Andrea Matthies (00:00):
I'm Andrea Lee
Matthies, writer, photographer,
and Clairvoyant Medium, and thisis the Bold, Brave Woman Project.
This podcast is a living, breathing, unfolding of what it really
means to step into our becoming.
Born from the ashes of a failed YouTubechannel, this weekly podcast brings you
real unfiltered moments of failure, ofbravery, and of deep intuitive knowing,
(00:25):
so that you too can step into who you arebecoming with even more trust and bravery.
Let's dive in.
Welcome back to another episodeof The Bold, brave Woman Project.
I wanna talk a little bit today aboutthe connection between productivity
and boldness, because often the linebetween these two things gets very,
(00:51):
very blurred and we often feel like weneed to hustle and we need to be super
productive in order to really have ourdreams come true and be super bold.
You know, these two energies getreally, really intertwined and it can
be quite hard to separate the two.
If I feel into my own version ofproductivity how that's manifested
(01:16):
in my life over the years, I haven'talways had a great relationship with it.
Growing up, I was surroundedby productive people.
My parents ran multiple smallbusinesses, and my grandparents on
both my mother and my father's sidecame from backgrounds of having to work
really, really hard for what they had.
(01:38):
hustling and pushing and being productiveand tying your value to how much you
got done or how much you achieved wassomething that they very much lived,
and this became embedded in my psychevery, very early on that to have value
and to prove yourself in the world orto even just have the things that you
want, you had to be very productive.
(02:00):
And downtime was not really a thingfor my parents or my grandparents,
purely because they had to keep goingsimply to survive, but also to keep
feeling like, like they were goodparents, to keep feeling like they were
good daughters or good grandparents.
You know, they kept themselves busy.
They kept themselves pushingtowards bigger and bigger goals.
(02:24):
and filling the time and fillingthe space with lots of productive
things and activities and businesses.
that showed what a good human waslike, you know, that showed what a, a
good human, a good member of society, someone that was valuable, someone
that works hard and creates thingswith either their hands or their minds,
(02:45):
and therefore will have a good life
You know?
And this embedded so deep into mypsyche from such a young age That I
too naturally just fell into a lifeof productivity, of always pushing,
always striving, of always being brave.
And I naturally associated boldness andbraveness and going after your dreams
(03:07):
with this energy of hustle, with thisenergy of making sure that I was always
doing and I was always contributingvalue, so that as a bold or a brave
person, I therefore had value in society.
I was therefore worthwhile ofemploying, of working with,
and this is really exhausting.
(03:27):
And also, this is such a trickyspace to fall into because we start
to move into a space where ourvalue is tied to these external
metrics, to these external approval.
If someone sees us being productiveor sees us going after our dreams,
We get their approval, we get theirrecognition, we get societal esteem,
(03:50):
and before we know it, we've falleninto this matrix or this pattern.
Of associating productivity and externalapproval as validation, and it starts to
fuel that need for more and more of that.
And we think that we are being braveand we're being bold, and we're
going after these things being superambitious and super high performing,
(04:11):
but it's actually just a muddled energyof needing this external validation
that's fueling this behavior of ours.
And one of the only ways to reallybreak out of this is to start
deconstructing productivity, when we really strip it all back.
this real need to be productiveis a scarcity energy.
(04:36):
And don't get me wrong, there aretimes where we wanna be purposeful,
where we wanna be driven, But this isa very different energy that's driven
by scarcity, that's driven by this needto feel something or to be something.
And one of the most powerful waysto start to break this cycle and
shift out of these scarcity patterns.
(04:57):
is to learn how to sit andcreate space and spaciousness.
And this can be so challenging, particularly when you are used
to being in that hustle, in thatwheel and that hamster wheel.
You know, sometimes we, we don't evenrealize that even when we're trying to
be mindful or meditative or have goodwellbeing or mental health practices,
(05:20):
we're actually embedding them intoa very productive or structured way,
and it is still fueling this need forexternal validation You know, we can
have these beautiful intentions ofcreating this time and this space to
really just deconstruct and sit withourselves, but we are still doing it.
Within that,
(05:41):
I'm gonna be productive by makingsure I have my wellbeing and my
wellness time inside all of thisother stuff that I'm still gonna do.
Learning how to just really sitand carve out spaciousness in our
minds, in our bodies to allow thisproductivity and this external value
(06:02):
to start really dropping away can beso, so powerful because there is a
big difference between space and time.
I was reading recently about theastrological properties of Saturn,
and in this article it talkedabout how Saturn is one of the
planets that represents structure.
(06:22):
But it also went on to say how timeis one of the biggest constructs
and structures that we havecreated as man in our society.
We measure how much we have achievedin a certain amount of time, and
then we associate value with that.
And that can be really heavy sometimes, particularly if you are in a certain
(06:44):
stage of your life where you'refeeling a little lost or you know
there's a big change coming, butyou're not sure what step to take or
you're trying to access this braveryor this clarity around your purpose
or your mission here on the planet.
