Ilia (00:18):

ilia and Nino.

Nino (00:22):
Welcome back, guys.
Episode number 24.
Number 24.
Yes sir.

Ilia (00:30):
Okay, so last episode we announced that our YouTube
channels, tiktok, all our socialmedias, our website everything
is going live.
Uh, you know, everything'sgonna get up to date in the
month of june and uh, startingfrom july, everything's gonna be

(00:52):
synchronous, everything's gonnabe released at the same time.
Uh, you and you'll be following.
You'll be able to follow thepodcast in a much more
interesting way.
Um, yeah, today's episode iskind of weird and funny.

Nino (01:05):
Yes, okay, I'm gonna be talking about my stories as a dj
weird, funny, embarrassingmoments that I've uh encountered
and uh you're in some of themtoo, right?

Ilia (01:18):
yeah, all right, and a lot of this was written actually,
the whole thing was writtenwithout my knowledge.
I'm really looking forward tohear what this is okay, the
first, the first one.

Nino (01:28):
Now you you actually brought this up in in the
previous episode.
Oh, I love this.
You actually bring it up allthe time and um, it's very
embarrassing for me because wewere literally doing a, a
ceremony, right, and um, it wasoutside on a, on a patio and um,

(01:48):
they're already doing theirvows, right, yeah, and he's like
oh, I love you, I love youforever.
Oh, yeah, I love you too andthen, and then, all of a sudden,
I was, and then everybody justlooked at me, looked at me.

(02:09):
I was like, oh, your face, youwent so pale, bro, you know, you
know, spun the.
Uh, yeah, I spun it back.
I didn't know, I didn't havethe volume down, it was all the
way up still, so I spun it back.
I was like, oh, my god, what amI doing?
But it was too late by then.
And it wasn't just like it was,it was.
I was shocked.
I was like, oh, did I just dothat?

Ilia (02:27):
and the crowd responded immediately with an approval of
like it.
Just, the bride and the groomwere like, just like they
weren't living.
They were actually laughing.
They loved it.
You're laughing, but that wasthanks to your diligence to
keeping them happy throughout,um, the first portion of the
night.
Yeah, what did you do with uh?

(02:48):
What was it?
Uh?
Was it within houston?

Nino (02:52):
oh, yeah, yeah yeah, with a song, how you like.
You stopped it and everyone's.

Ilia (02:56):
You know they're waiting for the moment to start singing
and I so.

Nino (03:00):
So before the drop goes, I stop it, and then everybody's
waiting for it, but I wouldn'tplay it.
I'd let them react and likewhat's going on, and then I'd
play it and I so they, you knowthey love it I have the video of
that too.

Ilia (03:16):
When they're like there we go, there we go.
You, just you build such arapport with them.
Yeah, I know, it's the thingsyou do, the little things, right
the little details, it makes abig difference and they're
already kind of like your buddybuddies with them before they
even came out to the dance floor.

Nino (03:31):
Yeah, yeah so, yeah, it's, it's.
It's important to to have thatrapport with your clients and
just, you know, be happy, have agood time with everybody.
Everybody's there to have agreat time, so I was, you know,
having a great time, andeverybody, everybody's there to
have a great time, so I washaving a great time.

Ilia (03:46):
And you were there too.

Nino (03:47):
I was having a great time you witnessed all this stuff too
right.

Ilia (03:51):
Was that the one we were driving to, and we almost ran
out of gas.
You know what?
That's the next point.

Nino (03:57):
That's the next point I was getting at.
Oh wait, I didn't even read it,okay.
So way, I even read it, okay.
So this is literally on our waythere.
So he comes to my house and, uh, we, we drive together and me
knowing my car, I'm like, okay,I think I have like a a quarter
tank of gas.
I'm like, okay, we have two anda half hours drive right up

(04:18):
north.
And I'm like, oh, okay, there'sgonna be gas stations around.
So I'm, there are no gasstations on the way to muscogee
I just realized that, like on,when you're, when you're in um,
like very rural areas where, like um those areas, there are
no gas stations at all, andsometimes there's a gas station
on google maps but there's nogas station in in reality.

(04:41):
But you know what I did, youknow what I did pass by like a
few before on our way there.
When we got, before we got intothe like the foresty areas,
right, I was like no, we'restill good, we're still good.
And if you know your car, youknow your car, right.
So I'm still driving, driving.
I'm like okay, we're still okay.
I think we have like another 20, 20 kilometers on this, okay.

