Posey.
Speaker 2 (00:51):
How we doing, dr Dean
oh what a great way to start
the last— New Year's Eve.
Yes, oh, my goodness, the lastshow of the year.
Speaker 1 (00:58):
Sorry, we're yelling
in your ear over there.
New Year's Eve show.
Speaker 2 (01:01):
Yes, we're going to
have a little fun on this show.
We're going to have so much fun.
Just because we're going tohave so much fun, the audience
is going to wish we had stopped.
Speaker 1 (01:10):
And there's no New
Year's Eve cheer required for
this show.
Speaker 2 (01:14):
That's right.
Speaker 1 (01:15):
We just have fun,
we're just going to have fun.
I got some warm coffee in myhand right now.
Speaker 2 (01:19):
Yes, so yeah, we're
going to have some fun today,
yeah, and you know it's going tobe fun.
You know we're going to watchback in this and this show is
going to be a little bit of someleadership and then a lot of
dad jokes you know really, basically the whole set up on
this A lot, a lot of dad jokesLike 90%.
Speaker 1 (01:40):
And it'll probably be
our most listened to show.
It'll probably show Be 100% andit'll probably be our most
listened to show.
It'll probably show Be like man.
That show is great.
Speaker 2 (01:47):
I shared that show
with all my friends.
Oh, that would be so good.
That'd be so good.
Speaker 1 (01:51):
We get up to seven
listeners on this show.
That's freaking great.
Speaker 2 (01:57):
Let's just jump into
some leadership.
I mean, it is the end of theyear.
Speaker 1 (02:01):
It is the end of the
year.
Speaker 2 (02:03):
And so let's just
talk about some leadership
principles, and we're going togo back several decades to Covey
.
Speaker 1 (02:14):
Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 2 (02:15):
And with his book
about seven habits.
What a great.
It's still timeless, timelesswisdom in that book, and so
here's I'll just.
I was telling Tim this before westarted the podcast that I was
listening to a podcast ontriathloning the other day and
(02:42):
there was a great episode aboutgoal setting, and the very first
thing they talked about which Ithink is so important for
leadership is that you want todefine your vision of success.
You want to set your goals or,as Covey would say, you want to
begin with the end in mind.
So, one year from today, onDecember 31, 2025, you want to
(03:05):
look back over the year and saythis is what we accomplished,
and you should have that firmlyin your mind.
What is the goal?
It could just be one goal.
It could be one goal you wantto improve production, you want
to have more clients?
Improve production, you want tohave more clients, you want to
get fitter, you want to getleaner.
(03:27):
Whatever the goal is, I thinkpart of the problem with some
people is they set too manygoals and then they fail within
you know, within a month, andthey just give up.
So my encouragement is set onegoal.
Maybe one goal for yourbusiness and one goal for your
personal life, maybe one goalfor your family life Just one,
(03:47):
don't set 10, 15.
Don't do that.
You're setting yourself up forfailure.
And then say, okay, a year fromnow, in my family, I want to
have gone on one good familyvacation, or I want to celebrate
my spouse's birthday betterthan last year, or, you know, we
want to travel to three newstates or something, some goal.
(04:11):
Once you set that goal, thenthe question is how are you
going to get there?
And so this podcast was sayingyou've got to minimize
distractions.
You know if you're going to,you know plan a trip like we do
normally over Christmas holidays.
Our kids are home and we sitdown and say, okay, when during
(04:34):
the summer, can we all meet?
So, we're already planning ourtrip for next summer right now.
And so well, all the kids arehome, we sit down, pick out the
dates, we pick out where we'regoing, we start looking at
hotels or lodges or whereverwe're going to go, and we make
those reservations now, becauseif we don't, then time gets away
(04:55):
from us and it doesn't happen.
And then we get all frustratedbecause it doesn't happen.
So I say write them down, justwrite them down.
Speaker 1 (05:04):
Yeah, I mean that's
and I always tell people when
when we're teaching you knowseminars, you don't have to wait
until the first year to do goalsetting right.
But most people have this block.
I'll do it the first yearbecause it is sort of like a a
new clean slate you know, firstof the year and people feel good
about doing it.
So you know, this show hits at agood timely thing where you
(05:24):
know at least do it if you'relistening, you know sit down and
do this and I think theintentions of putting that
together.
