Life throws us curveballs, but it's in the unexpected where we often find our true path. Take my own story, for instance: a stumbling real estate endeavor in Bali that blossomed into a viral poem, sparking the resurgence of this podcast.  I invite you to join me as I reveal how a shift in focus, guided by a shamanic healer at Anima Retreat Center, turned perceived failure into a succession of triumphs. This episode is a transparent look at embracing the universe's mysterious ways, focusing on communication and upliftment, and how it can lead to fulfillment and success beyond what we dared to dream.

Have you ever considered that perhaps your most significant achievements come from pursuing purpose rather than profit? That's what we explore further as I recount the stories that have woven the rich tapestry of my life's work. From an island project that didn't pan out as planned to diving into embracing my human design as manifesting generator, this chapter of my journey underscores the importance of aligning with one's true calling. It demonstrates that meaningful work not only offers personal satisfaction but can also pave the way to financial stability. This conversation illuminates the idea that living a purpose-driven life can yield a deeply satisfying and enviable existence.

Lastly, we tackle the transformative power of Bikram yoga, drawing a parallel between the grueling practice and life's challenges. As a certified instructor, I share how embracing struggle can lead to empowerment and ultimately, to reaching your deepest desires. I open up about my aspirations to become a motivational speaker and how focusing on impact above income has propelled my personal growth. This episode ends with a charge to unleash your potential, confront your fears, and recognize the power of the choices you make today. So join us for an inspirational boost, some stirring poetry, and a reminder that the courage you muster now could lead you to life's most rewarding victories.

Speaker 1 (00:05):
Welcome back to the Broker's Guy in the Room.
This is Chris Kushner.
This episode is entitled GodLaughs when man Plans.
The reason that I chose thattitle is because the one thing
that I've learned about chasingyour dreams, and in this case,

(00:26):
particularly, trying to start abusiness overseas or, I guess,
trying to start a business ingeneral.
But, truth be told, when I stepback and really analyze it,
it's really about trying topursue any plans that you have.
My journey here.
I'm still in Bali.

(00:46):
I'm still here, extended threetimes now, putting tremendous
amounts of pressure on myincredible wife, my incredible
team back home, all of myemployees.
The reality is, you know, I gota real estate construction
project happening out here andit was supposed to be done in

(01:08):
January and it's still not done.
But in analyzing what happenedas a result of my plans not
happening how I planned them, some incredible things went down
.
Some incredible things wentdown.
Had I had my plans happened howthey were supposed to, I never I

(01:33):
never actually would havewritten the poem that went viral
.
I never would have started theshow back up.
I never would have done any ofthese things.
See, all of that was a resultof my plans not working out
Because had my plans worked out,I would have been on a plane
back to the US.
I would have been back in theStates for months.
Now, instead, I stayed here andI chose to.

(01:58):
Here's my belief right.
When your plans don't work outin the theory of God laughs when
man plans, it's because theuniverse and I'll, you know your
faith dependent.
I respect all faiths.
I consider myselfmulti-spiritual, so I'm going to
.
I'm going to say the universeright.
And when your plans don't workout, in my experience, it's

(02:23):
because something higher, something divine, is trying to
tell you that you're supposed tobe looking elsewhere.
And recently I had theincredible experience to go to
Anima Retreat Center, which hasbeen the manifestation project

(02:43):
product, or the product of agood friend of mine's
manifestation, and he was thereason that I originally stayed
on the second trip, turning whatwas supposed to be a month-long
trip into a three-month trip.
He's a shamanic healer, a coach.
I would call him moreaccurately a transformer.

(03:08):
He has the ability and thepedigree to understand and to
know how to take a human being, break them down to their bare
bones and let their dna rewind.
My experience with him was sostrong that, even even though we
didn't perform the ceremoniestogether.
Uh, what he taught me how to dowas the catalyst to everything

(03:34):
that's happened thereafter Baliwith a pedigree and a dream, and
not a lot of money, because, atleast from what I can, from
what I'm assuming I'm making alot of assumptions here but the
impression I got is that hespent most of his life savings

(03:59):
developing this incrediblepedigree and his goal in life
was to be a person who couldoffer transformations to other
human beings, and he wanted tohave a retreat center.
And so when he came to bali, hehad this in mind that he was
going to find it.
He was going to find it, he wasgoing to find it and he went to
a temple in ubud, here, whichis, which is somewhat of an

