(00:12):
I'm Steven. And I'm Mike.
And this is the Bowie. Breakdown.

(00:38):
We're two brothers with the ridiculous goal of golfing every
golf course in the state of Wisconsin.
All while trying to manage our schedules, not disappoint our Co
workers too much, trying to be good dads and doing our best to
overcome our own terrible golf. Speaking of being good dads, how
was your Father's Day? It was nice and rainy, cold.

(01:03):
He. Did a little camping.
Did a little camping up in northern Wisconsin up there in
Door County and it was 55° and raining basically the whole
time. That sounds great.
So like a great camping experience.
Oh. Yeah, that's just how I like it.
I just shared this YouTube shortvideo of this woman trying to

(01:26):
sleep while camping and it's just a time lapse of various
things waking her up. The 1st it's the it's the the
mosquitoes, then it's the partying next door, then it's
the kid crying. I'll have to say there was no
mosquitoes, they were all icicles.
We did get woken up on Saturday night 'cause we had left the

(01:51):
garbage bag tied to the side of our camera and woke up to look
out the window. There's a little raccoon just
hanging out there. Years ago my my wife and I were
camping at Devil's Lake State Park actually, and in the middle
of the night we woke up to rustling going on inside of our
tent and I thought I was going to be smart and just bring some

(02:13):
of the food stuff that we had left.
It was late. I put it inside our tent and
hear a raccoon. I look over it's paw was
sticking through the side of thetent and it was feeling up a bag
of marshmallows. It could smell it.
Yeah, yeah. So.
Tell us about yours. You had a big surprise plan from

(02:35):
your wife. Yeah, so you guys might remember
last week, my daughter knew whatwas going on.
She was our. She was our guest on the pod and
it was, it was great. So my wife actually had booked
tee times for me at University Rich in Verona, WI, West side of

(02:56):
Madison. So I got out there very early in
the morning because they have a nice practice facility and we'll
do a review on it a later time. So I won't go into too much
detail, but the course is the course is beautiful.
It is it is a challenging course.
My golf was trash. I'm sure you saw you saw me

(03:19):
playing Nat birdies in real time.
But yeah, news flash, if you geta case of the lefts with your
driver, that is not the course for you.
No, no, no, interesting. But I did play with three other
guys that were good guys to playwith.
And it's you don't want to play with somebody who's who takes

(03:41):
things too seriously and just judge you every time you're
going because I, I feel like I'ma pretty average decent golfer.
You know, I don't generally feelintimidated, but one of the guys
I played with was a little intimidating to play with.
He was very good and played way further back than the rest of us

(04:02):
mere mortals and pretty much still out.
Drove us all, but it was fun andthen we did some boating in the
afternoon. Very nice.
This year, the boat did not start on fire.
That's that's always, that's always the hope.
That's the story for another day.
Yeah. But yeah, so it was a good

(04:23):
Father's Day. I was able to catch a little bit
of the US Men's Open and watchedthe frustration and anger of
some of those guys and. It's astounding to go and watch
professional golfers shoot a score that I have seen on my

(04:45):
scorecard before. What was the highest score
there? I, I I don't remember.
I'm not sure, but I, well, we'll, we'll investigate this.
But what I will say is it's interesting to see different
golf personalities when they're under pressure.
And I know you're a big fan of Rory McIlroy.

(05:07):
Every single time that I watch AA tournament within him with
him in it. So he's he's fine as long as
he's winning, sure. Other than that, he is the
biggest baby I've ever seen in my entire life.
And then then hit all of his press conferences and everything
else and then just him just being a huge crybaby about
everything. Plus 35 by the way, was the

(05:29):
highest. That's probably over 2.
Over, Yeah, 'cause the first round score of 86.
George doing duang mini, duang mini.
I don't know if I saw that round, but yeah, shot.
I'm sure they probably didn't show show it too much.
It they're always going to show which is 16 over.

(05:51):
So they either show the atrocious holes for some of its
cards, like a 12, which I think was last week.
The French golfer, I don't remember his name on the top of
my head, but he had a 12 on that.
Yeah, he. Went in the water like 3.
Times, right? And then people are like, he's
like the rest of us. And I'm like, yes and no.

(06:13):
And yeah, that's probably the only 12 he's going to get on a
score called all year, right? But going back to Rory, he just
has such an unlikable personality.
He he's up there on the mikes when he gets it, when he does go
show up for his interviews and and he's just got such a like,
he acts like he is the king of golf and it's like you're not.

(06:36):
I'd much prefer Scotty, who's like, he's just a likable guy.
Yeah, he's so much more down to.Earth And I feel like Rory's
just such a baby and I hate watching him.
And it's like when he wins, he'slike, Oh yeah, I'm the best
ever. And then when he loses, he's
just out there throwing clubs. It's like I I have shot some
terrible rounds and I've maybe thrown in my life 3 clubs.

