Two booklovers reunite for a heartfelt conversation spanning European adventures and the surprising power of community reading.

CATCH UP WITH US: it's been a minute and we are sorry!! (but also not really because life)

Budapest emerges as the unexpected star of the travel segment, with gorgeous thermal baths housed in Art Nouveau buildings and unlimited prosecco cruises along the Danube proving worthy of any travel bucket list. While the city's vast scale might seem intimidating, its walkable streets and convenient electric scooters make three days the perfect timeframe for soaking up its culture, architecture, and surprisingly safe nightlife.

The conversation shifts to a deeper exploration of how physical book clubs are creating meaningful connections in our increasingly digital world. As one host discovers the joy of a local "Beach Read and Bubbly" gathering, we're reminded of what sociologists call "third places" - those vital community spaces beyond home and work that foster authentic human connection. After years of pandemic isolation and virtual interaction, these in-person literary gatherings represent something profoundly important about our fundamental need for community.

Jordan (00:08):
welcome to the bookish hour with joran fob.
Fantastic yeah, I was gonna belike, oh, maybe no recording
what?

Fabienne (00:24):
no recording?
Yes, yes, recording.
No recording for us.
Luckily, he did say recording,so we're good to go, we're good
to go, ready for takeoff.

Jordan (00:40):
so I want to hear all about Budapest.

Fabienne (00:43):
Let's go, oh you know that song like get the fuck up,
okay, let's go.
Do you know that one Like thathouse song?
Or like that hip hop, I don'teven know what genre it is.
It's like this girl just saying.
It's like I'm turning to a.
This doesn't make any sense toyou.
Wait, I'm gonna, can I?
No, no, fuck this.

Jordan (01:06):
I'm wait, I'm gonna, can I?
No, no, fuck this.
I'm gonna talk about buddhafantastic, oh and fucking
fantastic.

Fabienne (01:09):
Therefore, four whole days, which in hindsight, might
have been a bit too enthusiastic, um, really yeah, because like
halfway, like around lunchtimeon sunday, uh we were like, okay
, what are we going to do now?
Because I had nothing like onthe itinerary.
I wanted to see that.
And um, also, a few shops werelike closed, because sunday is,

(01:34):
you know, not everything is like24, 7, like open and like um,
so we were just like hanging outby the river, uh, just, I guess
, enjoying the warm weather, anduh, yeah, but it was also just
like, okay, we're just waitinguntil we get, we could get like
to the airport.
So I want to say, if you aregoing to is absolutely doable

(01:58):
and I think it's also perfectamount of days, three whole days
three whole days okay was I cutout, or did you just not hear?
yeah no, you're cut off.
Okay, well, we're just gonnasee, uh where this goes and uh,
otherwise, there's gonna be alot editing in this episode.

(02:18):
Have fun, gives me something todo.
What if you leave and come back?

Jordan (02:22):
really what if you leave and come back real quick?

Fabienne (02:26):
okay, okay, wait, wait , do not leave without me, okay
yeah, no, I'm just gonna.

Jordan (02:33):
I'll keep our listeners entertained while you leave and
come back okay, perfect, byehere is some elevator music,
elevator music, elevator music,elevator music.
She's back everybody.

Fabienne (02:53):
I was about to ask.

Jordan (02:54):
Perfect, I know I could count on you.
I should have just let you ask,and then it could have been
like oh, you just know me sowell.

Fabienne (03:02):
Honestly.

Jordan (03:02):
But then this way you don't have to edit it out, we
just have elevator music nice, nice, you're welcome, um, I know
.

Fabienne (03:09):
So, yes, three whole days is more than enough, okay,
um, and if you want to have likea relaxed day of like, you know
, packing your bags, checkingout of the hotel or airbnb,
whatever you're staying in, andjust like go back to the airport
, I'd recommend three and a halfdays.
Perfect, because there's, it'sa big city.
I don't even I don't know ifyou look at cities in terms of

(03:30):
how big they are by thepopulation or just like in
actual scale, like in terms oflike you know how big it is in
terms of like miles, um, butit's really fucking big, like
huge.
So, um, it has like all thesedifferent districts, um, and
it's, it's ironically, eventhough it's so, regardless of it

(03:53):
being so big, it is verywalkable, wow, walkable.
That sounds so strange if I sayit like that you can walk.
Just say city and it's good, butit has like all these scooter
mobiles, like the scooter steps.
Those are cool, those are cool, those are really fucking cool.

(04:14):
I didn't take a picture or likea video of it, which I should
have, because it just looksreally fun, but it was, it was
fantastic.
If you're ever gonna come back, like to Europe and you're gonna
do like a city trip, likethroughout.
Please, please, tackle Budapestas well, because it is.

Jordan (04:34):
Okay, but like.
But if you're saying the city'sso big, how did you?
Was there just like not thatmuch to do?

Fabienne (04:46):
they're just like not that much to do.
Um, well, I mean, obviously youhave, like your tourist reps,
and some of them are actuallylike worth seeing.
Um, I don't know.
I this is actually a difficultquestion.
I think, like, what do you doin a city?
You just like wander about andjust like go into, like weird
alleys because you want to seethe architecture, you want to
see, you know, like, the littlenooks and crannies of the city.
Basically, um, so what weactually did do?

