This is Joanne Phillips, writer, director and producer of Everyone’s Happy, which is a near-future, dystopian, coming of age story about a young woman, called Parker, who lives in a world where everyone is medicated by the government – medicated through their food to be happy and calm and controlled. There are some people, though, who are immune to the drugs, and for those people the consequences are horrific. So, Parker is left a set of old-school recordings by her grandmother, and this gift sets her off on a journey of discovery. She lives in a dome-covered city where society is protected from the effects of climate change; there are themes around what it really means to be happy, about identity and freedom, but most of all I hope you’ll find it just a really good story. This is episode one: Orientation. Good luck to everyone else in the competition and thank you for listening.
cw: Mild language, some episodes include violence (not graphic), one brief description of injury, references to grief.
