Jason (00:35):
This episode is brought
to you by Trophyai.
We discuss all things in thesim racing world.
I'm your host, jason Rivera, and I'm joined here by Mr Eric
Kelly and Mr Daniel Newman fromDaniel Newman Racing.
How is everybody doing today?
Erick (00:51):
Doing good man doing good
, I'm good.
Daniel (00:54):
thanks for having me
again.
Jason (00:57):
Danny.
It's been a long time man Dannyand I have been speaking about,
you know, his coming back tothe show and we're just trying
to find a good time and I don'tknow, this is like the perfect
scenario because of all thewonderful things that have been
happening in the sim racingworld.
(01:17):
If you're not caught up, we arehere to help with that and it's
an absolute honor to you know,Danny's been a huge friend of
the show, a huge supporter ofthe show as well.
So thank you so much, Danny, for allowing the time and your
busy schedule.
You know, I know how it is man,and especially the time zone,
(01:39):
because, if you can see byEric's picture, it's an odd time
.
Yeah, it's a little odd timethat we're doing.
But you know, I told Daniel Iwas like Daniel.
We need to find a happy mediumbecause we're on the same earth.
You know, we're on the sameearth, it's just a different
time of day.
I guess we're in the past, he'sin the future.
(02:01):
I'm going to stay down, yeah, alittle bit, a little bit Sleep
when you die.
That's what Jeff says.
And Jeff unfortunately couldn'tmake it.
It's always something If DanielNewman comes on the show.
Well, no, no, he was here forthe Christmas party.
Erick (02:16):
Yeah, he was here, I
wasn't here.
It's like can't get everybodyon at the same time for some
reason.
I don't know what it is.
Jason (02:23):
It's just, you know, it's
just different strokes for
different folks, I guess, Idon't know.
But anyways, a littleannouncements here.
I have none other than the sunburnt down my face.
I had some time off and wasvisiting family down in Puerto
Rico and I was having the timeof my life, and I I'm actually
(02:48):
happy to be home, though I'mhappy to be back here in front
of the camera, but batteries aredefinitely recharged to max, so
nice.
Eric, what about you, brother?
How's, how was your week andwhat's been going on with you
brother?
Erick (03:09):
Week was good.
I made what I think is apivotal upgrade to my rig.
As you can see behind me here,I finally got rid of the Honda
Civic seat and got a legitimateracing seat oh snap, oh, you
legit now Okay.
Yeah, yeah, man, and in my minda seat's a seat right, keeps you
put off the ground, lets youpress the brake gas, all that
(03:29):
stuff, and once you get a realseat, not knocking you know, I
got my civic seat.
It's still right here.
My girls like to sit in andpretend like they're driving a
car and stuff, but there arebenefits to having a legitimate
racing seat.
I can say that the stability isunmatched.
It makes sense.
Jason (03:48):
Right which we, of course
, will get some deeper thoughts
on that with all your upgrades.
But I'm happy to see that it'skind of cool right when you're
building a rig and it's gradualand any little upgrade just
makes it.
It makes you want to tryeverything again, like, oh, let
(04:09):
me see how this feels, let mesee how that.
Daniel (04:11):
Oh yeah.
Jason (04:11):
Oh, let me adjust this
now that I have the ability to
adjust the seat a little furtherin the key in the in the seats
case.
Right, yeah, so those are thethings that I'm kind of jealous
about, because once you haveeverything, there's a lot of the
.
The next upgrade is motion, andthat is expensive.
Oh yeah, those are the bigbucks.
Erick (04:36):
Oh yeah.
Jason (04:38):
All right, man.
Well, thank you so much forsharing that.
We will get back to that in afuture episode, but we will have
to put that on hold.
Mr daniel newman, tell me how'sit going over there in the uk,
the beautiful uk.
What's going on?
Daniel (04:53):
it's hot right now.
It's a heat wave right now andin the uk is not built for heat.
So people say, oh, you know, you go on holiday and you get
the heat and then you getengland heat.
England heat is different, okay, so here buildings are built to
keep the heat in because itrains lots and it's normally
(05:16):
cold.
So when it gets hot here, well,it gets hot, hot, it gets
really hot and and people walkaround and, um, people look like
they're going to just pass outeverywhere because it's just,
it's just so sweaty.
So currently there's a heatwave.
Um, best room in this house isthis room because there's air
con.
So, there you go, lose me allthe time and I come and sit out
(05:38):
here.
I'm nice and cool.
People like where are you?
And I, and I said to my wifeyesterday I actually got too
cold at work today.
Look at me and I was like, oh,I know what I've done.
So, yeah, it's, it's hot rightnow, but it's good, it's good,
england is good today, thank youso so what's the heat wave in
england?
(05:58):
what's the?
Numbers so we do celsius here, not fahrenheit, so I don't know
what we're converting this to,but roughly 33 degrees celsius,
which in england is like 90something hot and then it's just
it's.
It's just a really humid it'sjust a humidity yeah that's what
(06:19):
it is.
It's, it's just not nice andthere's no breeze.
So when it's hot, it's not noteven like you know.
You go on holiday and you gonear the sea and you get the
breeze from the ocean and it'snice, right, but there's none of
that.
So you're just literallystanding there feeling your body
melt down itself and it's justnot nice, oh man it sucks.
Jason (06:41):
It's time to take a trip,
man.
Come down to Hawaii, man, with50, 50 all year round, all year
round.
I appreciated that when I cameback from puerto rico.
Man, I'll tell you uh I got offthe plane and it was like 85
degrees and a fresh air likenice breeze, um nice.
So that's what's up, man.
I mean, you guys really get alot of rain over there and it
(07:06):
it's cold like 90 of the time.
So I guess, what do you dealwith it?
Daniel (07:10):
maybe two months, right,
you would say yes, weird, um,
we get like the the odd randomday maybe but wait a minute.
Jason (07:18):
Dnr has a jacuzzi now.
Man, dn's been many upgrades.
I know I spilled it early.
Daniel (07:25):
But this thing, like you
, you, I finished work for a day
and then this is it.
I'm done my wife's like whatyou're doing.
I'm getting in the tub, I'mgetting the jacuzzi.
Jason (07:35):
Well, what did you buy it
for?
You know right, you bought itfor something to use it well I'm
winding up and some of my bestideas in the jacuzzi.
Daniel (07:42):
So that's it like you
know to know, the next big idea
probably was probably be trimmedup sitting in my jacuzzi you
didn't make a sign for it, likethe thinking pod or the thinking
, tub thinking, something likethat the think tank.
Jason (07:55):
Yeah, I mean, listen, I
don't knock anybody if you.
If you have that in your houseand you're not using it, then
there's something wrong with you.
You know, hell, yeah, there'ssomething wrong with you.
So get in there, do a livestream from in there.
I can't bother to do a livestream in there.
He's like who's going to clickon this video with me in a hot
(08:17):
tub, bro?
I was like just from the neckup bro, just you know.
Daniel (08:22):
But anyways.
Jason (08:29):
Naked English dude up bro
, just you know.
But anyways, naked englishspouting about sim racing, we
must get into the meat andpotatoes here, or the beans on
toast, as mr daniel loves to eat, which I still don't understand
.
I really I tried, I tried toget there.
Then he gave me shit about spamin hawaii, so that's another
conversation.
But, daniel, new racing, danDNR has been.
You know it's.
We always talk about it, wealways talk about the led
(08:51):
profiles and we always talkabout how you're, you're adding
devices to the repertoire.
But then at some point wecrossed or or or not we.
But you crossed not a line line, but you crossed a point where
you said, well, now that I havethis foundation for leds on
(09:12):
basically all the sims and everysingle car and it's one-to-one,
and now that that's kind oflike refined, like, what do we
do next?
And I I'm just, I'm excited topresent that here with you and
go through it with you.
And I'm pretty sure you haveyour followers and they into it
(09:33):
that this is revolutionary.
This is something that tieseverything together.
It's something that I've alwayswanted.
You know what I mean.
It's kind of like I'm that typeof person that if I buy a
(09:55):
McLaren and I have that McLarenmoney, then I want the McLaren
key chain, I want the McLarenseat covers, I want the McLaren.
Uh, whatever it's a shirt, thehat, the socks you know I want
it all to be in the same family, right?
So that way, when I go to drivemy car, that's it.
(10:17):
When I go into my simulator,it's one thing.
I don't have to have thisplugin and that plugin and I was
telling Eric about this man,you guys got to be careful with
Tim Hub.
When you load up these randomplugins, right, that are doing
their talk, they're doing thingsthat you don't know what
they're doing first of all, andyou have them running in there
(10:38):
and then all of a sudden, yourgame crashes, or all of a sudden
you have a lag spike, and thenall of a sudden, you're trying
to hunt for a problem, and themore complex you know, the more
plugins you add, the harder itis to find that problem.
So you know, daniel Newman hasyour LEDs Now.
(10:59):
He has dashboards, now he has,he controls my lights, he
controls, um, pretty mucheverything in the rig.
When it comes to, uh, thevisual aspect of it, I would say
because, because you don't dohaptics yet, I say, yet who
knows, yeah, but you don't.
There's not a profile forhaptics, but again, it's a
(11:20):
one-stop shop, there's.
No, there's one, it's a singleplugin.
And have you seen this plugin?
It is by far the best freakingSimHub plugin I've ever seen.
It's so good that it looks likeit's not even part of SimHub.
It looks like it's its own app.
