Knights of the Hi Folks. Welcome back to the Carolina Storyteller.
I am your storyteller, Jonathan Phoenix. As we said in
the intro, this week we're talking about vampires again, only
this time we're talking about the creatures that are technically
(01:20):
vampires but existed technically before vampires existed, which means they're
pre vampires. And this could be how a lot of
the fictional material that we have when it comes to
vampires got so confused. And my lure is as different
as it is from what we see in modern media
(01:43):
looking at you, Twilight. But before we get to that,
I just want to remind everybody that next month, May
third and fourth, we are going to be going to
Atomic Con. It's going to be held May third and
fourth at the Trident Technical College Conference Center in North Charleston,
South Carolina. It's gonna be panels, there's gonna be authors
(02:03):
to vendors, constantly contest, more podcasters. Valmont is going to
be playing it's episode seven table read there right after
episode six hopefully releases, because we're still behind on four
and five right now, but we're hoping to have episode
six out so you guys will get to actually listen
to the table read live there with some of the
creators of Valmont. I'm going to be there, Adam is
(02:25):
going to be there. I'm pretty sure the Vampire Queen
is going to be there. Stevie's going to be there.
Lots of people from the cast are going to be there,
just to be there and get with people who love
the show so much. So don't forget Atomic on May
thirty fourth, try It Technical College Conference Center, North Charleston.
Be there, but don't see you there we're going to
have a problem. We really are. And as always, remember
(02:47):
that you can support this show and my other shows
by going to Patreon dot com forward the Carolina Storyteller
all kinds of goodies there. You can just support Valmont
if you want, for as low as a dollar a month,
or you can support everything for as loo as three
dollars a month. We have tears going all the way
up to ten dollars. So come on over, join the
(03:08):
club and be part of the real cool kids as
we discuss all the spooky and scary stuff. Now that
I've plugged all the plugs that I'm going to plug today,
well let's get into the show. Let's get into what
we're talking about. The past couple of episodes, I've been
talking about vampires. First, we talked about what vampires actually are,
(03:29):
and those, of course are creatures technically from Eastern Europe,
the vampire. The word vampire originated in Eastern Europe around
the fourteenth fifteenth century. There were actually people who were
accused of being vampires who died and then mysteriously came back.
You could actually have a kid with a vampire. Vampires
(03:51):
were defined by looking kind of dead, I mean they
still had like a decent appearance if they had a
decent appearance human, but they had that deadish hue to them. Now, granted,
I know some people that are alive today that have
that deadish shoe to them, and I know some vampires
that are alive today that kind of don't. I mean,
(04:14):
maybe they're using really good makeup. I don't know, but
technically you're supposed to kind of look blue and dead
because you're dead when you're a vampire, or at least
dead by human standards. But these things, they're from Eastern Europe.
Now they're weak against garlic. Well, they can be religious
(04:35):
artifacts can have some hold on them. The only way
to kill them is really get rid of the heart,
get rid of the head, and of course bury them
in you know, curse of ground. You can drive stakes
through their hands and pete kind of keep them the casket.
But usually, you know, they're kind of, you know, they're
(04:55):
kind of the thing that they're kind of like cockroaches.
They keep coming back. Not to say the vampire like cockroaches. Jackie,
don't come hunting me down. I'm not saying that. I'm
just saying, you know, cockroach just keep coming back. Vampires
technically keep coming back until you do that, you know.
And apparently vampires can have children, and they're called drafnirs
(05:18):
or vompiers, and they're half blooded vampires, which means they
could become vampires later in life or they could live
a perfectly normal life. And apparently it's male and female vampires.
They can have kids. So again there's a lot to
take in there. But that's just the Eastern European vampire. Now,
if you look in the media, there's all kinds of
(05:39):
different things. Vampires have rules. They can't come into your
house unless you let them into your house. Well that's
not technically a thing. What the Eastern European vampire. So
we've got to look at some of the other things.
And granted I could go through the list, there are
hundreds of them. I'm just going to start reading off
names and stop real quick. But we're in the middle
(05:59):
of the right here, and we've got the Polus to
pop In Jowari, the Pozzoli, the Peletski, the Pentagon, Peter Bravovich,
which was an actual vampire from the patchun To Paroli, Romania, India,
the lem the Pistacio or pistaco Kishtako. I don't know
(06:20):
how to pronounce all these names. The Rakshasha in India,
run manga in Madagastar revenants in England, the second Met
in Egypt. I think sec Met is actually a warrior goddess,
but technically she's sposted as a vampire. I don't know
why Sigbin the snelly gaster in America. I could go
(06:41):
on and on for hours, but I'm not. Instead of
what I'm going to do is I'm going to take
a select view from around the world that shows that
vampire creatures actually predate vampires by a long time. And
the first place I'm going to go is to the Philippines.