People don't do goal settingdeep enough and I know that from
experience.
I used to do goal setting.
I've taught goal setting for 20years, you know, plus right
going on 30 years, and I think Iwas really good at goal setting
(05:45):
because I set goals all thetime and I make sure monthly to
review them to see how we'redoing.
I had this one thing I wastaking a client, I was mentoring
him and we were driving up toKansas City.
Well, from here Kansas City,it's about an eight and a half
hour drive and I said bring yourcomputer, let's do goal setting
session.
And we did a goal-settingsession with him.
That was just spectacular.
(06:07):
I mean, it was one of the bestthings I've ever done with any
of my coaching clients andeverything, and it was really
good.
So as we went up there to takea class together and as we were
driving back he pulled out hiscomputer.
He goes let's do you.
I'm like, no, no, I do this.
We're good.
Why are we talking about theteacher?
I?
Speaker 2 (06:24):
don't need that.
I've got this down.
Speaker 1 (06:28):
But he insisted and
we did it.
And boy, I learned that daythat I wasn't doing goal setting
the way goal setting needed tobe done.
I need to do deeper, I need tolook farther into this and I put
more time into goal setting andonce I did that, it changed my
whole outlook, the way I teachit and the way I prepare myself
(06:49):
for the new year.
Really, if you sit down and youreally take the time, not just
sit down for 30 minutes and dogoal setting, but take the
entire day just to brainstormand what you want, where trips
you want to do, what personallyyou want to do, what
professionally you want to do,what spiritually you want to do,
and that really has a lot ofimpact over the course of
(07:11):
direction over the next year.
Speaker 2 (07:13):
It really does.
And then it's like what are yougoing to stop doing in order to
focus on your goals?
You don't want to get to a yearfrom now and go.
You know what?
I just spent so much time onsocial media that I didn't get a
chance to read a book a month,or whatever goal you had.
(07:34):
And so part of goal setting isrealizing if those goals are
your important things, thensomething else has to be less
important, and it's important towrite that all down, put it on
paper, put it on a sticky note, put it on your mirror in the
bathroom, you know, put it onyour.
Put it in your car, put it justremind yourself.
(07:56):
And this podcast that I waslistening to one of the ones I
was listening to was talking tothis woman, and she's a teacher
at the Air Force Academy, she'sa triathlete and she's big on
goal setting and teaching allthat and on habits, and she was
saying that the average personto do a new habit takes 66 days.
Now she said sometimes it takesless, sometimes it takes more,
(08:18):
but the average is 66 days.
So if you're going to have anew goal, whatever that might be
, get up early, read, work out.
Whatever it may be, you've gotto do that for at least two
months for it to become a habit.
It might be a new thing you do,a new schedule, but it might be
(08:39):
a week long and then you'retired of it.
No, you've got to stick with itfor at least two months for it
to begin to be ingrained in yourlife.
Speaker 1 (08:47):
Yeah, I agree.
I mean, you know, for years wetaught 30 seconds a day for 30
days and I think that's reallymore routine.
You're getting in a routine.
I think if you do it for two orthree months it really sticks
in your head and you know you'reretraining your brain to focus
and it becomes something.
When it becomes something likeworking out, when it gets to the
point where you feel bad ifyou're not working out, well,
(09:09):
that's sort of become a habit, right, you know?
But then if you don't do thatfor a couple weeks and here's
the mistake that people make ongoal setting, and I see it all
the time Well, I haven't workedout for, you know, two, three
weeks.
Now, you know I missed a monthin the gym.
I guess I'll just pick it upnext year, right, I'm done the
rest of the year.
I missed a couple weeks.
You know a couple workouts.
(09:29):
No, just get back.
You missed a little bit.
Just get back and do it, right.
Speaker 2 (09:34):
Yeah, but you know,
just take a workout for a minute
.
You missed a couple weeks forwhatever reason.
You know it's like no, it'sholidays.
And then you get back in thegym, you know on January, the
3rd or whatever day it is, andyou try to go back to the same
weight and the same reps and thesame everything that you did
when you stopped.
Speaker 1 (09:52):
Right.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
What a mistake that
is.
You need to ramp up you know, yeah, and so when we're off on
vacation, before I got back toyou know, the gym and swimming
and lifting, it's like, okay,I've been out for a couple of
weeks, I can't start at the samelevel.