(07:00):
He threw three in one day. Ridiculous.
He also hit the team marker. Yeah, he broke the team marker
and. Then he goes up and he's like, I
feel like I've earned the respect.
I I should be earned to be respected more by the It's like,
shut up. Well, I, I it mixed down Roy
because I always did admire him as a golfer.
He's a phenomenal golfer, phenomenal driver of the golf

(07:23):
ball and is known for that. In his younger days.
It's got to be hard. You know, he was on TV for golf
when he was like a little tiny kid.
To grow up in that environment. I don't know what I would be
like. But yeah, he wasn't, he wasn't
representing well over the US Open.
He's been in the news for not, you know, talking after a a

(07:46):
round that doesn't go well, and he's had.
Some you know what this reminds me.
Of the mental. The last year's U.S.
Open when he went and got in hiscar and.
Left and left. After Bryson beat him.
That he was not happy about thatsituation.
Do you think it's because he wasupset he didn't get the money?
I think it's he's upset that he thinks that.

(08:07):
I I think he was probably more upset because Bryson's from Liv.
It it could be, it could be. I mean obviously he was very pro
PGA and stood his ground. There were other golfers that
were anti live until they were offered.
A big person decided suddenly. They were like he, he acts like

(08:27):
everybody owes them because he stayed.
I also think he he has a lot of influence over the game.
I don't think he has as much. I personally don't think he has
as much influence as he thinks he does.
And like, somebody like Tiger, who doesn't even really play
anymore, has so much more influence.
And he thinks I feel like he's gotten worse over the years
because he feels like he should be taking into that Tiger role.

(08:50):
Have you ever seen the movie movie Lightning McQueen?
Yeah. So you have The King, which was
Tiger Woods. OK.
Then you have Rory McIlroy, who's Chick Hicks and he's
always second guy. Then he thinks he's oh, Tiger's
going to be done. It's going to be finally my
turn. Lo and behold, here comes
Scotty. It and it it could.
Be and then he just becomes angry.

(09:11):
I think he also, when I say he'sgot an influence over the game,
I'm talking specifically in the PGA.
Like you've got Jay Monahan and the rest of the crews that are,
you know, in the upper echelon of the PGA.
And I think that Rory feels likehe has the seat at that table.
I don't think he commands as much on the popular side of the
house like with just regular everyday golfers, other than the

(09:33):
fact that the guy can drive the ball like nobody's business.
And that's really impressive, especially since he's, you know,
he's a short dude. Yeah, I think I'm just going to
think of him now as Chick X. I think that's fair.
So if you continue that, so is Scotty then Lightning McQueen?
Yeah, obviously. Oh, OK, He's he's the rookie

(09:53):
he's. And who would have seen this
coming? You know, he's, he burst onto
the scene. I, I kind of feel like somebody,
there's got to be a character there for Robert McIntyre where
you know, he's right behind JJ Spawn at the US Open waiting to
see if he's going to make it into a playoff or not.
Because he played phenomenal golf.

(10:14):
And I remember seeing a thing that it was, he would be the
first Scots to win AUS Open for years and years and years.
I don't remember what the numberwas, but they were showing him
in the clubhouse watching JJ Spawn make that final putt and
he makes the putt and Robert Mcintyre's just, he's super

(10:35):
excited and impressed for the fact that JJ sponsored wandering
just open and drinking that 20 plus foot pot and I feel.
Like 60 wasn't. It I don't remember how far he
was like he was a long 1 foot well he that just shows good
sportsman. Yeah, yeah, you're like and.
If it was Rory that was in the clubhouse, he would have already
went to his. Car.
He would have left the guy to his car.

(10:57):
Well, what if Rory's listening to this podcast right now?
Is there anything you want to say to him?
I would just tell him grow up. It it doesn't help him.
Like, I don't know, like if he wants to be this person, this
face of the PGA, you've got to be likable.
Yeah. And if you're not likable, that
it doesn't matter if you're winning or losing because like
people can be oppressed by your golf game and be like, that guy

(11:18):
seems like a jerk, like, I don'tknow.
Yeah, no, that's fair. I, you know, it was Father's
Day, it was the US Open on JJ spawns, got 2 little kids and it
was, it was kind of fun to see them there as he's winning.
Well, did you have, Oh yeah, hispresser about how he was up at
3:00 in the morning going to theCVS to get medicine for his kid?

(11:40):
I mean, that's a, that's a guy that you can get behind and
like. Yeah, he's like I, I my
daughter's throwing up. Yeah, I got to go to CVS and get
medicines and then go out and stole.
Yeah. Do you imagine going on no
sleep? Well, he said.
He said that he thought that wasthe reason why that he started
off a little bit rough just because.
So I think he started off BoogieBoogie.

(12:00):
Yeah, he had a rough start. And in some ways that takes the
pressure off you. Like you're like, oh, I got it.
I just got to go hard after thisand chase it.
But look at the guys. I mean, his kids up, throwing up
at night. He's got to go to the CVS.
He wins Scotty Scheffler, gets arrested, goes to jail, gets
released, comes back out, went to the Masters.

(12:21):
Did you see that that wasn't theMasters?
He lost the tournament. I don't remember I.
Don't remember. I don't think it was U.S.
Open. I think it was the PGA
Championship. He got arrested.
But then when Scotty won the PGAChampionship this past year, he
like, did you see the pictures of him holding his kid?
His kids got like poop all the. Way up his back.

