"Friday Night Live" returns to The Ben Maynard Program after weeks of incredible guest interviews! Freshly showered and ready to engage, Ben jumps straight into an authentic, unfiltered conversation about—ironically—our filter-obsessed culture. He shares candid thoughts on dating profile dishonesty and the bizarre phenomenon of people hiding behind digital enhancements when everyone knows what they really look like.

The infamous Malört Challenge makes its triumphant return, with Ben downing a shot of the notoriously bitter liquor (plus an ancient jelly bean stuck to the glass) when a viewer calls in. His reaction alone is worth tuning in for—a moment of genuine suffering in the name of audience entertainment that exemplifies the spontaneous fun of live programming.

Between sips of caffeine-enhanced water and reflections on energy drinks, Ben offers a comprehensive recap of recent podcast guests who've graced the show. From Mick Heyman's financial wisdom in "Mellow Your Money" to Randy Latzman's heartfelt poetry for mothers, and Chris Skates' incredible survival story battling a rare form of leukemia with just a 2% survival rate—the diversity of conversations highlights what makes this podcast special.

The episode takes an unexpectedly moving turn when Ben dons his 1983 high school letterman's jacket to pay tribute to recently deceased classmate Audrey Limon. Reading from his yearbook, he reveals her written ambition to "never get married and have lots of lovers," noting how some parts of her teenage prediction came remarkably true. It's a poignant reminder of connections that span decades and the imprints we leave on each other's lives.

Speaker 1 (00:06):
Hey there, what's happening people?
Welcome into the Ben Maynardprogram.
Thanks for being here.
What's tonight?
Tonight is Friday.
That means it is Friday night.
And, yes, yes, baby, for thefirst time in I don't know how

(00:26):
long we are live, so let's havesome fun.
What do you say?
We are live tonight.
Back, baby, by popular demand.
Yeah, okay, whatever right,let's see.
Let me get this going righthere.
So how's everyone doing?

(00:47):
I hope you're doing splendidnow.
See, look, I told you, I toldyou all I was gonna look a
little bit better.
I'd clean up for you.
Yeah, look much better.
You know, I took a shower.
I did my hair.
It's not a great hair day, butnonetheless I did my hair Shaved

(01:09):
Isn't that great?
Changed, of course.
Changed my clothes.
I have a clean shirt on.
Well, I have clean clothes on.
Yeah, I told you, see, but nomatter what it's, you know, I
mean, I certainly look muchbetter, but you know, it is what

(01:31):
it is.
All right, it, it.
It's not going to get a wholelot better than this and I have
a feature that I could use it's,it's what I don't know like.
It's called retouching orsomething like that so I could
filter myself a little bit if Iwanted.
But come on, really, I don'tneed to do that.

(01:51):
Who does that?
Do you get, do you guys?
You know people on Facebook orTikTok or Instagram, or just
like pictures that they take?
Do you notice that a lot ofpeople use filters?
I don't know why.

(02:13):
Why is that?
I mean, if you're going to takea video of yourself, just put
it out there just like it is,because let's say that you take
a video of yourself, or you takea picture of yourself and
you're sending it to your Idon't know your loved one or

(02:33):
your boyfriend or yourgirlfriend or whatever it might
be.
Whomever it might be, they knowyou don't look like that.
And I remember going back boy,we are getting way off.
We were just getting started.
I remember when I was singleand I had my dating profile up

(02:58):
on Bumble and I'd go through andlook at all the other profiles
and that kind of thing.
So many women, filters, filter, filter, filter, filter.
Oh my gosh, it's like, okay,it's an automatic swipe left.
Because if you can't show whatyou really look like, then I

(03:20):
mean, come on, if you have toput a filter on and maybe it's
not worth looking at.
I don't know.
I don't know, maybe I'm justtired anyway.
So it's Friday night, we're live.
Look, I like I said I fixed upfor you.
I told you I would and, forthose of you who aren't aware, I
put out a video earlier, aTikTok video, letting everyone

(03:44):
know that I would be livetonight.
Didn't think it was going tohappen.
I honestly didn't think it wasgoing to happen, but it did.
And we're here and it's you andit's me.
So let's have some fun.
All right, I've got you know myclean clothes.
All right, I've got you know myclean clothes.

