Speaker 1 (00:20):
what's up guys,
welcome.
Welcome back to the ClinchPodcast.
If you hear purring, this is mycat, starboy.
He was crying as soon as Istarted recording so I just had
to put him in my lap.
I can't wait for you guys toall meet my pets, for you all to
(00:42):
meet my pets.
Once I start doing the YouTubeseries, they'll definitely be
making a lot of appearances, soI can't wait for that.
But today I wanted to just trysomething new with you guys and
hopefully we all like it.
But basically all I wanted todo today, especially after the
(01:07):
past couple of weeks going overa lot of crazy UFC conspiracy
theories and some background onConor McGregor.
That just blew me away.
So if you haven't heard those,go back and listen.
But if you are in more of achill mood, more conversational
(01:31):
mood, this is going to be yourepisode today.
And also, if you don't know mepersonally, I am in college.
I went for a while in 2015,starting in 2015, and then life
got very lifey, so I am nowcontinuing that journey.
(01:54):
That journey I don't want tosound like that, but I did just
finish the semester too, so I'vebeen enjoying time off school,
even though I did enjoy schoolthoroughly and that semester I
just finished, I ended with allas, so I'm super excited.
So I just want to celebratethat with you guys by just
(02:17):
talking about the fights lastweekend and talking about some
UFC news in a new segment that Iwill introduce a little later
on.
So I want to go ahead and juststart.
Ooh, y'all heard that, y'allheard that.
Crazy, I promise, I'm pastpuberty.
(02:39):
But yeah, so let's go ahead andstart off with Kennedy.
But yeah, so let's go ahead andstart off with Kennedy.
I always get tongue tied, as I'msure a lot of other people do,
but in oh gosh, okay, versus, also another hard one.
(03:01):
Also another hard one, lukaszBreszki.
So I heard it all throughout.
You know Fight Camp and all ofthat, but to actually pronounce
it when I'm talking about it isa whole different story.
And yes, my dog is playing inthe background.
That's just the space we haveright now.
(03:21):
So enjoy his playing sounds.
But it was a crazy way to kickoff fight night.
I really thought that that wasjust a perfect way.
I know Kennedy will eventuallystart, you know, consistently
being on main cards just withoutyou performs.
And I didn't know a lot aboutbrushreschke before I watched
(03:46):
that fight, you know.
So going in I was leaningKennedy and it just worked out.
You know he knocked him cleanout and it was such a good fight
.
And Clay Guida also did muchbetter than I thought.
Not, I don't mean that in a badway.
I do love Clay Guida and he hasbeen one of the consistent
figures since I started enjoyingthe whole MMA world.
(04:11):
So I don't want you guys tothink that I thought he was
going to suck, because obviouslyhe is Clay Guida.
Like he always shoots out likea little cannonball is how I see
him.
It's like as soon as the refsays go or fight, uh, he just
(04:33):
kind of like turns into a littleTasmanian devil cannonball.
So I I love Clay Guida, um.
So I am glad that he justconsistently shows that he's not
done and that he does havefight in him, you know.
But Chase is just a reallysneaky problem.
(04:54):
He's super unsuspecting but hehas just immense energy in the
octagon.
So it was a really good fight.
I really liked it.
I liked seeing some more ofChase, since he's relatively new
to the UFC and of course Ialways love seeing Clay Guida,
it's always a pleasure.
And then Michael Chiesa for somereason, he surprises me every
(05:16):
time he wins.
I don't know why.
I'm just like, well, okay, didn't see that coming every
single time he wins, you know.
But he deserves a lot morecredit than I usually give him.
You know, he made Max look kindof bad out there.
So, you know, just props to him, and I just need to have more
(05:37):
faith in Kiesa because he has areally good record.
I've.
You know what it is.
I probably just saw his lastfew losses before he beat Tony,
and I have a super weak memory.
You know, I have recencysyndrome real bad, you know.
So I probably just forgot abouthis win streak before that.
(05:59):
So, you know, you win some, youlose some.
But I think for me, when I'mlooking at fighters currently, I
kind of look at their like mostrecent streaks and if they're
like losses or if they're winsand what they look like.
And that's how I form mydecisions.
Everyone's different, you know.
Some people have a bettermemory and they're like, oh well
(06:21):
, from 2021 to 2020, whatever, you know, he won this way, this
way and this way and I'm like, okay, I forgot what I had for
breakfast this morning.