(12:42):
I did see that this guy is so likeable.
And then he's still just walkingaround with him.
Yeah. Yeah.
Because what are you going to do?
I mean, he's just being a dad. His wife's.
Like I think he's got poop. On his back, he's like he's.
Like, yeah, it's fine. Yeah, you are right, Right.
It was the PGA Championship. He's just won so many things I
forget. Yeah, he's Lightning McQueen.

(13:02):
Well, I, I, I enjoyed seeing thedisplay of fatherhood, but then
I was also thinking like, if this is your full time job and
your kids are watching you after, at golf tournament after
golf tournament, it's kind of get old for them like old hat.
And then if you are not that great and you're not sure if

(13:23):
you're going to make the cut, would you even bring your family
with you every time? I'm guessing a lot of those guys
that are not that good, probablythey probably, I'm sure that
they probably just fly them and even maybe the guys that are
winning, they probably just fly their kids and and their
families and maybe for the last two days or the last day.
If they make the cut. Yeah, 'cause it's not.
It's not cheap to travel. No, I I would assume that most
of those guys don't bring in their families until after they

(13:44):
make the cut and especially if they're at the the the top.
Like I'm sure Rory didn't fly his family in.
That's because he hasn't decidedif they're going to get divorced
or not. Yeah.
Oh yeah, that's true. But yes, I I would imagine it is
expensive. And you know what else is
expensive? When you're booking a tee time

(14:06):
and you pay for a cart and then you have to pay.
You have to pay for a ride along.
For a ride along or you or two golfers.
All right, two golfers. You're booking a cart, you're
playing together and you have toplay pay 2 cart fees.
So I asked even how is his golf was this weekend and we're going
to talk about the course that hewas able to play out while

(14:28):
camping and he took his daughteralong with as a ride along and
they charged him for a ride along.
Yeah. 15 bucks for her to come sit in the cart with me and do
nothing. And he he was upset and
frustrated about this. So I I'm mixed on this and
here's here's why. There is a fixed cost to a golf

(14:49):
cart, upkeep, maintenance, etcetera.
If they only charge one cart fee, that cart fee is going to
be more expensive. If they charge a cart fee per
golfer, most of the time you're not going to be paying for the
person sitting next to you unless you're always taking, you
know, your wife or your kid. That's not golfing.

(15:11):
Here's the thing. So it's cheaper in the long.
If you're paying so if if I would went by myself and I would
have paid, I paid for my car fee, I paid for the the round
I'm paying that car is already being paid to used.
Right. Having someone sit beside me,
it's getting the same use, The exact same use.

(15:34):
Sure. Depends on who?
Who? If that's what I.
Like to like a 500? Pounds, if you get some big
yeah, it could, I guess maybe work the card a little bit
harder. But you're you, you know, I feel
like that that that could be oneof the negatives I feel like
about golf is simply just the cost of some of this, like you

(15:59):
can go out there and you can play a cheap round and.
Walk. And you can walk, but when
you're trying to get your kids out there, I feel like even if
the golf courses are going to charge a cart fee to bring your
spouse or whatever along, you shouldn't be charging people to
bring their kids. And it's 15 bucks.

(16:19):
You know, it is what it is. It's just annoying when you've
already paid to rent the car. You got to pay again or else if
you're too people, you're going out to play and then you go and
you pay to rent. You should have to pay to rent a
cart, whether or not that's one person that pays or if you are
going to be. So if they're going to charge
$20 to rent a cart, it shouldn'tbe $40 just because two people
are sitting in there. Well, I think on that note,

(16:44):
let's talk a little bit about the course that you played,
because there was some reviews that address some of this and
and that is can you bring a non playing person up with you to
around? Yeah, and I and I also feel like
it depends for that. It depends on when you're going
to go play. So when I went and booked my tea
time, all the morning tea times were booked and it was raining.

(17:10):
So I didn't want to get up particularly early and go out
and play in 40° weather in the rain.
So I booked a 4:30 tee time in the afternoon.
There was nobody on the T. So I guess I really can't
complain too much after I tell you what I did.
But I, I, so I booked a 4:30 teetime.
The TC was pretty full up until then and then it was pretty open
after that. So I thought, you know, if I can

(17:32):
book this tee time, I can get out there, I can get and I can
play pretty quickly because I'm playing by myself.
So I actually went on to golfnow.com and they had a
special I paid $31.00 with the card.
Jeez, that's that's a win for dynamic pricing right there.
That is a win for dynamic pricing.

(17:52):
So it was it, it was they had a special for that tee time.
There was nothing else around. I'm like all right, clicked, I
got it $31.00. So technically I paid $46.
Because you had a a ride along. Because I paid for the ride
along. Yeah.
So that is incredibly cheap for that course.
That's awesome. That's less so even with the
write on fee that is less than what they charge for tee time.

(18:12):
I think it's like $86. Right.
That I think that's closer to what I paid when I was out
there. Yeah.
So Peninsula State Park Golf Course is where you played and I
played there. I've played there a couple times
because our family for the past few years has actually gone up
and camped either in Peninsula State Park right in the

(18:34):
campground there or in campgrounds close by.
And a few years back I was just looking to see, can I find out a
decent course that's up there toplay.
He stumbled across this one was was reading some reviews and,
and it looked beautiful. So we're going to talk a little
bit about Peninsula State Park Golf Course, but the first thing

(18:55):
I did was I, I pulled up Google and started looking at some of
the reviews and here's a here's a couple of them.
And that only gave it one star and you tell me if it if it
resonates with you. So this guy came to play with my
family on a fall Monday, had three golfers and hope to have
the wives ride along and enjoy aday out with us.

