Jason (00:00):
This episode is brought
to you by Trophy AI, the
ultimate performance coach toolfor simracers.
Hello and welcome to theChicane Podcast, where we
(00:35):
discuss all things in thisembracing world.
I'm your host, Jason Rivera, and I'm joined here by Mr.
Jeff Smart.
How's everyone?
How is the one, Jeff Smart, doing today?
The dude, the one and only, often imitated, never
duplicated.
I guess everyone, right?
You know, I can include myselfin this, you know.
Fair enough.
That's good.
That's good.
That's good that you can you'rehaving a good week.
(00:57):
Uh it's been a hell of a week,you know.
Jeff (01:00):
Yeah?
How about you?
You've been busy?
I've been super busy, man.
Jason (01:04):
I I got some uh what you
call this?
I got some chicane juice, ify'all know what this is.
Um little little uhelectrolytes in there trying to
get the engine kick startedhere.
But no, no.
A little pick me up, yeah.
Uh good week for me overall.
I uh haven't been I haven'tbeen re-league racing lately,
(01:28):
and I just I feel it.
I need to get back there.
So um just working on a bunchof stuff.
Um building a server, buildingall kinds of things in this
house.
Uh, you know, you know how itgoes.
How about you?
Yeah, dude.
If it's not one thing, it'sanother, right?
Uh no, dude.
I've just been busy.
I've been uh in the in the ringa lot.
I've been uh uh driving.
(01:50):
Um I've been absolutely lovewith the uh the Delara IL 15.
Um but then I watched my myit's kind of cool story, real
quick is uh I watched uh the theTop Gun one with my son the
other day.
Um, and then I got the bug toget in there and do some flying
uh in DCS.
So I've been actually doing alot of driving, a lot of flying
this week.
So a little bit of this, alittle bit of that.
(02:11):
So um or the the 80s?
No, this is the the OG, the OG,the original.
The best one, bro, the 80s.
That's that's the only thing.
He's eight years old.
Yeah, 100%.
Uh, but he's like in that agewhere you know airplanes are
super cool and stuff like that.
So I was like, ooh, you know, and he he flies the hell out of
the plane.
Uh I'll get him in the rig andflying, and all of a sudden I'll
(02:33):
just be in the living room andbe like, Dad, I crashed, I need
a new plane.
I have to like run in and youknow, load him up, load him up
another plane, and he fliesaround.
So, yeah, it's cool.
He likes to he didn't reallycare about the driving, but he
loves to fly.
So um, but yeah, it's just coolthat you know, dual use um out
of the rig.
So a hundred percent.
We preach that here a lot.
It's like you build asimulator.
(02:54):
I mean, I'm not so I wouldn'tbe surprised if you got into
like the warships, you know.
That's another sim, you know,or train sim, farm sim.
I'll cut some grass in my rig, bro.
I got an expensive setup.
I'll cut some grass.
I'll cut some grass.
Yeah, I mean they they had uhthey had a couple sims from uh
at the expo about the uh thefarming.
(03:16):
Okay.
I uh yeah, both right, bothexpos, right?
Because we just got through theuh the German sim racing expo
just went down on the 17ththrough the weekend, right?
This uh weekend on the 17th.
And we're a little um, I guessI I don't I don't want to speak
for Jeff, but I'm pretty surewe're a little bummed that we uh
(03:40):
jealous of the the crews thatwere out there, yeah.
Yeah, I mean it it was kind oflike super cool stuff, and yeah.
It's it's it's it's a long way,dude, from out here.
I mean, it's legitimately couldbe perfectly halfway around the
world.
So I I'm going next year, andthat's for damn sure going next
(04:00):
year, but I have to make a tripout of it because I gotta it's
18 hours from here, you know.
That's a long journey.
Jeff (04:08):
Yeah.
Jason (04:08):
Um going and going in
reverse too.
We're going on the other sideof the of the of our side of the
world, I guess, right?
Because you can't really saythat to depends on where you're
at, and you know, I don't know.
But uh yeah, so I have plans togo and make a trip out of it.
And yeah, because this year itwas just too small.
It was just too close to the tothe um uh the you know uh the
(04:34):
sim gaming expo the expo, yeah.
American uh sim gaming expo,right?
So still it I got the bug thatyou know I saw all the
announcements, I've been keepingtrack, I've been taking down
notes, and yeah, I mean that's agood segue, but you know, is
(04:55):
there anything else you wouldlike to put out, Jeff, before we
start with the uh main topic, main session?
Jeff (05:00):
Nah, dude, I think I'm
good here.
I'm ready to get into it today,so let's kick it off here.
Jason (05:05):
Okay.
So since the Shicane podcast,we could not make it this year.
Um, I don't know if any of ourlisteners made it.
And if you did, then kudos toyou.
Let me know if we missedanything.
But I have some notes here onthe most notables, right, that
that happened during uh the theSim Racing Expo.
(05:29):
And we'll start with Fanitech, which is now technically
Corsair.
Uh they they showed off theirpodium DD flagship uh direct
drive wheelbase and their podiumload cell pedals, and those are
pretty cool.
Uh, I know a bunch of creatorsuh checked them out and sat in
(05:51):
there, and you know, but youknow how these things go when
you go to an expo and you tryout pedals, right?
And you try out wheelbases, those are very personal devices,
so I can't I can't really do adata uh how do you say this?
I can't really confide in thatall the way, you know, until you
(06:12):
have it home and then youactually apply settings and you
get it dialed into the way you,you know.
I don't know.
What do you how do you feelabout setups at an expo?
Yeah, 100%.
And I and I think we learnedthis lesson from um when we were
in Chicago is um when the thethe the um the Monza uh active
(06:33):
pedal and we were like this isterrible, like it just wasn't
good, and then we realized thathey, this could be a software
setting, and like we are justgetting a bad setup for this
pedal.
You know, it's you can'treally, to your point, uh, tell
how you really feel because likeespecially the brake is so
subjective to what car you'rein.
(06:54):
Like if you set me up with aperfect setup in a GT3, I'd be
like, this is totally differentthan what I'm accustomed to when
I'm normally driving my formulacar, you know.
So it to your point, it's justit it's a nice you can get a
general feel of kind of howthese things are, but it's hard
to really judge um you know, youknow, how they are.
(07:16):
It's good to talk to people andand the um the reps they have
there for they can articulate, hey, you know, you can change
this out and that out to make ityou know uh uh a firmer or
stiffer, so to speak, or softerthan you know what it is right
now, or you know, they're tryingto just set you um, they're
kind of giving you the the thebell-shaped curve of the feel,
you know, of everybody.
(07:36):
So it's it's okay foreverybody, not terrible for
anybody.
So um, yeah, I'm kind of withyou what you said.
It's theoretically, it's verysubjective for some of these
things.
That would be um a veryinteresting.
I mean, I like to think thatthey just find help and they put
things together, you know whatI mean?
(07:57):
Um, and they find help whoevercan help.
And you know, because I don'tknow.
I don't know with with setups,it's a very, very subjective
personal thing.
Um, but yeah, I'll continue.
I don't know why we you know, one more thing real quick, if
you don't mind me jumping intohere, is like let's tip our hat
and give these guys a little bitof credit because these guys
(08:18):
with the manufacturers aresetting up massive booths, uh
like four or five rigs inlegitimately like a day and
hooking up you know their PCs tothem.
