to all of it.
We really need your helpbecause we are on the road to
just continually spreading thenews that God's word is good,
and every time we read throughanother chapter of the Bible,
it's another opportunity to knowGod.
So I want you to help us tospread the word by leaving us a
five-star review.
Let other people know howyou're connecting with God's
(01:02):
word and make sure you're goingto the Bible breakdown
discussion.
There's an amazing group ofpeople there doing a wonderful
job, and they're so faithful, just every day, encouraging us
with God's word, sending usthese different devotions and
things and giving us things tothink about, and so I want to
encourage you to also engagewith them and send in your
questions and make some commentsabout some of the things that
(01:23):
you know about the book ofRevelation, because the more we
dig, the more we find, and onceagain, it's also important and
we're going to do this for everychapter moving on from here is
this idea that we want to give adisclaimer, to say that there
are wonderful teachings outthere.
You can go to Dr MichaelHeiser's teaching, you can go to
(01:44):
the Bama podcast.
You can look at all these otherthings that are great.
There's even a gentleman whorecently came and spoke at Real
Life Church called Dr Andy Gowns, and he has written an amazing
book about the book ofRevelation and its future
meaning, and all of that it'swonderful.
The goal of this podcast is notto look into the far future, but
(02:07):
instead to look at theprinciples of God's word that
was written to the early church, because primarily, it was
written to these early churchesthat were under persecution and
the overall goal of this wasthat Jesus wins.
That was the goal is to remindthem that first, beginning and
last, first, middle and last, jesus wins it all.
(02:29):
There's nothing left afterJesus.
And that's important becausethey were living in this era
where you've got these sevenchurches and they are getting
all kinds of persecution fromRome because of emperor worship,
persecution from the Jewishcommunity, persecution from all
these other places, and thenjust persecution and this
temptation to compromise.
(02:49):
And so every one of thesechapters is the apostle John
saying hey, I had a vision andin my vision Jesus wins and let
me show you how he wins.
And it's also important, beforewe continue, because I know we
can kind of get lost in theweeds, and so I want to bring
this up a few times that there'sdifferent genres in the Bible.
There are different, just likeyou know.
(03:09):
There's fiction, nonfiction, poetry, you know all these
different things.
There's different genres ofliterature in the New Testament
and the Old Testament, and sothere is what's called didactic
literature, and that's justwhere someone is dictating to
you what you need to do.
That's like the letters of Paul.
Then there's narrative,historical narrative, that's
where it's telling the story ofsomething such as the four
(03:30):
Gospels.
Then you have what's calledapocalyptic literature.
It's the prophets, the book ofDaniel and the book of
Revelation, where what thewriter is doing is they will use
these different illustrations, metaphors, allusions, that will
then talk about something thatis real, but it will do that in
almost a form of parables, likewhat Jesus would do, because
(03:50):
it's in these stories that theyare able to relate complex
spiritual principles.
And so that's what the book ofRevelation is doing, because how
in the world would God, writingthrough the apostle John, tell
the church that, hey, you'regoing to be persecuted, it's
going to be bad, it's going tolook like you're losing over and
over and over again.
(04:11):
However, god is doing more thanyou realize and in the spirit
that you can't see, he isdefeating evil rulers, evil
principalities, all thesedifferent things, and he is
winning more victories than yourealize.
So it's going to look likeyou're losing in the physical
world, but in the spiritualworld, man, god's wrecking shop,
how's he going to say that?
(04:31):
He's going to say that bytalking about bowl judgments and
all these other things and allthis stuff.
And so that's why we look atthis and we realize that, yes,
he very well may be talkingabout something that's coming in
the future, and those arewonderful things to look at, but
I'm interested in what theearly church would have learned
and how we can learn from them.
(04:52):
And so in this chapter chapter15, as we're looking at these
seven churches, he's going totalk about the song of Moses and
the song of the lambs.
We're going to read this andthen we want to remember why the
song of Moses was so important.
So, if you're ready, revelation, chapter 15, verse one says
(05:13):
this.
Then I saw in heaven anothermarvelous event of great
significance Seven angels wereholding the seven last plagues,
thank goodness, which wouldbring God's wrath to completion.
I saw before me what seemed tobe a glass sea mixed with fire,
(05:39):
and on it stood all the peoplewho had been victorious over the
beast and his statue.
And this is what they sang.
Great and marvelous are yourworks, o Lord, god the Almighty,
just and true are your ways, oKing of the nations, who will
not fear, who will not fear you, lord, and glorify your name,
(05:59):
for you alone are holy.
