Join me this week as I share about the simple pleasures of being a beginner - and why we need to slow down and relish the present moment instead of rushing towards the next achievement. There’s an offer at the end of the show for listeners to get a unique process to tap into their intuition before starting any creative work.

In this episode, I share -

  • Why I think being a beginner is a beautiful experience, and how interesting it is that our minds often rush towards certainty.
  • The significance of relishing the present moment before setting our sights on the next mountain peak.
  • The pleasure of being a beginner and the power of savoring the present moment.

Scarlett 2i2 USB (00:24):
Welcome to today's episode, The Pleasure of
Being a Beginner.
Today I'm sharing with you arecording that I made a year
ago, as I was about to beginwhat I knew would be a
transformative program for me.
I noticed that while being abeginner feels quite
pleasurable, my mind wanted togo into the future and look

(00:48):
forward to, and attach to,certainty, to feeling like I had
a handle on things, to feelinglike I was in flow within this
program.
I watched how I wanted to skipover this very important phase
of beginning, when we can soakin how fun it is, and all the

(01:08):
anticipation, and all the happyhormones that are circulating.
I was so touched as Ire-listened to myself from a
year ago, and also deeplyinspired, which that feels kind
of funny to say, but it's true.
My takeaway from myself, lol, isto slow down and be with being a

(01:29):
beginner.
What are we rushing to?
To become an expert just so thatwe can become a beginner at the
next thing?
It's so silly when you reallythink about it.
I hope that this resonates withmy fellow achievers.
Once we see that life iscyclical, and we really get it,

(01:49):
we can begin to work with ourpatterns of striving and
achieving, and instead findexactly what we want in this
moment because it's alwaysthere.
Let's get into today's show.
I wanna read you what I wrotethis morning.
So I haven't really been writingthis past week.

(02:10):
I feel like I'm in this kind oftransition phase and I just
haven't been in the head spaceto sit down and write, and I
don't make that a problemanymore.
I don't think that I'm breakingmy habit.
I just know when I have troublesitting down to write, like when
I try to sit down and write andwrite a couple sentences and
stop.
I don't force myself.
I just know that, it's not forright now.

(02:31):
Right now I'm living and I'mthinking and I'm maybe having a
new experience or something andI want to take and allow that
time knowing that I will want towrite and reflect and process,
that will come back, and I canalways return to it when I have
that desire.
So that's what I did thismorning and I started really
simply because I knew I had somestuff on my mind by writing

(02:54):
down, what am I thinking about?
Super simple question, right?
So, and I wanna read it to youbecause I've been thinking about
this topic for like the pastweek or so, and this feels like
it's kind of emerging.
So this is what I wrote.
I'm thinking about the pleasureof being a beginner, the
pleasure of being a beginner, ifwe can allow ourselves to pull

(03:16):
our foot off the gas.
And resist feeling like we're ina rush.
We will never get back thismoment in time.
This level of experience matchedwith hope, possibility, and
shaky belief, which is kind ofmagic in a bottle, right?
This moment, it's like being onthe precipice.
And I hate roller coasters, butthat moment right before you're

(03:38):
about to tip over that moment offree fall when you aren't
finished climbing yet, butyou're also not in the descent
yet, you're just kind of hangingout right at the top, or maybe
just before the top.
It's magic.
Why are we in such a rush to bedone, complete, and get there?
Why do we wanna rush throughthis phase?

(03:59):
And we don't stop and dwell inthe pleasure of just before.
And I wonder if that's becausewe're not sure it'll work and
our minds focus on that andworry and fret about that,
rather than believing it isworking, and we're gonna get
where we wanna go, and we'llhave what we want.
And in the meantime, we can justbe and enjoy it- a little more.

(04:22):
I know not all the way, right?
If you believed that things werefalling into place and you were
going to create or get exactlywhat you wanted, could you just
be in that phase of waiting, butjust before you know what's
gonna happen?
We miss the most beautiful partsof life when we don't stop and

(04:43):
recognize it or appreciate it.
Appreciate what we've created, which are the exact conditions
that got us right here, set upand ready to launch, to take
off, to create exactly what wewant.
We miss anticipating all that iscoming, and we forget to just be
here right now in this moment.

(05:04):
And we don't take it all in.
What I am thinking about istaking in the views.
What does it feel like righthere, right now?
This human experience exactly asit is?
I'm thinking about taking it inbefore I set my sights on the
next mountain peak.
Life is cyclical.

(05:25):
And once you really get this, the rush to get to the next
mountain peak wears off becauseyou know that once you get
there, then you're just gonnaset your sights on the next
mountain peak.
And there's a lot of learningand growth and growth edges that
we go through.
And so what I'm questioning iswhy not just enjoy this moment a
little bit more, when you'reright here, before you look onto

(05:47):
the next one and start theprocess all over again?
Rather, notice what is differentin this cycle?
What sticks out?
What's different about you?
What feels different?
How are you different?
What are you thinking about?
Relish it.
It's what life is made of.
So that's what I wrote about.

(06:08):
And I wanna tell you that forme, I'm in this phase right now.
I shared last week that I wasaccepted into a program that I
am just deeply honored andexcited to begin, and it's
starting in a couple weeks.
And normally, and I've kind ofwatched this happen, my mind
starts to get a little, like, you know, I just wanted to be
here cuz I just wanna knowwhat's gonna happen, and what I

(06:28):
need to do and dates andcalendars and like, what
projects and how am I gonnawork, work this into my
workflow, et cetera.
Right?
My minds like started going, andI was like, wait a minute.
I will never have this momentagain, like before I started
this program or even completedthe program if I go into the

(06:50):
future, I'll never get thisback.
And I don't wanna rush that.
I wanna like be in the deeppleasure right now of knowing
that it's coming.
All of it is coming.
But right now I'm just in thatwaiting zone.
I just like, I know it's coming.
I know I'm going to be doing allthe things but right now I just
get to enjoy the deep pleasureof being accepted into this

(07:14):
program, and the anticipation, and the planning that my mind is
going through, and feelingexcited and anticipatory of it
all.
And not being in a rush tobegin, or be there, or be a few
months, in or feel like I'mgetting it, or whatever.
So I would be super curious tohear your thoughts about this.
Let me know how you feel whenyou're waiting, when you're in

(07:36):
this, at the precipice.
That's what I have for you.
I am so glad that you are hereand that we get to walk our
paths together.
See you next time.
Same time, same place.
Bye for now.