(19:16):
The T sheet was completely open.Arrived and check in with the
starter. The guy was one of the rudest
I've ever encountered and said we could take 3 carts with four
golfers plus a rider, but God forbid he'd lose his job at 3
carts with three golfers and three riders out.
I think this is kind of a classic scenario where, you

(19:37):
know, let's say, let's say you and IA couple other guys, we
want to go out, our wives want to spend some time with us.
Yeah, and hang out. But they're not golfing, they're
just in the cart with you. Now I know golf carts, golf
courses have limited carts. You know, they might only have
144 carts or something to that effect.
So it may not be feasible for everybody to take a + 1 and

(19:59):
you've got all these carts out there.
But I I think that is a barrier to entry when you're not able to
take that ride along with and have it be somewhat normal.
And, and, and obviously we don'tknow the situation of, of this
particular golfer. If, if the T sheets open, if

(20:19):
it's on a Monday right in the fall, there's nobody out there.
He's correct. It doesn't matter if you're
going 3, especially when you're paying the extra money to take a
ride along the, the golf cart. The golf course is going to make
an extra $45.00 because they took those ride alongs compared
to if they had not. Could you imagine though if they
were all hacks and you were behind them and you look well,

(20:40):
if the T there's there's. Like but.
Yeah, 8G carts out of the fairway.
But if there's three carts, you're only having three people
play. Sure, sure.
There's no like, I feel like they, they might have rules, but
at at some point you have to kind of like.
You got to use some common. Sense you got to use common
sense. So I, I would think that in this

(21:02):
case, just let him go out, let him take, you know, 'cause my
wife, she enjoys sometimes be able to go out.
I don't she, I don't know if shereally likes playing 18.
No, Yeah. But if I'm going right, unless,
unless it's like this where there's a open T sheet you can
get through. I I played in 2 1/2 hours.
Really. Yeah.

(21:22):
OK, That's pretty easy. Yeah.
Cruising. And I didn't.
Yeah. So she wouldn't mind that.
But for you're going out to playnine holes, you take your spouse
along like Laura likes to read. She'll sit on the cart and read
a book with me. I play golf.
It's a great time. Yeah, I took my daughter.
She likes to go along and. And she hung in there for 18

(21:44):
holes. She hung in there for 18 holes.
She had a blast. Yeah, which is pretty
impressive. Well, I in looking through the
reviews and and these are all you know the ones I'm looking at
right now are less than a year, but one was I had a great time
with my family until the the rude course Ranger came and
ruined it. Another one that said the the

(22:07):
Marshall was circling their family telling him they were 10
minutes behind. Another one was the golf pro
watch just on the tee box. It was power trip.
And then here's one that I saw that was that was kind of fun.
Beautiful course. It's a shame the starter
completely ruined my experience and calls the Marshall to Heckle
us at the 1st hole. No one is going to play well

(22:29):
their first hole while being stalked and yelled at like whoa.
So that was not my experience atPeninsula.
I also did not have that experience as well.
So I guess give me just kind of a high level overview of what
what your first impressions werewhen you got to the course.

(22:51):
Yeah, so we got there. The course was still busy at the
time when we got there, but a lot of people were finishing up.
So we get to the course, I go in, I pay the extra $15.00 to my
daughter right along. Got some snacks?
The The starter told us, hey, I was going to pair you guys up

(23:11):
with another group. They did not show up, so you
guys can go out on your own. So we go out to the first tee.
He had just sent out a foursome in front of us.
So we waited until they had cleared, teed off, played the
first hole when I played the 2ndhole and then on the 3rd hole

(23:34):
they're like hey, you guys can cut in front of us.
We went, continued playing. We passed one other person,
there was a dad and his kid out there playing on hole 7.
And then after that we ran into nobody and.
You were clear, which how great is it when you go up to the
starter thinking you're going tobe paired with somebody,
especially you're hoping that the other people don't show up.

(23:55):
Especially when they when they because when I had booked the
tee time, there was nobody else at that specific time.
So they must have just maybe they called and they they did.
I don't know what happened but. They knew you were coming, and
they're like, yeah. Well, just, and it's also nice
for a little bit when you're playing and the people like I've
played before where I've been playing as a as a single and
people just won't let you pass. Yeah, that's frustrating.

(24:16):
So it was nice that I I waited on two shots, yeah, the whole
day. So that was nice.
You just cruised. I remember I actually had
another course up in in the DoorCounty area.
I came up to a family. It was for some mom, dad, two
kids and I sat behind them for probably four holes while they

(24:38):
slowly hacked their way down thecourse.
So frustrating. But I finally caught up to him
on one of the tee boxes and I I came around the corner and they
were all there on the tee box and the dad turned around and
looked at me. He's like, I'm so sorry we're
going so slow, we're pretty new to this and it dawned on me he
had no idea. That he could let someone.