So thank you, you know.
But yeah, so I have to justhave more faith in him.
This fight definitely just wokeme up to Michael Chiesa again,
(06:46):
you know.
So I really liked it.
And then Joshua Vann versus CodyDurden, and every time I see
his last name I just think likeI don't know, I just kind of
think of Holland for some reason, like Durden, like Cody Durden,
durden, durden, durden, youknow, like I don't know what it
(07:08):
is.
I'm really sorry.
You just had to listen to that, but you know we're all just
hanging out and just talkingabout fights, and if you were
actually hanging out with me,that is what you would be
dealing with.
So it was just a really coolfight to watch.
Uh, van is the one who kept itexciting for me.
He just kind of broke Dardendown throughout the entire fight
(07:30):
in just all the ways, in manydifferent ways, and he showed a
lot of durability and techniqueand it was a highlight fight for
him.
He really got to showcase hisskill, and what helped that
image too is that Cody didn'treally like totally suck either.
You know he got some reallygood moments in there too, so it
just further highlighted Van.
(07:51):
I thought in that sense too,and oh, that was probably crazy
to listen to too.
Um, I was really disappointed inBrian Battle.
I'm sure a lot of you sharethat feeling.
I just think that the fightshould have turned out so
(08:11):
differently and could haveturned out so differently had he
made weight, and I think theyshould have.
The UFC should have justrescheduled the fight in my
opinion, because he, had he madeweight, it would have been
fight in my opinion, because hehad he made weight, it would
have been.
I think that Randy would havewalked straight through battle
just based on how battle wasperforming, given the advantages
(08:34):
that he had.
I mean, the whole fight wasjust really underwhelming for me
and with Brian battle's wholeI'm the butcher persona like and
coming in heavier should havebeen enough to set him up for a
completely dominant performanceand that just didn't happen, not
in my opinion.
But you know what do I know?
(08:55):
You know, I think that Randyheld his own the entire fight
and just mathematically fight.
Mathematically.
That would have equaled a moredominant Randy Brown had the
scales been more even.
And then what also sucks is thatthe fight itself felt like it
was just at a stalemate becauseof Randy being the better
(09:21):
fighter and Bryan having theunfair advantage.
You know, just kind of put thatfight at a stalemate and it
just made it kind of boring.
So I'm not even sure where hebooked the fight, which super
sucks.
So just an anticlimactic, anticlimactic end to what I
(09:42):
really thought was going to befight of the night.
I felt that in my core that itwas going to be fight of the
night.
I felt that in my core that itwas going to be fight of the
night.
And then this happens and itjust sucks, so whatever.
And then we had AljamainSterling versus Musar Evloev.
I'm pretty sure I'm pronouncingthat wrong too, but it is what
(10:03):
it is.
All I can do can do is try, youknow, but that fight was really
good, like michael kiesa kindof.
I forgot how good aljo was, is,and so I was just super like
invested in this fight and justwatching his technique and how
amazing it is, how reallybeautiful and flawless his
(10:28):
wrestling was.
And I do want to say I do havemore faith in him than I had in
Chiesa.
Like I understood that AljamainSterling is good, like he is
Aljamain Sterling, but I justkind of forgot that he was that
good.
I mean, he's up against mosar, who is just a incredible
(10:50):
wrestler, just a glued to youkind of guy like you know.
Habib, habib, habib never getmade of and you know the like
you.
So I I really enjoyed seeinghow Aljo performed in in harmony
with that, so I liked it.
(11:12):
And then Dominic Reyes versusAnthony Smith pretty much went
exactly how I thought it wouldgo.
And Anthony, just to me, hejust kind of has a soft chin and
you know, dominic Reyes wenttoe-to-toe with Jon Jones.
So I was just confused on thematchup as a whole, because I
(11:34):
kind of look at Anthony Smith alittle side-eyed just because
he's a really decent commentatorbut as far as his fighting goes
it's just like a why are youstill doing that kind of thing?
And I know that sounds so rudeand I'm sorry, but that boy out,
(12:01):
that boy's chin is soft.
And to match him up againstDominic Reyes of all people, I
mean not that I feel like Reyesis some shining star, but he
obviously has the talent to geteven the slightest nod of praise
from Jon Jones.
So it was just weird to me.
(12:23):
It was a bizarre matchup but itwent how I thought and it was
entertaining.
It was just kind of a littlesad at the same time.