You know, if you're if you havelike some of these huge
high-end motion rigs, like it'sridiculous the amount of setup
they're doing in like one day, four or three days to just tear
(08:40):
it down.
So let's cut, I guess we cankind of cut them a little bit of
slack for you know not havingthings perfectly tuned because
they are like massive amounts ofwork on like a Thursday to prep
for a Friday.
So um, I just want to you knowtip my hat that like I
understand and appreciate theamount of work to get some of
these booths ready.
Yeah, I mean a hundred percent.
A hundred percent.
(09:00):
And it's a lot of moving parts, there's people everywhere.
Um, even while they're settingup, there's there's there's
dust, there's people everywhere, there's you know, there's all
kinds of there's a lot going on.
And I, you know, George openedup a little to us about the
behind the scenes, and it's noteasy, you know, it's it's not an
easy task.
But anyway, sim, uh let's moveon here on the list here of
(09:24):
notables.
So that was that was kind of itfor Fanatech.
And then SimLab has their DDXtorque sync wheelbases.
They had two of them, they hadthe DDX26 and the DDX39.
Uh as a public reveal, 350 whatfifth architecture, and yeah,
it was first hands-on on on atthe show.
(09:46):
So that that's another sowheel, yeah.
Go ahead.
Let me ask you this.
What was the difference betweenthat one and whatever they
brought out to Chicago?
Because, in my opinion, the onein Chicago, while it felt okay
when you looked at it, it didn'tlook like it was remotely
close, ready for prime time.
(10:06):
So tip my hat to Sin uh Simlabto get from where they were in
Chicago, like was it two monthsago to where they are today?
But you you know what I'msaying?
Like they still had like theback end of the DDU was like
open and like wires, you couldstill see wires at the
connectors, and it wasn'tpolished uniformly.
It looked weird, it it lookedlike it was yeah connected to
some sort of amplifier.
(10:27):
And that's why I told you I waslike, hey, this wheel does not
feel good, but then that's not afair statement because it's not
the final product, it's not thefinal.
Um, I just think that what wetried was a very early version
of it, and they just wanted tohave the presence and say, hey,
SimLab is here, SimLab isworking on you know two new
(10:50):
wheel bases, and this is you canget an idea.
I don't I don't know if that'swhat they wanted, but a hundred
percent, right?
I I just um those are verythose are very, very popular
bases right now.
A lot of people are decidingwhether they're gonna get a
semicon 3 or one of these guys.
(11:11):
That's that's what's beentrending um hard on the
interwaves, you know, especiallywith yeah their connectivity,
you know, all that stuff that'shappening.
Yeah, I think SimLab is reallystarting to push some premium
product.
I mean, there they have the umMercedes F1 wheel.
(11:31):
They just released the um theIndyCar wheel that they're
partnership with uh Causeworth.
You know, that's not gonna be acheap wheel.
So they're starting to I Idon't did they push the price up
with these CDUs uh other directdrives wheelbases?
Um not that I know of at thetime.
I mean I can always update it.
I can always yeah, I can alwaysif if I find it later, I can
(11:53):
always put it in the in thedescription and also yeah.
I don't know the price.
Okay, moving to that premiumproduct.
Yeah, 100%.
Anyways, all right, movingforward.
So Sim Magic.
Go ahead, buddy.
Yeah, Sim Magic.
(12:14):
Check this out.
They announced a new formulawheel called the Zeus Formula
Steering Wheel, F1 style.
They had the Evo UltraWheelbase, 28 newton meters,
they had the P700 pedals.
Where's the active pedal?
I don't even talk about them,but don't we want I would don't
even want to talk about it?
(12:34):
Where's their active?
Everybody was expecting theactive pedal.
Everybody was was thinkingabout it last year.
This is it.
They were showing it off.
Yeah.
And this is the biggest eventin in our community in our
hobbies.
This is it.
This is where you want toreveal something that huge is is
here.
Uh but hey, I don't know.
(12:56):
Jason, straight no chaser here.
Dude, I was I I wasdisappointed.
I mean, I I mean, because thisis like, you know, this is where
you get the trickle down,right?
Competition is what keepsprices down and and products a
good product.
Is there's competition outthere, and I think a lot of
(13:17):
people were waiting for somemagic to push their active show
up with their active pedal.
And I I was you know, leadleading that, you know, that
army there of you knowexpectations.
And I was I'm gonna bestraight, I was yeah, I was
pretty disappointed that theydidn't come with an active
pedal.
They came with a ton of wheels.
Yeah, man.
Last year they had it locked inthis little uh acrylic cage,
(13:41):
and it was just simulatingmoving back and forth.
Nobody touched the pedal atall.
Nobody you can walk up to itand look at it, but I don't
know.
I don't know if uh I don't knowif they scrapped the idea and
start it over, you know.
And that's the thing.
Sometimes, you know, some youknow, sometimes Sim Magic does Q
(14:03):
⁇ A's on their on their YouTubechannel, and it's very
controlled, in my opinion.
It's like, where are thesequestions really coming from?
I'm pretty sure people want toknow where's your damn active
pedal?
How come we can't have a uhformula?
Well, they just announced aformula wheel, which we gotta
(14:23):
look at um later, but whycouldn't your why couldn't you
upgrade your your previous wheelto work with with simhub?
You know, all those things arequestions that I'm pretty sure
that the mass majority of thevoice uh was definitely heard.
It was whether it wasacknowledged is very different.
(14:43):
So yeah, so because I made somecomments about those wheels, and
I was like, hey, are thesesimhub compatible?
Because I mean that's that's ashowstopper for me, right?
I mean, I because I was when Iwas looking for a like what we
call like a trophy wheel, um,the FX Pro, not Sim Hub
compatible.
Showstopper.
Next, you know, so I did hearthat these are um now to what
(15:06):
level is interesting, right?
Because is it telemetry whereyou can just like make some
lights, you know, you could puta Daniel Newman uh LED you know
uh profile on it through SimHub?
I hope so is one thing versusputting a you know a a um the
screen?
I'm talking about the screen ascreen on it of your choice,
yeah.
You know, that's those are twodifferent questions.
(15:28):
And I don't think we as acommunity have a clean answer
from that.
Right.
So that's what I mean.
They come out with these QAs,and it's kind of it's very
controlled, like the QA wouldsay a random question that that
you can find just with a simpleGoogle search.
(15:50):
Uh not a shot to them.
I'm just saying, hey man, let'slet's let's communicate a
little more.
Let's keep the the the fans.
There's a lot of fans out therethat are following Sim Magic,
they want to support Sim Magic, they want to spend money on Sim
Magic.
So a lot of a lot of thosepeople, when they saw the Active
(16:13):
Pedal, they're like, I'm justgonna wait for the Sim Magic
Active Pedal.
I'm just gonna wait.
And it's been a whole yearsince they unveiled a prototype,
you know, it wasn't it didn'teven have a release date.
So I don't know.
I hopefully they hopefully theycome out with something.
Hopefully somebody sayssomething to them because it's
(16:33):
it's looking kind of stagnant ontheir end, even though they
have products coming out, butit's not very, it's not anything
revolutionary, right?
Yeah, it's evolutionary, notrevolutionary.
It's just more maybe somebodythat went to the show.