Erick (11:37):
Exactly yeah.
Jason (11:39):
Let me stop the praise
here and let me give this to the
man himself, because that'swhat he's here for, and Daniel.
So the first thing was thefirst question for you, uh, was
what was the primary motivationbehind developing dashboards?
I know the endurance dashboardis kind of like your top tier,
(11:59):
that is your yeah fine, likethat's everything that you guys,
you know, have been buildingtowards.
You know up towards.
You know you started gradual, but just, you know, give us a
small explanation on whatmotivated you, because you
already have.
You have your business LEDs,your service, right Service, and
(12:20):
it's an LED, it's LEDs, andthat's how you started.
So just give us a quicksynopsis on that.
Daniel (12:29):
So I think we started
off because we've worked
incredibly hard.
I say we so of course, this ismyself, thomas and Nico.
There's a team of three of usthat do this and as a team, we
work incredibly hard to keepdelivering new things.
We always say you know, how dowe find something to beat this?
Or to this feature, and everysingle release it gets bigger.
(12:52):
So I always say you know, thisis the biggest release yet.
And we get to the next one andI'm like, wow, this is the
biggest release yet.
And then again and it alwayshappens we're all working really
hard to develop and make surethat everything is as good as it
can be.
But we, as users and this isreally important for us is we're
not just here to make a productand shill it to customers and
(13:14):
say, hey, buy this, it's good.
We do this because we use it.
And that was the fundamentalimportant thing for us is, from
day one, we make things that weuse and that we're happy with,
and if we're not happy with it,we're not releasing it and it
has to be perfect.
So, as users, we hit this pointwhere we were like, okay, we
think that we've got.
You know, leds aren't nailed, because we're always doing new
(13:36):
things, new features and makingthem better.
But we know we're on the righttrack and things are getting
good.
But the thing that we feelwe're lacking on at the moment
is dashboards.
And this started off primarilybecause there was one genre of
racing specifically that we werelooking for a dashboard and it
didn't exist, or at least itdidn't exist in what we would
call a dnr flavor.
And we've got, I guess, acertain standard that we look
(13:58):
for and and it wasn't there.
So, you know, we looked out andnobody made a dashboard for
rally sim.
That was kind of what we wanted.
We wanted a minimum right thatdelivered simple data in a way
that looked great.
So design ux is reallyimportant as far as dnr is
concerned.
And so we decided look, youknow, we've reached out.
(14:20):
Nobody's making a rallydashboard, at least yet.
Let's make a rally dash.
And that was our firstdashboard.
And we made the rally dash.
Um, the reception was fantastic.
It had huge amounts ofdownloads.
People loved it and said, hey,you know, I really like this.
You should do some moredashboards.
So we said, you know, okay, itwasn't the intent.
(14:41):
We kind of made a product thatwe one thing leads to another.
Yeah, our gap um, but we, wealso had this ideology and
mindset that a lot of thingsit's very difficult to make a
product that's generic acrossevery sim, every car and have it
work in a functional way.
And at this point I thinkeverything we were using was
(15:02):
kind of that.
It was a one-size-fits-allapproach, and for dnr at least,
we didn't think that there was aone-size-fits-all.
So people that were rallyingneeded to have a more simplistic
approach.
And then, equally, we had a ause case for oval racing.
Um, so we have like nascar'sindycar, and then we developed
our speedway dash, which, again,is primarily aimed at oval
(15:24):
racing.
So it needs to have more datathan a rally dash because there
are some stuff going on trackbut at the same time, it doesn't
want to be too busy becausethere's a risk of putting too
much data so that makes senseyes, speedway was born and we
said look, we don't want to makea dash for every discipline
because it starts to get alittle bit confusing and muddy,
(15:45):
but there are some disciplinesthat need to have a specific
dashboard and we felt oval wasone of them and we also felt
that rally was another.
As that kind of went on and wewe looked at this, people still
said to us this is, this isamazing, you must make a road
dash.
We were like, okay, there'slots of dashboards out there
right now that that do a youknow a good enough job.
(16:06):
Um, and there are populardashboards.
If we make a dash, it has to bedifferent.
We do not want to reskin andremake and just basically
deliver in a different flavorwhat everybody you didn't want
to carbon copy something, ofcourse right we we said, okay,
let's, let's investigate, and wespent lots of time um research,
talking to people, and that'skind of how we then got involved
(16:29):
with Daniel Morad, of course, professional GT3 racing driver.
Daniel's experience in realrace cars.
Jason (16:37):
Two-time Rolex world
champion.
Daniel (16:39):
Yeah, he's got the
trophies to say that he knows
what he's doing.
But he's also a fantastic simracer with a really good sim
racing team called Moradnus, hislifestyle brand.
They've got their own simracing team, the M Squad.
So we said look, daniel, wewould like to make a road dash
and we want to make a road dashthat's different.
We don't want to just beanother dashboard that throws
(17:02):
everything on the screen and,you know, delivers this in this
way.
We want this.
But for drivers like youprofessional, real life drivers
to say this is different gravy.
So daniel said listen, I'mlooking for a dash like this.
I've been trying to develop adash like this for a long time
and I haven't been able to do it.
Let's do it.
So we spent a long time workingreally closely with Daniel,
(17:27):
with the whole M squad, todevelop this dash, and I would
say we spent many, many, manyweeks before we even entered
into SimHub.
So there was hours, weeks, days, probably even into months
worth of design and UI work thathappened.
Thomas is pivotal in thedashboard creation and his
(17:50):
influence, his design elements.
Thomas is an absolute geniusand, whilst Nico is absolutely
the wizard of LEDs the thingsthat Nico does with me in LEDs
is phenomenal.
Thomas is what I would calldashboard king and his design
was just sensational.
So we developed this productwith daniel and we said look,
this is what we're going to do.
It went through many iterationswhere we we decided, you know
(18:14):
this, this could be tweaked, this could be bettered.
We liked the concept and thenwe kind of ran with it and then
we had this you know this planfor when we would look to
release, etc.
Etc.
Um, and we even got as far aswe were about to open SimHub and
start the creation of thedashboard and Thomas said no, no
, we can't do it, it's not itand even at the like, it's
(18:36):
almost like the 11th hour.
We're about to make this dash.
We're saying, no, it's notready, there's more to be done.
And this is how much attentionto detail I think.
When you use the dash you kindof start seeing the attention to
detail elements and you're like, okay, um, and this is kind of
what went into it.
So that's when endurance wasborn.
We said, okay, we're going tomake this dash that works for
(18:56):
road racing.
So it's called endurance.
Um, it's confused some peoplebecause it doesn't mean you can
only use it in an endurance.
It is just aimed for gt stylecars, for lmp cars, hyper cars,
that kind of thing.
Um, but it's called endurance.
That it's our name.
Our dash is our rally speedwayand endurance.
But the endurance dash is whatwe would now consider to be our,
(19:16):
our flagship dashboard.
Jason (19:19):
Um that is now my main
and primary dashboard.
I'll tell you and I had no idea, and Daniel and I talk a lot
and he's very I don't know.
You know how to keep thesethings under wrap, but then when
you release something and Idon't mean to interrupt guys,
but I have to say this, likethis is unscripted.
(19:41):
I don't have this written downnowhere.
This is unscripted.
I don't have this written downnowhere.
When you release something andit's a V1, it's a version one
and I have every single thingworking.
I don't have.
Well, let me work, let me getsome time to work on this.
No, this is a dashboard that gotinstalled.
Maybe there was a bug or two.
I mean, nothing's perfect,right, Daniel?
(20:02):
We have to say it here, absolutely, and you guys were
all over it because I came backfrom vacation.
I went on vacation, thedashboard went into beta.
If you're a team principal whichis awesome, by the way you're a
team principal for DanielNewman.
They always have new things foryou to try, so I would give
(20:22):
that a go, and they have yourown little lounge too.
You all chat about things andyou get that sneak peek on
what's coming.
But, man, when I come back home.
V1 is out, I install it, I loveit.
I take videos of it, pictures, send it to Daniel and he's like
yeah, man, it's ready.
(20:42):
And it's exactly what he'strying to say here.
It's like he's not going torelease something that's not
ready, he's not going to pushsomething out that he doesn't.
How do you say this?
You're not going to pushsomething out that you wouldn't
like.
You know what I'm saying andthat's the same way I am with
the show, that's the same way Iam with everything, and that's
(21:12):
how we all should live, man,I'll tell you.
So hats off to this dashboard.
We're gonna go into it.
I just the emotions come out.
Let me slow down, let me giveit back to daniel, go ahead
daniel, continue the story.
Daniel (21:17):
this is kind of where
endurance was born, really, um,
it is our flagship dashboard, our plugin you mentioned.
Again, really, really proud ofthat, thomas works so hard, bro.
Jason (21:27):
Your plugin is dope.
Yeah, it's nice, it's sobeautiful.
Daniel (21:31):
The dashboard for me is
different to others because it's
obviously the UI is drasticallydifferent.
I think a lot of the commentsI've seen on it so far from
people are like this just looksinsane, it's just so nice to use
and that's amazing for us tohear and amazing particularly I
like thomas to hear those thingsbecause the effort that went
(21:52):
into that ui was phenomenal andum and to hear people say,
function aside, this looksinsane.
So that's great.
But the plugin, which I thinkalso looks fantastic.
There's so much customizationin there and there's so many
unique features that otherdashboards just don't have and
customizations that users canmake it look and feel like their
(22:15):
own dashboard.