(05:09):
We went to this old jugenstilslash, art nouveau like bath
house which is technically inthe middle of the city because
it's like landlocked, right umhungary, and um, it only has
this one biggest river flowingthrough the city, which is
called the danube, if I'mcorrect.

(05:30):
Um, so it doesn't have like Idon't even know how to pronounce
it, it's, you know it is whatit is, um, but it doesn't, so it
doesn't have like these hugelakes or like these huge, I
don't know these waters like, uh, I guess, like connecticut has,
uh, also, connecticut is likenot landlocked.

(05:51):
Obviously it has, like you know, the coastline, but, um,
budapest doesn't have that, soyou're trying to escape.
You know hot temperatures inthis bathhouse, but it was
packed, it was like sardines, you know, like you, just
everything was just like, butyou know it was fun.
The architecture, like I said,it was beautiful.
I took so many great photos, ifI do say so myself, ever so

(06:14):
humbly.
Um, the food was really good, like their.
Their staple thing is likepaprika, um, oh, and it's like
very spicy, very like spiceful, like, as in, like very flavorful
, flavorsome, but also reallyspicy, depending on like how

(06:36):
mild or, you know, not mild, youwant to have it.
Um, really good.
Um, I would have really lovedto try like their staple dish
too, like the.
I think it's called goulash,it's like a meat type of.

(06:57):
I think, if you look up, you'relike, oh yeah, I know this.
I feel like this is like asausage type of meal, but you
know, since I don't eat meat, Icould not sausage type of meal.
But you know, since I don't eatmeat, I could not, um, but it
smelled delicious because wewent we did go to like a
hungarian restaurant and it'sand it, like they served it and
just like the smell, it was ohso rich so did jay get it like.

Jordan (07:18):
Did he like it?
Can you like?

Fabienne (07:20):
he didn't.
He didn't get it.
He did try one of those paprikadishes, uh, with a pasta, you
know, sort of playing it safe, but really really nice.
Um, we also did do thisProsecco tour, which I think you
would have loved so much too.
Like this was one of the girl,it really was.
This was obviously like atourist trap, but it was a good

(07:42):
tourist trap and also worth yourmoney.
Um, so they have like all thesecruise like ships on the river
there and you know, like there'stons, basically you know
there's tons.
And I got on this app, on thisapp and it said, like, book your
unlimited prosecco betweenbrackets or apparel or beer, um

(08:04):
tour, um, and you know, do yourcruise on on the river.
I'm like, oh, my god, you'regonna do this, we are going to
do this, and it wasn't even likethat expensive.
Um, and they really sure, I kidyou not they really took the
unlimited part very seriously.
I was not even like halfwaythrough my glass and they're
like can I refill this?
Do you want to refill?
Do you want to have a refill?

(08:28):
that's amazing, I think uh thatsounds like my kind of cruise
honestly, and it was like theright prosecco too, like not too
sweet, not too crisp, not too,you know, like too dry, just
like.
Right in the middle ofeverything, it was just
fantastic.
Um, it really was.
It really was really wasamazing.

(08:48):
Um, but that was only on fromlike that was like an hour and a
half, so we still like had todo dinner, but I was so drunk
that day, so drunk the way thatI could still like find one of
those like scooter steps and, just like you know, swerve
through the city.
It was, uh was a miracle that Ididn't hit anybody, but yeah,
it was, it was just really good.

(09:09):
And there were, like all these,uh, farmers markets, uh all
these museums that we went toand also which I didn't even uh
knew beforehand.
Apparently, you know, like wewent this weekend, but on
saturday they had this night ofthe museums thing going on, so
you could just like get your all, like your all entry ticket,
like your all admissions ticket, for like only like seven and a

(09:30):
half euros, which is technicallyseven and a half bucks.
And then there were all thesemuseums that you could go to.
Like it was a castle, uh, whichwas transformed into like an
art gallery.
There was, um, a modern type ofmuseum, the not like the
natural history type of museum, and there was also some other
palace which was like on theother side of the city that we

(09:52):
actually didn't go to because itwas fairly late too this was
after dinner, um but yeah, Iwould highly recommend it like
it feels also safe.
This was actually funny too,too.
I say, actually, by the way, alot Doesn't matter.
This was very interesting, though, because Yerun was
actually the one who said do younotice how quiet it is on the

(10:17):
street like late at night?
I mean, it was like, you know, like bruising I don't think
that's the right expression, butit was like it was.
You know, there were a lot likebuzzing buzzing is the one.
It was like buzzing with peopleon the street, but it was like
a very nice relaxed vibe, likesome people were like skating,
some people were, I don't knowlike whatever people do on like
fucking squares, though, but itwas.

(10:38):
It was like it.
It didn't make you feel, as awoman, specifically like unsafe.
I he said, I think if you walkedhere like around at like 1 30
in the morning and everyone waslike still doing this because
you know it's a saturday andapparently, like people go out
heavily in on the weekends thereas well, because there are a
lot of clubs, um, you could justwalk back home where dark
alleyways, no danger, that's.