(24:59):
That he could let somebody play through like that was etiquette.
So I'm like, oh, that's no problem.
My kids were new. I'm like, would you mind if I
play through this hole with you?And then I'll jump in front?
He's like, oh, yeah, for sure. Go for it, man.
And I'm here. I was.
Angry. And then I realized he just
doesn't know. He doesn't know.
He's probably feeling stressed because I'm waiting behind him
the whole time. Do you think it's more stressful

(25:20):
to be to be the person that's waiting behind or the person you
have to go up in tea in front ofeverybody?
Or is it more stressful to have somebody on your butt?
I have had both experiences and I've also had the experience for
someone let you play through andthen you've got to go tee up in

(25:42):
front of them and I've done it where I have then hit a
phenomenal shot and then they'relike, oh man, that's awesome,
that's amazing. And you know you, I did it on a
par three once and I was like 4 foot.
I think I missed my birdie butt. And then I've also had it where
you go up and you completely shake it.

(26:03):
I had both experiences playing through.
Right at Peninsula State Park. At Peninsula State Park.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. So the so I they have a practice
facility. They have a six hole par 3
course which I did not play. And they also have a driving
range which I did not go to because it was raining.
OK, sure. Yeah, Yep, yeah.
Driving range is a decent layout, good practice facility.

(26:25):
I think they do. They do a lot of like junior PGA
stuff at the course. The six hole par three courses
set up well, you can see it right when you're driving by.
I don't remember what the main road is that runs out in front
of Peninsula State Park, but thegolf course itself is in the
State Park and that whole area is.

(26:47):
Beautiful. It's gorgeous.
It is absolutely beautiful. And if you look at pictures of
the course online, I mean, they're just breathtaking
pictures and there's elevation. You can see Lake, MI when you're
up there it it's really beautiful.
Yeah, it is very. Beautiful, but.
But I'm really and we'll have some pictures from my round on

(27:08):
on the socials before this episode airs.
Yes, yes. So what I'm really interested
in, Steven, is how do you, how did you play?
Because we currently have a match now I have my scorecard in
front of me, which you do not know.
I at least I don't think you know what my original score was.

(27:28):
You've got your scorecard, whichyou have you you made sure you
didn't post to 18 birdies, so I.Couldn't see post to 18 birdies
so I kept it. I kept it.
You can hide your score as you're playing, so I did that.
So we need to cue the scorecard.Battle music.
Yep. And see how we went.
So you played first? I think you've got honors.

(27:49):
Yeah, so. All #1.
So before we do this, I'm just going to let you know my
daughter also kept her own scorewithout golfing and she beat us
both. She she she only put down pars,
birdies and a hole in one without go, without touching a
golf course, golf ball, Golf Club.
So that's pretty phenomenal. Yeah, I think so.

(28:10):
Hole one, it was net par. Oh hole 1 I had a net birdie.
Hole 2 net par. Hole 2 I wasn't, I was a boat.
Hole 3. So we're back to eat.
Yep, we're back to eat even hole3 on that par.
I was a bogey. So I'm you're one up hole 4 net

(28:32):
par. I was par.
So I'm still up one. You're up one.
Yeah. Five.
Yeah. Net par.
I was also in that par. So I'm still one up hole 6 net
par. This one was rough for me.
That was A7. I that was a 7.

(28:54):
So you're 7, so I'm up four or two par 5.
So you were so OK, so I was. So I was two over.
That was a bogey for me. OK, so then I got a so I'm up
two. You're up two.
Whole 7 was a birdie. That birdie, that was a par.

(29:17):
All right, Hole 8. So we wanted to talk about hole
8, so. So let me just tell you hole
hole 4. Playing fit.
Great. Hole 4 was the no.
Hole 3 was the 1st hole that I passed somebody and it was a
foursome and they let me play through and I went up and just I

(29:38):
didn't like hit the worst shot, but it was like 130 yards.
That one, that one's tough because you've got the trees on
the left side that kind of come into the fairway.
It's not. It's kind of straight.
It is. It is straight.
But you've got you've got trouble both sides.
You can get into some rough. And then hole 7 was I got ran up

(30:00):
into this father and son. They're like, hey, you go ahead.
I was like, Are you sure? Because there's people behind me
and there was a group in front of me over on hole 8 and
they're, I'm like, Are you sure?I can?
And they're like, Yep, Yep. They're like, you're probably
better than us anyway. So I'm like, I'm probably not.
And I go up there. And so it's a, it's a shorter
par, it's like 327 yards. It's a shorter par four.

(30:23):
And there's a sand bunker right in front of the green and I
smoke to drive and I, and I'm right even with that sand bunker
there. And they're like, Oh my gosh,
that's so awesome. So I went up, chipped it up real
close. And made a.
And that birdie, birdie. So I made a par.
Yeah, yeah. All right.
So on that hole, that one short enough that last time when I

(30:47):
played it, I did not use my driver OK.
And at the time I just had my 4 hybrid.
Your favorite club with a. Bag and I topped it and I'm not
surprised. And it went about 80 yards.
Very nice. All right, so.
You're up 3. I'm up 3 all right.
Hole 8 is a very short par 3 andit is straight down.