(04:21):
epicenter of the island, and heultimately manifested that he
would have this retreat center.
A couple weeks later, he getsinvited to a party and at that
party he would meet somebody who, without him realizing it, he'd

(04:42):
leave a mark on.
About a week later, he wouldget a call from this person and
she tells him that you know, sheknows these two people who have
this incredible property in themiddle of the jungle and they
want to turn it into a retreatcenter.
Sebastian puts together abusiness plan, pitches them.
Next thing you know, he's a 50%shareholder in a place like I'd

(05:06):
never seen before.
So I went to check the place out.
While I'm here, he sograciously invited me to come
stay for a couple nights and inthat he also graciously offered
to do some work with me.
Graciously offered to do somework with me, some of the work
he does and so we analyzedeverything from my numerology to

(05:37):
my Chinese astrology, and a lotof it told the tale of not only
what was happening to me rightnow, but also what I should do
looking forward.
Happening to me right now, butalso what I should do looking
forward.
And essentially in my case, Iwas born on the year of the rat
and this is the year of thedragon.
The dragon is a friend sign tothe rat, which would indicate

(05:58):
that this would be a year that Icould be successful at
something.
My numerology would reveal thatI need to focus on my voice and
my ability to communicate, touplift people, and what's
happened has been essentially asort of a viral explosion for me

(06:22):
, from my poetry leading to thispodcast and, of course, all of
the poetry, every episode wasinspired by the poem that I read
at the end of it and leaninginto all this, the ultimate

(06:43):
result of it is that I've beenpushed to do things that I
otherwise would have never daredto do, and each little success
led to each greater success.
And here I stand.
You know, it's remarkable to meto think that right now, today,

(07:08):
this human being is living afantasy.
And it was in the not sodistant past that my entire life
was falling apart, that I wasconvinced that there was no
dreams that I would ever pursueagain, that I had become a

(07:31):
tragic failure.
And yet some things wouldhappen that would change my
perspective on that situation, and that would change my
perspective on that situation, and that would change my
behavior.
And that change in behaviorwould change everything in my

(07:51):
life.
And, as a result, now I'm doingthings I never dreamed of.
Perhaps I did in secret, but ina very short period of time, I
went from a human being whowould have desperately and
eagerly traded skins with anyother person on the planet to a

(08:14):
person who, stubbornly, wouldnot trade skins with anyone on
the planet.
Sure, there's people who gotplenty of money, there's people
who have plenty of money, there's people who have whatever
, but I can tell you that I ammadly in love with life, with
myself, and that I am 100% inthe direct pursuit of my dreams

(08:40):
and my absolute purpose, and itis an incredible feeling Purpose
truly is the cure fordepression.
I spoke about this in the lastepisode and every day that

(09:02):
passes I become a bit obsessiveover a few things, a few
decisions that I could have madedifferently, that would have
made all the difference, orrather, a few decisions that I
did make that did make all thedifference.
Depending on your perspective, staying inside your comfort zone

(09:26):
is a death sentence.
I was talking to a friend ofmine earlier, my friend Jesse
Lubner.
He's down in Pittsburgh andhe's contemplating, you know,
starting his own business, chasing his dreams, and, as the
universe works, it would directme to give him a phone call on

(09:47):
this particular evening and he'stelling me his circumstances
and saying, you know, he doesn'tknow what to do.
He doesn't know what to do andI'm all but certain no, I am
certain of what he needs to do,based on the information he
provided with me and also basedon the information that I'm just

(10:09):
aware of about the Americaneconomy and about the future to
come.
Call it a gut intuition, callme crazy if you want, but call
me back in two years and seewho's the crazy one.
And it's funny how things workout.

(10:32):
You know it's not funny becausethere really are no
coincidences, there really areno mistakes.
What I've learned, and kind ofyou know, in the spirit of what
started the song, I had a planfor what was supposed to happen

(10:53):
here.
I came here to execute thatplan based on information that
that plan was executable in thetimeline that I had provided.
When I got here, I realizedthat plan was not executable in
that timeline.
What I could have done in thatmoment was to get upset, to try

(11:20):
and force it to happen in thattimeline, to just ride it out or
to go home.
I chose to ride it out and bereceptive to whatever else was
coming Because, again, this iswhat I believe.
I truly believe that when thishappens, right, you set out a

(11:42):
plan and you're dead set.
This is what I'm going to do,this is when I'm going're dead
set, this is what I'm going todo, this is when I'm going to do
it, this is how I'm going to doit and then you try to do it
and boom not possible.
I don't believe that.
That's when you try and enforceyour will on the universe.
To me, that's the moment whenyou go what am I not seeing?