(11:01):
So, yeah, I think it's a.
It's a really safe city forwomen too, also for like solo
travelers, um, but also just for, like you know, like a bff city
trip, like with your partner,um anniversary trip, you know,
in my case, uh, it was reallyreally lovely.
Yeah, yeah so when?

Jordan (11:20):
when were you there from like Thursday to Monday or
Thursday to Tuesday?

Fabienne (11:25):
No Thursday to Sunday.
Yeah, oh, okay, okay, yeah, Ifeel like those are actually a
pretty, pretty nice days too, like especially like you know,
when you go to the city you wantto have like some things to do
in the evenings too.
And Thursdays are likebasically, you know, it's Friday
Eve, if that makes sense, andthen Friday, obviously, and then

(11:46):
saturday and sunday is alwayslike nice with brunches.
So I feel like those four daysare always pretty nice.
Yeah, yeah, to go, agreed yeah,uh, agreed, yeah, but I would
definitely recommend it yeahokay, okay, adding it to the
travel list.

Jordan (12:02):
Yeah, that's, it's getting longer.
Now right, I know, just longerand longer and places are
getting farther and farther,unfortunately.

Fabienne (12:13):
Unfortunately.
Well, it feels actually likeyou're pretty close to me right
now because you know why Trumpis in the Netherlands.

Jordan (12:22):
Really.

Fabienne (12:23):
Yeah, yeah for the NATO or something, something
like.
They have this big ass meetingwith you know, world leaders.
It's happening in the haguegosh, yeah so, but I'm not there
I want to be there, yeah wouldhave been way more important to
anyways, I mean I know wouldhave been way cooler like it's

(12:45):
me obviously, obviously, um, butwait, tell me, tell me about
things that's been happening,like that's been happening.
That sounded really drastic.
Tell me something that uhhappened, or you know you
history?
Tell me me history.

Jordan (13:04):
I feel like I got nothing.
Oh, literally, I don't evenknow.
I feel like, yeah, I don'tthink I've had anything.

Fabienne (13:15):
I do have no oh, I sometimes forget you like to.
Actually, they just like jotthem down just to make note of
it, like during the podcast.
That is adorable well.

Jordan (13:29):
So like I should have done that, I should have done
that.
I actually didn't do that, butI was looking at my calendar
being like, okay, can I seeanything?
Oh, did I do anything?
Cool?
Oh wait, so I my okay.
So I feel, like I've told youthis before, like I'm in the
beach, read and bubbly's likebook club, but in rhode island.
So it's like like an hour away, which isn't like horrible, but

(13:53):
it's like not the best.
Well, she opened up more roomsand they opened.
She opened up an easternconnecticut one which is where I
am and I told one of my oldestfriends about it and she joined
her stepsister that she likeactually really likes joined.
And we met another person that'slike in the same town as us and

(14:14):
that first book club happenedlast week and it was so much fun
.
So much fun Because you knowhow, like, as you get older,
like life happens, like I, myoldest friend, I like to we
don't get to to see each otherthat often, but like I've known
her since like third grade, likewe've been friends forever, but
just like we could I don't knowlike we just didn't hang out.
We don't hang out as muchanymore.

(14:36):
But now, like this book clubhappens, it's going to be like
once a month and we already havelike our next meeting like set,
but I'm so excited it finallyhappened.
Plus, it's like in my town, soit's like we met like outside of
town but it was like a 20minute drive versus like an hour
or something you know.
So it's like it was just likeso nice and I feel like that's

(14:58):
my like one exciting thing thatis honey.

Fabienne (15:02):
That that is exciting.
Also you get to see your bestfriend like way more often.
Also you get to talk aboutbooks.
I mean, what's not to love, youknow?

Jordan (15:10):
oh, and it's like small too.
So like the one in rhode island, which all the girls are super
nice there, but there's like 10to 13 of us.
So like I don't really say muchduring those like meetings
because, or the like hanging outbecause it's just like there's
too many and we have sideconversations and I'll like talk
during that, but like this wasso nice because it was only four

(15:31):
of us and then as it grows, like at least like I will know
everybody you know, like as likeas they come it will be like
slow introductions, like I stilldon't even know like half the
people's names in the rhodeisland.

Fabienne (15:44):
One I'm like uh, but they're like people your age,
like they're women, they'rewomen right.

Jordan (15:49):
They're all women but like some of them are like they,
I think they range from like20s to like 40s.

Fabienne (15:57):
So like all around our age.
Yeah, oh, that's actuallypretty nice to have like such a
diverse group too, right?

Jordan (16:05):
Right, but I'm just like so excited about this like
southeastern connecticut one, because I feel like it's closer,
we can do like more things.
It's smaller so we can all chatand then, yeah, as it gets
bigger, I'm only like learninglike new people, like once at a
time, yeah, instead of like 10to 13 people at once yeah, yeah,
you kind of can.

Fabienne (16:25):
You know, you sort of like disappear, not you
specifically, but like in agroup like that big too, and
then you actually have to, youknow, participate.
You feel like sometimes youdisappear in a group that big,
um, so it's nicer to have like amore intimate group where you
actually, you know, like pullout of your shell to actually
partake.
So, yeah, I guess that's nice.
What, what?
What is the book that you'rereading now for that book club?

