Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello and welcome to
the Bearded Mystic Podcast and
I'm your host, rahul N Singh, soI have some updates to give
today.
I know I haven't posted in awhile it's been some time and
it's just because I've been busywith a lot of things going on
(00:21):
in life in general, so going onin life in general so, and with
work and and all that stuff.
So I haven't been able torecord any videos or podcasts.
And then I do have a questionthat's come from Dylan G, who is
a long-time listener of thepodcast, and I plan to answer
(00:41):
that hopefully tomorrow, otherwise it will be next week
for sure.
Now I want to give some updatesbecause it's been some time.
We've been discussing andyou've been hearing that I will
be creating and publishing acourse, hopefully by the end of
(01:01):
this year, a course hopefully bythe end of this year.
So that has gone on hold fornow because there's a lot of
work that has to go into it.
So it's not just writing, it'salso writing the script, then
it's editing the the script, then recording, then editing the
recording and then recording, then editing the recording and
(01:26):
then uploading and then and alsothen giving the supplementary
materials.
So to give my proper time andattention to it right now just
seems a bit difficult.
However, you know, I'm notgoing to be not working on
(01:46):
anything.
That's just not me.
So for quite some time I've beenthinking and it's been
especially since Krish, my son,has been born that I would love
to create a book which, if I hadstarted out on spirituality or
when I had those doubts inspirituality or when I was going
(02:10):
through a crisis of faith, whatbook would I like to see?
Or what book would help me tounderstand my true nature in a
more accessible and quick way?
Now, there's no end to theamount of books that are out
there and you know each one, youknow, is amazing for sure.
(02:33):
I'm not going to even questionthat and most of those books
have probably helped me.
However, I feel, like with thepodcast and how much I've been
expressing myself and how muchI've been working, even with the
course, and because half thecourse has been kind of written
(02:53):
at this moment.
So you know the rest has to bewritten, and but the book is
something I've already startedon, it's something I've been
thinking about for a while, sothe kind of the planning of the
book has been there for quitesome time, probably because, say
(03:14):
, 18 months, and now, you know,I kind of fleshed it out into
what I want in the book and howI want it to be presented, and
how I want it to be presentedand how I want it to be.
So that has obviously comeabout in more recent times, so
you will see more about that.
(03:35):
Now.
What does the book entail?
So, really, I wanted it to andI want it to be a book where
people will reflect upon likeit's like their friend, that
they go to that whenever theyhave a question, that book
should have the answer.
(03:55):
If not, then revised editionswill be created.
But, jokes aside, it should bea book which is simple to
understand but it doesn't takeyou away from the depth of the
scriptures or Vedanta in general.
(04:17):
Now, obviously, I've grown up ina spiritual household and you
know I received Brahmagyaan at ayoung age, something I'm still
trying to understand fully, fully, uh, so it's this.
(04:42):
This book is literally memarrying the brumgian that I
received to advaita vidanta andhow they, they both, support
each other.
Uh, so I I am thinking of krishin my mind when I'm writing it.
So when I write it, it it'scoming from the place that I
know that Chris will read thisone day, or hopefully will read
it one day, and he will be like, okay, this makes sense.
(05:06):
Thank you for writing this.
So the book is not only goingto be you know, obviously it's
there with the knowledge, butyou know, how can we practically
apply it?
How can we?
So in the book there's a wholeaspect of Shravanam Mananam
Nididhyasana.
So even going through thatprocess of you know, you listen
(05:29):
to something, then how do youbelieve in it, how do you have
faith in it?
And then, okay, what's thepractical application of the
teaching?
So it's not just going to bejust theory, but also it's going
to have practical steps thatyou can do to help you grow
spiritually.
So it's important for me thatthat has that and how.
(05:53):
Whatever we talk about in thatbook is also there in the
scriptures.
There's nothing absent from thescriptures.
So really, that's the uh, theupdate that I wanted to give.
And while I've been writingthis so far, what I've
(06:14):
discovered within myself is thatI have to translate my
experience into words and Ihaven't done that in a while.
Actually, with creating ascript for the course, I haven't
had to do that.
It's kind of like I know what Iwant to write and then I just
just write it.
(06:35):
So it's definitely coming morefrom the mind and intellectual
level, not saying there's noexperiential teaching in there.
There obviously will be.
But with the book it's totallydifferent because I'm trying to
keep it into very concise kindof sentences.
So having to convey somethingsimply but effectively is the
(07:00):
challenge, and making sure thatmy experience is pouring through
rather than just myintellectual knowledge, which
which would be a disserviceactually, if it was that Anyone
can speak about what Vedanta isand what Brahman is and what
formless awareness is.
Anybody can talk the talk.
(07:22):
But how can one transmit thatmessage where, regardless of
where you are in spirituality,it speaks to you?
And fundamentally that's whatI'm trying to achieve with the
book, because until we know ourtrue nature, there's no way
we're going to have peace inlife, there's no way we're going
(07:42):
to have bliss in life, there'sno way we're going to be content
in life.
We will be chasing things untilwe can die.