(05:06):
And then like okay, I asked you, hey, when's, where's the next
uh gas station?
And then we're looking and I'mquiet, we don't, we don't see
any, any, any uh cars, it's justlike a one, one road and then
trees.
I'm like, okay, wait, hey, hey, where's the next gas?

Ilia (05:25):
station.
I'm quiet, I'm not respondingbecause I'm like you're checking
, you're checking.

Nino (05:29):
I don't know what to tell you because it's.

Ilia (05:30):
It was like 45 minutes or something like that, or half an
hour, bro, bro, because it wasabout your light was about to
turn on it was about to turn on.
It was like you were like 20kilometers left or something.

Nino (05:43):
Oh yeah, bro, did you?
Do you remember how, how, how,um nervous I was getting?

Ilia (05:48):
yes, so the funny part was okay.
To me it was funny.
One of the funniest parts wasthe fact that I think you
literally set a record how faryou could have driven with a car
saying you have zero kilometersleft.
So everyone knows once you likebeen driving for a few years

(06:09):
and you've been in thatsituation when it says zero,
it's not really zero yeah, there's still a a little bit of
uh gas there.
Yeah, probably like 20kilometers, something like that,
where it depends on the caryeah yeah, do you remember how
many we drove?
it was way more than 20 we weredriving for 40 or something.

Nino (06:25):
Yeah, 40 40 kilometers.

Ilia (06:28):
I bet that another like kilometer, your car would have
stopped in the middle rememberwhen we found the whole video
like like I was actually, so Istill need to edit that video.

Nino (06:37):
Oh my god, that was, you can't get around to it.
Yeah, that was terrible, man.
I was like saying, you know, weneed to get to this and we were
kind of late to the wedding too, right.
So I was like, um, are we gonnamake it?
It was such a good wedding, itwas such.
That was the one where I didthe spin back.
Right, yeah, the same wedding,right.

Ilia (06:57):
But aren't they your um?
Aren't you on the preferredpreferred vendor list there?
I didn't.

Nino (07:02):
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I hope you still are after the story.
I still am, I still am, butthat was pretty bad man.
I'm never going to do thatagain.
Like just a pointer for DJsthat are going in very what
areas are those?

Ilia (07:18):
Here in Canada, when you drive north of I'm not going to
say the name of the city, a lotof them wouldn't know, but when
you're about an hour north of,uh, downtown toronto, maybe two
hours north of downtown toronto, fuel up yeah, yeah, you need to
, you definitely need to.
So, yeah, yeah, I when you'releaving the suburbs and you're

(07:40):
going to like countryside.
That's yeah, that's what you'regoing to like countryside,
that's what you're talking about.

Nino (07:43):
Yes, Countryside is dangerous.

Ilia (07:46):
Like you won't.
And the thing is there's noexcuse, there's no, there's
nothing you can do unlesssomebody can come out.
And even if you know you havesomeone who's going to like
extend a favor and be like yo,you know I'm going to, I'm going
to come and give you some gas, yeah.

Nino (08:08):
Let's wait for an hour or two before he gets there.

Ilia (08:09):
That's what I was thinking I'm like, oh my gosh, if we
stop right here, I have to calllike caa to get, get me gas.

Nino (08:12):
And then bring me to the actual like uh, I actually
should, and then bring it backI'm like, oh my god, this is
gonna be a trip.

Ilia (08:14):
I worked for caa as a tow truck driver.
I was driving flatbed years andyears ago.
Um, just trying to educatemyself on, like, how to be a man
and know more about cars andstuff.

Nino (08:25):
Right, I just threw myself into the that, that field, yeah
, and um, we don't respondquickly oh, I'm sure you don't,
especially when you're out therelike in the middle of nowhere,
right, yeah?

Ilia (08:38):
sometimes we did not respond quickly back then.
Um, you try, sometimes you justcan't.
Yeah right, and you'd bewaiting for a long time, yeah,
so yeah, it's not ideal man.

Nino (08:50):
So if, before you guys go to the countryside, if you guys,
like I, have a two, three hourdrive, make sure to gas up,
because I I learned the hard waybarely made it, literally
barely memories.

Ilia (09:04):
I wish we knew how much actually.
I asked you uh, what's yourtank size?
I didn't know, and I think backthen you told me, and we
calculated you had like zeropoint, something like liters
left.

Nino (09:15):
Bro, we don't do gallons, I was running on fumes for
really, and then we had a fullfull.
The back was full of gear too,so, so we were heavier.