Jordan (16:46):
Okay.
So actually we did the whole.
We're not going to read this, this, this.
So everybody wrote somethingdown, but since it was only four
of us, but like mine one, solike I've been trying to go
through my physical TBR so Iwrote down a book that I had but
haven't read, so wild love byElsie Silver one.

Fabienne (17:02):
So that's like our July book of the month, but I'm
like it is so nice I'm I'm kindof like envious I guess is the
right term that you have a bookclub, like physically, that you
go to.
That is so fun I know like I.

Jordan (17:21):
So I loved like the whole idea of it and I really
wanted one.
So I tried to make I.

(17:43):
So I loved like the whole ideaof it and I really wanted one.
So I tried to be like michelleobama's like memoir, you know,
and I like beach read and bubblybecause, like I think everybody
that goes to follow her they'rethey're people that like smutty
books, they're people that likethrillers, they're people that
like the literary fiction.

(18:05):
So it's like, and I think thatwe're not gonna read is great,
because then everybody can put abook in and you feel like you
have input.
But then it's like whateverbook is picked is like the one
we read.
But like knowing that everyperson there likes a spicy book
is nice because it's like, andthen, like I think everybody put
down like a summer vibe book, which was great.

(18:27):
So it's like I don't know likeI really like it and I like that
this one's also closer and Idon't know like I feel like I
just I've always wanted a bookclub.
I just wanted a book club thatI could go see, like even if all
my friends joined it, but Ijust wanted one where it's like,
okay, we're held accountable,like we're meeting once a month.
We're gonna talk about this bookand we're also just gonna talk

(18:49):
and then we'll decide the nextbook, the next meeting, and then
it just like because I feellike once a month is an easy
commitment oh it is right, yeah, and so it's like to stick to
too exactly, and I think like, and I'm so excited to be able to
like see this friend too, likeonce a month, where I normally
don't get to see her that often.
So I'm like so excited, I'mglad you can.

Fabienne (19:11):
Yeah, it feels like, I think, the reason why I guess
then you and I, specifically inthis case, love book clubs, like
physical book clubs.
So much is that.
Also, have you heard about, um,I guess, the concept of third
places?
Have you ever heard of that?
No, so, back in the 90s, in the80s, like the, the zeros and

(19:36):
whatnot, before, internet waslike such a hit, basically like
especially before social media, because everything happens
online now, right, like you hadlike you had like your online
chat rooms and like your forumsand everything.
But back in the day you used togo like outside to meet up with
people, to hang out with people,to just like socialize.
Third places could be like it'slike outside of house and

(19:59):
outside of like your workspace.
So it was like after school itwas hanging out on like the
parking lot with kids where youwould play basketball.
You know, as a weird example,it's you going to your friend's
house on your bike.
It's hanging out in front ofthe supermarket.
It's going to just like thepark.
It's meeting up with people incafes and like bookstores, maybe

(20:20):
even as an example here, it'swhere you would actually meet
people outside to go to a place, and I think people I've seen
this on, ironically, I've seenit on Instagram but people
commenting on how the world isgoing socially, how the world is
going to like such, you know,it's going spiraling downwards,
basically because we don't havethese third places as much as

(20:44):
any, like as we used to.
Um, and I think now the I guessup march is maybe not the right
word of describing it, but likethe march of, like you know,
the upcoming of physical bookclubs, you know people actually
coming together to parks to meetup again is it's what gonna
saves us in the end between airquotes, um, no, and I kind of

(21:05):
agree with that because I feellike, especially like with COVID
, which I totally understand.

Jordan (21:09):
With COVID, I think it's really cool that, like a bunch
of people met throughBookstagram and BookTok and they
started these like online Zoombook clubs, which I think was
very nice in those settingswhere you can still get the
interaction with somebody else, when we couldn't leave and we
couldn't go to these placesbecause everything was closed.
But and I know there's so manypeople that do virtual book

(21:31):
clubs, which is so nice and socool.
But, like I was, I wanted thatgetting out of the house, I
wanted that third place, thatthird like spot to go to.
So it's so nice, like I lovethat this Beach Read and Bubbly
started this like book club andpeople like go and like follow
and it's.
It's interesting too because, like I think, especially for

(21:52):
southeastern Connecticut, Ithink there's about 15 people in
the Geneva chat room for it,but only four of us showed up.
So it's like I feel like a lotof people.
I think sometimes, too, it waslike this was our first one ever
people.
I think sometimes, too, it waslike this was our first one ever
, like I can understand, maybenot everybody going to it,
totally fine, but like, I thinkit's like it's great for the

(22:14):
people that want to get out andlike they don't want to, like I
almost I feel like now, becauseof like I think I agree with you
, like everybody was, it wasgoing downhill.
Not downhill, but like goingthrough virtually everything
with chat rooms.
Like you're saying that I think, especially after having locked
down, a lot of people want thatin-person physical interaction,

(22:39):
and so it's like doing thesebook clubs again.
I feel like like is great andit's like maybe I should start
looking for a book club too.
You totally should, I bet you.
I'm.
I'm curious if a Beach Read andBubbly actually already has an
Amsterdam one, not saying thatyou need to join hers, but like

(23:01):
oh, man, I could.

