finest in art, fashion, design, culture, luxury, wellness, tech
and more.
This is your go-to space fordiscovering trailblazing ideas,
untold stories and meaningfulconversations with innovators
(00:31):
and creators who are shaping ourworld.
There's no gatekeeping here, sosit back, tune in and let's
discover only the best together,together.
(00:53):
Hey, my loves.
So I feel like it's been aminute since I've picked up the
mic and spoken to you guys, andI really see your messages.
I see everyone in public whenyou guys come up to me and ask
me for more solo episodes.
I understand that they're someof your favorite and I love that
so much.
I think the reason you guyslove them is because they're
uncut.
So here is kind of a little bitof like a curation focused
(01:14):
pre-summer catch-up episode.
A lot has been going on.
You guys, like I mean, really,if you're following on Instagram
, you're going to see that I'vedived very, very deep into the
world of Pilates.
I'm really excited to announcethat I finally got my Legree
official certification, whichI'll do another full episode
(01:38):
about the difference betweenLegree and classical Pilates and
why this is relevant and cooland important and all of that.
I'm just so proud to be theonly trainer in my city right
now, cairo, that has acertification in Legree and
classical Pilates, math andreformer, so that's super
(02:00):
special and I hope to be sharingthat with you guys in classes
soon.
That's a big, big update.
I also spent a lot of time inDubai over the past month.
I did a lot of interviews, including really cool interviews
during Art Dubai, as well assome really interesting stuff in
Saudi as well, but that willall come out very soon is the
(02:23):
art of curation and, to behonest with you, I've noticed on
social media that a bunch ofbrands over the past year have
come up and sort of startedusing this word, and some are
using it correctly, some areusing it absolutely out of
context, and I thought it wouldbe interesting to kind of define
(02:43):
what being a curator and whatcurating is to me.
A lot of people ask me actuallythey're like Noor what does the
curation mean?
It's been a sort of first mover.
I've talked about this a lot inthe past and I love, love, love
kind of diving deep into thesethings and introducing you guys
(03:04):
to, like you know, new ideas andnew topics and new concepts and
breaking them down.
So this episode is called theArt of Curation and I'm going to
add a little summer edit at theend.
So stay tuned and I hope youguys love it.
Curation and why does it matter, guys?
(03:26):
Curation is basicallyintentionally selecting things
and editing your life with everyaspect of it.
So, regarding everything inyour life, you are editing and
selecting and choosing based onyour taste or based on the taste
of people you trust.
(03:47):
Now, taste is something that Ireally think is essential, but
not everybody has it, and Ireally think you either have
taste or you don't, and taste issomething that similar to
values I feel like you're raisedwith.
So I grew up and my mom and dadwere very naturally curatorial.
They have so much taste, alhamdulillah, and they really
(04:10):
really like, curated everything, from the food we ate to the
like art in the house, to everysingle aspect of our lives, to
what we wore, how we dressed, how we talked, everything,
everything.
Everything was so intentional, and so this is, I believe, how I
ended up being obsessed withthis idea of curation and
(04:32):
editing.
And to filter is super important, because we live in so much
noise in the age of social mediaand, to be honest with you guys
, like I'm really tired of it,like if you are not jaded.
To be honest with you guys, like I'm really tired of it,
like if you are not jadedlistening to and hearing the
same soundtrack, the same song, the same, like 10 influencers
(04:52):
talking about the same product, like I don't even know how you
could still find thatinteresting and I don't think
it's sustainable either.
So in the age of, like, digitalcontent, content it's not about
more content, it's about bettercontent.
It's about picking the peoplewho will show you what real
(05:12):
taste and aesthetic is.
It's about discernment.
Discernment is a word that I'vealways loved so much.
It basically means that youlook at something and you
analyze and you think is thisworth my money, is it worth my
time, is it worth my effort?
And it's the same with people.
So the concept of curation isessential, and the reason I
(05:33):
renamed my entire platform, which is huge and risky and
everything, is because I was100% aware of the trend that was
coming in social media, whichI'm going to get to in point
number two, which is that thefuture of social media is in
curation, and mark my words.
This is exactly how it's goingto go Basically.