(04:09):
I've got my malort for themalort challenge.
Yes, we'll have the malortchallenge later along with my
shot glass, my mr spock shotglass.
It's been sitting on the deskin the studio over here.
I don't know if I, I don't knowhow long it's been sitting
there with a, a black bean in it, bean boozled jelly bean.
And check this out, look, it'sstuck in the glass.

(04:32):
I've got the glass turnedupside down.
It's stuck in the glass.
I suppose I could take it out,but it's not coming out.
So whatever residue is in thebottom of the glass, that bean
is stuck to it, and whateverdust may have been floating
around here in the studio.
That's in that glass too.
So what's the Malort challenge?
You say, well, if you call intothe program, you know, hang on.

(04:57):
Why is that?
Hmm, why are my banners comingout?
They're coming out the wrongcolor.
Let's try something here.
Style Boom, supposed to be blue.
You don't see what I'm seeing, but yeah, it's supposed to be

(05:18):
blue.
Let's try this and let's trythat.
Nah, not going to work.
I don't know what's going on.
Not going to work.
I don't know what's going on, Idon't know.
It's making me mad.
That's what I want there.
But huh, yeah, the crawl acrossthe bottom of the screen is

(05:38):
black.
My name is black and usuallyit's blue.
And I'm looking at the bottomof my computer screen and it's
blue, but it's not coming up.
That's odd.
So anyway, let's get back tothe Malort challenge.
If you call into the programtonight, there's the number
right at the bottom of thescreen.

(05:58):
If you call in, then I have totake a shot of this wonderful
tasting Malort.
It is the worst tasting liquorever.
And then I have to obviouslyeat that bean at the bottom of
the glass too.
So that's what the Malortchallenge is.
And so I've got my Malort.

(06:22):
I've got, like I said, my cleanclothes, oh, and I've got my
water here.
I've got, like I said, my cleanclothes, oh, and I've got my
water here.
Oh, hang on, shake that up, mywater with a little bit of
caffeine in it, a little bit offlavor enhancer and some
caffeine, a little pick-me-up.
Had a long day, long, long, longday today.
Why, people are texting me, whyare people texting me?

(06:46):
Oh, I see, I see, I know whatam I doing here.
That's not very professional,is it?
But this is a live show.
I see what's going on.
I see what's going on.
Thanks, anyway, uh, yeah, soI've got my my, my.
So I got my little caffeine forpick me up.

(07:07):
It was a long day, long daytoday.
So let me ask you a question, though thinking about that, what
do you guys think about energydrinks and stuff like that?
What's your thoughts?
That, what's your thoughts?

(07:33):
I know for me, I'm not a fan oflike monsters and rock stars
and Red Bulls and those kinds ofthings.
There's a bazillion of them outthere now too.
I couldn't even tell you allthe names.
I'm not a fan of those becauseone they're carbonated, and I'm
not a fan of those because, one, they're carbonated, and I'm not
a big fan of carbonated drinks.
I rarely drink sodas and I'llhave a root beer or a cream soda

(07:57):
from time to time, but that'sabout it.
But I'm not a soda drinker, I'mnot a beer drinker.
I don't like all thatcarbonation.
It just it makes you bloatedand not only that.
But you know, in those monstersand rock stars there's so much,
just so much crap in them.
So I just got a simple flavorenhancer with some caffeine.

(08:18):
Yeah, that usually helps out alittle bit.
I like.
I do like five-hour energies, Ido like those.
Those are pretty good, but it'sgot, however, many milligrams
of caffeine in them, but it'sonly two ounces.

(08:47):
So you get some vitamins, youget a vitamin boost, you get a
caffeine boost, and it's onlytwo ounces.
You're not having to drink 16ounces of some carbonated junk.
So anyway, I don't know.
That's my feelings on energydrinks.
So I don't know, yay or nay, tell me.
Oh, you know what I should do.
Hold on, let me do this.
Also.
Let me open up the comments incase you guys want to comment.

(09:10):
You can comment, you can callinto the program and if you
comment, if you leave a commentthat doesn't get a drink of my
Lord.
Sorry, only for call-ins, andif my wife is out there
somewhere and you call in,that's not counting.

(09:31):
That's cheating.
So there, so anyway, oh, shejust sent me a message.
Tell me to wake up.
What I am awake, gosh, take iteasy on me.
Yeah, catherine's not here,literally, when I said it's you
and me, it's you and me, how'severybody doing?

