We explore how to cultivate courage and inner strength for daily life, examining the difference between rajasic energy and the pure sattvic energy demonstrated by figures like Krishna and Swami Vivekananda.

• The courage displayed by spiritual leaders comes from Sattvic energy rather than just Rajasic energy
• True courage flows from remembering our essential nature as boundless consciousness
• When God gives authority to speak, nothing can stop you and everyone will listen
• Surrender to God allows divine attributes to flow through us
• The Vishnu Sahasranama (thousand names of Vishnu) can remind us of divine qualities within us
• We don't need to cultivate courage; we need to discover the boundless courage already within
• Simply saying "I'm not the body" is incomplete – we must also recognize what we truly are

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello and welcome to the Bearded Mystic Podcast, and
I'm your host, rahul N Singh.
Thank you for taking out thetime today to either watch or
listen to this podcast episodeToday before we start.
If you didn't catch theconversation I had with Noe

(00:20):
Rauta on One of theseConversations, please take a
look at that.
Um, that was a greatconversation.
I really enjoyed it.
There was a lot that, um, Ilearned and a lot that was
shared, and it's always good tolearn from different sources, uh
, who express the truth, thesame truth that you know one

(00:41):
expresses as well.
So, and he has a very uniqueway of sharing that.
So I have a question today, um,from Dylan G, who is, um, uh,
you know, a long time listenerand, uh, and, if you do have
questions, you can always eitherWhatsApp me, email me or get in

(01:01):
contact with me somehow, and Iwill always um reply, will
always reply back or record aresponse, and so Dilanji asks.
In some of the Indian texts, like the Bhagavad Gita, when
Krishna speaks to Arjuna, thereare moments where his words
carry such strength and power, for example, when he says things

(01:21):
like do not worry about thebody or fix your mind on me,
without attachment to results.
It feels like he's not offeringphilosophical wisdom, but
speaking from a place of courageand conviction.
It sounds like he's also tryingto instill courage into Arjun,
who is understandablyoverwhelmed at the idea of

(01:42):
fighting people he loves youknow, the teachers, friends and
relatives.
Similarly, when SwamiSravapriyanandaji speaks about
Swami Vivekanandaji, it soundslike Swami Vivekanandaji also
speaks with this energy ofcourage, strength and spiritual
authority.
And it made me reflect.
It seems that in certainsituations in life, having the

(02:03):
right intent alone isn't enough.
One also needs to bring forththe right energy, a purposeful,
directed force.
From what I understand, thisfeels like a Rajasic type of
energy, active, dynamic, full ofresolve, as opposed to a more
Damsic or even purely Sattvicstate.
It has a fire to it.

(02:25):
I've noticed that it's better togo into something with the
attitude of looking forward tosomething rather than dreading
something.
For example, if you have ameeting coming up, instead going
in with the attitude of fearand worry, if you go in with the
attitude of I'm going to smashthis presentation, you'll
perform better and even if theoutcome is a loss, you deal with
the loss better and then youhave more peace because the loss

(02:48):
doesn't dwell.
And I find the same is truewith exams and sports.
This made me wonder how can onecultivate that kind of energy
for day-to-day living.
I know you've recommendedmeditating in the morning and
I've heard that focus anddetermination are emphasized in
many teachings.
But is there a particularapproach, practice or mindset

(03:12):
that helps you tap into thatcourageous energy right at the
start of the day, almost likeanchoring yourself in strength
before stepping out into theworld?
From my own thinking, I thoughtperhaps reminding oneself that
I am not the body perhaps canhelp, but I don't feel the same
energy when I do this.
It feels like such an importantquality, not just for achieving

(03:33):
goals but for walking the pathwith clarity and in the power.
I haven't really focused ondeveloping this consciously, but
any advice you would have wouldbe deeply appreciated.
That is a very wonderfulquestion, um, and and there's a
reason why I gave the backgroundto that because dylan g, when I
first uh interacted with him,uh, there was, uh, he was very

(03:59):
different to what you're hearingnow.
Um, you know, even in this, even though he's asking for
courage, but I can tell you thathe's really gained a lot of
courage since the first timethat I spoke to him, uh, and you
know, when he reached outinitially this was maybe a
couple of years ago um, hereally took on board what I said

(04:23):
and, um, and it came tofruition.
Now there's a few things that Iwanted to kind of address in
there, and one thing is like thestrength and the courage and
that it looks like it's Rajasic.
That's true to a certain degree.
Yes, there is Rajasic, but withSri Krishna and even Arjuna and

(04:45):
even Swami Vivekananda Ji,although, yes, there is elements
of Rajasic, but it's actuallygrounded in Sattvic energy
because it's pure.
Now, the reason why it's pureis because there's no other
intention, so they're notlooking for something in return
With something that's rajasic.
There may be some element ofwanting something in return, an

(05:07):
expectation of results, aneagerness to see the results,
but when you do it with sattvicenergy, you will have the same
kind of energy, the free-flowingenergy, the boundless energy
that comes from existence, fromSatchitananda.
You will have that same energythat is sattvic and that will be

(05:27):
moving you.
So with that you will not beexpecting results.
You just do things becausethat's important, that action is
important, going down that pathis important.
So, yes, initially Sri Krishnais installing courage into

(05:47):
Arjuna because he was fearful,he was scared, he was terrified,
he was stressed out, he washaving a panic attack.
So, you know, sri Krishnadefinitely did install courage
into him and hence he was ableto fight in the war later, to
fight in the war later, and evenwhen it comes to Swami
Vivekananda Ji, you know, goingup there to speak in Chicago you

(06:10):
know that 100 years ago and tobe so confident about one's
religion, about one's dharma, and to do that with such ease
again, there is something of thedivine at play here.
You see, the reason why Arjunacould perform, the reason why

(06:34):
Swami Vivekananda ji can performor could perform, is because of
, funny enough, I was readingthe gospel of Sri Ramakrishna ji
.
I just picked it up and I justread a few pages of Sri
Ramakrishna.
I just picked it up and I justread a few pages, and in there
Sri Ramakrishna says that whenGod gives you the authority to
speak, nothing can stop you andeveryone will listen to you.