Fabienne (23:02):
I mean if like the platform is there not?

Jordan (23:06):
yeah yeah, I'm gonna look really quick because like I
, that's okay because she haslike there's a uk one, there's
an australia one, but those arelike clearly like the big cities
, because mostly in yeah sure, let me just book a ticket
quickly to australia and go to abook club.

Fabienne (23:24):
I know super quick.
Honestly, honestly, if Igenerally had the chance and I
had the money to spend on itright now, I would splurge on a
fucking ticket and just go tothe connecticut one oh, yes,
please oh yeah, no, there's likea no, there's a bunch of um
canada then there, but there'sdublin, ireland, germany, france

(23:46):
, mexico, australia, scotlandand vienna.

Jordan (23:50):
Wow, she's like international girls going places
, literally yes, well, and thething is too like there's
actually two book club rooms nowbecause she's gotten so big in
geneva only allows for so manyrooms.
Yeah, but like, the thing iskind of cool, like you just go
like, and that's how I started.

(24:11):
My Southeastern Connecticut isbasically um, I asked her to
create a SoutheasternConnecticut chat room and then
everybody in Southeasternconnecticut could go join it and
that's how we like created itand I think members yeah,
there's literally 15 of us inthis chat, in this like

(24:35):
southeastern connecticut nowgrant granted not clearly not
everybody like it's so easy tojust join and then you just
don't do anything, but it's likecool, that, like it's a
possibility, that like you can,I don't know.
Yeah, I think you should totallyjoin one in Amsterdam if you
can and want to Highly recommend.

(24:56):
Well, I definitely want to.

Fabienne (24:58):
I feel like maybe sometimes I might be Okay,
hypothetically speaking, if Iwere to join one.
I think I might be too awkwardfor one as well.
I don't know why.
I think that because I couldactually be really outgoing and
I could just, like you know, overcome myself in that sense.
But sometimes I'm like what if?
What if I am?
What if I don't like the people?

(25:27):
What if I don't like the book?
What if I don't like the spacewhere it is happening.

Jordan (25:28):
I feel like I'm going to be.
I would be so awkward.
How, how was like the?
How was the first physicalmeeting for you?
Like how, oh my god, so fuckingintimidating nick actually came
with me because he's like Idon't know these people.
So he, literally, we met at arestaurant, which is nice
because we met at a restaurant,so you eat, so I think.
And when there's more than oneother person, when you don't
know them, I feel like it's lessintimidating because you don't
have to talk all the time, whichis helpful for me, like when I

(25:49):
have to be on.
That's what stresses me andtires me out.
But, like, if you have at leastthree people, I think it makes
a difference.
At least three, but more isbetter.
But like, we literally met at arestaurant.
Nick sat at the bar because hewas like I don't know these
people.

Fabienne (26:06):
He, like, sat at the bar because he was like I don't
know these people.
He like sat at the bar and hehad like a drink, adorable
actually, right.
But then I felt sorry but thenhe was there.

Jordan (26:15):
We were there for like two hours so he like I felt bad
but I didn't know it was gonnabe like a two-hour thing.
I thought it was just gonna belike an hour but and then it
like but it was nice too in thesense that like there were so
many girls there that I didn't Ithink I said like a total of
like 10 words that first meeting, because I also was right I was

(26:39):
like shy and I didn't know whatto say.
And I think too, like once youstart knowing the, the people,
you're asking more about theirlike everyday lives and maybe
the book was like 50% of thetime, but then the other 50% it
was just like everybody catchingup because they haven't seen
each other in a week where thisSoutheastern Connecticut one was

(27:01):
really nice because it wasbasically all book talk, because
we didn't know like everybodywell, it was, you know.
So it was like nice in that waythat it was mostly like, and,
granted, like 50 was probablythe book we picked, but then the
other 50 was just chattingabout other books in general.
So it was still focused onbooks, but that was like kind of

(27:22):
nice, because then I think, aswe start to get to know
everybody, then it will be likeoh so, like how we heard we knew
that you were out of town forwork this week.
Like how was it?
You know what I mean.
Or like how's your family doing, actually engaging with these
people, yeah yeah, but I do haveto say it like makes a
difference when there's justmore than one other person.
If you don't like know them, no, I get that.

Fabienne (27:42):
So you don't have to be like, uh, oh, the way you put
it.
Actually, you don't like knowthem.
No, I get that.
So you don't have to be like,uh, oh, the way you put it.
Actually you don't have to likebe on all the time.
Yeah, so now you're reading, then wild Hi.

Jordan (27:58):
Side Love, wild love.
They haven't.
You were close, you were close.
You're behind schedule, girl.
Well, technically it's notuntil the end of Jan, july,
january, end of July, yeah butwell along those lines.
What are you currently reading?