Ilia (09:23):
A very, very heavy load kind of wedding.
I think we had less than threeor four kilometers left, not
even five.
Yeah, yeah.
A couple miles guys A couplemiles, not even joking.

Nino (09:35):
Barely made it.
We were ready to push the car.

Ilia (09:38):
Yeah, literally.
I mean you would be pushing thecar.
I'm not pushing the car on thebackside of your car ever again
after you dropped.
Is this here too, when youalmost decapitated?

Nino (09:54):
no, no, no not decapitated when you almost got rid of my
um of of my foot so we're on theway home from, uh, from one of
those long drives, um, and then,uh, I think you wanted to get a
charger from my bag.
A charger from my bag from, yes, so from the trunk.
We had to open up the trunk and, um, I think my one of my
speakers it was a qsc k12 waslike hanging off and hanging off

(10:18):
like by a thread, so he openedit and then it just literally
dropped on his foot like square, like on a corner, the edge
right it fell on your foot, itwas the edge or or like the the
side of the speaker, and itwasn't like you know slowly.

Ilia (10:35):
It just dropped, like free falling, yeah from the uh
what's what kind car you have?
Uh, the highlander, so from thetrunk, and I think it was even
on something, so it was evenhigher.
Yeah, yeah, and just boom, justdropped, just dropped on his
foot, like, and it took me aboutfive seconds to react because
I'm like, did I just lose myfoot?
Yeah, I crush it yeah, yeah, that was.

Nino (10:56):
That was pretty bad.
I was like, oh, you were inpain for a while, I thought you
were gonna.

Ilia (11:00):
I had to leave you there on the side of the road yeah,
that's that's what he wasthinking, instead of actually
helping me out.
Surprisingly, it wasn'tactually as bad as it should
have been.
We don't know, I have a bionicfoot or something.
Yeah, a friend of mine actuallydrove over my foot once and he
thought I was uh pranking him, saying that, oh, you're on my

(11:21):
foot, like, and he's justlooking at me and laughing.
But he's, he didn't know.
No, it wasn't like a chevycruiser or something.
And uh, he's laughing.
I'm like you're actually on myfoot and I was wearing dress
shoes.
And he comes out.
He's like, oh, I'm like you'reactually on my foot and I was
wearing dress shoes.
And he comes out.
He's like, oh, shoot, I am onyour foot.
And he starts laughing like he'sjust stressed out and he's
laughing.

Nino (11:37):
So he just left it on.

Ilia (11:39):
For like a good 30 seconds , like I don't know, just my
feet are special.

Nino (11:44):
Special.
You're special, thank you.
Your mommy says so, my mom saysso.
Next one.
Next one Another story that Ihave, another one.
I think I already mentionedthis in the previous episode.
I think I got you to do it,yeah, and it got me really like

(12:07):
riled up because it just gets tome, because one of my guys that
I usually get for this storeopening and I usually do this
store opening I've done it for along time.
We're gonna refrain from uh,saying the name of the actual
store but yeah, basically bigone, big.
It was time for like a pricehike, so I gave them a new price
and then we kind of fell.

(12:27):
It kind of fell through so Iwas like, okay, I'm not gonna
work with you guys anymore.
We decided we're not gonna workwith each other, right.
So I told all my guys that, okay, if they contact you, don't
work with them.
Okay, I told every single oneand they're like that's your
account.

Ilia (12:46):
Yeah, yeah, you built it exactly over how many months or
years?

Nino (12:50):
a years, years.
So I worked with them forprobably seven years.
Every seven years the the firstopening actually store.

Ilia (12:59):
Uh, I saw a photo of you, actually like yes, yes, yes, and
I'm like, oh man, you're muchyounger, so that was years ago.

Nino (13:08):
It was a long, long time ago, man, but I I started with
them.

Ilia (13:11):
The first store, yeah.

Nino (13:13):
It was time to just move on, right.
So I told all my employeesdon't take anything, because
we're done.
We're done with this.
So I find out, maybe a coupleof weeks later, that from a
friend who knows that I usuallywhat was that?
Was that your tooth, tooth?

(13:34):
No, it's like one of the candy, like my mints.

Ilia (13:37):
Okay, right, so, uh, yeah so please don't edit it out.
And I was waiting.
I was waiting to see is is thecandy gonna fall out of your
mouth?
Because I can see how, likeyou're trying to like
nonchalantly keep it in uh toanyone who's uh listening to us
instead of watching the uh video, uh podcast.
Nina was really trying to hideuh the lozenge.