And that is because because, as I said, during the
(07:01):
fourteenth and fifteenth century, Eastern Europeans were talking about vampires.
Well in the sixteenth century, when the Spanish got over
to the Philippines, they had to hear about this guy.
This guy, And I'm gonna try and get the name right.
Don't yell, let me if I get it wrong. It's
called the Aswang and he is a shape shifting bloodsucker
(07:23):
of Filipino lore dating back hundreds of years before the
Spanish showed up and met the Philippines. This creature had
the ability to assume a pleasing shape in order to
draw on its prey, and then of course that little
thing right there that sticks out of its mouth would
be used to lash on in some blood from its enemies.
(07:44):
It was not necessarily considered to be a spirit, but
it had to be the ability to change its shape.
It was very tricky to catch one because it could
disguise itself as a human in the day, prowl out
in the open for human victims as it interacted with them.
It's considered to be both a vampire and a wear beast,
(08:06):
which is really weird because I don't think it counts
as one of those. But still it's a scary thing
to think. You're a Spanish sailor, you come over there,
you've never heard of these things, and then all of
a suddenly they tell you, oh, yeah, we got this
thing that runs around. It looks like a human most
of the time, but it's got this weird tongue that
comes out and it will suck your blood beast on
you for a meal. That had to be scary, And
(08:29):
so there we are, though we're going back hundreds of
years before Eastern European vampires. No, granted, this is not
necessarily a vampire, but it fits the characteristics. And if
you'll remember in the movie Blade Too, when they made
those vampires and mouths came open, they had thosettle tongue
things that came out very similar to the ass Wang. Now,
(08:50):
the next one we've got coming up is going to
be interesting. It is from Bolivia. And trying to get
this one up, give me a second because for some
reason it's showing a bunch of ads on the screen
all of a suddenly, Now this guy from Bolivia. Let's
(09:11):
take a look at him real quick. Please, let's see
if I can get his picture up real quick, do
abot you Nope, got to scroll up a little bit.
This guy's from Bolivia. He predates the ass Wing, or
possibly around the same date. As I said, that legend
(09:31):
is a few hundred years old when the Spanish guys
got there. This one dates back to around the twelfth
century and Bolivia where the natives believes that this guy
was prowling around and it doesn't he just look creepy
as can be. I mean, honestly, I wouldn't want this
guy prowling around my neighborhood. Again, his characteristics were as
(09:58):
you see here. He had a large ears to form
features of course the things, and he drank the blood
of the living to survive. He would try to lure
them in with songs and things like that. You know,
he was a weird creature. He is called and again
the ab chan Chue of that empire, yeb chan Chu.
(10:24):
He had shating abilities as well, and you know, of
course they've all got shave shitting ability. And this guy
is predating vampires in Europe by now another couple of
hundred years. It may be the same thing time as
the Ashwank. I'm not exactly sure, but again we're getting
further and further in history with different vampires or vampiric creatures. Now,
(10:48):
before we go too far back, I want to bounce
over to America, because America actually had one that was
technically around the same time as the Eastern European one.
And we've already talked about this girl before. But let
me reintroduce you to the boo Hag. That's right, the
(11:10):
Boohg dates back to the early sixteenth the late sixteenth
and early seventeenth centuries. Now, remember, if we're talking about America.
Fourteen ninety two, it was discovered the stories of the
Boohag were transferred from the Gullah culture which formed here
in America. And these stories are about a woman who
(11:33):
preyed upon the energy and the life force of the
men who lived out in the woods. You would shed
her skin and you know, climb into your wood. That
you had to put brooms and or rice in front
of your door because the only way to keep her
from getting to you was to distract her. And of
course she couldn't go past something that needed to be
(11:53):
counted without counting. There who hags famous story around here.
People tell stories all the time of the boo Hags.
There are even there is even history and culture surrounding
them that still goes on to this day because people
honestly believe in these things, or at least their culture
(12:14):
still believes in these things. I'm not going to say
they honestly believe in them. Now. I don't have an
image for this next one, but I do want to
talk about it, and that is the Bantu subble. This
one comes from India and it's considered a vampiric revenant
that also has commands over dogs that lures humans into
(12:36):
the jungle and then the dogs attack, kill the play
and the Bantu Serbero then drinks up the blood from
the corpses. Now, these date back to almost the seven hundreds.