(31:10):
It is a cool. Hole.
It's a very cool hole, very niceviews and I was that birdie
there. So before I tell you my score, I
was actually looking at some history on the course.
And as you're going up that hill, you cross over the road,
you play hole number one, you cross over the road, you go up
the hill and there's like a Stonewall that was built by

(31:30):
hand. Oh, really way back when the
course first started by volunteers.
And so the eighth tee box that'selevated right next to it is
where that Stonewall is. And that was all built by hand,
and the course just celebrated 100 years.
Yeah, you can tell that it's an old, old course just from
playing it. So I I made a double.

(31:53):
Really. Did you go?
Did you go short or? I went short and it it fumble
down into that whole area in front of that green and I
couldn't, there was no finding it in there so.
It's a 70 yard I think is what they have it on there.
And all, all I did was just like1/2 swing with my 60° and I

(32:13):
actually landed right in the front rolled up.
I, I made a par there, but net net birdie.
And then I'm like, all right, so, so after I hit the T-shirt
on the green, I'm like, I'm going to try to go for a hole in
one. And I did the same thing.
I chunked one right into that. But anyways, my my original ball
was on that birdie so I'm up. Four.

(32:35):
No one. Oh, yeah.
Match what you're saying? Yeah, Yeah, that was really
unfortunate. For me.
All right. So that would still be me up.
And then the next hole, hole 9, it's kind of a dog leg goes
left. Yeah, but it's not super far
left. And there's these two tall pine

(32:56):
trees that are basically right at the green.
And I was feeling pretty confident with my driver.
I'm going to go right over thosepine trees.
Sure enough, I smoked to drive right over those pine trees.
Left myself with like 70 yards net par.
Really. Yep, I also had net.
No, I birdied that hole. OK, nice.

(33:16):
So you are up or so now I'm up 3.
So I and I take the tea box. And you take the tea box.
Takes the tea box. Back so 9 is is ranked as one of
my favorite holes. I loved that hole, but that one
it. Sounds like because you made a
bird. That one also has a bell on it
if I. It does have a bell.
Yeah, yeah. Which we talked about this

(33:38):
before, but I feel like there's there's something melodious.
Yeah, I didn't get to ring any bells.
I brought my daughter along and she read all of the ringing.
Which is appropriate? All right, so hole #10 I had to
stop in at the clubhouse to get some snacks.
Came back out net part. I also have net part.
Really. You have a little push on that,

(34:00):
right? That one was a good net par for
me actually. So I drove my ball into the
right. So first of all, that I I didn't
have a great score on that hole, but the views from there are
incredible. You can see the whole lake.
So you have the lake on the right hand side and then you got
a lot of trees on the right. I I hit my drive off and to the

(34:22):
right had to take a drop. So I was.
I'm still happy with the net part there.
Yeah, that's phenomenal. So I hit mine left and it's a
dog like left. And it goes way back uphill.
And it goes way back uphill. I hit some trees and it actually
kicked it out further past wherethe trees bump out.
Oh yeah, nice. I'd still did not hit the green

(34:43):
on that one because I was, I didn't quite get back out to the
fairway. It was a little, it was tough,
but so good. All right, so 3 where you're
still up 3 hole #11. You were in that par there.
I was in whole number 11. OK.
I was, yes, net par, yeah, wholenumber 11.
I was a net bogey. All right.

(35:05):
I was a net par. Really.
Yep. So that takes you up to. 4 up to
four and I have the tea box back.
You get the tea box. All right #12 I was a net par.
I was a net bird. OK, so I'm arresting 1 back,
you're up 3 and we're running out of holes.

(35:26):
Yep, hole #13 I was a net double.
Hole #13 I was a net par. You're having like the round of
your life. Not really, but.
All right, so you're back to four up with 4 to play.

(35:50):
All right hole number, which hole was that?
That was 13. Hole #14 I was in that bogey.
I was in that par. Oh, actually Nope.
Net. Par OK, I.
Looked at the wrong. Hole.
So that one we pushed. Yep.
Hole number Europe. So hole #15 birdie.

(36:12):
Hole #15 was a net bogey for me.I'm sorry, I was a par.
Yeah. So that one is another elevated
T box shooting on to a green with the the woods come right up
close to the backside of there and it's 170 some yard par 3 and

(36:37):
I hit pitching wedge over the back of the green.
Yeah, hit into a tree and it kicked it back, but it kicked
that left and with left me like probably 50 yard chip shop which
I flubbed and then yeah. Which thankfully, because that

(36:58):
now does that put us your two up.
Yeah. OK.
All right. Two up hole 16 I was a par.
I have my holes wrong. Hole #17 is the one that.
OK, Yeah. Hole #15 I was in that par.
Hole #15 so we were pushed on that one.

(37:20):
So you're still 3. Hole #16 I was a net par.
I was also in that par, so we pushed on that one.
Too hole #17 spoiler alert, that's the one that I was in
that bog. I was also a net bog.
That is the par three that that is the par 3 and I, I shot A5 on
that. OK I also made a 5 as well on

(37:42):
that boat. So you've got the tea box and.
You're 3 on 18. That was a net bird.
Really. Yep.
That was a net par for me. So you win by four?
Yeah. Well done.

