
another lesser and included offense.
And then we, you know, don't have to go to trial.
(47:27):
Well, no. The justices of the peace have
come out and said we want policeofficers to allay the
appropriate charge. In fact, this event, this took
place just after a memo went around from the head justice
saying we want you to charge people with the appropriate
charge, not the blanket charge. I take direction fairly well.
So I did that. I charged with the appropriate
(47:49):
charge and continued to do that for the rest of the time that I
was a police officer laying charges because I believe that
it's appropriate to charge appropriately.
Why would I give you the big honkin charge when I can give
you the charge of exactly what you did?
Now, sometimes careless is appropriate and that is when I
would lay it. But if your careless driving
charge was not appropriate, thenby all means go and fight it.
(48:09):
If it was appropriate, then I don't know what to tell you.
You might be able to negotiate it down to a lesser charge
because that tends to be the MO.Let me know if you need more on
that. Nick Annabel and a edible
edible. Anyway, the hand countdown
timer, why doesn't the light turn yellow at 0?
(48:31):
The hand countdown timer is is Idon't know what you're saying
that the. So first of all, the hand
countdown timer is for pedestrians.
The yellow is separate, right? The hand countdown timer is to
tell people already in the intersection how much time they
have to exit said intersection safely.
It's meant for people who are elderly who have mobility
(48:53):
issues. It's not meant to be anything
for anyone who's able bodied. It's not a how much time do I
have to still cross when that hand countdown timer or the
countdown timer begins? That means you should not be
entering the intersection literally.
Now the yellow light is for vehicles and we know that, you
know this. And Brian Max is calling Brian
(49:14):
Max is, is, is the, is the guy from at Brian Max, I should put
his stuff on the screen. And he is a, a, a, a, a video
YouTube guy, writer of things, words mostly.
And he, he's a car review guy. He's a journalist.
Yeah. And I don't usually go live on
Wednesdays at 10 AM. So he, he jumped in to call and
(49:36):
I ignored his call. And that's why I'm there.
So back to countdown timers. Yeah.
Yeah. The yellow light means stop
unless it's unsafe to do so. And it is a effectively a red
light. It's just the just before.
So I I couldn't tell you why thecountdown timer doesn't sync,
but it's probably because you need a few seconds longer to get
pedestrians off the road. I'm just guessing.
(49:59):
Would you? Oh, I like that.
Tap your screen Tapping is clapping.
That's funny. I like that.
Tracy. Thank you.
OK, Oh, dash cameras, by the way, get dash cameras.
Dred says our speed, are all speed cameras really off up?
According to all media sources, the the ban of cameras is really
(50:24):
in play. And it was as a Friday for my
understanding. So that is a thing.
And I'll tell you, people are speeding up as a result of it.
I'm seeing people go faster. It ain't cool.
Oh, Akila Jaconas, the one and only has jumped in.
What's going on, my brother? I was just talking about you and
the magical patch of going down rabbit holes for which you
presented me at IKEA. Yes.
(50:48):
What is this question we've got at the end?
Sorry. At the rental company, whoever
let them have a car when they have a DOI should have been
fired, reprimanded. They don't they or aren't they
supposed to run licenses? They can see your status.
They can't. And they would have had to know
what the I for interlock condition is and I bet you that
most people don't have you ever looked at the conditions on the
back of your license? Do you know what they mean?
(51:09):
Have a look at your license. Most people don't know.
OK, no, I don't want to have thebest reviewers people on.
I get the comments I get on twitch and kick are all people
saying I want to sell you followers.
OK, I'll come back here in one second.
But I want to see Toronto Stu says hi Sean question.
My sister got on a legal left turn visit and completely left.
(51:34):
I'm I'm assuming visit is ticketleft turn ticket.
However, the officer never entered the ticket into the
system so she could not pay it online.
What should she do? And she agreed that it was her
fault. OK, if you if if the ticket was
never entered into the system, there's no ticket, it doesn't
exist. It was it would it would be
gone, would be finished, it would be over.
(51:55):
Confirm with the like, now you've had some more time, make
sure it wasn't processed and that was in fact cancelled and
then there's nothing to do. She said or Toronto studio goes
on to say she ends up going to court and paying the ticket.
However, it's on the officer to enter it.
She paid a ticket that was neverentered.
She might be eligible for the money to be returned because if
(52:15):
it was never entered, they ain'tno ticket.
So how they accepted money for it, I don't know.
That sounds sketch. Tips for people who are applying
Preparing to apply to become a police officer in Canada.
Stay fit, stay in school, make sure you do a lot of
volunteering in your community. Make sure you're representing
and and committed to the community you want to serve.
(52:37):
It's important. It's a big deal and be careful
who you hang out with. Some people are are not good.
Full metal bacon started following me.
Awesome, that's a great name. OK I got an exhaust ticket but
he don't use a decibel meter. I always thought they had to use
one. Depends on the jurisdiction.
You're in Ontario. Unnecessary noise is me saying
(52:59):
that is unnecessary or you're, you know, you're revving your
gas even with a stock pipe that's unnecessary.
If there is no pipe and I can verify through any means that I
can articulate in court that your pipe is not stock or is
creating unnecessary noise and is is improper, is is not
preventing the smoke and noise that it's supposed to.
(53:21):
That is sufficient. It becomes a tribal matter.
You say he didn't use a meter. I would get up and say I don't
need a using meter. I was able to see by the people
who were standing around the street, They were all reacting
to the noise. It could be heard from a block
away. It's what I, you know, caused my
drew my attention to the vehicleand why I pulled up.
I had a look. I couldn't see any visible
baffle. It appeared to be a straight
pipe all the way through or it was so bloody noisy that it was
(53:45):
unbearable to listen to like it.It doesn't take much to get a
conviction and you, you will more than likely get convicted.
I'm just predicting the outcome now.
Do you have any legal muffler? Is it just you're looking for a
way around it or do you like have a stock muffler and you
weren't doing anything wrong andyou think you're fairly being
(54:07):
targeted? O2O4EJ says.
Why are radar detectors, radar radar detectors illegal?