(09:54):
It's been a while since we'vebeen live, so I don't get to
talk to you guys all that much.
Oh, hi, yvette, all right, that's a no, that's a nay on
energy drinks.
Good job, good for you.
But it has been a while.

(10:14):
But you know what?
Primarily, it's been a whilebecause we've been on a good run
with guests and that's been aton of fun.
That's been a ton of fun and Ihope that you guys have enjoyed
those episodes.
If you've seen them or ifyou've heard them, if not, go

(10:35):
back and give them a look, givethem a listen, whatever.
It is Really really good stuff.
And I think, let me see, Ithink that goes back.
It started with, uh, mickHeyman, that's right, mick came
on.
Um, he, he wrote a book calledmellow your money and we talked
about.
Uh, you know markets and andand money and stuff that I don't

(11:00):
really know much about, butMick does, and he was great
really know much about, but Mickdoes and he was great, he was
great and, um, you know, just agood guy too.
You know, we've, we've.
If you come on, I'm stopping.
If you come on this program, ifyou come on the Ben Maynard

(11:21):
program, you know I'm sorry,we're friends forever, so Mick
and I we stay in touch and checkin with him, that kind of thing
and good stuff.
If you want to buy the bookit's called Mellow your Money by
Mick Heyman you can buy it onAmazon or wherever you get your
books.
All right, yeah, I'm going to,I'm going to plug.

(11:42):
Oh, ah, okay, got our firstcall.
Hold on, let me see.
Did we get it?
Yep, all right, hello, who'scalling?
Wait, wait, hold on, hold on.
I'm sorry, what's that?

(12:03):
Drink, drink, drink, drink,drink, drink.
Thanks, yvette, yeah, you'reobviously watching the podcast
this evening because one I hearme in the background too.
Yes, you're having a beautifullife.

(12:28):
Okay, that's great.
Well, I will as soon as we'redone with this call.
I will, because I'm trying tohold my phone up to the
microphone so people can hear.
And then you know I can't do itall.
I can't do it all.
I can't hold the phone, can'tpour the Malort and all that

(12:49):
good stuff.
So I will when we get off thephone.
Okay, how are you doing?
We're doing good, we're doinggood.
All right, great, we're justwatching you, all right.
Well, have fun doing that.
Okay, well, I'll talk to yousoon and I owe you a drink.
Okay, alrighty, bye.

(13:10):
Oh, of course.
Please, let's not make it oneof those nights.
So here's the Malort in the MrSpock shot glass.
Because a deal is a deal, it isOkay, there's that down the

(13:39):
hatch.
Oh, wait, hang on, let me, letme see if I can.
I'll just stick my finger inthere, why not?
Oh, okay, loosened it up.
I didn't know if that bean wasstill going to be stuck at the
bottom of the shot glass.
Wow, that's bad, that is so bad.
All right, here we go.
Oh, that's bad, that is so bad.

(14:03):
Okay, please be a good bean.
Oh, oh, oh, I have to look atthe box.

(14:23):
I think it might be like skunkspray.
Oh, that's terrible, oh, that'sbad.
Why do I do that?
Why do I do that to myself why?
Oh, I don't know.
I guess it's called engagement,it's called trying to get the
audience to engage.

(14:44):
Oh, that's bad, all right, solet's get back to our run of
guests that we've had.
So we started with Mick.
Go out and buy his book, mellowyour Money.
And then, I think the next week, we had Randy Latzman.
She was terrific.
She was terrific.

(15:05):
She wrote a book of poetry formothers or expectant mothers,
and she was wonderful.
Her book's great.
It's not a how-to book, it's abook's great.
It's not a how-to book, it's abook of poetry.
But it's sectioned just right.

(15:27):
There's three differentsections in the book and based
on where your child is male orfemale, if they're in the
beginning stages or, you know, the early years, you can check
out poems in that section andthen so on and so on, up to like

(15:50):
, up through the teen years, andit's just like it'll cover
situations.
So if you're feeling a certainway, you look up this poem and
you know might help you feelbetter, you might even get some
advice out of it.
Good stuff, she was fun.
She was fun.
She was really good.
So check her out, check herbook.

(16:12):
It's called what's it called?
Doggone it.
I should know this stuff.
These people are my guests,right?
Let me see.
Let me see if I can find ithere in the show log really
quick.
Don't be sorry, yvette, it'sokay, let's see.
Let's go back in the show log.