Now there's no really description of what they are because
supposedly they command the dogs. But it begins to get
very interesting when you start considering just how powerful these
(13:02):
creatures must be. Now, I know what you're saying, John,
You've taken us to you've taken us to South America,
you've taken us to the Philippines, you've taken us back
to America, and then you've taken us to India. But
where did you find the oldest vampiric creature on record? Well,
(13:24):
believe it or not, the oldest vampiric creature on record
comes from the Abrahamic religions. And that's because she's dated
back almost ten ten to fifteen thousand years ago. And
that is Lilith herself, because she, after leaving Eden, reportedly
(13:45):
became the first succubi. And the succubi are apparently, in
most lore considered to be beautiful. But for some reason,
that's not what Christianity wanted to see. See, this is
(14:09):
what a skibus is supposed to look like. Sukubists are
supposed to be deformed in some way. And what's weird
is that the images that we get of them today
in modern well, I mean, let me just see if
I can bind an image real quick. Yeah, we're gonna
We're gonna share this tab instead. This is the image
(14:32):
that we're currently seeing of the sakkubus. This is what
she currently looks like this. This is your suckulist right here,
Ladies and gentlemen, the wings and everything like that. But
that's not what they originally wanted you to see. See.
(14:54):
The Church wanted you to think when ssuchubises look like this,
and believe it or not, the lure actually is in
between the two suki busses were slightly deformed women. They
required the life force of a man, and in some
instances they required the man life force if you know
(15:18):
what I'm saying. If you don't know what I'm saying,
you're too young for this podcast, I'm sorry. Suki busses
would appear as extremely beautiful and attractive women, and some
had some stories said that they had the powers of sirens, which,
if you know what a siren is. They're these creatures
that are out in the ocean that would sing to
(15:39):
sailors to draw them towards the rocks so that when
the ship hit the rocks and the ship sank, the
sirens could feast on the sailors. Suki bus has had
that power to sing you to them, and then they
would lure them into bed where they would get what
they needed from the man. Some say that they lived
(16:00):
off the power of orgasms basically, and that the man
was required to do some things with the where the
penguins live, if you know what I mean. He had
to go down down to the penguins and have that
tongue game going in order to satiate the sucivist and
Sucuitbists would keep the men in there for hours and
hours and basically drained them of all their energy to
(16:23):
give them energy. They got their energy from the interaction
that they were having with men. Might know one or
two of those might be living with one. I might
be in danger. Help But anyway, the Sucuitist states, back,
(16:43):
like I said, thousands of years and this is the
first vampiric creature on record technically because it dates back
technically before the Greeks introduced the imposa, which was their
first vampire creature, and it only dates back about four
(17:04):
thousand years ago, so that's pretty much it. I mean,
why why does the law say that, well, sucky businesses
are technically h This's the point I wanted to get
to Twilight. I know everybody looks at Twilight and they
(17:27):
go the vampire sparkle. Well, I hate to tell you, guys,
but suckubuses technically sparkled so that incubuses they were able
to adjust their appearance to appear beautiful and adorned with
jewels if they needed to, because technically they were all deformed.
(17:49):
And that was the big thing, is that if you
looked close enough, you could see the deformity, but you
were usually too dazzled by the beauty to notice it.
And by the time you did notice it, you're already
in bed doing the bomb to a wampomp or whatever.
And the succubist was getting what it wants. And that
explains Twilight vampires, which means that those should not have
(18:13):
been read by young people. Honestly, really don't ever what
the was that lady thinking. Anyway, folks, that's it for
my series. On vampires. I hope you found it interesting.
I hope you guys were entertained, and I hope you
know a little bit more about the lore that traces
back thousands of years on VAMPIRENT creatures. Now, granted, there
(18:35):
are hundreds of VAMPIRENT creatures out there, and I could
probably do two hundred and fifty episodes alone just on
VAMPIRENT creatures, and I might just particularly on creatures like
the Succubists, which the legends surrounding the succubists are so
many and so vague. Let's just get another look at
what some of these images of the succubists look like,
(19:00):
and if I can pull this up because you know
this is me trying to share this image again, but
let's just get another look at the female demon known
as the sucubus. There she is once more, Ladies and gentlemen. Yeah,
it's probably a reason why they didn't talk about that anymore. Anyway,