Yeah, maybe somebody that wentto the show can speak, you know.
If they ask the questionspecifically, hey, can we load
(16:55):
up different you know, uhscreens, whether it be lovely,
DNR, whatever dash that you'relooking for, can you do that?
Or is it just LED profiles?
Let us know in the comments ifif you have talked to them while
you were there.
Okay, for sure.
So we'll move on to the listhere.
Thrustmaster, which um they'renot quitting, you know.
(17:19):
Thrustmaster is still in thegame.
Um, they got a new formulawheel add-on, a Ferrari SF25
edition.
Um, they have the updated T18bundle, which includes the
Ferrari pack, the Racelinepedals, LTE, and yeah.
So another company, um Nakon,uh Revo Sim, you know, RS Pure
(17:44):
kit with the PS5 Xbox Series Xand S support and new add-ons.
So I'll I'll have there'll besome displays up here on what
these things look like.
And VPG Sim, which I can'twait, which I was talking to
this morning.
So shout out to Manny, theGhost.
Jeff (18:04):
What can't you wait for,
Jason?
Jason (18:05):
The old tell us.
I was like, Manny, what's goingon with customs, bro?
Can you call them?
He's like, I can't callcustoms, bro, in the US.
No, I'm kidding.
I'm kidding.
Um, I hit him up and I waslike, hey man, I made I made my
pre-order for the new PorscheCup Wheel through Podium One.
(18:25):
And podium one, nothing butgreat things to say about them.
Super responsive.
They actually have a phonenumber, you know.
Go figure that you can call andand and talk to them.
Jeff (18:37):
You can call a company and
talk to somebody.
Jason (18:39):
You can talk to them.
You're not on an unwaitingmachine, it's not no AI trying
to tell you that you should seehow frustrated I get on the
phone with an A with when itwhen it's a machine, bro.
Screaming at the top of mylungs.
I'm like, agent,representative, representative.
Yeah.
So they they were reallyhelpful.
(18:59):
They said, listen, theshipment, we have to get the
stock so that way we can shipyou the wheel, and it makes a
hundred percent sense.
And today I just kind of wokeup and I was like feeling iffy,
and I was like, you know what?
Let me message VPG and see ifshould I cancel my podium one
pre-order and just order directfrom you know VPG.
(19:21):
And yeah, they've been on topof it.
Manny was awesome.
Manny was talking to CJ, whichis some sort of high level at
Podium One.
And yeah, they're they'reworking out the the logistics.
So if any of you guyspre-ordered this wheel, just
hang tight from Podium One.
(19:42):
So, yep.
And the uh the actual wheel wasshowcased in the real car,
which is the red livery, thefreaking the brand new 992.2 uh
Porsche Cup.
And I'm I'm so jealous.
Uh, one of the guys at thesimpit was sitting in the car
(20:03):
for like 15 minutes because theytold him to sit there and he
just sat there.
He didn't want to leave.
It was funny as hell.
Yes, sir.
Yeah, yeah.
So that's cool.
Do you do you have a ETA whenyou might see the wheel in
shipping, or is it just it isone to two days when it happens?
One to two days.
Oh, yeah.
So one to two days.
Yeah, because the the thewheels, the shipment, the cargo,
(20:27):
the crate, whatever, is inLouisville.
And Louisville in the UnitedStates, guys, if you guys are
ordering things from overseas, and you see your package arrives
in Louisville, uh, that's wherecustoms, that's a gateway.
We have one uh in Hawaii, theclosest one is LAX, and then you
(20:48):
have one in Kentucky, I think.
Right?
So take your word for that.
Yep.
So I'm just waiting for them toSo you're getting close.
Uh hopefully next week I'llhave it, man.
I want to start testing it.
I can't wait.
If I don't hear back from you,if I don't hear back from you
for a couple days, I'll know.
(21:09):
No, you'll come over.
You'll come over and mess withit.
Yeah, you know, you're rightdown the street.
All right, so yeah, VPG.
Um, they also um what did theymake it?
They they uh um they had a dualmode analog paddles here.
Um it was a war debut for SRE.
They also had a sale recentlyfor their Porsche.
(21:30):
I can't say Porsche wheel, buttheir VPG GT wheel that heavily
looks like a Porsche wheel.
They had a sale recently goingon for that.
Um and yeah, that was VPGtoday.
Uh, not today at the expo.
So Simicube, of course, theSimicube 3.
Um, they had both models there.
(21:52):
They had the Savo wheel at theExpo, and I think they announced
another wheel there.
I can't remember the name.
Do you recall the name?
If anybody recalls the name, just drop it, drop it below.
Jeff (22:04):
Email the right off the
top of my head.
Jason (22:07):
This is what happens when
we're stuck on the on the
sidelines here, man.
So, and uh one more thing gotannounced by Kunos, uh, and it's
Aceto Corsa rally, anotherAceto Corsa title coming to
early access.
That's what I don't like onNovember 13th, 2025.
(22:29):
So we're gonna see UnrealEngine 5, which is very
promising.
Um, Jeff, if you didn't know,um UE5 is basically uh when you
when you look at ACC, those kindof graphics.
That's the kind of engine thatthey're using.
So nice.
Hey, you can't tell me thatthere's more people doing rally
(22:51):
than open wheel.
Can we get a set of corsa openwheel?
Jeff (22:54):
Oh, a set of corsa
formula.
Jason (22:56):
Oh, I know, I know.
You got this, I know.
I'm sorry, man.
I'm sorry.
Um I do early access for that.
I and I wouldn't even complainabout it.
I'm gonna do the early accessfor this.
I want to see what this rallything is about, man.
You know, you know, you likerally.
What are you talking about,bro?
Oh, I do, but not as much as Ilove formula open wheel.
(23:17):
Yeah, true.
So Jeff and I I I I I need to Ineed to break away into this,
bro.
I need to break it up.
Well, I don't know where you'regoing with this, but go ahead.
Well, this was very unexpected, and it just happened right
before we just hit the recordbutton just now.
And Jeff, you know where I'mgoing, where I'm where I'm
cooking up.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
(23:39):
So I don't want to mentionnames, but they were showing you
know mouse as being on acompact steering wheel and the
adapter costing upwards of $200for that, which is basically
what the QR cost.
But then there's a littledevice that this came from.
I want you to know, Jeff, thisdidn't come from me.
(24:00):
This idea came from Edub SimRacing, which shout out to E
Dub.
He's a follower and a dearfriend of mine, and he noticed
these things at the expo.
And that's when I hit you up,and I was like, yo, we need to
buy one of these, and you wereon travel.
I think you ordered it fromlike Thailand or something,
(24:21):
wherever you were.
So here it is.
These little devices areamazing.
You got a built-in mouse, gamechanger, full-size keyboard, the
battery lasts, I don't know,forever, and it's USB C and it
costs 20 bucks.
You know, I'll leave a link inthe description.
(24:43):
Affiliate free.
Just go ahead and pick one up.
Just go ahead.
Um 20 24.
I mean, it's it's awesome.
Just and it's incredibly, yeah,it works great.
It's got a touchpad, you know,on the top.
Don't need to reach over thekeyboard.
(25:03):
Yeah, I mean, it's killer.
And it even was like it cameand I was like, yeah, did they
send me the the the empty model?
Like, there's no guts in it,but yeah, because it's just so
light uh and flimsy, but yeah, works great.