(16:33):
I don't think I wrote the book.
I don't.
Nope, I didn't write the titleof the book, but I do know her
blog.
Her website issurvivingmomblogcom.
Survivingmomblogcom, and that'swhere the book is.

(16:56):
So she was great.
Then I think we had oh, we hadSpaz.
We had Spaz and Shannon.
You guys remember Shannon.
Shannon is the host of TalkingRock Fan Podcast and I know we
talked about our top five albumsfrom 1985.

(17:19):
That was good stuff.
That was a lot of fun, goodconversation between the three
of us.
And I knew, I knew, before weeven hit record, I knew that our
lists were all were going to becompletely different from one
another.
And they were.
And then was it last week.

(17:39):
Yeah, it was last week.
Last week we must have had aweek off in between, somewhere
around here.
We must have had a week off, because I know it's been forever
since we've been together.
But was Chris Skates?
Chris Skates was awesome.
He was awesome.

(18:00):
What did you say there?
What did you say there, yvette?
Oh, I can't see there.
Yep, that's right, latsman witha Z, that's it.
But yeah, Chris Gates, so, sogood, what a great storyteller.
He's written five books too.
Written five books.

(18:22):
Four of them are fiction basedon real events.
And he was on the podcast totalk about one of his latest
books, which is Moonshine OverGeorgia, which is about it's

(18:42):
based on his grandfather who wasa revenue agent for the state
of Georgia.
And exactly what it isMoonshine, great stuff.
And Chris, like I said, he's agreat storyteller.
He's got a great just.

(19:02):
You know how do I say this.
I mean just what an amazinglife, what an amazing story.
And then, to cap it, battledand beat the rarest form of

(19:24):
leukemia two percent survivalrate, two percent.
And the doctor who cured him,who treated him, had only had
one patient survive.
Now he has two.
And Chris goes through that.

(19:44):
I'll tell you what we couldhave run that episode for, I
mean for four hours.
Easy, it's just, you know.
So, so good.
So you got to go back and checkthis stuff out.
If you haven't.
Just good stuff, anyways, letme take it.
I've got to wash some of thatstuff down.
That's some nasty stuff.

(20:06):
Anyways, let me take it, I'vegot to wash some of that stuff
down.
That's some nasty stuff.
Oh, dear Lord, don't punish meanymore.
So let's see here, how about,if we start with this?
Today is National E-Bike Day.
National E-Bike Day.

(20:28):
Okay, anybody out there with ane-bike Not me, I mean.
I hear they're pretty cool andall, but I'm also just like
really old school too.
I got my, I get two bicycles inmy garage and yeah, I'm just
going to get on them and pedalthem.
I figure I get better work thatway, or more a better workout,

(20:52):
I suppose.
What else Today's NationalCreativity Day?
National Mint Julep Day?
Now wait a second.
National Mint Julep Day?
Now wait a second.
You would think that NationalMint Julep Day would be closer
to, or, you know, right around, the Kentucky Derby, because
isn't that like the drink ofchoice?

(21:14):
Isn't that what everybodydrinks at Churchill Downs?
They have their big old floppyhats and they're drinking their
mint juleps.
Hmm, okay, let's see Then anational water, a flower day?
Now you would think why?
Why?
You would think that that wouldbe pretty much like every day,

(21:35):
or every other day, somethinglike that, I don't know.
But okay, ah, thanks, yvette.
Wow, you must really feelguilty about making me drink the
Malort.
Now you're helping me out.
Yvette just said in thecomments uh, from the heart of a

(21:58):
mother.
That is the name of the bookfrom randy latzman.
From the heart of a mother yeah, good, good stuff.
And uh, randy was kind enoughto read one of her poems out of
there too.
Yeah, it was really really goodstuff.
Uh, also international day ofthe potato.

(22:19):
Okay, I love potatoes, so Iguess it could be.
I see a picture is like purpleones, yukons, red russets all
good stuff.
Love potatoes, all right.
So what else do we have here?
How about a little on this dayin history?
Okay, well, let's see.

(22:42):
Oh, how about if we start?
We could really go back a ways, but let's just start right here
.
In 1909, american jazz musicianand band leader Benny Goodman
was born.
He was known, or dubbed, theKing of Swing.