Nino (14:01):
He was like uh, yeah accidentally fell out of my
mouth.
This guy watched it well, okayall right okay, moving on,
moving on.
Okay.
So I'm not talking about, okay, don't don't do it.
So I, um, I found out from afriend, um, who start over,
start over, I'm just joking, what are you talking about?
So I found out from a friendthat, um, who knows that I do

(14:25):
that these, uh, openings thesegigs, right.
So I find out that, oh, youdon't do the these gigs anymore,
uh, but there's a dj here.
I was like, really, send me,send me, send me the picture or
his business card.
So she, she asked him for abusiness card and then I I saw

(14:45):
it and she took a picture.
I was like this this guy thisguy is one of my guys.
I'm like what a snake, what aguy.
So I was like I call him uplike a couple of days after.
I'm like why, man?
And he kind of knew already too.
So he was like guilty, guilty, like oh, I, you know, I just

(15:09):
wanted to make money.

Ilia (15:11):
Make money.
Yeah, I knew, yeah, I justwanted to make money.

Nino (15:12):
Make money, yeah, I knew, yeah, I just I just went off on
him and it was like how couldyou do this?

Ilia (15:19):
And you don't get angry easily.
Yeah, in the two plus yearsI've known you, yeah.

Nino (15:26):
You don't show your emotions.
I was wearing all likeeverything, the whole alphabet.
I was wearing everything Adam, him and yeah, I said, no, that's
it, you're done, I'm notgetting any more, any more gigs.
So, yeah, I backstabbingexactly, exactly.
He messed up.
He messed up totally.

(15:46):
But you know what, after years, years later, he contacted me
and asked me for help.
He's crawling back on his knees, hands and knees to, to ask me
for more nino has, uh, such abig djing business here.

Ilia (16:04):
Um, that, for a person who doesn't own a huge company with
, you know, like those companiesthat are already all over
canada and also crossing to theus for, for, like, a person with
a with a small business, technically like with like, uh,
yeah, still sold proprietorship, you know oh, it's a corporation

(16:24):
.
It is well, yeah, well, I'm justsaying, like you know, like
there's like I don't even knowhow to call it, but the ones
were like Megan Boyz or what wasthe other one.
There's just these Soul Power, the ones who are just really
huge.
Yeah Right, you're one levelbelow them, I believe, and

(16:45):
you're doing it by yourself.
And that guy knew that you haveso many connections, so much
access to so many gigs and whywould you burn yourself like
that?

Nino (16:54):
I don't know man, some people are just desperate that
way.
But yeah, whatever it's, it'sdone.

Ilia (17:03):
It just.
It makes no sense to me.
Everybody's different and toactually come back to you after
that.
I would never the gall right, the gall, the nerve I was like I
would never If I screwedsomeone over like that.
First of all I would never.
That's not my personality.
But even if I wanted to,logically knowing the type of

(17:25):
business you have and like thekind of mafia connections you
have in this industry, Iwouldn't be stupid enough to
pull something like that.
So the fact that some peoplejust don't think you get one gig
and then you burn yourself outof hundreds of other gigs, yeah,
exactly.

Nino (17:44):
Well, in the end I was still laughing because he came
back on his hands and knees backto me.
I was like, okay, I'll thinkabout it, but now I get gigs
from him once in a while now.

Ilia (17:53):
So, even though your company is pretty huge in terms
of the access you have tocertain venues and you have, you
know, over a dozen DJs workingfor you, the bigger ones, like
the one I just mentioned, there's a big one here, megan
Boyz, very successful.
They don't just do DJs, they dolike they have different acts,
right?
Do you think if he did that tothem, if he somehow breached a

(18:20):
contract and they did not suehim or anything, do you think
they would take him back?
No, A company like that?
No, not at all.
But you did, you helped him out.

Nino (18:31):
I'm nice like that yeah, no dance, it was, it's no, they
wouldn't have they would.
They would have done the samething for sure.

Ilia (18:41):
There's no way yeah, so they wouldn't have done the same
thing.
You said you took him back, youhelped.
No, you didn't take him back, you helped him out, you, you,
you gave him gigs, yeah.

Nino (18:51):
Yeah, because he was kind of new to the country, I kind of
knew he was going to come backto me, because he didn't really
have he was truly desperate ehConnections.
Yeah, yeah, I understood, but Ididn't understand because he
kind of didn't know the wayshere in Canada.
So, yeah, okay, well all right, what's?

