Ever notice how your resolve seems strongest in the morning, only to fade as the day progresses? By evening, that glass of wine beckons as the perfect solution to your exhaustion. But what if there's a better way to honor your nighttime needs?

This episode unpacks the truth that many women miss: your evening self isn't weak or working against you—she's simply carrying the accumulated weight of your day. Through a faith-centered approach to understanding these evening struggles, you'll discover that alcohol isn't the comfort you're truly seeking.

I share three transformative strategies that have helped countless Catholic women reclaim their evenings without wine. You'll learn how to create sacred evening rituals that invite both physical and spiritual peace, how to pause and pray when cravings arise, identify what your heart truly needs, and how to build joyful alternatives that you genuinely look forward to. These aren't just temporary fixes—they're pathways to profound changes in how you experience your evenings.

Each small choice you make creates momentum toward mornings without regret and evenings filled with true rest. Whether you're questioning your relationship with alcohol or simply seeking more intentional evenings, this episode offers both practical wisdom and spiritual encouragement for your journey. Join our community of women embracing holy self-care and discovering deeper joy beyond the wine glass.

Speaker 1 (00:00):
Welcome to the Catholic Sobriety Podcast, the
go-to resource for women seekingto have a deeper understanding
of the role alcohol plays intheir lives, women who are
looking to drink less or not atall for any reason.
I am your host, christi Walker.
I'm a wife, mom and ajoy-filled Catholic, and I am

(00:22):
the Catholic Sobriety Coach, andI am so glad you're here.
Does this sound familiar?
Morning, you is optimistic, focused and ready to take on the
day.
She's got goals, a plan and theresolve to be her best self.
But as the day wears on, to beher best self.
But as the day wears on,something shifts.

(00:46):
By nighttime, you're drained, overwhelmed, and that glass of
wine starts looking like theeasiest way to unwind.
Before you know it, thepromises you made to yourself
this morning are a distantmemory.

(01:06):
Now, if that resonates with you, don't worry, you are
definitely not alone.
And, even better, you're in theright place, because today, in
this episode, we're breaking thecycle and finding ways to meet
those nighttime needs withoutturning to alcohol.
By the end, you'll feel moreequipped, supported and ready to
take back your evenings.

(01:28):
I hear this from so many womenand here's the truth that I want
to share with you today.
You are not weak.
This isn't about willpower.
It's about living in a way thathonors the beautiful woman that
God created you to be.
Honors the beautiful woman thatGod created you to be.
When you approach your eveningswith faith, prayer and

(01:55):
intention, you can find a peaceand joy at night, free from the
things that hold you back fromliving the life that he has
called you to.
I have seen incredibletransformations in women who
thought they'd never move pasttheir nighttime struggles, and
instead they were able tocultivate evenings that they
actually really looked forwardto.
Today, I'm going to be walkingyou through three ways to shift

(02:19):
your evening.
You know what I've realizedabout those tough evening
moments.
Nighttime, you is not thevillain here.
She's not here to undo all thegood that morning you had
planned.
She's simply carrying theweight of your day, the
decisions, the moments of stress, the emotions, and by the end

(02:42):
of the day, she's just lookingfor some rest and comfort.
And you know what?
That's okay.
God actually calls us to carefor our bodies and minds
lovingly.
I like to call this holyself-care.
So I invite you to pause andremember this truth.

(03:04):
So I invite you to pause andremember this truth.
Nighttime isn't a failure.
It's your chance to lean on theLord and ask how can I nurture
this part of myself in a waythat pleases you?
When we shift our perspective, everything begins to change.
Now the first way to supportyourself in the evenings is to

(03:28):
create a calming ritual thatinvites peace, both physical and
spiritual.
Now this could mean brewing acup of herbal tea, lighting a
candle, saying a short eveningprayer or the rosary soul saying

(03:48):
a short evening prayer or therosary.
Just as morning you might startthe day with prayer and
intention, nighttime you can dothe same.
To close out the day, you mightwant to spend a few minutes
reflecting on where you feltGod's presence during the day,
or whispering a prayer ofgratitude for his guidance.
These small actions can act asa heart reset.

(04:08):
You're ushering in rest andrenewal in a way that deepens
your connection to him.
This practice replacesagitation with comfort.
No glass of wine necessary Now.
This isn't just about shiftingin action.
It's actually about invitingGod into your evenings.

(04:29):
When you slow down andintentionally include him in
this time, peace actuallybecomes your anchor, actually
becomes your anchor.
Next, I want to encourage you topause when those cravings hit
and turn them into anopportunity for prayer and
self-reflection.

(04:50):
So when you feel that pulltoward a drink, stop and take
five deep breaths.
Then ask yourself two things.
The first is what am I trulyfeeling right now?
And the second is what is itthat my heart actually needs?

(05:13):
You may realize you're seekingcomfort because the day's stress
has left you worn out and weary.
Or maybe you're longing forconnection after a long and
isolating day.
When you've named the feeling, lift that to God in prayer.
If you're lonely, maybe pick upyour phone and call a loved one

(05:36):
.
If you're overwhelmed, retreatinto his word or listen to
calming music, go for a walk, take a hot bath.
Doing these things will helpmeet your needs in ways that are
deeply fulfilling.

(05:56):
Now you're not denying yourselfcomfort.
I want you to really rememberthat.
Let's not think with adeprivation mindset.
You're not just takingsomething out.
You're actually replacing itwith something even better,
because you're inviting God tobe your comfort.
Remember what Matthew 11 28says Come to me all who labor

(06:22):
and are heavy laden, and I willgive you rest and, lastly,
create something joyful andwholesome and special to look
forward to at the end of the day.
Maybe that's reading a goodbook, preparing some tea and

(06:42):
reading scripture, journalingabout your day, or just sitting
in quiet prayer and reflectingon how God is working in your
life.
So, to wrap up, I just want youto remember something Nighttime
you isn't a problem to Sol.
She's part of you that justneeds a little extra love and

(07:05):
care and attention.
When you start meeting herneeds in healthy, nourishing
ways, the cravings for alcoholwill fade.
Of course, this is not anovernight fix, but every small
choice that you make sets you onthe path towards mornings where
you wake up feeling proud andnights where you'll actually

(07:28):
enjoy your time.
Remember to be patient withyourself.
One small step at a time leadsto big change.
You've got this and I'mcheering for you every step of
the way Until next time.
Well, that does it for thisepisode of the Catholic Sobriety
