Speaker 1 (00:00):
You're on cater It's Australia's home of hip hop and

(00:02):
R and B, and we are doing the six Degrees
of Music artists to celebrate the man himself, Bob Marley.
What a legend. He's got his movie Bob Marley One
Love coming exclusively to cinemas and to celebrate we are
connecting that man all the way to Australia through six
Degrees of music Artists. Now we started with Bob, We've
gone on to Lauren Hill. I've got Ziggi with us

(00:22):
in the studio.

Speaker 2 (00:23):
D Day Veg.

Speaker 1 (00:24):
Now you are going to bring a connection from Lauren
Hill a little bit closer, a little bit more modern.
Get him here, yea.

Speaker 2 (00:29):
One hundred percent. It's someone that's been in the industry
and still here today doing his thing. He goes by
the name of jay Z and legend in the game,
still relevant to today, which is not normal for many
rappers today, you know what I mean. So, but hey,
look he's influenced and you see the influenced chain like
he actually shouted out Lawrence Hill when he got inducted

(00:49):
into the Songwriter Hall of Fame. He said thank you
to her and a whole bunch of other artists. He
went on a twinter ran. But it's funny because jay
Z he doesn't even write his own lyrics.

Speaker 1 (00:58):
How do you not write a lyric?

Speaker 2 (01:00):
And that's not on some drake thing that's his own.
He doesn't write him by literally, he doesn't write him.
He puts it in his head. It spits off the top,
you know what I mean. So to be in the
songwriter Hall of Fame for not actually writing your own lyrics,
that's pretty crazy.

Speaker 1 (01:13):
That's very influential, I'd say for artists, young artists coming
up and being like, hey, if you don't want to
have to write down everything, jay Z's out there being like, nah,
if you feel it, if you've got it in your head,
put it.

Speaker 2 (01:23):
Out there hundred percent. And you see the influence that
he's had on hip hop, you know what I mean.
Just whole years have gone past, He's been through errors,
you know what I mean, from the early nineties to
then the two thousands to now even right now still
dropping albums. He's dropped over twelve albums, over fifty million worldwide.
Sould crazy, that's huge.

Speaker 1 (01:42):
What do you reason is your favorite part about him
influencing the music culture nowadays.

Speaker 2 (01:47):
I think it's like him being authentic to himself and
staying true to himself. That's what's helped him still be
relevant because he's not talking about what he talked about
twenty years ago. He's talking about what's relevant to him now.
If he's dropping it album now. As a as a fan,
you're maturing with him, and he's taking his audience on
the ride with him and his journey. And you've seen
him come from wrap Off selling records out of the street,

(02:09):
out of the back of his cars, and now a
billion billionaire literally the first hip hop Yeah, and it's crazy.
And then the power couple him and him and Beyonce crazy,
the records that they hold together, Grammys over eighty eight nominations.
Who's going to stop them?

Speaker 1 (02:25):
You know, it's so interesting you mentioned authenticity because when
we had Bee Wis and a couple of weeks ago
starting this whole thing off with Bob Marley, the thing
he spoke about was authenticity of Bob Marley. And I
think that's such a common occurrence of the great is
their authenticity to themselves and their work. So for jay Z,
like you say, we grow up with him, we've gone

(02:47):
through him being on the streets with all the girlfriends,
to him sittling down, having a wife, like loving his family.
That's such an interesting influence in such a cool thing.
Jay Z number three on the list of six Degrees
of News artists. Join us next week to see who
is next. How we get close to Australia. It is
one man, one message, one revolution, one legend, Bob Marley,

(03:07):
one love, coming exclusively to cinemas. You can check out