All nations will come andworship before you, for your
righteous deeds have beenrevealed.
Then I looked and saw in thetemple of heaven, god's
tabernacle was thrown wide openand the seven angels who were
holding the seven plagues cameout of the temple, and they were
clothed with spotless whitelinen, with gold sashes across
(06:21):
their chests, and one of thefour living beings handed each
of them of the seven angels agold bowl filled with the wrath
of God, who lives forever andever.
The temple was filled withsmoke from God's glory and power
, and no one could enter thetemple until the seven angels
had completed pouring out theseven plagues.
(06:42):
Wow, so what we see here is, ifyou remember that the song of
Moses was the song that Mosessang after they had been
delivered from Egyptian bondage, because, if you remember, they
had been delivered, they wereset free, but then, after they
were set free, the armies ofEgypt tried to destroy them, and
(07:03):
so that's when they went acrossthe Red Sea on dry ground, and
then God calls to miracle andthe water cover back over,
across the Red Sea on dry ground, and then God calls to miracle
and the water cover back over, and it was after that that Moses
sang this amazing song ofdeliverance.
And so what's happening is isthese people, who have been
delivered from this persecution, were singing a song to the Lord
that only they could sing abouttheir deliverance from the
(07:24):
persecution of the enemy.
And I think the overallapplication point that we can
get from this is that worshipnow as if the battle is already
won.
Worship now as if the battle isalready won.
I wanna ask you a question howwould you live today if you knew
the answer to your biggestprayer was already on the way?
(07:49):
Let's say, right now you have aphysical issue and you're
praying for God to heal you.
How would you worship God todayif you knew that tomorrow the
doctor was going to call you andsay Mr or Miss, I have no idea
how this happened, but it's gone.
How would you worship God todayif you had a child who was far
from God?
And tomorrow you got a phonecall and you were worried at
(08:11):
first because you couldn'tunderstand them, because they
were crying so hard.
You thought something bad hadhappened.
But finally, when they wereable to get their voice, they
would say Mom, dad, I had anencounter with Jesus, I know
he's real, I'm following him forthe rest of my life and I'm so
thankful that you didn't give upon me.
How would you worship God todayIf that happened tomorrow?
Maybe it's a financial issue.
(08:31):
Maybe you're doing everythingyou know to do, you're working
as hard as you can, but there'salways too much month at the end
of the money.
Right?
What if, tomorrow, you got acheck in the mail from a time
when you had invested in someoneelse and they said I don't know
why, but God told me to giveyou this and to tell you it's
all going to be okay.
And it was exactly what youneeded to not just get caught up
, but to get ahead.
And then, while you werecelebrating about that, your
(08:54):
boss called you and said hey,I've got a promotion for you.
It's been coming for a longtime.
Here you go.
How would you worship God todayIf you knew the victory was on
the way?
Well, in this chapter, that'swhat God promises the early
church.
He promises them that one day, because they are faithful,
they're going to be in the verypresence of God.
(09:15):
And while God is dealing withhis enemies, he is giving them
an opportunity to celebrate thevictory.
This one, can I tell you.
That's the truth for us.
You know, the answer to theproblem of evil is that many of
us, we struggle sometimes withour relationship with God
because we think that, for somereason, god is faithful to some
people but not faithful toothers.
(09:35):
Well, here's the thing God isalways just and he's always
faithful.
And just because God isn'tfaithful in our timetable
doesn't mean he's not faithful, but one day he's going to right
every wrong, he's going to havecomplete justice and he is going
to be faithful.
And so we can worship God todaybecause we know in some
tomorrow God's going to make allthings new.
(09:57):
Let's pray together right now.
God, thank you so much that wecan trust you and that you are
worthy Lord.
I don't know who may belistening or watching this today
and what battle they may befighting, may be facing, and God
, the enemy wants to make thatbattle and that enemy so big
that all they can see is theproblem.
I pray today you will help themsee your solution and that it
(10:18):
is to be faithful to you.
Jesus, we determinefaithfulness, you determine
fruitfulness and we trust you tomake a way in all things.
In Jesus' name, we pray amen, amen.
What God's word says inRevelation 1, verse seven, say
it with me if you know it by now.
Look, he is coming in theclouds of heaven and everyone
will see him.
(10:38):
My prayer is the more we lookfor Jesus, the more we will find
him in our everyday life.
I love you.
I'll see you tomorrow forRevelation, chapter 16.
