Speaker 0 (00:01):
Hey friends, pastor
Chris here from Living Water
Church and I'm excited to sharethat we are bringing back our
podcast that we call the Current.
Some of you watched season oneor listened to season one last
year that we finished up aroundOctober November.
Lots happened since November oflast year, as I'm sure you've
noticed around the world, including at our church, so we
(00:22):
got busy with shelter season andwith some big fall events, and
so we decided to take a littlebreak and wait until things
settle down a little bit.
And they have settled down justa little bit here, enough for
us to begin working on thispodcast again this season.
I'm excited to have some reallygreat guests.
I've already recorded a fewepisodes with some people that I
think people are going toreally enjoy and connect with
(00:44):
and really this podcast.
If you haven't listened to thispodcast before, what I'm trying
to do on it is find someinspiration, find some hope and
find some challenge todiscipleship for our church and
for anybody else who would careto listen in.
You know there's so much badnews in the world and there's so
much stuff going on both in theworld and in the church that
(01:04):
can really lead us to a sense ofdespair.
Is there anything good left?
Is anything good happening?
We talked about this a littlebit in one of our first episodes
around moral injury, with DrBrad Kelly talking about moral
injury and how, when weparticipate or are deeply
affected by systems that havesort of been exposed to be
morally bankrupt, it can lead usto a sense of despair and to
(01:28):
actual despair, and one of theways that we can push down that
despair is by remembering goodthings that are happening in the
world and participating in them, and so part of the purpose of
this podcast, I think, especially since that
conversation, has been tohighlight some of the really
good and beautiful things thatare happening in the world.
Since I am a pastor and I havefriends that are in ministry,
(01:52):
since I went to a coupledifferent universities and have
friends in academia that aredoing cool and interesting work,
I just feel like I have accessto people that not everybody
does and people who aren'tnecessarily the best at
self-promotion, and so you maynot hear about them as much as
you'll hear about, you know, other people who, like to, you
know, take up all of theattention in the news, and so
(02:15):
you know this is a chance for usto tell stories that don't get
told very often, of people doingactually good and meaningful
work that can hopefully inspireus as we seek to be disciples of
Christ ourselves, can give ussome hope for the world, a sense
that we're not alone in thework, and just like that we'll
learn about some of thedifferent aspects.
One of our first episodes isgoing to be on migration and
(02:37):
migration justice, which isn'tsomething we hit on too directly
at Living Water all the time, although we definitely have
immigration issues that arepresent in our neighborhood and
in our work.
But just talking about what itmeans to sort of push back
against oppressive policies andsystems and practices around
immigration, that can maybeinspire us as we try to be a
(02:59):
prophetic witness of God's lovehere in East Village around
homelessness or other issues.
So you know, I think there'sgoing to be some fun discussions
.
There's going to be some deepdiscussions.
We're going to talk aboutthings that have little to do
with East Village, san Diego, and we're going to talk about
things that have a ton to dowith East Village, san Diego.
But I hope that this podcastwill be interesting and fun and
(03:21):
inspiring and that it willchallenge us to understand the
world more deeply and torecognize that all is not lost,
that there is a remnant offaithful people out there doing
the work of God, that we are notalone and that we can
participate in the good worksand hopefully we'll gain some
discernment and wisdom as we tryto do that well, especially in
(03:42):
a world where the church hasbeen compromised by Christian
nationalism and all kinds ofother things, in a world where
it feels like the world couldend in any number of ways in the
next few you know bit here, where it feels like world wars
are always looming and there'snew technologies and there's
climate issues and there's, youknow, just a growing disparity
between rich and poor.
(04:08):
We need to find ways to connectwith, to learn from and to be
inspired by people who are doinggood work to fight against the
powers of evil, who are thoselights shining in the darkness
that the darkness has at leastnot yet overcome.
I hope that's who we are atLiving Water and, as we find
those other little lights outthere, talk to some of them and
maybe revisit the book of Actsourselves.
Hopefully we can findinspiration, be filled with the
Spirit and be powered on in ourwork and that's true for us,
(04:30):
hopefully, whether we're atLiving Water Church specifically
or whether you're overhearingthis listening in from somewhere
else.
So join us for season two I'mexcited about it and let us know
what you think.
Join us in conversation alongthe way, make comments and ask
questions and send and askquestions and send emails and
whatever you want to do.
Come talk to me and we'llhopefully have another great
(04:51):
season of podcasting here.
All right, we'll see you.
See you out there, on uh, onwherever you get your podcasts.
Subscribe now so you won't missit.
