Food and faith have always been intertwined - from ancient sacred meals to modern Sunday lunch traditions. This delightful episode of Boundless Bible takes you into the personal post-worship dining rituals of hosts David Shapiro, Javi Marquez, and Jason Holloway as they answer the seemingly simple question: "What is your go-to Sunday lunch after church?"

Jason immediately confesses to being an "Indian fanatic," revealing how his family frequents authentic Indian buffets featuring regional specialties so unique he often can't pronounce them. His enthusiasm for these culinary adventures - and occasional Ethiopian alternatives - offers a glimpse into how cultural exploration has become part of his spiritual routine. Meanwhile, Javi shares the relatable struggle of post-church meal indecision, eventually landing on Mexican food, particularly tacos that allow for flexible portion sizes. His story takes a touching turn when he reveals how sharing meals after attending mass with his roommate years ago actually played a role in his faith journey.

In stark contrast, David embraces frugality, skipping restaurants altogether in favor of heading home where he humorously "raids the fridge" - consuming everything from sandwiches to cereal in a post-sermon feast. The episode captures the beautiful intersection of community, tradition, and faith through the lens of something as seemingly ordinary as lunch choices. The hosts' genuine laughter and playful banter (including a joke about Chick-fil-A's famous Sunday closures) create an atmosphere that feels like joining friends around a table.

Whether you're curious about pastors' lives outside the pulpit or looking to connect with the heartwarming traditions that bind faith communities together, this episode serves up spiritual nourishment with a side of genuine human connection. Speaker 1 (00:02):
Welcome to the Boundless Bible.
My name is David Shapiro.
Hey, I'm Javi.

Speaker 2 (00:06):
Marquez and I'm Jason Holloway.
Quick questions with David.
Yeah, here we go, let's do itguys.

Speaker 1 (00:17):
All right, fun one.
What is your go-to Sunday lunchafter church?

Speaker 2 (00:21):
This is so easy for me.
Oh, we are Indian fanatics, noway, oh yeah, yeah, we go to
Indian almost every Sunday, almost every Sunday.
We leave.
You go to an Indian restaurant,we go to an Indian restaurant.
Yeah, oh, wow, yeah, we go toan Indian restaurant.
If it's not Indian, it'sEthiopian.
Those are our two go-tos afterchurch, but it's mostly Indian.
We go to Indian.

Speaker 3 (00:41):
I would never think wow, okay, oh, yeah, can I?

Speaker 1 (00:43):
go as far as to ask what you usually get.

Speaker 2 (00:45):
Oh, that's good so so , believe it or not, this is not
the case in most places.
But we have two buffets and thebuffets are actually better
than most sit-down menus.
Okay, both of them are not thetraditional, like butter chicken
, like tandoori, like it's notthe traditional stuff, it's all

(01:07):
kinds of stuff from all overindia, and so we go there.
There's stuff I can't pronounce, like I know, I know my right,
my way around an indian menu, but there's stuff I've never
heard of and I'll ask the ownerand they'll be like, yeah, this
is like a little town in thesouthwest, so and so, and I'm
like, oh yeah, so we are Indianand occasionally Ethiopian.
That's cool, that's cool yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:26):
Javi, I like the Aramitas.
I'll be honest, we alwaysstruggle to like figure out what
to eat after I.
Always I'm caught up on Sundaysand I go, hey, you pick out
what to eat, and that neverhappens.
So I would say where we like tomaybe, or we always lean
towards, will be maybe Mexicanfood like tacos or something

(01:49):
like that.
Salados, nothing exciting, butsomething quick, something that
we could, you know, not get toofull.
If we get too full, we couldjust stop at.

Speaker 1 (01:59):
Like tacos, right, you could eat one, two, three
whatever it is, and just kind ofstop at two or something.
Yeah, I had tacos.
I had tacos today with withhobby.
How many did I have?

Speaker 2 (02:09):
You had 15.
I would.
I would have had 15 too, me,and you should never go to a
taco restaurant.
Javi, do you know the secret toknowing what your wife wants to
eat when she doesn't know Taco?
No, you tell her honey.

Speaker 1 (02:30):
I'm taking you to your favorite restaurant.
It's a surprise, you know whatit is.
And then, when, whatever shecomes up with, you're like that,
was it?
No way, listen, listen, I'mpreaching here.
I love it, that's good.
Um, I am blessed that mydaughter serves, uh, at, at the
church as well, for all theservices.
Um, so when we are done, um,being the frugal guy that I am,
we don't go out and eat, we gohome.
Um, so, uh, we actually dostarbucks on the way there in
the morning, yeah, um, but onthe way home we go home and

(02:51):
typically she will have a hamand cheese sandwich, um, and I
just raid the fridge and when Isay raid the fridge, everything
that's in there is gone.
I'm eating all of it.
Um, so, whether it is asandwich and then a bowl of
cereal and then some waffles, and then I mean it's going down,
there'll be cheese andpepperoni, that's going to be

(03:12):
gone, it's just whatever's there, it's going down.
So there's no actual restaurantthat I go to, but there's a lot
of eating, there's a lot ofeating, there's a lot of eating.

Speaker 3 (03:29):
Yeah, there's nothing better than a post sermon like
grub if I could share anythingright quick.
One of the biggest things thatkind of led me to christ was
eating after church.
Eating after church, justkidding, so I used to my
roommate was.
My roommate was catholic I wastotally kidding, he was catholic
and we used to go with him tohis mass.
We was like what's this kind ofthing?
What is this, I don't know.
So we used to go with him and Iused to love that after going
to out to eat you know, I justhad my spiritual on.
Now I'm about to go get my grubon you know, it was always cool

(03:50):
.
We go to different spots and wedid it together.
We wake up together early andwe used to go, you know.
So it was like a together thingthat's killer, you know yeah, so
that was one of the things thatI love, which is to eat after
mass or after church.

Speaker 1 (04:03):
Yeah sorry, chick-, chick-fil-a, you do not win out
on this one.

Speaker 2 (04:05):
Well, they can't, they're closed on Sundays
they're closed.

Speaker 1 (04:08):
They did not win on this one which, by the way, on
Father's Day they do give outfree chicken sandwiches.

Speaker 2 (04:12):
Oh, I know where this is going.
I got caught with this joke theother day.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
Oh yeah, Because they're not open, don't give out
free chicken sandwiches onSunday.

Speaker 2 (04:22):
All right guys, another fun one.
Talk to you soon.
Thank you, bye, bye.