Ilia (19:11):
Oh, wow, does this you okay?
Yes, I'm good.

Nino (19:16):
Sorry, I'm.
I'm under the weather right now.

Ilia (19:17):
So a couple episodes ago, if you remember, I think it was
episode 22 or 21.
Uh, I was saying how, hey, there's going to be some ambient
noises cause, you know, I'm uhunder the weather and Nino came
in and he's recording anyway.
Uh, I think I got my girlfriendsick and I think I got Nino
sick.
Only, you guys got way moresick than I was.
Like, you have like extra, likesymptoms.

(19:39):
I don't even know if that wasme, because I did not have that.
I had like a bit more than justa cold.
I don't know what's happened toyour throat, but yeah, I think
it says that you had someonefaint on you were you that good?

Nino (19:55):
this is like two, three, three years ago I did another
wedding and basically I startedto do the DJ, the dance, the
dancing, and then some grandmaliterally was dancing so hard.
I think it was like an aunt, like, maybe, like.
And then some grandma literallywas dancing so hard I think it

(20:15):
was like an aunt, maybe like 75or something.
So, she was elderly, I think shewas the aunt of the bride, so
she was dancing really, reallyhard.
I think she had a little toomuch to drink, too 75.
Literally she collapsed andfainted.
And did you see that happen?
I actually didn't.

(20:36):
I didn't see it happen, but Iheard somebody actually one of
the bridesmaids came up to meand stopped the music.
The ads collapsed.
So I was like, oh, okay, so Istopped it and then we had to
wait for the ambulance to comeand they had to, you know, take
care of her, attend to her andmake sure she's okay.
So we were like, okay, okay, soat least she was.

(20:58):
And then she got, they broughther to the hospital to wheeled
her out, and then she was okay, right.
So the wedding continued.
The wedding did continue.
It was this was like maybe likean hour into dancing.
So she was, she was pretty, waspretty, pretty drunk, right.
So I have that effect on dancefloor.

Ilia (21:15):
So one of the weddings I was at, um which I was djing,
actually, uh, I was, uh rememberthe spot where I used to work,
uh, as a waiter and then abartender.
Um, I did a wedding there withanother DJ.
I was supporting him and thethe grandmother had to have a

(21:39):
hospital, had to have anambulance called for her because
she tripped on the grass wherethe ceremony was taking place
and she couldn't even get to the, to the, to the part, to the
dancing part, and we waited atleast an hour, hour and a half

(22:01):
for the ambulance ambulance toarrive.
Then they couldn't open the.
Then they couldn't open the um,what is it called?
Like the the stretcher, yeah,it wouldn't open, and the like
it wouldn't like.
You know, like the wheels won't, won't like just like.

(22:21):
Luckily, one of the like weddingparty, like one of the parents
or someone, was a paramedic, yeah, and you went and helped
them out so he's also aparamedic and you helped them
out and they wheeled her out ofthere and the wedding continued,
but it was like at least anhour and a half to two hour
ordeal.
Funny enough and I'm not goingto mention the name of the place

(22:42):
I told them while I was a partof catering staff there, while,
while while I was bartendingbartending there for a couple of
shifts, I told them somebody'sgonna sue you guys because you
have so many holes in your grass, so many like little pits, and,
like you know, I like I wouldlike roll my ankle sometimes and
get really pissed because I'mholding a bunch of like trays

(23:03):
and stuff.
Yeah, it's dangerous and sureenough it happened right.
I told them that time and timeagain.
They weren't listening to meyeah, yeah, there we go.

Nino (23:12):
So there you go.

Ilia (23:13):
Yeah, it happens man that was not even like her fault.
No, your your uh grandma story.
Or like aunt story, like shewas, just like she was, slosh
boozing?
Yeah, she was boozing, but thisone just like didn't see the
like where she was, like whereshe was stepping, and it wasn't
her fault yeah, yeah, my god, well, I got, and then, and the

(23:34):
next one I have is the same samedeal.

Nino (23:37):
It was another person fainted another person fainted,
another one.
This is, yeah, another one.
This is my effect on dancefloor, right, I get them really
riled up so stuff happens right.
So you should come with adisclaimer.
Literally, I should, right, butthis time it was the father of
the bride.
This was just last year.
Was he older too?

(23:57):
Of course he was the father ofthe bride, so he's probably like
close to 70s as well, right, but he also drank a little bit,
but this time he literally itwas only 10 minutes into dancing
, so it was only like 9.30.
So, literally, and he droppedright at like after 10 minutes.