So maybe if you're saying youknow I want to do whatever it is
(10:14):
and you stop for some reason itcould be health reason, it
could be vacation, whatever.
Don't set yourself up forfailure by trying to start back
at the same level.
It might take you a couple ofdays, it might take you a couple
of weeks to get back up to thatlevel, but the key is
(10:34):
consistency.
Speaker 1 (10:35):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (10:36):
You know, that is
really a key.
Speaker 1 (10:38):
Yeah, you know
holding yourself accountable,
finding the motivation and youknow putting the plan in place.
If you can do all those things, you're going holding yourself
accountable, finding themotivation and you know putting
the plan in place.
If you can do all those things, you're going to have success in
this.
And you know it's just beingdisciplined.
You know yes.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
And so this one guy I
was listening to he was talking
about a calendar and this isvery old school, because so many
people now keep track ofeverything on their phone he
said, no, what he does to holdhimself accountable.
He printed off a huge calendar.
He puts it in his room this isfor stretching and those kinds
of things before he goes andrides his bike.
(11:14):
He says when I do that, I put abig X on the calendar so that I
can visually look to see howmany days in a row I have done
that.
And I hold myself accountableby putting an X on the calendar.
So, however you do that, if youdon't have someone to hold you
accountable, figure out a way tohold yourself accountable for
(11:35):
those goals.
And if you're the leader of anorganization, a company,
whatever, the question is, howare you setting yourself up for
to being accountable?
Do you talk about your goalsevery week at staff meeting or
however long you have staffmeeting?
How are you doing that?
And that's just reallyimportant part of keeping your
goals.
Speaker 1 (11:55):
And then one of the
biggest things you know at the
end of your goal setting is tocelebrate you know, celebrate
progress.
And you know it's time to dreambig.
It's time to tell dad jokes.
Speaker 2 (12:05):
It's time to do
everything.
Speaker 1 (12:07):
I mean, when you're
doing goal setting and you've
accomplished a lot of stuff overthe course of the year, what do
you do?
You celebrate, and youcelebrate with dad jokes and by
gosh, if you don't like dadjokes have a happy new year,
because we're just going intowe're transitioning into dad
jokes for the remainder of theshow so enough about goal
(12:30):
setting our goal for the next 45minutes.
Okay, wait a minute.
I mean you've got a couplelists there, you got a whole I
have.
Speaker 2 (12:42):
So many dad jokes, it
will literally take us into
next year.
Speaker 1 (12:45):
All right, okay, you
get the button ready.
Let me clear out some stuff.
I've got a lot of stuff in myway.
Speaker 2 (12:53):
There's going to be
some really bad ones.
Speaker 1 (12:55):
No, here's what it is
.
Before we do lose, some peoplehave a happy new year.
Thank you for hanging out withus all year.
I know, you know, we can seeall the numbers of listeners out
there and we appreciate you.
We really do, and we have somereally, really big plans coming
up in this next year as wecontinue our, our Bible series,
um, to finish that out and and,uh, uh, spend the next year
(13:18):
doing that.
So, uh, please, uh, you know, keep listening to us and we just
want to do a big thank you, youknow really.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Yeah, and just for
some of our listeners around the
country, it's going to be niceweather, you know, for New Year
today, while you're maybegrilling out some burgers.
But if you're grilling burgers, don't forget the pickle,
because it's a big deal don'tforget the pickle, because it's
a big deal.
I had to throw that in there,oh my gosh, I didn't even get a
(13:48):
button for that one.
Speaker 1 (13:49):
Oh yeah, I was, I was
, I was preparing mine.
I'm trying to figure out all mydad jokes here, you know.
Speaker 2 (13:55):
So, uh, let's see
okay all all well, I have a
whole list of dad jokes, butthey're all about the New Year's
.
Speaker 1 (14:05):
Really, I've got some
.
Speaker 2 (14:06):
New Year's ones too.
I've got some.
Speaker 1 (14:08):
What's a cow's
favorite New Year's resolution,
I don't know?
To turn over a new leaf andmove on from the past.
Move on from the past, okay, okay.
Speaker 2 (14:20):
Okay.
So what is a spider's NewYear's resolution.