(12:06):
What am I supposed to see?
In my case, it was that I wassupposed to soak in the
inspiration that this island hasto offer, which I did, and I
have been a creative waterfallever since, and the good people

(12:28):
of Indonesia have been soreceptive of that creativity
that it has changed my lifeforever.
Again seems to happen everytime I come here.
And you know what I love it,because every time it changes my
life, I'm empowered with theability to change other people's

(12:50):
lives.
And it's damn remarkable, youknow, because I found there is
no greater reward.
Money is no longer themotivating factor, and that's
why I do not envy people whohave 10 times more money than me
.
I don't give a damn about money.

(13:13):
Money's no more significant tome than is a hammer, screwdriver
or saw.
It is a means to an end.
It is a resource to use toaccomplish an objective, and the
objective is what I care aboutwhat's yours?
Because I can tell you that myobjective and my mission in this

(13:36):
life Is to use this short timethat I have here To make this
world a better place, and mymethod to doing that is by
empowering and uplifting everyhuman being that I come into
contact with to the best of myability and to the best of
possibility given the situation, and I can tell you that finding

(14:01):
that purpose and being true toit and being dedicated to it has
eliminated my fear of financialloss.

(14:23):
The moment I set sights on mypurpose was the same moment that
the finances started to figurethemselves out.
When I needed to do something, and it was something that would
leave a positive impact on thisplanet, the money found me, and

(14:45):
it continues to do so, and so myadvice to anybody looking
forward right now is that don'tmake your goals about how much
you want to make a year.
Make your goals about what markcan you to make a year.
Make your goals about what markcan you leave on the planet,

(15:09):
what truly speaks to you andwhat can you truly offer to make
a damn difference.
Because I promise you themoment that your progress is
aligned with your purpose.
That's where the magic's goingto happen for you.

(15:30):
I don't care if you're 60.
I don't care if you're 20.
I don't care if you're 12.
The moment that your progresslines up with your purpose, the
moment that your progress linesup with your purpose, you will

(15:56):
find a way and you will realizea life that people will envy.
Life is an incredible thing andit is beautiful.
And when you live a life ofpurpose and daily you are
working towards that purpose, and that purpose is a positive
one.
Oh man, every day is acelebration.
Every second is an opportunity.
There is no such thing as work, there is only play.

(16:21):
That's why one of the things Isay to people is you know, my
grand aspiration in life is togrow up, to be a child.
What I mean by that is thateverything is play, because I'm
so madly in love with what I do,and I'm so madly in love with

(16:41):
what I do because of what itdoes for other people.
And the moment I made thatconscious choice, the moment I
made that shift, everythingshifted for me.
And I can tell you why I dothis show is because I strongly

(17:03):
believe that every human beingshould have the opportunity to
feel how I feel every day, ifnot just for a moment, and so
whatever I can do to empower anyother human being on the planet
Towards that feeling I'm goingto do.

(17:25):
And the moment I started doingthat, the universe seemed to do
the same for me.
And that was not the case goingforward.
If you know me, you know mylife has not been easy.
Someone said to me earlier todayuh, that they this is in

(17:50):
regards to human design.
Okay, now, if you're unfamiliarwith human design, human design
is a fascinating science.
It I would describe it as theevolution of astrology, and it's
largely based on theunderstanding of neutrinos,
which are the smallest particlesknown to man, which come from

(18:10):
the sun pasturus, and humandesign studies their impact on
us.
At the moment we're conceived.
So if you take somebody's exacttime, date and location of
birth, from that you should beable to generate their human
design.
And their human design, atleast in my experience, is

(18:33):
incredibly accurate towardstheir personalities and their
choices and the choices theywill make, often even more
accurate than a person's ownunderstanding of themselves.
Now, if you study my humandesign, I'm a manifest generator
and it means exactly what itsounds like.

(18:53):
It means that I'm like anengine and that when I'm
confident about something, I cangenerate that manifestation and
make it real.
And the person who first taughtme about human design.
Her name's Kali.
She said to me earlier todaythat anything I start will

(19:21):
succeed.
Anything I start will succeed.
And this was in response toconversation about her wanting
to start her own business, andshe indicated that, based on her
design, anything she startswithout invitation will
automatically fail, and thatthis would be impossible for me
to understand because, as amanifest generator, anything I

(19:44):
start will ultimately succeed.
And you know, this kind of gaveme a chuckle.
My response was nope, noteverything.
And I think she was shocked torealize that the secret to my
success was not that everythingsucceeded, it's that I took 10
more swings than anyone else.