Well, they prevent people from or they prevent police from
properly enforcing the law. How do I mean that?
The deal is that if you have a radar or a detector device that
(54:30):
interferes with one's ability tomeasure the speed in which you
are travelling or, or, well, what it does is it makes roads
unsafe because you change your behavior temporarily to avoid
detection. Thus you are looking for ways to
get away with speeding. And that ain't OK.
It ain't OK. So they're illegal because
(54:50):
they're illegal because they've been written down and such in
law and you have to follow the law.
I know that's the simplest answer.
It's it's not legal. So it's not legal.
It's because they promote speeding and poor driving
behavior. So police have the authority to
search and seize. They can go into your vehicle
and look for it if they have thebelief that you have that in
(55:12):
your vehicle and then they can take it and they can do that
with their screwdriver or whatever tools they have at
their disposal. Very often when you say get out
of your car, we're searching your vehicle, looking for it.
And here's my multi tool, which I will happily use to prior
Dashboard apart. Amazingly, the device arrives in
your hand instantly here. Yeah, Bumpers.
(55:35):
They don't want to take the sensors off bumpers, you know,
by force for the jammers and whatnot.
People get funny about that. Yeah, we can take it apart.
You can put it together on your own time.
Even transporting them. You're not allowed to even you
can't buy, sell, transport, nothing very specifically listed
in law. Peter says.
Hey, Sean. Hey, Peter, how you doing?
Good to see you. Are smoke license plates illegal
(55:57):
in Ontario? Do cops really care?
Yes, they're illegal and yes, cops do care.
They prevent the the readability, which I've been
told is not a word, but I'm now convinced it is legibility.
You have to be able to read thatplate, whether it be by camera
or by officers. Vizione and their Ohos trying to
use the Spanish. Yeah, the deal is that they're,
(56:20):
they're illegal. It's $110 fine.
You can't even put a clear one on.
So the, the, the smoked ones areeven more of an issue.
ALPR readers can get through some of them, but it really does
interfere with toll systems and they're just not allowed.
So yeah, I, I, I pulled lots of people over, usually to start
with a warning, but if I got attitude, it became a ticket.
(56:42):
And Tracy goes on to say, I got pulled over for a clear plate.
I always like the example of me pulling over a young lady for a
smoked plate with the full intention of simply saying, hey,
you should get rid of that. But I got such a mouthful from
that person that they got a ticket and I lent them my tool
kit to take it off, which was myoriginal plan without the
(57:03):
ticket. But they were really Dinks.
Well, DINK is dual income. No kids.
They weren't Dinks. They were they were a holes.
OK, Joe says, what do you think of cops not needing to show up
to prove anything? Just tickets, Joe, it's a good
question. I was following along this
article, but it's something thatI was aware of for years now.
And what they're basically saying is we've got this piece
(57:25):
of paper that is by law enough to proceed on trial.
So it the deal is that people just play games in court to roll
the dice to, to see if the officer doesn't show up because
of whatever emergency is is there.
And that's enough for them in many cases to have the tickets
(57:48):
thrown out. That's what it's being forever.
That's what happens in Toronto. But in New York, and I think
it's Halton, they said no, no, no, no, we can proceed.
We can have a trial. So now people are like, what do
you mean that free get, get out of jail free thing isn't the
thing. Put it over.
I think that's what they're doing.
I've not been in court for this, but I think they're just saying
that we have enough to proceed. We're ready to go.
We're happy to have a trial based on this information.
(58:09):
Let's go and, or we can put it over to another day.
I'm assuming that's where it is.I, I don't see a problem here.
There's a document, an allegation by a police officer.
They have the opportunity for disclosure.
If you don't have disclosure, come back on another day.
You'll see the entire case. The only difference is the
officer not reading or recallingfrom, you know, their
(58:29):
independent recollection of the events, but they've got
everything they need or they need to apply for disclosure.
But this rolling the dice thing saying I'm going to get out of
the ticket, so the officer is not going to be there.
That's crap. You're taking a cop off the road
to play with the game or to playa game where you don't want to
be responsible. So I kind of like the idea of
being able to proceed based on the ticket alone.
(58:49):
But I am not a legal scholar. I know lots of stuff and things,
but I'm not a lawyer, I'm not a paralegal, and I'm not a justice
to the peace. I don't know if this is wrong as
a, you know, institutionally if,if the legal system is doing the
wrong thing, I would think they're doing the right thing.
If the entire provincial courts in those jurisdictions are doing
(59:12):
it, then the JPS who are qualified to be sitting on the
bench are saying, OK, it must belegal.
Even if the paralegals and folkswho are having convictions
registered against their clientsor not getting their freebie to
get out of court don't like it. And that's really, I think what
it is. I don't think it's against the
law. I think it's appropriate really,
(59:35):
But I think that I I think that people don't like it because
that was the get out of jail free cops not going to show up.
You can roll the dice. I like that.
Listen, it hasn't been working for people for a long time since
video court when police officerscould lay the lay the charge and
then show up. You know, did you see the video
of the cop in, in, I think it was Boston or, or, or Chicago?
(59:59):
And he, he's, he's. The camera was wider angle than
he thought. He's wearing his uniform shirt
sitting somewhere, but he had nopants on.
I think they had to blur it out. They did.
They blurred it out on TV because, you know, his twigging
berries were were on camera. That's a bad deal, man.
Like at least put at least put something on, put a towel over
your junk. But whatever some people the
(01:00:23):
reason rules exist. Yeah, from now on, all officers
will wear pants when going to video court.
I mean, The thing is you have tosay or put in print.
Jerry Joe 789 says now the speedcameras are not in operation.
I saw a person yesterday blowingthrough a stop sign and going
(01:00:44):
more than 60 in a 30 kilometer an hour school zone.
What can we do as members of thepublic to stop this?
Well, stay out of their way because that's why they can't.
That's why speed limits are there is to make it safer for
everybody and why the cameras were there to stop ask.
Well, anyway, I'm, I, I'm seeingit too.
And unfortunately I'm not psychic, but I knew this was
(01:01:08):
going to happen. So thank you for sharing.