Spider's New Year's resolutionis Just spend less time on the
web.
Speaker 1 (14:36):
No, I gave you the
wrong one for it.
I hit the wrong button.
I needed that one.
I needed the rim shot.
You know what's the New Year's?
Speaker 2 (14:50):
resolution for a
ghost.
I've heard this one, I don'tremember.
Speaker 1 (14:53):
To me to be more
transparent.
Speaker 2 (14:57):
Oh, okay.
What does every new year havein?
Speaker 1 (15:04):
store.
For us A new year.
Speaker 2 (15:07):
Another 365 days.
Speaker 1 (15:10):
That was close, that
was close, you were really close
.
Speaker 2 (15:15):
Why do you need a
jeweler on New Year's Eve?
Speaker 1 (15:21):
Let's see why do I
need a jeweler on New Year's Eve
?
Boy?
Speaker 2 (15:26):
To ring in the new
year.
Speaker 1 (15:31):
All right, there you
go.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
Oh, now about the
ghost.
You said something about theghost, I was thinking about a
whole different thing aboutghosts.
So what does a ghost say onJanuary 1st?
Speaker 1 (15:44):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (15:45):
Happy Boo Year.
Speaker 1 (15:50):
All right, I'll go
for January 2nd.
Why did the gym close onJanuary 2nd?
Speaker 2 (15:57):
I don't know.
Speaker 1 (15:57):
It couldn't handle
the weight of everyone's
resolutions.
Speaker 2 (16:00):
Oh gosh.
Had to throw some groaners inthere, okay, so some people are
going to be watching the TimesSquare thing tonight, right, oh
yeah.
Okay, so why is partying inTimes Square always overrated?
Speaker 1 (16:16):
Why is partying in
Times Square always overrated?
Do not know.
Speaker 2 (16:20):
Because they drop the
ball every year.
Dang it, you were going to gothere on that one.
Speaker 1 (16:25):
I had that one, as
what's the best thing about New
Year's?
You can drop the ball andeveryone cheers for you.
Speaker 2 (16:30):
Yes, that's it.
Oh, okay, here's another one.

same year?
Speaker 1 (16:47):

Speaker 2 (16:57):

I don't know, I'm not ready toturn the page yet, oh God.
Speaker 2 (17:20):

Speaker 1 (17:32):
I do not know.
Speaker 2 (17:34):
Hogs and kisses.
Speaker 1 (17:38):
I need to press the
button.
Oh my gosh, let's see.
Speaker 2 (17:47):
Oh, I got it.
This is old school.
This is really old school joke,Knock knock.
Speaker 1 (17:54):

Radio Radio who?
Speaker 2 (17:56):

Speaker 1 (17:59):

The new year's going good sofar, so far so good, right, okay
, did you hear about the guy whostarted fixing breakfast on
midnight, december 31st?
No, he wanted to make NewYear's toast.
Speaker 1 (18:34):
I don't know, I want
to do both.
Can I push both buttons?
Yeah, you can push both of themat the same time.
That was actually funny.
It was so stupid, it made melaugh.
I love it.
Let's see what else do I have?
Speaker 2 (18:51):
Oh, I got another one
.
I got another one for you, okay.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (18:55):
How do you keep a New
Year's resolution to read more
while never opening a book?
Speaker 1 (19:06):
I'm going to repeat
that this is an important one.
Speaker 2 (19:08):
right, it's a good
one.
Okay, how do you keep a NewYear's resolution to read more
while never opening a book?
Speaker 1 (19:16):
I do not know.
Speaker 2 (19:17):
You watch TV with
subtitles?
Speaker 1 (19:24):
Yeah, okay, oh, my,
that was pretty good.
Speaker 2 (19:29):
That was a good one.
Speaker 1 (19:32):
Not really.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Oh, I got another one
.
Okay, it's basketball season,right?
Yes, it's basketball season, middle of basketball season.
What New Year's resolutionshould a basketball player never
make?
A New Year's resolution that abasketball player should never
make?
You were a football guy, sothis is basketball, yeah.
Speaker 1 (19:54):
Yeah, I was
basketball too, but football in
college I don't know.
Speaker 2 (19:59):
To travel more.
Speaker 1 (20:02):
All right, that would
be bad.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
That would be bad.