There's already in version one, lots of customizations, you
know, choosing the size of youralerts or the pop-ups or changes
.
I loved ooh.
Jason (22:26):
Yeah, that was cool Dude.
That was so dope and it's notjust one size for all no, you
can change the size of differentelements and have it.
If you want it, full screen, and then you want.
Oh, but when I get a, a yellowflag and that debris, now you
have the debris um debris ordebris whatever Debris warning.
Erick (22:46):
Dude, that is so sick man
, I love that.
Daniel (22:49):
And that's important for
us is that we deliver all that
information, and every driver'sgot a different preference, so
we can't just say to you this ishow you're going to get it, no,
no, no, you tell me how youwant it, we'll provide the
options and then you customizethat in your dashboard.
Jason (23:09):
And you can have it per
sim too, and it'll automatically
switch.
So I have my iRacing thing setup and whenever it loads iRacing
, um dnr knows that oh, you'replaying iRacing.
Let me switch to your iRacingprofile.
And that talks to listen guys.
That talks to my wheel.
It talks to the lights above me.
It talks to the dashboard.
It talks to Copilot, which wehaven't even mentioned.
(23:30):
We haven't even touched on thatyet.
It talks on browse.
If you have them, it's like youpress one button.
You know what I mean?
That's what I was trying toallude to earlier is kind of
having the same thing in thesame family.
What I was trying to allude toearlier is kind of having the
same thing in the same family.
Right, and these things have acost.
But I mean it's kind of like IfI was already happy paying for
(23:53):
LEDs and now you're giving memore at the same price, it's
kind of like, yeah, the supportyou know what I mean your return
on support is by far the bestout of any service I've paid for
.
I tell you right now, on a simracing, it is hands down.
It is hands down, you know, because you could have said, oh,
(24:17):
I'm going to have to charge youfor this extra feature.
I'm going to have to charge youfor that other feature and it's
kind of like no listen, you'resupporting me.
This is DNR.
Dnr is not just LEDs.
Dnr is becoming its ownecosystem, like Danny Newman
racing right.
It's all you know.
Yeah, I'm sorry again, let meuh let me give it.
Erick (24:41):
I want to.
I want to jump in because youmentioned the debris thing and
being able to adjust the size ofthose warnings and those like
this is going to be.
I'm new to iRacing.
I would have to Google thatflag after a race.
When it came up, I would alwaysforget what it was the striped
(25:03):
red yellow flag.
I just like, probably like acouple of weeks ago, like was
able to remember real time whileI was racing what that flag
meant.
And the first time I wasrunning your new endurance dash
and it popped up and it saiddebris, I was like that's worth
the money, not only that, dude,it's just like I'm driving and
(25:24):
endurance racing is my thing.
Jason (25:25):
We just did a 24 hour
Nurburgring and Daniel and I
talk and I know he was workingon the dashboard or he had
mentioned it on his Discord tooI was like, dude, can you get me
this dashboard for this event?
Because I really and he wasvery, you know, Daniel was very
foot down.
(25:45):
He's like no, I can't releaseit until it's ready for the
public.
I'm not going to release brokensoftware, I'm not going to.
You know, who knows what couldhave happened if you would have
released something and wouldhave crashed something on my
program or whatever my SimHub.
And then I'm in the middle of a24 hour race.
I will say this the low fuelwarning is one of my favorite
(26:09):
features.
It's just a subtle thing, right?
So my whole entire rig goes redwhen I'm low on fuel and then I
have a button that says okay onthe wheel and I press it and it
goes away.
Erick (26:22):
That is, come on, man,
that that's a touch of reality,
you know it's kind of like.
Jason (26:28):
It's kind of like yeah, I
know, I, I understand.
And it's kind of like well, youunderstand, motherfucker, if
you run out of fuel, excuse myfrench.
Uh, you okayed it so that's allyou.
Daniel (26:40):
You accept so many
things, man, so many things it's
good to have the customizationand be able to say as the driver
, because you know like you, yousay I've got my low fuel alert.
I can see it, I'm going to pressokay and I'm going to hide it,
but somebody else would say I'llforget that in three corners,
I'll keep the alert there orother people, exactly, it's your
choice yeah, I want alerts onmy dashboard to look in this
(27:00):
style and I think we offer threedifferent styles, or turn them
off, and we split that out for, like you said, various types of
flags, um, different alerts, warnings, that kind of stuff,
because we understand that forsome people, flags are really
important.
Make that full screen.
Other people like I want toknow, but don't ruin my
dashboard over it.
Other people say, well, I wantthis warning in this size and
(27:24):
and I think that the good thingabout the plugin is it's as easy
as going into plugin and justpressing tick, tick, you choose
your options and then it's doneand they're live too, so there's
no restarting plugins.
Jason (27:36):
Yeah, you don't have to
restart SimHub or nothing like
that.
Daniel (27:40):
And it just works, I
think.
Jason (27:42):
And you went a step
further.
I have to pull this out andthen we'll continue on with the
next question.
We're still on the firstquestion, but he went a step
further and this has never beendone before and this has never
been done before.
If you guys see this in anydashboard out there, just know
that it was done by Mr DanielNewman.
First, you don't have to have afourth monitor, no more to
(28:05):
control your Sim Hub.
Let's say you want to controlsomething.
He added a touch interfaceinside the dashboard where you
can make changes, not just toyour wheel, to your LEDs, to
your dashboards.
All your options are inside thewheel.
I don't need.
For those of you that have ascreen in the wheel, right?
(28:28):
Or if you have a DDU, you cancontrol it that way, right?
Daniel (28:30):
Yeah.
Jason (28:32):
So let me just make sure
I say that.
Erick (28:34):
So I got to jump in here
again.
Jason (28:36):
And then we'll continue
on after this.
Erick (28:38):
Go ahead, Eric I promise
we'll move on, but I mentioned
this to Jason when I was testingit out.
I don't know if this wasintentional, but, hands down, if
you're a console player GT7,being able to modify all of
those from the screen withouthaving to go to a PC or any of
that stuff is priceless.
(28:58):
It's priceless.
I don't know what everybodyelse's setup is.
I know when I first started Iwas running some hub just on a
laptop plugged up to my stuff,so it sucked to have to go down.
And you know, go down to thelaptop every time you want to
change or modify something.
Yeah, yeah, especially if you'resetting stuff up for the first
time and tweaking Like that, like just being able to do
everything from the DDU, fromthe, the, the dashes that is,
(29:22):
that was beautiful, and this isThomas magic.
So there's so many things thatout to Thomas man, shout out to
Thomas Thomas.
Daniel (29:31):
We were working.
Take care of yourself, Thomas.
Jason (29:33):
We need you good and
healthy.
We're working.
Take care of yourself, Thomas.
Daniel (29:36):
We need you good and
healthy.
We were working on Copilot andthere were some updates to
release and, bless Thomas, thomas works really hard and I
come up with ideas and I'm like, hey, we could do this.
And Thomas is like listen, thelist is like 20 things long.
But it's one day we have a longlist and I was like Thomasomas,
(29:56):
come on, the list is big.
And thomas is like I've justthought of this feature.
I wonder if we could do this.
And I was like, yeah, man, thelist is big, what?
And he showed me and I was like, well, the list can wait.
And we started like designingthis thing up and, um, he a test
and said, right, go and run itand test it.
(30:17):
And I got in the rig and, youknow, we fired it up and I
loaded up on the dashboard, opened control panel which is
what we call it control panel, and you can do it from any dash
that we support.
And then all of a sudden I cancycle through all of my wheel
LED themes or turn the spottersor the something off.
And I was like was like, yeah, wow, this is well, that's dope
(30:38):
man.
Jason (30:38):
What if it?
What if you're strained andyou're?
You know, I just got through a24-hour race.
What if I don't want flashinglights or whatever?
Or what if I want to?
You know, I don't have to tabfirst of all.
Good luck tabbing out whileyou're doing 200 miles an hour
on the straight or into abraking zone.
(30:59):
There's no possible way you'regoing to have time to do that,
and if you do, you're the goat.
But for me it's a press on my,it's a little touch and I take
the turn and then I touchanother button and then I take
another.
I can take my time is what I'msaying.
And I can make those adjustmentsas I go.
So, daniel, it's so nice I haveto move on with this interview,
(31:23):
this catch up or hang out withthe boys.
But, eric, you have the nextquestion for Daniel.
Let's keep it moving.
There's so many amazing thingswe want to show you, so, um,
let's, let's keep this portionof going so we can get to that
part.
Erick (31:43):
Yeah, and you, you kind
of touched on this earlier, but,
um, I was just curious whatwere, I guess, some of the
specific um challenges like insim racing that you guys were
trying to solve?
Like I know being able tomodify things all on the dash,
but was there like a specificproblem?
You know outside of this whaty'all's own wish list, but
something you saw in otherdashes and you're like we need
(32:04):
to fix that.
This can be better yeah.
Daniel (32:07):
So I think, um, one of
the big things that we spoke
about with daniel morad was, um,the way information is
displayed.
So a lot of dashboards will tryto pack information on a
dashboard and it's in a way thatmakes it hard to find, hard to
read, it's too small, or there'sjust something about the
readability that isn't quitethere, and I wouldn't say that
we have it perfect and that, youknow, this is the Holy Grail.
(32:31):
I think it's fantastic.
Jason (32:34):
It's a V a v1, bro, it's
a v1.
