Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on cater It's Australia's home of hip hop and
R and B, and we are doing the six Degrees
of Music artists. If you missed this last week, we
are celebrating the man, the legend himself, Bob Marley. Were
brand new movie coming out, Bob Marley One Love, coming
exclusively to cinemas, and we thought we'd find out how
Bob Marley connects to Australian music and the culture here
through Six Degrees of Artists. So we started off with
(00:23):
the man himself, Bob Marley. We had our guy b Wisend.
We now have Ca Sarah joining us to the show.
Who are you bringing in? What's your connection? What's your
degree of separation?
Speaker 2 (00:32):
Well, I think you can't go past the mother of
five of Bob Marley's grandchildren, his daughter in law, the
iconic Lauren Hill.
Speaker 1 (00:41):
You gotta have her and then, you know, I don't
even realize how many actual family relations she had to
Bob Marley.
Speaker 2 (00:48):
Yeah, yeah, five of course. And I think it really
interesting because of course we know her from the Fuji's originally,
and they did the incredible cover No Woman, No Crime
the Fuji's.
Speaker 1 (00:57):
Yes, that was beautiful beautiful.
Speaker 2 (00:59):
Cover there, So who knew that it would be Ron
Marley who would help mentor broken Heart after the relationship
with y Cliff and the Fuji's disbanded. The Miss Education
of Lauren Hill, the incredible album that still resonates with
artists today, is still one of the artists. When I
ask people you know each evening, particularly the young female
(01:20):
artists on the show, you know who they're inspired by
and who they would most like to make an album with.
Nine times out of ten you will hear them say
Lauren Hill.
Speaker 1 (01:29):
Still to this day, she is such an influential artist,
especially like you say, for females in the industry. How
do you think her life with the family and all
of that influenced her music.
Speaker 2 (01:39):
First of all, Bob Marley are passed by the time
she started dating Roll Marley, but she did do some
posthumous jewets with Bob Marley. I think as an artist,
one of my favorite quotes in hip hop is a
Dougie Fresh quote which she encomverters perfectly, which is at
our best, we educate on a higher level and we
promote positive change through music, and I think nobody encompasses
(02:00):
that more than Lauren Hill. The other thing I wanted
to clear up. I thought one of the very interesting
ones was the reason why she sometimes remixes her songs
in concert. So many people have said to me, oh,
it's because she has publishing issues, and she says, no,
that is an absolute myth. She does it because she's
a creative and she likes she doesn't want to play
the same songs all the time so that she'd be
(02:21):
too bort.
Speaker 1 (02:22):
That's such an interesting thing because we chat to artists
quite a bit in the studio and one of the
questions is, if you've had a song that has surpassed
so long, how do you still feel that same energy
and vibe performing it every single night or every single performance.
And I think that's a really interesting part from Lauren
Hill as keeping creative, which is what you see in
the hip hop and R and B industry here in Australia.
(02:44):
You've got to keep pushing yourself to be creative.
Speaker 2 (02:46):
And elw which she has done incredibly and I think
such a wonderful role model for our young artists. Miss Hill, We've.
Speaker 1 (02:53):
Got a missal now. If you want to hear a
little bit of her cover of Bob Marley, here's a
little taste of it here and oh it is such
a vibe. One man, one message, one revolution, one legend.
Bob Marley, One Love is coming exclusively to cinemas and
(03:13):
we are doing a six degrees of music artists to
get you there. Listen to all episodes on the Cat podcast,