(24:19):
And then he I think he hit hishead on the ground.
So everybody was like, oh, andthen, once again, somebody told
me to turn off the music.
So I turned it off, right, andthen the bride was hysterical.
She's crying because of courseshe's so close with her dad,
right, and it's her dad.

Ilia (24:37):
So they get to do the first dance and everything.
Yeah, they did.

Nino (24:42):
They did her dad.
So they had to do the firstdance and everything.
Yeah, they did, they did right, but but obviously, of course,
at least they got to do that, yeah, yeah.
But at the same time she wasjust hysterical, going crazy.
She ran out of the room.
She came back she's justchecking her dad.
Then she ran out, just crying, crying.
Everybody felt bad, right, andum, so I stopped and we just
waited until the ambulance came.
So the ambulance made sure thathe was okay, he wheeled him out

(25:05):
and he was okay, but the actualwedding didn't continue, wait.
So they brought him back andthey just no, no, no.
They brought him to thehospital and then that was that.
Nobody wanted to dance.
But why did he fall?
Why did he trip?
He was just, he was dancing waytoo hard and he was drunk too

(25:28):
as well.
Wow, so that's my effect, man.
It's the Nino effect.
You did the Nino effect.

Ilia (25:34):
Definitely come with a disclaimer brother.

Nino (25:36):
Yeah, so that's what happened.
Literally, they stopped theparty at literally like 9.40.
The bride was like hysterical, she was crying all night and
nobody wanted to party anymorebecause it was the bride's
father.
Now, if it was someone else, like someone, like a guest, if
someone else, it's sad to saybut we probably would have

(25:59):
continued with the night.
But because it was the bride'sfather's, you know he.

Ilia (26:05):
And you never know people's health conditions and
stuff.
Maybe he was dealing withsomething, so maybe there was a
lot more than meets the eye.
Right, exactly, exactly.
But yeah, that's what happened.
There's so many gigs that youdo, you'll have a lot of stories
.

Nino (26:17):
Yeah, but you know what?

Ilia (26:21):
I'm actually redoing their wedding.

Nino (26:22):
I was gonna ask you because I'm doing their dance
floor again, because I felt bad, because I'm so happy they're
doing it.

Ilia (26:26):
I'm so happy for them.
Yeah, you did tell me somethingI was gonna ask and I'm not
charging them.

Nino (26:31):
You know, because you know right on, man, right on, you
know, yeah, right on.
So I'm doing that for them.
So, yeah, you know it's nice togive back right.
And I and I felt kind of likeit wasn't, like I wasn't
fulfilled that night because Ididn't get to rock the party yet
and it was only 10 minutes, Iwas just getting started
literally.

Ilia (26:51):
So, oh well, Do you think you should say something like
hey, mr So-and-so, don't drinktoo much tonight.

Nino (26:57):
You know what I actually said Because I brought it up to
the bride and said you know whatI actually said because I I
brought it up to the the brideand said you know what I'm gonna
?
I I'm, we gotta do it again.
I'm gonna do it for free.
Just get a venue and whatever.
It doesn't have to be anexpensive uh hall, it can be
just like a community center orsomeone's backyard or house, and
I'll do it for free, right, butthis time can you get some?
Maybe someone to watch overyour dad, or maybe like sit down

(27:20):
, or someone, someone to justwatch him so he doesn't go off,
and it's like what did they get?

Ilia (27:25):
they get like a big venue again, or they actually did get
a big venue.

Nino (27:29):
I guess I haven't.
I haven't done it yet it's.
It's in like a couple of monthsstill.
You'll probably need to comewith you july.
You'll need some help.
Yeah, oh, okay, I'll let youknow.

Ilia (27:38):
It's been a while since I came on a wedding or like any
gig with you.
I know, I know, right, wow,it's been a while.
It's been a while it's beenhard for you.
You miss it.
You miss it.
You do you miss it it's fun.

Nino (27:52):
It was fun.
Yeah, of course, of course it'sfun.
Man, we're just, we're justplaying around, right, but yeah,
that's, that's that.
Um, this one time I uh didn'tget paid for a gig.

Ilia (28:05):
How do you?
I'm sorry that I'm stopping you.
It's one big paragraph.
How are you seeing?
Like what?
Where are the like?

Nino (28:14):
sorry it's down here.
I already went througheverything.
Oh okay, so I already know.

Ilia (28:19):
I already know right, so is that the?
Okay, I can't even say the name, but I know which one you're
talking about yes, it's a, it'sa makeup brand.