It's got grips and it's even gotlike these shoulder buttons,
kind of like a remotecontroller, which is kind of
cool.
Um, this is an option if youguys um this is actually a great
(25:26):
option for when we start addingmotion on these rigs.
The days of having a mouseconnected to the rig are over, I
hope you know.
Because their mouse is justgonna go, it's gonna go flying.
It's gone, it's gone.
So having one of these guysthat you can securely mount,
which we're still trying tofigure out a way to securely
(25:47):
mount this to the rig withoutcompromise.
Uh, we'll get back to you, man.
And yeah, I'll put the link inthe affiliate free.
I don't want nothing from this.
I just a quick tip (25:56):
20 bucks,
hook it up, off you go.
Works great.
And with that, that is my uhportion of the the coverage of
this year.
Um, I'm pretty sure I missedmany things.
I know they had excitingevents, they had all kinds of
celebrities over there.
I saw Daniel Morad was walkingaround.
(26:17):
Um, I saw a bunch of high-levelcontent creators walking
around, and yeah, it was packed.
Apparently, the up 30% onticket sales this year, which is
insane.
You know, it was it was soldout, you know, they sold out the
venues.
There was not a single openspace, yeah.
(26:37):
So Germany is it's just astretch to get over there, but I
need to make that happen.
I need to experience that atleast once, you know.
Jeff (26:48):
Yeah, Germany's cool.
Autobahn, that's my favoritepart, and the beer.
Jason (26:52):
Yeah, and then next year,
um I think it's gonna be in
Frankfurt.
So you international flightscome in through there, so as
soon as you land, I'm not surehow far into the you know the
country is gonna be, but that'spretty cool, right?
You have a gateway right there, and you don't have to like land
(27:13):
there and then maybe takeanother plane or take the I mean
taking the Autobahn is fun ashell, just like you said.
I think that's what Michael didthe last year.
He he rented out uh uh electricPorsche and just took it
straight to the Autobahn uh andfound out that there are way
faster cars on this Autobahn.
(27:35):
So, dude, I remember being inlike a little BMW 318 and got
like the doors blown off me bylike a minivan.
Oh, so you now oh yeah, ohyeah.
I've been like maxed out thislittle BMW 318, like I don't
remember what it was, turbodiesel or something, and this
minivan just and I was goinglike the minivan, 135 miles an
(27:58):
hour, and I just saw it in myhead rear view mirror, and then
it was gone.
Gone this little minivan.
I was like, damn, mom's latefor soccer practice or
something.
Damn.
Uh yeah, they know how to drivethough.
They absolutely know how todrive.
That's what's up.
They should.
I need to I'm gonna handful.
Yeah, there's only a handful ofplaces that have no no limits,
(28:20):
I think.
And this was you know, five, geez, seven, eight years ago
now, so things maybe changed.
Okay.
All right, man.
So if I think we're closing onthe uh sim racing expo, uh for
those who went, you know, I'msuper jealous and and happy that
you that you went over thereand you supported the community
(28:42):
because the people is whatdrives these events.
Don't you forget that we holdthe power, not them.
So with that, Jeff, I'll I'llhand it over to your topic
today, which is it's kind ofcool, man, because you know, you
you're doing some, you knowwhat?
Let me not steal his thunder.
Over to Jeff.
(29:02):
No worries.
Hey, so I've been um, you know, this new season came out with
uh in in iRacing and it releasedsome cars that we've covered um
a couple weeks ago.
Um, but I don't know what mademe want to do it.
Uh I jumped in randomly, um,one of the new cars that they
pushed out, the Delara IL 15.
And what a car.
(29:24):
So I'm gonna kind of give you arundown of this car, um, what I
think of it, just a little bit, deep dive on it, a little bit
about how to race it and some uhsome tips, tricks, and you
know, just my little my feedbackof the car here.
So while we're doing while I'mtalking, I'm just gonna share um
the uh iRacing page on it, justso you the you can see what the
(29:46):
car you know looks like as Ikind of talk through a little
bit of the background of theactual car here in real life and
then um how it races iniRacing.
So uh super cool car.
So this uh this is a little bitof background that the series
known as the IndyCar Next.
This is the car that they racedin the IndyCar Next.
Uh debuted in 02 as the feederseries for the then Indy Racing
(30:07):
League.
It took uh and it took on itscurrent name in the 2023 when it
was acquired by PenskeEntertainment, which we've
covered in a couple otherepisodes later, uh previously.
Uh it has become a highlyeffective at graduating drivers
into the premium NTT uh IndyCarseries.
And then the and with withfuture IndyCar Champions, uh
(30:28):
Newgarden uh and and a coupleothers, uh, the Delara IL15
introduced in 2015.
It features a 415 basehorsepower, and you get an
additional 50 horsepower withthe push the pass button, which
I'll talk about later.
It comes out of a turbocharged2.0 liter inline.
Yeah.
What's that?
(30:48):
It's awesome, dude.
That pushes the pass button.
Yeah, a little yeah,absolutely.
So I'll we'll talk about thathere in a second.
Here, uh, so here's a little II got a comparison here for you.
So the F4 um in iRacing is asame 2.0 liter inline four, and
it produces 160 horsepower.
So a hundred 450 versus 160.
(31:12):
Uh, it's just kind ofinteresting.
So and it weighs only, I think, like 200 and 300 pounds extra
uh than the F4.
So the cars received an updatein uh the real life cars
received an update in 21,including the Halo for the
driver's safety, which is savedto numerous uh drivers, uh, and
the new engine uh tuned by ARAER to run a full seasons
(31:33):
without a rebuild.
So these cars drive in theirseries, and that motor is
bulletproof for the season forthe majority of these drivers.
The latest update to the carcame in 2023 when Firestone took
over as the tire supplier afterPenske acquisition uh
acquisition of the championship.
The uh IL 15 is faster and morecapable than the Formula 3 car.
(31:56):
This is me comparing it to umthe real cars in uh iRacing now,
uh, but more approachable thanthe top-tier indie car IR-15.
If you or IR18, excuse me.
If you've driven that car, thatcar is a rocket ship.
Um, that's a very similar carto the W13 uh Mercedes that you
can drive.
Um so this is a greattransition.
(32:18):
You can go from like an F4 carto this one.
Uh it'd be a steep learningcurve, a lot more horsepower,
which I'll kind of talk to alittle bit about how you can
handle it and manage it.
So this car fits in my mind, itfits in between the super
formula light and thesuperformula.
So for perspective, the IR-15has double the horsepower than
(32:41):
the F3, but only weighs 200pounds more.
So it's got that solid spot inbetween the S the Super Formula
Light and the Super Formula.
So interesting portion here isthis is C class license to drive
it in oval or street.
So um that's kind of which isawesome, right?
(33:02):
Because you you you pay for onecar, you can race it in two
series.
100%.
Yep.
And uh I think C class is likethe sweet spot for there's still
a lot of people racing it, butthe people racing it are risking
respectful.
Not the right word, but you getgood clean racing is really
what I think the right word tosay there.
(33:23):
100% have been around longenough.
Um you're not gonna get big oldpile ups in turn one when you
occasionally, but uh most peopleare there competitive, they'll
keep their line.
It just I think that's thesweet spot for me for good
competitive racing.
Um, so let me jump into ithere.