But you know, if you're anAnthony Smith fan, I'm sorry for
you.
Um, good luck next time.
(12:43):
But now I want to talk aboutbryce mitchell versus cron
gracie.
That also went pretty much howI thought.
I mean bryce mitchell's justkind of undeniable.
At this point I feel like Imean, I'm still not like a Bryce
super fan, nor do I think Iever will be, but he's fun to
(13:07):
watch.
He's, he's gimmicky and he,he's just he's bizarre.
I don't know, I I'm using thatword a lot today in this episode
, but it was just weird.
It was just weird a weird card.
And then, uh, cyril Gon versusAlexander Volkov.
That one I I wanted Cyril goneto win, but I kind of don't
(13:35):
think he did, and I think a lotof us agree.
I think you know what Okay, Ithought he had.
I think the first round, fromwhat I remember, was kind of
like eh, so I can see how it wasscored for him.
I just I don't know, I don'tknow.
(13:59):
I really think Volkov won that.
But who knows, I'm not a judge.
The judges even shouldn't bejudges.
They get stuff wrong so often.
But I'm just not sure that thisfight was so so far off that it
.
It's like oh okay, this is likeI've seen.
(14:22):
I've seen more wrong fights,I've seen more wrong decisions.
I mean like I've seen far worse.
So I don't know.
I want to hear what you guysthink, though.
Let me know if you think thatSaragon actually won and how,
how you scored it.
Let me, yeah, let me know howyou scored it, so that I can
kind of like analyze it next tomy mental notes.
(14:45):
So I don't know, that'll be fun, let me know.
And then Shafqat Rahmana versusIan Machado Gary.
I thought that the Ian Garytrain was going to start to slow
down a little bit, and I thinkthis fight kind of showed that.
(15:08):
I think it was just kind ofhe's not as big and bold as he
was trying to set himself up tobe.
I think he wanted to step intoConor McGregor's shoes, but that
is just a nearly impossibleshoe to fill.
So I and and many aspects, butin this one in particular, in
(15:33):
the cage, just because Connorhad that energy, the entire
event, like you knew, it wasjust Connor air.
It was like you were breathingin Connor McGregor's energy, at
any event, even just watchingfrom, like watching a TV, and
(16:00):
Ian Gary just doesn't have that, but he also just doesn't have
the technical ability thatConnor had when he's at his
prime.
I mean, I'm sure he still hasthat technical ability.
That I don't think is somethingthat a lot of that can be
easily lost throughout time.
I think that if Connor were tocome back, that he would still
(16:20):
have amazing precision andtechnique and just muscle memory
.
Really.
I mean, the way he moves isjust so signature, but I just
think that there's going to besome way that he is lacking.
And going back to Ian Gary, Ithink that he just kind of
(16:41):
doesn't really reach thatparticular caliber at this time,
at this time.
I don't think that you're readyto be the next Kana.
So yeah, I just don't thinkthat's going to happen.
And then Alexandra Pantoja Is heBrazilian?
(17:03):
He's not Brazilian.
Pantoja Pantoja versus KaiAsakura.
So this one, I mean I wasn'treally excited about it.
Okay, so he is Brazilian, soit's Pantoja.
I wasn't really excited aboutit.
I mean, it's just I wassurprised that Pantoja even won
(17:27):
the belt, but not because of hisskill he's obviously very
talented it's just because ofthe my familiarity with him.
So yeah, I I mean it was afight, a fight was had and he
won it.
So very cool.
That's all I have to say aboutthat one.
But that was UFC 310.
(17:48):
It was, I think, kind of a midcard, but I mean, I don't know,
let me know what you think.
I, I want to know what you guysthink.
It definitely was an odd way, Ifeel like, to kind of close the
year on pay-per-views.
So I don't know, let me knowwhat you guys think.
And now I just wanted to do aquick segment, a new segment
(18:13):
called the death scroll.
So it's just kind of like ajoke I have with myself, really,
because I don't really like tobe on social media too much and
I just kind of get bored from itafter a little bit.
But sometimes I'll get in thesemoods where I'm just scrolling.
(18:34):
Everyone does it, you know.
But I call it the death scrollbecause I just it's like you get
sucked into a time machine, butnot like the cool kind where
you can go back and fix stuff,or maybe that's not so cool, but
more of like a wow, three hourshave passed.