Fabienne (28:21):
I am currently going through a summer reads type of
TBR that I saw Genesis actuallyput online.
Genesis Subways from Chapters.
Ever since I read Hayley Christ, Allie Hazelwood's problematic

(28:44):
summer romance, I'm like I needthe summer vibes, I need the
contemporary sweet romances.
So, yeah, I am now reading, andbecause I am so bad with titles
, because I literally picked itup this morning, something,
something.
And Dante I think it's calledLizzie Lissy and Dante by Mary

(29:09):
Bly.
Do you know?
Do you know this?
Um, I don't know the blurb.
I just looked at the cover.
It was like, wow, if this doesscream like Italy, I don't know
what does.
I'm going to send you ascreenshot real quick.
Okay, Wait, yeah, Like I needto see it now.
You know, like, when you thinkof Italy and like the coast and
like the, you know, like thosesummer shots, like on Pinterest,

(29:32):
you imagine like these hugetown, like not huge, but like
these huge rocks, and then likea town is basically like
superimposed on those rocks, basically like the town is like
in, like on the.
This is.
I can't explain for shit, can I?
No, I can't wait, I'll show it.

Jordan (29:52):
I'll show you just a picture okay, I feel like I need
to.

Fabienne (29:55):
I need to see yeah, okay, this one, um, I'm not even
sure if it like came outrecently, yes or no, but I just
saw the picture and I was like,oh yeah yeah, this is it.
This is hitting the spot yeah, but like the cover is so good, I
oh wait I'm kind of obsessed, right.

(30:16):
This cover is amazing um, butit is a contemporary romance, so
so you know summer and Italy.
So I was like fuck, yes, I'mgoing to do this, Sorry me too,
Well, because I saw, sorry, yougo.
No, no, no you go.
How far are you?
No, you go.

Jordan (30:34):
No, because this.

Fabienne (30:36):
How far am I?
Well, like I said literallythis morning, so two pages, I
like it.

Jordan (30:43):
I like it.
I can't say anything about ityet because I was going to say
you just finished like CarlyFortuna's.
Yes, that was my last read.

Fabienne (30:53):
Yes, I have been obsessed with her writing ever
since.
I read One Golden Summer when Iwent to Dublin.
Her writing is just quick, it'switty.

Jordan (31:01):
It's actually pretty similar to Allie Henselwood so I
know that you're gonna love it.
I want to read one goldensummer so freaking badly, so
freaking badly and I need toread it.

Fabienne (31:14):
It's like it's it's fantastic and like I love her
covers too, like pretty.
I don't know what is up with.
I feel like there is a themegoing on here, like there is a
lot of handwritten fonts, orlike are you tired, Jordan?
Are you or are you just boredof me?
No, I could never be bored ofyou.

(31:35):
What was it gone for?
I don't know it.

Jordan (31:37):
Just it came out all of a sudden, and I was.
I couldn't stop it.
There was no stopping it.

Fabienne (31:49):
Back, stopping it.
Um.
Back to the book.
No kidding, but this one wasactually so good, so good.
And remember when I texted youlike how I love her books
because of slow burn, there'slike yearning and and then this
book happened right away, it'sall that.
But it also like they bang alot, like in every single
flashback, but it's, but it'svery tastefully written.
It's not like, oh, his dickwent inside of her, you know.

Jordan (32:11):
It's like not like the dark type of smut, it's just
like I don't know why I'mpicturing that when you like
said that, but I was like tryingto get the audio to pick that
up.

Fabienne (32:27):
Yeah, yes, uh-huh, I can't, I have to hold my mic
like yes but it's so good andalso the man are fucking swoon
worthy.
I, oh yeah, love that this.
A no-brainer five stars Really.
Yeah, yeah, want to go in thesummer.

(32:49):
A no-brainer five stars too, Idid.
I also read Meet Me at the Lake.

Jordan (32:57):
I heard that one's not good.
I heard a lot of people did notlike that one.

Fabienne (33:02):
Oh okay, no, no no, they are onto something those
people Cause.
I liked it but you didn't loveit.
Okay, wait, let me rephrasethat, because the leg is maybe
too strong to work too.
I uh, finished it was.
It was an okay book.
You read it.
I'm not mad that I read it.
I, I, I even went as far toactually finish the book like I

(33:25):
did not dnf it, which is alsolike did she know?
It's a milestone for me anyways, nowadays, but every time I
like it what about that one?
I haven't read that one yet Ihaven't read that one yet.
I heard that one's like yeahbut you can read those basically
in no order, because they'reall.
They're not like yeah, yeah, maybe, maybe actually that one,

(33:51):
okay, so here's the thing.
So I read one golden summer, first, yeah, and then I actually
I, I did read theAcknowledgement, I don't know
what was happening to me.
So I know I know Huge, you knowhuge thing.
But then I read Every SummerAfter where this other couple
who makes a presence in OneGolden Summer, like oh fuck, did

(34:12):
I read this all backwards again?
Did I start with like like booknumber two in a series of
whatever?
Um, but I think actually likeeverything can just like be read
like separately.

Jordan (34:22):
there's no interconnectedness, no, okay
okay cool, because I'm gonnastart with one golden summer,
because that's a book club pickfor the other book club so, so,
so good, so good.

Fabienne (34:35):
And then this one too, please, so good and I want to
read every summer.
After I think I just need tobuy them all maybe you don't
necessarily need to buy meet meat the lake.
Maybe you can just like kindleunlimited, that one, but the
okay, the covers are pretty okay.

