Your true nature is like the vast sky—unchanging and untouched by the storms of thoughts and emotions that pass through your awareness. When we understand ourselves as formless consciousness rather than our passing mental states, we find freedom not by stopping our emotions but by recognizing they cannot bind our true nature.

• Thoughts and emotions are like clouds that appear and disappear in the sky of consciousness
• Our true nature is like the sky—vast, unchanging, and unharmed by mental storms
• The formless awareness (Nirguna Brahman) holds all beings just as the sky holds all clouds
• Practice remembering you're not the passing emotion but the open, silent awareness
• Use practices like mantra repetition to stabilize the mind during emotional turbulence
• Freedom comes not from stopping emotions but from knowing you were never bound by them
• See emotions as objects rather than subjects to gain mastery over them
• The more we abide as formless awareness, the more peaceful and at ease we become

Speaker 1 (00:00):
If you are the sky, why fear the storm?
From the Advaita standpoint, thoughts and emotions are like
clouds they appear and theydisappear.
You can never hold on to asingle thought alone, because
another thought will take over, then an emotion will take over

(00:24):
and we live in that cyclicalnature.
So if thoughts and emotions arelike clouds, what is our true
nature?
Our true nature is like the skyit's unchanging, vast and
untouched, unharmed by thoughtsand emotions.
One's awareness, due to itsformless and changeless nature

(00:44):
and because nothing can impactit, because it's a subject, it
does not get influenced, nordoes it get harmed by thoughts
or emotions.
Storms come and go.
I live in Georgia, america, soit's very natural to kind of see

(01:05):
storms.
They make a regular appearance.
Now, despite the many stormsthat have happened, the sky has
remained the same.
The sky still remains clear andlimitless, even though the
storm is below it.
Yeah, so that's the Advaiticpoint of view that you, as your

(01:25):
true nature, are clear, limitless, formless, untouched,
unharmed, unblemished.
Whilst thoughts may have itsturbulent nature, emotions may
have its turbulent nature, butyour awareness is not affected
in any way.

(01:46):
When we stabilize ourselvesthrough brahm, what happens is
that the sattva reveals, theguru reveals this formless, this
nirankar, this brahman, is thisinfinite sky of consciousness,
and do not see it as anythingless than that.
There's no less or more here.

(02:06):
This consciousness that you are, that infinite sky of
consciousness, is the formless.
It is God.
So, just as clouds float in thesame sky, all beings are held
in the same one.
The clouds can have differentshapes and sizes.
All beings with their thoughts, emotions and vasanas, and

(02:26):
tendencies and habits and karma.
They're all held in this oneformless Brahman, this formless
known as Nirguna Brahman,attribute-less Brahman.
So what's the practical takeawayfrom this?
How are we meant to deal withthis?
How does this help us?
Well, whenever emotions stormup within, whether that's anger

(02:46):
or fear, anxiety, just rememberyou're not the passing cloud.
Rest and abide as the skyitself, open, silent and unmoved
.
And therefore, when those fearsand anxiety and anger and
jealousy come up, you can justrelax and remember that your

(03:08):
true nature is silent, isunmoved, is unchallenged, not
affected by these emotions, eventhough they feel turbulent.
We are to go back to thatawareness.
Even though we anger, fear andanxiety may create a storm
within you and they may leave animprint.
This is when we use things likeNaam Japa or Sumiran, when you

(03:33):
remember the mantra your Guruhas given you.
The more you do that, the morethe mind stabilizes.
So when these storms come up,they won't create a whirlwind of
responses.
You will be able to be stillsilent and steadfast in your
spiritual journey.
So these storms will have lessof an effect.
Not saying, the storms will notappear and disappear as long as

(03:56):
you have a human body.
They may appear again, whoknows?
But no longer will you identifyas that or identify as the
emotion.
So you won't be saying like, oh, I am angry.
You can just say you just knowanger is there within your mind.
You can sense it, see it morelike an object.
It's more tangible.
Therefore you can do somethingabout it.

(04:16):
When something is intangible, you feel powerless.
Spirituality is about masteringemotions.
This happens when we seeemotions as the object and not
the subject, which the mindnaturally does.
It naturally creates emotionsto be the subject and makes God
or awareness like an object.
Freedom is not about stoppingthe storm.

(04:38):
We're not there to stop.
You can't stop your emotions oryour thoughts, but by knowing
that you were never bound by it.
So that's all we have to do.
You are that boundless sky, thebinding nature of thoughts and
emotions.
They cannot touch yourconsciousness, they cannot bind
your consciousness, they cannotbind your awareness.

(04:59):
So just remember clouds pass, storms fade away, but the sky
remains.
And abide as the sky, meaningabide as formless awareness, and
nothing can shake you, nothingcan harm you.
The more we abide as formlessawareness, the more we

(05:19):
understand that we are thisNiranjaka, we are this God, the
more we remember and abide inthat, the more peaceful the mind
becomes and the more at ease weare with life, so we can flow
with life.
Thank you very much forlistening.