(38:04):
I, I didn't have anything good, but I, I, I had nothing that was
killer. So I I only made more than a
double on one hole and that was on 15.
So what was your gross score? My gross score was in 99.
OK. All right.

(38:24):
Yeah, Yeah. That's.
But it was a very my, my biggestproblem was I just wasn't
getting close enough for putts with my approach.
So I felt so as you know, I've been playing horribly.
I went to the range on last Thursday.

(38:46):
I wanted to get out before I went out and played because I've
just been playing so badly and I'm just out there.
I'm working and I, I figured something out in my swing with
the way that I'm setting up to the ball and I think I'm setting
up too far away from the ball. So I went up and I'm setting too
far away. I'm having my hands turn too

(39:07):
much, especially my my right hand is too too far.
It's open I guess too, too weak.So your right, your right hand
is under the club handle is whatyou're saying?
Yeah, yeah. Yeah.
So I move that back over. So I I'm more.
So ever since then I've been, I've been able to hit my driver.

(39:29):
At least it's not killing me, which it's been doing, and I
just feel more confident over the ball in totality, right?
Whether or not I'm actually making good contact, at least
it's not, so I'm not spraying itas much.
Well, you've seen our our play at league lately and we have

(39:49):
been getting decimated. We have the last two weeks.
Last two weeks we finally scoredsome.
Point we scored some point so we're I don't think we'll be in
last place. Well, the great part about being
in last place is you can only improve.
Yeah, yeah. Or you stay in last place you.
Have no expectations. Well, I I'm liking what I'm

(40:13):
seeing with the driver. I'm not liking you beating me on
the scorecard battle. Yeah, that's just what's going
to happen. That's.
Not great, that is not great. So where does that put us over
all? So, well, we never did our
Jefferson. OK, All right.
What? We'll save that.
Yeah, we'll save that scorecard battle for another.

(40:34):
Time we so I as of right now, you beat me on one.
Yes, other than potentially on Jefferson.
Yeah, and that was at WashingtonCounty.
OK, spoiler alert, I played liketrash at Jefferson.
Yeah, well, you, you and I played that one together and you
beat me on OK, I don't remember what.

(40:55):
I remember, did I beat you? I don't remember.
All right, well, let's just say I beat you.
I don't think you did probably, but you can say whatever you
want. All right, so Peninsula State
Park golf course favorite hole. I would say like my favorite

(41:18):
hole was 17. OK.
Yeah, I mean, it was, it's, it'ssuch a pretty hole, you know,
you have and and they did it so like they, they had it
maintained so well for that. And I don't know if that's just
because it was Father's Day weekend, but it was like the

(41:39):
striping on the, on the even on the rough and on the fairways
and everything was just pristine.
Like you look over there and you're like, wow.
And I also really like 10 too. And I did not make a good score
in either of those holes, but ten, you have this great look
over at Lake MI or Green Bay, I guess technically.
And it was just, it was gorgeous.

(42:03):
Yeah, it it's a beautiful courseand it's not a crazy long, I
don't know what tease you playedfrom.
I played from the whites. OK, All right.
Yeah. So they the blue tease is 6300
yards and the whites, the blue, they've got a blue white combo
that you can play from or the whites, which is 58171 yards.

(42:24):
So just a little bit under 5900.So it's a shorter course, but I
feel like there's most of that shortness.
Probably comes from hole 8. Yeah, hole 8.
Hole 8 is very short. It's.
Very short. Yeah.
I would say the par fives aren'tcrazy long.
No, they're reachable, Yeah. I did not reach any.
I actually have a very bad scoring average on par fives
it's. Because you're trying to do the

(42:44):
hero shots. I don't know what it is.
But yeah, I, I think overall thecourse is beautiful.
I my favorite hole and I've played it a couple times.
I've played it out there with mycouple of my kids.
But every time I played, it is almost always been Father's Day
morning. And the first time I played it,
I did it just by myself. I didn't have any of the kiddos.

(43:06):
I got up early. I probably had like maybe 5:50
tee times or 6:00 tee times, butthey were giving away gifts for
the dads that came in. Oh, really?
Yeah. They had like a a golf ball that
they gave away and like a muffinor I, I don't remember exactly
what it was. So I felt like they were
treating me like a kid. And then I went out to the

(43:28):
starter and I was early enough the first year.
Question did he yell at you and did he send the Marshall off to
you on? The 1st hole, no OK, but every
time I've played there I've played extraordinarily well on
the 1st hole, which is great. That is great.
There's a Rd. that if you slice it and when I first asked your
daughter how the round went, shetold me on hold number one dad

(43:54):
almost hit a car. He she said it was a good thing
that there was no car, no cars over there because my dad went
over the road on the first shot, which is very true.
So I had to drop the 1st hole. Yeah, yeah.
Well, thankfully I did not. I played very well and I

(44:15):
remember the starter being very friendly.
Yeah, that's, that's like I said, the starter was was nice
to me as well. And the course was in really
good shape. And like I said, it's been, it
had been raining the the whole weekend while we were up there.
It rained while we were playing and it was colder.
It was, I think it was 52° when I teed off.