(23:04):
In 1911, this day in 1911, whatis this day?
Oh, may 30th.
Yeah, the first Indianapolis500 race was run in, of course,
indianapolis, indiana, and itwas won by Ray I don't have my

(23:26):
glasses, my glasses on here, rayHeron, I think that's how it's
pronounced.
Wow, he won it in a whoppingsix hours and 42 minutes, all
right.
6 hours and 42 minutes, allright.
Let's see this day, may 30th in1922, the Lincoln Memorial

(23:49):
honoring President AbrahamLincoln, the 16th president, and
the virtues of tolerance, honesty and constancy in the
human spirit was dedicated inwashington dc.
That was on may 30th 1922, howabout?
Let's see.

(24:11):
How about this day?
In 1942, during world war ii,the british royal air force
British Royal Air Forcedispatched more than 1,000
bombers against Cologne, germany.
All right, and let's see, let'sfinish up with this one here,

(24:34):
may 30th 2012.
Charles Taylor, the formerpresident of Liberia, was
sentenced to 50 years in prisonafter being convicted of crimes
against humanity and war crimesthat were committed during
Sierra Leone's Civil War.
Okay, good stuff, right, right, right, right.
I think we're good there.

(24:57):
We are good there.
So enough of that.
There, we are good there.
So enough of that.
So what do we have coming up?
What do we have coming up?
Let's see, nothing this week.

(25:17):
Nothing this week.
That's why we are live.
So this is good stuff, becausewe haven't done it in a while
anyway.
So this is fun just to sit hereand gab you guys come in and
out, because I see, let's see, working on a couple of things.
We might have a guest nextSaturday or next week, I should

(25:40):
say, which I'll record it onSaturday morning.
You know, I need to change somestuff too, I think when you go
on, maybe, well, I thinkwherever the podcast is and all
the streaming platforms andstuff, oh man, and I totally

(26:00):
forgot all that stuff, stuff,whatever.
I didn't even do a properintroduction, wow, I must really
be tired.
But, um, I think the artworksays new episodes every friday.
Well, close to two years ago, that was the intention was to
have new episodes every Friday, and you know, I mean, it happens

(26:23):
most of the time, but whenever, pretty much.
Uh, let's see, um, I would saybetter than better than 75% of
the time.
If there's a guest, I record ona Saturday.
So I really need to change thatand just have it.
You know new episodes everyweek, or something like that,

(26:43):
but now, whatever, nobody paysattention to it anyhow, you know
, they just tune in, that's itAll the hundreds of thousands of
listeners and viewers.
You guys are the best, the best.
But, yeah, I should change thatartwork Anyways.

(27:05):
So we might have a guest nextSaturday, still waiting to
confirm that the following week, that's the week of the, that
would be the 14th.
Oh, no, show.
Won't have a show that week.
We will be out of town thatweek.
I might throw some TikTokvideos in there just to stay in

(27:30):
touch with you guys.
But yeah, we've got our familycamping trip that weekend.
We're going from, I think, likethe 12th to the 16th, I think
something like that, and sothere won't be a show.
But you know what?
Use that as an opportunity togo back and listen to some of

(27:57):
the old episodes.
There's 92 episodes now.
Tonight is 93.
So use that to your advantage.
You don't have to worry abouttrying to catch up with a new
episode or anything like thatwhenever we have a dark week.
But yeah, go do that.

(28:19):
There's plenty of good stuffout there and I try to let you
guys know whenever there won'tbe a new show.
I've done it a few times whereI'll throw out a past episode
and say, hey, check this one out, check that one out, and so on
and so on.
Just so you guys, it remindsyou of past episodes and if you

(28:47):
haven't seen them or heard them,go back and check them out.
Good stuff, it's always goodstuff.
Come on, I bring you solidcontent.
Okay, I may not have the bestdelivery, may not have the best
delivery, may not have the bestproduction, the greatest sound,
anything like that, but I giveyou quality content, all right,

(29:12):
um, let's see, but I know, okay.
So maybe a guest next week, waiting for confirmation, if not
death, we'll probably do aFriday night live if we don't
book a guest.
And even if we do book a guest, depending on how the work week
goes, who knows?
We might be back here againnext Friday night, just you and

(29:33):
me, and then still have ourguest on Saturday.
We'll see.
Then.
I spoke to somebody today aboutcoming on the podcast and we
may do that the following week,so that would be, I think, the
week of the 21st.
Yeah, I think that would be theweek of the 21st, so I may do

(29:56):
that.
Do it that week, or even theweek of the 28th, One of those
two weeks, and that one's goingto be fun too.
It really is.
I'm kind of lucky, kind offortunate right now.
I've had quite a few peoplereaching out to me wanting to
come on the podcast, so itaffords me the opportunity to

(30:23):
not have to write a show, that'sfor sure, especially with my
work schedule, which has beenabsolutely bananas the last
couple of weeks, but that's theway it is.
What else is going on?
Let's put these things on.
Um, what else is going on?