Daniel (32:38):
It's pretty damn good,
already it's pretty damn good,
danny, for v1, you know layingthe data out is really hard, was
really hard and there's designelements that we wanted to keep
that were important to us.
So one of the features that Ithought people might find
marmite but for me is is youknow it makes it out and it's
the center portion of enduranceworks on a gauge system.
(32:59):
So there is a large centralgear telling you which gear
you're in.
Left and right of that there'sa small indicator telling you
what the next gear and theprevious gear is, which people
say but you know if I'm infourth, I know I can go to fifth
.
I know I can go to fifth.
I know I can have a third.
You do.
But when you get to you know ina car that's got seven gears,
when you hit um you know seven.
Erick (33:17):
It won't show you.
That makes sense.
Daniel (33:19):
I didn't think about
that, so you know that you've
not got anything left, you're atmax.
And then beside that twovertical gauges which have got
um changeable information, sothey use rpms as standard.
And again, this is importantfor us because not everybody has
got a dashboard with leds andstuff.
People use the dashboard asoverlays etc, etc.
(33:40):
So those gauges use our carspecific rpm data.
So the red line points areexactly matched to dnr led
profiles.
So if you can't display ledsfor some reason, you can rely on
those gauges to say I'mshifting at the right moment,
which is important.
Jason (33:56):
This makes sense, man
Cause most of us sim racers I
mean, we're nice, this is thebest community to be in, but we
tend to be a little selfish, right?
Because we're like well, Ialready have this, I already
have that, but we're notthinking about those that don't
have that Right.
We're not thinking about thosethat are just starting out.
They don't have dashboards,they don't have DDUs, they don't
(34:17):
have anything.
So they're like why should Ijoin up with DNR and sign up,
when it's catered to those thathave a specific device and I
think that's a great way ofgoing about it is saying hey,
man, if you ain't got a thousandplus dollar wheel, it doesn't
(34:39):
matter, we can take care of youthis way.
You know we can.
You can give you the data thatyou're looking for and then
later on guess what your wheelcan do way more stuff.
But for now, we'll get yougoing with this.
That's awesome.
Daniel (34:52):
And that's important for
us.
So, to make it accessible andaccessible.
Yes, those gauges have gotdifferent customizational
behaviors which mean you candisplay, you know I love that.
Jason (35:03):
I'm already using it as
fuel, bro.
Daniel (35:06):
It's nice so, um, making
sure the ui was perfect was
probably one of the biggestchallenges and, like I said, we
had we readdressed that manytimes.
We thought this is, this isnailed on.
No one complained, but we stillsaid now we can make this
better, let's do it again.
And then the second, probablythe biggest thing and I would
say we haven't publicly solvedthis yet, but we are working on
(35:29):
it at least and that is um.
I see it all the time mentioned, and it's good to address it
now is Lamar and ultimate as aSIM.
Now you doesn't output to SIMhub very much in the way of
telemetry.
It uses an old um and RF2plugin.
Jason (35:45):
Yeah, they're
piggybacking off the old stuff.
Daniel (35:48):
So there's very, very
little data in SIM hub for LMU.
Now there are people out theretoday that will tell you.
But you can get all this datain SimHub, okay, and what
they're doing is there's a thingcalled shared memory, where you
can basically go in the backdoor of the game and you can
pull data out and you can showit to SimHub and you can expose
it.
That way, whilst it does workon paper, it's unreliable and it
(36:14):
can cause um crashes to sim hubbecause it's quite intensive in
memory.
So when you've got lots ofthings running in sim hub so if
you've got multiple plugins fordata, for dashboards, for leds,
to now draw in lmu data, youcould be on your final lap at p2
after an endurance race and simhub crashes and dies and your
game is gone.
You've just lost the race.
(36:35):
For us that's not good enough ifwe can't give it to you
reliably.
We're not going to give it,because there's no point giving
you information for you to goout and that's correct for the
right to be ruined.
So that information is.
Um is difficult, but we areworking on it.
We want to find a way of ofdelivering it in such a way that
your dashboard doesn't keelover or simhub doesn't keel over
(36:57):
.
So lots of things that we cando are doing, have done, worked
on, still working on, etc.
To make sure that lmu is moreaccessible.
But at no point we're notsaying you can't have it because
we just haven't implemented itor because we don't know or you
know whatever.
Simhub can't do it and that'snot sim hub's fault, it's the
game.
The developers have saidtelemetry is coming at some
(37:19):
point natively.
We don't want to wait, so weare working on a solution that
means you do not need to go andinstall a third party plug-in,
etc.
Etc.
We want dnr to be you installour plug-in and you're done.
You don't have to go and relyon more people to get more
things working.
Come to us, download it, bish, bash, bong, um, and that's kind
(37:40):
of where we are today.
They're difficult things.
We've overcome the ui and weare overcoming the lmu one, so
um so it's not just you know theone and done, right, you're.
Jason (37:54):
You're actively trying to
solve things for the different
sims you know that are out there.
So I mean, hats off to you.
That's awesome.
You're.
You're working with a verylimited uh game, that's.
They're saying it's coming out,full release, right.
But yeah, those are things thatwe need prioritization on right
(38:19):
, because telemetry iseverything.
I don't care about the damngraphics or the things looking
pretty.
I need to know where I'm at, Ineed to understand where you
know.
Awareness is speed, right, that's just the way it is.
Awareness is speed.
If you're aware, you're fast.
If you're not aware, you'relost.
(38:41):
So let me move on to the nextquestion, because we're actually
going to do a small showcase ofthe wonderful, the many
wonderful things that the DNRteam is working on, working on,
excited for that one.
So this is this a very quickone, daniel.
So what was the biggestchallenge with this new
endurance dashboard?
(39:02):
Like what?
The one thing that sticks inyour head that you're like damn,
that was kind of hard but weovercame so and it's out now.
So what, what?
What comes to mind, daniel, when it comes to this biggest
challenge developing the newdashboard?
Daniel (39:15):
I think, other than the
things I've just said, because
they're still relevant, daniel, when it comes to this biggest
challenge developing the newdashboard I think, other than
the things I've just said, because they're still relevant,
the other biggest challenge Iwould say is ourselves.
So that sounds a bit strange.
We're very self-critical andsometimes it's great and
sometimes it's less great.
We are perfectionists andwhilst we're not perfect and
(39:38):
this dash is not perfect we, wewere always striving to make
something better.
And I think you run the risk ofyou have a product which is
great and you're saying, no,let's not go yet, let's make it
greater.
How much do you stop and keepdelaying before you say it's
enough, let's go, let's go.
And I think one of the problemswe had I say problems, it's,
(39:59):
it's good because we care and wetake pride in our work it is
that we, we reached a point andthe conclusion where we said
this is good, we could go withthis um, but we kept stopping
and going back and saying let'sdo this a little bit more, let's
just change this Um.
So I think one of the biggestdifficulties probably was
telling ourselves this is enough, this is good, um.
(40:22):
There was a lot of anticipation, I would say, about what would
be the reaction to endurance.
Um, ironically, it's beenincredible, um, but we always
were worried Is it going to beenough?
Will people actually like this?
Will they use this?
Shall we do this?
Shall we change that?
Um, and at the point that, youknow, we said okay, this is good
(40:43):
, let's go.
I think we let our hair down alittle bit, um, and it wasn't
probably until our teamprincipals got their their beta
phase and started testing it oh,I started reading through that.
Oh my god, this is I would saywe calmed down a bit then
because we had public feedbackthat said this is really good,
um, and it took the worry away.
(41:04):
So yeah, I think, probably forourselves we're quite critical.
We are you.
Yeah, you can breathe, right,daniel?
Jason (41:10):
I guess, right, you could
breathe again, because it's
kind of like we're dumping allthis work into one thing and if
it's badly received or peopledon't like it, then it's kind of
like, well, what do I do?
Like I'm going to have to startover.
You know what I mean.
So I tell you what for, and Ican't even say this, but there's
(41:30):
no other way to say it Right?
But for a version V1, itdoesn't look like a V1 version
of anything that I've tried.
Usually, a V1 is very simple, very basic, and then they
gradually add stuff to it,whoever it is that's making
these dashboards.
So, by coming home on vacationand installing this thing and
(41:54):
everything to be working wasimpressive, and not just
everything working, but featuresthat I don't have with other
dashboards that are inside thisdashboard.
That made me say, well, this isit for me.
Personally, I'm going to berunning this dashboard because
(42:15):
it has X, y and Z that help medo more things, and imagine that
this is a version one.
What's V2 going to have?
What's V3 going to have?
Which we might pick on Daniel'sbrain a little bit.
Erick (42:29):
No pressure.
Jason (42:31):
No, just a hint of
pressure, a pinch, just to see
if he breaks here on the show, but if he doesn't, we really
appreciate you and the time thatyou're putting into this.
Thank you.
A man that's, you know I have alot of respect for people like
that.
You know it's like you have afull time job.
He has a family in his houseand then he has the DNR stuff,
(42:54):
stuff on top of that.
Just imagine if you werefull-time.
I, I don't, I don't even imaginethe things that you can do as a
full-time um, yeah, developer,I guess, if you may so, but this
is your time to shine, mr danny.
Um, you got the stage.
If you can go ahead us, walk usthrough some of the many, the
(43:14):
beautiful, the beautifulness ofthe new dashboards, of the new
DNR stuff.
Uh, I can't wait.
Over to you.
Bro, want to have a live coachavailable on demand.