Everyone should be paying attention and everyone should
bombard the, the, the premier's office with, with letters
thanking him for taking away these cameras and putting their
children's lives at risk and, and their elderly and seniors
and their own lives at risk. This was inevitable, inevitable.
Everybody in the Traffic Safety space said this was going to
(01:01:30):
happen. It's happening and it's egg on
the premier's face. I like him as an individual.
I think this was a really stupiddecision.
OK, boom, boom, boom. What is this?
Oh, what? Oh, this is a quote.
I'm like, I don't know if he's talking to me, if he's talking
to somebody else, but this was acable quote.
(01:01:50):
I've logged it for later if the offense date and when the court
date is is over 18 months, it should be dismissed.
You can apply for an 11 B application to have it
dismissed. It's not automagically
dismissed. And there there's always issues
(01:02:11):
like that there. You can make the application
because it used to be 12 months and I think it was up to 18
months. But yeah, it's an 11 B
application at that point. And you state as to why it
should be dismissed and it mightbe.
That's where provincial offenseswere.
OK, oh, OK, we got some questions here.
I'll flag this one. I'll come back in a second
(01:02:32):
because these are good questions.
OK, I want to I'm way behind on TikTok, like way behind.
OK, 48 laws of power says I havea question.
Oh, they eventually get to it. We'll come back to you.
Hey Sean, what would happen if Idon't have my proof of insurance
with me just by license and I'm pulled over?
If you don't have your proof of insurance, the officer can
(01:02:52):
either charge you or tell you tofollow up with it, but
technically you're responsible for having it there and you
should be charged for failing tosurrender it.
Nowadays you have access to it over an app.
You got a picture of it, and you're still eligible for a
ticket if you provide proof. That isn't proof, right?
If you have the number in your notes file, it's great, but you
(01:03:13):
still are responsible for the proof of insurance, and that's a
insurance card or an app to do that.
You could get charged $65 for not surrendering it because
that's what the charge is. But you know most most coppers
are pretty easy going. You also have to have your
registration. Random question for you.
Can I send you the live? I rang yesterday to see what you
(01:03:34):
saw. Sure send me a link.
OK, unknown says, Hey Sean, whatwould happen if I don't have my
I just read that what should I do if I got a ticket wrongly
under my license and suspended? Fight it if you got it wrongly,
if you're innocent. And that's, that's the whole
point of the court system. If you are not guilty, you
(01:03:55):
should either respond, representyourself or get representation
and go to court if you're in fact wrongly.
A lot of people say I'm wrongly.I, I, I wasn't doing 50 over, I
was doing 40 over. I was wrongly.
No, that's, that's an error or you were still speeding, you
know, anyway. Hi, can I ask a question why
school buses do not have seatbelts for kids and don't get
(01:04:17):
tickets? Well, they don't have.
First of all, there's an exemption for city buses and
school buses to not require seatbelts.
And, and there's there's also studies that suggest that the
way that those are constructed, they don't need them.
They're compartmentalized vehicles that the now other
schools of thought say that's wrong and new school buses are
being outfitted with them. But the law currently has an
exemption for them. I've I've often asked a
(01:04:39):
question, but but think about city buses.
You can stand in a city bus. Where's the seat belt?
How do you not charge that person?
But you're going to now charge someone in a buses don't require
them. That's just the simple thing.
It ain't a thing. It's a thing that it ain't a
thing. But thanks to the question,
Zach, he's calling back again. Let's let's answer him for a
(01:05:00):
second. Hello, Brian, I'm live.
How are you doing? I'll call.
I'll call you back. I'm I'm, I'm, I'm 6 minutes into
the hour, but the next hour. So we're still going, but I'll
call you back shortly. He's like, he's probably not the
best time to call you. Then why you quit your job?
(01:05:20):
That's Neff C11. Who asks?
I left the police service early because of family reasons.
That's the easiest way to answerit.
There were some decisions that you have to make as you approach
50, and family is the number onechoice, in my opinion, always.
And I have reasons to be closer to home on a regular basis for
(01:05:41):
the benefit of my family. OK.
Oh, I got to scroll. OK.
And I found out I got accepted to Peel Regional Paramedics
today. Congratulations, Nate.
Wait, wait, yeah, it's we we appreciate and congratulate you
on your move towards public service.
(01:06:02):
It is the best thing ever. I and and also you're going to
see a lot of stuff. It's so good for good for you
though. It is it is absolutely a
rewarding and and and I have a lot of friends who are
paramedics. OK Hag Hagdu says if there's a
sign that says no left turn, canyou do AU turn?
A left turn is the first part ofEU turn.
(01:06:26):
It's not truly left turn. I'm going to say that's not the
best place to conduct yourself in AU turn, but I'd see that
that that you'd be able to at least have a discussion in
court. So no, it's not prohibited, but
it's arguable. So I think I could argue it
either way. I don't have a definitive answer
for you because the you're making a left turn that then
(01:06:48):
continues into AU turn, but you're not turning a left turn
onto the street. So is it like if it's a no left
turn because the street is a oneway, but you do AU turn, it
might be not an issue, but if it's if it's let's go logically
here, it's not AU turn as AU turn as a left turn as a left
turn. But I'm, I'm also going down the
rabbit hole of, of the way some laws is written that, you know,
(01:07:14):
if, if you attempt the turn, you're even.
So I don't think that's the situation here.
I, I would, I would err on this side of caution and not do U
turns there because I think U turns are a bad idea on the best
of days. But I don't have a definitive
answer. You know what?
I, I will ask for interpretationof a third party standby.
OK. I'm curious what ChatGPT
(01:07:46):
interprets it as. It says short answer, no you
usually cannot. Here is the clean way to
understand it. No left turn sign prohibits any
movement that begins with a leftturn.
AU turn starts as a left turn sowhen you see that sign EU turn
is off the table. That was my original school of
thought. ChatGPT is a mirror that reminds
me that I am right or or not andit says here in Ontario U-turn
(01:08:13):
is only permitted when it is safe and legal and not otherwise
restricted. If there's a sign saying no left
turn, no U-turn, no U-turn during certain hours or anything
somewhere you must obey it. OK I'm going to say air on the
side of caution my friend. Both chat sheet BT and your
friendly opinionated former traffic cop don't think it's a
good idea. Interesting.