It can not only be exhausting, but it can be really defeating,
And so coming back to starting todeconstruct this need to be productive,
(07:08):
In every single present moment oftime, regardless of what the clock
says, regardless of what is expectedor required of you in that moment,
creating that ability to just sit andfeel and sense, all of a sudden you'll
start to feel less of a need to beproductive, to push to hustle because
(07:29):
you'll realize how much already exists, not only within you, but around you.
Dr.
Joe Dispenza talks a lot about thepresent moment and just how expansive
that is and how precious that is.
You know, based on our past, based oneverything that exists or around us and
our perception of everything going onaround us, we can usually and fairly
(07:53):
scientifically predict the future, particularly if we don't change anything.
But this precious, generous, expansive, present, that is where
all of the possibility lies.
That is where everything, that ispotential that you could create,
that you could step into exists.
And even if we can't see it, and evenif when we stop into that moment,
(08:18):
our minds wanna reel and our mindswanna tell us all the things that
are wrong with us because we're notcontinuing to do, we're not hustling.
We're taking a break.
How dare we that diatribe of negativepreconditioned, usual thoughts
that berate us and barrage us.
If we can take that moment to just senseand just allow ourselves to really see
(08:40):
what exists in this moment, which iseverything, every potential combination.
Every possibility, because aroundus is this incredible energy
field, this incredible quantumfield that is beyond our senses.
We can't feel it, see it,taste it, touch it from a.
Tactile human perspective, but in thisbeautiful, generous, present moment,
(09:06):
there is so much else that exists beyondour senses, beyond this human realm
That when we tap into it, just in thosemoments, even if it's just a micro
moment, you can just pause for a secondand drop that need to be productive
and just breathe and be like, yes.
Oh my gosh.
I feel the potential.
I feel the possibility that existshere even although it's not in this
(09:29):
moment, and I can just sit with it.
I don't have to force it.
I don't have to hustle.
I don't have to try and tap intobravado or forceful energy or a
masculine energy, which we oftenassociate with big, bold moves.
I can just sit becauseboldness really is just trust.
(09:51):
It is a trust of what exists around mein each and every moment, and it is a
trust that I, as a human, as a soul, asa consciousness, I have the ability to
tap into what I really wanna do, and knowand feel about myself and about the world
to move in the directions that reallybring me joy and bring me happiness.
(10:13):
And so creating space and tapping intothat allows that stuff to start to
raise to the surface with feminine flow.
When we tap into that space and we dropthe hustle, the doing, the pushing,
the straining, and we tap into energy,we all of a sudden feel the balance.
It's not something that we choose to haveto see balance or have to acknowledge
(10:37):
balance, but it just clicks in.
And I'm not saying that we should abandonall time or all timelines like that
is not how society works But if we'reable to tap into what already exists
within us and around us in each moment.
we can really source this incredibleenergy that exists to move us forward,
(11:00):
to propel us forward without havingto be productive, without having to
push or squeeze or force ourselves.
And in those moments where we're able tomove into a different way of being and a
different way of moving, all of a suddenthe value comes from what already is.
We start to feel the potential thatexists within us and that starts to fuel
(11:24):
this feeling of, I already have this.
I am already whole.
I don't need to try and provemyself to others to feel that
wholeness or to feel that value.
I already have that within me, and that isa beautiful and incredible space to be in.
But we need to create that spaciousnessfor these feelings, for this bravery,
(11:49):
for this bold, and for this clarityof the next step that we're going
to take to be able to drop in.
Because when we're, when we are moving atsuch a click, or we are filling our lives
with so many things to try and feel thingsor achieve things, It can be really hard
to feel that value on our own becausewe're so distracted or we're so meaning
(12:10):
for the world around us to reflect backwhat we wanna feel that we miss, that we
actually can feel it ourselves all along.
And one of the other things thatI've found that productivity can do,
particularly when we're in that realscarce hustle version of productivity,
is that it can push us into the trap ofactually becoming or mirroring someone
(12:35):
else or someone that we don't wanna be.
I remember getting intocorporate environments where
everybody was productive, whereeverybody was very driven and
had big goals and big ambitions.
and I naturally started to match that.
I naturally started to shape myidentity, the way that I showed up,
the things that I valued in my lifeand the activities that I had outside
(12:58):
of my work based on what was expectedof me within that culture, and it's
so easy to become lost in that.
we can also develop these patternsof scattered energy or of hustle.
I don't know if you've ever gone tomake a bold move or you've gone to set
a new dream and you've taken a firststep or a big step to get there and all
(13:21):
of a sudden an opportunity or a yes.
Or a door opens and then you startto feel this huge surge of like
unsettled, scattered, oh my goodness, now I have to work even harder.
Now I have to prove myself.
They've said yes to this thing that I'veasked them, whether it's a collaboration
or an opportunity or a conversation, and you get into this proving energy
(13:45):
of, well, now I need to be reallybold and I need to be over the top
and I need to prove and tap dance.
And it can feel reallyscattered in your body really.
scattered, really anxious, real.