No, I don't think I'm ever onthe phone that long, but I do
(18:57):
call it a death scroll justbecause I do lose track of time
and so I just wanted to gothrough just some Instagram
pages MMA new page, sorry.
Mma news pages, espn MMA, mmaJunkie you know all of those.
And today I wanted to just gothrough ESPN MMA and just look
(19:22):
and see what we have.
Oh, ilya Teporya challengesCharles Oliveira at 155 pounds.
That would be super fun.
I think that would be a coolone to watch, he says, since
Islam is going to fight inJanuary and he's not going to be
ready for April or May, I wouldlike to fight the number one
(19:43):
contender, which is CharlesOliveira.
Yeah, I'm down to see that.
That would be crazy.
That would be fireworks forsure.
And also the reason I'm doingthis segment is because it's
just like kind of chilling andscrolling through MMA news and
just want, like the things thatI think about when I see these
(20:06):
and don't have anyone nearby, you know, to talk about it with,
but I just kind of just scrollpast it and don't really get
time to chew on it or elaboratemy thoughts on certain.
You know to talk about it with, but I just kind of just scroll
past it and don't really gettime to chew on it or elaborate
my thoughts on certain you knowlittle posts, so I do hope you
enjoy this.
Let me know.
So we'll do a couple more, afew more.
(20:28):
Let's see.
Let's see, see, ooh, shavkaRahmanov had a torn MCL going
into UFC 310.
So a lot of you have probablyseen this already.
Um, I saw it a little earlier.
This was so crazy to me.
It made me think, like how, howdo you fight with, with torn
(20:51):
muscles like that?
That sounds excruciating.
Shafqat's just made out ofsomething else.
And people who fight like withinjuries like he has, like I
believe Uriah Hall fought withlike a completely broken toe
that was like L-shaped one time.
And of course, you have RobbieLawler, who fought with a
completely just split lip, asplit, you know.
(21:17):
So it's just, it's insane to me.
Uh, let's see.
Um, yeah, dana white seems tohave agreed that volkov won that
fight.
He seemed to have thought thatthat was a robbery as well.
Let's see.
Oh, yeah, lots of posts aboutthat.
(21:39):
Volkov's very angry.
Okay, let's see AlexandraPantoja to Demetrius Johnson.
I thought that this was a weird.
This was weird when I read it.
You know it.
If you've heard past episodes, you know how odd it is to me
when fighters call out otherfighters who are retired.
(22:02):
Um, keep, keep the competitiongoing where there are
challengers.
You know it's, it's kind ofjust.
It should just kind of be fate.
If you are not, my cat Hello, hello Clinch Crew.
He's saying hello Everyone.
(22:25):
Say hi, starboy.
Okay, so I don't know, justleave the retired fighters alone
.
Um, feed, feed the challenger.
Stop feeding people who'vealready, you know, made their
own tables Like I don't know.
Are you following me?
Yeah, are you really feeling me?
You know, but he said I'm thegoat in here.
(22:48):
If you want to prove you're thegoat, come back.
He, he did already.
And he said go, come back.
He, he did already.
And he said uh, anthony johnsonsaid anthony johnson, demetrius
johnson said guys, I gotoffered two million dollars to
fight.
I turned it down, I don't careto fight anymore.
Yeah, it just leave.
Leave him in happy retirement.
Chase some young blood.
(23:09):
You know, keep the competitionfresh and and challenging.
Ooh, zhang Weili versus TatianaSuarez.
That is set for February 8th inSydney and that'll be for USC
312.
That'll be such a good fight.
(23:31):
I really think that'll be great.
Hopefully Suarez stays injuryfree With the rate and amount of
injury she's experienced.
I'm curious to see how she doesagainst Zhang Weili, because
Zhang Weili is just an immovableforce.
I feel like you know so.
But also Tatiana Suarez is very, very swift, very um witty when
(23:58):
it comes to fighting.
So I I think it'll be.
I think it's a good matchup.
I think that if I had to, if Iwas betting, I would bet Zhang
Weili, but we'll definitely see.
That'll be fun watch.
Sorry, I know, I said I'd onlydo a couple or a few more, but
there's been a lot of news addedthis week and it's looking
(24:20):
really good out here in thefight realm.
Let's see.
Let's do one more, okay, yeah,we also have Drakus Drikus
Duplessis versus uh SeanStrickland, and that uh will be
a rematch and that will also beum at UFC 312.
(24:44):
I wonder if this is the mainevent.
