In this episode, we aren't going to just ask and answer a bunch of questions about AR 600-52. No, we are going to focus on questions that are at a difficulty level that every PV2 should be able to answer.

The episode is broken into 4 chapters:

The Pre-Test

The Lesson

The Re-Test

Repetition

Feel free to jump into the Pre-Test, and if you know everything, skip to the next difficulty level. If you want to know more about a question, stick around for the Lesson, where we will teach you what everything means. Then we'll re-evaluate at the Re-Test, and help you have it down consciously and sub-consciously in the Repetition chapter.

The questions we are going over are:

What does POSH stand for?

What does "victim-centered" mean in SHARP?

What rights do SHARP victims have?

What is the role of the SARC and VA?

Can DA Civilians use SHARP services?

Are commanders authorized to conduct internal inquiries or investigations of sexual assaults upon receiving a report?

What is the Catch a Serial Offender (CATCH) program?

What is the Safe to Report policy?

Welcome to the Board Questions podcast, where you can study for
your promotion or Soldier of theMonth board while driving,
commuting, or playing video games.
Today we will be focusing on questions about the SHARP
program that every E3 Private First Class and above should
know after getting a feel for their responsibilities in their
unit. Each of these episodes will

(00:21):
start with a pretest chapter, and if you confidently answer
every question, move on to the next most difficult episode and
test yourself there. If you didn't stick around and
start the lesson chapter where we will teach you each of the
answers in the lesson phase. Then the retest chapter will
give you a chance to try again. If you want to solidify your

(00:42):
answers subconsciously, the repetition chapter will repeat
the questions and answers, and you can solidify what you've
just learned by repeating them out loud.
Let's get started with the pretest, the Pretest chapter.

care, minimizing secondary victimization, and ensuring
safety. Question 19.
What rights do SHARP victims have to be treated with dignity,
receive medical care, confidentiality, be informed of

(01:30):
case progress, and request transfers or protective orders?
Question 20. What is the role of the SARC and
VA? They provide advocacy, help
victims access services, explainreporting options, and support
victims throughout the process. Question 21.

(01:51):
Can DA civilians use SHARP services?
Yes. They may file a report and
receive advocacy, but not expedited transfers or legal
services unless otherwise authorized.
Question 22. Are commanders authorized to
conduct internal inquiries or investigations of sexual
assaults upon receiving a report?

(02:14):
No question 23. What is the Catch A serial
offender catch program. ADOD tool allowing victims to
anonymously submit suspect info to identify repeat offenders.
Question 24. What is the Safe to Report
policy? Protects victims from punishment

(02:37):
for minor misconduct like underage drinking revealed
during an assault. Report the lesson chapter.
If you feel confident in your answers in the pretest, skip
this episode and move on to the next episode where the questions
will be a little harder. If you want to learn more, let's
dive into the lesson chapter. We will ask the question again,

(02:59):
give you the answer, and then explain why that is the correct
answer and what it actually means for you.
The soldier Question 17. What does POSH stand for?
Prevention of sexual harassment Question 18.
What does victim centered mean in SHARP?

(03:19):
It focuses on supporting victim recovery with trauma informed
care, minimizing secondary victimization and ensuring
safety. A victim centered approach in
SHARP means every action taken after a report of sexual
harassment or assault is focusedon the well-being, safety and
emotional recovery of the victim.
It emphasizes trauma informed care, meaning those responding

(03:42):
are trained to recognize how trauma effects behavior and
communication so they avoid re traumatizing the victim during
the process. This approach reduces secondary
victimization when victims feel blamed, disbelieved, or
mistreated by the system. A good way to remember this is
the phrase safety, support and sensitivity, the three pillars

(04:03):
that guide all actions in a victim centered process.
Question 19. What rights do SHARP victims
have to be treated with dignity, receive medical care,
confidentiality, be informed of case progress and request
transfers or protective orders? Victims of sexual harassment or

(04:24):
assault have clearly defined rights under SHARP policy to
ensure they are respected, supported, and protected.
These rights include being treated with dignity and respect
at all times, receiving medical care and counseling without
delay, maintaining confidentiality to the fullest
extent possible, staying informed about the progress and
outcome of their case, and beingable to request protective

(04:46):
orders or transfers if they feelunsafe.
These rights reflect the Army's commitment to putting the
victims needs and healing first.Question 20.
What is the role of the SARC andVA?
They provide advocacy, help victims access services, explain
reporting options, and support victims throughout the process.

(05:08):
The Sexual Assault Response Coordinator, SARC and Victim
Advocates VAS are the key support figures in the SHARP
program. Their primary role is to
advocate for the victim from themoment of the report through the
entire process. They help victims access
medical, legal, and emotional support services, explain the

(05:29):
difference between restricted and unrestricted reporting, and
ensure the victim understands their rights and options.
The SARC leads the overall coordination of response
efforts, while V As provide direct, ongoing support.
Think of them as the victim's guide and guardian, making sure
they're never alone through the system.
Question 21. Can DA civilians use SHARP

(05:52):
services? Yes.
They may file a report and receive advocacy, but not
expedited transfers or legal services unless otherwise
authorized. Yes, Department of the Army DA
civilians are eligible to reportsexual harassment or assault and
to receive advocacy services through SHARP.

(06:13):
However, there are some limitations.
They cannot request expedited transfers and legal services may
not always be available unless authorized by regulation or
policy. The key take away is that while
SHARP does extend support to DA civilians, it's not always
identical to what uniformed soldiers receive.
Question 22. Are commanders authorized to

(06:36):
conduct internal inquiries or investigations of sexual
assaults upon receiving a report?
No, No, once a sexual assault isreported, commanders are not
permitted to launch their own internal inquiries or
investigations. Instead, they must immediately
notify the appropriate law enforcement and sharp personnel.

(06:58):
This policy prevents untrained or biased handling of sensitive
cases and ensures the integrity of the investigation.
It protects the rights of the victim and the accused while
maintaining transparency and professionalism.
The principle is don't investigate, activate the
system. Question 23.

(07:19):
What is the Catch? A serial offender Catch program
ADOD tool allowing victims to anonymously submit suspect info
to identify repeat offenders. The CATCH Program is a
Department of Defense initiativethat allows victims of sexual
assault who filed A restricted report to anonymously provide
information about the offender. This data is entered into a

(07:41):
database and if there are matches with other cases, the
victim is notified and offered the chance to convert their
report to unrestricted. The goal is to identify repeat
offenders who might otherwise avoid accountability.
A memory tip Catch connects clues, catches criminals.
Question 24. What is the Safe to report

(08:03):
Policy? Protects victims from punishment
for minor misconduct like underage drinking revealed
during an assault report. The Safe to Report policy
ensures that victims who come forward about a sexual assault
are not punished for minor, unrelated infractions like
underage drinking, fraternization, or curfew
violations that may have occurred.

(08:25):
At the same time, the goal is toremove the fear of disciplinary
action, which might discourage someone from reporting.
Commanders retain discretion, but the policy encourages
prioritizing Victim Support overminor rule breaking.
Remember it this way. Report without fear.
Recovery comes first. The retest chapter Now that we

(08:48):
have learned each topic, let's go over our answers in this
retest chapter to make sure you got it.