(01:08:34):
That was a very interesting outcome.
I I often, you know, discuss things with Chatshu BT and we
don't always see eye to eye, butthat's interesting that it came
to the same conclusion using everything that it knows about
stuff and things. It's kind of cool.
All right, talked about this stature flex.
(01:08:57):
No, no, it's statue Statute Reflex.
Last time we did this, I had to do it again.
OK, statute reflex. I saw someone driving very
dangerously in Toronto and got aplate.
Can I submit an anonymous tip towho?
So you can go online to the Toronto Police Service.
They want your name and information to make a report.
You can go to, but but by doing that, they're going to get a
letter. They're not going to get a
letter saying that Statute, statute reflex said so they're
(01:09:21):
going to get a letter saying youwere observed at a date, time
and location and you were doing dumb stuff.
Stop it right. That's what the letter's going
to say. No charge is going to be laid.
That's the Toronto police thing. You can you can call anonymously
to Crime Stoppers. I don't know where it's going to
go, but if you really were were wanted them to be contacted, I I
(01:09:45):
put your name on it. The reason being is they they
want to make sure it's not crankpranking, pranking, pranking.
Storm games and vlogs wants to know if I watch the Grey Cup
because their home province won.Well, congratulations to your
home province. I don't know who, who, who, who
won because I don't watch that Simple as that.
(01:10:08):
I'm getting a spam call. I'm going to ignore that.
I love the new feature of the iphone's iOS or iOS that now has
the option to screen calls. Like it'll answer using AI and
it'll ask you and say, you know, tell us why who you're calling
and why you're calling. And then if you say hi, my name
is Bob, I'm calling for Sean, it'll actually on screen say I
(01:10:31):
can see the dialogue. Hi Bob.
Let me check with Sean and see if he's available.
Like, it's amazing how that works.
But I turned it off because I was receiving a delivery from
Voila and I forgot to turn it back on again.
But guess what I'm doing right after the show because I don't
want unknown callers calling me at all ever.
OK, no, come on. Wait, no, Tracy says.
(01:10:54):
I'm still laughing about the guywho stole the bus but kept
picking up and dropping off past.
That did not happen. Come on.
If that happened, I need to see the story.
That's hilarious, Northstar sayswhat?
What's Medina exit on Gardner? I don't know what context that
is. Prepare for getting stuck.
I think that was comments about the tips on on winter driving.
(01:11:17):
The one and only Charlie says stop giving out private
information or private information enforcing an
educating slow number one drive lanes.
OK, scrolling through. I like that Tracy says what are
you talking about Alex Jordson? I pronounced that right.
Hey, what are traffic? Why are traffic cops not pulling
(01:11:38):
over and ticketing slow drivers? It just causes as much issues.
How slow? Where are they?
Are they doing the speed limit? Are you doing more than the
speed limit? The focus is going to be on the
speeders and slow drivers shouldstay to the right.
But it's I agree slow drivers can be an issue in certain
circumstances, but not in every circumstance.
(01:11:59):
So yeah, speeders should slow down.
They're the biggest problem I have Connecticut.
I think it says Connecticut is Ipronounce Connecticut plates in
my car while I get billed for the four O 7 of my visiting.
I believe that out of town or still get bills.
I got bills from from New York. Why wouldn't you get bills in
Connecticut? I'm really confused is that I've
(01:12:22):
never I don't think I've ever written down Connecticut.
Now I want to know if that how to spell Connecticut.
No, you you. It appears that you've spelled
Connecticut incorrectly. Are you really from Connecticut?
Sorry. What do we got here?
Can you talk about emergency vehicles with sirens on going
(01:12:45):
in? What is this?
Can you talk about emergency vehicles with sirens on going
opposite direction for lanes, nobarrier, pull over, pull over
emergency vehicles going in opposite or or contraflow going
against the the traffic legal your responsibility, pull over.
That way they don't crash into you, you don't crash into them.
And if you don't pull over, it is a charge and it's a big one.
(01:13:06):
Should I leave my car keys in mycar so it's easier for thieves?
That's from user lots of numberswho doesn't understand what the
instructions from the police officers and public, you know,
officials were talking about when they were giving the really
good advice of not hiding your keys from would be thieves in
your vehicle. Let's break it down because I
never get tired of talking aboutthis and you know, throwing egg
(01:13:26):
essentially, you know, it's not real egg.
It's just egg on the face of thedum dum who makes the comment.
So let's go. Let's go.
Let's break it down. Keys hidden versus keys easily
available to the front door. Not in front of the front door,
Not outside. Not in the car, inside your
home. Let's paint the picture.
You're asleep in bed. Your children are down the hall.
(01:13:49):
You and your spouse are snoring away.
They want your car. Thieves break into your house.
Keys are right there. They take the car keys and
leave. You have had your your your
vehicle stolen. You are the victim of a car
theft. That is the a terrible situation
(01:14:10):
and better than thieves. Break in, look for your keys.
Can't find them? Then go and into your children's
room. Grab them, drag them to your
room, beat you about the face until you give them the keys
that you thought it was a good idea to hide.
Then you give them the keys and they steal your car.
(01:14:32):
Now you're a victim, you've beenassaulted, you're terrified.
Is that better? You decide.
Now, I believe in home fortification.
I'm actually working with the company doing home
fortification. More to come on that soon.
But the idea of making your house less penetrable, you want
to make it so that it is not as easy to get into your home.
(01:14:55):
So you fortify the doors, you fortify the windows.
That's what you should do. But if they get in through that,
damn sure you want to have the keys easy accessible so they
take the crap they want and leave without harming you
because those are dedicated people and you're at risk.
So when people keep saying, should I leave my keys with the
coffee in the car and make it warm for them and give them a
back rub? Listen, I'm not happy with the
(01:15:16):
state of affairs in Canada when it comes to crime.
I'm not. I'm pretty pissed.
But I'm still going to do the best thing for my family and
being a tough guy and making stupid comments ain't it.
Moving on. OK.