So uh it is a rolling start, which caught me by surprise big
(33:43):
time on the first one.
I jumped into the car and saidgrid, and I was like, whoa, what
is going on?
Like, did I miss the grid and Igot dropped in?
Um, so it was a steep learningcurve as that was a rolling
start, one of the first rollingstarts I've done in a long time.
Um so you and it was at uh itwas at Virginia International
Speedway.
So it's not a short first lapas you're doing the formation.
(34:06):
Oh, that's a big ass trait,bro.
It's a long track, right?
So I'm like like there'sthere's like 50-50, whether we
make it around here withoutsomebody hitting or getting hit
from the back, you know, justsomebody not paying attention.
So, anyways, it worked outgood, it was great.
But uh, they are have fixedsetup only at this time.
So um probably iRacingstatement uh stance here was
(34:26):
like, hey, let's just get aseason under a belt here, um,
and then we can develop that andpeople can just get their feet
wet with it for a season, andmaybe we'll see it come out next
season.
Um it races uh top of the hourevery hour, so it's not like
there's you know just one or tworaces a day.
Um healthy, right?
Obviously.
How's the grids?
Healthy, yeah.
I drove it and there was it wasa full grid at 20 something
(34:50):
cars.
Um so it was cool.
Uh maybe not 20, maybe it waslike 15 or so, but it was good.
So it wasn't like five orseven.
Um, so some previous trackshave been Spa, Virginia
International, like I said,Portland, and I think this week,
while it airs, is uh the RedBull ring.
Want to have a live coachavailable on demand?
With Trophy AI, you'll be ableto practice with Mansell AI at
(35:12):
your convenience, a real-timecoach in your headphones to
navigate and guide you throughthe track, helping you achieve
race base.
This tool is awesome as itprovides full brake, throttle,
and steering telemetry on screenwith a live review getting you
ready for your next big race.
Check links to Trophy AI in thedescription and also use
Shicane 12 in all caps for a 12%discount.
(35:36):
So super I think the Red Bull isa cool track.
It's got some tight turns, highspeed corners, Red Bull ring,
some straightaways.
Yeah, yeah.
I used to hate it and now I loveit.
You know, it's one of thosetracks.
Yeah, turn two for me is you'regoing up that hill and then it
cuts back real.
That's that's it's just a hardturn for me.
I don't know why.
I just have a hard it's hard toget it.
(35:57):
I think every track has thatturn.
Yeah, everybody has that turn.
You just kind of like, oh I Ihope I can you know make it
through that every you know, andthis is every game.
Here comes the turn again.
Here comes the turn.
I just just left this this thiscorner.
Um it's only like a minute, Idon't know, a minute and a half.
It's a short track, right?
But you're like, man, I justleft here.
(36:18):
Um all right, so I'm gonna talka little bit about I think that
one of the coolest parts of thecar is it has the push to pass.
Um, so this is like this isthere is second car think.
This is the only second car tohave it.
Yeah, second car.
So you yeah, the W13 has DRS.
This and then the super formulahas push the pass.
So this is the second push topass.
(36:40):
23.
Yep.
And they come alive when youhit that button, bro.
It sounds like a VTech, bro.
Like when you when you hit it.
So this gives you 50 extrahorsepower.
Um, obviously, activate it umon your steering wheel.
I think you could probablyactivate it wherever, but most
people will use it on thesteering wheel.
Be crazy to take your hands offthe steering wheel.
Um, you get 150 seconds perrace.
(37:02):
You cannot use it duringqualifying over um, so uh you
get a hundred uh so so is itcommuted?
Is it is it like um sorry to cutyou, is it like can it it can't
be consecutive, but it's likeso you get does it count?
Does it keep count?
Like if I press it for 10seconds, that means I have 140
(37:24):
left?
Is that what you mean?
It does.
Yep, okay, absolutely.
The longest you can press it is15 seconds.
You can keep pressing thebutton, but it's gonna cut you
off at 15 seconds.
And the car is smart too, because when you hit the brakes,
it it disengages it, right?
Or or or does it not?
Yep, absolutely.
Okay, no, it will absolutelyyou have to be, I think 70 you
(37:45):
have to be 75% throttle to getit to activate.
So if you're pressing thebutton and it's not working, you
probably need are either inpractice or falling.
So you're saving that for liketo defend or or you know on a
straight.
What were what were you doing?
So I did some reading aboutthis, and it is the most
(38:08):
effective use of it is out ofthe corners to get up, get up to
top speed.
Um, because it is pointless touse the V Max or to use at max
speed because you're not gonnaget any faster, you're already
redlining at in top gear.
So, pro tip here is you know, use the juice out of the
(38:29):
corners, get up and going, um,and and just manage it over the
course of whatever race.
You know, if you're doingspots, obviously a longer,
longer.
It's still dangerous, you know.
Um, you know, where out of theright thing, you know.
You know, when you when youactivate this thing uh coming
out of a corner, that's a lot ofpower that you're asking for,
you know.
And then you mention youmentioned 75% on the throttle,
(38:52):
you know.
Yeah, just be sure.
So push the pass is onlyavailable on street courses,
won't work on oval.
Uh, I don't think it wouldreally, because you're almost
pretty much redlining uh in a inthis car on an oval.
It'll make sense to have it onoval.
No, it depends on the well, maybe a roval, maybe uh maybe a
(39:15):
roval, but not an not a straightoval.
I don't think so.
Yeah.
Jeff (39:20):
This car would be super
cool on like the Daytona Street
Course.
Jason (39:24):
That's what I was saying.
Like, yeah, like uh like yeah, yeah.
Or Charlotte, the CharlotteYeah, yeah, something that has
the bank and the quick little, yeah.
Um, hey, so here's your word ofwarning, uh, crew.
Big time turbo lag in first, second, and third-ish gear.
Gentle on the throttle.
(39:45):
You can this is not an F4 car,you can't just mash on the
throttle and expect the car tobe facing the same direction
when you're done.
Um, so I think there's thesaying is if the car is
straight, accelerate.
If the wheels are straight,accelerate.
All right.
If you if you're turning, gentle on the throttle.
You're talking about400-something horsepower um in a
pretty light little vehiclehere.
(40:06):
So this is it's a snappy car,but it is fun as shit.
Give it a go.
Um, there's good fields racingit.
I didn't, I did not do an ovalrace, you know.
I'll give you to you straighthere, but I did a number of um
uh officials in the in the umthe formula, and I did a bunch
of the time attacks in it.
(40:26):
Uh just I I think it's funbecause you just constantly are
going full out every lap, andyou can get the ghost car of
somebody that's just a littlebit faster than you that you
know that iRacing gives you.
So that's kind of fun.
Um, I use uh trading paint andput a you know Mercedes uh
livery on it, and of course, right?
(40:48):
And it makes you feel likeyou're in a formula car.
And it's a it's it's not aslouch of a car like the F4 car,
it's not a miserable handfullike the W13.
It's snappy, it's fashionable.
I like that.
I mean that W-13 is is likeit's trying to kill you.
Every gear it's trying to killyou.
(41:09):
Um, but this is just a superfun car.
I'd recommend everybody get inthere and at least give it a go,
give it a try.
Well worth the 13 or so bucksum for it.
Gives you two classes to race, you can race an oval and wait a
minute, wait a minute, Jeff.