(30:46):
Let's put these things on.
Oh, next Saturday is going tobe fun.
Next Saturday is going to be somuch fun.
Saturday night, I should say Um, and I feel bad for Catherine.
Um, I'm going to see Angel.
Okay, the band Angel.
You guys know I love that bandand they are so good.

(31:12):
But Catherine and I weresupposed to go see Angel
together and instead I'm takingmy buddy Spaz because
Catherine's niece actually waita second here.
As I think about it,catherine's niece, marina.

(31:34):
She had a baby recently andCatherine's going to travel out
to Austin, texas to go see herand the baby.
She's going to go spend theweekend with them, her and the
baby.
She's going to go spend theweekend with them.
So, but that reminds me wayback when, in the beginning of
this podcast, marina was on theshow.
We did a surprise show.

(31:56):
She was here visiting and wecame up into studio and she
wanted to check out the studioand check out the equipment.
So we put on headphones and Ijust turned everything on and we
just went and we just talked.
So another one go back and lookat it, go back and watch it or

(32:17):
go back and listen to it.
Actually, I think if you go onthe streaming services the
streaming services the show ison.
Uh, the show is listed twicebecause um had the initial drop
and then uh, like I said, thiswas so early on in the podcast
and then Catherine startedplaying with uh, something uh,

(32:40):
on buzzsprout and it ended uploading the episode a second
time.
So it's on there two times.
So it doesn't matter which oneyou listen to, it's all the same
.
But so, yeah, so I'm taking mybuddy Spaz, we're gonna go see

(33:01):
Angel and we're gonna go meetthe band and all that kind of
good stuff.
I am so fired up for this.
It's going to be so much fun.
Sorry, my love, sorry you won'tbe there, but you know that's
your choice.
Ha, I'll tell you what.
I will tell the boys in Angelthat you miss them, okay, I'll

(33:24):
tell Punky and Frank especiallyboys, an angel that you miss
them.
Okay, I'll tell Punky and Frankespecially.
So, yeah, so that's what's uh,that's what's kind of happening.
Um, other than that, you know, not a lot of stuff, just kind of

(33:49):
the usual stuff work.
Oh, we're pouring it.
Well, we're not pouring, we are.
We are grading and forming, getting ready to pour a concrete
slab tomorrow.
That's right.
Yeah, gonna do that tomorrowmorning.
Yes, and it's uh, it's startingto get warm here in southern
california.
I think today was 90 plus, soit'll be about the same tomorrow
.
So, if we get the forms up ingood time, I'm going to jump in

(34:16):
the pool.
You know it, baby.
Yes, I'm going to cool off.
I may not wear anything, allright, I may just go in my
birthday suit.
How's that?
I'm going to scare everyone, yeah, all the children.
Anyway, cover your eyes, coveryour ears, darling.

(34:38):
Anyways, okay, you know, uh,I'm going to leave you with this
, all right?
Yeah, no, this is, this isgonna be kind of a quick one
tonight.
Um, so I'm gonna leave you withthis.

(35:01):
Uh, just recently, um, oh wait, hang on.
Before I do that, let me putthis on.
Amazingly, amazingly, if you'rewatching well, of course you
have to be watching, becausethis is live and you can't be

(35:26):
listening to it live butamazingly, this thing still
somewhat fits.
I mean, I can button it andthose who will be listening to
it at a later date.
I'm putting on my high schoolletterman's jacket and there's a

(35:48):
reason why I'm doing that.
Recently a classmate of mineand many others passed away and

(36:12):
her services were this pastTuesday and I was unable to
attend.
I wanted to go, I was unable toattend and I feel really bad
about it and my former classmateher name's Audrey Lamone and

(36:55):
Audrey and I knew each othergoing all the way back to junior
high school, so the seventhgrade, and you know I won't.
I won't lie, I won't lie toanybody.
I'm not going to say that wewere the best of friends, that
we hung out all the time.
None of that stuff happened.
That's not the point.
Many years later, after highschool, you know you go.