Nino (28:25):
It's a big one in here in canada.
If I say the name, you guyswill know they have stores
everywhere, multiple stores, andum, they get me all the time
they got.
They got me as much as theother one would get me and I
didn't start with them, but theygot me good for a good like
three, four years so, and I'vebeen doing all of their close

(28:45):
relationship yes, very, very, very close right and um, they
were having a special event, butthese people were coming from
montreal now, right, so theydidn't know me personally.

Ilia (28:57):
We're in toronto, in the suburbs, so we're talking about
a couple hour drive yeah, so I Iwas in contact with them More
than a couple hours.

Nino (29:04):
The actual company recommended me, so they
contacted me straight, thesepeople from Montreal, and then
they told me what they needexactly Because they have like a
special artist that's doinglike makeup on people.

(29:24):
So they need certain things andwhatever I need to be set up
yeah, yeah, yeah.
So it was a.
It was a big artist that wasdoing like a, um, like a
showcase or something for forthe crowd, right and um, I, I,
right, and I thought we gotmixed Things, got mixed up in
the details and I thought, ok,wireless microphone, you guys

(29:48):
need my wireless microphone, right, but they actually meant a
headset microphone like awireless handheld.
Yeah, without no hands.

Ilia (29:59):
Just like our headphones with the mic.

Nino (30:00):
Yeah, exactly so they were looking for that and I totally
misunderstood.
They didn't really specify, butthat's what they wanted, right?
So on the day of Sorry, sorry, sorry, whose fault was it?
I guess it was my fault for notDouble checking that you

(30:20):
understand.
Double checking that Iunderstood it, but that's, they
did not explain they did notexplain it very, very well, but
putting two and two together, ifthey were putting makeup on
someone, I guess yeah I did.

Ilia (30:34):
You're really trying to see how it was your fault, but
it could have been a bit more.
It could have been a little bitmore like, like if they told
you it's not a wireless mic, weneed our hands been a little bit
more like like if they told youit's not a wireless mic, we
need our hands to be free.
Yeah, if they said somethinglike that, you would know right
I would know to use a headsetmicrophone.

Nino (30:49):
I didn't.
They didn't say that they justneed a wireless it's our
responsibility to always doublecheck.

Ilia (30:55):
Right, yeah yeah.

Nino (30:56):
So I end up doing the gig and the way they did it.
I was actually freaking out onthe day of and I was looking for
a headset microphone on the dayof.
I was trying to find a Long andMcQuaid really close by or a

(31:17):
Best Buy, but I couldn't findone.
I'm surprised that a place likethat was not near Long and
McQuaid, really close by or abest buy, but I couldn't find
one.

Ilia (31:22):
I'm surprised that a place like that was not near Long
McQuaid.

Nino (31:26):
It was downtown, the middle of downtown, so it was.
There's Long McQuaids there.

Ilia (31:30):
There are, but you did not have enough time, because
driving there a short distancetakes a long time, literally, I
start in like 20 minutes.

Nino (31:41):
Oh, there's no way, there's no way, and I wouldn't
even be able to drive for sure.
I was thinking of walking this, anything walking this?
You knew me back then.
Well, yeah, you would go get it, I'd help you out, right?

Ilia (31:56):
But it was literally too late For a symbolic fee.

Nino (31:58):
So what they did, what they did, they um, they got
someone to hold the microphoneat for the, for the actual
person doing the um the show, right, so they didn't have to do
it with their hands.
So so I thought everything waswas okay because they made it

(32:19):
work right.
We did the gig, I, I killed it,people were dancing in the
store and everything.
So after a few, uh, like thenext day, of course, they
haven't paid me and so I asked,I, I emailed them and asked them
for for my payment, and they'relike no, I don't think we're
gonna pay you.
I was like what?

(32:41):
We're not gonna pay you becauseyou didn't, you didn't fulfill
your obligation.
We needed a headset, mic and itwas so inconvenient because you
didn't bring it.

Ilia (32:52):
Like but everything else was on point.
Yeah, it was, it was, it wasgreat and, like you've had a
long relationship.

Nino (33:00):
But this is another company.
It's the same company, but adifferent group.
Oh, okay, okay okay.

Ilia (33:08):
Because it's a huge chain.

Nino (33:09):
Yeah, yeah.
So they were from Montreal andthey were supposed to pay me the
next day, but they didn't.
So, yeah, did you stop workingwith all of them after this?
No, the actual company is still, didn't you?