Wait a minute, wait a minute.
You said $13, right?
Guess who's part of guess who'spart of the 40 club very
(41:30):
recently?
You made it the 40 club?
That's you.
You made it to the 40 club.
No, did I make the uh um didn'tyou make the 40 club?
Is it I've bro, I've been the 40club, bro.
I've been okay.
So I'm not proud of this.
Whatever the first discountlevel is.
I made it to the 40 levelwithin my first year, and that's
(41:52):
not good.
That's not a good thing.
Jeff (41:55):
Is it is it good?
It's not bad.
For those, yeah, okay.
Jason (41:57):
For those who know what
the 40 club is, we'll leave it
there.
You know, if you don't know, just Google iRacing 40 Club.
You'll see what that means.
Jeff (42:05):
Because I was gonna say,
you know, for for $11 or
whatever I paid for it.
Yeah, so I do have some type ofdiscount going on.
I must have made some club thatI'm not proud about, but I'm
here.
Jason (42:14):
So uh long story short,
here team.
Um stop sharing this.
The IL 15, uh, super fun car.
Give it a go.
Uh good fields, C class racing,so you don't really have to
worry about you knowknuckleheads.
Um, I've had a lot of fun andI've been, I think it's all I've
maybe driven the last like twoweeks.
(42:34):
So yeah, man.
That's what I got, Jason.
Um, yeah.
There was a week that this carwas at the um rangmeister, I
think it's called on theiRacing.
Do not sleep on this event oniRacing because it's a different
car every week, but it's on theNord, on the Nords, Nureberg
(42:56):
ring.
Different car every week.
Um so I think I saw it pop up,and but I was so busy I
couldn't, I I wanted to.
I should have.
I should have.
But but, anyways, guys, thankyou so much, Jeff.
And it, but it's that time, andit hasn't been that time in a
long time.
But it finally is that time.
(43:17):
It only took us six months toget here.
And Jeff is straight up, he'sgot the he's he's we've had this
ready for how long, Jeff?
We've had this ready.
No kidding.
I think it was pre, was itpre-expo?
Yeah, it was.
Pre I think it might have beenpre-expo.
(43:37):
Pre-Chicago Expo, guys.
That's like that's don'texaggerate around two months.
Yeah.
That was September.
Because it's got yeah, becauseit's got pro potentially, I'm
gonna may trigger some peoplehere, the most history out of a
(43:59):
track, maybe.
So without further ado, youwant me to dig into it?
Yes, sir.
It's that time for track of theweek, and Jeff Smart's got it,
and over back over to him.
Thank you so much, Jeff.
Ladies and gentlemen, let meshare you with what we got
today.
Today, we are going to coverSilverstone, one of uh, you
(44:24):
know, the premier tracks um thatat least formula goes to.
But I think like everybodywould argue that Silverstone is
one of the most popular umtracks around the world, really.
Um, it just you know, it wasbig in the F1 movie.
Um, but anyways, withoutfurther ado, I'm gonna dig into
this and you guys can see thetrack.
(44:45):
This is the initial layout backin 1948 that you can hear.
What the hell is that?
It looks like a yeah, this isso let me dig it.
I'll I will explain.
Okay, okay.
All right.
Yeah, it turned it turns out itwas on an old uh Air Force.
Airfield or yeah.
(45:07):
So let me dig into this becauseit's kind of interesting how
this started.
So Silverstone declared itselfhome of the British racing, and
with the history stretching backto 1948, there is and there is
some justification to the claim.
Always with uh one of thefastest circuits, Silverstone
has developed from its uhwide-swept airfield origins to
(45:28):
one of the most recognizabletracks in motorsports, home to
the British Grand Prix on twoand four wheels.
Today, the circuit boasts itsmost interactive museum, the
Silverstone Experience, and athriving business park, home to
motorsport businesses thatinclude Astor Martin Formula One
team.
Outside of the Grand Prix, eachyear, the track plays host to a
(45:51):
wide variety of national racingand extremely popular historic
meetings, the SilverstoneClassic.
The circuit began life in 1943as RAF Silverstone, home to unit
training, Wellington pilots, innight bombing techniques.
At the end of World War II, itbecame surplus uh to
requirements and lay dormant forseveral years.
Its first brush withmotorsports is strictly
(46:13):
unofficial.
This is awesome.
A group of local enthusiastsheld an impromptu thrash around
the abandoned runway in 1947.
One of the this is yeah, ready?
Well, I could just imagine likethey left the pint, the pub,
the pub after a couple pints.
He'd be like, hey, I bet I betI could beat you around the
racetrack, the uh airfield.
(46:33):
Ah, bullshit, Mikey.
I'll take you.
And they this is how ithappened.
One of the one of the peopleracing struck a sheep as it
wandered onto the site of thetrack, therefore, leading to
today's event being dubbed thethe mutton grand prix.
That poor sheep, bro.
So I reminds me of that lizardin Singapore, bro.
(46:54):
Yeah, dude, they probably talkedabout that story, like the boys
that bet when they were back atthe pub or whatever.
Like, remember that day whenJohnny hit the sheep going, you
know, 80 miles an hour, whateverit was, you know.
He disintegrated the sheep,bro.
The sheep was just right, bro.
Okay.
By the following year, therewas an official interest in
(47:15):
creating a circuit from therunways, with Donington Park
being used as a storage area forthe military, Brooklyn be uh
Brooklyn being owned by Victor'sArmstrong with the in uh
inevitable focus on aircraft andthe Crystal Palace in the state
of despair.
So this is kind of like the theairfield is kind of going
despair as the end of the war iscoming on, and they're just not
(47:36):
using the field.
The Royal Automotive Club begansearching for new venues with
its expansive runways and perperimeter roads.
Silverstone became ideal inwhat turned out to be one of the
best decisions in motorsportracing administrative history.
The RAC enlisted James JimmyBrown to organize the first
(47:56):
Grand Prix, giving him less thantwo months to make an event a
reality.
Not only did he pull off aminor miracle, Brown remained
firmly at the helm for 40 years, guiding Silverstone's
transition from um frombackwards racing to world class
specifically.
Figure this out.
Two months, bro.
Yeah, it it and you're gonnahold a major event here.
(48:18):
So uh 1948, we're still here,still in 1948.
Uh, so it was the first GrandPrix that run at the beginning
of October in 1948 throughoutthe city, uh, though on a
significantly different courseto what is what would
subsequently follow.
Using both main runways as partof the perimeter part of the
perimeter road, the course waslaid out with oil barrels and
(48:39):
straw bale, straw bales.
Uh spectators held back uh fromthe track edge by nothing more
than a robust set of ropes.
Uh competitors also foundthemselves heading headlong
towards each other at top speedswhere the two runways uh ended
in hair in sharp hairpins.
You can see where uh uh thatthat is on the map.
(48:59):
It's pretty self-explanatory.
The solution canvas screens toprevent the drivers from seeing
each other as they were drivingtowards each other.
Like we're gonna get rid of thefact that the fact they just
won't know they're driving ateach other.
Um that's right up my alley.
That's in the uh the eventnonetheless was deemed a success
and set Silverstone firmly onthe motorsports racing map from
(49:21):
uh 1949.
A switch to the perimeter roadswas only uh was was made, uhbe
it a chicane at the club cornerinitially.