With Trophy AI, you'll be ableto practice with Mansell AI at
your convenience A real-timecoach in your headphones to
navigate and guide you throughthe track, helping you achieve
(43:37):
race pace.
This tool is awesome as itprovides full brake, throttle
and steering telemetry on screenwith a live review getting you
ready for your next big race.
Check links to trophy ai in thedescription and also use
chicane 12 in all caps for a 12discount I'm going to start and
I'm going to share a couple ofpictures with you, just to show
(43:57):
you.
Daniel (43:58):
Um, yes, you've never
seen endurance before and I've
got to this point and thinking Ihaven't even seen it yet.
Jason (44:04):
Um, what does it look
like?
Daniel (44:06):
let's, let's share and
um, and we'll start with this.
So this is endurance, um, or atleast this is.
This is part of endurance, because of course, endurance has
got so many customizations thatit changes a lot, but this is
our default theme.
So what we've got here is thatcenter portion which I mentioned
.
You've got the, the large gearand then the small gears either
(44:28):
side of it, and then we've gotour gauges.
Gauges here are currently beingused as RPMs, but we can change
those, so they can either bespotters, which will operate,
you know, left car, right car.
You can use them for fuel andenergy.
That's my favorite.
You can also change the style ofthe gauge, so we can remove
(44:48):
those dashed lines.
Jason (44:48):
I like the lines, bro.
I'm a fan of the lines.
But if you like a solid one,you can have the Sorry.
Straight up took his thunder, bro, I'm sorry.
Daniel (44:58):
There's customizations
in there We've also got.
In the right hand side you cansee A fuel Selection of data,
and in the left hand side youcan see a fuel selection of data
, and in the left you can see, just briefly, sectors, and we
call these two side segmentsadaptive display zones.
Okay, and in those adaptivedisplay zones, stick with me we
(45:20):
have adaptive display panels.
So we've got 12 panels that youcan pick from, um I'll show you
a quick clip of a video in asecond that goes through those
panels and um you'll see some ofthem in action.
But you know they have allsorts of things like a radar
track map, um a leaderboardrelative this is a v1.
Guys, listen tires yeah, pitinformation V1.
(45:44):
And they work fantastically.
And then we've got the bottomsegment.
So here you can see last lap, delta and best lap.
Now, again, that's customizable, so you can select the data
that you'd like here.
In there you've got lap times,as you can see.
Here you can also display fuelinformation that displays a
little bit more than is in theadaptive display zone, or you
(46:10):
can display opponent data, whichagain is really useful.
What you can't see here is someextra customizations, because
we're in a practice sessionwhich you can just about make
out.
Top left, the little Easter eggfeatures, so you know when the
temperatures change.
In the bottom left you getcolor-coded arrows telling you
which direction temperature haschanged.
You can identify as it yeah, getting cold, I can't remember.
(46:33):
It tells you, um, in the topright hand corner there are and
those of you probably weren'tall spotted this yet but if you
get to a podium place in therace and you are p1, p, p3, a
little trophy will appear besidethe position.
It's kind of cool, yeah.
Jason (46:47):
A nice little touch.
Daniel (46:48):
P1, p2, p3.
It doesn't stay if you lose andyou get into P4 and stuff.
But as you're going through therace, if you hold a podium
position, it will show you thatyour podium place is going to
get you a trophy.
It's a cool little Easter eggfeature but it looks really nice
and for me it's kind of youknow, if I'm nearing P4, I'm
like I need the trophy on thescreen.
I'm going to do it.
Jason (47:08):
I need that you take a
picture of it.
Yo, I got the trophy man.
I just want the trophy.
Daniel (47:13):
So there's so much
customization in here.
And then at the top of thescreen you can see the in-car
values.
These adapt depending on thecar you drive, the sim you're
racing.
So if the sim you're racing, soif you race in a car that's got
um front and rear arb, forexample, that will display there
.
If you're in a car that uses umers, that kind of thing,
battery deployment, that showsthere and it will show your
(47:34):
deploy levels, the status you'rein, so the dash changes.
What you see here is not fixed.
The dash it does, does movearound I love that it's not so
busy.
Jason (47:44):
You're talking about all
this data, but it changes
automatically for you.
It moves itself around, so it'snot like all crammed in a small
space.
You know what I'm saying.
I really appreciate that.
Daniel (47:59):
Something that I find I
use quite a lot now is in the
center, where we have thosegauges.
You can see, on the right gaugethere's a green bar at 77 to
the.
On the right gauge there's agreen bar at 77 and on the left
hand side there's a small redbar at four percent.
What this is doing ishighlighting my incredibly poor
driving skill and the fact thatI'm breaking whilst I'm
(48:19):
accelerating and that alwaysgets me, as people say, break to
around 80, and I always thinkas a, as a, not a quick driver.
What 80?
How do I know what 80 is?
I'm pushing my foot down is thisabout good, because other
dashboards all they show you isa line, they don't show you the
number and I say, okay, you said80, I'm around it, I've done it
(48:45):
and that makes me quicker as adriving tool, all the things
that we use.
If someone's coaching and theysay this corner, you know 50%
break, or when you throttle here, don't full throttle it.
Give it maybe 60%, 70% and thengo.
I can look at my dash now andgo, yeah, cool, I'm about that,
and if I'm not, next lap I'llgive it more, I'll give it less,
(49:08):
I'll check the dash again andthen you'll learn the muscle
memory.
Jason (49:11):
So for me that works
quite well, I was just about to
say that that's a great tool tolearn where and how much.
That's awesome.
Daniel (49:18):
So then, the other cool
features about this are themes.
This is Marmite to some people, but we were in our design
program one day, me and Thomasand we co-work in there and
Thomas was making some changesand I was watching him work and
he inverted the dash colors andhe didn't do it on purpose, I
don't think Um, and I was likewhoa, whoa and he did it too,
(49:42):
and he was like whoa, whoa andwe said this is cool as this,
and so we decided straight no,chase, daniel, you can live it
out here you don't need thebleep here even though I love
the bleep.
But so let me, um, let me showyou the?
Um, the light theme now.
(50:04):
So we have a dark theme, um,and we also have a light theme.
So this is endurance light.
So this is a different flavor.
So it's essentially the samedashboard, but all the colors
change.
So this is not just, uh, youknow, it's now white and black.
Um, it's very hard to pick upin pictures, but everything
changes.
The lap times now.
You know, bright yellow doesn'tshow on a white screen, so the
(50:26):
lap time is kind of an orangeyhue to make it still make sense.
Um, the gauge colors areslightly different.
The green of the throttle isnow not lime green, so there's
so many design elements herethat are really important to
make sure that you can see itand it works.
So we've got a dark theme,we've got a light theme, which
is great, um, and then we'vealso got a unique theme, and
(50:49):
this is to commemorate DanielMorad's involvement in the
dashboard.
And this is the Moradness themeand what you can't see here,
because the exposure of thephoto doesn't tell you quite so
much, but behind the speed, which is the 126 value, in the
middle, there is a distinct Mlogo.
(51:09):
Morad's Moradness.
And then, if you use theMoradness theme when the dash is
not in game mode, you get aunique Daniel Morad splash
screen for the idle menus.
So it's a kind of a redcamouflage background that's got
a very, very subtle animation.
If you look closely you'll seethe background moving, but it's
not enough to make you look atit quickly.
(51:31):
See this is awesome man, butthis is unique to Daniel Morad
as a kind of a commemorativethank you for all that you've
done in helping us design thisdashboard.
So there's three themes.
You can choose any of those.
We're also working on a prettyunique feature for our partners.
So anyone signed up companybusiness is part of a dnr
partnership, um precision simengineering and one of those and
(51:54):
we'll use them as an example.
They make two really specialddus.
You're looking at one of themin this picture the ddx for
users that plug in the ddr andddx.
They don't know this yet.
This is a.
This is a feature reveal.
You will have the option of aspecific unique precision sim
engineering for your dashboardthat nobody else can use what is
(52:18):
of that dashboard?
um, I don't have a picture so Ican't show you now but we again,
these are just more things tomake endurance more for you.
Jason (52:28):
So a small pause here.
Yeah, dan and I we always talklike almost every day and I'm
always on the fence of whether Ineed a DDU or not.
I had one, I had a 6.8.
And then it's kind of like damn, I was shopping for DNR a 6.8.
(52:49):
And then it's kind of like damn, I was shopping for dnr, uh,
for um ddus and trying to add asmaller one, maybe on the side
or something, and then he comesout with the co-pilot thing and
now I hear this so I might haveto I might have to go on there
it's about that time.
I think it's about that time togo back down to the uh uh where
I started.
You know I had a pvu, so that'sawesome, daniel that's awesome
(53:11):
dude, you got a freaking, yougot.
You know, you got all thesethemes already with the.
You didn't have to put that in.
You know what?
I mean that.
That didn't have to have, itdidn't even need that.
And you just said you know what, we're gonna dedicate this
theme to them and now I thinkthat's.
I think that's awesome.
Daniel (53:24):
Yeah, yeah, that's great
.
I'm just going to finish upthat demo by um.
I'm not going to show the wholevideo because about 10 minutes
long, but I'm going to just skipthrough a couple of bits of it
yeah, let's see it bro.
Oh sure yeah we've got a videohere in um in youtube, which um
which I'm going to, and, by theway, guys follow danny newman
racing on youtube and all thesocials.
Jason (53:44):
He he's always.
He's always showing off umsneak peeks, so I'll leave his
links below.