(20:05):
If I'm lucky, one out of 10succeeds.
I just try a whole lot more.
You know that's the secretsauce and I guess you could say
from my design.
I'm able to do that because Idon't fear the failure.
I see each failure asinevitable and as a step in the

(20:28):
way on my road to success.
I know I'm going to fail and Ilook forward to failing, because
every time I fail I learnsomething, and what I learn
makes me a little bit more adepton the next attempt, and that's

(20:49):
why, eventually, you succeed, because after you failed so many
damn times, you've learned somuch that what else are you
going to do.
That doesn't mean that afteryou fail enough times, you're
going to succeed at everything.
Hell, no, not unless you keepdoing the same damn thing.

(21:11):
But as long as you're tryingnew things, as long as you're on
that path, failure is a part ofit and it's something to be
embraced.
I mentioned Jesse earlier.
When I was talking to him, youknow he let out.
He was like it's amazing howyou do it.
It's like you're not afraid,and my response was I'm
terrified.

(21:31):
I'm absolutely terrified.
The difference is is that Ihave come to identify that fear
and discomfort is where thegrowth is.
One of the things tattooed onmy arm I've said this before is
all good things are born ofdiscomfort.
It's one of my favorite phrases, and so when I'm afraid, when I

(21:55):
identify something thatterrifies me, that's where I'm
headed, because I know that'swhere the magic is.
Yeah, I'm headed Because I knowthat's where the magic is.
Yeah, I'm terrified.
Right now I'm in the other sideof the world, as far away from
home as I can go before I startcoming back.
I've got a wife, a daughter,three dogs, three businesses,

(22:21):
two rentals, three dogs, threebusinesses, two rentals, two
ferrets and two fish tanks Threefish tanks.
It's a lot of crap and that'sobviously not everything, but
it's a lot of crap and I'm goingbroke over here as I try to

(22:46):
fund this real estate projectand start a new company over
here.
I am stretched to my max.
I am damn uncomfortable.
But I see something.
I see something at the end ofthis road that is so attractive

(23:08):
to me that I am willing to chaseit until I frigging collapse,
no matter what it takes.
Yeah, and I'll tell you thiswhen I get there, I'm going to
look back and I ain't going toregret a single drop of sweat

(23:30):
that I shed Not one.
I will appreciate and thankevery drop of sweat that I shed
Everyone.
Yeah, that's what it is to chaseyour dreams.
Nothing good on this planet, nothing worth having, will ever

(23:51):
come to you easy, and the thingsworth having the most will come
to you the hardest.
That's the damn truth Of allthe things I've learned in this
life.
That's.
That's the damn truth Of allthe things I've learned in this
life.
That's one of the truest I havebecome.

(24:12):
So grateful for all thechallenges in my life, all of
the burdens, all of the failures, all of the blunders.
I was telling my story tosomebody I met in the grocery
store and I was on the dark partof the story and they looked at

(24:34):
me and they said, god, I'm sosorry.
And I said, don't be, I'm not, because if any one of those
things hadn't happened, if youchange any single thing on that
journey, I would not be standinghere today telling you the
story that I have to tell, telling you the story that I

(24:57):
have to tell.
And so I am so damn gratefulfor every single bit of it,
every single bit.
I am so damn grateful for everysingle bit.
There's a clip on TikTok that'sviral, that you know it's.

(25:17):
The long and short of it is theguy says you know, I used to
get upset when things happen tome and I would say why me?
And then one day I realized whynot me?
Because I'm built for this.
And that's exactly it.
You know, you learn toappreciate all of the tests that
have come your way, because allof the tests that have come

(25:39):
your way have made you strongenough to withstand them and to
take on greater tasks and now Istand here feeling like a piece
of iron because of all of thetimes I've been broken and got
back up.
Yeah, I'm grateful, I'mgrateful and I am dedicated to

(26:07):
looking for those tests becausenow I know, however hard they
may be, the reward for survivingthem will be greater.
Being a big room yoga instructorit's the same thing.