And when we die, then we alsodo not know what's going to
happen after that.
And you know, for example, sayyou achieve moksha, fine.
But say, if you don't achievemoksha.
Then what will you do?
(08:03):
You're going to live the nextlife or you're going to live it
in the same way.
And I see the cycle of samsarato be literally like a hamster's
wheel, when you see a hamstergoing on the wheel constantly.
Or you're on a treadmill andyou think you're going somewhere
but you're not going anywhere.
And and are we doing that withour own lives?
(08:25):
You know, life after life afterlife, are we just doing the
same run-of-the-mill stuff andnot actually challenging
ourselves to advance spiritually?
You know, my guru often used toquote this from a French
philosopher that we're not humanbeings having a spiritual
(08:47):
experience, we are spiritualbeings having a human experience
.
And I think this is reallyimportant because we have to
analyze within our own self do Isee myself as a human being or
do I see myself as a spiritualbeing?
The moment I understand mynature to be spiritual, that is
consciousness, that is the Atma, that is the soul, whatever word
(09:10):
we want to use.
When I realize that, then I gotto understand how the human
experience fits into that.
And it's pretty easy, right?
Because I know my true natureand I know that I have a body
and mind that's allowing me toexperience this humanity, this
humanness, and it's beautiful.
That's allowing me toexperience this humanity, this
(09:32):
humanness, and it's beautiful.
But on the other hand, if I'msomeone who is thinking they're
human beings, so this body andmind is who I am, then I would
just be chasing spiritualexperiences.
So, for example, I may go tothe mandir, I may go to the
temple and I may listen to theaarti and I can feel all elated,
and I may listen to the Aartiand I can feel all elated.
I can go to a Jagratha orJagran, where they sing the
(09:54):
praises of the Divine Mother orShivji for all night, and I can
feel ecstasy from that, I canfeel joy from that.
But does that joy becomeeverlasting?
Or is it everlasting, or is itthat at the end of it I'm not,
I'm really tired and I just needto sleep, and or I go to an
(10:17):
arati and as soon as that's done, I've had the prashad and I'm
off home and I'm and I haven'tchanged.
So so what even we refer to asspiritual experiences may just
be rituals is what I'm trying tohint towards.
(10:37):
So when we change the dynamic tounderstanding that, you know,
I'm a spiritual being having ahuman experience.
I live life in a different way.
I live life in a different way.
I live life in a differentmanner and ultimately, you know,
this book that I'm writing isactually exploring that idea
(10:59):
that you know we are spiritualbeings having a human experience
, not human beings having aspiritual experience.
Because, trust me, you can keepchasing spiritual experiences
and you will get nowhere.
I mean, you will get somewhere.
I'm not saying, I'm not tryingto diminish it in any way, but
what I'm saying is to reach theheights of spirituality where,
(11:21):
you know, the Upanishadic seersspoke about that.
Shri Krishna guided ArjunaUddhava towards Krishna, guided
Arjuna Uddhava towards thatreality, that highest knowledge.
It's available to us and we canlive it.
You know, a lot of people wouldkind of say well, the Bhagavad
(11:44):
Gita is complex.
How can you be humble in thecorporate world, the corporate
world, and nobody's telling youto be a doormat.
Shri krishnan didn't tell ajahnto be a doormat.
Humility in the sense of youknow your weaknesses as a human
being, as a body and mind, thatyou know that it will have
(12:05):
certain weaknesses and andopportunities to grow, that
that's all you know.
Or even spiritually, you knowthat you've reached a certain
level.
You've got to be humble enoughto say you know, there's more
that I want to achieve.
Or even if you achieve thehighest, then you're humble
about it.
You know people that go aroundsaying, well, I'm self-realized,
(12:27):
and they say you know, I'veachieved, attained
self-realization.
And they and they say, you knowI've achieved, attained
self-realization, they're thebiggest losers on the planet,
because and I would questionwhether they achieved anything
at all, because I get it we livein a world where we kind of
have to declare things you know, and someone may say, well,
(12:47):
shukrishan says you know, thosethat come to me enter into me or
merge into me, or they attainme.
It's true, but we've got tounderstand from what aspect he's
speaking from.
He's not speaking from the body, he's not speaking from the
body-mind complex or theintellect.
He's talking from the Atmabrahman, from the ultimate
(13:11):
aspect.
And so anyone today, when theysay they are self-realized in my
opinion I've never seen there'ssome swamis out there that are
totally amazing.
I've not seen them say they'rethe next best thing since I
spread and if you can't behumble enough in your
(13:31):
realisation, then I wonderwhether it's your ego that has
adopted a spiritual ego andtherefore thinks it's reached
somewhere, or it's, or youhaven't achieved anything, but
you're trying to bluff your way,and that's also possible.
(13:53):
So, even if you'reself-realized and you're
enlightened and, yes, you maywell be, yeah, but just remember
to be humble and that, in thatmanner, if you are self-realized
, and everyone is self-realized,because there's only you that
exists, and sometimes that's howyou catch people out, that's
(14:18):
how you catch them out.
Anyway, I'll end it there.