Go ahead and give him a followand check them out.
Look at this.
Daniel (53:54):
This this is the
dashboard now in um and it's
obviously ignition is off state,so I'll press play Um.
So this ignition warning iscustomizable.
You can make that full screennow, or you can.
You can make it a little bitsmaller, Um, but this is
customizable.
You can make that full screenthe size of it now, or you can
make it a little bit smaller, but this is endurance, so you
(54:14):
can see the RPM bars thereworking, the spotter, yeah, the
bars working, and then you cansee on the left and the right,
the ADZs.
So on the left, I'm now cyclingthrough those adaptive display
panels showing the options thatare available.
There's a number of them theradar there, lap times, etc.
And they're the same both sides.
So in the plugin you can enableor disable the ones that you
(54:37):
don't want to see, or you canset the default ones, etc.
Etc.
But again, there's lots ofcustomization.
The bottom of the screen youcan currently see the opponents.
Again, you can change that inthe plugin, which will happen.
But it's nice if you are, youknow, a certain position to know
who's ahead, who's behind, whatever, whatever you can see
on the right hand side, therethe flashing pink and the now
(54:58):
the left, when you don't havespotters enabled in the gauges,
we allow you to enable spottersas a smaller overlay, as you can
see here.
So, again, people that want touse the dashboard and still know
car left, car right, but theydon't want to sacrifice those
rpms, as you can see now you canstill have the spotter function
, which I think is quite cool, and we've done it in a way
that's not too obtrusive andruins your experience, but it's
(55:22):
enough that you can see what'sgoing on and you've got that
visual indicator.
That's that's happening topright of the dash.
I really like the positionsgains you can see above p17.
Um, they're my little test here.
I gained six positions quiteearly on, so there you go down
as you.
you know you gain or you lose.
Um, if I just scroll throughthe video a little bit more, um,
(55:44):
you can see two more here.
If it loads, you can seerelative on the left, which will
show you as a driver in thecenter with the gaps around you,
and then overall leaderboard onthe right, which is quite nice.
On the right-hand corner is thetime.
The time in white is the simtime and then the time at the
bottom is the real life, which Ilove that because I know what
(56:04):
time it is.
Yeah, if your wife says to you, you've got to be back in here at
you know 11.
Jason (56:10):
Don't tell your wives
that you can see the clock,
because then they'll be like oh,I know, you know the time
you're using the dnr dash, don'ttell her that exactly three
minutes left, 11 o'clock.
Daniel (56:21):
I've got.
I've got a hot solution.
You can see the time and that's.
That's quite helpful too.
Jason (56:27):
Fast forward.
Daniel (56:27):
Dude, I'm sorry.
Jason (56:28):
I love that positions
gain on the top there.
That's sick.
Daniel (56:33):
Yeah, yeah, it's nice
that.
Jason (56:35):
P16.
Daniel (56:36):
Yeah, sorry, yeah, I'm
just going to flick through the
video a little bit Because, likeI said, there's a lot in here,
but you can see here as we getnear the end, yeah flags.
I'm going to pause it there soyou can see checkered flag.
You can customize flags in thedash so we could have made this
um just to fill this, thiscenter section, or we could have
filled the screen, should wewant to do that.
(56:57):
You know you can customize thatum.
The dash has also got dark mode, which is something I want to
talk briefly about.
So dark mode originates becauseI know other dashes use similar
features, but dark mode for mecame because way back when this
is about three years ago now Iused to drive the BMW M4 GT3,
(57:23):
and that was exclusively the carI used to run and only that car
.
Um m4 gt3, and that wasexclusively the car I used to
run and only that car and I.
I paid a long time before dnr um, a guy to make me a dashboard
that copied the bmw and thatwent into bmw's orange dark mode
.
When I drove at night andturned my lights on because for
me I wanted maximum immersion, and when I drove in the dark
because I did a lot, this fullbrightness dash just wasn't the
(57:45):
one.
It hurt, hurt my eyes.
So I paid him and said I need adark mode, please make it.
And he did and it was great.
Then when I started using adifferent dashboard.
I used another popular dash fora long time and I said to the
developer when I moved acrossone of the things I really miss
from my BMW dash is a dark mode.
When I drive at night, I needto have a dimmed view.
(58:05):
Because it's important for meand no, after asking for some
time, they implemented it andit's fantastic.
So it's a feature that we'vealways said at DNR.
We need this because it helpsyour nighttime driving and for
an endurance dashboard that'slikely to be used.
Jason (58:21):
Oh yeah.
Daniel (58:22):
You are going to drive
in the dark.
So endurance has got like alldnr dashes, now, uh, dark mode.
So here's here's an example ofit in use.
Dark mode has got four themedcolors.
They are purple, like you cansee.
Now it's got blue, it's got redand it's got orange.
In the latest version of ofthis dash and all our led
(58:44):
profiles you can now use acustom color for dark mode.
So it's got a primary and asecondary color and they can be
anything you like.
You can set your own dark mycolors.
Now there is absolutely nolimitation to what your dark.
Wow, wow, yeah, no excuse eitherand then the last thing in the
video I was going to show you isthe pit lane.
(59:05):
So if we skip forward, I'mabout to enter the pits.
I believe what's going tohappen in the pit lane is we are
going to have there we go.
So first of all, when we don'tneed our pit limiter on, it will
tell us to turn it off becausewe don't need it on, the center
section changed.
So if I go back slightly, youcan see that we've got a big
(59:27):
gear RPMs and speed In the pitlane.
You don't care about most ofthat stuff, you care more about
speed.
So when we go into the pit laneit adapts and the speed gets
bigger and the gear gets smaller.
Jason (59:39):
Oh, I didn't notice that.
Daniel (59:40):
Okay, that's what's key
in the pit lane right.
Yeah, what's key in the pitlane right, you don't care
really as much.
Jason (59:45):
See, that's the tension,
the.
Daniel (59:48):
RPMs in the pit lane?
Who cares?
What I want to know is am I?
Jason (59:51):
going too fast.
How fast am I going?
Daniel (59:52):
Yeah, exactly what
Change it, and we then also give
you the.
Jason (59:58):
I legitimately did not.
Oh, I didn't think about it.
Erick (01:00:02):
Because I saw the screen
change.
I thought just the backgroundcolor changed.
Jason (01:00:05):
I thought it was just
blue.
Erick (01:00:07):
Yeah, I thought the color
changed.
It changes too.
Daniel (01:00:10):
And the color blue
matches.
So in the DNR plugin you cantell it what color you want your
pit limiter to be.
So this video is washed out,but you can just see there's a
blue and white LED here.
If I change those colors in myplugin to red, this background
will also go red and it would bered leds as well you see the
same family.
Jason (01:00:28):
That's what I'm talking
about, right here it's in sync.
Daniel (01:00:31):
Yeah, so sorry.
This warning here that saysturn your limiter on, which is
really useful to say look, activate the pit limiter um, I
need that beak.
This is when it's on sayingyour limiter is on, you're safe,
um.
But it also tells us if I canfind it in my video um, where it
goes it went red like youturned it off for a second yeah,
(01:00:56):
um, I'm speeding telling you toactivate it so it's saying
activate it, and the leds aregoing crazy.
so it's a warning to say you'rein the pit lane and you've got
no limiter on what are you doing, you lunatic.
Erick (01:01:06):
Yeah, trying to kill
somebody.
Daniel (01:01:09):
Exactly.
And then when you leave the pitlane and it only come
momentarily before the videofinishes here you get this
button.
So the second you cross theline you get this warning that
says turn the limiter offBecause a lot of us are looking
for the line.
And then we're losing timebecause we we're looking for
that pit line and saying wherecan we turn it off?
Well, this tells you.
So you haven't got to look foranything when it flashes green
(01:01:32):
and the leds again hard to see,but the one on the right here is
doing it and the one on theleft is doing green, green to
say get gone off but not onlythat, it's just that's one part
of it, right, because?
Jason (01:01:44):
Because the lights above
me, they turn green.
The co-pilot screen will turngreen, the brows will turn green
.
I believe, daniel Correct me ifI'm wrong If you have a LED
matrix, they will turn green.
It's like awareness.
We're not trying to.
You know.
You can make this however youwant it.
(01:02:06):
If you want all the lights toturn on, you can do that.
If you want one light to turnon, it doesn't have to be like a
circus or anything.
It's your choice.
I'd rather have the manydifferent warnings.
So I will never forget.
There's no way I forgot.
If I forgot, that means I fellasleep, that's it.
Erick (01:02:28):
Yeah, I like too that the
dash if I had to kind of sum it
up into one thing is it's alive.
Yes, it ties into your rig andit makes your entire rig alive.
So now, instead of just onlygetting information from your
DDU screen, just only gettingthe information from your DDU
screen, the five, six, seveninch screen, the entire rig, is
(01:02:49):
communicating to you visuallyand it's all synced up, and I
really like that.
Jason (01:03:01):
So I have some comments.
You go on Instagram and you seethe popular Killian's, a big,
popular guy.
He's always on instagramshowing off his rigs and I got
out to killian if you'rewatching this brother um, just
just the many different creatorsout there and before this
dashboard, well, many of us wereusing many different things,
right, and they all lookidentical.
(01:03:23):
But when you have something DNRstuff and you can customize my
pit lane, that's my, this is myrig.
I wanted this color, I wantedthat color and you know what I'm
trying to say.
It's kind of like there's afamiliarity with it, but then
there's that uniqueness thatthis is my.