(44:39):
But the course was in great shape.
The Greens were they were still rolling at a decent speed.
I feel like they did a fantasticjob of maintaining the course.
Yeah, and the clubhouse, the facility, when you first get
there, it's it's, it's tucked inand the clubhouse itself has
some great views because when you're standing up there, you
can look down and and see hole #9 coming in, you can see the

(45:04):
10th tee box, which is kind of down below the clubhouse.
And then you can look out over the harbour that's there.
It it's beautiful. And they've got a full
restaurant bar. I've only ever had snacks there.
I didn't, I didn't didn't have time to get anything to eat when
I was there. But it, it kind of has that.
I don't know when the clubhouse was built but I probably like

(45:27):
19. It's definitely an old clubhouse
from the outside it looks like. 70s.
Like almost like a log cabin type feel to it, yeah.
It fits well with the whole, with the whole peninsula.
State Park and that whole area. But you're right there over by
Egg Harbor. There's a lot of stuff to do in
that area as well, Like you weresaying, like there's all the
camping. There's like Michigan there.

(45:47):
Yeah, yeah. And if you just if you literally
go a little bit further north, you've got Ephraim, that's right
up there. There's a bunch of different
food options. I mean, it's a cool destination
if you're if you're in Door County and you want to
experience what I would considera pretty phenomenal golf course

(46:07):
at that price point. It's it's.
Especially 31 dollars, Yeah, if you can get it on a Golf Now
deal. I mean, that was, that was
pretty awesome. So do you have a worst hole?
I'd probably have to say it was 16.

(46:32):
So 16 is a par 5. It's a a little bit of a dog
like right, but not really. It's mostly like, but they so
the, the fairway I feel like is guarded on the right hand side.
So I actually hit a great tee shot and I but and I was, I, I
got it a little bit to the right.
So the trees come out into the fairway and I hit the the tree

(46:56):
and like I said before, I don't like to be punished for a bad
shot because it was a great drive.
It just hit into a tree and thenit bounced back.
Then you have to chip out. That was probably like my least
favorite. But in reality, the whole I feel
like the whole golf course is very nice and it's hard to find
a bad hole that you don't like. Yeah, I would say probably my

(47:17):
least favorite if I were to haveto rate 1, I felt like hole
number 5 was a little boring. It was kind of wide out there.
It wasn't overly, it wasn't overly interesting, interesting
to look at. And then that's followed by a, a
long par five with a hole 6. And that one, I felt like the

(47:39):
finish of that where you got the, the, the green is guarded
by two bunkers and it kind of just just off.
That's interesting when you're standing up on the tee box and
you're you're driving, it kind of looks like a big field.
It wasn't overly interesting to look at.
And I also didn't do very well. I actually have seen a couple

(48:03):
folks talk about hole #17 I as being not great, but I liked it.
I don't mind a challenging hole where you have to think about
what club. And the, the, the green there,
it's sloped very heavily from the back to the front.
And when I was playing that the,the pen was all the way in the

(48:26):
back. So I actually my my second chip
after I duffed my first one, I felt like I'd made a good chip,
but I just caught the edge of that and it rolled all the way
down to the front of the front of the green.
And then I made to be able to make a double bogey on that
hole. I actually lagged it up to like
3 foot from the front of the green all the way to the back.

(48:49):
And I was like, I was pretty psyched about that.
Yeah. Well, overall, I think that the
course is well maintained. The history of the course, like
we said, is it's over 100 years old.
And you can tell when you play it.
Yeah, but I think there's definitely a lot of people that
care about that course. I I would agree.
And every time I've played has always been early morning.

(49:10):
In fact, we would camp up there and I would get up and make
early morning tee times. I'd get out, I'd get back and
I'd be done in like two, 2 1/2 hours.
And I'd be back to the campsite before most of my kids were
awake. Yeah, which is great, I think.
That that is, yeah, I know to beable to play the course, it's a

(49:31):
very playable course, yeah. And to be able to play it as
fast, like I guess I played it in in probably just around 2 1/2
hours, maybe a little bit less, but.
Yeah. Overall, what would you what
would you give it as a rating? I would say for me, it's it's

(49:54):
it's a definitely a birdie, OK. The views to be able to get
those kind of views at that typeof course at that price point
for $31.00, if you're playing itfor $31.00, you're not going to
play a better course for $31.00,you're not going to.
So for $31.00, that's an eagle. Yeah, I mean, I would the course

(50:16):
itself is probably not an Eagle, especially not at that full
price of $86 I paid $31.00 for. Wait, how much did you pay for
it again? $31.00 Golf Now check it out.
You Might Golf Now has some great, great deals.
Not not a sponsor. Not a sponsor get it could be
golf now but I pay $31.00. I played it in 2 1/2 hours.

(50:40):
I would say for that that's an eagle, but the course in itself
is a is a definitely a birdie from.
Yeah, I'm right there on the birdie score.
I did not get the insider deal on golf.
Now I paid full price, but yeah,100% I would agree.
A birdie course. It's beautiful.
That whole area up there is a fun place to visit.
The views that you're going to get there are phenomenal.

(51:02):
The course itself is is well maintained so.