I like to think of it like.
Like it feels like slippingon the ice, on ice skates.
You're like running, running, running, running, slipping, slipping, slipping,
but you're not getting anywhere.
You're staying in the same spot.
And if you're not careful, you just falland collapse because you've absolutely
(14:09):
burnt yourself out or you've become, andyou've acted and behaved in the way that
you think someone else needs you to be,to prove something, to feel something.
And you've digressed so far fromwhere you actually wanna be.
And before you know it, you wake upand you're like, how did I get here?
Who did I get?
Who did I become in the process?
And why am I so tired?
(14:32):
So being really conscious of, oh.
Allowing ourselves to make boldmoves or get these yeses or have
these opportunities, but reallyhold ourselves in the power of, I
don't need to be hyper-productiveor hustle to make this work.
I'm gonna walk forward knowing, like I said, in that spacious
moment of I'm already whole.
(14:54):
And I have this excitement, thismagnetism, this drawing forward into this
opportunity that I'm just gonna trust andI'm gonna follow the flow of the energy,
regardless of the parcel of time that isrequired for it, and just step into this
authenticity and allow my boldness to besourced from this beautiful, balanced,
energized, masculine and feminine state.
(15:17):
I'm not gonna become a bulldozer.
I'm not going to get into thisincredibly accelerated hustle energy,
and I'm not talking about slowingtimelines down or not speeding up in
terms of quantum timeline collapsing.
Those things happen when we'rein spaciousness and we're in
connection with ourselves.
(15:38):
I'm talking about being in a calmstate of flow that allows us to
progress and create these incrediblesources of value without this false,
fake, or scarce version of boldness.
And I know everybody's at a differentpart of their journey with all of
this, with being able to sit and tapinto and connect with this energy,
(16:02):
with this spaciousness that exists.
But one of the most powerful thingsthat you can do is just allow yourself
a parcel of time, a morsel of time,a moment where you can just sit.
And you can just zone out.
I love to go and sit somewhere whereI have a view as long as I can see the
(16:23):
sky and some clouds and some trees likelooking out across a field or a park,
or maybe it's out towards the ocean.
just sitting in a space thatfeels quiet and having a moment
to just sit and sense what's herein this generous present moment.
And then I wanna allow myself to tapinto my imagination and my senses
(16:46):
that allow me to feel and sensewhat exists beyond the tangible.
Beyond what I can see, smell, taste,And just taking the time to start
to train yourself to tap into that.
Because the present moment it is the mostexpansive place you'll ever tap into.
And you can do it with your eyes open.
You can do it with your eyes closed, whatever feels really powerful for you.
(17:10):
I love to do it with my eyes open.
I like to just spend a moment to noticethe way the sunlight hits something.
Or the way the butterflies move throughthe grass or the way the clouds slowly
shift across the sky and really senseinto the energy behind that, the
vibration that makes up the atoms andthe particles and the matter that I see,
(17:33):
but also everything that I don't see.
I allow my imagination, my thirdeye, my visualization ability to
just start to see the potential.
I might be looking at an oak tree, but Ican also see through the oak tree, beyond
the oak tree, into the energy that exists.
I know this might sound wild.
Like if you're listening to thisfor the first time and you're like,
(17:55):
what on earth is she talking about?
This is insane.
Like I can't see anythingbeyond the physical matter.
Trust me when I say that isa normal thought to have.
Like being in time and being inproductivity and being in the usual
expectation of what it means to have alife as a human and have responsibilities.
(18:18):
Feeling that and thinking that istotally normal, but when you start to
tap into some of these principles andthese ways of thinking and accessing
what exists for you beyond the physical.
It gets easier and easier and youstart to feel it, and as you move
through your day, you'll noticecoincidences start to collapse in.
(18:40):
You'll notice yourself getting into thesemoments of like, ah, I can see everything,
or I can, I can sense everything thatexists here in this moment beyond this
frustrating conversation or beyondthis school pickup line, or beyond
the thing that I'm in at the moment.
I feel that there is potentialthat exists beyond it, and
I'm gonna start allowing it.
(19:02):
Into my present moment so thatmy frequency and my magnetism
can start to match that.
And you will be so surprised overtime how the two things start
to collapse in on each other.
And the things that you visualizeand that you focus on in those
moments of spaciousness, they'llstart to show up in your day.
(19:23):
Your everyday existence andyou'll start to think, oh my
goodness, how did this happen?
How did I all of a sudden startto manifest this relationship or
this opportunity, or this bravery?
Like where did all this braveryand this willingness to move
forward and take action with.
Without scarcity, without hustle, without external validation or
(19:44):
value, where has this come from?
And it's simply because you're allowingthe space in to drop away some of these
old beliefs and these old patternsthat you've been in to access the
potential and the possibility that existin every single moment of your life.
And you're changing the way thatyou show up every day so that your
(20:06):
life and your dreams, that youknow that you're destined for.
It can start to happen.
I hope this has been sucha helpful conversation.