(26:28):
Joe Rogan had Kevin Hart on hisshow and he was talking about
high yoga, about big room yoga,on his show, and he was talking
about high yoga, about Bikramyoga, and uh, you know this is
also known as 26 and two.
Uh, bikram's a bitcontroversial, but that's what
it is.
26 and two, bikram yoga, highyoga, it's all the same, it's

(26:49):
the same.
26 exercises, 26 postures withtwo different breathing
exercises, one in the front, onein the back and what Joe Rogan
said on his show was that, youknow, for 90 minutes, it's just
me, a jug of water and a bunchof grandmas kicking my ass.
And he said it's the hardestthing he's ever done and he said

(27:10):
it changed his life.
I would repeat all of thosephrases.
That has been my experience,100%, which is why I chose to go
through and get certified, because it's remarkable.
Really, it's an exact metaphorfor everything I've been talking
about in this episode.
You go through hell for 90minutes and the moment it's over

(27:34):
and you're laying on your backin Savasana and you just get it
and all of a sudden the rewardsettles in and none of it
matters what came before.
You just feel so damn good andthat's why it's life changing.

(27:55):
But ultimately, for me, that isthe metaphor to living a life
of empowerment and fulfillment.
You are supposed to go throughhell to get the things that you.

(28:15):
You are supposed to go throughhell to get the things that you
really really want.
But before you do that, youbest be damn sure that you know
what you really want, becauseyou don't want to go through
hell for the wrong thing.
And that is possible.
Just because it's difficultdoesn't mean it's right.
That is also noteworthy.

(28:36):
It's when it aligns with yourpurpose, and in order to do that
, you have to clearly identifyyour purpose.
Now, for a lot of people thisis difficult because that
purpose that they might seemight scare the ever-living shit
out of them and it might seemout of reach.
That was the case with me.
I always knew I wanted to be amotivational speaker, a

(29:00):
motivator.
I wanted to help lift people up.
I wanted to be like TonyRobbins, you know.
But that's not a master'sprogram, that's not a major that
you can just take in collegeand I never would tell this

(29:22):
dream to anyone.
But at some point in my lifethey started telling it to me.
Slowly but surely, I started tohave the faith and the
confidence to start going after.
What I saw was impossible.
And the moment I made it notabout money and the moment I

(29:45):
made it about how I could leavea positive impact on this planet
, how I could uplift andstrengthen other human beings,
how I could help them find theirpower, that was the moment that
everything started lining upfor me.
Now, lining up doesn't mean itgot easy.
It forced me into some of themost uncomfortable situations

(30:06):
I've been in in my life, butthat caused me to grow more than
I could have ever imagined inmy life.
So if I'm going to tell youanything, I'm going to close
this episode out and just tellyou that it's worth it.
Why not throw up the Hail, mary?

(30:29):
Why not chase your dreams?
Because if you choose not to,you already failed at it anyway.
So if you're willing to justaccept the worst case scenario.
Think about it.
Sounds a little silly when yousay it out loud, doesn't it?
But the truth is, if you don'ttry, you already failed, so take

(30:54):
a shot.
Try.
You already failed, so take ashot.
With that, I'm going to closeon something I just recently
wrote.
It's called the Choices we Make.
I thought that I was done, thought I had nothing left.
He hit me with the right, butthen I hit him with the left.
Everyone had me discounted.

(31:16):
Now he's down and gettingcounted and I stand with my
hands raised with my summitbeing mounted.
Life changes in an instant, andthen, instantly, we change.
Suddenly, we grow familiar withthe things we thought were
strange.
Then, all of a sudden, we areplaying a completely different

(31:37):
game and confidence is born froma parent known as shame.
This is called being reborn.
This is a person's evolutionwhen the reflection in the
mirror appears withoutconvolution.
We are so magnificent, but theywill tell us that we're not Yet

(31:57):
.
They can't deny the moment whenwe show them all we've got.
So take that.
Swing beyond the fences, because it might be your home
run.
You've got more power thanyou've ever dreamed.
You truly are the one.
You felt anxious, you feltfearful, but behind it there is
courage, and when you find it,you'll find something that no

(32:21):
one can discourage.
This is your time.
This is your chance.
This moment is for you.
You can give into yournightmares or you can make your
dreams come true.
You can stay within yourcomfort or you can take the
chance to grow, but when itcomes time to harvest, you can

(32:44):
only reap that which you sow,the choices we make.
Until next time, my friends, with endless love and gratitude,
this is Chris Kushnier, namaste.