I was just wondering because I was told there would be an
internal affairs investigation that's from Zach.
What is what is Zach going on about?
I'm looking back for some more from Zach.
(01:15:37):
Let me go back. Oh no, Zach was talking about
take home vehicles. No, there's no internal affairs
for for that. There shouldn't be any way take
home vehicles. If there's a legit take home
vehicle pulling you over with them is legit.
Why is there police discretion? That's OBMC that an Akronym I am
not familiar with. Why is there police discretion?
(01:15:58):
Would you like me to be? Well, here, let's break it down.
I pull you over for speeding. I talked to you about it.
You will accept responsibility for what you did.
I have the discretion of ticketing you, not ticketing you
or reducing the the, the charge you want to take away the right
for or the ability for an officer to say this person, you
(01:16:19):
know, really, really took to theheart.
They're having a hard day. I'm going to be a good guy.
I'm going to make this a positive interaction.
I'm going to reduce the the speed.
They don't get the mirror points.
You want to make sure that everyone gets the same you, you
did it, you're done. I mean, if you want to, but why?
Why wouldn't you want police discretion?
That's not to give everybody a free pass.
(01:16:41):
It's to try and find a positive way of going forward.
Now, this is where it also goes differently.
You pull someone over, they don't take responsibility.
They're being Dick heads. They start telling you that they
pay your salary and that you're wasting their time and they're
speeding is so they can get to work on time because you know,
all these people that they don'tlike, we're in their way.
(01:17:02):
Does that person need a ticket? I think they do, but not
everybody needs a ticket. Some people are reasonable
individuals who either like, listen, I'll give you another
story. I pulled someone over.
They didn't have their license with them.
He said, listen, I I just took my mom to work.
She's, you know, dad died, mom goes to work.
I don't want her going alone at in the middle of the night.
(01:17:23):
So I drove her. I'm sorry.
I left my my license at home or I didn't have it.
I gave the guy a warning. He was lying to me.
I'm pretty sure of it because I pulled him over a year later,
same guy, same car, same story. You got to take it the second
time. OK, AK says can you talk about
(01:17:46):
emergency vehicles with no we talked about that how fast you
went in a car? How fast have I gone in a car?
I've I've done 25260 in a car maybe a little faster legally,
but do do do OK joke 10 good. Let me cut and paste this.
(01:18:14):
I'll put it into the other thing.
Copy. Oh, I'm trying to do this.
Standby. Oh, I can actually do it here.
We're going to put it over here. We're going to paste it.
We're going to paste it here. OK, Forgot to have it on both
computers. OK.
My name is Shanchi. I'm a former police officer.
(01:18:35):
Talks about Traffic Safety, traffic law, and police stuff.
And if you've got questions about Traffic Safety, traffic
law and police stuff, then you're in the right place
because my goal is to help you out.
Now, I've been talking for an hour and 20 minutes roughly.
And I usually do this for about an hour.
Like my goal is an hour, but I'mnever done in an hour.
So we'll, we'll, we'll wrap it up in the next 20 or so minutes.
But if you've got questions, make sure you, you, you toss
(01:18:55):
them into the comments. If you want answers, stick
around to hear them or watch theplayback on YouTube because it's
all like all the episodes. This is episode 94.
Can you believe it? Now I, this is the last episode
for this week. I'll be back on Tuesday at 10 AM
to do it again. And then I think we might, we
might not have any after dark next week because it'll be
another daytime one because I'vegot a lot of stuff going on at
(01:19:17):
night. As we, as we approach the
holiday season, night episodes are going to be more and more
difficult. But I'll, I'll try and squeeze
one in here and there. OK.
Italian Stallion 777 says hi, Sean, I don't know if a traffic
cop could help me with this scenario, but my father died and
the cars are registered under his name.
Is there a way to register it under my mom's name even without
a will? Well, two things.
(01:19:40):
One, you should talk to the folks at Barrett Barrett legal
Barrett tax law. They're they're same person, two
different IT firms. But either way, Barrett tax
law.com, barrettlegal.com, orisit.ca.
Anyway, VM me, I'll put you in touch with them.
But the deal is that those things revert to the estate of
(01:20:00):
the dead person, the person who has died.
By the way, sorry for loss of your father.
And I believe that automatically, even without a
will, things go to the spouse. So those things could be
transferred to your mother. There is a process for doing
that. With my father-in-law, we
transferred things to my mother-in-law when I think just
(01:20:23):
took a certificate of death. It wasn't a big deal.
They just did it. So you should you should get
some advice and and I'm sure that they'd help you out if you
called Barrett legal. OK.
And and I say that like I can't give away of services, but I'm
sure they'd answered the question for you.
All right, we talked about this.Pollywood says thank you.
(01:20:47):
Love what you do, Sean, thanks for making the roads safer.
Thank you, Paul or Paulie Hollywood.
Appreciate you. OK, I've seen speed cameras.
I've seen a speed camera disappear from where it used to
be. I don't know if they're just
picking them up and collecting them or not, but I I, I
certainly know that they're not active anymore.
Pabs says hi. Can I ask a question?
Why school, what we talked aboutthen do a lot of spam.
(01:21:08):
Can I change my exhaust tips legally?
Not changing anything internally.
I just want bigger tips. That's from Bernie.
Exhaust tips are simply the Chrome ends after the muffler.
I don't think there's anything that regulates different looking
tips because they don't change the function of the vehicle.
Let's see here. Tracy says.
(01:21:29):
I don't get why people get so mouthy when pulled over.
Being polite can work wonders. It works in every in every
jurisdiction. Order McDonald's and be nice.
You get nicer service, fewer bubbles in your burger.
If you are, if you're doing anything with any service
industry and policing is still service industry, even though
you don't necessarily like what they're serving.
Kindness, politeness, just beinggenerally OK with people goes
(01:21:53):
such a long way in your favor. I don't know why more people
don't do it. But here, yeah, it's it's crazy.
Rob says, what is this? But now we don't use it when
they don't care. I don't understand the context
of Rob's statement. Oh, geez.
Oh, OK. I got an update from Brian.
(01:22:14):
I will have to call him back shortly, Tron says.