(05:56):
We're all very bored of seeingthe same thing a million times
and, instead of followinginfluencers, we're going to
follow individuals like myselfwho are tastemakers, people who
have an opinion, who havecharacter, who have taste and
who are not afraid to tell you Ilove this, I hate this.
I'm not buying the labubu orwhatever is going on.
(06:17):
I do not and will not be caughtin butter yellow at any point
because I'm a tan.
You know, north African, middleEastern girl, like why would I
wear?
Like no, I'm not gonna do thatand, to be honest with you, I
wouldn't recommend it and, likeit depends on you.
But the cookie cutter sort ofcopy paste situation that has
(06:40):
been happening over the pastthree years, I feel really,
really broke, like our attentionspan and our ability to digest
ideas on social media.
So audiences are going tofollow people who know how to
edit and that basically, simply, simply means we're going to go
back to having a personality, guys, a character, an opinion,
(07:01):
and that means that I'm going tofollow people who I want to
hear an opinion and that meansthat I'm going to follow people
who I want to hear whose opinionI agree with, and also maybe a
few who I don't agree with, because I like to mix it up.
But I'm not just going toblindly follow every aesthetic
grid that I see and try to likecopy paste.
Like last summer, I was, I was,I was, I was, I was, I was, I
was, I was, I was, I was, Iremember so clearly.
(07:23):
I remember this is when Idecided I'm going to change the
name of my platform to theCuration, because this is what I
do and this is what we need andthis is the future.
Like I said, I was standing onthe beach in the north coast in
Egypt and like I looked aroundme and I swear, every single
girl looked copy paste, likecopy paste.
(07:46):
The one next to her Same hairclip, same bag, same skirt, same
top, same entire outfit, samehairstyle, same makeup, same
energy, everything, everything.
And I just felt like, oh my God, we're becoming clones.
This is not normal, it's notokay, it's not human even.
(08:06):
And so the future is niche.
Guys, audiences are going totrust the voice that they feel
understands what, what trueaesthetic is, and someone who's
thought about what they'resaying, someone who's not trying
to go viral.
You know what I mean and thatis, in my opinion, viral.
You know what I mean and thatis, in my opinion, the future of
(08:27):
social media.
And having explained whatcuration is, I'm going to tell
you, for me, my personal as Noor, my definition of being a
curator.
So I think one of the mostimportant things about the
curation podcast is that, evenin the episodes and in the
guests that I select, I amcurating a perspective for you
(08:48):
guys.
I'm not just curating likeobjects or makeup or art or
design or all of those things.
No, I want to curate a way ofliving for you.
Okay, a lifestyle, ideas, energy, people, energy, people,
aura, like how can you constructyour life in a way where, as
(09:11):
Rick Rubin says, you live in away that sort of truly kind of
embodies who you are and isedited and is individual and is
unique and is rare and is asbeautiful as each and every
single one of you is?
Because why would we all wantto look the same?
(09:33):
And I pray that with this shiftthat's coming and I see all of
these like curated by and likethe curatorial and the cure,
whatever, like I don't even carehow copied and and repeated and
repeated and common this wordhas become, because I'm so happy
and proud to be again a firstmover and bringing a concept
(09:55):
that is going to really lock inon what's important, which is
that we as people, we thrive, yes, in groups, but also as
individuals, and if we all meshtogether and become one person,
I mean it's enough that we'reall like dressing the same, but
(10:19):
if also our characters and ourideas and our thoughts or
everything is like copy pasted, then how are we gonna, how are
we just gonna differentiateourselves?
How are you going to, in thefuture, meet someone who you
think is interesting and fall inlove?
And no, no, if everyone is thesame?
So I remember in high school weall had like a girls group or
(10:44):
whatever, and every single oneof us was so different like it
unreal, and I don't think thatexists anymore and that makes me
so sad.
And I really think thatbuilding this platform and it's
only just the beginning is goingto hammer and solidify the idea
that individuality wins.
(11:04):
It's not about the cookiecutter aesthetic anymore, and if
you want to win at the game ofsocial media let's call it that
you have to learn this and youhave to follow us, and that's
pretty much it, guys.
I mean those are the three mainthings I wanted to get across,
like what is curation, the factthat it's the future and what
(11:29):
curation is from my lenspersonally.