Ilia (33:21):
recently have an event with them like a few months ago.

Nino (33:24):
Yes, yes, yes they still, they still get me uh once in a
while.
But, um, yeah, it kind of didtarnish our, uh, my reputation
with them a little bit.
But uh, yeah, I didn't get paidfor that.
So, yeah, it was, it was, itwas tough, I, I didn't even I
couldn't even come after themright, like I could have

(33:44):
technically.
But is it even better to saveface and yeah, and kind of not
not make it worse.
That's noble, that situation, because because, like, the
customer is always right andthey're gonna be like fighting
me over it, like, yeah, hedidn't provide this and I'm like
it's gonna cost you more tofight it it is.

Ilia (33:59):
It's gonna tarnish your reputation even more right
exactly, exactly, so I just leftit alone.

Nino (34:04):
I'm like, no, there's no way, so I just left alone.
I didn't get paid, that'sthat's, that's my thing.

Ilia (34:10):
And then you know, I know you have a couple other gigs, at
least one more gig where youdidn't get paid and all that
stuff.

Nino (34:15):
But I know there's one very particularly interesting
story okay, yes, yes, this isthe one I wanted to get to so
we'll talk about the other ones.
Maybe another episode, but likebut this one, I know now I did.
I did a wedding at this venuethat I do weddings all the time,
right, and uh, at this weddingin particular, I was uh

(34:36):
videotaping for my vlog.
I have a youtube channel, bythe way uh, shameless plug but
um, it's called dj nine's world.
But, um, yeah, um, yes, I was,I was videotaping it and I asked
the actual bride and groom ifit was okay and they were like,

(34:57):
yeah, sure, why not?
So, because I was uh djing thethe dance portion.
This lady, this pretty pretty,uh young lady, comes to me and
says, hi, are you recording this?
I'm like, yeah, why?
Because, um, can I look at thefootage?

(35:18):
I'm like, why, why would youeven think?
It made me think like, wow, you're busy and I'm busy, I'm
djing, like people are dancing, the dance floor is full, right.
So, um, I looked back on thatand the next day I was like, I
checked the footage and thenapparently there was this couple

(35:41):
teasing that girl, like she hada short skirt right, so they
were like lifting her, her skirtup and apparently she didn't
have any undergarments.
So, um, there was one momentwhere the the guy took her over

(36:01):
her shoulder, over his shoulder, over his shoulder, and then the
girl actually pulled up is herskirt, and then I, I caught it
on camera, and then that, Iguess that's why she was were
you guys working together?
No, so I caught it on camera,so I guess that's what she was
like, uh, harping about, right.

(36:22):
So I was like, oh my gosh, shewasn't wearing it.
She knew exactly.
But when you go, when you go,commander, you take the risk.
Hey, hey, what can you do,right?
So, yeah, those and it happenssometimes they teach when people
find out stuff like that theytease you the whole night, right
, it was.
It's funny that I caught it oncamera, but it's very, very

(36:44):
embarrassing for her.
I did, uh, post the blog, uh,the actual vlog, and I did
censor her face so they wouldn'tknow, not just the face from
the waist up, you, you wouldn'tbe able to know it was her.
But, yes, the, the skirt thing,I did censor that as well.

(37:05):
Oops, yeah, so, yeah, Iwitnessed that.
So, yeah, a couple of thingsthat I, I went through and
there's probably gonna be a lotmore, I'm sure, and, of course,
you two men, you're gonna gothrough a lot of things I, I, I
have a couple things here andthere, but nothing that major.

Ilia (37:27):
I'm trying to think right now, like is there anything?
And all I'm getting in my headis I'm just like I, I don't
remember.
I, I had certain moments whichwere like either annoying or
like are you kidding me?
Moments, nothing this insane, except you know what I did tell
you about the, the oldergrandmother you know, falling

(37:51):
and she broke something.
She actually broke something.
It wasn't my personally, likemy wedding, that I was doing by
myself, but it was one of myevents, I was being paid for it
and everything.
So, yeah, I guess that's itthat I was doing by myself, but
it was one of my events, I wasbeing paid for it and everything
.
Um, so, yeah, I guess that's it.
That's it.
Well, thank you very much.

Nino (38:09):
Uh, thanks for listening to my stories.
But we'll get.
We'll have more in the future.

Ilia (38:13):
Yeah, and thanks for joining another episode of the
Clever DJ.
See you guys in the next one.

Nino (38:17):
See you guys next Wednesday See you then.