When did you become a cop? I joined the Toronto Police
Service in 2000. I became an auxiliary officer.
I was a volunteer originally. I was a volunteer for 12 years.
So 2012 I I became a police officer.
I was also a court officer in the time that I was a auxiliary
(01:22:34):
officer. So I was both a court officer
and a a, an auxiliary officer and court officer.
And I was an auxiliary Sergeant and a supervisor in courts
before I traded those two uniforms in to become a police
officer. And I did that in 2012 when I
became a police officer, Carmelasays.
In my subdivision I came across crossings with two white lines,
(01:22:56):
no signs stuff. I'm not picking up what you put
now. What do you mean What is that?
DM me with a location of where that is so I can see what you're
talking about. Because Google Maps likely has a
picture of it. Oh yeah, motorists and
pedestrians alike. You're confused by them.
What are they actually supposed to do?
Are you talking about a crosswalk with no signs?
(01:23:16):
I need to see it. Are tickets from cameras subject
to demerit points like in persontickets?
No automated enforcement, whether it be speed, school, bus
or stop red light. Not a demerit point system even
though they've removed the speedenforcement.
OK, I'm going to try and go realfast to now I've got a reason to
go fast. I got to go find out what's
happening here with my buddy. OK, But I want to, I want to try
(01:23:41):
and get some really good stuff here.
What if the traffic flow is 150 and a 110?
Then everyone's stunt driving and everyone should be charged
and lose their vehicles speed. The flow of traffic is not
authority to go over the supposed to speed limit.
The speed limit is a speed limit.
It's not a suggestion, it's not a starting point, it's the
maximum. Anyone doing 150 is a stunt
driver, whether everyone's doingit or just one.
(01:24:02):
So you would be subject to charges for stunt driving and
they could take your wheels and if you could stop all those
cars, you could charge all of those cars because it's not a
get out of jail free situation. But the person who asked that
question also responded about the the automated enforcement
saying it's, it's it's ticketed to the car and they're right.
(01:24:25):
OK. Does the driver get charged if
they hit someone If the pedestrian didn't do anything,
does the driver get charged if they hit someone?
What? I don't get it.
Does the driver get charged if they hit someone?
If the pedestrian didn't do it, Why?
Whether the pedestrian did something or not, you can't
drive into them. I don't.
I don't. I'm not picking up what you're
(01:24:45):
putting down. If the driver hits a pedestrian
intentionally, it's vehicular assault, Right?
Like you're, you're intentionally using your
vehicles as a weapon. Yeah.
They get arrested if the pedestrian gets hit because
they're crossing the road whether they're legally doing it
or not and it was just a vehicular collision without the
criminal intent. Then they would be charged for
(01:25:05):
their apartment. If I've charged pedestrians
though for doing dumb stuff thatcaused collisions.
So it depends. Oh pabs who says why do private
cars need seatbelts if school buses and buses don't?
Because the law says they do. I mean there's also very
different dynamics. School buses and and transit
buses are going much slower in most scenarios, whereas private
(01:25:31):
vehicles are doing all sorts of dumb stuff and have different
safety requirements and and so on.
So they have to wear them. But taxis, like for instance
taxis, you don't need a child safety restraint for children.
A car seat isn't required for children even though they were.
They're required in your personal vehicle.
Why? And there are exemptions for
seat belt use for certain reasons, medical exemptions,
(01:25:52):
delivery driver exemptions. There's exemptions and delivery
drivers have to be not going or cannot be going over 40
kilometers an hour and have to be actively involved with, you
know, delivery. So that that's the thing like
directly Ivan the Terrible says, what's the difference between
driver, traveler and operator? Nothing.
(01:26:13):
They're all drivers and require licenses and Freeman and the
land stuff is baloney. What do we have here?
Are the police able to switch the charge mid arrest?
They say they arrest you for X then switch it to mid.
Yes, yes they can. So charges are are an arrest is
based on the information at hand.
I'm arresting you for this. Now you're under arrest because
of suspicion. There's a belief that you have
(01:26:34):
the following things. Laying a charge is the formal
process where they've outlined exactly what's happening.
So I try, I arrest you for impaired operation, but you you
don't have the sufficient blood alcohol content to lay the
charge of over 80. So I just charged you with
impaired. That could happen or, you know,
could be careless. I think they could totally
change things. Hassan Assad wants to know, does
(01:26:57):
the police have access to the dealer plate information?
Like can you see if there's insurance?
They haven't. They have information as to
whether or not they disclosed insurance when they registered
it. But it's 15 years 15 days old,
so it's not accurate to the minute.
So no, you have to have your insurance papers.
You have to surrender it upon demand of a police officer.
(01:27:17):
The policy information isn't available.
They can't call the insurance provider to find out if the
insurance policy is active. All they can see is was it
checked 15 days ago Doesn't meanshit.
You have to have the actual information that which is why if
you don't carry that, you're eligible for a ticket for Phil
to surrender. Adam wants to know what a dealer
plate is. It's a dealership plate that is
(01:27:38):
part of the vehicle, the automotive dealership.
So if you're going to test drivea car, you can take a plate
that's not associated with that brand new car specifically.
It's not registered to that vehicle.
You hang it over the back and the OR you attach it to the
vehicle and you can temporarily test drive and and use that
vehicle. The the condition is it has to
be part of the the inventory forsale has to be available for
(01:27:59):
sale. That particular car.
You can't like purchase it as a member as not you can't have it
outside of the inventory for sale.
I don't know a better way to sayit.
Dave says that bus thing did happen.
That's awesome. He even told someone that he
couldn't get on the bus because of no way Bobby wiki really.
(01:28:22):
Oh, if he if he that's amazing. I got to go Google that
afterwards. Yeah.
And Tracy says, Oh my God, Sean,he wouldn't even let someone
board because their bus pass expired.
So he's going to send it to me. That's awesome.
Oh. Oh, OK.
Their their their username is rotten Egg Farts, which is the
(01:28:44):
worst? That's the worst.
Do you have to pull over for an emergency vehicle even if
they're on the other side of a median?
No, if they're the other side ofa divided highway.