So I thought it would be coolto do a little summer edit for
you guys, like a little summerstyle curation, with a couple of
products and things that I'mloving right now, and just add
it to the end of this episode tomake it a little bit fun and
cool and things that know youguys can like, shop and write
(11:51):
down and love.
So the first thing I'm lovingtruly is the raffia bags trend,
those like ash bags that arelike made of like brown woven
material, and I think Miu Miuhas so many amazing ones.
Loewe just came out with theirPaula one.
(12:11):
It's super cool.
And if you want something that'sa little bit more casual and
cool, obviously St Bart, like MCsquared, st Bart has one and
it's so good.
They have a couple and I thinkthey're very, very practical.
They're beachy.
You can go out with them.
You can seamlessly go from likeI don't know beach to like
(12:33):
dinner to lunch, to breakfast, whatever, and it's not like an
ugly beach, huge duffel.
You know what I mean.
I like the medium-sized ones.
I have one huge bag and I thinkthat's more than enough.
I feel like in summer I kind oflike to go more on the light
side.
I don't like to carry too muchstuff.
So that's my first thing.
(12:56):
Second thing you guys know is mysuper goop sunscreen.
This stuff is a literalnon-negotiable for me.
It's incredible.
It's literally so good.
It's like never sticky, it'sglowy, it's freaking spf that
you can wear and like it feelslike makeup, but it's not.
And they just came out withlike a tinted um, I think it's
(13:19):
like a tinted base, but I still,I'm still with the sunscreen,
the glow screen it's called.
It's so good, you guys, andhonestly, honestly, yeah, it's
expensive, but it's so worth it.
Like literally tons of girlshave come up to me, um, after my
pilates classes, whatever, andasked me like what is that glow?
(13:40):
You know what I mean.
And it's the super goopsunscreen.
Okay, refi brow sculpt it's aproduct that I love.
It's so, I mean just so cleanand useful and makes your
eyebrows look amazing.
The only issue with it is thatit is a bit sticky, so it's a
game changer for summer and thebeach and whatnot, but like to
(14:02):
get it off your brows.
It's a bit of a hassle, notgonna lie.
Okay, something I love forsummer prep's not products but
it is saunas and cold showers.
I prefer cold showers over coldplunges.
Cold plunges I would do everyonce in a while, but cold
showers for me work really well, and I do a nice routine where
(14:23):
it's like you go in the saunafor 15 minutes, cold shower for
two minutes and repeat threetimes, maybe twice.
Cold shower for two minutes andrepeat three times, maybe twice
.
It's just such an energizer andamazing for recovery.
Okay, so if you guys haven'tchecked out meshki for summer
dresses, I've been on everysingle website under the sun and
I have yet to find a website orjust like a brand that has
(14:48):
better summer like wedding guestdresses, beach dresses every
single occasion, dresses likeMeshki.
The only thing about it is thatI think they deliver to the US
and maybe to Europe.
I believe they do deliver toEurope, but honestly, it's the
most flattering cuts andsilhouettes ever.
The material is fantastic.
(15:08):
Okay, and so my final thing isobviously going to be lip gloss
or lip oil.
I am obsessed with the Gizu lipoil, the original one.
I also love the Summer Fridaysone.
I like the Laneige.
I've heard it's really good.
(15:28):
I've tried it once.
I think a good lip oil forsummer and a good lip liner are
pretty much all you need, really, if you have a brow sculpt and
a tinted sunscreen and you aregood to go for literally the
rest of the summer.
And yeah, that's pretty much it.
Guys, listen, I'm going to do anice edit for you, a curated
(15:51):
edit for the rest of my summeressentials.
But this episode was a bit moreof a catch up and I really want
to end it by saying that I thinkthe one thing we should aim for
this summer is to like embracewho we are, embrace your
personal style, try todifferentiate yourself, girls
(16:12):
like.
Try and think of, like okay, sowhat do I actually love wearing
?
You know like, what am I into, what's my style, and present
yourself as such.
Because, to be honest with you,I think summer is one of the
best seasons to really bring outthat like, cool, quirky, edgy
side of you in terms of fashion,in terms of aesthetic, in terms
(16:35):
of everything, and that's sofreeing.
So I would just take full, fulladvantage of that.
And, yeah, I hope you guys havea beautiful end of May and an
amazing summer to come, andwe'll catch up again soon.
Bye, guys.