The pit facilities were locatedat Abbey and Woodscott.
So I'll jump ahead here.
Move the map along here.
So it just kind of stays thesame here as we're going.
(49:43):
So 1950, significantly,Silverstone was the venue for
the first Formula One WorldChampionship event in May 1950.
The Queen was there to watch touh to date, the only British
event which a reigning monarchhas been attended.
That's kind of cool.
Uh, the early years we also sawthe a shorter club circuit
introduced for a number ofnational events for the first
(50:04):
time.
The vintage sports car clubused it a variant, it used a
variant of it in 1949, which ranfrom Corpse through Maggot's,
Beckett's and uh Chapel down tothe hairpin in Stowe.
If you live in you know uhEngland, you probably know these
like the back of your hand.
Um, I know them every timeSilverstone comes up on the F1
(50:25):
track.
I hear uh, you know, uh thecommentators comment these.
I forget them as we move on.
The start finish was just afterthe Stowe hairpin.
Oh good.
Uh the course began to run in aclockwise direction.
From 1942, the British RacingDrivers Club took over of the
running of the circuit from theRAC, and a number of corners saw
minor revisions, and otherfacilities were generally
(50:47):
improved.
The pits and paddocks assumedtheir familiar locations between
Woodscott and Corpse.
Uh, the start-finish line wasalso moved to the new location
accordingly.
The classic Silverstone layoutwas now firmly established,
complete with a new club coursewhich ran through Corpse and
Maggot before turning back onitself and just ahead of
Beckett's and running along therunway back to Woodscott.
(51:08):
A few significant circuitlayout changes would occur for
the next quarter century, although granular improvements
to pits and spectator uhfacilities continued.
So I'm gonna jump to 1970 andJake.
Bro, it was wild in its originalform.
That shit was like a deathtrap.
Yeah, it's kind of cool thatthey didn't change it because of
(51:29):
it was a death trap.
You know, like a lot of thingsin the past we've talked about
have been um you know, like, oh,so-and-so died, seven
spectators died.
We need to slow the cars down.
We need to we need to put warpup.
Yeah, right.
The Brits are like, we'll put apiece of paper up so they can't
see what they're doing.
Yeah, they're like, just holdhold my pint, watch this, you
(51:50):
know.
So 1973, British Grand Prixstands out as a significant
event in Silverstone history.
At the end of the first lap, ayoungful Jody Slector lost
control of his McLaren spinninginto the pit wall.
The chain reaction behind sawmultiple pile up behind, which
took out most of the field, uh,and was at the time the biggest
crash in F1 history.
(52:11):
Amazingly, um this uh Andrea Deor uh Andrea De La Amish was
the only casualty sufferingserious injuries, which
ultimately would end his drivingcareer.
The collision also expected theuh exposed the fact that debris
could end up in thegrandstands, and it was clear
(52:31):
that the changes were needed.
As I said, it time wouldeventually change, makes safety
changes.
The GPU was held at Brand'shatch in 1974, but uh by the
time of the new season arrivedin 75, a chicane greeted the
racers at Woodscott and did um abrand new pit garage.
The national circuit continuedto bypass the chicane, as did
(52:52):
the motorcycle course.
So that's crazy that the GPUthey put the track put in the
chicane over by uh Woodscott, and the GT, the um the Grand
Prix was like, Yeah, we're notdoing that.
Just keep them going fast.
We don't care.
That's it.
So one thing that has alwaysstood uh from Silverstone, apart
from any other circuits, is itshigh speed with no slow corners
(53:14):
to speak of, and long straightstaken full throttle.
Average speeds continue toclimb, even in the additions of
the chicane and woodcoat, whichwe just talked about, did little
to slow down the cars and theand the bikes.
By the time of the turbo errorin F1, cars were passing through
the chicane faster thanpredecessors had managed through
the original corner.
So they were going through thechicane faster than the cars
(53:35):
pre-turbo error were goingwithout the chicane.
Um, so some of the famouscorners um that you uh if you
watch F1, you they will talkabout them forever.
But you have Abbey's,Beckett's, um, you can see them
on the map here.
Uh Stowe Corner, Maggot's, Italked about Corpse, Club
Corner, and uh the hangarstraits, which is you know, back
(53:56):
in the day had surprise, surprise, airplane hangers.
So I'm gonna jump ahead here to88-ish.
In the map here, where are weat?
I think here.
Oh, yeah.
By the time yeah, they they youcan start to see its current
shape take form.
By the time the F1 starsarrived in 87, the track again
(54:17):
skipped a year uh and went tobrands hatch, um, which is
weird, right?
Because brands is like a fairlysmall track, and Silverstone is
huge, like monster difference.
Yes, a big difference.
Yeah, yeah.
So drastic changes have beenmade to uh to uh Woodscoat.
The S Ben Chicane was removedand then replaced by a new sharp
(54:38):
left left-right bend on theapproach.
In addition, more than 1million pounds was spent
replacing the 1975 pits with 40much larger garages, topped by
an all-new press center thatwould be complete by the 88
Grand Prix.
In 1990, uh further significantdevelopment happened over the
winter of '99, designed to takethe circuit through the 90s.
(55:00):
The runoff at Corps wasincreased by tightening the
entry and rerouting the corner.
While the original Beckett'scorner was passed with uh with a
sweeping high in high speedseries of corners, forming a new
Maggot's Beckett's uh chapelcurve sequence.
This is like that big um if youwatch the track now where
(55:21):
they're they do those high-speedlike S's, which is a super
track.
Yeah, the weaving, right?
Um hangar straight wasunchanged.
Surprise.
Um for an additional of uhtraffic bridge.
Uh this is to get uh the thespectators in and out, but still
was slowed and tightened into afourth gear turn.
(55:42):
Uh love says slowed into fourthgear, not something that
usually happens to be fourthgear is probably there.
Yeah, before the track divertedoff into the new Vale complex
and a left right flick, quoteunquote, back into the club.
The cars were as a consequenceslowed down uh and unchanged
abbeys before swooping backunder the bridge and right
(56:03):
through the new high speedcorner up to the left hander.
Um yeah, so some minor changeshere.
I'm gonna move ahead to 94later in the 90s.
Oh, yeah, that's a you canstart to see it's getting even
more further.
Track revisions came in 94after the death of Senna um and
(56:24):
some other um and uh some otherdrivers.
Uh, where are we at here?
Corpse was further realigned toincrease a runoff while new and
slower stoves was constructed.
Uh the entry of Club was alsotightened in a new chicane
inserted into Abbey.
You know, Jason, if we couldjust talk F1 here for a second.
94.
Like, this is these this iswhere the cars are starting to
(56:46):
like be stupid fast.
Yeah, man.
Like car, like the tracks can'tkeep up with the technology of
the tracks they're racing at.
They were is that a fairstatement?
Yes, you know, yep.
So the biggest change we havehere is up to 96.
Let me change to 96 here.
And we'll just kind of slowlyclick through these because
(57:08):
there's very small changes um aswe get to modern day here.
So I'm gonna leave it at thatand just read the last bit of
updates here.
In 96, a better solution wasfound for the stow corner by
adding a gradual kink towardsthe end of the hangar straight,
moving the track inward towardsthe field, greater room created
for runoffs, and a faster stowum could be created and some
(57:31):
additional uh hanger or not hadhangar um, but pit updates.