I use the example of Hwy. 4 O1. If they're on the other side of
the divided highway, they can't get to you.
No. Then you don't have to pull over
for them because they're not on your side.
And. And Tracy already responded to
Don, says Sean. Facing a red light.
(01:29:06):
One lane northbound out of a Plaza.
The other side of the intersection, 2 lanes.
Is it OK to enter the right? I'm not.
I'm not picking up what you're putting down.
Facing a red light, one lane northbound out of a Plaza.
The other side of the intersection, 2 lanes.
I'm not picking up what you're putting down.
I'm sorry. I don't.
I don't get it, Doc. I'm not.
I don't know. OK.
(01:29:30):
What are your thoughts about castle law?
I think we're in our castle. And I I'm, I'm, I'm a big fan of
self-defense. I don't think anyone should be
able to come at me and try and hurt me or my family.
And yeah, I I would. I would, I would test out the
extent of the law even if I was going to be charged as relation
to it. I, I prefer the idea in the
states where they give you a medal instead of a criminal
(01:29:50):
charge for defending yourself. But it is where we live.
That said, I think it's important and we do have the
ability to defend ourselves under the Criminal Code.
You can use as much force as necessary, including lethal
force. However, be responsible.
Do not use excessive force or you'll be will be held
accountable criminally. He's talking about gun charges
(01:30:17):
happy and content says we need castle lawyer.
We kind of sort of have it kind of sort of, but it's just
wording and the big the big difference here is in the
states, if they're if the officers would probably high 5
you for shooting a bad guy and here it's going to be charging
you more likely than not. And a a says don't defend
(01:30:38):
yourself. That's what you're saying.
No, that's not what I said. If you were paying attention,
and I would urge anyone who is questioning what the heck he's
talking about when he, when he suggests that I'm saying don't
defend yourself, he's wrong. We're talking about putting keys
to the front door so that while you're sleeping, because you
can't defend yourself while you're asleep, you end up not
getting absolutely victimized beyond that of having your car
(01:31:04):
taken. Someone who's awake can respond
when you're sleeping is a different story.
And and if you watch the news, you see people, there was a
woman whose 12 year old daughterwas, was held at gunpoint while
and then they, I think they transitioned to her and beat her
up and, and they wanted the safeand there was no safe.
There was a whole big thing. Look at that as the shining
(01:31:24):
example. If there was some some some
stuff for them to make an easy getaway.
These lazy bastards who hurt herwould have possibly taken that
stuff and saved her the trauma of being assaulted.
And that's the worst part. She doesn't feel safe in her
home. I I'm I'm sick.
I'm sick about that. I read the news and I'm sick
about it. Yeah Hassan Hassan says this guy
(01:31:48):
where he us reading. I never see a comment here he is
answering. I just read your read your
stuff. Bras says, what happens if I go
90 to 30 while you're stunt driving and you, I think you
should be held criminally responsible for that speed
because that's not acceptable. But at very least you're sun
driving. OK.
(01:32:10):
Are motorcycle riders allowed todrive between cars and traffic
on the highways? Now?
That's called lane splitting. Pinky says.
Is officer discretion. Is officer discretion the reason
why so many people are driving around with the illegal tint?
Well, partially, yes. An officer can say I'm not
interested in writing that ticket, I've never written it, I
(01:32:31):
don't know enough to to make a case, and I don't want to look
like an idiot in court. So they may choose not to write
it because they don't know enough about it.
Others may see it and say I'm more concerned about speeding.
That's not something I'm concerned about today.
Others may say I didn't notice it, I was too busy looking at
license plates and looking for suspended drivers.
But does it take a if? If if police officers had to
(01:32:55):
charge everything they saw, theywould never leave one square
mile of their police station. They would never get away any
because there are so many violations that they would never
get one square mile away from their their police station.
Discretion is important. What are your thoughts on police
from British Columbia? They are from British Columbia.
(01:33:16):
I have, I, I know nothing about them beyond the fact that they
are a police officer from another jurisdiction.
What? What is it that you want to know
about them? If I buy a used car and I put my
plates on my old car, Sorry. If I buy a used car, can I put
my plates from my old car to theused car for six days?
Yes. The condition is that the
vehicle you're putting them on has insurance.
(01:33:38):
So the vehicle you buy must be insured to operate on the road.
And the plates that you want to use from your old car are
actually no longer legally attached to your old car.
And I mean that by the status with the ministry, I mean that
that they are not attached by way of their status in the
computer system with the ministry, not that they're not
(01:33:59):
physically attached to the vehicle.
So they are legally required. You have to have unattached
plates that are still in your possession.
Then you'd be legally allowed touse them for six days.
The bad practice. My suggestion would be to
actually go to the ministry. Do the transfer live there, Max?
Daddy says I was driving steady 10 kilometers over speed limit
on Hwy. Would you pull me over if it was
(01:34:19):
the highway 10 kilometers? No, I wouldn't bat an eye
because there are so many peopledoing 20304050 over.
That would keep me busy. So I would I would not bother
with someone doing 10 over just me.
That's what I'm saying. I went to Service Ontario and
they asked for executor. Executor of the estate.
We don't have that right now. I don't know the situation if,
(01:34:41):
if you would become if your mom would become the executor or if
an executor is only established with a will.
Again, my suggestion would be totalk to yeah, talk to talk to a
lawyer. Service Ontario is looking for a
check box worth of stuff. They may not know the details.
All right. Can I fly a sub 250?
(01:35:04):
No, you can't drive above traffic.
Adam, go, you have to go look atthe the rules.
But driving over vehicles is notOK.
Sub 250 or not from my interpretation of what I've
read. Boom boom, boom.
Yeah. Italian Stallion.
Reach out to me, I'll put you intouch.
At very least I'll. I'll ask them on your behalf to
find out more. But DM me so I have your
(01:35:26):
details. Pabz once says I saw a police
officer passing a school bus when they had their stop sign
out. Can we stop them?
Are you, do you have a problem? Like.
OK, police officers legally required to stop for a school
bus with flashing lights. Yeah.
Can you stop them? No.
Are they doing it knowing that they aren't allowed to?