It looks like this will be themain event, so that'll be
exciting.
I am not particularly excitedabout either fighter, but Jukka
Suplassis has proven to beanother fighter who has fought
(25:04):
to stand where they stand um inas only as far as MMA is
concerned, and I think thatit'll be entertaining.
I mean, sean Strickland isusually entertaining.
As long as I'm not listening toanything he says, as long as
I'm just watching him fightit'll be fine, but I know I'll
(25:26):
definitely be harping when itcomes.
You know fight week and you'llhear me complain.
So I'm super excited about thatfight.
I think that that will be a goodcard.
I'm curious to see who elsethey add to it.
And, like I said, ufc 310 waswas pretty cool.
(25:47):
I thought it was a littlesubpar, but I think a lot of
that has to just do with howexcited I was for Randy Brown
versus Brian Battle and howdisappointing that ended up
being.
So take that with a grain ofsalt and we do have UFC fight
night.
(26:08):
It looks like that is ColbyCovington versus Joaquin Buckley
.
Y'all know I'm rocking withBuckley a thousand percent if
I'm betting, and I'm just goingthrough those that card.
Right now Davey Grant isfighting.
How about that?
I've been watching Davey Grantum in the UFC since his time in
(26:30):
on the ultimate fighter, ofcourse, ron Rossi hello hi, um,
but sorry about that, and so I'msuper excited about that.
I think Davey's always fun towatch um and Ramon Tavares he is
pretty good too.
So I'm I'm excited.
I think Ramon might have it, sowe'll see.
(26:52):
And Miranda Maverick back inthe octagon, that'll be fun.
I think she's super talented.
I think that this will be apretty decent fight.
It looks like she's fightingJamie Lynn Horst.
I'm not familiar with who thatis, but I guess we'll find out.
Let's see who else.
(27:13):
Miles johns versus felipe limaanother good matchup.
Miles johns might take it.
Let's see sean woodson versusfernando padilla.
Um, oh, he's got an interestingfunky smile.
Go check that out on ufccomthat that'll give you a little
laugh.
And Joel Alvarez versus DracarClose.
(27:36):
Very good fight, very goodmatchup.
Not sure I think I'd go Joelhere.
Michael Johnson versus Ottomanor Ottoman Ottoman Empire,
ottoman Azatar yeah, I thinkthis is another good one.
Michael Johnson, how do I thinkyou're going to do against
(27:57):
Ottman?
I don't know, I think Ottman'sgot it.
I'd say Ottman.
He's just a little bit moresturdy, I feel like.
So That'll definitely give himthe edge.
Let's see Navajo Sterling.
I think I've heard of him, butI can't recall any fights that
(28:18):
he's been in that I've seen he'sfighting Tuco Chocos.
I'm not familiar with him atall, so we'll find out.
Adrian Yanez versus DanielMarcos that's another really
good matchup.
I would say Adrian Yanez onthis one.
Vitor Petrino versus DustinJacoby oh, that'll be
(28:44):
interesting.
I am not sure I'd say Vitor.
I'd say Vitor on this one.
Manel Cape versus Bruno Silva, bruno Silva, 1,000 million
percent.
Cub Swanson, cubby versus BillyGuarantijo, let's see, I'd say,
(29:07):
oh, I don't know, I don't knowthat's going to be a good fight.
Please, don't let anythinghappen.
Both these fighters make weightinjuries.
Please, please, no world endingnothing.
Come on.
Cub Swanson versus BillyGuarantijo, that will be fire.
Um, cub Swanson, uh no, I keep.
(29:31):
Okay, maybe Cub, I don't know,Billy's so good, I don't know.
I'll get back to you guys onthat one, I'll, I'll let you
know.
And, of course, colby Covingtonversus Joaquin Buckley.
Like I said earlier, joaquinBuckley, all the way, my friends
(29:53):
.
So that pretty much wraps upthis episode.
Guys, thank you so much forhanging out and just listening
to me rant and rave about fightsand just talk about what I'm
excited for coming up andlistening to my pets make their
comments.
They're very opinionated.
(30:14):
Listening to my pets make theircomments, they're very
opinionated, more opinionatedthan me, if you can believe it.
But yeah, thank you guys.
So much for listening.

like there's two from an old onethat I did that I don't know
how to get rid of.
If you're tech savvy, uh, pleaselet me know how to do that.
But it's the one with me with apink thing on my head and that
(31:52):