Speaker 1 (20:08):
I just thought of one
.
Speaker 2 (20:09):
Okay, go ahead.
Speaker 1 (20:10):
It's not New Year's,
Alina.
Speaker 2 (20:12):
I'm ready.
I'm going to press the button.
What do you call a?
Speaker 1 (20:14):
factory that makes
okay products.
I don't know A satisfactory, asatisfactory.
Speaker 2 (20:26):
I was going to say,
is their product okie dokie?
Speaker 1 (20:31):
What's orange and
sounds like a parrot.
Speaker 2 (20:34):
An orange parrot, a
carrot.
Speaker 1 (20:37):
A carrot.
What do you call a snowman witha six-pack?
Speaker 2 (20:44):
Oh yes, An abominable
snowman.
Speaker 1 (20:46):
A domino, a domino.
A snowman with a six-pack, ohyes, and a bumble snowman.
A domino, a domino, whatever.
Speaker 2 (20:51):
Why do birds fly
south for New Year's Eve?
Speaker 1 (20:56):
I don't know.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Because it's too far
to walk.
Speaker 1 (21:00):
What do you call?
How do you organize a spaceparty?
Speaker 2 (21:05):
Get out of the way.
Speaker 1 (21:06):
You plan it.
Speaker 2 (21:08):
Okay, here we go.
A space party Get out of theway.
You plan it, you plan it.
Okay, here we go.
Why?
Speaker 1 (21:17):
did the man sprinkle
sugar on his pillow on New
Year's Eve?
Speaker 2 (21:20):
Why did the man
sprinkle sugar on his pillow on
New Year's Eve?
Speaker 1 (21:22):
Lots of thoughts I
don't know.
Speaker 2 (21:24):
He wanted to start
the year with sweet dreams.
Speaker 1 (21:29):
Oh my gosh, I got
both of us at the same time.
Oh my goodness, why do crabsnever give to charity?
Speaker 2 (21:38):
Don't know.
Speaker 1 (21:38):
Because they're
shellfish.
Okay.
Why are elevator jokes so good?
They work on so many levels, ohyes, I should have known that.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
Okay, here we go.
I was going to quit all my badhabits for the new year, but
then I remembered that no onelikes a quitter.
Speaker 1 (22:07):
Why did the math book
look sad?
Speaker 2 (22:11):
Because the answers
were only the odd ones, or
something what?
Speaker 1 (22:15):
It had too many
problems.
Speaker 2 (22:16):
It had too many
problems.
Speaker 1 (22:19):
One more why can't
your nose be 12 inches long?
Speaker 2 (22:26):
Because, it'd be a
foot.
Okay here you go.
All right, your turn be a foot.
Okay, here you go.
All right, your turn for asecond.
I was rapid firing over here.
Okay, you were At the beginningof the year.
I'm going to make a New Year'sresolution to lose 10 pounds.
Yeah, only 15 more to go.
Speaker 1 (22:49):
Is that 15 years
right?
So what?
Speaker 2 (22:53):
happened to the man
who shoplifted a calendar on New
Year's Eve.
He got 12 months.
Speaker 1 (23:05):
Oh, finally got the
applause.
He had to give it to somebodythere.
Speaker 2 (23:12):
Oh okay, here's a
good one.
Speaker 1 (23:14):
Here's a good one.
Speaker 2 (23:15):
Some of the people in
our audience can be able to
relate to this one.
Speaker 1 (23:19):
Yes.
Speaker 2 (23:20):
An optimist stays up
until midnight to see in the new
year.
Okay, a pessimist stays up tomake sure the old year leaves.
Speaker 1 (23:38):
Yeah, that's pretty
good.
I like that one.
I was just trying to think ofsome optimist dad jokes.
Speaker 2 (23:48):
Optimist dad jokes I
don't know any, you don't know
any.
Yeah, but last year I was ableto keep all my New Year's
resolutions tucked away in ajournal on my bookshelf.
Speaker 1 (24:02):
Why don't calendars
ever feel sad?
Speaker 2 (24:06):
Because they can
always turn the page.
Speaker 1 (24:08):
Always looking
forward to better days, oh okay,
that's close you were close.
I was close.
I like a C on that.
Yeah, all right.
Speaker 2 (24:19):
How many more you got