You're sitting in my rig, thisis my rig.
(01:03:45):
You know what I mean.
If I look at all the dashboards,I know what dashboard it is, I
know exactly what he's using, Iknow the same color scheme, but
when you have something that youcan make and create and it be
yours while still giving you allthat information that you're
looking for is top tier.
(01:04:07):
Honestly, it's top tier.
This is revolutionary To me.
This is the king of dashboards.
That might be the title of thisvideo.
I'm still thinking about it,but it's the king of dashboards.
Erick (01:04:21):
That's a strong argument,
man, for real.
Jason (01:04:25):
As of July of 25, year
25,.
This is the best thing thatI've seen so far when it comes
to everything from the UI, fromthe attention to detail, from
the customization, from theplugin, from the ease of use.
And I've never had an issuewith any of DNR stuff Never.
(01:04:48):
And he is not paying us.
He is not paying us to come onthe show.
He is here out of his own freewill from the UK.
We can't touch him.
He's too far away.
Erick (01:05:01):
And also we're not just
saying this to be nice because
he's a friend.
He is a friend of mine.
He is a friend of mine.
Jason (01:05:06):
He is a friend of mine
and guess what?
Daniel Newman and I said thisbefore we started recording and
I'll say it here.
We're not even done with theinterview, but this is our show.
But I'll tell you what.
Daniel Newman is a big friendof mine.
We speak about many things.
We talk about guitars, bro.
All the time we go back andforth Fender against Gibson and
(01:05:32):
he made me buy a freaking Gibson.
That's in there so I love it so.
But you know, my dog passedaway recently and Daniel was,
you know he was checking up onme all the time, michael too.
So shout out to Michael beforehaving a simulator.
(01:05:52):
You know, how is it that Icould build a simulator, start
filming a show on a camera andmeet these amazing creators and
these amazing people with somany ideas that their head is
about to explode.
Like Daniel comes from the oldschool man.
He's like man.
I was making lightsabers, youknow, for Star Wars back in the
day and look at them now.
(01:06:15):
So I think we still got tocontinue the final three
questions.
But I just want to say, man, thank you so much for doing what
you do and thank you so muchfor being such a good friend and
supporting me when I was downand I told you this before
(01:06:36):
everybody trips and falls, buthaving a hand to extend and
seeing the hand to extend tohelp you get up, it means a lot
to me.
It's not about we're not herejust trying to promote DNR and
all this stuff.
We're excited to see the stuffthat he's working on and what he
basically what he evolvedhimself in his you know, daniel
(01:07:02):
Newman racing and made it towhere it's not just one thing,
it's just all things.
You know what I mean.
It is my rig, daniel Newmanracing is my rig.
Now those lights are on.
My dashboard is on.
Newman Racing is my rig nowthose lights are on my dashboard
(01:07:22):
is on Other than my pedals andmy steering wheel, I guess, and
my speakers.
But yeah, it was a difficulttime for me.
So I want to say here on theshow in front of everybody,
thank you so much for being thesolid rock man for me and you're
so far away and you just tookthe time to say you know, how
are you doing today?
Just a simple message, you know, means a lot when I wake up and
(01:07:44):
I see it, you know.
So, thank you, Daniel, I reallyappreciate that man.
Daniel (01:07:48):
I appreciate you too,
thank you.
Jason (01:07:50):
So let's continue because
it's very exciting.
I just want to cut the podcastand I want to go on and see what
else I've been missing here.
Those little details are there.
You know what I mean.
They're there.
So who's got the next one?
Is it me?
Erick (01:08:07):
I'll take the next one.
Yeah, I'll take the next one.
Jason (01:08:10):
So, daniel, real simple.
After all these dashboards, right, speedway is a great thing
.
You guys need to check that out.
If you're a nascar guy, uh,there's not really a dashboard
out there that does what that um, his speedway does, uh, so you
should really uh give that a go.
But we're talking the latestand greatest, which is the
(01:08:31):
endurance dashboard.
So are there any features youwanted to add but there wasn't a
way to some?
You know, something happenedand some external factors, like
example, data's not available,or to target hardware, like
limitations, or the wheel can'tdo it, or you know what I mean.
I know touchscreens are verylimited because you only have a
(01:08:53):
four quadrant.
Even when you do the advancedthing, it's really just four
positions.
So is there anything that youwish you could have added?
I know it's a V1 and I'mhopeful.
Daniel (01:09:09):
I'm very hopeful.
I've got to be careful what Isay, I know.
I'm digging a little deep herethe channel across to me now and
through my window.
Um, thomas, I've locked thedoor.
Um there's, we've got a list ofthings that we're doing now.
So, um, as of today, right, this second, um, we are
(01:09:34):
finishing creating the XLvariant of endurance.
So endurance is not just aregular dashboard, it also fits
on um, people use, for example, the larger, uh porsche 10 inch
dashboard.
There's an xl version comingfor that, and there's also a
slimline version which is also10 inch but narrow top to bottom
, and that's called the UXL.
(01:09:54):
So they're being built rightnow.
As well as those, we've got alist of features that we're also
adding, which is going to be amixture of features with UI,
that kind of thing.
So one of the things I'm reallyproud of is how receptive Nico
and Thomas are in our Discord.
It's such a thriving, goodcommunity place and I don't feel
(01:10:14):
that anybody ever speaks inthere and kind of feels that
they are being dismissed.
So anytime someone gives us afeature, generally speaking
we'll do our very best, andthere's been a bit of that since
Endurance came out, peoplesaying, can you do this, can you
do that?
Don't always agree with it, butultimately we do our very best
to make it happen.
So I would say 95% of thethings asked of us since release
(01:10:38):
have been asked for are coming.
Jason (01:10:40):
Things like they want a
headlight flash warning, they
want turn signal warnings orwhatever it is Well we got to be
careful what we say here, because then you know,
overcommitting right.
Daniel (01:10:57):
LMU.
We would have liked to get lmuworking prior to release, but
there was a.
There's a line where we say wecan make it work and we can
release it, but you're gonnahave to wait and then you can
have it all together.
Or we say, just take it, havefun.
Lmu will work on the most part, but you'll miss things like abs
, tc or virtual energy, as anexample.
(01:11:18):
They'll come um, so it wouldhave been good to have them
straight away, but at the sametime, you know the lmu users
that need it don't make the thelargest portion of dashboard
users and, whilst they're veryimportant, it didn't seem like
it was much sense to make thedash stop just for those things.
So, yeah, had we could, we havedone those things.
(01:11:39):
I would have loved to havelaunched the dash with those um.
Are we going to provide those?
Of course?
Um, you just have to wait a bit.
We're working on.
If the list is ridiculous.
If I'm honest, um things thestuff coming from dnr it blows
me away.
Um, sit tight.
Good things are coming.
(01:11:59):
If you think, endurance is goodyou ain't seen nothing yet but
wait, I'd like to hear stevejobs yeah, and one more thing oh
, one more thing.
Jason (01:12:14):
Okay, all right, we'll
let them off easy here.
Eric on with that uh, yeah, Ithink we've got enough goodies
today I think you know, from thetime he mentioned the dashboard
and from this time span that itreleased, um, it just hit me by
surprise, like you can explain.
We can sit here and talk aboutthe features, like we did, but
(01:12:36):
it wasn't until you actuallyinstall it and use it and start
noticing those, those, thosedetails that you get.
Like I didn't even notice andI've been trying to.
I got home and I was like Ineed to put hours into the dash.
I want to know what have Imissed?
Right, because chicane podcastword media.
(01:12:57):
I need to know what's out thereso I can inform you guys.
Eric, same thing, me and Ericare on the phone.
We're like, oh shit, you knowwhat does this does that?
And we're having a conference, literally about the dashboard
and I'm taking pictures andvideos on the phone and sending
them to Daniel.
He's like, yeah, yeah, youcould do this, you could do that
.
Did you have the latest?
(01:13:18):
What do you call it?
You asked me if I had thelatest LEDs on my wheel too, so
it could match.
So I tell you what.
Excuse me, the Discord supporton Daniel Newman Racing is
(01:13:43):
interesting because it has asmany different portals of
announcements.
This is very separate from hisproducts, but just to tell you
how involved he is in hiscommunity, so I have to give my
hats off to him.
He does competitions too, sodon't miss those.
With the food and everythingwhich I was a little late to the
party, but Amazon, I wasordering these cans of beans.
I still got them.
So if anybody wants them, beanson toast, beans on toast.
(01:14:07):
And yeah, if you become aprincipal too, if you want to
try it out, like if you want totry it out and see what the
discussion is and have thatfirst.
You know that first glance of,like you know taste of, the very
hot off the press and they dobeta tests Like I love that.
That's awesome.
You get to build a dash withhim.
(01:14:27):
And for the final question,I'll give this over to Mr Kelly.
Very simple, simple questionsfor him, because I'm just how do
you say this?
I'm ecstatic, I'm ecstatic forthe dashboard.
Erick (01:14:42):
Oh, yeah, yeah.
Simple questions, because theproof is in the pudding In this
case the pudding is thedashboard, or the fish and chips
as they say.
Jason (01:14:53):
Yeah, the fish and chips
Speaking of one more.
Erick (01:14:55):
Yeah, speaking of one
more thing.
On this last question, what isyour favorite feature of the
endurance dash?
Jason (01:15:03):
you gotta know.
It's a hard question.
You gotta pick one gotta pickone.