Jordan (34:53):
So maybe if you want to have the question and that one's
really pink girl, that one'spink, and I think I'm in, like,
my pink era, even though I'm notwearing any pink whatsoever.

Fabienne (35:01):
No, but your candle like your cover and then your
mug.

Jordan (35:05):
I know like.
I think I'm just like I want tobe.
I was never a pink girly, orlike my glitter girly, and I'm
now trying to be.
Question Answer.

Fabienne (35:19):
Hopefully, when you were a kid, were you like a
girly girl or like somewhere inbetween girl, not necessarily
tomboy not necessarily girly pop, like leaning towards a tomboy.

Jordan (35:35):
Yes, so now I'm like making up for lost time.
Give me the fucking glitter, give me the pink.
My favorite color is still blue.
But like, give me the pink, give me the sparkles, give me
yeah, that, yeah, honestly same.

Fabienne (35:49):
I feel like I feel like this is maybe like a
universal thing, because see alot of other girls like do that
too.
Like you know, I wear a littlebit more.
You know jewelry too.
I started wearing like eyelinersometimes, which my fortune,
but pretty with it I paint mynails like you know, I'm getting
my nails done all the time.

Jordan (36:09):
I'm like I was never here for it, though I wear like
lace skirts, Jordan, forChrist's sake.
I love it, lace, lace, I lovesit.

Fabienne (36:21):
So, yeah, you get the girl, you get that pink cover,
you get that pink cover.

Jordan (36:24):
Thank you, thank you, I will.
Maybe I'll make a reel out ofit.
Let's pick up.
Well, maybe I should read oneof her books and then be like
loved it.
Let me go get everything.

Fabienne (36:37):
I'm going to get it in every color like your cats.

Jordan (36:39):
Yes, I like it, so I get another color.
I like it, so I get anothercolor.
Okay, but I want to talk aboutmine.
I'm reading because I feel likeI can go real deep.
I'm currently reading the WindyCity series and I am loving it
so much.
Windy City series, and I amloving it so much and I

(37:00):
understand the hype of like whythe series gets so much hype,
because it's like a fun, likeromance, but it's also pretty
deep, like each thing has.
Each book has like somethingpretty heavy in it, like for
whatever it could be.
So like I started Mile High andI was like obsessed, and then I
read the Right Move and, oh myGod, ryan Shay is like on top,
love him, love me, like a man,and his quiet love Caught Up.

(37:26):
Okay, not my fave, which I justfinished last night, but I
think so.
Oh, what's also great about thisis it's a sports romance, but
you know how, like normallysports romances, it's usually
like a team, so it's all likeone team, but it's usually one
sport and they make their waythrough like each player and it
could be like this group offriends on like a hockey team.

(37:49):
You know what I'm saying yeah, yeah, yeah, a lot of them tend
to be this.
What's so cool about this isit's the windy city City, so
they're all Chicago teams, butlike the first one's hockey, the
second one is basketball, butthey're all Chicago-based teams.
The third one is baseball andthen the fourth one is also
baseball and then I think thefifth one goes back to hockey.

(38:11):
But I like that.
They're all different teams, but they're all different teams,
but they're all like Chicagobased teams.

Fabienne (38:16):
So anyway right.

Jordan (38:19):
So the third one caught up is Kai Rhodes, which he's a
pitcher on, like the Chicagobaseball team, whatever it's
called, but I don't love that.
I couldn't Okay.
So like wait, why don't youlove it?

Fabienne (38:35):
Like, you don't like the sports, or you don't like
that he's a pitcher you gottahold on, hold on.

Jordan (38:40):
So, okay, holding on deep picture.
She like described him as aclark kent, so glasses pitcher.
But in my head all I couldpicture was this guy that used
to pitch for the college team, like at the college I was at, oh
no, and he wasn't very goodlooking, oh no.

(39:02):
So all I could picture was himas Kai Rhodes and I was like,
hmm, hmm, oh no, hmm.
And then okay, and so you makehim a single daddy, which
typically I love a single daddy.
You give me heartless daddyCade all the way.
As soon as you say daddy in themotherfucking bedroom cringe ick

(39:26):
, ew, no, absolutely not, absolutely motherfucking not the
three.
Cs like cringe something, something and quick like cringe,
uh, something, something and uh, quick, but like, actually like
the biggest ick of my life whenshe was like he was, he was

(39:47):
inside her and she called himdaddy and I was like, no, so as
soon as that's like gross, yeah, but like, but like the thing is
is like I love a, like he couldbe daddy kai all the way when
referring to his like son orlike in the way of like how
there's daddy kade, like willowwould be like daddy kade, or I'm

(40:11):
saying daddy kade because hehas a little boy.
So I would, would have used thesame thing for Kai.
But then she would call himBaseball Daddy, which didn't
totally love that, but I couldhandle it as a joke.
Like she's referring to him asBaseball Daddy because he has a
kid.
But then, as soon as in themotherfucking bedroom, I was

(40:31):
like he's balls deep inside youand you're calling him Daddy.
I'm like he's balls deep insideyou and you're calling him daddy
.
I'm like he's balls deep, yeah,no, yeah.
And I was just like fuck mylife.
And so many people were likethis one's my favorite and I'm
like, but, but I do, I stilloverall, like enjoyed that story

(40:53):
, like yeah, there were just acouple of X.
I still overall like enjoyedthat story, like, yeah, there
were just a couple icks now playalong is his brother, isaiah.
I might be in love are you he's?
not a daddy is it.