So uh, team that's Silverstone.
Awesome track, super fun trackto race on iRacing.
The the formula racing there isworld class every year.
Um, super passionate fans.
Um, I think you have like uhlike I said, Aston Martin there,
(57:52):
McLaren and Mercedes F1headquarters are like within
five kilometers of the track.
Legendary track, too.
Yeah, here I'll stop this andwe can for some some people call
it Silverston.
You know, for some it'sSilverston, but you know, uh in
America, Silverstone,Silverstone.
Uh I will I will Yeah, I'm I'mI will say this, Jeff.
(58:15):
I was I was agreeing with youearlier.
I was kind of like, you know, you're saying that post-90s,
post-mid 90s, you know, cars gotextremely fast.
Um even in the late 80s, therewere freaking, they were they
were really hammering down outthere.
And it always starts out withthe track being just wide open,
(58:38):
and then they they're trying toslow them down um for safety
reasons and all kinds of stuff.
And you know same thing that'shappening in modern times.
Now we're looking at slowercars, you know, for for you know
f126.
So I don't know.
I I don't know why why can'tthey just expand the tracks,
(59:00):
make them bigger?
I don't know.
Um maybe it's a money thing,it's expensive.
I don't know.
Yeah, I don't know.
Uh George Russell had somecomments yesterday or today that
he said, hey, if F1's turnedinto a race to the first corner,
turn one.
Oh yeah, and then it's and thenit's over he's not wrong,
right?
There's so I guess as much as Idon't hate see I I'm not
(59:22):
thrilled with the cars getting Iguess you could say slower um
horsepower wise, you know, theactive arrow hopefully will be
cool.
But uh I guess I'd take it ifthere was just better uh racing,
more passing opportunities.
Um yeah.
I saw a comparison of like theF1 car size wise, and then like
(59:42):
the new one was like this big.
I'm like, what?
What are we driving our littlego-karts?
Like like half the size.
Jeff (59:50):
I hope F one knows what
they're doing here.
Jason (59:53):
I don't know.
I will say that you know, F1you know, George is known to
Make these comments, right?
And that we all know who he'stalking about.
As soon as that guy turns thecorner and he's got the open
air, he's gone.
He's gone and nobody's stoppinghim.
Uh, but that's kind of how it'salways been, right?
(01:00:13):
Because before Max, it used tobe Lewis.
Lewis would lap cars, you know,he'll be all by himself, way
out in the distance.
Um I just think that you knowwhat I think?
I think that, and and and thisis gonna be this is this is kind
of like controversial, or forsome, for the for the hardcore
(01:00:35):
fan.
I just think everyone shouldget the same car.
Everyone should get the samecar, same spec, and let's see,
yeah, and let's see who's thebetter racer.
Let's see who's the betterdriver.
You know, I think it's there'sgotta be a mix of that because
part of what makes F1 F1 is thetechnology and the um the R.
(01:00:59):
The shenanigans, right?
You're doing, you know.
And the shenanigans.
The shenanigans, the drama.
You got the Don King offreaking F1.
What's his name?
Um I forget his name.
He's always got shades on.
They kicked him off the the thethe uh the what do you call it?
Um the paddock, uh, and thenthey brought him back in.
(01:01:19):
What is his name?
Damn it.
He's back at Alpine.
Oh, you know who I'm talkingabout.
Alpine is the Alpine team or uhCEO or whatever.
And that guy, yeah, I can neverunderstand what he's talking.
It doesn't matter, but whateverpeople on people, it doesn't
matter because guys like thisguy, they get their way.
(01:01:40):
It doesn't matter how they getit, doesn't matter.
They pick up the phone andsomehow things happen.
Um and and you know, that'skind of it gives it, it gives
the sport character, right?
We're talking about Formula Onehere.
Sport gives it, it gives itthat much oomph to it, right?
And we watch Drive to Surviveand see all the behind the
(01:02:03):
scenes and all the shit thathappened that we missed on, and
you're like, oh snap, and that'skind of where he came from,
right?
You know, that's kind of how wefound out in detail how the
hell he came back.
I mean, there's some fans outthere that will stay on the new
sites and just you know, just goon a deep dive.
(01:02:23):
I don't like doing that becausewhen you start doing that and
the algorithm sees you do that, you get spoiled pretty bad if
you're not careful because youknow your entire feed is now F1
focused or racing.
But uh Flavio Fire Flavio Torah.
(01:02:44):
He might as he might as well beDon King, bro.
That's the Don King of freakingFormula One.
That's it.
Jeff (01:02:50):
No, can Flavio comb can
Flavio comb his hair?
Take off those stupid glasses,bro.
Jason (01:02:57):
He's got these funky
glasses, he's trying to stay
with the times.
This guy's like a billionaire,right?
He's like a big he doesn't needto be there.
He's he's gonna be able to doit.
Jeff (01:03:05):
He doesn't give a shit
what Jeff Smart's got to say.
Jason (01:03:07):
No, you don't.
No, he don't.
All right, well, Jeff, thankyou so much for re-viping track
of the week.
Finally, next week is on me,and I have I have something
ready to go already, uh, as wellas we all.
And yeah, um, you know, simracing expos.
(01:03:30):
You know, there's another onehappening here in Charlotte, and
it's hosted by the very sameteam in Dortman.
And then we get to recycle andstart all over again, you know.
So I don't know.
We're thinking about we'rethinking about this one.
We're thinking about this nextone.
I think it's May, right?
Or April.
May or April?
(01:03:51):
It's for the Coca-Cola 600.
Yes.
Uh is it in August?
Jeff (01:03:57):
I thought it was August.
Jason (01:03:58):
All right, we're gonna do
a fact check while while Jeff's
doing a fact check.
Um, I'm pretty sure it's likeApril, bro.
Um, yeah, so it's gonna bringup a huge crowd.
It's gonna have NASCAR, uh theCoca-Cola 600.
Um a few friends of mine aregoing over there, and I don't
know.
I I don't know.
It's just it's hard travelingfrom Hawaii, especially in
(01:04:23):
traveling all the way across theyou know, halfway around the
world for like three days andthen turn around.
That that one is a nice uh it'sdifficult.
But yeah, the Charlotte, whatis it, the Charlotte Sim Racing
Expo?
Yeah, I'm seeing the Coco Gol600 is May 24th weekend.
(01:04:45):
That's a Sunday.
So it was May.
So you are right, May, which isgreat, better than August.
It is, it's that's like thestart of the summer right there,
basically.
So um, but yeah, man, that'sall we got for today.
Uh Jeff, do you have any uhlast calls here?
Anything you want to put outbefore we go?
Jeff (01:05:04):
I don't think so, buddy.
I don't think so.
You got anything?
Jason (01:05:09):
I have nothing.
Send it, buddy.
Well, um so you have nothing.
I'm sorry.
I know it's been a while, bro.
Slipping away.
Hey, everybody get in that rigand uh drive the hell out of
their car, whatever they'redriving, and drive fast and
break late.
There you go.
There you go, Jeff.
So drive fast and break late.
(01:05:32):
And to those that uh don'tbreak late, uh, just move out
the way, I guess.
I don't know.
I don't know.
Jeff (01:05:43):
Just don't hit anybody as
you're going smoking through the
torrent.
That's that's it, man.
Jason (01:05:46):