Erick (01:15:06):
What's your favorite
feature?
Daniel (01:15:13):
okay, favorite favorite
feature.
But then I've got one thingthat's a standard that I just
have to mention.
So favorite feature is going tobe not not a function of the
dash, but the UI, and that isbecause, okay, for example, you
know a, a function can bepresented in lots of dashboards.
Right, you want to know whatposition am I in, what's the lap
time, et cetera, et cetera.
Okay, and you can do that in inway way a or way b.
(01:15:35):
I can tell you what positionyou're in, how fast your lap was
and who's ahead and behind on adashboard, and it can look like
you know, my child made it atschool.
Or I can do it in a way thatyou think, whoa, this looks,
this is good.
And so much of the feedback onendurance is about the ui, the
looks.
So data is great.
(01:15:55):
And without the data, what isthe point?
but actually, anybody, anybodywith some time, effort, you know
, knowledge, can, can put thedata into a dashboard, correct,
different and separate it's opensource correct from others is
is our ideas, our ideology, ourmindset and our design, and I
(01:16:16):
think our design is unique andI'm really proud of it.
Um, I keep saying it, butthomas's design work is
sensational.
He's so good, he's such anintegral part to dnr uh nico,
with all the ideas that hebrings his knowledge just as a
team.
I could not ask for a stronger, better team.
(01:16:37):
Um, I actually love them bothdearly.
They're really special to me.
Like you talked about afriendship basis and the ui that
we've developed to make thiswhat it is today.
For me, standout feature is thedesign, the the point five thing
I want to mention is that we'vemade this accessible as well,
(01:16:58):
and that's also really importantand I'm proud of that.
So dnr for me is I understandpeople say a subscription
service.
That's not the one.
I'm not paying it.
Dnr costs either three pounds amonth or six pounds a month and
that's that gets you theproducts.
If you want to go over andabove, you can spend nine pound
(01:17:19):
and all that gains you is theprincipal lounge, which is a
really good place to chat andyou'll see, in there it's quite
lively and you get early accessand some other unique rewards.
But if you just want theproducts, they cost three pound
and six pound.
Now, three pound is less than acup of coffee, so for me it's
cheap and for the hours that weput into it every month, yeah, a
(01:17:39):
lot and he's not a single maneither daniel daniel has to, has
to take the share and share itacross.
Jason (01:17:47):
He is a team.
It's a team.
It's not a single.
It's not a single man behindthe camera here doing all this
stuff.
You know what I mean.
Daniel (01:17:55):
So your subscription is
shared and that's important.
And the thing that makes itaccessible is all of the
dashboards are completely free,so we say they cost three.
Wow, the dashboards.
Jason (01:18:11):
They're free.
Daniel (01:18:11):
So you can, you can
download dashboard and you can
use every dashboard for free, and they come with default.
Jason (01:18:19):
What are you waiting for?
Daniel (01:18:21):
And you want to make it
really unique.
That's a membership perk.
Everybody can download thedashboard and you will get the
RPMs the standard that matchcars.
If you don't have access to itin any other forms, we'll give
that to you.
So people who want to tryEndurance can download it today
and it won't cost them a penny.
There's no trial, there's noinformation and you can test it
(01:18:42):
and just download it.
And if we don't see you again, then have fun.
That's it, wow, but it'saccessible and we understand
that not everybody in sim racinghas got a thousand pound wheel
or a three thousand pound set ofpedals and that's fun if you
want to have fun but you want tobe part of this, download it,
go, have fun.
Just join the community.
(01:19:03):
Don't have to pay anything.
Talk to us, be part of the theconversation, and we appreciate
you too.
So making it accessible um isimportant for us too, so I'm
also really proud of that.
Jason (01:19:14):
I had to talk to you.
Man.
That's awesome, I mean to me,top tier, for real.
To me, it's a small price topay to keep my rig in sync and
alive, because I don't want topay for multiple things to do.
How do I say this?
I don't want to pay formultiple services.
(01:19:37):
I want to narrow it down asclose as I can, and Daniel is
actually helping with that bigtime.
You know what I mean and he'sdoing it at a high quality,
something that's never been donebefore.
A lot of these features, you'renot going to find them on a
dashboard that you can downloadfrom race department or
(01:19:58):
something like that.
You're not going to find thistype of quality and they're free
.
Like what are you waiting for?
So I will leave links in thedescription.
Erick (01:20:05):
Yeah, at least try it out
.
Jason (01:20:07):
Just give it a try, like,
if you don't believe us, go
ahead and try it for yourself.
The product speaks, thedashboard will speak for itself.
Promise You'll, you'll, you'll,you'll find out real quick, um,
that this, this, actually worksand we're actually, you know,
we're speaking facts here.
So I'm really proud of, I'mreally proud of you, daniel.
(01:20:32):
I um from the last time thatyou came on the show, not the
holiday party, just the firsttime you came on the show.
Look how much has changed froma man that works full time has a
beautiful family, by the way, thank you has wife, kids, house
job and then a second job thathe's basically losing sleep off
(01:20:58):
of every night.
And then I keep his ass up too, because I'm in Hawaii.
So I'm like, dude, you need tobe up so we can have a
conversation.
Um, just, I want you to just doit.
Just look at that video or justthink about it, don't you don't
have to watch it.
Just think about where you wereand where you are today and all
(01:21:19):
the hard work that you're doing.
It's amazing.
It's something to be proud of.
If your favorite feature is theUI, that makes sense, because
the UI is a representation ofthe evolution that you've taken
for to get this vision ontosomething that you can see.
Right, how do I get the pictureup here to come onto the screen
(01:21:42):
and look the way I want you tolook?
So I kind of understand whythat's your favorite thing,
right?
It's kind of like your.
It has your flavor, right, ithas that mark to it, like you
know.
You know, by the way, it looksthat it's coming from Denny
Newman Racing.
So I'm really proud ofeverything.
(01:22:04):
I'm really happy.
I can't wait to shut the cameraoff because I'm going in here,
so I guess I'll do a quickroundtable before we say our
goodbyes.
If there's anything you thinkwe need to cover, that's for
both of you.
We'll start with Eric.
Eric, what do you think?
Do we have anything else for MrDaniel Newman?
(01:22:24):
I know we covered very brieflythe co-pilot stuff.
I want you to go on DannyNewman's YouTube.
He has tutorials on everysingle thing that he's made so
far and it's on there, and hedoes live streams too, so you
(01:22:44):
can see it working live too.
So check him out.
That's my round table.
What about you, eric?
What you got for us?
Erick (01:22:52):
Nothing, man, just kind
of echoing the same sentiments.
Man, I remember meeting danieland being new to the sim racing
community and when he came onthe show me me being new but
also, you know, being in themidst of google searching all
the different things you needfor your sim and seeing his name
pop up.
And then it's like I look upand he's on the show.
(01:23:13):
I'm like damn, like this, likethis guy that's like got my you
know my leds popping on my wheel, like he's a nice guy, like
very passionate, very driven, and you know me, whenever I see
people that have found theirpassion, that kind of does
something to me.
But, um, yeah, man, just kindof reminiscing and thinking
(01:23:34):
about how far you've come andthinking about where you guys
are going, the focus Salah, yougot a great team over there.
Um, and, and you know, I justwish y'all the best of luck, man
.
Daniel (01:23:46):
Thank you so much, thank
you.
Jason (01:23:49):
All right.
So, daniel, my final goodbyesto you.
Brother.
I'll probably chat right afterthis, right after we cut this,
but I just want to thank you forthe attention to detail, for
thinking outside the box, forfinding a way to not carbon copy
something or being original, because LEDs started right here.
(01:24:15):
One-to-one LEDs started righthere.
The rally dashboard startedright here, the touchscreen
interface.
I'm pretty sure somebody's goingto copy it, but I want to tell
you it started here, and we needpeople like you.
We really do.
We need humans like you, because humans like you are
(01:24:37):
always trying to solve theproblem for us.
They're always trying to find away.
Well, this can be done.
How can we get it done?
And I really appreciate you asa whole.
Dude, you're totally different.
I can't wait to meet you, thankyou.
We're all going to be hangingout at this Sim Gaming Expo and,
if you would like to go,chicane 10 is still active.
(01:25:00):
We make zero profits from itand I'm being told that it's
still the number one used codefor the expo, so I'm very proud
of that.
And if you would like to meetDaniel Newman, he's going to be
over there.
What is?
Erick (01:25:18):
he a little shy.
Jason (01:25:20):
We'll see, we'll see,
we'll see, we'll get a few beers
in them.
He'll come alive.
So the British of him will popout and say yo, what's up?
So yeah, man.
So I wish you the best of luckand just keep doing what you're
(01:25:40):
doing, man.
Put your head down, focus onthe features, and everything
will work itself out, I promiseyou, because when people start
using this thing and theyactually see what it can do,
there's no more talking at thatpoint.
Do there's no more talking.
At that point, there's reallyno more talking.
So give it a try, guys.
It's free.
(01:26:06):

And that's about it for me, man.
So with that, uh, daniel, thankyou so much for making the time
.
Daniel (01:26:23):
I really appreciate you
thank you for having me again.
It's been a pleasure, both ofyou, thank you but we'll do it
again sometime.
Jason (01:26:30):
We'll do it again, we'll
have a posse here.
Uh, we're definitely gonnareconvene in September.
I have some plans over there.
So with that, guys, thank youso much and have a great start
of your week.
Thank you.