(06:57):
Because that, then, is Godspeaking to you and that is God
performing through you or actingthrough you.
And that's true whenever we seeany spiritual teacher that we
really admire and we just feeldrawn to them, that's because
they've had that authority fromGod to speak, from Ishwar, to

(07:19):
And obviously this depends ifyou believe in God or not.
I'm more on the side of you, know there is a God and you can
utilize that energy and utilizethose attributes.
And so, yes, when God ordains, then you can speak, nothing will

(07:42):
stop you.
And that's the courage wherethey got it from, from the
attributes of Suguna Brahmanfrom Ishvara, that courage where
they got it from from theattributes of saguna brahman
from ishara.
That's where they got thestrength from.
So, although, yes, sri krishnain his real state is nirgun,
absolutely, but for the war, forfighting, then arjun had to
utilize this saguna aspect ofsri krishna, so that, but that

(08:04):
doesn't mean that he forgotabout the nirguna aspect, yeah,
one can still act by balancingboth perfectly well.
So that's one thing.
And so how can you have thisenergy for day-to-day living?
There's two ways of looking atthis, two answers that I would

(08:28):
give.
One is surrender to God.
When you surrender yourself tosomething higher, then all the
attributes of the higher enterinto you and you then react,
respond differently.
With that in mind, you willthink like God, you will speak

(08:50):
like God, you will hear, likeGod or the Guru, or whoever you
consider to be the highest, whoever your Ish this, for the
sake of this I say God then thewhole of existence, the whole
energy of existence is behindyou.
So how can you cultivate thatenergy?
One is to surrender.
If you surrender to Saguna, brahman, to Ishvara, to the

(09:16):
Sagun or Sarkar aspect of theformless, then of consciousness,
then that will help you.
For sure, that will be acultivation, because you will
find strength from that.
There's a reason why, in theVedic times, they utilize the

(09:37):
elements.
You know Surya, dev, agni, dev, vayu, and you know all these
were there because, and theywere worshipped they're not
worshipped because they weremore mightier, so to speak, but
there was energies that youcould get from them.
And likewise, you know there'sso many attributes of of god
that you can look at one of thebooks that I would recommend, um

(09:59):
, if you want to look at theattributes of god, is the vishnu
sahasranama, so the thousandnames of vishnu.
That's a great way to justremind yourself of the qualities
that are within you.
Yes, they're, they're dormantin you.
And and if you remind yourselfof your true nature, which is

(10:21):
this, this formless itself, thisconsciousness, then in that
consciousness, remember, is thenirguna and saguna aspect.
So if you are that and I wouldsay this is now leading to the
second suggestion that rememberwho you truly are, which is this
nirguna brahman, which is thisformless awareness.

(10:42):
And within this formlessawareness is all forms.
All forms get their energy fromthe formless.
Without the formless, the formswill have no energy at all, no
way to function, no way to evenexist.
They exist because of theformless.
So, in that play of existence,if you can see yourself as your

(11:02):
true nature, which you are, youhave all the courage in the
world.
See, you don't have to cultivatethe courage, you just have to
discover the courage and that'sall we have to do.
That courage is boundlesswithin you.
It's so vast that you can takeanything on in the world.
Because once you remember yourtrue nature, or if you remember

(11:23):
who you have with you as theformless, as Ishvara, as
Sagunaless, as Ishvara, asSaguna, brahman, as Shukrishna,
you will go through life with alot more conviction and courage
to face any ordeal.
So, whatever it is, maybethere's a fear that you have,

(11:43):
you'll be able to address thefear that now, for example, I
have a fear of heights.
So there's a certain level Ican go to, but after that I'm
like, okay, I can't, I can't domore than that.
I know my limits of the body.
Now, yes, that also requiresthat certain courage is given.

(12:03):
When it comes to that, I haveto be courageous.
If I have to go a bit higherthan I would normally like, I'll
have to find that couragewithin.
Then one remembers one's truenature and it becomes very easy.
So, although, yes, you saidthat just reminding yourself
that I am not the bodydefinitely is not enough, that's
not complete.
If you're not the body, thenwhat are you?

(12:26):
That's what, something you'regoing to have to remember.
So when you say I'm not thebody, or I'm not the body, then
what are you?
That's what, something you'regoing to have to remember.
So when you say I'm not thebody, uh, and.
Or I'm not the mind, you'rekind of just taking one half of
the teaching.
The other half would be butwhat is your true nature?
Is this atman, is this brimman?
So, uh, yes, so to walk withthat inner power that you talk
about, one has to remember one'strue nature.

(12:47):
And if that's a bit morechallenging, then I would
suggest the easier way would beto surrender to god and remember
that god is a giver of allbounties, of all strength, of
all courage, and with that youwill also find there is courage
for you.
Um, okay, so that's my answer.
If you have any follow ups, please do ask.

(13:09):
More than happy to answer those.
And if anyone else has aquestion, you know you can
always ask in the comments and Iwill definitely address them in
a podcast episode.
Thank you very much forlistening.

(13:30):
And yes, do look afteryourselves and just remember
your true nature.
Is this Nirgun Brahman, is thisNirakar, is this vast,
boundless consciousness?
And the more you remember that, the more you'll be at peace.

(13:52):
Take care, everyone.
Namaste.