(01:35:48):
Probably. Probably be because someone's
life is at risk and they're making a decision.
If something bad happened, they'd be entirely responsible.
You want to go carry on them now?
I don't understand it. It's just giving you a hard
time. Like come on, you can't stop
them. You can't stop them they said.
Thanks for sharing all the info.It helps us know more about
traffic as I shit on them for for for asking that previous
(01:36:08):
question. No, I I don't understand why
people want to police the policeas as much as they do.
So I have a a knee jerk reactionto your question.
They aren't illegally. They are not legally allowed to
do it. They do it sometimes knowing
that it's illegal when lives areat risk.
OK, Jacob says where do you sellan airsoft gun because you can't
Online sites. Where can you sell an airsoft
(01:36:30):
gun or where do you buy one because you can't.
You, you have one you want to sell.
I don't, I don't have an answer for you.
Damn it, Stu says. Do I have to physically accept
the ticket an officer gives me for a traffic stop?
No, but you're going to get convicted.
There's in Ontario, there's no service requirement other than I
can, I can drop it in your window.
You don't have to sign for it oranything.
(01:36:51):
And if you, if you refuse to accept it, it doesn't make it go
away. Just don't, don't do stupid
things behind the wheel of a carand you won't have an issue.
OK, We're going to go quickly and oh cool, Kayla's going to
start some new medical stuff soon.
OK, during a rush hour there's an emergency vehicle with lights
(01:37:11):
on. What do drivers need to do?
Get out of the way? Pull over the nearest curb or
edge of roadway? OK, what do you do if you think
the guy on TikTok catching people speeding in the school
zone with a speed radar and thenvandalizing the speeder's car
with a pie or cake smashing against the speeding car?
Is he a criminal or a hero we never thought we needed?
OK, I I absolutely love that guy.
(01:37:33):
I think they're all staged. That is absolutely dangerous and
criminal and two wrongs don't make a right.
But I love the content. Selfishly, I love it.
Dad joke. Oh, here we go.
Dad joke for the end of stream. What did the horse say after it
tripped? Help.
I've fallen and I can't giddy up.
(01:37:54):
It's pretty good. I dumped my last boyfriend
because he was a communist. I should have realized that
sooner. There were red flags everywhere.
That's very good. That's that's incredibly good
and so appropriate in today's current climate.
(01:38:17):
What is this? Oh, I this is not a joke, but I
flagged it for later and then then forgot all about it.
If I this is Brandon who thinks he'd be blown to a friend's
interlock system so they can drive.
That person should also have charges.
I don't know if there is a charge for that, but I do think
that that would be appropriate. OK, what's the difference
(01:38:39):
between a jeweler and a jailer? One sells watches, the other
watches cells. What's the difference between a
jeweler and a jailer? One sells watches, the other
watches cells. I mean, I get it, but is it
funny? It's not funny.
It's funny ish. It's fish.
I don't know what kind of fish works in a hospital.
(01:39:01):
A sturgeon that is good. I you made you made-up for your
your, you. It was.
You're back in the good books. I think this is a quote after
you've exhausted what there is in business, politics,
convivality. Convivality, I don't even know
that word and so on have found that none of these finally
(01:39:24):
satisfy or permanently where what remains nature remains.
That's Walt Whitman. It was a quote, but is that
conviviality? I honestly don't know that word.
I will afterwards because I willgoogly goo it and then this was
the question. We just I guess is Vecas must be
(01:39:46):
the same user. OK, we'll we'll deal with that
afterwards. That's the question about dad
dying and and mom being the dealing with the stuff.
OK Jerry Joe 789 says I saw a real yesterday that there were 5
cases of break insurance to where they broke the passenger
window and stole the ownership and insurance paperwork.
Is it better to have all this inyour wallet?
It certainly is what I do. I do not leave stuff with my
(01:40:09):
address in the car. I don't care if it's mail from
the mailbox. I don't want anything that says
my name on it in the vehicle. You know, I used to do locker or
loser programs with the Toronto police as an auxiliary officer
and they still do this. Now people don't even lock their
doors. Your your car, your vehicle is a
treasure trove of information. Leave your business cards and
stock nothing with your name on it.
(01:40:30):
People find you, they find you and I don't want them to find
you. I certainly don't want them to
find me. What is the difference between a
dad joke and a bad joke? The D and the B Very good.
All right, with that, we'll callit a show.
And I, I will be signing off. Oh, wait, wait, wait, wait,
(01:40:52):
wait. Quickly.
The amount of people I see who don't move over from emergency
vehicles is insane. That's from Canada A William 86
Wallace says. Sean, what's the difference
between jam and marmalade? And then I didn't get a A A we
didn't get the answer. And PAB says I have my license
(01:41:12):
since 1989. Got one speedy ticket according
to officer 5 kilometers over. Will that affect affect what?
How long ago did you get a ticket?
5 over is a ticket. It will affect your insurance or
get your, your no, you're at your, your, your accident, not
accident free your your ticket free bonus if you had one.
But it probably won't change your life.
You won't get any points. It's just a financial impact.
(01:41:35):
But if you were literally doing 5 over, you're guilty of it.
OK, we're done. We've talked about all the
things we have to talk about here.
I'll be back next week where I will be doing this again at 10
AM Tuesday. Have a great week, have a great
weekend. If you drive, drive safely, No
drugs, no alcohol, don't speed, don't do dumb stuff.
(01:41:56):
And I know you know how to drivebecause they gave you a license,
OK, That doesn't mean you know how to drive.
It means you have a good starting point.
Take your time, leave early, find something you like to
listen to on the radio. If you have satellite radio,
I've been listening to a lot of it on, on SiriusXM.
Yeah, I, I, I don't know what I was doing not listening to them
(01:42:18):
for a while because I had a hiatus and then I came back to
them and I've been having so much fun with it.
You should check them out. Otherwise podcast like crazy.
And you can listen to reruns on this on podcast apps you can
listen to. If you have the premium YouTube,
you can download the the the stuff and listen to the audio
only version. Yeah anyway, be safe out there.
(01:42:38):
We'll catch you later.