(37:19):
I've been to every single oneof my high school reunions Okay,
reunions, okay and I've been onthe reunion committee for every
single one of my high schoolreunions, except the 10th.
So the very first one I wasn'ta part of, but I was invited to

(37:39):
be a part of the reunioncommittee starting with our 20th
, and I've been there everysingle one.
We had a 20th, a 30th, a 35th,and then we had a 40th, and that
was two years ago, and soAudrey was like she headed up

(38:03):
the committee and nobody couldplan a reunion like Audrey could
.
If it wasn't for Audrey, wewould still have our reunions,
of course, but I just I don'tknow if they would have been as

(38:23):
big or as successful as theywere.
Audrey was a great, she was agreat girl, she was a great
person, she really was.
But she did a fabulous job withall of the reunions and I think
they were so successful, notjust because she was, she headed

(38:45):
up the reunion committee, butbecause she was flat out the
taskmaster.
She really was.
I mean, she just would whipeverybody into shape and when
she needed something done, shewould, you know, assign somebody
a task, and you better get itdone.

(39:05):
You know, assign somebody atask and you better get it done.
And uh, you know, she was greatat it, she was so good at it,
and uh, not, and she wasn't.
She was never um, I guess, forlack of a better word, she was
never nasty about it, nothinglike that, because we were, all

(39:29):
you know, high school classmatesand actually I was kind of like
the outsider on the committee, the rest of the committee
members let's see Leonard, pam, eddie, joanne, and then of

(39:49):
course there was Audrey and thenthere was me, so I guess there
was like six of us, somethinglike that, but they were all
really tight.
In high school.
I was, like I said, I was kindof like the outsider, even
though we all knew each otherand we were all friendly with
one another.
We all got along, you know, there was never had any
crosswords, nothing like thatGood stuff though.

(40:14):
But Audrey passed away recently, like I said, and her services
were on Tuesday, and I reallyreally wish that I could have
been there, and I really reallywished that I could have been
there and I couldn't.
So I wanted to.
Literally, I didn't plan forthis.

(40:35):
An hour before I came on, Isaid you know what I'm going to
do this.
I'm going to do this.
I'm going to pay tribute toAudrey.
I'm going to even put.
I'm going to do this, I'm goingto pay tribute to Audrey.
I'm going to even put myLetterman's jacket on, but I
wanted to read something.
This is right here.

(40:55):
For those of you watching, ofcourse, this is my high school
annual from my senior year of1983 at Whittier High School
year of 1983 at Whittier HighSchool, and I'm sure that most

(41:16):
of the other high schools do itlike this too.
I can't say that they do itlike this anymore, but this is
how.
This is what we used to have inthe annuals after your senior
pictures.
Then there would be a few pageswhere all the seniors could
write their the activities thatthey were involved in and their
ambitions and all that.

(41:37):
I looked up Audrey's and it'skind of apropos and it's kind of
apropos but it says she was thefrosh social chairperson.
She was on ASB council, tennisteam, track team class councils,

(42:00):
she was JV and varsitycheerleader and her ambition was
to become a doctor, live in BelAir, happy, have fun, never get
married and have lots of lovers.
I read that.

(42:21):
I never paid attention to itbefore, I mean, and I got a kick
out of that.
Well, I can't say for sure thatAudrey didn't ever live in Bel
Air.
She may have.

(42:42):
Whether it was for one month, one year, 10 years, I don't know
, not sure.
She may have whether it was forone month, one year, 10 years,
I don't know, not sure.
But she never got married, which is exactly what she said.
I don't know that she had a lotof lovers, but if I had to

(43:19):
guess, I would say she was spoton on that one too.
So you missed by many, many, many people, and I'm sure that
this past Tuesday, at yourservices, the church was packed

(43:40):
and it was probably like a highschool reunion.
I guarantee it so to you, audrey Fly, cardinal fly, and
may you rest in peace.
God bless you, audrey, and thatwas good stuff.

(44:15):
I'm not going to waste that.
I'm not going to, I'm not goingto waste a toast on the Lord.
Are you kidding me?
Uh, so yeah, there you go.
Uh, so let's just uh, let's endit on that note.