Fabienne (41:09):
No, he is not a daddy, but I kind of like the name too
, aseya.

Jordan (41:14):
Oh, that's actually pretty, pretty, darn sexy and
like he's, it's like it's theone of those.
It's always been.
You like he met her and he waslike that's going to be my wife,
that's my wife.
I love that, but she wasengaged.
Love it even better right right.

(41:35):
All is fair in love and war sortof and I just so, I think I
love one of those.
It's always been you like he.
He fell first and I'm only likeon chapter five, but I'm
already obsessed now, does he I?
Currently ryan shay is up here, though, so like will he surpass
ryan shay?

(41:55):
I don't know, because I'm onlyon chapter five, but I am in
love.
He might, he might, he might,he might.
I hear, I hear there's a verystrong possibility it's it
really is.

Fabienne (42:07):
It's funny because I thought the first one's mile
high.
Yeah, I always thought for somereason that this was like uh, I
don't even know if it is agenre, but like an airplane
series.
So then we were talking aboutpilots because of the mile high
well, okay, you're not wrong.

Jordan (42:24):
So she is a flight attendant for the hockey team,
so that's like she worked for, like flying, the flying the
hockey team privately, so likethat's how they met, which
explains the mile high.
And then the right move is likeshe's a flight attendant for
the hockey team, but liketechnically.

(42:45):
So the first one is Xander'sand Z V V, z and V V.
What's her name?
Fuck, but her brother is RyanShea V.
What's her name?
Fuck, but her brother is RyanShea.
So then it's like her bestfriend and her brother.
And then the next one is likeRyan Shea knows Kai Rhodes.

Fabienne (43:07):
Okay, so there are like connections between, like
all these couples.

Jordan (43:11):
It's like a big found family, because all these guys
are like a family, but like theydefinitely weren't a family
before.
But like Xander's was obsessedwith V who's like.
Ryan's sister and like, yeah,so they're now all becoming like
a found family, which I lovethat.

Fabienne (43:29):
I love found family as a trope.
It's such a good like oldschool trope, but it always
works so well it just hits yes.

Jordan (43:36):
Oh my God, yes, so like that's.
The thing is like I wanted toleave, caught up, like I came
for the single daddy but Istayed for the baseball found
family, because the whole teamstands behind him as being this
like single dad, him as beingthis like single dad, and so

(43:59):
like uh, max, which is thelittle boy, literally starts
walking and everybody like, andhe was there in front of the
whole team and they're all likelike cheering for max, just for
his like first, like steps, andI was like dying on the inside.
Yeah, like that's cute, that'sadorable, so stinking cute.

Fabienne (44:12):
Yeah, so, currently reading these and obsessing, so
my takeaway is that I shouldread this too.
Yes, okay, okay.
Well, seeing as I'm in mycontemporary romance era,
probably yeah, I mean, why not?
Why not?
Indeed, so is this like yourcurrent read?

Jordan (44:32):
slash previous read yeah , because I technically just
finished caught up, which is thethird one, and then I started
play along and play along is thelast one in the series no, so
this is the second to last one,so then it's play along and then
it's rewind it.
Back is the last one okay.

Fabienne (44:52):
So then my next question is going to be already
answered, because what are yougoing to read next?
This one, yeah, yeah, okay.
I don't have anything lined upfor what I want to read next.

Jordan (45:04):
I overall wouldn't.

Fabienne (45:05):
Maybe I should what.

Jordan (45:09):
If I didn't have this series?
I wouldn't either, but maybeyou add Mile High.
The thing is, I liked Mile milehigh, but then I loved the
right move and do I need to readthose in order?
I mean they are interconnectedstandalones.
But it's kind of nice becauseyou get like, especially the

(45:30):
first two, like you get, becauseindy and V are like best
friends, they meet, so you getlike I don't, I mean I guess not
technically, maybe someconversation probably won't make
sense because things havehappened in a previous book, you
know, come back indirectly in asecond.
She does explain things, likewhen things do come back.

(45:52):
But like I say, like give MileHigh a shot.
Okay, I will Give you the realappreciation for the right move,
but I gotta pat.

Fabienne (46:04):
Well, not necessarily power through is probably too
strong, but you know read my, Idid enjoy joy, okay, fair.
Yeah.
Well, now I have one more addedto my tbr.
Nice, what's one more?
You know what's one more deathby tbr?

(46:25):
You know there's there's worseways to go.
I think there really is.
Yeah, there really is.
Yeah.
Oh wait, you wanted to talkabout like there was something
like drama, like drama happening, or is it not meant like worth
mentioning right now?
not worth mentioning oh, fuck itokay.
Yeah, out of time possibly.
Okay, cool, another time,another time.

Jordan (46:47):
Thank you so much for listening and please don't
forget to rate and reviewwherever you can find us, so
catch you next time bye.
